Although it never achieved the classic status of Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver or the greater critical acclaim of his own Blue Collar, Hardcore remains a vital film from the early career of writer-director Paul Schrader. It's a solid companion piece to Taxi Driver (and uses much of the same crew, including cinematographer Michael Chapman), with a similar descent-into-hell storyline. Schrader's strict Calvinist upbringing in Grand Rapids, Michigan, provides the semi-autobiographical launching point for a journey into the dark heart of pornography and prostitution, beginning when a stern, morally upright Calvinist father (George C. Scott) learns that his teenage daughter has vanished during a church-sponsored visit to California. She's a runaway on a rapidly downward spiral, and Scott recruits a sleazy private detective (Peter Boyle) and a sympathetic porno-actress (Season Hubley) to try and find her. Although Schrader's much-criticized ending doesn't ring entirely true, there's much to admire here, from Scott's memorably anguished performance to the vivid authenticity of the film's seedy, threatening locations and the conflicting moral issues raised in an atmosphere of hopeless depravity. As its title suggests, Hardcore is a potent, uncompromising film, definitely not for prudes or underage viewers. --Jeff Shannon

Comstock Films offers a new vision of couples' sexuality in this groundbreaking series of documentary-style features of real-life lovers. Barely out of their teens when they got together, Matt and Khym spent many years generously taking of others instead of concentrating on themselves. Now in their thirties, Matt and Khym have taken the time to rediscover the joys of married life and married sex.
Customer Reviews:
Beautiful and believable.......2007-06-17
This is the first of the Comstock movies I've seen, but it absolutely won't be the last. This really is something different - "documentary" erotica, about a real couple not so different from anyone else.
The first half of the movie features the two talking to a silent, unseen interviewer. They describe their relationship, from the time they met, to their wedding (surprisingly like my own), through years of a complex and full home life. Throughout, they describe the career of their physical relationship at each period. It comes across as happy and a bit ordinary - I like that, it creates a kind of comfort with the couple that I don't have good words for, and teases me into caring about them.
The interview is broken into segments of a few minutes each, interleaved with moments from their bedroom love-making. That seems natural, too, the kinds of activities and positions I've enjoyed rather than bizarre contortions to create some camera angle. The interview ends about halfway through the movie. At that point, the bedroom scene restarts, then plays beyond what we saw in the first half. Because the interview made the two seem more real, my own arousal comes from theirs as if they're sharing it with me - not vicarious or voyeuristic, but friendly.
If you've been put off by adult films in the past, you probably had good reason: negative tone, forced activities and pacing, and people that look like plastic and sound worse. There's none of that here. It's warm, private, and above all happy - and isn't that what a love life should be?

Tony Comstock is better than ever with his latest glimpse behind the couple's door.......2007-04-05
Tony Comstock is the creator and master of a new genre of films: explicit couples' sexuality documentaries. Comstock states that "intent to arouse" is often cited as the dividing line between art and porn. Of all the emotions a director might hope to induce in an audience, arousal remains the last taboo, and Tony Comstock takes it head-on.
Matt and Khym: Better Than Ever is an affirmation of married love and sexual exploration. The pair got together in their early twenties, and now after over a decade of marriage, the spark is still there. Comstock's other films feature a porn couple, a hip New York pair, and young gay lovers, so this look at married love is an exiting new angle in his series.
Amazon also carries Comstock titles Marie & Jack (Comstock's first film, with married pornographic actors), and Xana & Dax (an older blonde and her Brazilian lover). I only wished they also carried his first-rate gay male feature Damon & Hunter.
Hooray for love!.......2007-02-19
Matt and Khym are a beautifully sexy, real life couple and I was completely charmed as I listened to them tell their story in the documentary style interview that opens this wonderful film and totally captivated to witness their lovemaking in the erotic scene that followed.
They seem to enjoy themselves in front of the camera in a way that welcomes us as viewers into their intimate life and into their bedroom with a disarming frankness that's become a trademark of Tony Comstock's films. As a result, this lovely film has been welcomed into my own bedroom on a number of occasions!
Not only do Matt and Khym shine and bubble over with a tender enthusiam for each other that seems to make them literally sparkle, but the film itself has the most beautiful lustre. It has a look that lends weight to the idea that love, sex, pleasure and intimacy are indeed important and special and wonderful. With his distinctive style, Tony Comstock has once again cleverly combined visual beauty, sexual heat, genuine chemistry, sympathetic characters and compelling real life stories into an erotic, well crafted film that I'm delighted to recommend.
Matt and Khym: Better Than Ever, just like all the other sexy Comstock Films I've enjoyed, was a real pleasure to watch alone and a great joy to share with a lover. It's sex filmed with grace, style and skill, with respect for the lovers and for the viewer.
Matt and Khym: Better Than Ever shines!
Utterly Beautiful.......2007-02-15
I was so moved and delighted by this DVD that I emailed Tony Comstock to tell him that as soon as I got done watching it. For those who have misgivings about the content or quality of mainstream porn, this offering from Comstock may be just what you're looking for in that it is genuine, heartfelt, and sexy. For those like me who do delve a fair amount into mainstream porn, I recommend Matt and Khym as a magnificent and refreshing testament to how hot the depiction of genuine sex in the context of obvious true love can be. Very highly recommended.

The history of hardcore punk--the tougher, faster, and more politically minded stepchild of the '70s punk movement that arose in the '80s--is examined in exuberant detail in Paul Rachman's documentary American Hardcore. Rachman's cameras careen across the landscape of the U.S. to trace the movement's beginnings in cities like Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and New York, and cherrypicks interviews with the musicians that helped shape its sound and impact, including Henry Rollins and Greg Ginn of Black Flag, H.R. (frontman for the highly influential, all-African American outfit Bad Brains), Ian MacKaye of Minor Threat (and now Fugazi), and many others. Hardcore's violent reaction against the Reagan administration and the complacent mindset of middle-class America is also detailed in countless performance footage clips and poster-art reproductions, which do much to dismiss the popular opinion of hardcore as nothing more than mindless hooliganism. Some fans may find the omission of certain bands a considerable oversight (San Francisco's lethally satirical Dead Kennedys are not mentioned only in passing), but for most punk devotees, American Hardcore will be vital and essential viewing. The DVD includes several deleted scenes and bonus performances, commentary by Rachman and writer Steven Blush (whose book of the same name provided the inspiration for the film), and a gallery of photos from photographer Edward Colver, who covered the hardcore scene in detail during its heyday. -- Paul Gaita

Product Description
Fueled by a ferocious soundtrack, director Paul Rachman's American Hardcore gives fans an all-access pass to the rise and fall of the U.S. punk scene, an explosive musical and cultural phenomenon that shaped everything from the grunge movement to the emo and pop/punk music currently riding the charts. Set against the conservative early '80s political landscape, American Hardcore chronicles the homegrown hardcore scene that was a swift kick in the head to corporate rock and mainstream complacency, as disaffected teens adopted the same collective credo - harder, faster, louder. From downtown warehouses to suburban bedrooms, the scene spread from city to city like wildfire, uniting bored, angry outcasts into an authentic underground revolution. A raw blast of politics, passion, and rage, American Hardcore features never-before-seen live footage from Black Flag, Minor Threat, Bad Brains, MDC, SSD, DOA, DRI, The Adolescents, 7 Seconds and many more, plus exclusive interviews with punk icons like Henry Rollins, Ian MacKaye, Keith Morris and H.R. (Paul Hudson).

Great Topic, Not So Great Film.......2007-06-18
I was a kid in 1980, living in Orange County, when I saw a fellow student in high school with a Circle Jerk's "Group Sex" t-shirt and dyed black hair. I continued to listen to a Led Zeppelin and Styx on my Sony Walkman and didn't give it a second thought. Then someone turned my on to Oingo Boingo, and my journey to punk began. It was actually Bad Religion and GBH back in 1982 that did for me. My love of punk would continue to this day.
With that said, I was thrilled to rent this DVD. Lots of great footage and lots of great memories. Plenty of footage of Black Flag, arguably the greatest hardcore band ever. But punk in 1982-1984 was more than the bands that are in the movie. Even if they couldn't get the Dead Kennedy's to be in the film, it is inexcusable why they weren't included. And you what about the fanzines? Flipside was huge. And what about the record stores that carried punk? What about Fear? And I loved Kraut.
I'm thinking of going to gigs at the Olympic Auditorium (a friend worked for Goldenvoice) and all the other punk bands that were a part of the movement. I guess many were English, and by definition, they couldn't be included in the film.
Maybe there were just so many bands that they couldn't all be included, but to me there is so much left out.
But with that said, I still enjoyed the movie. It was choppy and not coherent. It could have been five films by five different directors just thrown together.
Thanks for making the movie, but I think it could have been better.
Well done with the footage available.......2007-06-11
This movie really took me back. I was stoked to see footage that I never knew existed. Those who complain about the content forget this is all based in the years before cell phone cameras, this is before cheap VHS cameras. Besides those of us who were aware of this stuff at the time couldn't afford such cameras and didn't care. I think this is a well done documentary of a subculture that didn't care to be documented.
Definitely worth watching.......2007-06-07
If you saw the IFC documentary that came out not too long ago called "Punk: Attitude", "American Hardcore" picks up where that one left off. By around1980, traditional punk had pretty much died off, and the Hardcore movement was just starting up. "American Hardcore" focuses on all the bands that formed in different regions around the US as a reaction to (among other things) the incoming Reagan administration, the resurgence of bloated 70's dinosaur rock, and the emerging 80's mindless cocaine party scene.
The movie covers in a somewhat chronological fashion the rise and fall of the hardcore movement. From the dirty beach cities of Los Angeles, to the downtown suburbs of Washington D.C., up to Boston, and germinating everywhere in between. Since Hardcore was a regional phenomenon, the movie covers the scene from a regional point of view, addressing how each city would have it's own group of outsider kids who did not want to be part of the popular culture, and who would do anything they could to actively reject it. This manifested itself in many forms ranging from the incredible Pettibone flyers advertising SST shows, the creation of regional labels and fanzines, to the D.C. and Boston "straight edge" movements. The filmmakers interview members of bands important to the scene including Black Flag, Bad Brains, Circle Jerks, SSD Control, DOA, Minutemen, MDC, DRI, Minor Threat, Teen Idles, and so on.
Though a very thorough film, there are a few glaring omissions. On the director's commentary track, the filmmakers say that they wanted to include Dead Kennedys and the Misfits in the interviews, but due to intense legal turmoil within both bands during the filming, neither were able to be included in the movie. I understand this, yet at the same time I feel both of these bands deserved to have at least a minor segment due to their seminal influence on the hardcore scene. Also, many of the Midwest bands, most notably Hüsker Dü, get only a passing mention in this documentary.
My only other problem with this movie is that, just as in "Punk: Attitude" where members of bands from the first wave of punk rock say that punk died in 1981; "American Hardcore" ends with the aging hardcore guys saying "Punk is dead" or "Punk died in 1986". As a person who was just coming of age in 1986 and discovering the third wave of punk beginning with the resurgence of bands like Social Distortion and Bad Religion, the aging hardcore people come across just like their predecessors: as bitter old men.
In spite of the few drawbacks, this is an incredible film for both musical and social history. If you want to expose yourself to well rounded punk history, then I highly recommend watching "Punk: Attitude" (~pre-punk-1981), "American Hardcore" (~1981-1986), and "Punk's Not Dead" (~1986-present). Additionally, do not miss the incredible documentaries "The End of the Century" (The Ramones), "The Filth and the Fury" (The Sex Pistols), "Westway to the World" (The Clash), "We Jam Econo" (The Minutemen), and "The Future is Unwritten" (Joe Strummer). [NOTE: as of the time I am writing this review, "Punk's Not Dead" and "The Future is Unwritten" are still in theaters. Hopefully they'll be on DVD by late 2007.]
So much to cover, so little time.......2007-06-05
This was a very decent documentary focusing on the origins and the centers of the hardcore scene when it was at it's biggest and best. The story unfolds starting in california, and spending much of their time there, but eventually breaks off across the country into regional areas. Unfortunately, there was quite a bit of focus on some smaller less known bands, and omissions of details of the misfits, and husker du and other midwest influential bands. However, the choppyness of this film soley comes from the amount of material it has to try and cram into about 2 hours. The bonus features were nice, and Good Job with the Bad Brains and Black Flag stuff, but not the be-all end all of Punk/Hardcore knowledge. This film does definately catch the spirit of the movement. Definately worth a look.
ahh memories............2007-05-17
Great fun for anybody who was there. Like watching home movies. FYI anybody asking silly questions like "where were the Misfits and DK" obviously weren't there.

Tony Comstock invents a new genre of intimate, arousing documentaries starring real couples.......2007-04-05
Marie and Jack: A Hardcore Love Story marked Comstock's creation of the genre. Marie and Jack are a husband and wife pair who met while the both worked in the porn industry. Both are still active in the industry, and their on-screen antics are completely separate from what goes on behind their bedroom door. In intimate conversation, they reveal the ins and outs of their marriage and love life. They delight in the fact that their home sex life is relatively vanilla, with a few key positions and some signature moves that each knows turns the other on.
When Marie and Jack agreed to star in this documentary, they made a pact not to edit their sex life for the camera, but to create a revealing and intimate portrait of their life in the bedroom. This is the hands-down winner for any couple looking to watch erotic film together, and Comstock offers a number of other titles in this series for viewer who get hooked on the idea. Matt & Khym and Xana & Dax are two titles available from Amazon. I only wished they also carried his first-rate gay male feature Damon & Hunter.
The search pays off!.......2007-03-26
A couple of years back I went seeking sexy films I might watch with my husband - something fun and erotic that we could share. Having trawled through acres of trite, poorly crafted, not very inspiring videos and on the verge of giving up the search, I had the luck to find Tony and Peggy Comstock and Comstock Films. I've been a fan ever since - hence the reviews!
Marie and Jack: A Hardcore Love Story, from director Tony Comstock, has been talked about a good deal and justifiably cooed over since its release in 2003. Reviewers one by one have succumbed to the film's charm. They've no doubt been beguiled, like I was, by the fresh faced enthusiasm that Jack and Marie demonstrate for each other, engaged by their good natured humour and captivated by witnessing the intimacy and pleasure of authentic sex between this real life couple, all skillfully captured buy a clever filmmaker.
As I discovered on my search, Marie and Jack seems to represent a rare find in explicit erotic material -- a film that truly celebrates sex as a joyous, intimate connection between people and does so in a way that clearly reminds us of why beautiful lovemaking is so enthralling and pleasurable to watch. I highly recommend this film.
What a sex film should be.......2007-03-12
Along with his wife Peggy, filmmaker Tony Comstock makes a name for himself in filming real couples having sex. These are not the horrible "amateur" films one can find everywhere on the internet, but lovingly filmed and beautifully lit near-documentaries of couples who genuinely enjoy each other. "Marie and Jack: A Hardcore Love Story" was the first Comstock film, and if you have high standards for erotic films you won't be disappointed.
The couple--Marie Silva, a porn actress who works under the name of Aria, and her husband Jack Bravo, also a porn actor--talk frankly about their relationship and how their sex life intermeshes with their professional lives. Interspersed with their interview are the sex scenes. Despite their professions neither Marie nor Jack look like typical porn stars--they're good-looking, but not gorgeous; there are no fake breasts or painted faces or overly buff bodies or bad fake tans. About the most outrageous thing to be seen on either of them are Marie's silver-painted nails! The chemistry between them is palpable, which makes the sex scenes scorchingly hot. There is no overdone moaning or screaming or weird positions. It is voyeurism at its most intimate, but with much better camera angles.
This is a great couples film, as well as a good introduction for the sex film neophyte. Comstock Films has released three other films since "Marie and Jack"--one, "Matt and Khym: Better Than Ever" is also available on Amazon--but "Marie and Jack" remains a sentimental favorite of mine. It's always enjoyable to watch people having sex who look like they're actually having fun. Thank you, Tony and Peggy!

Must have DVD for MMA fans.......2007-07-05
Without reiterating too much of what the previous reviewers said, this is one of the best "knock-out" DVDs available. I am a UFC fan and I sadly admit this Pride DVD is definitely better than its UFC counterpart.
While it has the chapter selection of all DVDs, this one also has very good introduction and commentary from Mauro Renallo and the MMA legend Bas Rutten. As for the chapter selection itself, it is categorized both by individual fights and by fighters themselves. Last but not least, instead of just the few seconds leading to a knockout, this DVD also has 3 full-length fights as a bonus.
If you enjoy knockouts, MMA, or Pride, buy this.
Great DVD............2007-07-01
This is much better than UFC KOs....better production, better fights...Great way to see a lot of PRIDE for just 12 bucks......
The Best of Pride.......2007-06-02
This is a great introduction to Pride and the greater world of mixed martial arts. Unlike other knockout compilations, they don't just show knockouts, but good fights as well (a few end in decision or submission). There is also a fluidity to the presentation, unlike the UFC's compilations, which usually only show us a few seconds of the fight.
Best 11 bucks ever spent!.......2007-05-08
Pride's hardcore knockouts was an awsome buy. Awsome knockouts by some of the best in MMA such as Wanderlei Silva and Crocop. This DVD is for any MMA lover or those new to the sport who just wanna see knockouts. This was 2hours of non-stop knees, punches, kicks, and Ground and pound! Way better then UFC's hardcore knockouts!
Get slammed!.......2007-05-04
Most knockout compilations suck. It's just a plain fact. You get ahold of them, usually after forking over a lump of hard-earned dough, and after one or two viewings of a string of badly edited, often poor-quality KOs presented without any context, they gather dust somewhere on a back shelf until the inevitable yard sale. Bo-ring.
PRIDE FC - HARDCORE KNOCKOUTS VOL. I is a pleasant exception to this rule. It is a slickly packaged, well-produced and reasonably well commentated 110 minutes of some of the nastiest KOs to occur in the legendary PRIDE ring. Fans of MMA and of PRIDE fighting in particular will not be disappointed in what I hope is the first of a several-volume series.
The DVD is hosted by current IFL representative and former MMA legend Bas Rutten, and PRIDE's ringside commentator, Mauro Renallo. Rutten is maybe a bit too caffinated to give his best performance here, but nobody at the Kraft Services table was gonna tell "El Guapo" he couldn't have that sixth cappucino. Renallo, with his Brent Mussberger voice and Jim Lampley diction, is slightly annoying as always, but otherwise does his job of lobbing semi-rhetorical questions at Bas with skill and aplomb.
Now for the good stuff. HARDCORE KNOCKOUTS is a densely-layered highlight reel combining random one-punch KOs, the career-best KOs of various marquee fighters, and several important PRIDE fights in their entirety.
The disc starts with a series of brutal knockouts from various PRIDE cards, including some stunners by Ken Shamrock, Gary "Big Daddy" Goodridge and Gilbert Yvel. It segues into the best performances of Fedor Emilianenko, Wanderlei Silva, Mirko Cro Cop, Quinten "Rampage" Jackson, Chuck "the Iceman" Liddell and Igor Vovchanchyn. There are some vicious, vicious beatings here, especially by Cro Cop, Volvchanchyn and Silva. One of the most spectacular, however, is Rampage's "slam knockout" of Ricardo Arona. Holy @#%!
Fights shown in entirety are Wanderei Silva vs. Kazushi "the Gracie Hunter" Sakuraba, Mirko Cro Cop vs. Kevin "the Monster" Randelman, and Chuck Liddell vs. Rampage Jackson. Fans of Liddell will not enjoy this last one, it is a well-and-true butt-kicking, probably thrown in to draw interest in the upcoming rematch.
Some flaws: 1) Alexander Emilianenko, the tattoed kid brother of Fedor, is seen here only getting brutally KO'd by Cro Cop. This man has several spectacular KOs to his credit, but none are pictured here. 2) The commentators, despite aknowledging that PRIDE has been bought by the UFC, can't help taunting Chuck Liddell about losing to Rampage in PRIDE, drawing the conclusion that UFC fighters don't quite cut the mustard in the Octagon. I realize this was just chest-thumping for the org that pays their wages, and I realize that Cro Cop hasn't fared so well since going UFC, but hey -- this is Chuck we're talking about. It ain't wise to upset a Wookie. 3) Several of Fedor Emilianenko's "best KOs" are actually not KOs, they are fights he won by decision -- in other words, they are highlights, not knockouts. 4) No Don Frye (except as a victim).
Having made that qualification (and keeping in mind there should be other volumes coming) I would definitely recommend this disc to anyone who enjoys MMA and wants to see some true beatdowns delivered by, and sometimes to, the greatest fighters in the PRIDE ring.

LIVE CBGB 1982 (BAD BRAINS)
Customer Reviews:
Holy Crap.......2007-05-28
I'll get the technical stuff out of the way: There are audio issues; there are camera issues.
Overlooking that minor crap, this concert footage is just plain amazing.
Oh, the violence is incredible.
The energy will rip your pubic hairs off.
The Bad Brains were obviously a force to be reckoned with. This crap is phenomenal.
One of the best punk DVD's I own. I own well over forty.
Unreal.......2007-05-16
The only thing this video lacks is Darryl Jennifer. You don't see him, but you hear him and you know he's there. Absoultely essential.
for anyone who has never seen bad brains.........2007-03-11
this is a good example of the raw energy a bad brains show carries. If youre at all into hardcore punk you need to get this DVD. The quality is mediocre 80s film, but its a punk show so thats what you get. That does not take away from the insanity of bad brains.
Wow!!!.......2007-02-25
Wow!!! Just Wow! I'm stunned that this even exists. Always loved the Brains. I wasn't one of the people who was at CB's all the time, but have seen these guys a few times. Seeing them now is still cool, but nothing like seeing them back then.
Despite my glowing comments on this DVD, it's not for everyone. It is a very raw performance in a cramped CBGB's club. Camera angles aren't the greatest for capturing the band (much of it is shot from behind the band). Sound is a bit chaotic (to be expected once you see it as the stage is often filled with fans along with the band, and mic's get knocked over fairly frequently). You won't find slick MTV production here, but then that wouldn't be the point, would it. This is punk rock. It's not supposed to be polished. This DVD completely captures the scene at the club. And despite my coments on it's lack of polish, the picture is crisp and the audio clear (even with mics being knocked over often). And heck, this is Bad Brains playing CB's in '82. How amazing is that! Just got through watching it and was completely floored. These guys were the real deal and in this they are on top of their game. If you're a fan of the Brains then checking this out is a must. If you're interested in what the punk scene was like at CBGB's, this DVD does an exellent job at displaying it.
I'm still stunned. Wow!
One of the best punk DVDs you can get........2007-02-25
This has got to be one of the best harcore/punk DVDs out there. This realy captures the energy of the show, the tiny stage, the crowd participation its all there. It realy does rank up there with the Minor Threat buff hall show (if you have that DVD you will know what I mean)
All the classic Bad Brains tracks are there and the ratio of harcore reggae is about 70-30%.
Bad Brains have got to be one of the most important early hardcore bands ever and are without doubt up there with Black Flag, Dead Kennedys and others. It has already been gone over the unusual nature of 4 African Americans playing punk but Bad Brains realy were such a unifing band. In the crowd you see punks, skins, black, white (even a fair few females) just enjoying a damn good show.
The quality of the show is exellent (even when the lights go out for a few minutes!) and anyone who has the Minor Threat, Dead kennedys and Black Flag DVDs in their collection will want this one.
One big negative though is the 'bonus material' which cosists of 'interviews' with hardcore kids consisting of them giving their opinion of hardcore (like anyone cares) lasts about 5 minutes er.. seeing as this is a Bad Brains DVD how about a Bad Brains interview? The second peice of 'bonus material' consists of the track 'I and I survive' which it says is 'from the CD' sounds more like it was recorded in someones back room. Would have been a whole lot better if they had not have even bothered putting that stuff on the DVD.

Product Description
Since the release of their sophomore effort for Roadrunner Records, The End Of Heartache, in May of 2004, Killswitch Engage has exploded into the mainstream - selling over 375,000 copies of that album, landing the lead single to the film Resident Evil: Apocalypse, headlining two highly successful US tours and co-headlining both the inaugural Taste of Chaos Tour and Ozzfest.
With all of that time spent on the road, Killswitch Engage has honed its chops and become a live force not to be reckoned with. The band lays it all on the line with {Set This} World Ablaze which was filmed at the sold-out Worcester Palladium in July of 2005. Capturing the power and the passion of this five-piece, {Set This} World Ablaze catches Killswitch Engage draining every ounce of energy out of the 3000+ capacity crowd and leaves them all begging for more.
DVD INCLUDES:
Over 75 minutes of live footage captured at the Sold-Out Worcester Palladium
All of the band s videos
On the Road & Behind the Scenes footage
Extensive interviews with the band
Interviews with other bands from Ozzfest 2005
Format: DVD VIDEO
Customer Reviews:
best music dvd ever.......2007-05-11
This is hands down the best metal/hardcore music dvd ever! If you've ever seen killswitch live you know they never dissapoint. If you haven't seen killswitch this is the perfect product to introduce you to them. The sound quality is excellent, as is the video coverage. Killswitch is the bbest band in the scene today, possibly ever. In this dvd they play almost every song from the first two major releases. Do yourself a favor and buy this dvd.
F'ing Awesome.......2007-02-20
This DVD is worth every penny, it's good enough that I decided to actually take the time out of my day to write a review for it. The concert footage is grade A material, the crowd is into it and the band rips. The audio quality is excellent and the setlist was perfect. Now I'm just a casual fan of KSE but I thought this was a great DVD
Now the main reason I love this DVD is because of the extra footage that it comes with, about 80 min or so of basically a documentary of the band and all the bands that grew up around them and with them. Most of the bonus footage is funny as hell, with all the other bands talking crap about them in a joking manner. It literally had me laughing at loud at a lot of stuff. All in all this is probably one of the most satisfying DVD's I've ever purchased
And as mentioned on the documentary "Killswitch Engage....Sh!^ty F#@*ing Music for Sh!^ty F#@*ing People"
A Metal Masterpiece.......2006-11-14
This DVD features a solid KsE show at the Worcester Palladium that any fan of the band will thoroughly enjoy and that will impress any fan of metal. Great behind-the-scenes footage and an interview with the band cover the history, development, and successes of Killswitch Engage with a healthy helping of humor that shows the true personalities of your favorite band members. Anyone who listens the Killswitch Engage wants to own this DVD.
awesome dvd. worth every penny.......2006-11-06
if you are even the smallest fan of killswitch engage then you will love this. it has great quality footage unlike most bands dvds and really shows the band's personality
If I ever get the chance to see them Live. Hooray For Me........2006-07-04
I wasn't that big of a Killswitch Engage fan before this DVD, lets just say I own thousands of CD's. It takes a lot to impress me. I put this DVD in and listened to the very opening of the concert. It had more energy in it then any other Concert I have seen, it sent shivers down my spine with Howards scream. Even more impressive is the band is not worried about image. They let themselves be goofy which makes it even that more entertaining. Above all is talent. This band is talented. The more I watch it the more I love it. And aside from the Live show I like to watch over and over again, there is the documentery. That is as entertaining as the live show is, talking with many other bands about Killswitch as well. One of the most entertaining documenteries Ive seen. Just go get the CD and stop reading. You could be enjoying it now.

Description
A graduate student (Denise Richards) in need of money is coaxed by her prostitute neighbor (Daryl Hannah) to enter the world's oldest profession. Based on a best selling novel, their story is interwoven with stunning interviews with working prostitutes, from the highest paid call girls to the truck stop hookers. Often touching, sometimes shocking and always entertaining, this film will impact your view of the people who serve society's most basic urges.
Customer Reviews:
It's not a movie, it's not a documental, it's in the middle, what makes it strange.......2007-05-25
Honestly I would give it about three and a half stars. I got the movie thinking about a drama, the plot according to what I had seen sounded interesting. Well, I was waiting for a drama movie, mostly fiction, and it is about two thirds documentary and a third of drama, and usually it has to be a really great person who puts two so different things on a same movie and it ends up being great... and this is not the case.
For the documentary part: Realistic interviews, variety of topic, very shallow on each topic though. Superficially informative.
As for the drama attempt: The idea of the plot is interesting, the execution of it is poor, but well, complex plots are not easy to get in 30 minutes, that is actually more of what this director gives to the plot itself. Besides, the dramatic scenes are pathetically SLOW.
Great soundtrack. I would like to have those songs, but most of them I had never heard them before, and I don't know the names or so, and Amazon doesn't have it either.
Denise Richards Strikes out.......2007-02-10
A bad movie. Not even if Denise had been nude, it still would have been bad.
Boring. slow.......2007-01-15
I bought basically, because I love Denisee Richards and Daryl Hanna, plus I like also Valerie Tasso, besides I am a fan of Pierre Woodman, they all appear on the film, among some well know adult stars like Dora Venter, Rita Faltoyano. But really the film is not good at all, it is slow, the elements don't match. It is sometimes hard to follow. It is really not worth buying it.
A Tedious Affair.......2006-10-09
Persons looking for gratuitous titillation from bombshells Denise Richards or Daryl Hannah will be disappointed. Those looking for a story line will similarly be disappointed. In fact, anyone seeking any entertainment at all will not find much of worth in here. All is not lost, though. Persons looking for short interviews from people in the sex industry might find something of interest.
Ostensibly, this is the story of two women. Denise Richards plays a doctoral student who trying to get through school. Daryl Hannah plays an older woman in her apartment building with no visible means of support. When Richards has a hard time making her rent payments, she asks Hannah how she pays the bills. Her answer is simple. She's a hooker and she offers to help Richards into the business. She does with mixed results. That's virtually the entire story line but I would be surprised if it is even a quarter of the film.
Most of the film is taken up with short interviews of people in the sex business. Some are truck stop hookers; some are high priced call girls. Some are pimps and madams. Some are customers. Few of them speak English and the interviews are subtitled. There seems to be some unity of theme with the interviews. Similar questions are asked of various people within the same segment. These segments have nothing to do with the story line. They are merely interspersed throughout.
Its all kind of sad. One gets the impression that a truly fascinating documentary could have been made. One also suspects that a really fine movie could have been made. This is neither.
Eh..........2006-09-09
Calling "The Life" a movie would be inaccurate. It's not there to be enjoyed or to entertain; And it's more like a documentary with a pointless storyline involving Denise Richards and Daryl Hannah. The only reason I rented this movie was because Richards and Hannah were on the cover and it has a tagline that says "What's your pleasure?" Well, Richards and Hannah is a good start. I rented it and only when I got home did I realize that it's got a pitiful storyline interwoven with interviews. The movie is a little over 70 minutes. This is a rough estimate, but about 55 minutes is interviews...The storyline is barely there, the filmmakers have thrown the two actresses on the cover to get people to do exactly what I did. Grab the movie. They would've been better off editing out all of Richards and Hannah's stuff, because basically it's about A graduate student (Richards) who's neighbor is a prostitute (Hannah). Her grant is running out and she needs to make money, so she (kinda) takes up the world's oldest profession. There is almost no character development and you feel nothing for any of these characters. The interviews (which claim that the people aren't actors, but their dialogue sounds very scripted) don't really do what the filmmakers want. They don't leave you mortified and haunted, they basically tell you what you were already aware of and they don't speak that graphically. It's the final scene, where each prostitute reveals where they see themselves in a few years. It's a sad to see that some of these people have dug themselves so deep into this profession that they're not even sure how to dig themselves out. If you want to see a pseudo-documentary on prostitution, then you mihgt like this. If that doesn't strike your fancy, don't bother.

Comedic Storytelling at its Best.......2007-03-29
The thing that sets Jim Breuer apart from most comedians today is simple. He's an honest to goodness great storyteller. His jokes are more than just mere setups and puchlines, they are an inside look into his life. When you listen to his standup, you feel as though you've known him for years. Hardcore is a hilarious routine that encapsulates all these elements. From his dead-on impressions of AC/DC, Joe Pesci and Jack Nicholson to imitating his mother talking to him about the type of people he hangs out with, Breuer executes his comedy at brilliant, hilarious lightning speed. He has a limitless amount of energy, his facial expressions are hilarious and his voices are great. This is a must own DVD for anyone who enjoys hilarious, honest comedy.
Nice head deeek.......2005-04-17
Breuer is funny as hell. His stand up is getting better and better. What a difference from his old Comedy Central stand up special (Pulp Comics I think). With his tales of growing up on LI, to him becoming a grown up (yeah ok) its pretty darn funny. Cant wait for him to start working on some new stuff, and maybe make some appearances on the Opie and Anthony XM radio show.
To not find his stuff funny means you have no sense of humor, or like Chris Kattan funny (aka awful/terrible idiot comedy). Didnt laugh once...? C-span...? pffft. Someone has it in for a certain comic. And he pretty much stunk on SNL.
Straight to the used-DVD bin.......2004-10-17
This is utterly and spectacularly lame. Jim Breuer is a modestly talented sketch comic (mid-90's SNL) but excruciating at stand-up. Lots of yelling, mugging, and running around the stage but it just ain't funny, dude. We did smile at his spot-on AC/DC imitation, but that was the show's finale.
Looks like most other reviews here are friends-and-family, with pandering quotes like "You almost get exhausted by just watching him run around the stage like a madman. There is hardly a second that goes by where you're not laughing hysterically." Rrrrrighht... My wife and I were so exhausted we switched to C-SPAN and got more laughs watching "Prime Minister's Question Time" in British Parliament.
Generally funny.......2004-10-01
If you have cable, you probably have seen most of this on Comedy Central. For those cable-challenged, Jim Bruer is most visible from his stint on Saturday Night Live (yeah, he was "goatboy"). He was also stoner "Brian" in the movie Half Baked. Here is his standup (with a heavy metal band backup, thus the "hardcore"). He works the band in whenever he ends a good joke by breaking into some basic AC/DC cloned metal riff. Yeah, I don't get it either, but Bruer is generally funny. He's only got about three basic voices that are spun into whichever character he's trying to bring forth (which accentuate the core of any of his routines), but does so with conviction and keeps the crowd laughing. Much of his humor is embellished stories from Breur's youth, giving him the fan connection of, `Yeah, I probably partied with that guy in highschool'. A couple of added scenes deleted from the Comedy Central special are some bonus laughs. And if you are really into Jim Bruer, you'll dig the extra footage of his first Comedy Central appearances where you might recognize earlier, less polished versions of his later material.
IT ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!.......2004-04-25
As a huge AC/DC fan, I loved Jim's impression of the band! Hilarious, accurate and flattering all at once! I also love Jim's Jack Nicholson, I mean he does Jack better than Jack! To the T! His voices, facial expressions are fantastic as are all his stories. Jim,You Rock!!! and so does your back up band! A dvd that will get played over and over.
