Editorial Review:
Amazon.com
This underrated film is by far Woody Allen's most satisfying I-wish-I-were-Ingmar Bergman movie, and in its elegantly constrained fashion it teems with imagination--not to mention a glorious cast. Gena Rowlands plays a philosophy professor who, subletting an apartment as a writing office, finds that the confidences murmured to her psychiatrist neighbor are audible through the air vents. In particular, the fears and desperation of a younger, very pregnant woman (Mia Farrow) trigger a stream of reveries regarding the professor's own life, past romances, and troubled family. Some of these seem to be straightforward memories (though we take too much for granted, and that's part of the point); others are theatrically stylized, with different actors taking over roles initiated by others (Rowlands sometimes appears in long-ago flashbacks, trading off with Margaret Marx as her younger self).
Allen had, like his protagonist, recently turned 50, and the sense of personal stocktaking here is much more compelling--and much less self-indulgent--than in a lot of his other films. Surely the magisterial presence of Rowlands made a big difference. She's in excellent company, including Ian Holm as the prof's tightly wrapped husband, Sandy Dennis as the dear old actress friend who hates her guts, and John Houseman as her widower father. Like Lloyd Nolan's in Hannah and Her Sisters and Keye Luke's in Alice, Houseman's turned out to be a valedictory performance. We cherish it--along with the inspired casting of David Ogden Stiers as, in effect, the younger John Houseman. --Richard T. Jameson

Woman in the Dunes is the proper version...........2007-06-07
The only film here I've seen is Woman in the Dunes, which is Teshigahara's most famous work. It's a great film, but Criterion is releasing the 147 minute version, which is the full length, director's cut. The original Image DVD was only 127 minutes long, and it's the only version I've seen. So kudos to Criterion for releasing the long version, and the other 2 films as well.
A great collection.......2007-04-25
Really looking forward to this collection from the incredibly talented Teshigahara. All three are Kafkaesque essays in one form or other on the nature of identity. And all are dreamy, disturbing and pointedly satirical. The beautiful images will linger in your head long after the films end.

You can't help but watch.......2006-08-04
Guilty, guilty, the guiltiest of pleasures. I have to admit (and I'm not in any way shape or form proud of this) I love this movie. Yeah, the plot is contrived. The acting, when it isn't over the top is almost painfully stilted and forced but it is just great fun. However, on the up side, Gail O'Grady spends half the movie in a tight fitting swim suit.
Don't expect a masterpiece. This movie is straight off the Lifetime Movie Channel so, of course, the schmuck husband (Midkiff) is a no damn good cheating liar. This guy has almost no redeeming qualities at all. And his stupidly transparent efforts to juggle a clingy wife (O'Grady) and his new girlfriend (Rinna) are so inept you just can't help but get sucked in.
This movie is good fun to watch, especially on a rainy weekend when you have an hour or two to kill.
Another Woman's Husband.......2006-08-03
I love Lisa Rinna. Two best friends find out they are in love with the same man has to be heart breaking. They learned something from one another.
Nothing.......2005-12-31
Bad Movie, Bad action and you don't get to see almoust anything....
tho words : money waisted
Typical TV Movie.......2004-04-26
It is indeed. A boring housewife/swimming instructor, Gail O'Grady, makes friends with a Psychologist, Lisa Rinna (you know, the one with the lips) while teaching her to swim as she tried to come to terms with her brother drowning years before (phew). However, Rinna is dating O'Grady's husband, Dale Midkiff, in his usual husband gone bad role.
O'Grady is very good, Rinna is her usual stilted self and Midkiff plays his part admirably. Not a bad story. Both find out about each other and, in typical feminist style which really belongs to the early 90s, they kick the husband into touch, telling him to hit the highway while they go back to being best chums.
Not bad, but not really worth buying unless you're a bit fan of the three leads. Although saying this, would you kick Dale out of bed for eating potato chips? No, I didn't think so.
Lisa Rinna & Gail O'Grady share the same man (w/o knowing)!.......2002-04-27
Lisa Rinna and Gail O'Grady become best friends..not realizing that they share the same man! Both women perform very well in this movie...I have been a big fan of both of them since Melrose Place and NYPD Blue. Sally Kirkland also does a great job in this movie as Gail O'Grady's mother. This movie is filled with so many different ingredients: intrigue, lessons on overcoming fears, and it helps one become stronger in believing inside what can truly make your life happy. I've seen it a few times, and enjoy it more each time.

THE WOODY ALLEN COLLECTION, SET 2.......2005-07-27
The second Woody dvd collection includes five films:
"Alice"
"Another Woman"
"Crimes And Misdemeanors"
"September"
"Shadows And Fog"
PRODUCT DETAILS: WHAT PRODUCT DETAILS?.......2004-05-15
How about including the names of the movies contained in this boxed set in your so-called "product details" ?
We all know that Woody Allan is virtually always "vaux le voyage", but the merest hint of the actual content would be useful here.
Bless you and may you have many children.
Great selection of movies!.......2002-06-15
This box is a good collection of some of the most beautifull films of W. Allen. This features some of the best directions of melodramatic films of W. Allen.
If you are a fan of Woody A. buy it now. If you are one of those very few who never saw a film of Woody Allen, buy one of the films not on this box. You will be back later to buy the box. Trust me.
What can I say?.......2002-03-02
The whole idea behind a Box Set, is to attract fans. So if you're not a Woody Allen sucker, you'll probably never come to this point of the navigation, specially reading reviews. The fact is, this Box Set comes with more "noire" films from Mr. Allen, not the best comedy, but some very good drama though. The Sets 1 and 3 are better. But what can I say? The worst Woody Allen movie deserves 4 stars and a half, but I could't figure out how to give them. So I gave it a five. You're his fan too, you understand me.
Quit complaining........2001-10-22
I can't believe all the bad reviews this has gotten. This box doesn't hold a bad film, yet there's so many complaints about it not holding any comedy or being to serious or something. First off, "Another Woman" and "September" aren't really funny at all, but hey, they excellent anyways. And the other three, "Crimes and Misdemeanors", "Alice", and "Shadows and Fog", are essentially comedies! Sure, "Crimes..." has a deathly serious side, but really... does that matter? "Alice" is one of those movies you can't really have any complaints about. It's really fun to watch. The weakest film here is, true, "Shadows and Fog", but that does not by any circumstances mean it is a bad film. It has excellent cinematography and it is really funny at times. Definitely worth seeing, even if it is one of Woody's weakest films. All in all, you pretty much get the best of Woody Allen here. Really funny, funny and whimsical, funny and sad, deathly serious, and more deathly serious. A fine box set. -Randy

I never received this product it was cancelled and my money was refunded
no explantion to why it was cancelled.
ORIGINAL IS BETTER~!.......2006-02-05
If you want UNCUT ORIGINAL version, ALWAYS look for ORIGINAL LICENSED Production. NOT US Release. Its a foreign film, it should not be US version to begin with~! HELLO!!!?? Why settle for LESS with US Version where they edit and cut so many excellent scenes especially with Jackie's Fighting Scenes. And US Release ruins the speed and sound as well. I have been collecting Jackie Chan's movies both HK and US Release Version for quite some time now. I found HK Version to be MUCH MORE in enjoyable, and HIGHER in Quality. American Market always like to "Americanize" and "Control". Regional Code Regulation thing is one of the example to CONTROL the Market. Why not let everyone enjoy the same HK Original Release move the same way ENTIRE WORLD enjoys it ?? No one makes Hollywood American movies to "French version" or "Chinese Version" ~! This what Americans are doing~! Well, enjoy the cheap "American version" then~! LOL
One Of The Better Harlequin Movies!.......2005-10-06
Another Woman is a made for television movie that is based on a Harlequin romance book and in my opinion is one of the better of the Harlequin movie adaptations. It stars Justine Bateman as a woman who is stricken with amnesia after she hits her head during a mugging and can not remember any details about her life or about her marriage. Apparently some event had caused her to become cold and distant to her husband and verbally abusive to her teenage sister-in-law who lives with them and since she has amnesia can't remember and doesn't understand why the man who says he is her husband doesn't trust her and why her sister-in-law hates her but as she gets to know them she finds herself fallling in love again with her husband and trying to help her troubled sister-in-law and added to that is a mystery man who is stalking the family.
Touching & Suspenseful Romantic Movie.......2005-04-01
I was enchanted and pleasantly surprised by this film. It is the story of a young woman who develops amnesia following an accident, and is brought home afterwards by her young, handsome, successful husband, who acts cold and distant to her. She later learns they have been sleeping in separate bedrooms for years, and are facing a pending divorce. She cannot get anyone, not even the psychiatrist who treated her both before and after the accident, to share with her why her once-happy marriage fell apart, or why she became abusive to her husband's adolescent sister who lives with them. Then there is the mystery of the dangerous-looking man in the old car who appears to be stalking her.
I found both of the main stars to be subtle and believable in their roles. Peter Outerbridge, as the husband, is cautious and coolly courteous, with an underlying sadness and perhaps just a touch of hope that their once happy relationship can yet be restored. Justine Bateman's character is fragile and frightened, and most anxious to win over her forgotten family. Little bits of memories fall into place as she views photo albums, hears stories about the past, and visits familiar places. She falls in love with her husband all over again, and becomes a dear friend to his little sister, but still cannot remember all the details of her former life, and the event or events that transformed her into the monster that she apparently became in the years just before the accident.
I have seen hundreds of mystery and romance movies, and read hundreds of books. But the climax during which Justine Bateman's character learns the truth about her past, while not exactly earth-shattering, caught me completely by surprise. This film left me feeling upbeat and warm and fuzzy, with a renewed hope in the power of forgiveness.
Excellent choice!.......2004-12-28
A woman has an accident and loses her memory.
Her husband wants to divorce her. Her niece hates her. And she doen't have the least idea why.
Very slowly she regains the trust of her family. And they start loving her again.
And then her memory comes back...
A really good movie - keeps you in suspence until the last minute.

Jameson
Description
Writer/director Woody Allen delivers a powerful, "searing adult drama" (Leonard Maltin) examining the life of an accomplished philosophy professor teetering on the brink of self-understanding. Boasting a superb cast led by Gena Rowlands, Mia Farrow, Ian Holm and Gene Hackman, Another Woman is Allen's 17th triumphant film. Stylistically rich and technically expert, the film layers past and present, dialogue and narration, reality and metaphor, to achieve a "lucidity and compassion of an order virtually unknown in American movies" (Time). Intelligent, accomplished and happily married, Marion (Rowlands) considers her life fulfilling until a chance encounter with a troubled stranger (Farrow) offers her a brief but piercing glimpse at her inner emptiness. Drifting in a loveless marriage and denying her feelings for another man (Hackman), Marion is shocked when she accidentally learns of her husband's (Holm) infidelity. Taking this as a sign to change her life, Marionconfronts the true depth of her own emotional hunger and the frightening intensity of a passion shehas ignored for too long.
Customer Reviews:
Gena Rowlands excels--as always.......2007-05-28
Thoroughly enjoyable film with v. good performances. Gena Rowlands is always excellent and doesn't disappoint here. The gradual revelation of cracks in her marriage is well handled and perfectly believable.
Count the Sniffs.......2007-01-12
I love this movie, and have loved it for a long time. I have a little game I like to play during a certain scene--and this is only because Mia Farrow's performance does not thrill me. If you know the movie, find the scene where Rowlands finds Farrow crying in the antique shop. The game is: count how many times Farrow makes that sniffing sound with her nose before and during the ensuing dialogue. Some of the sounds are close calls, but I count 24 sniffs! Anyone else?
Gena Rowlands is a marvelous actress and John Houseman breaks one's heart in his dream psychotherapy session.
Cold characters and bland plot make for a bad movie........2006-12-18
I gave this movie an extra pity star only because I adore Woody Allen's work. Otherwise this movie would have recieved only one star. The problem with Another Woman is that the main character, Marion, is a shallow and boring person. Her life is so dull that she has to listen in on sessions with a psychoanalyst and his analysands. In the process, she learns that she is not as superior as she thinks she is, and has hurt people and pushed those that love her away. In the process she learns that she is lonely and has been depressed for a while. The plot is overly simple and the script at times is forced and trite. The acting is often corny and pretentious. Gene Hackman, a brilliant actor, does co-star in this movie but only has brief and often irrelevant scenes of dialog.
I do not suggest you purchase or even rent this movie unless you want to be bored silly. This movie is not in the same caliber as Interiors, which was brilliant and well acted. In Interiors I actually cared about the characters and felt sorry for them and believed that they were having realistic life difficulties. In Another woman I had almost no interest or pity for the selfish and mildly narcissistic main character. The supporting cast often displayed selfish and childish behaviors too, therefore cheapening the already tedius and banal plot. This is not typical of the usual highly intellectual Woody Allen movie, instead it is forced, rushed, and very simple. I do not suggest you watch it.
Emotionally wise and personally bold from Woody A. .......2006-09-10
This is a fantastic introspective, profound and bold film, that highlights a sensitive and deep aspect of Allen's milieu of mid-life dis-enchantment.
Multiple marriages, psycho-analysis, anguished family dynamics, all of the interpersonal Woody favorites are here, but not given way to laughs, instead to meditation.
Gena Rowlands-whose presence as the muse may be a significant reason for the films wonderful idiosyncracies-is Marion, a 50-ish Philosophy professor, who takes a sabbatical to write a book and eavesdrops on therapy sessions next door to her rented studio/workspace. The strife of this other woman propels her into herself, her past, family, marriage, friendships, and the like, ultimately resulting in a clarity essential for this mid-life crisis to pass, and for her work and passion to continue.
Thankfully Woody isn't in this, but Gene Hackman, Ian Holm, Blythe Danner, John Houseman, Mia Farrow-doing her damnedest Allen-film neurotics, Philip Bosco, Sandy Dennis, Harris Yulin, Martha Plimpton and others are, and everyone is terrific. No doubt because the writing is crisp, difficult and honest, and the direction moves from casually circumspect to dream-like and very theatrical.

Good beyond belief.......2006-07-10
I took this movie very personally, found the beginning tedious, the middle painful and the ending joyous. I will keep this movie. Every actor in it (and it's quite a line-up of pros) was outstanding. Fortunately none of the reviews (that I read) gave away the ending or much of the plot. About the reviews. Houseman had more than one scene and many more than a dozen lines. The camera work was good enough (I don't know enough about movies to tell good from bad) I suppose, I found it a little labored, and was stunned by the triteness of seeing shots of the women's feet when one was hurrying to follow the other. Unlike another review, I did feel that a life-changing event had occurred and that things were going to be decidedly different, better for both the protagonist and others. Unlike the heroine, I'm turning 60, not 50, and I do not see 50 as old. But as the heroine said, 30, 40, 50 - she was told to expect to be overwhelmed by each of these birthdays and "traumatized" by turning 50. The woman said that despite these warnings, she was unphased by each birthday until she hit 50, and that that did traumatize her. I don't remember how I felt turning 50, but not much I don't think, nor much at any of the other ages. But sigh turning 60 has me down for the count. And I'm just taking up the violin. A thing I tried doing for a few months in college many years ago, but gave up. Now that it's "too late" to be anything more than a hobby, I feel greatly motivated. Enough about that. I doubt it will make you want to watch the picture. I recommend this movie without reservations. Allen's protagonist split an infinitive in one of the early scenes. But the rest of his grammar was good in this flick. For a pleasant change!

Good stuff! Three more bedtime stories episodes........2005-11-09
This is volume two of the Bedtime Stories erotic series. Kim Dawson runs a brothel that caters exclusively to fulfilling the erotic fantasies of women. Like volume one, this DVD contains three episodes. Another Woman: Nikki Fritz wants to see her husband have sex with another woman. Strangers: Susan Featherly wants to have sex with a complete stranger. No Names, Please: Monique Jeanette wants to have a relationship with a man that is just sex, nothing more. I didn't find any of the stories at all interesting, but the sex was great.
There are eleven sex scenes. All are boy/girl and all are very good. The women are attractive and hot. Both Nikki and Monique are Stacked, with a capital S. This was filmed when Nikki was still in top physical shape and all her scenes will leave your jaw hanging open. In addition to the women I've already mentioned, Tess Broussard is also in the cast.
Audio and video quality are good. This is very recommended.

Jameson
For Woody Allen fans this is a must. A treat and a pleasure.
