High school junior Hazumu, the central character of Kashimashi Girl Meets Girl (2006), is a fragile, sensitive boy who's more comfortable around plants than people. His friend Tomari has protected him since he was a child, but she joins his other friends, urging him to declare his love for Yasuna. When Yasuna rejects him, Hazumu wanders on a nearby mountain--and is hit by an alien spaceship when it crashes. The aliens regenerate his injured body, but they change his gender in the process. Hazumu takes the change calmly, although he has to learn to dress and behave like a proper Japanese girl. Although she regrets having rejected Hazuma when he was male, Yasuna likes him as a girl. Their affection makes Tomari jealous. Kashimashi sometimes feels like the female equivalent of a yaoi romance; it makes Gakuen Heaven and Revolutionary Girl Utena feel as normal as "The Bobsey Twins." In Japanese only. Description

On a warm, cloudy afternoon, Tomari bursts in on two girls from her class, Hazumu and Yasuna, sharing a tender first kiss. Her heart breaks... from jealousy. Hazumu was born a boy, but he certainly doesn't act it. He's sensitive, delicate, and loves gardening. Lucky for him, he grew up with the tomboy Tomari, who is always there to protect him. Despite her own feelings, she pushes Hazumu to confess his love to the elegant Yasuna. After Yasuna rejects him, he retreats into the mountains in despair. This begins the strange series of events that changes him into a her, and earns her the love of both Yasuna and Tomari.

For People Who Like Shoojo Anime.......2007-06-16

The basic plot for this shoojo anime is a love triangle involving three girls in high school. One of the girls was originally a boy, but got changed into a girl during an unfortunate encounter with space aliens.

The principal focus of this anime (like most shoojo anime) is on feelings and relationships. People who like mecha and demons should look elsewhere for entertainment.

Since I have two daughters and a granddaughter, I am rather fond of girls in general, and I particularly like the three main characters in this anime. I wish them well in their struggles with their feelings, although I do wonder why they need to form a triangle; why can't they just be three together, instead of splitting into a bonded pair and somebody who gets left out?

This anime is very well done, so far as the main characters are concerned. I took off one star for the bizarre treatment of adults.
