As long as the hoods exist, so will hood movies. Directed by Lawrence Page (Statistic), Murda Muzik is set in Mobb Deep's native Queensbridge and was inspired by Havoc and Prodigy's 1999 album of the same name (there's also a soundtrack). The straight-to-video release, which features big-name hip-hop talent like Big Noyd and Nas, may be manna for Mobb Deep faithful--but all others are advised to proceed with caution. Unlike John Singleton's Boyz N the Hood, the king of the hood movies, Murda Muzik lacks a plot and the dialogue, which appears to have been improvised on the spot, is hard to follow. The action, such as it is, consists of drinking, smoking, and drug dealing. There's also some sex and murder. If that sounds enticing, you'd be better off with Brian De Palma's Scarface. Al Pacino's Tony Montana is everything the characters in Murda Muzik are not: interesting. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Customer Reviews:
Alright.......2007-02-07
I would only recommend this for Mobb fans only. It's okay to me because I am a Mobb fan but, to Hip-Hop lovers they may not like it because, the acting sucks as well as the production.
The Infamous MOBB/ MOBB DEEP.......2006-02-23
I've always been an Mobb Deep from every since The Infamous Mobb album & have always been a LOYAL fan even through the hard times of their carriers but, this movie wasn't really what expected. Over all I liked it just because it had my dawgs Mobb Deep(Prodigy & Havoc)& Big Noyd in it. It was real LOW-BUDGET!
M O B B D E E P.......2006-02-14
If you like mobb deep youll like the movie
and if you like ganster movies
on a rise and fall level you ll love this movie
Acting is alright
Story is pretty good
It's not that bad.......2004-07-06
i usually don't write reviewbut i'm forced to write this one cause the reviewers, i've read, seem to hate too much on this movie. My point of view is biased cause i'm a mobb deep fan. I won't say this movie is the greatest but it's not garbage too. The quality of the image is bad, but the acting especially big Noyd is good for a non professional. The plot is good, some of the scene are not necessary but it's ok for a first movie.
But please don't compare Scarface to this it's like comparing a Shaq cd to a Nas one.
This movie was seriously lacking.......2004-05-25
This movie was wack. The acting was just bad and there was no plot to speak of. It was all over the place with no resolution at the end. Mobb Deep should really stick to music.
