Blink.......2007-05-07
A lot of suspense and mystery as a woman tries to retore her eyesight through surgery from a childhood incident. After the first surgery, she begins to see images following the murder of her upstairs neighbor.
Pretty Good Thriller.......2007-02-24
If you're looking for a decent thriller to watch for a couple of hours then Blink is a good choice. It's not a spectacular movie, or one which you would probably want to watch again and again, but it is entertaining and worth seeing.
The best thing about this movie is Madeleine Stowe playing the blind woman, Emma Brody, who is given a transplant operation to help her see again. While her sight is returning she witnesses a murder committed by a brutal serial killer and becomes his next target. Stowe plays her character really well, making the blind scenes look genuine and making you care about her future. Aidan Quinn was OK in his role as Detective John Hallstrom, the police detective investigating the serial killer case who (surprise, surprise) falls for Emma Brody. My main problem was that Hallstrom's role wasn't really appealing to me. He was an extroverted womaniser before he met Emma, and he never really matured from this point. In the first scene of the movie Hallstrom gets drunk in a bar and tries to get Emma's attention, not realising that she is blind. I thought Hallstrom seemed like a moron in this scene and it didn't really bode well for the rest of the film or the developing relationship between them. I was actually much more intrigued by Hallstrom's police partner Thomas Ridgely, played by the quieter James Remar. The only problem with Emma's character is that the story demands that she does a couple of silly things, such as slipping away from her police bodyguard in the middle of the night and other unnecessary actions that nobody sensible would do when being hunted by a killer.
The plot is pretty standard stuff although it is shot well and the acting is good. The murderer never seems that scary until the final couple of scenes, when he becomes much more realistic. Overall, this is a good film and I recommend it for people looking for a decent thriller with a romantic subplot. It won't blow you out of the water, but it will keep you happy enough while you're watching it.

I enjoyed this very much. Of course, I have always loved Aiden Quinn, a Chicago boy who's been around a long time, and who I last saw in that great Friday night TV show that, drats, got cancelled, about a minister and his family. He was wonderful in Barry Levinson's "Avalon", and Madelaine Stowe was in Robert Altman's "Short Cuts" as Tim Robbins' wife. They both fit together well here, even thought she exudes more class than he. There's something so "homebody' about Quinn. This was his first big lead, and he handled it well. The romance is great. Much like "Wait Until Dark", yet Stowe is far from the hapless woman. She is very feisty, very strong. The ending was sappy, but the rest was good. Filmed in Chicago. Look of the picture was dark and gritty - very film noir, except for the ending which was filmed in morning light. To be fair, the Chicago Tribune critic didn't think Quinn's cop was written as effective at all - that he was completely inept. Maybe I missed something, or she knows more about police work than I, or am I just lured by his blue eyes? SPOILER - --- And I couldn't quite follow the leap Quinn made as to the murderer being after victims who had transplants from one girl. How did he get to that? -------
I SEE YOU...SORT OF.......2004-11-18
A brilliant performance from Madeline Stowe elevates BLINK in an otherwise slow moving, at times muddled, movie. Stowe plays a blind violinist who receives a corneal transplant that results in her having delayed perceptions, that is seeing things that may have happened a day or so before. This involves her in the murder of a young woman who lives above her, and ultimately brings her to meet Aidan Quinn, an egotistical young detective, who is assigned to the case, and ultimately ends up falling in love with her.
Michael Apted's direction sometimes gets in the way of true suspense, the middle of the movie seeming to slow down, and the killings take second place to the love affair. A red herring is thrown in and you might swallow it, but the identity of the killer once revealed may come as a surprise.
Stowe and Quinn have a good chemistry and good support comes from James Remar and Peter Friedman, but it is Madeleine's marvelous performance that enlightens this film.

In Wayne Wang's star-driven adaptation of Mona Simpson's tragicomic bestseller about a mismatched mother and daughter, fortysomething Adele August (Susan Sarandon) is every adolescent's nightmare: over- (or under-) dressed, always and loudly "on," forgetful of mundane matters such as bills, more colorful kid than reliable mum. In contrast, 14-year-old Ann (Natalie Portman) yearns for stability, roots, understated hues. Transplanted from Wisconsin small town and extended family to a Beverly Hills, California, address of choice for American Dreamers like Adele, Ann comes painfully of age--sometimes blighted but also enriched by the fictions of a charismatic parent afraid to be alone in the dark.
Wang has always shown a sure, caring hand when it comes to cross-generational angst (see Dim Sum: A Little Bit of Heart, The Joy Luck Club, Smoke). Here, he encourages Sarandon in a remarkably brave, exposed performance as an aging adventuress whose imagination continually outstrips her ability to make dreams come true, whose charm is both her ticket to ride and a dead end. Portman's pout of strained adolescent distaste soon wears thin, but when The Phantom Menace's kabuki princess momentarily thaws, she projects a lost child's terrible shock and confusion. Hollywood-sized and scripted by the numbers, Anywhere but Here lost ground to Tumbleweeds, a similarly themed but more nuanced indie (with Oscar-nominated Janet McTeer), and it can't hold a candle to Barbara Stanwyck's Stella Dallas (1937), top of the line in this particular genre. But for any daughter who's looked into her mother's face and--yikes!--seen a possible future, this trip's definitely worth taking. --Kathleen Murphy
Description
Adele is flashy, flirtatious dreamer. Her daughter Ann is a quiet, no-nonsense realist. On the surface, they're like oil and water, but deep down there are two of a kind. "Susan Sarandon is show-stopping" (The New York Times) and "Natalie Portman soars" (NY-1) in this funny and touching story about a mother who knows best and a daughter who knows better!
Customer Reviews:
Whole Less than Sum of Stars.......2006-11-20
Part of my wife's birthday celebration involved watching old "bad" movies on DVD. We bought this one in WalMart for less than $6. It was my favorite of the two as I've always liked Susan Sarandon, and have adopted Natalie Portman as a new favorite after seeing Garden State. The two play a typical mismatched mother-daughter pair--Susan ostentatious and Natalie reserved, as they live and learn in California after Susan decides that their small-town life in Michigan just won't be enough. Both actresses do a nice job, but the story's a little too pat for this to be a good movie.
Single mothers & their daughters - "The intelligent girls are inside".......2006-07-20
This is a movie about the competitive & conflicting relationships of mothers and daughters, and their rough journey to learn how to better communicate and understand each other. Ann, played by Natalie Portman, is the daughter of Adele, played by Susan Sarandon. Adele is domineering, excessively well-intentioned, and charismatic to a fault, believing often in appearances over substance.
Ann hates the level of invasive direction that she receives from her mother. She says to a police officer who is giving her mother a ticket: "You don't even understand. I'm going to leave her one of these days."
Officer: "I'm sure you will. But not today."
Ann: "Why not today?"
Officer: "Well you should leave her when you're calm. When you're rational. You leave her when you're ready not to come back. You understand?"
The same officer plays a pivotal role, once early in the film, and once near the end. The timing of his appearances in the screenplay are not incidental. The officer is ultimately setting up a social test for the daughter to consider, a test he hopes will deter the daughter from leaving unwarrantedly and not before she exhausts every option she can discover. And he speaks with conviction and earnest, probably because he has personally seen what harm can come from people leaving each other or talking to each other when they are not calm or rational.
Sometimes when I hear daughters complaining about the faults of their mothers, I think, "That is very bad. But it's probably not as bad as what your mother had to endure with her mother." We live in a "story rich" world, where we are exposed to thousands of novels, TV, and movies that can give us relationship examples of how to better relate with each other. Our parent's parent's generation had far less social education and diverse social modeling to examine and compare. They had few parenting guides, no internet, and few social examples beyond their own family.
Adele discovers that Ann wants to live on the other side of the country. Ann comes home to find her mother has opened her mail and says, "You opened it?" Adele replies, "Well, how else am I going to know how you're planning your life? I mean after all I'm only your mother. Why would you confide in me? Thank you very much. Go ahead, open it. I'm sure you'll be very happy. PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND? Could you have gotten any farther away from me?"
Adele is admittedly selfish, irresponsible, and "the lights go out sometimes." And in the final scene with the officer, she says, "Did she tell you any of the good things that I did? Because I did a lot of good things. She's always had a warm home, food and clothing. And I got her into the Beverly Hills school system. Did she tell you that? You know, she could have been an actress, but instead she's going away to college. Doesn't she know that I would do anything for her? I mean, I love her. She is the reason that I was born. Doesn't she understand that I would do anything for her?" The officer replies, "Then, you know what to do." And Adele does IT. She sells her prized car that brought them to LA and facilitates Ann going away from her and to the other side of the country, so Ann can pursue her own, separate dreams. Adele lets go. Adele doesn't lose her level of love for her daughter. She doesn't diminish her level of attachment to her daughter. But she let's go.
The officer can see the conflicts of the mother & daughter and he tries to lead by example. He starts by exampling forgiveness. "I'll tell you what. This is what I'm going to do for you. I'm going to let you go . . . Watch the signs PLEASE." This is a beautiful movie and I recommend it to any person who wants to improve fractured relations with family members.
Mother and Daughter re-define their relationship as they grow.......2006-05-08
Susan Sarandon is a perfect choice for this quirky, yet very human portrayal of a single-mom who lives in her own theatrical reality. Her daughter is the more mature of the two, played by a very green yet forceful Natlie Portman, and she has the unfortunate task of trying to find her own identity while keeping the pieces of her mother intact while they pursue her mother's quest for a life of glamour-even if said glamour is not exactly the usual definition of the word. This movie is all about self-exploration and being able to find yourself without losing the relationships already present in your life.
TEETERS ON THE BRINK OF WARM-FUZZ BUT HAS ITS MOMENTS.......2005-08-23
Call me a sucker for soft squishy comedies but I had a good time watching this mom-daughter relationship yarn. It's every bit a chick-flick, simmering with pretty much every emotional relish that makes movies like it so dreary -- tears, hugs, generation-gap misunderstandings, emotional quibbles, boyfriends that never were but mom suspected, plus that very inevitable radio scene where the big chick/small chick croon along on a triumphant life-affirming note.
All this comes with one little twist though. The "We didn't come to Beverly Hills to struggle" mommie dearest here is the starry-eyed one. She hitches their wagon to LA and thrusts audition advertisements in the "Why can't we just be normal" daughter's face. The idea is to make the daughter a star, while the poor little one is perplexed with her mom's type-A complex.
Thankfully, most of it is handled with grace and just the right dash of fun moments to make it eminently watchable. The leads are great, especially Natalie Portman in her understated role, certainly a pleasant surprise when I think of her recent 'Closer' jig. Sarandon carries just the right kind of quirks to be a cheery if somewhat absurd mom.
Decent rental.
THE PROVERBIAL MOTHER/DAUGHTER LOVE/HATE RELATIONSHIP.......2005-02-05
This film deals with a theme with which almost all mothers of teenage daughters are familiar. This is a coming of age story which sees Natalie Thompson play the teenage daughter of a loud, flighty, impractical dreamer, wonderfully portrayed by Susan Sarandon.
Sarandon is on her second marriage, living in Wisconsin with her teenage daughter. She is bored by her nice, dull, skating instructor, second husband. She is tired of living among her complacent, middle class relatives. She dreams of riches, stardom for her daughter, and a more exciting life. She has dreams, big ones, but really lacks the wherewithal to make them happen.
Her daughter is a bit of a mouse, who likes all that Sarandon seems to abhor. She likes Wisconsin, her family, and what she views as relative normalcy. Unlike her mother, she does not feel called upon to explore new horizons. Naturally, given the divergence of their dreams, they inevitably clash, and the daughter, given her youth, must go where her mother decides to wander. Here, it turns out to be Beverly Hills, the land of milk and honey, or so Sarandon thinks.
While living on the fringes in Beverly Hills, Sarandon sees that her daughter attends a good school. Yet, they live like vagabonds, moving from apartment to apartment as the rent becomes due and cannot be paid, and the lights are turned off for non-payment of bills. The mother, a holly-go-lightly, wants to live well and meet the exciting man of her dreams who will enable her to live out her fantasy life. She is, at times, desperately pathetic, looking for love in all the wrong places. Her daughter, while responsible and a good student, can be an insufferable little prig who, when the chips are down, however, remains loyal to her errant mother.
Their differences in style cause them to clash and misunderstand each other with resultant angst over the years. As time goes on, their life does seem to stabilize. It is not until the daughter is ready for college, however, that Sarandon fully realizes that her dreams are not necessarily those of her daughter. It is then, that they both realize just how much each loves the other, as Sarandon finally steps up to home plate. This is an enjoyable mother/daughter flick.

Pile of crap.......2007-05-28
I'm a big BLink fan, but I was completely disappointed with this video. All it shows is them talking, hanging out in the van, and Tom drueling on himself. It's pointless, there's pratically no music in here, it's just showing snippets of their lives. Completely boring pile of crap!!
If you want videos and music, get the Best of BLink instead.
Blink 182 Fans Will Appreciate This DVD For What It Is........2006-11-26
As in the title, Blink 182 fans will appreciate this DVD for being a compilation and inside look at who the band is and how they've grown. As in the first DVD they released, you get an inside look at the band and what not. There's not really anything to critique. If you're a Blink 182 fan, or want to learn more about them outside of the CD's, buy it.
blinks just awsome.......2004-07-15
ok, 2 words. f***ing rad. i've been a blink far since i was 9 and im 15 now and i picked this up prob. about 2 years ago when it came out, and oo man, after seeing the 1st urethra chronicles i thought i was the biggest i could possably be, but after this, ooo man. its got their music videos from take off your pants and jacket, and the original stay together for the kids video that never got released, and its got videos of them live in chicago. i just hope they put out another video of them for the selftitled album, i heard theyre puttin out a video of the tour with no doubt, but i don't know, thatd be rad tho.
I LOVE BLINK.......2004-06-23
I love blink 182, all the t-shirts i have are hurley or blink 182. Blink 182 is the best and so is this dvd. EVERYONE should buy it. They talk about the funniest stuff on this dvd, there is live footage, there is 2 different video for stay together for the kids. Blink 182 is AWESOME!
funny!!.......2004-06-21
I don't have the first DVD but I went ahead and bought this one anyway. Although I'm not a huge blink fan and only have their latest self-titled, I absolutely loved this DVD. It's really funny! Tom talking about aliens and UFOs is pretty intersting. I don't know but I think it's more Tom and Mark than Travis shown on here but it's all good. It's pretty fun to watch these guys just have fun and be crazy. But at the end they talk about how good of friends they are. I love it. It's one of my favorite DVDs. The special features include live footage, music videos, Mark and Tom talking about unicorns and some enchanted forest (its funny), Tom talking about UFOs and stuff like that, a Travis drum solo, photo gallery and a few other things. I loved this and I have to buy the first Urethra Chronicles. I made my sister watch it too even though shes not a fan of blink and she liked it. If you love blink 182, like blink, semi-like blink, or never even listened to them, you should still buy this dvd.

Great Songs From a Great Band.......2007-05-19
In my opinion, Blink 182 is one of the greatest bands of the pop/punk genre ever to have exsisted. This cd is everything it is supposed to be. A few good songs from each of their cd's. Basically, all of their singles are on here, so if you liked the Blink 182 you heard on the radio, then you'll love this cd. In addition, it has the songs "Man Overboard" (from "The Mark, Tom, and Travis Show), "Not Now" (a song that was released on the self-titled album in other countries), and "Another Girl, Another Planet" (a cover song). The first two songs listed are both excellent, great, friggin AWSOME songs that most people hadn't heard until the release of this cd. The latter...not a complete waste of time, but not all that good either...anyway, this will probably be the last cd from a band that has, unfortunatly, died. Let us pray they come back and give us more great music. Until then, we have the greatest hits.
wheres blink?.......2007-03-25
This is a pretty good dvd its just lacking alot. Its just the music videos of blink 182, it has no comentary by the band members, no behind the scenes, or even a single extra. The videos are cool to see but i see them on the internet. They need some extras even just a single behind the video would be nice. I suggest you just watch the videos online or download them, save your money.
Todos los videos........2006-03-23
Trae todo lo que pensaba que traia... todos los videos.. aunque debio traer otras cosas extras..

Cool biography - shame no Blink 182 Music.......2005-12-09
Blink 182 - Not Guilty, is a film about this amazing band and I wish they hadn't split up. It contains some interviews with the band, but mainly interviews people that knew them (from school etc) and worked with them. I didn't mind watching it even though it's unauthorized and so doesn't contain any blink 182 songs. If you want to know the background on this ace band, and don't know much about them, then this DVD is for you.

NOT Punk!!!!!!.......2005-08-19
if you think blink 182 is punk you are clueless. punk is bands like Discharge, Varukers, Crass, and Negative Approach. blink is just poop crap. there is no such thing as pop-punk, punk and pop are opposites. igf this is your idea of punk please kill yourself. keep punk loud, fast, heavy, abrasive, discordant, angry, primitive, minimalistic, and challenging. i wish i could give this less stars.
OMGZZ BLINK IS AWESOME.......2005-06-29

Not For Everybody.......2004-11-07
Punk Poets is the only biography that is availible on dvd that is acually worth buying. It gives you insight into tom's high school years by actually interviewing the people that lived it trough with him. and includes very few scenes with the blink guys. It also has a discography on the disc itself and a trivia quiz to test your knowledge on blink 182. Altough it is not the perfect biography, it is still the best one on the market today
Don't waste your money on this........2004-09-28
If you're looking for a good Blink 182 dvd, don't buy this.
If you're a fanatic and you buy every Blink 182 dvd or cd, still don't buy it. It's a piece of crap. It barely has any footage of Blink. Most of it is just old aquantences talking about them (not as thirlling or interesting as it sounds) They repeatedly show the people talk about the same topics, more than once. Not just each of them talking about the same thing, but they actually show them saying the same damn thing more than once, even more than twice! And it gets really irritating and boring.
They also show this sucky surfing and skating footage time and time again. Also using crappy background music by some band that really sucks. Buy Urethra Chronicles 1 or 2 if you truly want a quality Blink 182 DVD.

This DVD is STOOPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2004-01-06
You do NOT want this DVD. Here's the what it basically is:
-it begins with a picture of all 3 guys and scrolls their names in front of each band member. problem is that whoever made this stupid DVD mixed up mark and tom, so immediately the whole DVD is ruined
-a long-haired idiot who wears glasses trying to talk like he's cool and knows blink-182. he periodically shows up throughout the DVD with his stupid hair
-interviews with a jonathen davis-wannabe, a porn star, a tattoo artist, and two random nobodys
-a 15-minute piece on the girl who kissed travis in the "All The Small Things" video and how she feels about it now
-clips of a random skater
-clips of fans from england
that's about it. the band's apperance on the DVD, when all put together, lasts about 5-6 minutes. the music's not even by blink. spend your money on something less crappy.
Waste of time and money.......2003-07-10
I am a huge Blink 182 fan. I have seen them 10 times in the past years. This band has helped me grow. Urethra Chronicles I and II are the funniest and best DVD's I own. However, Blink 182: Probed + Unauthorized was the biggest waste of time and money I've experienced in a long time! It consisted of a bunch of interviews with no-name people and NO live blink footage or videos. PLEASE do not waste your time; Instead, spend it on UC I and II and blink's CDs!
5 NEGATIVE STARS.......2002-07-06
This is the worst dvd I have ever purchased. 800 dot c-o-m agreed to refund my money because Blink 182 is not the subject of the video. A two-bit b-movie actress, a goofy narrator, and some guy from a failed LA band talk about Blink 182--a band they do NOT know! What a bore! Stay away at all costs!
DO NOT BUY THIS DVD, IF U HAPPEN TO OWN IT BURN IT.......2002-02-02

Worst video ever.......2001-12-19
First of all, the members of Blink 182 are barely in the video. Second of all, the people on the video are so far removed from Blink 182. For example, they interview a porn star who acted with Janine, the porn star on the cover of Blink 182's album "Enema of the State". She's never even met the members of Blink! She talks about Janine! Who cares? Third of all, the video looks like it was made in someone's garage. If you want a video about Blink 182, this isn't the video for you.
