Description

Great movie - however this dvd is edited.......2006-12-01

An outstanding movie. This film has always been a favorite. I was sad to see though that this DVD version has been edited. Some lines are missing here and there. If not for that, I would rate it 5 stars. I do not understand why those lines would have been taken out.

Very Good Suspense Film: Underrated!.......2006-10-19

This film starring Rip Torn, Kris Kristofferson, and Treat Williams is a very good and suspenseful film. Two border patrol agents (Kristofferson) and (Treat Williams) are working in the Texas desert as border patrol agents. The entire border patrol is asked to place monitoring devices in the desert in order to help track illegal crossings. Since there is too much terrain to cover, the devices are meant to help make their jobs easier.

Therefore, the agents find themselves placing the devices in areas where they would normally never patrol. The devices need to be placed in the right geographical areas in order for the system to work. However, Kristofferson and Williams discover a jeep with skeletal remains, a rifle with a scope and quite a lot of cash. Since they both believe that this new computer tracking system will mean the loss of their jobs, and the fact that the jeep has been there for over twenty years, they feel any statute of limitations has expired. They are very wrong. What they are dealing with is way over their heads.

Wishing to keep this a secret [they need the money] they decide to look into the vehicles history. They both suspect that the jeep belonged to a drug runner. However, their inquiry leads to a vast conspiracy involving a major assassination many years ago. Moreover, they are unaware that they are being monitored; because when they looked into the jeeps license plate and the drivers license found on the skeletal remains, they alerted a secret team of agents of what they have stumbled onto. A team of agents [unknown] arrive to deal with them. The film is suspenseful and very good, with Rip Torn as an old time sheriff who knew Kristofferson's father, and knows quite a bit about the events that took place there many years ago. Highly recommended. [Stars: 4.5]

Great movie but some dialog is missing .......2006-08-02

I was surprised to find this movie on DVD. It has been one of my favorites. I still have the Thorn EMI video of it. I noticed some crucial lines are missing or edited near the end of the DVD version. When Kris Kristofferson's character is confronted by Rip Torn's character at the "coffin" place and Agent Logan(Kristofferson) is waving the rifle saying "who were you?" the video shows Sheriff Wells(Torn)telling him "That rifle, that's the one that did it" (referring to JFK assasination). Also, the dialog was a little offtrack after that and other brief scenes were omitted. Otherwise, I would have rated it 5 stars. Shame on HBO for editing it. A nice crisp copy of the film though. The music by Tangerine Dream is fantastic.

great little thriller beat oliver stone by a few years.......2006-05-20

kristofferson and williams play border guards who find a jeep buried for 20 plus years with a dead man a gun and $800,000 in cash. before you can say j.f.k. these boys have bitten off more than they can chew.
the thrills in this are very good and really you can spot the plot twist a mile away,but the movie is so good give it a try and i think you will like it.
