As David (Alan Rickman) and Alexis Weinberg (Polly Walker) race through a torrential rainstorm to get the last ferry to their private island, they catch sight of an injured young man (Norman Reedus) at the side of the road. The mysterious stranger reluctantly accepts their help and by morning the incident is virtually forgotten, until a series of coincidences leads him back into their lives and into their home. 1 out of 5 stars Even rich New Englanders don't sound this British!.......2007-06-30

No wonder over half the reviewers here seem to think this film is set in Britain. It isn't; it is set in Maine, though you would never guess from Polly Walker's very British accent. Old money Bostonians certainly don't sound that British. Many reviewers have talked about Rickman's unconvincing accent, but at least he attempted an accent. Miss Walker should have tried as well.

Accents aside, this film is just dreadfully boring. It is very nearly the first act of Deathtrap with all the wit and style drained away.

I admit I only watched it to see Alan Rickman. If that is your objective, go for it. You'll love him.

5 out of 5 stars mushrooms???.......2007-06-18

wow!!what a movie!!!Norman Reedus was fantastic.I cant believe i hadnt seen this one sooner!!This one,everyone should own.
(But the ending sure throwed me for a loop!!)

3 out of 5 stars twisted thriller.......2007-05-27

If you are a Alan Rickman fan and you like thrillers you might enjoy this. The ending was a surprize and leaves you wondering.

5 out of 5 stars Very interesting!!!.......2006-10-22

I really liked this movie. It was very interesting and intriguing to me. It kept me watching it from start to finish. It has me guessing all the way through this movie as to what is going to happen next.

"spoiler"
This movie really reminded me of the movie Death Trap years ago. It seems like it is England's version of it.

4 out of 5 stars A dark suspenseful thriller........2006-04-20

First of all, I watched this mainly to see Alan Rickman. When I started watching the film, I have to admit, I almost didn't care for it. But as the story unfolded, so did the clues. This is a film that you would have to watch with NO DISTRACTIONS, because everything is a clue-from the husband demanding his wife help watch the road, the mushrooms, the husband's coffee (how did the drifter know how he took his coffee??), the drifter asking Alexis to write his thoughts for him and then sign it, etc. I then watched it with the commentary by Adam Coleman Howard, and gained more during his commentary than I have with other director's commentaries. I then watched the third time and found that I enjoyed the film. I feel that all the actors did a great job with these roles.
Speaking as a Rickman fan, I was totally shocked at the ending and during the second and third viewing I had to close my eyes after he goes up the hill from skinny dipping. It takes enormous talent for an actor to pull that scene off, but I found I still can't watch it.
If you are a Rickman fan as I am, do not hesitate about buying this DVD, but anyone else may want to rent it first.
