Garry Marshall's 1988 drama about a 30-year friendship between two women, one wealthy (Barbara Hershey) and the other (Bette Midler) seeking her fortune in show business, is well written (based on the novel by Iris Rainer Dart) and nicely textured in its contrast between the characters' separate destinies. When Hershey becomes ill with cancer, the film takes a predictably sentimental course, yet Marshall brings out the best in both actresses and catches some very fine drama. I absolutely love this movie!!!! It is one of a few movies that I can watch over and over and over and over again, and never get tired of it. Both Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey gave magnificent performances, portraying what a true, loving friendship is all about. I love the scene when CC tells Hillary she ended their friendship and didn't even tell her. I know exactly how that feels (RC). And, the producers were point on in picking Mayim Bialik to play the young CC, she was perfect match. I get misty everytime, at the same scenes. Wonderful acting of a wonderful story!!

Love this movie. Very emotional. I owned it on VHS and eventually I played it so often I ended up replacing it on DVD. I always thought Bette Midler had a great voice, but the story very much outwayed any singing. I cry a little everytime I watch it. It will always be a part of my movie collection.

Work from home and just got this video to give me something to look at besides a blank plasma. The colors and scenes are really great. The video automatically shows various ocean/sands scenes for a few minutes each and then moves to the next scene (not really looping). The sound quality is very good - sounds like the ocean - actually peaceful - not annoying. I like this one and it seems whenever I look up from typing I've got a new scene to look at ... definitely a keeper.

I enjoyed the dvd and think it will be cool to have in summer (purchased in winter). If it was in HD it would be incredible, but on my 50" screen it is low resolution, so its not as good as it could be. In HD it would be like looking out the window, but because it isn't, it isn't.

We purchased this DVD to help calm and relax my Grandmother, who has Alzheimer's Disease. She is easily upset by the TV or music, but these DVDs are perfect. She has always loved nature and it is really nice for her to feel like she is at the beach and hear the waves.

had actually gotten an earlier version of this relaxation series; hawaian vacations. This title is a very big leap i think in terms of its picture and sound quality. I guess H-DEF kicked in! it defnitely now can comptete with BORA BORA. Its amazing!

We thoroughly enjoyed this video. It was so captivating that we could not take our eyes off of it. It actually lulled my daughter to sleep as well. I will order more from this maker. The waters were crystal clear and the sun sets were beautiful. Buy IT!!

Wow! This is truly a great use of HD video. It feels like you're on the beach, under the giant waterfalls and in the floral jungles of Hawaii. The sound is great too. Sure beats the long and expensive flight for that great Aloha feeling. highly recommended.

I bought this DVD along with Bora Bora, A Day in Paradise. If you are looking for something relaxing this is it. I was on the verge of emotional catastrophe before I bought these two DVDs, from too much TV, too much music, too much distressing noise and going for too long without a vacation (a budget issue). Sometime ago I went in search of some relaxation help. I found some budget DVDs by David Fortney. I own at least 6 of them, Majestic National Parks, Quiet Moods (very relaxing if you mute the music), Earth Flight, Desert Flight, Reflections (my favorite) and Visions of Light. These are great if you just want something awesome to look at, but honestly some of them put me on edge when I'd watch them in the evening. There is a lot of timelapsed photography, fast moving clouds, etc. Virgin Islands is totally different, there are just steady restful shots of some of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. Virgin Gorda is my favorite as the ocean gently laps at the shore and the water is so crystal clear that you just want to sit down and let it wash over you. The scenes are simple and relaxing and there is no music, narration or any other intrusive noises to disturb your experience. There are subtitles at the bottom of the scene when it changes but it is only there for a few seconds. I understand that these have been removed on newer versions of other Virtual Vacations.

Bora, Bora is the same, just quiet waves and waterfalls and the faint sounds of birds. The scenery in Bora Bora is beautiful as well and oh yes there is a faint thunder storm but it isn't disturbing. There are no subtitles to disturb your relaxation experience and the only complaint I have is that it isn't long enough. With these you can fall asleep without any problem. My sister is a Dental Assistant and her employer uses these in her practice. Her patients love them. If you can't relax after 15 minutes of one of these, then you are defintitely a type A personality. Voevodsky says he is thinking about doing one called Nature Walks. I hope he does. I've played these DVDs nearly everyday since I purchased them. I'm now finding that I need some different scenery so I don't habituate. I've searched around but haven't found any that don't include music or some narration. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. I need them. Thanks.

Perfect for former jet-setters.......2004-11-25

These are wonderful videos for any former jet-setter, now stuck at home with family. You can put on a DVD and remember that vacations won't always be visits with the family! It's a half hour vacation.

They are also wonderful for meditators who don't have time to sit. Having these beautiful images and sounds in the background during the day makes any room an instant zen retreat. The videos even calm my twins down after a hectic day!

Advantages of The Virgin Islands Beaches.......2004-07-17

I found this dvd as well as Bahamas Beaches a wonderful way to rest and relax. They made me feel like I was sitting on the waters edge. My husband who is an alzheimer patient found it very soothing and calming. It has become a special time in the day for him to just relax. I urge anyone to purchase these two DVD's - sit back and relax - and put yourself right there. If you can't get to these two places - this is the next best thing. I LOOOOVE this video. The quality of the images and the sound is simply amazing. I really feel like I am in the Virgin Islands when I watch it! I use it while I am walking on my treadmill and pretend I am walking on the beach. It makes my boring treadmill walk seem like paradise. I feel like I have stumbled onto a secret that the general public has not yet caught up to. These videos are truly "virtual vacations." So far, Virgin Island Beaches is my favorite! You won't be sorry!

Elegant Simplicity.......2004-06-27

Greg Voevodsky has delivered treasures (buried chests of gold doubloons?) in his series of Virtual Vacations. I'd searched in vain for faithful recordings of nature at her best until I encountered his work. VIRGIN ISLANDS contains no Muzac or classical or New Age background music to 'help'. Like all the other offerings, it is pristine in its desire to give you a set of well-chosen examples of why people rave about these locations. What you get is long still shots of white sand beaches merging with aquamarine waters overhung by palms and other lush tropical vegetation, and with it just the ambient sound of nature in that place. Being too long between real vacations, I was mesmerized by the languid waves and soothing sun. I felt like I could step through the screen and be there.The sense of immediacy and tangibility is amazing, like the filmaker's disciplined restraint. Valium sales will plummet! You only need buy Virtual Vacations once, and they are totally side effect free.

I bought this DVD along with another as part of an anniversary day. I received and reviewed the DVD with pleasure. The folks that made the DVD did a great job of picking unoccupied beaches and nice locations. Both video quality and sound were excellent. Looks great on a big screen! My only complaint is that they didn't spend longer at each beach, but they did cover every island. Worth the money.

Paradise on command.......2005-05-23

I came across this item by accident, bought it, and think it is one of the best investments I've ever made. This guy is a genius. If this DVD could be marketed in pill form, we'd all be stress-free. If you love Florida, and more specifically, its beaches, you MUST buy this DVD. I would never have believed that watching something on television could be this relaxing, but I do now. The scenes are nothing short of breathtaking, and the colour is just amazing. The only sounds are of the waves...no tinkling music or faux bird calls. You have the option of watching the beaches with or without the subtitles as the locations change, so if you see a scene and think you must go on your next trip south, you can see what beach the segment was shot at. Bahia Honda, here I come! To sum it up in a nutshell, this DVD is a must-buy for beach lovers, especially to 'tide' you over until your next visit.

Super Nature.......2005-01-18

'Hypnotic' is the word that comes to mind. I think Mr.Voevodsky creates the best 'feel-good' videos one can find. In simple, well-chosen still shots, he shows us the best beach-beauty Florida has to offer (and that is quite a lot). Shimmering white sand and sapphire sky frame passing catamarans and graceful shore birds busily bobbing for dinner in the gently surging surf. Only natural sounds for background and sunsets that electrify even as they soothe. No sand fleas. No humidity. No sunscreen required. I challenge anyone to stay tense after the first ten minutes of this work of art.

Listening to the natural sounds of the surf and sea birds with the stunning video, you get the feeling you are there...

No question this DVD will wash the stress away and put you in the remote beach zone. The images and sounds so vivid that you will be relaxing on the beach in no time and can almost feel the warm ocean waves lapping at your toes.

Like to get away to the beach but can't, start up this DVD with a rum punch and your on the beach.

Highly recommended and cannot say enough.

Florida Beaches .......2004-12-17

If you love Florida you will love this dvd.It takes you on the beaches of Jacksonville,Keywest,Panama City and other places in Florida.Florida Beaches features some of everything gulls,boats,lighthouses and there is even a rainbow shown on one of the days.The sailboats and lighthouses are on day 5 On Panama City Beach and Day 6 on Jacksonville.The wave action is mostley the lapping kind although it seems just a little bigger on Panama City and Jacksonville.The video is sharp on this disc.The beaches of Florida look good.You can really see the blues come out in Panama City's beaches(ocean)and the whites of the waves look good.The sunsets are fabulous.Each day has a beautiful sunset.On some shots the water looks orange due to the sunset reflection.My favorites are Jacksonville and Panama City Beach but I like all of them.Make sure you go into the menu and cut on the beach subtitles it will tell you what island you are on of Jacksonville,Clearwater etc.Just like with the other waves vacation dvds this is just nature sounds no music accompinies it.This is the next best thing to being in Florida itself.I recommend the other waves vaction dvds to go with this one the Caribbean,California and Hawaiia ones.I hope there will be others done in the future.

Soothing. And a great bargain........2007-01-03

This two sided DVD with both Hawaii and Californian Zen is a great bargain with double the amount of soothing video for the regular price of one DVD.

The producer/distributor has indeed improved this series by removing all promotional audio. All you get is the soothing sound of the waves, wind and birds.

I'm not sure if there's really that much difference between Hawaii Zen and Hawaii Waves. Both seemed to have great visual imagery. Check the links provided by the distributor to see which one you'll prefer.

The only lacking footage on Hawaii Zen is the first "day" which shows a placid waterfront with rather boring greenery and rocks. It's really lacking in color and beauty and it's puzzling why they included it when the other "days" are clearly much better in quality. Other than that, however, no complaints. (Again, see links and promo photos provided by the DVD distributor to see what I mean.)

I purchased this from the distributor (listed on the "Used/Like New" listing page) instead of Amazon and they were super fast with the delivery and their price was a little bit cheaper. Would probably buy from them again.

If you are weary of conflict and violence and all the negativity
the media throws at you. If just want to be away. If you love
the sea. The Best Bahamas Beaches is the therapy you seek.
For me, it is the runaway best video experience in 60 years of viewing.

Multiple uses for this great DVD!.......2005-01-27

The DVD is great. Beautiful beach scenery and minimal graphics. Perfect for setting the mood in your home when you need to relax.

I actually bought the DVD because I'm in a Jimmy Buffett cover band. ( www.cedarreeferband.com ) One bar we play at has a huge screen TV on stage behind where I put my drums. We turn it off when we play but I figured there's gotta be something better than playing in front of a big blank screen. Much of Buffett's music is about the beach, the vacation mindset, and the distant locations that many of us long for. This DVD is the perfect backdrop for the music and vibe we put out during our performances. It's gorgeous, yet it's not busy so it isn't distracting. The creative uses for this beautiful DVD are only limited by your own imagination!

I love coming home from work and putting in this DVD. It helps me wind down and get rid of all of the stress of the day. The images are so beautiful and clear, it reminds me the vacation I took in the Bahamas. What a wonderful way to enjoy an evening at home!

The Best Bahama Beaches.......2004-04-18

Another great wave virtual vacation dvd this one features the bahamas.This dvd looks similar to Caribbean Beaches with lapping waves but the islands look a little different.My favorite scene is the thunderstorm which is on Day 2 Shot 4 and 5.If you look carefully on shot 4 you will see a flash of lightning over the ocean overlooking the dark thundercloud.This is sheet lightning(cloud to cloud)you then hear several claps of thunder over the ocean shot 5.Interestly the waves don't seem to get bigger as the storm moves in they continue lapping.Another one of my favorite scenes is the lighthouse on Day 5 shot 3 and 4 with ocean views in the forground and I love many of the ocean views on this dvd as well.The waves are mostely lapping but occasionally they are so calm you get quiter wavelets.The picture is crisp similar to the caribbean beaches dvd it really brings out the blues and greens of the waves and the transistions from day to day are very quick.Also each day ends with a beautiful sunset.Make sure you turn on the beach subtitles to see were you are on Abaco,Eleuthera and New Providence.Just go to the beach subtitles in the menu or cut on subtitles on your remote.Now you can see the Bahamas when you want too.The Virgin Islands one is now available too.I highly recommend the Bahamas Beaches.

The Best Bahama Beaches.......2004-03-28

Here is another great waves virtual vacation series of the Bahamas.This one will even include a thunderstorm on the beach a first for this series.It will also include 2 lighthouses and lapping waves.I will write a more thural review when I get it.Look for the best virgin island beaches in April which will have diving pelicans and Caribbean Daydreams in May.Hopefully Florida Beaches will be out by July.
