Buyer Beware Can't View on USA DVD players.......2007-02-19
I was very disappointed to find out that this DVD is not formatted to play on an DVD machines that are sold in the US. I purchased this for my mother and after receiving it we found out it was DVD 9 format. DVD players in the US need to have a DVD 1 or DVD global format. We are very disappointed that she can only watch it on the small screen on her computer. I had to pay way too much ($50) for a DVD that cannot be viewed properly.
Old Friends.......2006-08-14
As June Carter Cash said, "It's about four old friends having fun." If you like any of them...Willie, Waylon, Johnny or Kris..you'll see them blending and soloing vigorously: full of heart and vitality. It's a treat if you want the music and vitality, not just interview blah blah blah.
good concert show,.......2006-05-22
i saw them live in dublin two nights after this recording in scotland and they where much more alive than this night,, they seemed tired as if they had not had a night off shows in weeks but if you like these guys and the songs it is worth buying . it is a raw show and recording with the men and music stripped to the bone ........
Highwaymen Live.......2006-02-18
I have waited for years for the original Highwaymen Live concert to be released on DVD. Well it is on DVD...www.tracsnz.com
Just search for "highwaymen" and you will see it there. Incidentally, this is the ONLY place online I can find it.
Take the Money and run..........2005-12-13
The production of this DVD is so poor that I am amazed that
four superstars would let such a piece out of the door. I was
very disappointed in the quality of the sound and the fact that
the four stood on stage and pretended to play. Its almost as if
they had to meet some deadline to produce, or perhaps had a tax
bill or mortgage payment to make.
I must say if you like to hear Johnny Cash sing, its worth a
look. Willie Nelson crushes his pieces too. KK, what were you
thinking? Go to eBay and you will see my copy up for sale...
Don't pay full price for this one - sorry - call me odd ball
if you like...

Highway men made for one bored one woman.......2007-01-11
Highway men, a movie that seemingly promises action and adventure fell short and felt more forced than thrilling. Caviezel played the role as well as I guess that he could have but the movie's plot seemed to have had major flaws as to why no one ever questioned his sudden opperance on crime scenes and it didn't have enough small conflicts to build to it's final climax. There is no sense of closure in the character in tne ending. The deranged automotive driven maniac is very similar to paced movies such as Joy Ride or Duel the exception of the emotional and revengeful sentiment that it entails. Highway Men isn't the sort of fil that you want to rent if you inviting over friends who are thrill seekers but is more appropriate for cozy nights when you happen to browse over it on cable TV.
NOT GREAT BUT STILL ENTERTAINING!.......2006-10-03
While this is not the greatest film of its genre, it's also not a bad film either. The main weakness is in the writing. More effort should have gone into the script, which is a bit flawed. However, it was still an entertaining film. So instead of taking it too seriously, just sit back and enjoy the ride...er film. The story is a bit predictable, but that doesn't stop it from being an interesting film. The main protagonist Rennie Cray (James Caviezel) scours the countryside of America in search of the man who intentionally ran his wife down on the side of a road.
Moreover, Rennie has been collecting all sorts of newspaper clippings and reports of accidents that are not accidents afterall. Having witnessed his own wife's death by this maurauding road maniac five years earlier, he knows that these deaths are intentional. And all of them [or many] by the hands of this killer. The killer and main antagonist, (Colm Feore) drives a 1972 El Dorado. More interestingly, the killer is pretty banged up himself. He has a prosthetic body, almost every part of him has some sort of prosthetic device in which it looks like he himself was once in a bad accident.
However, his latest victim (Rhona Mitra) survives his attack of road-rage. And thus, Rennie believes that he must protect her. He eventually convinces her that her life is in danger, and that it is in her best interest not to rely on the police for protection. As Rennie commences to hunt down the killer, a cat-and-mouse game ensues. The film could have been better with a stronger script, but it is entertaining nonetheless. [Stars: 3.5]
Well . . ........2006-09-22
Okay, I'll admit it. This won't be a classic. It probably won't have a cult following-well, maybe a small one. But it was an okay thriller to pass two hours . . . give or take. There really were some "on the edge of your seat" moments. And it takes a skilled director to make an automobile seem terrifying on a movie screen.
Has anyone noticed that an actor who played Jesus (Jim Caviezel, *PASSION OF THE CHRIST*) and an actor who played the antichrist (Gordon Curry, *LEFT BEHIND SERIES*) were in this movie together?

HIGHWAYMEN
I still remember when I fist had seen the trailer for this film I had an immediate interest in the film. The image of the girl on the ground backing away from the car while the car slowly stalked her {see the back of the box for a visual} for those who don't know what I' am talking about. That wasn't the sole reason I wanted to see this film, two other factors played into this. One of which happens to be Robert Harmon, for those who don't know he is the director "The Hitcher". The other reason was because Colm Feore played the killer in this film, who is he you might ask. Well he played that devil dude in Stephen King's "Storm of the Century", which happens to be one of my favorite films, especially for a TV movie. So to say the least I was excited to see this film, even though it didn't turn out as good as I had hoped.
Not that it was bad, because it was entertaining and a pretty good movie; it just wasn't what I expected. After the image I had seen from the trailer and knowing who the director was I expected something as good as "The Hitcher". Unfortunately it didn't meet those standards to the fullest. The film in all was good and entertaining, but I didn't really find it suspenseful. A lot of the scenes were kinda predictable but the story made up for it. In fact some scenes were off the hook, like the way he set the two girls up in the beginning where Rhona Mitra got away. Rhona by the way did a decent job in this film, although it still bugs me that she didn't trust Rennie Cray {Jim Caviezel} even after he saved her. And Caviezel did an alright job in this film, he seemed a little one dimensional but that's just me. But he did do a good job with what he was given to play, and he made his character believable. Frankie Faison did a nice job as well on this film with his roll, I love the way his character finally got use a gun in the end of the film. But of course I came here to see Colm Feore, and like I thought he didn't disappoint. He played the roll nicely with a mix of arrogance and evil that made his character shine the most even though we don't see his character as much as the others. In fact that has to be a complaint of mine; we should have seen more of him. Just imagine if his character had been dug deeper into during this film, how great would that have been. That has got to be one of the things that writers Craig Mitchell & Hans Bauer messed up on.
Other then that their story is a pretty good one, in fact the idea and concept is brilliant. A guy who has lost all faith in the law after his wife is run down by a serial killer, who kills by way of his car, is let off while he has to spend some time in jail after nearly killing the killer after running into his car with his. The idea is brilliant but director Robert Harmon doesn't pull it off as well as he should have, of course it isn't all his fault the writers did slip with the finished script. Of course the producers as well are to blame, but I should stop blaming people. Because the film isn't bad in fact it is good, it just wasn't as good as it could have been.

This brief (about 45 minutes) documentary, also called American Revolutions: The Highwaymen, finds the country music supergroup at work on their third and final CD together. They were quite a team: Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson, a quartet of what singer-songwriter Rodney Crowell, Cash's erstwhile son-in-law, calls "poets, poker players, and madmen." What's more, these boys had been around; Cash was part of another supergroup, Sun Records' Million Dollar Quartet with Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis, almost four decades earlier, and here he estimates that he, Nelson, and the others have logged 135 years on the road between them. But having been at the forefront of what used to be known as the outlaw country movement, they were also unconventional guys who realized that there was a significant audience for their music somewhere at the confluence of hippies and cowboys. The documentary includes some old footage of all four musicians, but the bulk of it, recorded in 1994, finds them hashing over the past (including their differences--seems Waylon and Kris weren't exactly on the same page, politically speaking), preparing new songs with producer Don Was (despite their glowing resumes, all four seem surprisingly shy about presenting their tunes to the others), and at work in the studio. There are also recent comments from various others in their orbit, like Was, Crowell, and Jennings' son, Shooter, and wife, Jessi Colter. It's all rather poignant, as Nelson and Kristofferson discuss the deaths of Jennings and Cash (the former in '02, the latter in '03), but in the end, everyone agrees that if there's one word that can describe the Highwaymen project, it is righteous. Bonus material includes another half hour or so of interviews. --Sam Graham

The tape was awesome. The DVD will not play on my player. There should be a disclaimer, because it does not play in all rigion.
Excellent DVD...if it'll play on your DVD player.......2007-01-29
I purchased this DVD based on other peoples reviews raving about how great it was. So I bought it for $30.00, used. Too bad it won't play on my DVD player. Something about area restrictions. Although, on the DVD, it says, "All regions." I strongly say, "Buyer beware." I tried it on my Dell computer and it plays. And...yes...it is a great concert! I'll just have to be satisfied to watch it on my computer. Wish I could watch it on my 36" television instead of my 17" monitor. Just want to warn people out there.
It was dumb of me to think that I could just order a DVD and that it would have no problem at all. Even though very other DVD that I've ever bought, has played on my DVD player. Not this one. Be smart about this purchase for your sake.
Finally it is out on DVD.......2006-07-10
Like T. Cordonnier said in his review I too have this in VHS format and have been waiting for years in hopes they would market it in DVD format! These 4 fella's are all legends individually as well as collectively. It is somewhat rare that artists successful in and of themselves can team up together and not only be successful but humble as well. I love The Highwaymen and since the passing of Waylon and John ended any future collaboration it makes everything they have done together that more special!
The closest thing to the Highwaymen at the Patriot Center June 10, 1995.......2006-04-24
Written by Stuart Borris - Do not confuse this group with the original Highwaymen folk group, because the 4 guys that make up these Highwaymen are much different than the men who first used the name. These are 4 legends who came together to give real back bone to the name Highwaymen and this tape is a solid introduction to that. To say this item is great is like saying the Pacific Ocean has a lot of water. If you appreciate the roots of country music, this video is real proof that there was nothing like having Waylon, Johnny, Willie and Kris on stage at the same time working together. In this presentation, you see 4 legends coming together to make a rare combonation. These guys created something so special it can not be matched. The closest thing to them might be the Rat Pack or maybe if BB King, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen and Neil Diamond came together, recorded and performed on stage together. That is a tall tall order but the Highwaymen are all that and have made their mark for many generations to follow. I had the fortune of seeing these guys in person at the Patriot Center Fairfax, Virginia on June 10, 1995. Even though I had always liked Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings, my friend Eric had to talk me into going to this show. It was at a time when I was more into Hootie and the Blowfish and Collective Soul. Even though I wasn't excited when I came in, I came out of that show a real fan of the Highwaymen and an even bigger fan Cash and Jennings. It was my one and only opportunity of seeing them because they never returned to the Washington DC area again. I wish I had known how good they were, for I would have surely seen them multiple times. Even though there will never be another opportunity for me to see them live again as Cash and Jennings have passed away, the footage here makes it possible for me to see them again and again and again and again and again and again and again. The presentation does a near perfect job at showing their legendary presence on stage and incredible musical ability on stage. Along with that, it also provides an inside look at their relationship together through interviews and by the stories they tell. Afterall, not only are they performers, they are also emotional storytellers as well. As a result you will get a real feel of what the Highwaymen were about from this video. As Waylon points out in the video, "the best part of the Highwaymen tour is the music", and this video shows us why. As far as the orignal folk group also called the Highwaymen, these 4 legends do not take anything away from their musical accomplishments.

Description
This is the story of a group of young, untrained African-American landscape painters that emerged from the small central Florida town of Fort Pierce in the late 50s and early 60s. Segregation and racist attitudes of the time prevented them from working with traditional art galleries. Instead, they traveled throughout the state selling their paintings out of the trunks of their cars. The going rate was around $35 a painting. They painted on wallboard because it was cheaper than canvas. Back then, some called it "junk art." But in 1995 the Highwaymen became recognized by the art world. Today their paintings sometimes sell for thousands of dollars, and they are considered an important part of Florida's 20th Century cultural history. It is estimated that their aggregate work may exceed 200,000 paintings.
The Highwaymen had no pretensions about their art. They saw themselves as craftsmen, painting pictures strictly to earn a living. It was a lot better than picking oranges or whatever other dead-end jobs were available to them. They mainly painted Florida back-country scenes - coastal savannahs, hardwood hammocks, lonely tannin-stained rivers... expansive skies, capacious clouds, using bold strokes of dramatic colors. Theirs is an inspirational story of ingenuity and entrepreneurship, and ultimately, of perseverance in the face of societal limitations.
DVD Bonus Features include a Gallery of 56 Paintings from 14 Highwaymen, and Biographies of artists Alfred Hair, Harold Newton and Bean Backus.

art, business, race, and regionalism.......2005-06-01
A group of Floridian Blacks painted local landscapes and traveled to various towns selling their work. Now, it is being appreciated for the beauty and originality that comprises it.
For many artists, irrespective of class, art is about business. I love how the documentary shows that selling the art was as much of a preoccupation as creating the art. In fact, one of the school's leaders basically told his friends, "Learn this and we can make money off of it." These Black artists faced discrimination in the art world and the general employment arena, so this concern with money had nothing to do with silly concerns about "selling out." In fact, this documentary is rich because both the artists and the art critics discuss canvases, art supplies, artistic influences, perspectives, the motion of light and other items of concern to serious art collectors.
The controversial nature of the term "highwaymen" is discussed near the end of the documentary. The school should have been called "highwayPEOPLE" because there is a woman who is a member. In fact, she was the most articulate living artist of the school to be interviewed.
There is a double-edge sword here. On the one hand, I loved seeing a biracial coalition of people supporting this art. White artists, collectors, and ordinary people recognize the beauty and uniqueness of this work. However, there is a way that this work is not legitimized until whites gave it the thumbs-up. This art was nice no matter if VIPs appreciated it, so the white support comes off as a bit patronizing, even unintentionally. Still, to the documentary makers' defense, though a white artist was the major influence for this school, he is not mentioned until the middle of the piece; black leaders of the movement are brought up first. This was a good effort, I guess.
No one ever uses the term "folk art" here. I guess this is because the artists did learn their skills through apprenticing. They didn't just make it up as they went along. Still, these are everyday people and it shows. Some are missing front teeth; a few have Jheri curls. They said "he'p" rather than "help" and "fo't" rather than "fort." One man added an extra plural to artists: "Me and the other artistses did X,Y, and Z." Hilarious! And nice!
Though the title includes "outsider art," they don't go into why these artist qualify. Maybe the term gets thrown around easily nowadays. The work is mostly of landscapes. However, there are some human figures, specifically black Floridians as the models. I wish they had spoken of those subjects more.
These artists suffer like other artists generally and other Black Americans in a racist society. Imprisonment, alcoholism, black-on-black crime all come up. Still, I love seeing black folks' work being appreciated. I loved seeing Black folk expressing themselves creatively. This was an amazing piece that all Black Americans interested in material arts should peep.
