Description
The Nanny is a galvanic, profound and often shocking film about family ties.

At the dawn of the 20th century, a Professor and his wife bear a child. But the mother cannot supply milk - or even love - to the child. So the professor hires an illiterate country girl as a wet nurse and a nanny. An explosive situation develops between the professor, the mother, the nanny, and the child.
This powerful film was directed by Marco Bellocchio. Bellocchio and Daniela Ceselli wrote the screenplay after a story by Luigi Pirandello. Bellocchio is widely acclaimed as a daring provocateur of sexual mores, as in such films as DEVIL IN THE FLESH. THE NANNYfurther cements his reputation. But THE NANNYis much more than mere provocation - it is also sensitive, intelligent, and wise. END

With hairy warts, a stern-looking unibrow and one extremely protruding buck-tooth, Nanny McPhee is a wonderfully comedic substitute for Mary Poppins in this entertaining family fantasy. By loosely adapting Christianna Brand's Nurse Matilda children's books of the 1960s, Oscar®-winning screenwriter Emma Thompson (Sense and Sensibility) has also given herself the plum role of Nanny McPhee, who can tame even the most unruly children with a tap of her magic walking stick. Her latest challenge is the bratty brood of a recent widower Mr. Brown (Colin Firth), who's under pressure to find a new wife or lose his much-needed allowance from wealthy Aunt Adelaide (a tailor-made role for Angela Lansbury). His love for scullery maid Evangeline (Kelly Macdonald) remains unspoken as he wincingly woos the eagerly merry widow Mrs. Quickly (Celia Imrie), but Brown's raucous rugrats have a plan to make things right, especially after they've come under the benevolent influence of Nanny McPhee, whose peculiar brand of discipline works wonders for everyone involved. Both quintessentially British and universally appealing, this wildly colorful comedy (thanks to a bold palette of costume and production design) was capably directed by Kirk Jones, whose appreciation for comic actors was equally apparent in his critically acclaimed 1998 comedy Waking Ned Devine. With just a hint of darkness to offset the whimsy, Nanny McPhee offers a splendid match of director, cast and material, guaranteed to please Wallace & Gromit fans and anyone else with a taste for British zaniness. --Jeff Shannon

5 out of 5 stars Loved it.......2007-06-21

This was a fun movie to watch.

2 out of 5 stars Not as good as it looks .......2007-06-15

At 99 minutes, Nanny Mcphee is a light and ultimately forgettable children's film. It had great potential, including a cast of the British luminaries Colin Firth and Emma Thompson, and a good deal of charm and heart, but ultimately failed to deliver on two of its most important attributes: plot and the Nanny. Nanny Mcphee, as a modernized, Willy-Wonka version of Mary Poppins, fails miserably, the worst part being that she's actually frightening. Mary Poppins, as played by Julie Andrews, was strict and firm and occasionally a little frightening, but NEVER cruel. Emma Thompson's nanny is not averse to bringing one of the children to near-death to make sure that they get the point. By the time the little boy has been lifted away from the boiling oil, the children have got the point: Nanny McPhee is boss, and so has the audience; we don't like her. As a "comedic" replacement for Mary Poppins, Nanny McPhee is unfunny, ugly, and burdened with a ridiculous buck tooth and a decidedly odd manner. She is mysterious rather than magical, inhuman rather than "practically perfect", and the plot has the vague feeling of something stretched over too little material. There is a good deal of charm, mostly provided by the children carrying out a series of predictable but highly amusing pranks to drive their prospective step-mother away and by a really beautiful love story that develops in the last 5-10 minutes of the film, and great cinematography, but this only partially cancels out the genuinely creepy parts and the frothy lack of plot. In the end, this is a decent family film, but hardly a classic.

4 out of 5 stars Enchanting.......2007-05-20

`Nanny McPhee' is charming to the last. The story starts with the Brown household in chaos. Mr. Brown, a widower (in an earnest bumbling performance from Collin Firth) is a breadwinner who hardly carves out any time for his children. Smart, but not wise, the children look upon every hired nanny as a nuisance; one they find endless ways to turn in her apron in an extraordinarily short amount of time. At wits end, he consults the nanny agency for the last time, but, finally, no one will work for him. That is until independent nanny, Nanny McGhee (a marvelous Emma Thompson), pops up (literally) at his door. Spellbound, she brings some new order to roost, pronouncing her wishes to the children and using her magical walking stick to enforce consequences on their self-willed ways. In the meantime, strict Aunt Adelaide (featuring illustrious Angela Lansberry--from blonde bombshell to super sleuth to [here] indomitable matriarch) will cut off his allowance if he doesn't marry by the end of the month. It seems also having Auntie's way, he will have to give up one of his children to her. Rashly, he chooses Mrs. Quickly (played with comic wickedness by Celia Imrie), even though his preference for Evangeline, (Beautiful Kelly McDonald) a servant. With five lessons to learn, Nanny McPhee warns, "If you don't want me, but you need me, I'll stay, but when you want me, but no longer need me, I will have to go."

Such enchanted development and straightforward mischief make `Nanny McPhee' a shelf-worthy family movie. Visually, they color every scene beautifully to accentuate a fun family film. (Based on 'Nurse Matilda,' a children's book serial by Christianna Brand. Screenplay by Emma Thompson.) Shakespearean actor, Derek Jacobi, joins an endearing cast in this lovable children's romp.

2 out of 5 stars Weird, chilly, bad messages.......2007-04-30

When you know the plot of the movie before you see it, they'd better do good things with the characters. But here, they don't.

Strange-looking Nanny McPhee has to teach the kids to be good and get the hero married before the nasty Aunt Adelaide cuts off the family allowance, and--what was that? Before the allowance is cut off?

I'm amazed that this movie has done so well. In America, land of the self-made person, you'd think a goal of getting someone else to pay for your way of life would be, at the least, unappealing. Even in Victorian times, you didn't HAVE to produce 7 children you couldn't feed. And then, maybe if Brown (Colin Firth's character) had fewer children, or a smaller house, or did away with one or two of the household staff, his salary at the morgue would have been sufficient. (He works at the morgue. Ha. Ha.)

Since the powerful and good Nanny is so strange-looking, I thought this might be a movie about inner beauty, but no. As the children learn Nanny's 5 lessons, she gets less ugly, until at the end she is lovely Emma Thompson. This reflects their inner change, or maybe it just means that ugly is bad, after all.

There are some great things about this film, such as the surreal sets which tell us not to take anything seriously, or the normally lovely and classy Celia Imrie as a vulgar strumpet. (Just as there's no person as horrid as a good one gone bad, there's somehow no better "bad girl" than a naturally classy one.)

The ultimate change in Mary Poppins--despite her magical powers-- occurred when Mr. Banks himself realized he had to prioritize his family. Colin Firth never has any kind of personality change, and any change that happens comes from someone else doing a rescue: Nanny McPhee, Aunt Adelaide, or the oldest son. If I can't root for the main character, why would I want to watch?

Not a lot of laughs, confusing and conflicting messages, not anything I want to see again.

5 out of 5 stars Certainly worth buying.......2007-04-14

I think this should be a favorite for any age! Especially if you like the "Lemonity Snicket" kind of weird feel to a show. (Its a good weird though!)

John Candy has one of his finest opportunities in this film by John Hughes (The Breakfast Club) about a perpetual screw-up (Candy) who gets his act together enough to watch over his brother's kids effectively. The late actor scores big points resurrecting elements of his more decadent persona from SCTV days, but he also has some persuasively touching, sentimental moments. Hughes's direction is not as focused as it was only a few years before, but there's no mistaking his touch. The DVD release has a widescreen presentation, production notes, biographies, Dolby sound, optional Spanish and French soundtracks. --Tom Keogh

John Hughes made some great comedies in th 80's and 90's, and this is one of them.

5 out of 5 stars Uncle Buck Rocks!.......2007-02-18

Uncle Buck is absolutely hilarious, and no better actor then John Candy to play this role! Uncle Buck is a Slobby, Unorganized, Middle-Aged Man, and is asked by his brother to stay over his house, so he can take care of his 3 kids, while he and his wife are out of town visiting her sick father. Even though Uncle Buck seems like a careless slob, we get to see his paternal side as we see how he actually really cares for each of these children. Best scenes are the ones where he has to look after the oldest child who is a rebellious teenage girl, also starring in this film is a very young Macaluay Culkin and Gaby Hoffman as the 2 younger children. This movie is a classic, and I totally recommend it! Not to mention that it's a John Hughes film.

Vin Diesel is game to soften his tough-guy image in The Pacifier, in which he plays hot-shot Navy S.E.A.L. Shane Wolfe, whose latest mission goes awry when the scientist he's sent to rescue is popped off before he can tell Wolfe where he's hidden some Top Secret software something-or-other. Before you can say Kindergarten Cop, Wolfe is assigned guard duty at the scientist's family home, where he's left with some unruly kids when the widow (Faith Ford) takes off to Switzerland to claim her hubby's safety deposit box under the guidance of Wolfe's superior officer. The trouble with this paint-by-numbers fish-out-of-water kiddie comedy is that Diesel himself is a fish out of water in the movie--he's no comic and is far funnier when he's unintentionally spoofing macho heroics in The Chronicles of Riddick. The film limply throws everything it can at you, including the idea of Wolfe directing a community theater production of The Sound of Music, but is just biding its time until the predictable action climax and hugs-all-around denouement. Vin doesn't look embarrassed, but the supporting cast sure does, especially Everybody Loves Raymond's Brad Garrett as a bombastic vice principal and Gilmore Girls' Lauren Graham as Garrett's boss and Diesel's sudden love interest.--Steve Wiecking

2 out of 5 stars "Were gonna do this my way. No highway option" .......2007-06-03

I like to put a quote from the movie on the title of my reviews. Most are good, but sometimes I like to put a really bad one.

Vin Diesel stars as a U.S S.E.A.L. When a mission fails and a scientist is killed, Vin is hired to search for a secret "ghost" military program while taking care of the dead scientist's kids. All of the kids have a problem that Vin helps them solve. About 20 minutes left in the movie, the director remembers to finish up the plot and there is a battle for the "ghost" program.

I didn't mind that the director forgot about the plot, but the interaction with the kids could have been a lot better. There is too much mindless talk that isn't funny and is just time filler.

My favorite part of the movie is when Brad Garret does his Sonny Chiba impersination. He challenges vin Diesel to a wrestling match and Vin takes him up on it later in the movie because Garret is such a bully. There is one pointless fight with 2 ninjas that I have to nominate as worst fight scene ever. The children's fight is fun. The final fight is OK, but action scenes don't get much more mindless than this.

A classic coming-of-age tale on par with Anne of Avonlea and Little Women, Berkeley Square is worth watching over and over again. This 10-episode British miniseries will awe you with its erudite script, wonderfully believable characters, high-caliber production values, meticulous Edwardian details, and topnotch acting. In fact, you will join the growing multitudes who puzzle over why the BBC decided to stop after only 10 episodes.

In 1902 three young nannies find jobs in well-to-do London households and get to know each other. Naive farm girl Lydia finds an unfamiliar world both in city life and with the progressive-thinking family who employs her. Earnest, rule-abiding Matty is a hard-working East End girl who slowly learns to loosen up. And, after a tragic affair with the eldest son of a grand Yorkshire family, Hannah's life in London is full of chilling secrets and grave life-and-death decisions. --Tara Chace

5 out of 5 stars Bygone days in jolly old England.......2007-06-03

This is a delightful miniseries. It depicts the class distinction between the haves and the have-nots and how defined the caste system was back in those days. The experiences of the Nanny and other servants in the household was dependent on the degree of compassion, or lack of it, shown by the family for whom they worked. This series does an excellent job of depicting this. It also illustrates the disassociated attitude of most parents towards their children, and the dependence of them upon their Nanny for love and security. I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys the days of yore in jolly old England.

4 out of 5 stars A Good But Not Great English Drama.......2007-05-13

English produced drama is one of my passions and this is a good representation of the genre. I enjoyed watching it the first time, but find that when I look over my collection to find something to watch once more, I pass it by. The acting is good, but the story is just a bit too unbelievable, a bit too pat. But if you love English drama, give it at least one look. You won't be sorry even if you, like I, feel it could have been even better.

2 out of 5 stars A Soap-opera which leaves you empty in the end........2007-04-06

Three girls become nannies in London in 1902. Each works for a different household. The three become friends as they meet in the park with their strollers.

The first five episodes of the ten are a pleasant, yet lively pace of intrigue within attractive English homes and parks.

The pleasantness gives way to intrigue as the scandals, which have been building, explode in episode six. You find you have been lulled into a soap-opera abounding in sin: fornication, adultery, lying, deceit, manslaughter, seduction, extortion, child endangerment and neglect, to name just a few. The film is far from the "warm-hearted family drama" advertised on the cover.

It is an enticing film. The story is intriguing. The film balances intrigue with pleasant dialogue; the actors are attractive in attractive costumes; the acting is fine within attractive surroundings. Children are present. All the good characters weakly display some virtue.

It is helpful to know that Laudanum is morphine derived from opium mixed with alcohol, sold over-the-counter then, to relieve pain and induce sleep. Doctors knew it was addictive, and deadly in too large a dose.

The characters draw you into the soap opera by displaying promising virtue, but then betraying that virtue (moving back and forth). Opposing minds within the same person. Science says that one mind must eventually win out.
« Red-head, Nanny Hannah Randall opposes child endangerment in one instance, but fails to inform the parents in another instance, who were due informing; and the endangerment continues. Hannah appears to wish to do Right, but fails to consistently act with the resolution of one with single mind to see Right through.
« The aunt expresses her good moral principles, but later gives way to extortion.
« The older nanny stands against the bad guy, but later makes a subtle statement justifying the seduction, extortion, and malice.
« The first half is pleasant, but in the end, a couple of the "good characters" have lied and deceived, causing devastating harm to another, taking away all the pleasantness. In the end, you have not experienced a world of cheer, humor, music, singing, fun, and characters to admire.

A thoughtful film does not need all the scandal. It is interesting enough with the three girls starting jobs as nannies, as servants, the pretty London parks, difficult bosses, other servants, friendships, the charm and mischief of the children, working at doing a good job, what a good nanny is. Add some fun, humor, music, singing, adventures, and characters coming to values to admire.

The lack of many good period films makes this pretty, intriguing, soap opera of technical ability, in which good does not win out, appear desirable. You will enjoy the 8 hours, but be left empty in the end, (Romance without Love). I will not keep it.

I recommend these better films: "Pride and Prejudice-2005, 1996, & 1940", "Wives and Daughters", "North and South", "Middlemarch", "All Creatures Great and Small", "Pollyanna-2002", "Heidi", "Anne of Green Gables", "Under the Greenwood Tree", and "Road to Avonlea seasons 1-6".

3 out of 5 stars Could have been..........2007-03-16

Better. It didn't meet my expectations. I think it was the way it was played out. It almost got a little bit monotonous. Wives and Daughters was way more to my liking and style.

5 out of 5 stars Costume Soap Opera but a Darn Good One!.......2007-03-10

Berkeley Square is a well made, very watchable soap opera and each episode ends with an exciting cliffhanger that makes you glad you have all ten episodes handy on DVD. Some of the plot lines do swing toward the improbable but hey it's great entertainment. And to the reviewers who found it too dark, it may be compared to Little Women and Anne of Green Gables but not to those who regularly view modern television and movies. Perhaps billing it as family viewing is misleading. Like others I wish the series had a more satisfactory conclusion and close captioning would have been nice but the DVD is still well worth watching especially for lovers of Britain in the Edwardian era.

In the second season of her renowned show (1993-1999), Fran Drescher sizzles as Nanny Fine, continuing her inimitable style of witty one-liners, physical comedy, and fashion flair, which unequivocally establishes The Nanny as one of the freshest and funniest sitcoms of the '90s. From the uproarious season opener, "Fran Lite"--where Maxwell Sheffield (Charles Shaughnessy) dates a carbon copy of Fran--the 26 episodes in this three-disc set are breezy and brilliant. As the season unfolds, Fran is mistaken for a nurse, arrested for kidnapping a baby, and cast in a Broadway production. Sparks of affection continue to fly between Miss Fine and Mr. Sheffield (don't miss "A Kiss is Just a Kiss"), while the razor-sharp repartee of C.C. Babcock (Lauren Lane) and Niles (Daniel Davis) further fuels the hilarity. Guest stars include Efrem Zimbalist Jr., Sally Jesse Raphael, Erik Estrada, Shari Lewis and Lambchop, and Billy Ray Cyrus. Season One's supporting cast returns en masse, with more stage time given to Renée Taylor (as Sylvia Fine) and Ann Morgan Guilbert (as Yetta). Yet it is Drescher who is larger-than-life, stealing every show in a manner reminiscent of Lucille Ball, while peppering the plot with liberal doses of ribald, often risqué humor. Bonus material omitted. (Ages 12 and older) --Lynn Gibson

Customer Reviews:

Kay Thompson's literary classic comes to life in this TV movie starring a free-spirited 6-year-old living in New York's Plaza Hotel. Sofia Vassilieva lights up the screen as Eloise, bearing an uncanny resemblance to Hilary Knight's illustrated namesake, from her bright red ribbon to her dainty designer shoes. Equal parts irrepressible imp and cherubic charmer, Eloise has the run of the hotel under the (mostly) attentive eye of beloved Nanny, played "rawther" marvelously by the timeless Julie Andrews. As the Plaza prepares for its debutante ball, a young prince arrives incognito, who Eloise befriends in her usual dervish style. The cast's comic timing transforms otherwise seeming clichés into a masterful romp through several stories-within-a-story, whether it's Eloise matchmaking a romantic liaison for Nanny, or orchestrating reconciliation between the prince and his estranged father. A making-of featurette and art lesson by Hilary Knight round out this heartwarming package, a fitting tribute to Eloise's creator. (Ages 5 and older) --Lynn Gibson

Description

Based on the best-selling children's classic, ELOISE AT THE PLAZA brings one of literature's most beloved characters to life in a new heartwarming and hilarious movie that "is reason for celebration" (Orlando Sentinel). Eloise (Sofia Vassilieva) is a fun-loving little girl with a knack for finding adventure every place she looks. While under the care of her "rawther" wonderful nanny (Julie Andrews), Eloise tries to play matchmaker to a lonely prince and wrangle an invitation to the society event of the season. Join New York City's most adventurous six-year-old in this charming new family film. It's "as bright and quick-witted as its high-spirited heroine" (Newsday).

5 out of 5 stars Eloise at the Plaza.......2007-05-09

I'm an 8th grade Social Studies teacher. I use the Eloise book Eloise in Moscow as a symbol for the Cold War era. Since my students had no background in Eloise, they struggled with understanding the book. This video gives the students the needed backdrop into which to fit the required reading. The movie is delightfully funny and gives the students a peek into the culture of the times.

5 out of 5 stars Great story for children that parents won't mind watching a thousand times........2007-02-06

This movie is incredibly well done. Excellent casting and a charming story lead to a very engrossing tale of a mischievous six year old girl with a heart of gold who causes a lot of trouble in a way that real children love to watch, but at bottom, is a sweet kid who is just trying to fill her days living at the Plaza with fun. The movie is styled in a way that is asynchronous. The dresses are very fifties-ish, yet the cars are from the nineties. The music is very American Songbook, yet the props and cultural references are all over the map. The result is a timeless story that is appealing to adults and children alike. Any girl from age three up to 103 will like this story. Boys aged four or five through probably ten or eleven will love Eloise. Parents will love it because if their children get into one of those video ruts in which all they want to watch is Eloise, it is an enjoyable ninety minutes to which to listen. There is no violence, no inappropriate content of any kind, and no "scary bit", yet the movie still has a lot of texture and intrigue. In addition, Eloise, although not well-behaved, is, in certain ways, a decent role model for girls, expressing herself articulately, and solving her own problems (in the context of her own simultaneously privileged yet neglected little microcosm). I've seen this movie probably two dozen times now with my four year old daughter and her friends (which regularly include a six year old girl and a nine year old boy), and I (and they) never tire of it. I recommend it highly.

2 out of 5 stars Why did they bother?.......2006-08-21

The books are witty and charming. This, in stark contrast, is formulaic schlock. Americans -- and much of the world's consumers -- prefer their entertainment predigested so it doesn't require chewing, so they consume the same nutritionless movieland cliches endlessly.

In the land of limitless equality, everything is reduced to equal tastelessness. If you want impart the capacity for discernment to your child, you could start by avoiding this twaddle. The Eloise books are special, while this movie is mere product.

Update: I've since discovered that Anchor Bay has two Eloise animated DVDs, "Me, Eloise," and "Little Miss Christmas," which are far more tolerable than this Disney garbage. They are at least a bit more faithful to the spirit of the books.

5 out of 5 stars We love Eloise!.......2006-02-28

Get all the Eloise you can! The writing is so much fun. Eloise is hysterical! You can't go wrong with this book. Unless you'd rawther take a bawth!

Sony brings to DVD the first season of this one-of-a-kind sitcom starring Fran Drescher as the warm-hearted, nasal-voiced nanny from Queens who lands a job caring for three children of a wealthy, widowed Broadway producer from Manhattan. During the show's six-year run (1993-1999), Drescher dazzles as Fran Fine in a role she created and developed (as writer and producer in several episodes) and obviously relishes, whether she's flirting, whining, sparring, or showcasing her sensational wardrobe. The three-disc collection features 22 episodes beginning with "The Pilot," when Fran knocks on the Sheffield's door and is mistakenly hired as their new nanny, establishing the show's shtick of "blue collar meets blue blood." Immediate chemistry between Nanny Fine and Maxwell Sheffield (Charles Shaughnessy, "Days of Our Lives") fuels the storylines while the sarcastic repartee of Sheffield's assistant, C.C. Babcock (Lauren Lane) and Niles the Butler (Daniel Davis) further ignites the entertainment. Season highlights include "The Butler, the Husband, the Wife, and Her Mother," when the family enters a parallel universe in a hilarious turn of events; and "Imaginary Friend," the season's turning point where Drescher's physical comedy (inspired by Lucille Ball) is given free reign. Celebrity guests include Carol Channing, Cloris Leachman, and Patti LaBelle (in the finale). Don't miss the bonus material: a heartwarming "making-of" retrospective with the cast, and Drescher's audio commentary during "I Don't Remember Mama." Mild profanity and sexual innuendo. (Ages 12 and older) --Lynn Gibson

What's a director to do? Andy Tennant's previous film was the highly enjoyable Cinderella romance Ever After, which vanished from theaters and became a video hit. Then Tennant made this gorgeous, nonmusical version of Anna and the King, and once again felt the sting of box-office failure. Both films deserved better, and this Anna is certain to eventually find the appreciative audience that eluded it in theaters. In many ways, this delightful costume romance transcends the latter-day quaintness of The King and I to offer a more lavish and rewarding version of the story of Anna Leonowens, based on her diaries and first told in Margaret Landon's 1944 novel.

In an otherwise admirable performance (although many felt her miscast), Jodie Foster struggles with her Victorian accent as Anna, the grieving widow who arrives in Siam in 1860 with her young son. Having accepted a post as tutor for the many children of the polygamous King Mongkut (Chow Yun-Fat), Anna finds herself drawn to the progressive monarch, whose passions swirl in a turbulent political climate. If the chemistry isn't entirely there, this culture clash still has plenty of regal charm, and Luciana Arrighi's production design is appropriately magnificent. Humor and politics are given equal measure, and Chow Yun-Fat is arguably the most endearing king to date--powerful yet tender, forceful but anguished by the heavier burdens of leadership. Bai Ling's intense performance as the tragic lover Tuptim adds emotional depth to one of the most underrated films of 1999. --Jeff Shannon

1 out of 5 stars The King and I Admirers Will Be Bored.......2007-04-11

This film was a real let down. Jodie Foster was wasted in a familiar tale that wasn't told the way we remember it. Deborah Kerr and Yul Brynner keep their titles of Anna and the King.

5 out of 5 stars not your father's King and I.......2007-04-01

This was a pleasure-packed film from the opening scenery to the text at the end chronicling the changes brought about in Siam owing to the influence of Anna. The country and the people(at least those of the royal household) are absolutely beautiful. The king is one to whom it would be very easy to feel loyalty to.
After seeing the movie, I feel compelled to read the history of Siam, and thus, Thailand.

5 out of 5 stars Anna and the King.......2007-03-27

Very interesting remake of the King and I, though we older set missed the singing, it was put together and updated well. Jodie always gives a great performance!

5 out of 5 stars Entertaining and Captivating.......2007-03-22

This is a great movie to have in your library. It is basically a film along the lines of The King and I. Jodie Foster is the perfect match for her role. She grabs you and draws you in, making a personal connection with the characters. Chow Yun-Fat is, also, a very good fit for his role as emperor.
The film makes you take a good look at how personal realtionships within your own family are about the most important thing you have. It also draws attention to the importance of respecting others. I'm not going to use the word 'tolerance'...but for the closed-minded, tyranical types, this film will ease that person into realizing the many good qualities in other people.
Oh, and don't forget the falling-in-love portions of this movie. Crossing boundries for those forbidden pleasures alway make for a good time.
This is a great film for those who like to ride the emotional rollercoaster. You'll laugh, get ticked-off, cry, get the warm-fuzzies...you get the point.
So, grab your sweatheart, get a blanket, pop some popcorn, turn the lights down and enjoy this timeless work of art!

5 out of 5 stars Great Movie!.......2007-03-03

Anna and the King is a wonderful True movie! Jodie Foster is a very good actress in this movie. This movie made me laugh, cry and happy!
