With an amazingly tender and gentle performance by John Candy and a perfect portrayal of a protective mother by Maureen O'Hara, this movie is an appealing love story. The mother, the son and the girlfriend are all individually represented beautifully and all melded together in a most delightful movie.

Well, it's really extremely '80's in feel, but still a classic. If you liked Trains, Planes, and Automobiles, if you like John Candy, or if you can't stand your mother-in-law, this one is for you.

Only The Lonely is a good romantic comedy type movie that has a great cast that includes, John Candy, Ally Sheedy, Maureen O'Hara, Anthony Quinn and Milo O'Shea. The movie is about a Irish American cop who lives in Boston with his over bearing overly opinionated mother and he falls in love with a woman who is mother doesn't like. This is a cute movie and I'm glad that they finally have put it on DVD.
