This epic 10-hour miniseries from the Emmy-winning writer of Gulliver's Travels was a ratings bust on television, but on video and DVD, where it can be enjoyed at one's leisure, it has a better chance to cast its magical spell. Kimberly Williams has never been more enchanting than as Virginia, a waitress who still lives with her janitor father (John Larroquette) and yearns for something exciting to happen to her. Her wish comes true when she and her father are transported from New York City into a dimension that, with apologies to Rod Serling, can only be called the Fairy Tale Zone; nine kingdoms populated by characters from fairy tales of yore. They team up with a dog who's really a prince--Wendell, grandson of Snow White--changed into canine form by the evil Queen (Dianne Wiest), who plots to usurp Wendell's throne. Father, daughter, and his royal dogness are relentlessly pursued through the nine kingdoms by the Troll King (Ed O'Neill) and his three bumbling and horrible children, and the conflicted Wolf (Scott Cohen), who is allied with the Queen but, with the aid of some Oprah-esque self-help books, tames his inner beast and falls in love with Virginia. The 10th Kingdom is a special effects extravaganza. There is indeed, as one character marvels, magic to behold here. But despite the Hallmark brand name and the presence of a grown-up Snow White (Camryn Manheim) and Cinderella (Ann-Margret), bewitched animals, magic mirrors, and trolls, this is not kid's stuff. It can get scary, surprisingly violent, and quite intense; you know, just like real fairy tales. --Donald Liebenson

long but worth watching........2007-06-27
Funny. Most of the fairy tales are infused in one movie. I like the part of the werewolf being so in love with the girl. Colorful props and sceneries. My children like it and I like it too. Fantastic.
Silly but fun........2007-06-18
I can't say this is the best mini-series I've ever seen, but it is one that I keep watching. If you can get past the ridiculous trolls and the pure silliness that is this world they have fallen into, you will have a great time.
The story is intricate and the characters are developed well. The only truly great character here is Wolf (Scott Cohen), but you just can't help but root for Kimberly Williams and John Larroquette's characters as they trod through this crazy world as one absurd thing after another befalls them. I thought it was clever how they introduced so many fairy stories into one big plot.
The middle of the story is the best part when the trolls aren't around, but knowing that the story is supposed to be a little silly and even makes fun of itself from time to time, usually through the eyes of John Larroquette's character, it's all just a fun 7 hours. Now I for one take about 4 to 5 sittings to get through this because a little bit goes a long way, but I've watched it at least 4 times and it hasn't gotten old yet.
Overall fun story if you can get passed the silliness.
Wonderful.......2007-06-17
This is the best movie ie seen in a long time i watch it all the time! If you liked snow white sinder rella and all thoses movies when you were a kid or now then you will like this storie abput what happened after happly ever after. You will also meet all new characters and a whole new storie. This movie is funny, fun, and exciting! Buy or rent this movie you'll love it!
Wonderful, rollicking tale.......2007-06-14
I loved this as a miniseries. I bought the DVDs as soon as they came out, and recently bought the series for a mother's day gift for my mom, who couldn't believe she'd never heard of it.
This wonderful tale is full of joy from moment the opening credits start (and that should be a little video on it's own).
The sort version is: Fairy tales run amok. A star-studded cast, some hilarious twists and some really fun writing make the 9 hours WAY too short.
If you like light-hearted fantasy and are unsure about this, DON'T BE. The whole family can enjoy this.
Fun Fantasy Movie.......2007-06-12
I think this movie is fun and creative. The story is well-crafted and keeps your attention. However, it is often cheesy and has some bad acting. Despite that, I would highly recommend the movie!

Jurassic Park
Steven Spielberg's 1993 mega-hit rivals Jaws as the most intense and frightening film he'd ever made prior to Schindler's List, but it was also among his weakest stories. Based on Michael Crichton's novel about an island amusement park populated by cloned dinosaurs, the film works best as a thrill ride with none of the interesting human dynamics of Spielberg's Jaws. That lapse proves unfortunate, but there's no shortage of raw terror as a rampaging T-rex and nasty raptors try to make fast food out of the cast. The effects are still astonishing (despite the fact that the computer-generated technology has since been improved upon) and at times primeval, such as the sight of a herd of whatever-they-are scampering through a valley. --Tom Keogh
The Lost World - Jurassic Park
In the low tradition of knockoff horror flicks best seen (or not seen) on a drive-in movie screen, Steven Spielberg's sequel to Jurassic Park is a poorly conceived, ill-organized film that lacks story and logic. Screenwriter David Koepp strings along a number of loose ideas while Jeff Goldblum returns as Ian Malcolm, the quirky chaos theoretician who now reluctantly agrees to go to another island where cloned dinosaurs are roaming freely. Along with his girlfriend (Julianne Moore) and daughter, Malcolm has to deal with hunters, environmentalists, and corporate swine who stupidly bring back a big dino to Southern California, where it runs amok, of course. Spielberg doesn't seem to care that the pieces of this project don't add up to a real movie, so he hams it up with big, scary moments (with none of the artfulness of those in Jurassic Park) and smart-aleck visual gags (a yapping dog in a suburb mysteriously disappears when a hungry T-rex stomps by). A complete bust.--Tom Keogh
Jurassic Park III
Surpassing expectations to qualify as an above-average sequel, Jurassic Park III is nothing more or less than a satisfying popcorn adventure. A little cheesier than the first two Jurassic blockbusters, it's a big B movie with big B-list stars (including Laura Dern, briefly reprising her Jurassic Park role), and eight years of advancing computer-generated-image technology give it a sharp edge over its predecessors. While adopting the jungle spirit of King Kong, the movie refines Michael Crichton's original premise, and its dinosaurs are even more realistic, their behavior more detailed, and their variety--including flying pteranodons and a new villain, the spinosaurus--more dazzling and threatening than ever. These advancements justify the sequel, and its contrived plot is just clever enough to span 90 minutes without wearing out its welcome.
Posing as wealthy tourists, an adventurous couple (William H. Macy, Téa Leoni) convince paleontologist Alan Grant (Sam Neill) and his protégé (Allesandro Nivola) to act as tour guides on a flyover trip to Isla Sorna, the ill-fated "Site B" where all hell broke loose in The Lost World: Jurassic Park. In truth, they're on a search-and-rescue mission to find their missing son (Trevor Morgan), and their plane crash is just the first of several enjoyably suspenseful sequences. Director Joe Johnston (October Sky) embraces the formulaic plot as a series of atmospheric set pieces, placing new and familiar dinosaurs in misty rainforests, fiery lakes, and mysterious valleys, turning JP3 into a thrill ride with impressive highlights (including a T. rex versus spinosaurus smack-down), adequate doses of wry humor (from the cowriters of Election), and an upbeat ending that's corny but appropriate, proving that the symptoms of sequelitis needn't be fatal. --Jeff Shannon

Good deal.......2007-06-27
Great fun to watch again these 3 great movies with my daughter. Very good presentation for a good price. Great value.
Beautiful package.......2007-06-27
Jurassic Park is a great movie, no doubt about it. And this package is also great... It's very well made, and opens up revealing beautiful images.
The second movie (The Lost World) is boring and it doesn't get near the first.
Jurassic Park III is another great one... It isn't better than the first, but it's way better than the second.
And the many extras that comes within the discs are good too.
I think that the only fault of this box set is the lack of english subtitles. There's english closed captions only.
Dinosaur lovers unite!.......2007-06-15
When the first Jurassic Park movie came out I fell in love with the brachiosaur "Welcome to Jurassic Park" scene and have been hooked ever since. To have the three movies in a set and the additional footage is just a pleasure. True the plot of the second movie (The Lost World) is not in the same league with that first vision, but the dinosaurs are so great that it is still fun. The third movie, however, is much closer to the first in quality and almost equally entertaining, thanks in part to the acting skills of William H. Macy.
It is the dinosaurs, however, that star in this trilogy. It is amazing to me how the well the special efffects have held up! Definitely worth the cost of the DVDs. Dinosaur lovers unite and ENJOY!
THRILL RIDES GALORE !!!.......2007-06-13
I have been a nut for Dinosaur movies since I was a kid and they were shown on a square screen in black & white in theatres. "The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms" was the greatest of its time and now here I get to see these three magnificant movies in my living room ! I saw these at the theater and I have to brag that my sourround is better ! The movies are sharp, colorful and the sound is wonderful!!! Dinos tramping all over the place !!! Oh by the way the EXTRAS are superb!! I love seeing these guys loving what they are doing and it shows in the movies! Its amazing how they make this stuff work! What a great job!!! Delightful, and entertaining fantasy fun for the kid in all of us!!! GET THE POPCORN!!!!

Description
A young girl (Jodelle Ferland) lives in a terrifying and gruesome world. When her father (Jeff Bridges) takes her away to a rural farmhouse, she finds herself in a bizarre fantasy world where only her dolls' heads keep her company. When she meets a mentally damaged man and a tall ghost-like woman, the line between her imagination and reality quickly disappears. Tideland is a spine-chilling tale from the visionary mind of acclaimed director Terry Gilliam.
Customer Reviews:
not what I expected.......2007-06-22
If you're looking for another Pan's Labyrinth, you're looking in the wrong place. The plot seemed very Pan-ish to me and the fact that Gilliam directed it made it a no brainer. How wrong I was.
Firstly the terrible fake southern accents killed me, the acting wasn't horrible but the way they talked was. I really don't understand why all the characters except for Dickens talked how they did. Incidentally the character Dickens was done very well, but he was the only character I could remotely stand.
The plot itself is rather dull. There are some weird situations, but nothing that I was really drawn to and usually I like weirdness. I was hoping for the immersive imagination of Jeliza-rose but there was only really one or two scenes in the entire movie which were poorly done. This was a low budget film, however I was not aware of that before hand.
Not much really happens in the story, I mean yeah it has weird points but not really enough to keep my interest. There was waaay too much dialog between Jeliza-rose and her dolls, which as you can imagine is intensely boring. This really shouldn't have been made into a movie, it's way too slow-paced and it feels like there's a lot missing (which I'm sure there is). This is a book and probably should have remained as one.
I can't personally recommend this to anyone because I really thought I was going to like this movie. It sounded good from what I had heard about it, but I ended up really not liking the film. My advice however is that if you are still interested in seeing the movie for whatever reason. Is that you do yourself a favor and rent it instead of buying it. Even if you like it there isn't really any reason to watch it again, its one of those movies that you probably won't want to watch again even if you do like it.
a 'trip' into the imagination of childhood.. .......2007-06-19
perhaps gilliam's best movie since brazil, tideland is a movie which is closer to a hallucination or a dream than most movies are.. The strange assortment of characters and images will engage your senses with a strange tenacity that will hold your attention throughout the length of the movie.. Gilliam's artistry is very first rate and even when we are puzzled or slightly annoyed we still cannot help but watch.. The movie takes a lot of getting used to and willingness to delve into a world you may not want to go into - but it is well worth it..
Well worth the ride, if you're patient.......2007-06-17
I spent the first hour of this film fidgeting and feeling a bit confused. By the end I was spellbound. Gilliam has surpassed typical film making (even by his own standards of typical) and created real art. It is a vision of the worst of the adult world, viewed through the best of childhood. It is dark, grotesque, disturbing, beautiful, surprising, surreal and at its heart "innocent". If you are unfamiliar with Gilliam's work you're better off starting with The Fisher King or Brazil. But if you're willing to take the time and do a little thinking it's well worth the trip down Gilliam's personal rabbit hole.
Way out left field.......2007-06-13
In the brief introduction, a wild eyed Terry Gilliam explains that as a 64 year old filmmaker he finally found his inner child (a little girl) in order to make this movie adaptation of the Mitch Cullin novel. As expected, Terry Gilliam's inner child is not your average suburban milquetoast - but this is really something else. Jeliza Rose lives with her junkie parents in a remote delapidated farmhouse on some namless prairie. A mix up with some methodone/heroin leads to her mother's death at the start of the movie. Her father (Jeff Bridges - think 'The Dude' from The Big Lebowski only several stages more advanced in his stupor) takes her on a brief wild tour, but soon settles back into his soporific routine of 'vacations' - for 90 percent of the movie he is either a corpse, or tantamount to that, mute in his chair with Jeliza periodically assisting him with his torniquet and injections.
So it's fair to say that Jeliza-Rose doesn't have ideal family circumstances. In fact, she is better off once both parents have departed. She is the typical introverted, lonely imaginative child - only much more so. She acts out hollywood actress scenes in front of her mirror, she befriends her headless barbie dolls (and spends interminable amounts of time in the movie talking to them), names fireflies, shudders in the hulk of a ruined car while trains rattle by. Eventually she encounters the just as bizarre Dell, a witch like figure dressed in black, with a beekeepers veil and a bee stung missing pupil in her right eye. Dell adopts the frightened Jeliza-Rose as a dysfunctional surrogate mother, and Jeliza enters into her world, including a friendship with Dell's brother Dicken's, a retarded epileptic who tallies with Jeliza's imaginative games, and even enters into a form of childish, Lolitaesque boyfriend/girlfriend relationship - 'silly kisser' Jeliza giggles when Dickens proffers his trembling lips to hers.
The paedophilia is not the disturbing aspect of the movie. The complete mishmash of ideas and themes, surrealism without much of a moral purpose other than to satisfy Gilliam's curious inner child reclamation. The movie is a classic visual spectacle, with some eye spiralling rapid camera work and visceral detail - especially concerning Jeliza's father's rotting corpse. But there is too much lunacy and not enough sustenance for this to be a really compelling movie.
Once again, Gilliam tries to realise a bizzare vision, and comes short.
Sometimes critics are wrong...Jaliza Rose!.......2007-06-04
This film mirrored Pan's Labryinth alot. A little girl in a bad world...she fantasizes about escaping. The film is a visual feast, very surrealistic. Jeff Bridges rotting with flies, then being embalmed, how can it get better than that?
Brendan Fletcher gives the best acting performance of 2006.

Unlike Disney's other sequels to their classic films, this follow-up to the 1953 version of Peter Pan debuted in theaters. World War II has turned Wendy's preteen daughter, Jane, into a realist, a girl who insists there's no need for stories and fun while London is crumbling. Hook kidnaps Jane (thinking she's Wendy) and returns to "the second star to the right" to foil Pan. Alas, the film doesn't build on this new story line (the London scenes have the most emotional impact), and what follows is a thin reworking of the original. On the plus side, a clever octopus takes over from that old crocodile, and Jane turns out to be a solid--and modern--role model. Those from ages 4 to 9 who have been brought up on the original should enjoy these adventures, even if the story, like Peter himself, "hasn't grown up." The 72-minute film is shown with the delightful 1948 short "Pluto's Fledgling." --Doug Thomas

At a younger age, I thought this was junk. Now that I'm older, I find that I was being foolish. This is beyond junk, its on the verge of being untouchable waste. As far as Disney sequels go, this one ranks with Cinderella 2 and Air Buddies. I wouldn't even recommend showing this to a baby that has no ability to understand bad movies from good movies, because this will teach them to enjoy nothing of value.
a short review........2007-03-25
First, this movie is overrated and doesn't come close to the Disney original. Disney once stood for quality and entertainment. Now they will exploit any of their classics with a plethora of bad sequels.
I'm not just a hater of new Disney, I own and have seen this movie. Some of it is actually not too bad. Captain hook is funny and the animation is top notch. However, Peter Pan doesn't seem like the same Peter. He seems more immature and annoying. Also, why did they need to have the same dog and call it Nanna 2? This just goes to show how little thought was put into the movie. Out of all the names for the dog, they choose Nana 2.... my god!
Captain Hook Junkie.......2007-01-06
If your kids love Captian Hook or pirates this is the DVD for them. My son loves pirates so he always likes to watch this one.
Return to Neverland? More Like Return to Disney Sequels... .......2006-02-09
You may have read my review for the Disney film "Peter Pan". I said it was a good movie, right? Well, this one did not live up to it's 1953 prequel. It was boring and dramatic and just another cheap Disney sequel.
It starts out completely wrong. Jane, Wendy's daughter, did not exist during World War II but in the late nineteenth century. She was never against Peter Pan and she did not have a brother. She was just a little girl who dreamed of going to Neverland when her mother stopped believing. Also, Captain Hook SHOULD BE DEAD but he comes to England in his flying ship (?) to kidnap who he believes is Wendy.
Once Jane arrives at Neverland she meets Peter Pan. I was really shocked here. What happened to Peter's voice? It is TERRIBLE in the fact that it sounds far too adolescent.
After this meeting, several adventures ensue, including Jane's attempt to escape the island that she still does not believe in. She can't learn to fly and in a rage she blurts out she doesn't believe in fairies, so Tink becomes weak. Jane repents and saves her and becomes friends with all the Lost Boys, eventually fulfilling her dream to become the first Lost Girl. But she has forgotten she made a deal with Captain Hook to help kidnap Peter. Now it is up to Jane to save him, and she does, therefore removing Peter from his post as hero and becoming heroine.
There were a few strange parts about this movie. The Indians are never shown, even though there is a brief pass through the Indian Territory. There is scarcely a visit to Mermaid's Lagoon. And once again, Tootles has no voice. The best part in this movie is the end credits with BBMak's version of "Do You Believe in Magic?". This movie earned three stars, and only because it is tied-in with Peter Pan.
P.S. Check out the other Peter Pan-related reviews by Tinkerbell III!
Um.......I Don't know.......2005-11-27
I like this movie and I don't like this movie. Like my dad I LOVE PETER PAN. I've read the book a million times over, and I was really excited when I saw the previews for this movie. My family saw it in the theaters and I really liked it at first. But after seeing a few times more then it got a little cheesy. The music doesn't really fit the movie and Peter acted more like a kid than ever( even though he's not suppose to grow up they could have made him have more brains than that). This movie is good but it has some parts that are embarressly kiddish. Out of the three squels I think disney did a good job on this one would be second place.

A complete bust. --Tom Keogh

Aweful.......2007-04-07
Not good at all compared to the first. I also am not sure but it doesn't look digitalized.
Not as good as the first Jurassic Park, but still Awsome.......2007-02-10
This wasn't quite as good as the First Jurassic Park in 1993. But this is still the action packed And it's my second favorite Jurassic park. The lost world jurassic park came out in 1997. This one had even more dinosaurs. And much more carnovors eating people! YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS FILM!!! Also see these films Jurassic park & Jurassic park 3.
Dinosaur Eats Man-It gets old!.......2007-01-29
Jurassic Park was amazing. That might have been because it was the first monster/horror film I've ever seen. But it was action-packed, and it was suspensful. THE LOST WORLD starts that way, but it wears off a quarter of the way through the film. This movie runs in a basic cycle: T-rex comes out of the forest. People run from T-rex. T-rex eats people. T-rex goes back into the forest. Over, over, and over again. The only real suspensful part is about forty-five minutes into the film, when the three main characters are trapped in a trailer that is slowly falling over a cliff into the ocean five hundred feet below. That was the only part that made me gasp.
It starts to get old, and then it just starts to get insane. This is a jungle movie. In the end, it takes a turn for GODZILLA and has a big T-rex stomping his way through San Diego. Half way through the movie you're ready to turn it off, and by the end you're breathing a sigh of relief. It is true that THE LOST WORLD had more dinos, better visual effects, and more action (if you can call eating people action)than the original Jurassic Park. But in my opinoin, just watch the first one and forget that there are any sequels. You'll enjoy it!
A jokey dinosaur movie don't make for good cinema.......2007-01-29
Everyone in my generation has to remember seeing the first movie in theaters, and how great it was to see dinosaurs come to life thanks to a mixture of stop-motion, robotics, and the first major use of modern computer graphics. The story wasn't the greatest in the world, but it was entertaining nonetheless, and seeing the movie as an adult later I still loved it. Many more of us probably saw this movie when it came out in theaters. At the time I didn't think much of it, but seeing it again as an adult...willickers, was this bad.
The plot consists of Ian Malcom (Jeff Goldblum) being called to John Hammond's mansion. It turns out that he is a member of the company InGen, and has a snotty rich nephew looking to move in on his dinosaur science. It's also revealed that the dinosaurs were actually bred on ANOTHER island (all this fits into the "we forgot to tell you this in the first movie" category of film rules) and Hammond wants Malcom to lead a team there before his greedy nephew can try and utilize the dinosaurs to make money. Malcom agrees because it turns out his girlfriend is there, (Julianne Moore, who never quite picked up how to act) and his black daughter (don't ask) stows away in their trailer. While on the island Hammond's greedy nephew arrives with their team, with the goal of capturing dinosaurs, including a T-Rex.
There are so many faults to this movie, but I think I'll start with the characters. It's very safe to say the dinosaurs are the best part of this film, as most of the humans deserve to be extinct in their own right. In the first movie Malcom was great; he was a kind of Cassandra-like character who spoke cynical wisdom but was ignored. In this one he's just annoying, because he makes sarcastic jokes ALL THE TIME. It's much like how Lucas ruined Yoda in the new Star Wars movies by overdoing his backwards talk. This is combined with the fact that every other character in this film makes a sarcastic comment at every occasion, whether it be about the death of their friends or their dire situation. Also, let's talk about Julianne Moore's character, who is the greatest offender. She's supposed to be smart, and she's supposed to be independent. You're supposed to laugh at Malcom's attempts to save her, but you realize he's right - because she's a complete idiot! She's also an amazing hypocrit. She tells people not to interfere with the island or even "bend a blade of grass" yet walks right up to a baby dinosaur and touches it, causes a stampede, takes in a baby T-Rex, intermingles with the dinosaur population, and in general bends a lot of grass. She also warns people that some dinosaurs have a strong sense of smell, then continues to wear a jacket covered in baby T-rex blood. This gets a lot of people killed, but we're still supposed to like her as a character. Oh yeah, and there's John Hammond's nephew. You liked John Hammond in the first movie because - despite all his faults - he was a very human character. His nephew is the typical corporate villain character you'd find in any other horror movie.
Now let's talk about the film itself, which is just bad all around. There are so many problems with the story that Ed Wood would shake his head in shame. Take for example how the carnivores are supposed to be on the interior of the island, yet a little girl is attacked by carnivores on the island's beach and InGen personnel find a T-Rex nest right near where they park on the island's exterior. Or how about how no one knows the island is secretly called "The Five Deaths" even though it's clearly shown on their trailer map as being labeled "The Five Deaths?" Or what about that whole scene with the boat, where the T-Rex somehow escaped, killed everyone, then the captain became a zombie and shut the T-Rex back in its haul before dying for good. (at least, that's the only way I can explain it) Speaking of that whole sequence, how'd you like the T-Rex walking around San Diego? Especially since it seems to do so for about ten minutes without causing ANY KIND OF MASSIVE CHAOS! And then when police come they turn around and drive away as if they didn't know what was walking about the city. (there's even an "animal control" van there with them...I think that's an attempt at humor, but I'm not laughing) By the way, I think this is the only world where a T-Rex could sneak up on people, as one does so in three scenes. Do dinosaurs tiptoe?
And how about the great dialogue, like when Hammond's nephew wants to set up camp and Pete Postlethwaite's character says to him:
"Peter, if you want me to run your little camping trip, there are two conditions: first, I'm in charge, and when I'm not around, Dieter is. All you have to do is sign the checks, tell us we're doing a good job, and open your case of scotch when we have a good day. Second condition: my fee? You can keep it. All I want in return for my services is the right to hunt one of the tyrannosaurs. A male, a buck only. How and when is my business. Now if you don't like either of those conditions, you're on your own."
Uh, shouldn't they have settled all this BEFORE they left for the island?
Admittedly I used to see this movie in a brighter light. A few months ago I would've given it three stars. I used to think this was a fun-bad movie - the kind of "craptastic" film you could laugh at. After a while, though, it became unbearable. And I know exactly when I snapped. It was when they showed those Japanese businessmen running from the T-rex. HA HA HA HA HA!! GET IT FOLKS?! JAPANESE PEOPLE RUNNING FROM A GIANT REPTILE!! HA HA, THAT'S COMEDY GOLD!! HA HA...HA...ha...
Yeah, just avoid this movie. They constantly play it for laughs, which makes it a campy just-for-the-money sequel. Just stick with the first one and pretend it ended there.
Darker in tone and weaker characters than the first movie.......2006-11-25
Like Jurassic Park, "The Lost World" is based on a novel by Michael Crichton, who was a co-writer on both screenplays. The original novel was darker than the movie; this movie reflects that darkness.
The main character is Ian Malcom (Jeff Goldblum), a supporting role in the original, and a non-surviving character in the book. The only other movie character that has a role more than a cameo is John Hammond (Richard Attenborough), a character that likewise did not survive the book. To me, the first hint on the tone of the movie was to make cynical Malcolm the star instead of the more typical heroic Dr. Grant (Sam Neill) from the original. Even the humor is darker.
The first scene in this sequel is actually from the opening of the original novel (I have not read the novel "The Lost World"), partially used because it introduces a dinosaur not in the original movie, though these critters played a role in the original novel.
This sequel, though, is more of a horror story than a true science fiction story. Its goal is to terrify you. As a result, many of the human characters are meant to be victims for the monsters (e.g. dinosaurs), instead of characters you really care about.
This movie follows the formula of the original movie: 1) an attack by a dinosaur; 2) an introduction to why the characters come to the island; 3) some wonderful dinosaur footage, and lighter hearted plot/character development; 4) the attack of the tyrannosaur(s); 5) more action; 6) the attack of the velociraptors; and 7) the rescue of the survivors. This sequel does add a second ending, where a tyrannosaur is allowed to roam the streets of San Diego as you would expect from a B-grade horror movie.
If you like horror movies, this will be to your liking. It is well crafted as far as the special effects. However, I would not recommend this movie.

lots of fun.......2006-02-03
"The lost world" is definetly lots of fun. If you like dinosaurs and action adventure, then this show is for you. The cast is really good. Will Snow is a great leading man as sir John Roxton. Then there is the wonderful duo of Rachel Blakely and Jenifer O'dell. The two ladies are definetly very sexy and provide the babe factor. Rachel Blakely's character Margarite is the life of the show. You never know what she is going to do next. If your tired of the current reality T.V. craze, then pick up season 1 of "The lost World" and enjoy some Fantasy adventure fun.
Pure Entertainment.......2005-08-13
Good people of TV, let's keep in mind that when you turn your TV's on and set your channels to watch a "FANTASY SHOW", that it's purely for entertainment only. That's what I get out of "The Lost World". For what it's worth I think the show offers all that any normal show would. Drama, sorrow, disbelief, hate, love and even sometimes horror so to speak. But at least if my grandchild sat down with me to watch , I wouldn't be scrambling to change the channels. It's good entertainment. Hope to see more of the series and even the same characters.

The Lost World.......2007-05-21
I was very disappointed with this DVD set. I had to return it twice cause of defectiveness. It was a gift gone bad :(
The Lost World - Season 3.......2006-07-12
I found this season to be just as exciting as the first.
season 3 ruind the entire series!.......2006-02-07
I got into this show with season 1 which I liked the cover and bought it from amazon.com.
First it was cheesy, but by time it got better and at the end of one season I decieded to buy another two. season 2 was really good. story line was far more sophisticated and visuals wer decent enough. but season 3...
I really dissapointed. some episodes had the worst and most childis stories that a a person can imagine. once I thought what are the producers? 8? hadn't they enough childhood? transefring into another time and place with same actors and actresses as different phenomenas was acceptable once but it seemed they liked it and continue it...
and the worst episode was that westen episode! I barely ended it to satisfy myself that I whatched all the series without any skip!
and in other episode, there was not really a logic story, I hoped that they used primitive visual effects instead of that freak stories. they ruined the series in season 3 and it was predictable that they couldnt go on any further!
But worst or best, it was not decent they abandon the series without a certain end!
my suggestion is, they could gather the stars one more time and produce 90 minues show as the series finale. they owe fans at least that favor!
Where Is The Ending?.......2005-11-23
I just started watching The Lost World, maybe 2 months ago. (2005)I have planned to order all 3 years series, but I would love to see the adventurers go home to London sometime.
It hurts me to see shows, that does not finish off with a happy ending, when the show does not want to go on, any more.
What do I do? Dream of a happy ending myself?
If you are a fan (like me), I think we should get together and see we can get them to do one more last season, ending with them going to, where their hearts desire.
Not bad for what it is.......2005-09-22
I stunbled upon season 2 of this show while channel surfing at 3:00 am. Somehow the show became a ritual viewing, so much so that when it jumped channels and moved to an even more inconvenient time (!), I made an effort to tune in. Season 2 was one of those "this is so bad it's good" guilty pleasures. The actors play their parts well and the stories became ever more ridiculous, and paradoxically all that much better. Season 3 though..... contract disputes limited David Orth and Jennifer O'Dell to a handful of episodes. O'Dell is definitely missed. Her replacement, Finn, from a post-apocalyptic future never really fits in with the cast. The unforgiveable flaw of Season 3 is its cliffhanger ending. While a good episode, the series' subsequent cancellation makes it very bittersweet. I hate only getting half the story. This is not the greatest adventure show, but is head and shoulders better than contemporaries such as Hercules: The Legendary Adventures and Xena: The Warrior Princess.

I am Continually impressed with the production values, especially for a show that came out every week. The location shots are worth the viewing alone. The characters are good, with enough sense of togetherness that you care about watching them. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys adventure type shows.
Love this series!.......2007-01-18
Bought Season 1 for my husband. My Son(14 years old) liked them so much I bought him season 2. He said they were great, but the last episode is a continuation to Season 3, so now I gotta go buy that one. He was a little annoyed about the cliffhanger. But I have to say this is a good series and I am glad we started watching them, which we do as a family (ages 11 and up). They can be intense for younger veiwers. But better than anything on TV now.
The Lost World - Season 2.......2006-07-12
Each season was great. There was alot of action. I was sorry to come to the end.
A good second season.......2005-09-30
I have seen these episodes on TNT and on Tv.com and I still say that season one of The Lost World is still better than this season. Only twenty of these twenty two episodes are good and that is why I gave this four stars instead of five like I did season one. I still do intend to buy this when I get the chance though. Like I said, this seas on is still good.
What A Great Series, A Must See!.......2005-01-05
I know tons of people are watching reality series, but do they have what The Lost World has? It has romance, teamwork, friendship, and a lot of lessons. Surprisingly it's most vital lesson is teamwork because without it I bet they would have perished. Of course Roxton and Marguerite are awesome because they have more chemistry each episode. A must see, perfectly awesome and just getting better each episode!!!!!!!!!

History Teacher .......2007-05-23
This video was a wonderful addition to my curriculum. It provide solid factual information with rich, detailed photography, computer-generated imagery and stunning graphical displays. It provided my students a much richer insight into "Old India" so that they could appreciate the culture in a more modern world.
What a great learning!.......2007-02-18
This DVD tells you many things about Indias history. Without revieling the contents I would say it is worth the money. I give it 4 out of 5 because i wish it had longer chapters as I found my self wanting more. Probably the best documentary about Indian history that I have seen and great 3D re-creations.
Good overview of Indian history.......2006-12-04
This 50-minute documentary is a good overview of the history of India through the 17th century, with special attention to archaeology and architecture. Topics include the Indus Valley civilization, the Aryans, the Vedic period, karma and reincarnation, the caste system, the Mauryan Empire, Ashoka and the rise of Buddhism, the Gupta Dynasty and the resurgence of Hinduism, the Rajput Empire, the rise of Islam, the Mughal Empire, and the Taj Mahal.
If you're considering using this video in the classroom or watching it with children, note that one of the architectural treasures from the Rajput Empire is a temple covered with explicitly sexual sculptures.
Also recommended: "The Soul of India," a 90-minute guided tour of India.
Good Review for AP World History.......2006-11-05
The film covers Indian history from the Indus Valley civilization (Harappa) through the Mughals. It hits all the major points needed for a good review of Indian history prior to the AP World History exam. It is also good for discussions on change-over-time in India. The film can also be shown in segments to reinforce instruction as you go along.
a good reference.......2006-06-26
Quite informative for a 50 minute program, but it helps to have a little background knowledge on the subject matter. As with other DVD's from this series, the subject is too broad to be adequately covered in that amount of time. So topics such as the Sikh and Jain religions are not really discussed. I found this DVD is a good reference to be used in conjunction with other sources of information.

I finally found it........2007-06-28
I saw this film years ago. To tell the truth, I was 5 years young back then when they brought it to the cinemas. There were neither VCRs then nor color TVs in Israel, mind you. So as a small kid watching this fantastic film stretched so widely on the big screen with the icebergs, the Zeppelin, the volcanos, the huge dark whales and the barbaric vikings running around...wow, that was an overdose. After 32 years, those very same pictures were all that I could remember. I didn't know the title of the film; I knew nothing about it except for the icebergs, the Zeppelin, the volcanos...you get my drift. The 21st century with its much improved search engines has brought this film back to me, and it is here to stay. Now my children, my wife and I can relax and see it again.
good family fun.......2006-11-15
I happened on this film at a local video store and remembered on a hollow earth conspiracy list that this film was based upon the Eskimo legend that the lost viking colony of Greenland actually did not die out, but went north where there was more game and food.
In any event I did enjoy the film and reminded me of the caliber of films that made movies like "The sound of music" such enjoyable family fun. Yes, there are plot holes, and the acting is not perfect - but this is not the point since kids really aren't that picky when it comes to these kinds of things. And I as an adult still liked this film as well. It is a good story, with good set design. Perfect for elementary school level kids and up.
A great film? No. Great fun? Yes!.......2006-07-15
There are some films you love but you can't really justify. Still, I'll give it a try with The Island at the Top of the World. I can understand why a younger generation probably have a hard time taking an adventure movie with action icons Donald Sinden, David Hartman and Jacques Marin seriously. And yes, the once state of the art special effects do look quaint these days, not least Donald Sinden running furiously on the spot to outrun backprojected lava in a shot that elicited roars of laughter from audiences at the time. Maybe it's because it's one of those films I grew up with. In the pre-Star Wars seventies there weren't that many kid-friendly adventure movies, what with nihilism, Vietnam and post-Watergate cynicism setting the screen agenda, so a film that offered airships, volcanoes, killer whales, Eskimos (as we still ignorantly called them in those days), the North Pole and a lost colony of Vikings (in what looks so suspiciously like the Shangri-La of the previous year's Lost Horizon remake that you keep on expecting them to start singing The World is a Circle) was like Christmas come early.
The plot is the standard three-act lost world model - spend a third of the movie getting there, a third finding out what it's like and the last third running for their lives as they attempt to escape - but Disney's now forgotten A-list director Robert Stevenson keeps it moving swiftly along, Peter Ellenshaw's Oscar-nominated production design and Alan Maley's matte paintings give it a storybook quality and it also has a beautiful Maurice Jarre score which has sadly never been released as an album. Dammit, I still enjoy it!
Disney's 30th anniversary edition is the one to get. The extras aren't as lavish as the Vault Disney series, but there better than the pevious R1 and overseas DVD releases - a 1968 presentation reel for the film, a vintage behind-the-scenes featurette, 4 TV spots, 2 trailers, camera dailies and a surprisingly good stills gallery. It's just a shame they didn't carry over the isolated score from the laserdisc issue.
Nice Idea; Weak Execution.......2005-10-25
I have always been a big fan of Disney movies. When this movie came out in the 1970s I chose to spend my money on this movie rather than other (better, as I found out later) movies. I was somewhat disappointed at that time that the movie was relatively cheesy in the special effects department. I had to wonder whether my perceptions had changed in 30+ years.
The story begins with a lot of promise. Sir Anthony Ross (Donald Sinden) is on a mission to find his son, who was lost on an Artic expedition. He "recruits" Professor John Ivarsson (David Hartman) to go on the trip. Ivarsson is an American archeologist who also happens to speak the language of the Vikings. Sorry. He has read the language of the ancient Vikings.
Sir Anthony has commissioned a motorized balloon to take his search to the Arctic. While there are a few places where the balloon is readily discernible as a model, the balloon was one of the most charming features of this movie, and one of the best special effects.
Sir Anthony's modes of operation include all manner of highhanded and arrogant activities. In addition to coercing Ivarsson, he is dictatorial with Captain Brieux, the pilot of the balloon, he kidnaps Oomiak (Mako), an Eskimo who was with Donald Ross (David Gwillim) when the great blizzard struck, and generally acts like an arrogant jerk through most of the movie. I began to cringe every time he opened his mouth, and I suspect you will too.
Sir Anthony's expedition reaches a lost colony of Vikings on an island they call Astragard. Fortunately, Professor Ivarsson speaks the language. Of course, Sir Anthony's son would have learned the language by then as well, not to mention having fallen for Freyja (Agneta Eckmeyr), a local blonde lass. Of course there are obligatory moments of tension as the adventurers are accused of being invaders, the mandatory execution, the escape, and all the excitement that goes with a Disney showdown between the bad guys and the good guys.
The movie has high moments. I was fascinated when a propeller broke over the ocean. Nearly every scene with the balloon was a winner. Some of the scenes on the lost island of Astragard were very good, including portions that looked suspiciously like they were "inspired" by "In Search of the Castaways."
The acting was uniformly poor. David Hartman's face was deadpan through the entire movie. His face actually showed emotion in the final scene for the first time. I found Sir Anthony to be obnoxious. I wondered whether the director was poking fun at the English by having the American counsel caution and attempt to be tactful while Sir Anthony was worse than a bull in a china shop. Many of the supporting actors were just as weak, often looking like they were waiting for their cue to speak, standing in place unnaturally. However, the cast had two characters I enjoyed. Mako was good as long-haired Oomiak. The movie was much more interesting because of the addition of Oomiak. I also liked Captain Brieux. Of course, Oomiak and Captain Brieux appeared to have honest emotions, and the two of them together had more emotions that the rest of the cast put together.
There were many places in the movie where the special effects were obvious. The mattes, lava flows and blue screen effects were nearly always painfully obvious. Each time I watch one of the running scenes against a blue screen I wonder how the actors kept from being completely embarrassed. I will refrain from describing how poor the killer whales appeared in their attack scene.
This 1974 movie had a chance of being as good as Disney's adventure movies of the 60s. However, there were too many things going against it. The acting was weak, the plot was excessively derivative, and the special effects were poor even by Disney's standards. In spite of all the bashing, I am actually fond of this movie. It has a certain cheesy charm that allows me to watch it after having seen it several times over the years. I am hesitant to recommend this movie because of its weaknesses, but if you are looking for another movie in the style of "In Search of the Castaways" and the Disney version of "Swiss Family Robinson," then you may want to give this one a try.
Back when Disney was fun........2005-03-17
Island at the Top of the World was probably not one of Disney's better live action movies. Most of the fans saw it back when they were kids in the early 70's and it has managed to hang in a few peoples memories. The acting isnt bad save for David Hartman who is barely believable. The story isnt bad but not very believable either. Still, you really have to appreciate the large matte paintings used for backdrops and sets. They must have been difficult to make. You also have to give Disney credit at the time for not making the lost Norse tribe speak English. With all the costumes and make up and sets it definitely feels like a '70s movie.
Surprisingly Disney managed to put some extras on this dvd. One short documentary, made just prior to the films release, is included. You have to laugh when the narrator says things like "this film is destined to become a classic movie" and "If X and Y and Z had happend, then a tribe of Norsemen could still be living today". Oh please!
Buy it if your nostalgic,or you appreciate the effort of movie makers back then, you wont be disappointed. Rent it if you have never heard of it.
