A young Jodie Foster stars in this compassionate portrait of four unhappy teenage girls struggling with life in late 1970s Los Angeles. Jeannie (Foster) and her friends all have parents who are either divorced, negligent, or downright abusive. Looking for some kind of point to their lives, the girls drink, do drugs, sleep around, and fight with their parents and each other--but Foxes isn't the trashy melodrama you might expect. The writing and performances are surprisingly good, though it's no surprise that Foster (Taxi Driver, The Silence of the Lambs) stands out for sheer charisma and depth. Director Adrian Lyne (Fatal Attraction, Flashdance) demonstrates a deft hand for juggling the girls' multiple storylines. Also featuring Sally Kellerman (M*A*S*H), Randy Quaid (Kingpin, Independence Day), Scott Baio (television's Happy Days), and a brief appearance by a very young Laura Dern (Blue Velvet, Citizen Ruth). --Bret Fetzer

5 out of 5 stars a forgotten star shines again!.......2007-06-26

Although Tyrone Power is probably a forgotten star to many, this collection of some of his most exciting adventure films reminds those who remember him, or those who are at least familiar with some of his work, what star power once meant during the "Golden Age of Hollywood". Each of the films are my personal favorites, and the DVDs in the collection contain some interesting extras such as interviews with Power's surviving family members and former co-stars, as well as audio commentaries film historians, film composers, and other film professionals. Each DVD also contains separate audio track of each film's original soundtrack. The "Blood and Sand" DVD transfer uses a recently restored print that brings to life the film's original "old fashioned" bold and vivid Technicolor. All in all, this collection is definitely worth owning whether you're a fan or just interested in a star whose name rarely heard anymore.

4 out of 5 stars Tyrone Power the movie star shines here. For Tyrone Power the actor, see Nightmare Alley.......2007-06-13

Tyrone Power was too earnest and straight forward to be a great actor, but he had what it takes to be a great movie star. The earnestness of his acting made him likable, even in those rare occasions when he played a heel. He was startlingly handsome as a young man. Even as his looks matured after WWII, he maintained his status as a romantic leading man up to his death of a heart attack when he was 49. As a heel, a hero or as a period swashbuckler, Power had that undefinable quality that made people want to buy tickets to his movies. These five swashbucklers, as variable in quality and corniness as they are, give a fine picture of Tyrone Power, movie star. He had to fight to be taken seriously as an actor, so I hope everyone who buys this set will also take a look at Power in Nightmare Alley (1947). The characters he plays in this set -- Juan Gallardo, Benjamin Blake, Pedro de Vargas, Andrea Orsini, Walter of Gurnie -- you'll probably forget. You'll remember Power as Stanton Carlisle.

Blood and Sand (1941) -- Blood and Sand is not a swashbuckler, but an allegory of a man's pride, lust and ambition, played out in the bullring, about a man who is redeemed by the love of a good woman and a death ennobled by regret. In other words, the movie is a Hollywood weeper. Still, it shows what can be accomplished when professionals take hold of a teary melodrama and give it color, sleekness, sex and, at 27, an extraordinarily handsome leading man in Tyrone Power. Rita Hayworth, as the femme fatale, is almost as pretty.

Son of Fury (1942) -- If Son of Fury were the title of a paperback novel, we'd expect a bodice-ripping, heavy-breathing Regency romance. What we have is a highly professional Darryl F. Zanuck adventure of surprising innocence and charm. Everything about the movie, from the actors to the script to the cinematography, features such a high level of craftsmanship that the few corny moments pass quickly. The story, even with a stolen inheritance, a wicked uncle and a South Seas cutie, is told with such professional attention to naivety that we cheer for Ben, hiss his uncle, and even find the unlikely conclusion satisfying.

Captain from Castile (1947) - If Captain from Castile is remembered much today it probably is because of one of the most rousing marches a Hollywood composer ever wrote. The "Conquest" theme is heard only three times, and the first two are brief but effective scene setters. We have to wait until the movie is almost over and Hernan Cortez is setting out on his march to the Aztec capital of Tenochititlan for the full treatment. The music, by Alfred Newman, embraces the moment, with hundreds of soldiers, the priests, the natives, the hangers-on spreading out before us, the horizon lightening and a single volcano smoking in the distance. The theme is inspiring, martial, emotional, uplifting and memorable. It's enough to make most movie goers want to sign up and most historians queasy. After all, in less than a generation a civilization of between 2 million and 6 million people was obliterated.

Prince of Foxes (1949) -- If passionate love, convivial betrayals and loyalty one can change as quickly as one's shirt intrigues you, you'll most likely enjoy Prince of Foxes. If nothing else, you'll learn a great party trick that involves two eyeballs and two thumbs. Prince of Foxes, in my view, is one of the best of the Tyrone Power adventure films. It stands out in part because we find ourselves operating in the lusty, double-dealing world of Cesare Borgia. And while Orson Welles, who plays Borgia, can't resist slicing the ham with gusto, it must be admitted that he brings a lot of joie de vivre to villainy.

The Black Rose (1950) -- And what's a black rose? We're told it is the name given to the clove, the most precious of spices. In this case, the clove is Maryam, played by Cecile Aubry. She was a small French actress who looks no older than 14. She has a small mouth which is filled with tiny teeth and a plump tongue, and she occasionally jumps about to express enthusiasm. If Vera-Ellen and Charlie McCarthy had ever had a child, it would look a lot like Cecile Aubry. The movie, The Black Rose, is no stinker, but the one insuperable drawback is its disjointed nature. We move from Norman England 200 years after William the Conqueror, to the middle-east and then on to a Mongol army moving and battling its way toward China, then to the imperial court of China itself, and finally back to England. It seems to me to be one of Power's weakest romantic-adventure films.

Fun DVD! I hate exercise and I loved this! It's good for any age.

2 out of 5 stars twice as much is half as good.......2007-03-09

We bought the work out CD because we had a tape of the first one. the second work out is a total washout. The first silver foxes is a good buy and a good work out. It is too bad thet the second workout is so poorly thought out. My wife and I think it is a wast.

5 out of 5 stars Exercise for Seniors.......2007-02-20

I purchased this DVD as a replacement for a VCR that has been used for years with a group of seniors at our church. They love it. It is gentle and yet works all areas of the body. Those who have consistently attended the sessions are in great health & condition. Most of them are in their 70's.

5 out of 5 stars Getting started again.......2007-02-17

I really enjoyed this exercise program. Richard Simmons really does a good job. If you haven't exercised in a while or if you're a senior this is a excellent dvd. I'm using it for my church exercise class which targets 50 and up. We used it today for the first time and everyone liked it better than anything else we have used. It's not so fast that someone older can't keep up and it's not so slow that it's boring for someone younger. Everyone also commented on the background music and how much they liked it. I thought it was paced just right and I'm 48 and have been active all my life. I also enjoyed exercising with my Mom who is 70.

5 out of 5 stars Best program for us senior citizens.......2007-02-13

I knew what was on this DVD when I ordered it, still it was more satisfactory in this form than my old VHS tape. I heartily recommend it to any and all seniors who want to keep limber and feeling tip top. The energy level is a big factor at 77! I don't want to lose it.

William Wyler and Bette Davis made their third and final collaboration their finest with this striking 1941 adaptation of Lillian Hellman's acidic play. The titular foxes are a particularly ravenous turn-of-the-century Southern moneyed clan, the Hubbards, and the most cunning of them all is sister Regina Giddens, the brilliant but ruthless woman played by Davis. In contrast to the manipulative Regina and her scheming brothers (Charles Dingle and Carl Benton Reid) is her guileless sister-in-law Birdie (Patricia Collinge in a delicately flighty performance) and her sickly, humanistic husband Horace (Herbert Marshall), whom she tolerates only for his money and position--until he stands in the way of a scheme that could bring her a fortune. Teresa Wright is the hope of the next generation as Regina's thoughtful daughter, Alexandra, who stands in marked contrast to her graceless, greedy cousin Leo (Dan Duryea). Wyler's longtime cameraman, Gregg Toland, fresh from his groundbreaking work on Citizen Kane, fills the film with amazing deep-focus compositions and razor-sharp images, showing off the grandly handsome mansion set in all its old-world splendor. But for all its beauty Wyler reveals it as a cold, lonely world ruled by a heartless woman. Excellent performances by all make Hellman's sharp dialogue glint like the edge of a knife, which ultimately cuts deep into the soul of this powerful classic. --Sean Axmaker

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The Little Foxes.......2007-06-25

Adapted from Lillian Hellman's Broadway smash, the third and final collaboration between William Wyler and leading lady Bette Davis, again playing a viper in petticoats, is a poisonous, effective drama set in the turn-of-the-century South. Davis was never so wicked, playing Regina to the icy hilt. A fabulous cast and authentic 1900s detail bring Hellman's loathsome characters to vivid life. Is this what they mean by Southern hospitality?

5 out of 5 stars Classic.......2006-11-03

What is there to say? The film is brilliant, soaring above merely perfect Holywood to come as close as one can to the great American tragedy. Superb performances by everyone. Why spoil it for you with details; just watch it and be overwhelmed.

3 out of 5 stars The Little Foxes.......2006-08-16

This was probably one of the few of Davis' movies that seemed to lead to a suspensful climax and then plopped to a disappointment and left one hanging waiting for an end and a conclusion that never came. When it said "The End", I couldn't believe it. Though it has been hailed on Broadway as a great play by Lillian Hellman, the ending was so abrupt that one has to wonder what the brothers did as retribution for the "blackmail" their sister was holding over their heads. It seemed like an unfinished plot. One assumes the mother and daughter's relationship has ended but one isn't sure and that could have been explored further. Davis gave her usual wonderful performance, as did the other actors, but I expected perhaps better writing of Hellman since the accolades for the book were so great. I was disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Another Bumpy Ride for Bette.......2006-07-19

Bette Davis is in fine form in one of her strongest roles. With a strong ensemble cast, "Tne Little Foxes" keeps the viewer on the edge of their chair, with a wonderful script by Lillian Hellman.

This is truely a classic Bette Davis vehicle that I can watch over and over again, because of the vicious Regina she creates.

If you think "All About Eve' was a bumpy ride, you haven't seen anything yet until you see "The Little Foxes."

5 out of 5 stars The Hollywood Golden Age summit.......2006-06-15

On its surface Lillian Hellman's play THE LITTLE FOXES (1941) seems to be about a wealthy family destroyed by greed in the Deep South of 1900. Matriarch Regina Giddens (Bette Davis at her icy best) presides over a family with a crippled husband (Herbert Marshall) and assorted morally weak and greedy relatives. Repeating their stage roles are Patricia Collinge, Dan Duryea, Charles Dingle, Carl Benton Reid, and John Marriott, according to Leonard Maltin. Making their film debuts are Collinge, Duryea, Reid, and Teresa Wright. Fans of movie trivia should remember that Collinge and Wright played mother and daughter in Hitchcock's SHADOW OF A DOUBT (1942). Collinge plays the weak Birdie here, while Wright is the hope for the future as Regina's daughter. It has a bitter and bitchy family at odds with one another. There is a cotton mill the family owns in town. Since it is prosperous, there are fights over ownership of it. And when a lot of bonds are taken from a safety deposit box in the town bank by family members, Regina wants them returned--or else the equivalent amount of money given to her in cash. As for husband Marshall, Regina stays with him for his money. This is gripping and superbly played drama. It is a complicated family drama, and I hope any errors on my part in terms of relationships are not serious and can be ignored.

Actually, THE LITTLE FOXES seems to me to not be about plot at all, but rather is an exercise in Hollywood Golden Age style. It is fabulously crafted by some of the greatest talents the movies have ever seen---producer Samuel Goldwyn, director William Wyler, writer Hellman, and star Davis in one of her greatest roles. Gregg Toland did the elegant deep-focus B&W photography (such beautiful antique lamps!) the same year he shot CITIZEN KANE. Art director Stephen Goosson won an Oscar for Capra's LOST HORIZON (1937). Costume designer Orry-Kelly won an Oscar for Wilder's SOME LIKE IT HOT (1959), with considerable credits in between. Editor Daniel Mandell won an Oscar for THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES (1946). The background score is by THE MUSIC MAN's Meredith Willson. And the cast is world-class, if not household names. This is such an exquisite movie to look at visually, to study the period re-creation carriages and wallpaper, to marvel at the old-fashioned vested suits, to listen to Hellman's dialogue. And moments of silence. Watch the chilling scene where Regina's foreground face is frozen in a chair while crippled husband Marshall tries to climb a blurry background staircase to get some medicine.

So THE LITTLE FOXES is a feast of a drama for discriminating audiences, and Bette Davis admirers in particular. Samuel Goldwyn also deserves a lot of credit. He didn't produce a lot of movies during the 1930's and 1940's, but each one seems hand-crafted and outstanding now, including THE PRIDE OF THE YANKEES (1942) and THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES (1946). William Wyler had previously worked with Davis on JEZEBEL (1938) and THE LETTER (1940); Davis won an Oscar for the former and a nomination for the latter. And Wyler directed Teresa Wright to an Oscar the following year, 1942, with Best Picture Oscar winner MRS. MINIVER. And Hellman's dialogue is cutting sharp and her characters treacherous. THE LITTLE FOXES is an extraordinary movie made by truly extraordinary talents on both sides of the camera. It is really a must-see and may even be a masterpiece, if it catches you in the right mood.

Although it is spectacularly photographed, there's no question about the main draw of Prince of Foxes: Orson Welles easily pilfers every scene he's in. Tyrone Power is the nominal star, but Welles gets to play the larger-than-life Cesare Borgia, looking to expand his power by gobbling up Italian land in every direction. Power, as his faithful and ambitious lieutenant, is dispatched to soften up a city-state... but it's Power who ends up softening. The production is beautifully mounted by director Henry King, with location shooting that rivals the King-Power collaboration Captain from Castile, although color would have made the Borgia world a more vivid playpen.

Welles was concurrently making his version of Othello, and used jobs like Prince of Foxes to pay for his own movie. There's no denying that things slow badly whenever Welles isn't on screen, although Everett Sloane (a longtime Welles company actor) brings vinegar to his part as a hired assassin. Ty Power, who already looks older than his 35 years, is clearly beginning to wear down as a dashing adventure hero--but both he and Welles would return a year later in The Black Rose, a bouncier epic entirely. --Robert Horton

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Power never boring!.......2007-06-15

Wanda Hendrix the the light weight starlet here. She was married to someone (can't remember now) semi famous.(Audie Murphy?) She ruins the picture for me and cannot play the love interest to the handsome, dashing Tyrone Power. Welles is always good and played with Tyrone in the Black Rose.

Enjoyable movies of another place and time. Not full of 4 letter words and explicit bedroom scenes. Romantic and entertaining.

4 out of 5 stars One of Tyrone Power's best, and filled with the amusing, cynical and deadly schemes of Cesare Borgia (Orson Welles) .......2007-05-12

If passionate love, convivial betrayals and loyalty one can change as quickly as one's shirt intrigues you, you'll most likely enjoy Prince of Foxes.

Andrea Orsini (Tyrone Power) is one of Borgia's clever lieutenants. He's smart, charming, deadly with a blade and almost as opportunistic as his master. As Borgia says when describing the kind of man he needs for a mission to Ferrara to undermine the duke there, "who but a man as quick at deceit as a fox? He must have the grace of a dancer, the wrist of an assassin. He must have little regard for good faith, yet by his astuteness be able to confuse men's minds....He must charm as a snake charms birds, yet he must make no friends, except for those who may be of use to him, and for the same reason although he may make use of love, he must not love." His mission to Ferrara a success, Orsini is sent by Borgia to secure the fortified Citte del Monte, ruled by the aged and honorable Count Verano (Felix Aylmer) and his much younger wife, the Countess Camilla (Wanda Hendrix). Orsini brings with him the unscrupulous and deadly rogue Mario Belli (Everett Sloane). Poor Andrea Orsini. As he witnesses wisdom and humanity, as for probably the first time in his life he begins to feel an honorable love, and as he knows Cesare Borgia will soon arrive with an army to demand the capitulation of Citte del Monte, he discovers that most uncomfortable of feelings...a conscience. Before long a good man will die, love will blossom, a great battle will be fought, a rescue from a dungeon will be planned and executed, the difference between conscienceless nobility and the nobility of the soul will be pointed out to us, and two eyeballs will be put in danger.

The movie, filmed in Italy, is briskly paced and well photographed. The battle scene is a rouser, with fat, stubby cannons blasting away. Great wooden trebuchets hurl stones and flaming balls of pitch into the city. Vats of boiling oil are tipped over onto Borgia's soldiers as they try to scale the city's walls. The screenplay is studded with clever, cynical observations about love, diplomacy and war. Unlike so many adventure movies, there really is no dud acting in Prince of Thieves. Even Wanda Hendrix manages the role of Camilla with enough dignity to win us over. The cast of featured players is strong, with solid performances by Felix Aylmer, Marina Berti as a cousin of Cesare who has her eye on Orsini, Katina Paxinou as Orsini's peasant mother and, especially, that first-rate actor Everett Sloane as Mario Belli. He went to Hollywood from the Mercury Theater with Welles and appeared notably in Welles' Citizen Kane and The Lady from Shanghai. He gets perhaps the best lines in the movie: "I discovered that the devil doesn't always pay best. This whole thing pleases me. Who betrayed who and where did it start? No matter. It shall be said among my fellow practitioners in double-dealing that I was the greatest of them all."

But what of Cesare Borgia? The movie implies that the forces of justice will rise up one day and smight him. In fact, Borgia was the illegitimate son of Cardinal Rodrigo Borgia, who became Pope Alexander VI. When his father became Pope, Borgia's career as a military conqueror blossomed. When the Pope died, Cesare discovered all his old friends quickly found new men to fawn over. After being imprisoned once or twice, he made his way to Spain, where he was killed in a battle against French forces most people have long forgotten.

The DVD features a black-and-white transfer which is in good shape, even in most of the night scenes. There are a few light-weight extras that I didn't sample. For those who like Hollywood movie music, it's possible to play the score without the dialogue.

And for those who enjoy reading as well as watching, the movie is based on the book by Samuel Shellabarger. It holds up reasonably well. Shellabarger, a professor of English at Princeton when he died, wrote four best-selling historical novels. Two were made into movies, this one and The Captain from Castile, which also stars Power.

Prince of Foxes: The Best-Selling Historical Epic

2 out of 5 stars Boring.......2007-05-07

This is supposed to be a swashbuckler with lots of action and adventure. It is far from that. It is slow moving. Tyrone Power is as usual handsome, and beyond that gives a fair performance at best. Orson Welles as Cesare Borgia is "over the top" evil. Wanda Hendrix is not at all believable. She seems to be a teeny bobber in costume. How Tyrone could find her fascinating rather than the beautiful Marina Berti is hard to understand. It is too bad that this was filmed in black and white as the sets, countryside, and costumes would have been marvelous in color and possibly helped to add to the movie. The Alfred Newman score was also very fine.

3 out of 5 stars Sad Ending.......2006-09-16

The movie is alright. But the scene right before the end is powerful and intense!! The last scene is all the more powerful with the addition of a melodic piano verson of Donna Summer's "On the Radio" playing. These two scenes alone make the movie worth watching - especially with your kids if you have them, and make you want to hug them and tell them you'll be there for them no matter what!

5 out of 5 stars Wake up Kids.......2006-08-28

The first time i saw this movie I was 15 yrs old and let me tell you, what I saw in this movie still rang true in my day. A Sobering example of young people not listening and thinking that life is a big game. Overall one of my all time favorites.

5 out of 5 stars "A Hole In Your Old Brown Overcoat".......2006-01-29

Jodie Foster is directed carefully by Adrian Lyne to break out of her typical cerebral mode and thuis give a performnance of real physical depth. You'll notice in almost every scene she's in, she's always touching, feeling, caressing the bodies of the other performers, the boys and girls alike, she can't take their hands off them, even when she's speaking of something else. And yet her need to feel flesh doesn't suggest sexual hunger, it seems instead related to a maternal instinct, for she's the one who's always taking acre of everyone else, even her own mother (Sally Kellerman). The scene where Jodie Foster climbs into bed with sleepy, nerve-wracked Kellerman and reads to her out of Plato--of all philosophers!-- touches something real in all of us who have ever wondered, who is the other half of myself? Yes, now and then Lyne crosses over the border into a realm of David Bailey bad taste, especially in the opening credit sequence that so lovingly explores the bodies of the four sleeping "foxes" who are having a sleepover. It might almost be an erotic thriller from SHOWTIME. However, that's what happens when you experiment, you risk bad taste, and I'd rather have a picture that was all bad taste as long as it was doing something unique. And most of the time the photography serves the characters well, showing the weakness as well as the strength, the maturity as well as the traces of childishness on the faces of all his young stars.

Scott Baio never changes expression in the movie, but we feel we know his thoughts anyhow and can feel what he's thinking in every scene. Part of this is to the credit of an exceptionally literate screenplay. People always brag on about, oh, I don't know, Peter Greenaway, but he's done nothing as good as FOXES. Maybe it's the title, but FOXES doesn't get much credit, does it? Jodie Foster should have gotten the Oscar for this movie, she does better work here than in either of the films for which she actually won Academy Awards. And Cherie Currie is fantastic too, she actually manages to seem like she's in some documentary about her own life, fragile, endangered, willful, ultimately inexplicable like all human beings.

And the whole milieu of an as yet ungentrified LA feels lived in, like an Altman landscape. You really believe these four girls live in this ugly, parched and commercialized space, so that when they visit Randy Quaid's canyon place, it really must feel to them like another world.

2 out of 5 stars a 'difficult' movie; unfortunately, it ain't very good either.......2005-10-14

It's always a shame to see a really talented actor/ actress star in a dud of a movie, but that's exactly what happened to Jodie Foster with 1979's "Foxes". Directed by Adrian Lyne, who would later go on to direct the notorious "Fatal Attraction", "Foxes" is a cheap, lame-brained attempt at a gritty look into the dark side of teenage life. The movie suffers from a painful lack of character development and goes in a seemingly incoherent fashion from one scene to another, making it hard to stay focused. The movie isn't a TOTAL waste--a few dramatic scenes do at least catch your attention; and Jodie Foster, still under 18 when this was filmed, has a real charisma about her despite the fact that she isn't given much to work with. Plus, that piano melody of Donna Summer's "On The Radio" which crops up throughout adds a nice melancholy feel. Overall though, "Foxes" really is pretty lousy and can't be given much of a recommendation.

3 out of 5 stars Twentiet h Century Foxes.......2005-08-26

There is a democratic school of film criticism which pretty much holds that a film is "artisically successful" if it speaks to its audience. Judging from the commentary I've seen posted on this film (on Amazon.com and elsewhere), I would have to say that Adrian Lyne's 1980 film FOXES has certainly found its audience. And judging from the abundance of five star reviews, it's clear that it "speaks" to them.

The problem with that "democratic approach" for me, however, is that while viewers may connect to a film that addresses issues near and dear to THEM, it is also true that a.) a better film might speak to them even more, and b.) there may have actually been a better version of the film in question, lying on the cutting room floor. With FOXES, this would seem to very likely be the case.

Those who came of age in the 70s or early 80s (particularly if they were from metropolitan areas) will likely identify with these high school friends who seem jaded beyond their years, simply because they've SEEN it all, even when it's the case that they haven't DONE it all themselves. (The big complaint of one of the "foxes" is that she's still a virgin--at least until about half way through the movie, when she's deflowered by a 20-something Randy Quaid of all people.) But unlike those of us a decade or so older, they don't get to benefit from a 60's style idealism. If anything, it's de rigueur for these girls to sneer at hippie-style notions of some of their parents. It's helpful to keep in mind that this film is from the era when the word "groovy" became used only in an ironic sense.

Would that the film actually explored the significance of what it meant to be 17 even as the "Me Decade" was drawing to a close. Unfortunately, the film is just too choppy, and in spots, too contrived, to really pull it off. In part, that's likely an editing problem (and there really WAS a better film on that proverbial cutting room floor). But some of its problems are also conceptual. Unlikely twists--like the chase-sequence-on-a-skateboard featuring Scott Baio outwitting a bunch of thugs--seem gratuitous.

But the more significant problem is simply that of a lack of sufficient character development in a movie that cries out for it. Odd in a way that a movie in which the characters struggle so hard to be cool should conclude with as hoary a device as a graveside voiceover. Well, actually, less "odd" than downright lazy.

A film like FOXES pushes enough buttons to be almost certain to "find its audience." But that still doesn't mean that that audience doesn't deserve better.

4 out of 5 stars I'm speechless..........2004-08-22

This is one of the most disturbing (and not to mention unintentionally funny) films I've ever seen. The dubbing is atrocious, the violence over-the-top, and the full frontal nudity extreme -- there is a LOT of male frontal nudity in this film; so much so that I suspect that either the writer or director was...well, INTO male full frontal nudity.

When watching this, notice how the gang members NEVER damage the hero's (?) car -- it probably wasn't in the budget. Perhaps it was even a loaner!

I'm giving this 4 stars simply because of how awful it is. It's so bad, it's funny.

5 out of 5 stars The most deliriously stupid, nasty, and funny movie ever!.......2004-05-23

"Mad Foxes" is the most deliriously stupid, nasty, and funny movie ever made. It chronicles the battle between a 30ish Stingray driving Eurotrash rich boy named Hal and a vicious motorcycle gang. The movie begins with Hal inadvertently killing one of the gang members through some reckless driving. The gang retaliates by beating him up and raping his 18-year old virgin girlfriend (only minutes before he was supposed to claim her virginity). Hal retailiates by getting a group of kickboxing friends to beat up the motorcycle gang, though he barely has time to check in on his girlfriend. In one of the most inept fight scenes ever committed to film, the kickboxers subdue the bikers, though, strangely, very few of their kicks and punches seem to connect. Hal and his buddies then castrate one of the leaders and then ... well ... it's not pretty. The violence escalates, but curiously, the raped girlfriend is never seen nor heard from again, even though Hal manages to pick up other women throughout the course of the movie. To call this movie action-packed is an understatement, even though its running time is just barely over 75 minutes.

Watching "Mad Foxes" is a truly remarkable and surreal experience. The fact that this DVD has some of the most wretched English dubbing this side of a Saturday afternoon UHF "Kung-Fu Theater" program only enhances the experience. It's also a stroke of genius/madness to have the stud action hero look and (with the English dubbing) sound like "Too Close for Comfort"'s Jm. J. Bullock.

While "Mad Foxes" is one of the best unintentionally humorous films ever made, it's not a safe, campy "bad" movie like "Plan 9 From Outer Space." It's unrated, but contains a lot of graphic violence and frontal nudity.

The DVD is bare bones, with the only extra being a trailer. However, I'm grateful someone had the audacity and insanity to put this out in the first place. Movies like this don't come along everyday, so grab this DVD before it disappears.
