Description
Multiple Academy Award Winners Robert De Niro and Meryl Streep are together again for the first time since The Deer Hunter. In Falling In Love they play Frank Raftis and Molly Gilmore, two everyday people who meet first by chance, and later by choice. There's just one thing standing between Frank and Molly's intense, newfound love-both are already married. It's a genuine modern dilemma, and De Niro, Streep and a fine supporting cast bring the story to life with flair and sensitivity.

5 out of 5 stars A true gem that deserves more recognition.......2007-05-08

Even after all these years, this remains one of my favorite love stories. It is a different kind of love story though..the two main protagonists played by Robert de Niro and Meryl Streep are married to other people, yet a chance encounter leads to another meeting, and eventually a friendship develops...this later moves on to something more deep, an attraction and love that transcends everything else. Hollywood doesn't make movies like this anymore...there is no gratutious sex or foul language, just a slow simmering attraction that grows from strength to strength. The two leads are good people who don't really want to hurt their respective spouses, and so their moral dilemma...how do they realise their true feelings for each other whilst not hurting their spouses? Adultery is such a delicate subject, yet is handled here with gentleness and finesse. De Niro & Streep give exacting performances, with tremendous depth and insight into the psyche of a pair of 'lovers' who desire to be with each other yet also want to remain faithful to their marriage vows. A classic love story & definitely a keeper!

5 out of 5 stars Beautifully romantic.......2007-01-09

This is a lovely story about courtly love. It is quite realistic and both DeNiro and Streep are perfectly cast - in fact, DeNiro says this is his favorite role, because it was a romantic story with Streep. The DVD is in great shape, and it came quickly. Thank you!

3 out of 5 stars There are things in life that are inevitable, and we are powerless to control them..........2006-12-30

Love is more than an emotion... It's above all, the substance of our being, the gift of oneself...

We all want to fall in love... We all want to be caught up out of our ordinary life... Maybe because it is the only true adventure, maybe because that experience makes us feel completely alive... It may only last a moment, an hour, an afternoon, but that doesn't diminish its value, because we are left with memories that we treasure for the rest of our lives...

Here, Merryl Streep and DeNiro are the kind of people who are ready to take action on an opportunity... Following a chance meeting in a bookshop, pre-Xmas, the two central characters find themselves inexplicably drawn to each other... But both are married... She has a husband, he has a wife and two lovely kids...

Both are meant to be together but they are inexperienced, uptight... And neither really knows what to do with his fear, shyness, hesitation, and confusion... On this thread of plot hangs a nice romantic film where two super stars combined their talent to conquer a dry script...

Director Ulu Grosbard makes sure there are plenty of subway stations, trains, hot dogs, coffee, driving rainstorm, two adjacent pay phones, walks through the streets, swelling music, and much more for the lovers to get romantic over... His motion picture is strictly traditional, which makes his sensitive film something fresh and entertaining...

4 out of 5 stars The romance in this film is understanding and very persuasive........2006-12-09

"Falling In Love" deserve it's fair share of attention and fame. If you are into complete 100% realism, then you would have a bone to pick with this film. I mean true love... if you believe in love at first sight; you could probably believe that two strangers' chance meeting could be the beginning of something beautiful. Or if hardened by cynicism, you'd probably say, nay it'd never happen --it's just boredom in life's routine. But one thing that can't be ignored is the acting. Any two actors might've played Frank and Molly in this low-keyed way (and been as good), but it is the fact it's De Niro and Streep together (reunited from "The Deer Hunter") that keeps the picture watch able. The minimal mundane dialogue and what they did with the material was a moving portrayal in this film.

Ms. Streep portrays Molly Gillmore, a doctor's wife and commercial artist; and De Niro, Frank Raftis, a construction foreman, husband and father of two young boys. Fate brings the two together on a Metro North commuter train from Westchester County into Manhattan, in New York. Molly and Frank are good, moral suburbanites who just happen to be "Falling In Love," all the time struggling to remain loyal to their respective families.

Maryl Streep, to me mainly, has done her part on this film. She is not only natural and luminous, but you even don't think that she's acting! She's lived this whole life through! The way she's hesitating whether she should stop the affair with a married man (DeNiro) or just let it all be. The way she struggles herself and this new feeling that doesn't allow her to lead her normal life anymore is believable as well. You won't doubt a minute that she's feeling all this. As for De Niro even though he's an actor he always embodies such charisma and sex appeal, he's able to carry himself as such a regular simple man-all that there is to him is that he is in love with a married woman other than his wife.

I also liked how the film does not try to justify adultery at the same time. There are some nice nostalgia vis-a-vis sumptuous New York winter bustle scenes of Grand Central Station, Rizzoli's on Fifth Ave, hot dog vendors, high-eighties hair and clothing fashions. The score by Dave Grusin (Mountain Dance) completed this movie and is just amazing till this day. "Falling In Love" is a rather sweet but serious film that paints a very realistic portrait of marriage and infidelity. If you are a fan of either actor, this is a must-see.

The big selling point of this film is spelled out immediately in the credits: "And introducing Michelle Pfeiffer as Sue Wellington." It also gives one pause to consider that Pfeiffer's career may have never evolved had she not had a passing resemblance to a young Susannah York. York, who aided, abetted, and produced this clunker, plays Sue Lewis, wife of Harry Lewis. Harry (Elliott Gould) is a businessman living in the past. The past he's reliving is the New York of 1944, where he and his buddies conspired to get him set up with the best-looking girl in the boroughs, Sue Wellington. It's only a slight moment of prophecy, but the first time Pfeiffer appears on screen she has a halo around her head. The rest is a loping Bowery Boys comedy that tries to turn serious at the end but just ends up the epitome of bathos. The best reason to get this is to fall in love again with the girl who would be Catwoman. --Keith Simanton

1 out of 5 stars Don't waste your time and money on this movie.......2007-05-04

The story is bad, the film quality is bad and if you are buying this movie to see a young David Caruso you will be wasting your time and money, he does not have any lines and is only seen once or twice.

1 out of 5 stars DON'T BOTHER!!!.......2007-03-06

I got this DVD for $1.99 and I still feel ripped off. The quality of the movie was terrible, the story line was stupid, and the acting was just fair. Do not waste your time on this poor movie. Even though there are some stars in it in their younger days (Eloitt Gould, Michelle Piefer, David Caruso), it does not make up for the poor content of the movie. Cheaply made---DON'T BOTHER!!!

1 out of 5 stars Dont get fooled by the title and the name.......2002-04-11

this is one of the 3 worst movies I have ever seen.

Bad storry, bad quality of the DVD,

Just dont get it. Beleve me. Thats why it is under 10 bucks but under 2 bucks would still be a wast of money and time.

5 out of 5 stars Great if you want too..........2001-01-18

take a nap. This movie put me to sleep. even the conversations were boring. robotic and choreagraphed. Weak story and ending. Do something productive instead of watching this movie.

      Product Description

Not your usual fishing video! A Love Affair with Angling explores and shares the deep love that anglers have for fishing, including the folklore, philosophy and nobility of angling, motivations, secrets, tips, techniques, and the mystique of waters. Are anglers nuts? Or is their quest a noble one? Or both? And is there a danger of evolving technology transforming fishing into a NASCAR kind of sport? The first DVD in a new series, it is a unique companion to Dr. Harold Lyons popular book, Angling in the Smile of the Great Spirit. Many fishing topics -- the use of technology, best lures, where and when to fish -- are examined ... from a psychological, philosophical, and humorous, as well as a technical viewpoint. In editing this material the authors, Dr. Lyon and his talented and humorous foil, Dr. Giuliano, have creatively sought to portray the humorous and whimsical side of angling. Little-known secrets of angling success are included, ones which many of the Master Anglers have revealed only in their interaction with the authors. A "must have" for any angler or their family and friends who fail to understand them!

With a high salary and a beautiful girlfriend, one would expect Osamu to be the envy of all around him. Yet there is something missing in his life. On the complete other end of the spectrum, 25 year old Ota Miyuki (Murakami Tomoko) works part-time at a Ramen restaurant while trying to fulfill her dreams of becoming an actress. Though her parents may have named her Miyuki with the intentions of her being beautiful and happy, the reality is she is ugly. Ugly enough for her parents to worry over her future. Miyuki herself, though she hates it, is also quite aware of this fact. This is where Osamu and Miyuki meet. Shocked by Miyuki's pure and fresh personality, he is drawn to her, but...
