Part conspiracy theory and part religious message, Left Behind (based on the first in a series of runaway bestsellers by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins) is a passable, occasionally compelling thriller that turns the rapture and the ascendance of the Antichrist into something resembling a Robert Ludlum espionage potboiler. The beginning, though, is pure Stephen King: as morose pilot Rayford Steele (Brad Johnson) steers his jet plane toward London, comely flight attendant Hattie Daniels (Chelsea Noble) informs him that a number of passengers have disappeared--at 37,000 feet, leaving their neatly pressed clothes behind. And they're not the only ones who've gone missing. The mass disappearances throw the world into chaos, and the sinisterly compelling Nicolae Carpathia (Gordon Currie), head of the U.N., selflessly steps in to help broker peace among the world's nations. But is he as good intentioned as he seems?
Turns out the appropriately named Mr. Carpathia is behind a plot to rule the world and control its food supply, and intrepid reporter Buck Williams (Kirk Cameron, better than you'd expect) is onto him--with a little help from some biblical prophecies. Suffering the problem that befalls most first installments in a series of books and movies, Left Behind busies itself with the task of introducing characters and setting up expository plot lines, and audiences may be frustrated by the lack of action--Rayford's somewhat labored crisis of faith takes up a good chunk of the film. Still, it's an intriguing premise that should satisfy fans of the novel and possibly pick up a few more converts along the way (be warned, though, this is a modestly budgeted film that looks more like a cable TV movie than the latest James Bond extravaganza). And, if like a fair number of the film's characters, you can't figure out that someone named "Nicolae Carpathia" is a bad guy, then, well, you need to bone up on your evil villains. --Mark Englehart

Arguably the most interesting and compelling feature in the Left Behind trilogy, Left Behind II: Tribulation Force finds the series' major characters--television journalist Buck Williams (Kirk Cameron), passenger jet captain Rayford Steele (Brad Johnson), his daughter Chloe (Janaya Stephens), and Pastor Bruce Barnes (Clarence Gilyard)--forming the core of a group dedicated to infiltrating and disrupting operations of the Anti-Christ, i.e., Nicolae Carpathia (a scary Gordon Currie), who has become leader of a world government. Meanwhile, humankind looks increasingly desolate and bleak, as the reality sinks in that hundreds of millions of people who suddenly vanished--including all the world's children--in the last film are not coming back. Veteran television director Bill Corcoran makes much of his scant resources to paint an apocalyptic vision, and when the film gets to indulge in some nifty effects (a pair of fire-breathing prophets--literally), the result is powerful. Drama, relationships, character development, and performances are quite smooth and should appeal to Christian and non-Christian viewers alike. --Tom Keogh
Third in the series, Left Behind: World at War finds the post-Rapture Earth an even bleaker place than in the previous movies. As the Antichrist himself, Nicolae Carpathia (Gordon Currie), uses his newfound powers as head of the world government to bring war and plague on every nation, the American president (Louis Gossett Jr.) teams with a Christian resistance fighter (Jessica Steen) to try to stop him. Meanwhile, series hero Buck Williams (Kirk Cameron) discovers that Carpathia's biological front in a coming apocalypse is particularly devious: Freshly published Bibles are carrying a deadly disease ravaging thousands--and may very likely claim Buck's new bride. Buck's father-in-law, pilot Rayford Steele (Brad Johnson), has problems of his own facing the not-inconsiderable temptations of former flight attendant Hattie Daniels (Chelsea Noble), now one of Carpathia's many lovers. Directed by Craig R. Baxley (Rose Red), Left Behind: World at War is particularly crisp and effective drama, even when the action stops, as it often does, for many of the principals to pray for guidance. Charles Martin Smith (The Untouchables), not seen often enough these days, has a brief but powerful part as the U.S. vice-president. --Tom Keogh

Great film for the whole family!!.......2007-06-28
This was a great film for the whole family - even my 10 year old loved it!
good movie for the budget.......2007-06-01
I like these movies. Great message and good, not great acting and the special effects need to desired. I wish Hooyweird would wake up and quit black balling conservative movies and release a state of the art movie, it would explode this trilogy would have made alot of $$ if they could've had a bigger budget.
Great Collection.......2007-05-22
I loved this collection. However, I was a little disappointed when I found it at a local retail store for $3 less than what I paid here. It was well worth it, nevertheless!
This is just bad.......2007-05-11
Bad acting, bad writing, bad directing and even worse theology combine to make the LEFT BEHIND series a genuinely atrocious experience. The films appear to have the budget of a made for cable quickie. I will never understand the appeal of this sort of nonsense. Perhaps if people took more time actually READING the bible and studying history instead of looking to this garbage for spiritual insight, we would be spared any more installments of this laughably bad extravaganza of lunacy.
Must See CD's.......2007-05-07
This series is incredible. Everyone should watch all of them. Certainly gives pause to reflect and wonder.

Description
In the prophesied world of the Book of Revelation, global icon and world leader Nicolae Carpathia (Gordon Currie - Left Behind) has finally done the unimaginable - he has managed to unite the world in peace - and bring an end to the bloodshed that has ruled the world since the beginning of time. American president, Gerald Fitzhugh (Academy Award winner Lou Gossett, Jr.- An Officer and a Gentleman- Best Supporting Actor 1981), has shared that dream, and has dedicated his Presidency to making sure that the world's most powerful nation didn't stand in the way of that dream. But when a failed assassination attempt opens his eyes to an underground world and a horrifying glimpse into a sinister conspiracy, Fitzhugh must come to terms with the agonizing truth - World War III is pounding at the door- and his dedication to the dream of peace has left America powerless to defend herself. With the help of investigative reporter Buck Williams (Kirk Cameron - Left Behind, TV's "Growing Pains") and his underground Tribulation Force, Fitzhugh battles against a ticking clock, insurmountable odds, and his own closed mind, to try to find a way to stop the death of millions of people, and perhaps the end of history itself.

Exactly what I wanted.......2007-05-14
I'm very pleased with the purchase I made. I bought a DVD and it was brand new unopened as advertised. It came in a timely manner, and was exactly as I expected.
It was great!!!.......2007-05-07
If you have seen the first two then you have to see this one it will leave you breath less!!!
The Big Let Down.......2007-02-20
I am a big fan of Cloud Ten Pictures. I have seen all of their movies and one of their documentaries. I liked all of them-except this one. I remember getting all excited about it. I remember crying becasue I thought the UPS truck wouldn't come to deliever it on the day the website said it would (but it did, just later than I thought it would.). I remember watching the trailer over and over again. I remember when it finally came, I was extermely eager to put it in.
But then it all changed. About fifteen minutes into the movie, it was already starting to get boring. However, as a loyal Cloud Ten Pictures fan, I forced myself to sit through the whole movie. I was VERY disappointed with it. It was very boring, and some parts just made no sense whatsoever. For instance, when Bruce is having that dream that Nicolae has the doctor's mask on, pulls it down, and says "You know who I am. We used to be good friends." What's up with that? It was just random, and made no sense.
Also, Nicolae is in this movie for fifteen minutes I'f guess at the most. The scenes with Nicolae in them are the only worthwhile scenes. The only reason I gave this film three stars is becasue of the noteworthy ending with Fitzuh and Nicolae.
If you are thinking about buying this movie, don't. It's boring and, at times, makes no sense. Try some of Clkoud Ten Pictures' other movies like the Apocalyp[se triology instead!
Why did they stray???.......2007-02-19
I enjoyed immensely the first two Left behind films, even with their deviations from the books, however with this third one something seems to have changed. The writing just isn't as good, sure there are great moments in the film, but there were far to many just plain cheesy events for my taste. The message is still excellent as aways, and the visual effects are quite good, but the script seems to have gone a little down hill.
There's No Time To Change Your Mind..........2007-01-16
The 1st 2 flicks have come on gone...World at War gets LEFT BEHIND(pun intended). I hoped I'd never see the day when I'd have to give an attempted prophecy movie thumbs down, but here we have it. To keep it short and sweet, many of the same characters are present from the 1st 2 films(which were true to the book), however, this poses a great disappointment for fans expecting to see an adaptation of book 3, as Cloud 10 veers away from the continuum of the book series. It's a story within itself and the story seems to be thrown together. Definately not a keeper...stick to the first 2 and then add The Moment After and SIX:The Mark Unleashed to your collection instead.

What has happened to Hebrew in this film?.......2007-06-29
Just before Buck and Rabbi Ben-Yehuda cross over to the sealed teritory of the Western Wall in Jerusalem, we get a glimpse at a big red warning sign saying in English "Do not cross. Violators will be shot." Above the warning in English we get also what seems to be the Hebrew translation to that same warning. However, this is not the case. Someone has decided to either play a prank or just got it all wrong. The letters are in Hebrew but the words mean nothing except for phonetically copy the warning in English backwards. What's wrong? Not enough Jews in NY to translate it correctly? Not funny, just sick.
What a movie!!!.......2007-05-07
If you enjoyed the first one you will enjoy this one too!!
Good movie.......2007-02-06
Good movie, but the voice track was off and that has always been a pet peeve of mine.
LEFT BEHIND II - TRIBULATION FORCE.......2007-01-19
THIS IS ANOTHER OF THE SERIES WHICH HAS GREAT ACTORS AND IS AN AWESOME AN EXCITING SEQUAL WHICH KEEPS YOU GUESSING ALL THROUGHOUT THE MOVIE!
The Christian Murderers are at it again.......2006-12-13
I have heard that this story condones killing anyone that does not want to be converted to Christianity, or at least the video game 'Left Behind' does. This kind of stuff is not Christianity. This is not what Jesus did to those that were not interested in him 'converting' them- he forgave everyone and loved everyone unconditionally.

Beyond Belief.......2007-06-03
I inadvertently rented this one and it readily became apparent that there's a whole segment of the population that is so fundamentally (excuse the pun) divorced from reality as I perceive it that there may never be any way of breaching that schism. The mind set that lead to the creation of this movie and for which this movie was created is one dimensional, simplistic, and thus dangerous. I like the idea of media which doesn't take the low road by using gratutitous sex and violence to try to keep people's attention. Nevertheless, this movie and its ilk are better left undone.
end of times.......2007-05-13
Cant use words for this movie and the rest of them they are great movies to watch and makes you think where you really are in life its one of my favorite movies and of course being a fan of the books makes me wanna see more of these movies made soon
Unimpressive and Lacks the Meaning of the Books.......2007-05-09
Even though I do not take what the Left Behind books are about seriously, at least I new what the general message was. The movie watered down the main points of the book, and was done so poorly it was shocking that the authors would allow this film to come out.
Unless you are totally enthralled with the Left Behind series and Kirk Cameron, then you are better off sticking to the books. If you want something that really will challenge your faith, watch Jesus Camp
Every person should have this movie in there home!!.......2007-05-07
A great movie the whole family will love!!
Banal, Pathetic, Out of Touch.......2007-01-31
I have always had a morbid fascination with that segment of the population that believes that the Bible is the only book one has to read, and that great literature consists entirely of the Left Behind series. I bought this movie to get a sense of this group.
Banal is the kindest word I can find for this tripe. Third rate actors, low-rent science fiction backdrops, and completely out of touch with reality. The movie opens with the Israeli agricultural "miracle." What it does not tell the audience is that Israel would be a dead state if it were not for the 20% of the Israeli government's budget funded by US taxpayers through the US Government's very unwise investment in this apartheid regime (see Jimmy Carter's new book) and if it were not for the blatant Israeli underground pipes that are literally looting the Arab aquifers at long range and from way beneath the earth. Israeli agriculture is not a miracle, it is a travesty--it consumes 50% of all the water used in Israel, and produces less than 5% of the Gross Domestic Product.
The movie goes downhill from there. Just to place it in a proper religous movie context, if the "Ten Commandments" was a perfect 10, this movie is no more than a 1 and certainly not even close to a 2.

--Tom Keogh
