Thank you, Paul McCartney, for giving us Buddy Holly fans a real treat. I used to have this on a VHS tape I made from a (shortened) TV broadcast. Great to have the whole show. Buddy would love it, and you will too.

SO BAD ITS GOOD :).......2007-06-21
This movie has a lot of comedic value. From the bad acting to the bad dialogue. From the bad special fx to the bad costumes. If you're looking for serious Star Wars type sci fi, this ain't it. Its a cheap imitation/knock-off. If you're looking for satire/parody this ain't it either. Spaceballs was meant to be a comedy. This was not. Elle, the robot with a bad southern accent, and equally bad dialogue might be the best part. But this movie is also eye candy. It has some trippy visuals akin to lava lamps and kaleidoscopes. If that's the sort of thing you're looking for. I bought it on DVD, watched it, and I will watch it again and again.
The best bad movie ever.......2007-05-22
Shockingly poor.........everything, actually painful to watch. So bad I loved it. There is absolutely nothing good or even accurate about this film. It is a must-see for anyone who enjoys bad cinema.
The ONLY review to read........2007-02-16
This dvd release is pure garbage. It's worth the price of a dollar store purchase. I can't believe that some reviewers have the audacity to even describe the "remastering." There is NO remastering. The label slapped a letterbox around the transfer and obviously fooled a few people. There are ridiculously LOUD audio pops and film is covered in dirt. The opening "Star Wars" credits are in French because these idiots used a French version and did NOTHING to add subs or any translation. I can read and speak French so I didn't have a problem...but what about the general public?
The actual dvd cover looks like it was made with first generation graphics program and printed on a home computer. Does this label operate out of someone's basement in rural Texas?
It's a shame that Substance, like many labels abuses the public with lousy releases of hard to find movies, because despite all of the obviously bad homages to other fantasy films, this kooky psychedelic movie is a charmiing Saturday afternoon feature. I just want to know how so many major celebs were lured into this production, including Bond composer John Barry. Did Luigi Cozzi offer them free weekends at the seaside villa? Pure madness.
Hilarious Italian sci fi insanity with Marjoe Gortner & David Hasselhoff!.......2006-11-22
This movie is completely insane. The plot makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, which is pretty much par for the course with Italian cheapies like this. The special effects are atrocious. The actors are completely at a loss as to how to act/react to the mess they are in and.... I loved it.
What else can one say about a film where the best performance is delivered by....David Hasselhoff? Scary but true. Not even the usually mesmerizing Marjo Gortner can do anything with the logic-defying lines of dialogue he is forced to utter. After 10 minutes I was laughing so hard I knew I'd found something...unique.
I very rarely venture down the road of "so bad its good" movies but STARCRASH is mind-boggling in its awfulness. Characters can tell the future but won't let anyone in on what is going to happen because its "...against the law." Christopher Plummer (looking as if he is very worried about being given the opportunity to act in anything else ever again) states at one point, " I wouldn't be the Emerperor of the Universe if I didn't have a few talents. Now, Imperial Spaceship--halt the flow of time!"
Joe Spinell, dressed like a dime-store Satan and dubbed by a man who sounds uncomfortably constipated, declares at one point, "By sundown I will be the most powerful man in the universe!" And you sit there and think, Sundown? You're in outer space, dude!
I could go on and on: There are jerky stop-motion monsters, psychedelic blobs of light that attack people for no explainable reason,a robot who begins the film speaking normally and then about 15 minutes in starts talking in a southern accent,Christmas tree lights masquerading as stars, a weapon called The Doom Machine and a central Non-performance from the ravishingly lovely but completely talentless Caroline Munro.
So, if you are looking for a rousing sci fi adventure with narrative coherence, decent special effects, worthwhile acting and competent technical craftsmanship, watch Star Wars; but if you're in the mood for an incomprehensible but colorful mish-mash of Ray Harryhausen movies, old Flash Gordon serials and just about everything else up to and including the kitchen sink, watch STARCRASH. You certainly won't forget it soon.
A horrible, horrible movie. Possibly a MST3K candidate.......2006-11-04
I saw this film when it first came out, thinking it was going to be a worthy sci-fi epic (I was only 17 - what did I know). Anyway when I saw it, even at 17, I could tell that this was awful trash. I looked it up on Amazon because I figured it must get some funny reviews and I was right. I'm considering buying it just to see if my memory of its awfulness matches the reality, but I'm afraid - very afraid. From what I remember this film is basically a poor imitation of the camp classic Battle Beyond the Stars, but it's far worse.
I wonder if Mystery Science Theatre 3000 ever got hold of this film?

The last interview with the Hollywood princess who wore a crown in Monaco. Just days before her death, Princess Grace sat down with "20/20's" Pierre Salinger to speak about her life, her children and her world. She was often called cool and frosty, and a private person. But in this rare and candid interview, Princess Grace talks candidly about her life as princess of Monaco, as a queen of Hollywood, and as a mother and wife.

Description
STRANGE FREQUENCY 2 stars Rock `N' Roll favorites Roger Daltrey and Sebastian Bach, along with Ally Sheedy, Frank Whaley, Jason Gedrick, Wendie Malick and more in four musical mythologies, including "Soul Man," "Instant Karma," "Cold Turkey" and "Don't Stop Believing."
Customer Reviews:
So-so series doesn't take advantage of its talent.......2007-03-20
I purchased this set for the "Soul Man" segment starring James Marsters and Roger Daltrey. None of the four stories, however is all that engaging despite having some notable actors taking part. The stories are somewhat predictable, the acting is uneven (Peter Strauss appears to be sleepwalking through his performance although his segment is perhaps the most interesting), and since each of them is rather brief you have little time to be engaged by the characters even when the actors have something to work with. Best rented rather than purchased, I doubt many will want to review these stories more than once.
"DISCO INFERNO" IS HYSTERICAL!.......2006-06-03
Erik Palladino ("OVER*THERE") fans, with a good sense of humor, will enjoy "DISCO INFERNO".
Best friends Buck (Erik Palladino) and Randy (Danny Masterson) are die-hard rockers, who crash their car into a pole late one night, after a Metallica concert. They seek help from the only place available, a nearby disco nightclub, which appears to be stuck in a time warp from the 70's. The owner of the disco enlists the help of "hot disco chicks" to try and persuade the rockers to succumb to the dark side, a/k/a disco!
Perfectly cast, cleverly written, and well acted, "STRANGE FREQUENCY" is worth buying for the "DISCO INFERNO" segment alone.
MUSICAL MAYHEM.......2004-12-06
STRANGE FREQUENCY, originally aired on VH-1, harkens back to the days of those wonderful anthologies like TALES FROM THE CRYPT, TALES THAT WITNESS MADNESS, etc., and surprisingly, it works. One of the best anthologies of recent years, STRANGE FREQUENCY gives us four different tales, all with a musical theme. In DISCO INFERNO, we meet two hard core rock and rollers (Danny Masterson, Erik Palladino), who crash their car into a telephone pole and seek solace in a nightclub. The club turns out to be a disco club, right out of the seventies. The manager, Dante (Martin Cummins) is a John Travolta clone, and introduces the boys to some hot chicks. Of course our rockers belittle and berate the disco scene, and find out there's more to the club than meets the eye. Wonderfully performed, the ultimate resolution is obvious, but it has some nice twists, and lots of humor. You also get to hear "Disco Inferno," "Der Kommissar" and yes, "YMCA." Tongue in cheek, it's a winner. In "My Generation," we meet Eric Roberts, a dinosaur from the past who listens to people like Bob Dylan, The Who and others from that generation. He picks up hitchhikers heading for a rockfest in Seattle, and yes, he bumps them off because of their disrespect for his music. His latest hiker, Christopher Masterson, is just like the rest, but he has his own agenda. Marvelously played out, there are lots of laughs, and an ending that is appropriately fitting. "Room Service" features Duran Duran's John Taylor as Jimmy Blitz, a has been super rock star, who is as obnoxious as they get. Holland Taylor steals the show as the housekeeper who manages to get the room in shape after all of his wild parties. When she reveals to a reporter that she has housekept for such stars as Sinatra, Jagger and Little Richard, she gets the headline Blitz wanted to restart his career. To get revenge, he goes to outrageous lengths to destroy the room, each time finding it immaculately cleaned. When he attacks the lady's cleaning cart, however, disaster ensues. This is cleverly written and performed, and its ending is remarkably fun. The final story, "More than a Feeling" takes the mood a lot darker, and has a chilling denouement. Judd Nelson is very good as talent agent Martin Potter, who has this remarkable talent for picking out superstars, a true "gut" reaction that almost renders him incapacitated. He is worried, though, because every star he has made (except 2) have died. His latest is a female singer (Marla Sokoloff) who has gone multiplatinum, and now decides she's ready for a break. Her brutish manager/boyfriend (Nels Lennarson) goes through the roof and Martin is concerned for her welfare. His other discovery Dean (Adrian Holmes) is working as producer, as well. What happens in the end is chilling to say the least.
STRANGE FREQUENCY is a very entertaining, witty and original collection. I recommend it.
strange indeed.......2004-10-25
Strange Frequency tells the tale of 4 short stories. The first one being 2 rockers, Danny Mastersen (That 70's Show, Dracula 2000) and Erik Pallidino (U571, E.R.) who end up crashing their car in a street pole and end up in a disco club. Soon they find out that they are dead and in hell. The second one is Eric Roberts (The Specialist, Best Of The Best) who is a hippie psychopath and picks up teens who listen to the new age of music and he kills them. He picks upa kid, Christopher Mastersen (Malcolm In The Middle, Campfire Tales), who happens to do the same thing he does. The 3rd story is about a rock star played by Duran Druan's very own John Taylor..Jimmy Blitz is the character's name. Well, Taylor crashes the room and the maid, Holland Taylor (George Of The Jungle, The Practice) who gets sick and tired of Taylor and his band trashing the room and the 4th one is about a agent, Judd Nelson (Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, The Breakfast Club) who gets headaches when he hears singing or something of that nature. It was a VH1 movie thing and I didnt really care for it that much, I only watched it for John Taylor, Judd Nelson and Danny Mastersen. Eric Roberts needs to find better quality work, he's getting too much into that region now where he makes bad choices in projects. Also starring Marla Skoloff (The Practice, Sugar and Spice). So all in all this wasnt for me. Sue me.
John Taylor Blitz.......2003-06-07
Four hip short films with a twist, the best of which is "Room Service",in which real life rock icon John Taylor plays Jimmy Blitz,a caricature of the seediest hotel trashing guitar heroes.
He pits his wits against the hotel maid in a totally wild performance, destroying her efforts to restore the place to sanity every morning-after-the-night-before.
In a typical Strange Frequency ending,he gets his just desserts in the end.
The other three short films are about rock and pop also, and all of them will get you thinking, make you laugh and entertain you like no other.

Eric Campbell looms large in the history of silent comedy on the basis of a mere 11 films. Between 1916 and 1917 he appeared as Charlie Chaplin's hulking nemesis in 11 of his 12 comedy classics for Mutual, a literal Goliath to Chaplin's David. With heavy, frowning eyebrows and a slow-burn stare, this huge yet agile Scottish actor became one of the most recognizable faces on the screen and even inspired copycats (one delightful piece of archival footage shows a young Oliver Hardy in a thick black beard blatantly imitating Campbell). In December 1917, on the verge of a brilliant career, Eric Campbell died in a car accident. Writer-director Kevin Macdonald uses archival footage and photos to illuminate his rich career on the British stage and music hall circuit, and interviews paint a portrait of a gentle family man. Macdonald pads out the film with a Scottish-pride slant on Campbell's success (the film's subtitle is "In Search of Scotland's Forgotten Star") and the reminiscences of Campbell's granddaughter, pleasant but unnecessary diversions. The film is at its best when examining his gifts as a screen comic, seen in clips and notably in rare outtakes from his work with Chaplin. His improvisational talents show that "Big Uncle Eric"--as he was known to kids around the world--was no mere foil for Chaplin. Eric Campbell was a creative artist and a comic partner, a vital part of Chaplin's most productive period. --Sean Axmaker
Customer Reviews:
Funny man who did not sound Scottish in those silent films.......2005-05-06
If you have seen any of the twelve two-reelers that Charlie Chaplin produced between 1916-1917 for the Mutual Company, then you have probably seen Eric Campbell, who played the menacing villain to Chaplin's Tramp in all but one of those silent comedies ("One A.M."). Campbell provided Chaplin with his most memorable foil, not only because of his immense size and fierce looking makeup, but also because of his comic ability, honed on the music hall stages of England with Fred Karno's company. "Chaplin's Goliath: In Search of Scotland's Forgotten Star," written and directed by Kevin MacDonald, traces the actor's brief film career, which was cut short by a car accident in December 1917 when he was doing his first dramatic film with Mary Pickford. But as this 1996 documentary evidences, Campbell's career will forever be identified with that of Chaplin.
"Chaplin's Goliath" uses rare footage and historical documents, along with interviews with Campbell's granddaughter and such Chaplin experts as biographer David Robinson, to tell the actor's story from his roots in Scotland to his long delayed burial in a Hollywood cemetery. Indeed, the documentary essentially begins and acts with the placing of plaques commemorating Campbell in those two locations. The result is not only a compilation of pretty much everything that is known about Eric Campbell, but a look at what comedy was like during the silent film era, especially when Chaplin had become the most famous face on the planet. There are film clips of music hall comedians of the period and not only of some of the comedians who impersonated Chaplin (e.g., Billy West), but poignant screen tests of Chaplin trying to find a replacement for Campbell and no less a film icon than Oliver Hardy doing an impersonation of Campbell is a silent comedy.
Of course, there are also clips of Campbell's best scenes with Chaplin from "The Immigrant," "Easy Street," and other Mutual comedies. Like "Unknown Chaplin," MacDonald takes advantage of outtakes that survive from those films to show how Campbell fit into Chaplin's creative process. The prime example is that Campbell was not originally cast as the waiter in "The Immigrant," and so we get to see before and after footage as Chaplin tries to make a scene work and gets what he wants once Campbell becomes part of the comedic equation. If watching this documentary makes you want to check out both the original Mutual comedies and the three-part documentary looking at the painstaking creative process by which Chaplin created his films then you should go with the impulse, especially if for some strange reason you are interested in "Chaplin's Goliath" having never seen them in the first place.
The documentary also tells about Campbell's personal life, which included lying about his age to get married, the sudden death of his first wife, and the rather strange marriage and divorce that followed. Unfortunately Campbell's life had become unstable at the point when he was killed and while we would like to believe that he would have gone on to a long and successful film career, it is just as likely that he was in the process of self-destructing and that the accident ended what his behavior was already destroying. This is especially true when you get to the story of what happened to Campbell's ashes, which provides his life store with a final tragic touch as one of the larger real-life Pagliacci's of the silent comedy era.
Simply Outstanding about Charlie's Goliath.......2001-01-25
Eric Campbell would have been an excellent actor. Unfortunatelly he had an early death. This documentary is the deserved tribute to the man who worked hard with Charlie Chaplin in the best silent short moovies ever, those, for the Mutual Film Corporation, between 1916 - 1917. Eric Campbell is trully Scotland's forgotten star.

Description
DISCO INFERNO Heavy metal dudes Buck (Erik Palladino) and Randy (Danny Masterson) head-bang their car into a tree after a late night rock-fest. The only help for miles around is a freaky late night club that for them becomes 'disco hell'. MY GENERATION Eric Roberts takes a star turn as an aging hippie who cruises the rock festival circuit preying on unsuspecting 'grungers'. On picking up a streetwise hitcher, Roberts gets an indie education that he didn't bargain for and is forced into a 'beat-generation' showdown. ROOM SERVICE Duran Duran legend John Taylor plays dinosaur rocker Jimmy Blitz, still abusing TVs and trashing hotel rooms in a whirlwind rock lifestyle. When his cleaning lady's tidying abilities threaten to ruin his bad-boy reputation, a battle of wills ensues. What will win out, sledgehammer, guitar or feather-duster? MORE THAN A FEELING And finally the creepy story of a famous promoter (Judd Nelson) who literally has 'gut' instinct for talent-spotting. A skill his rivals would die for and, as he realizes with horror, something his prodigies are dying from...

Stella Star and her sidekick Akton are a pair of small-time smugglers, always on the run from the galactic police. After outwitting the authorities yet again, they discover the lone survivor of a secret mission to destroy the evil Count Zartharn's latest weapon. Both are captured and sentenced to prison, but escape and meet the Emperor - who deems them as resourceful enough to both destroy the Count's weapon, and to find the his missing son. Can Stella and Akton stop Count Zartharn, before all hope for intergalactic peace is forever lost?
Italy's answer to the science fiction craze brought on by the original Star Wars, StarCrash is campy good fun, with bright gaudy colors, cheesy acting and lots of leather!

Want it on DVD? It's been re released as "Female Space Invaders".......2005-08-26
I saw this Italian movie on video in the early 1980's and instantly fell in love with it's storyline, characters and with it's use of David Hasselhoff as one of it's main characters!
The story is all about Stella Star, a sexy space suit wearing woman who goes around with her sidekick on outlaw type adventures (think of her as a female han solo). On one particular escape, she loses her partner and is captured by the emperor of the universe, who then hires her to find his son and to destroy an evil man who has plans to destroy the rest of the universe.
The fun parts of the movie include a smack talking robot sheriff who is later teamed up with Stella Star, a bunch of action scenes with David Hasselhof, and of course the dramatic Star Crash at the end.
This is not a well acted movie, and the special effects are about as good as one can expect from a small budget foreign movie from the 1970's (in other words, they are pretty awful). Still, for science fiction fans, fans of David Haselhoff, and for those who have a thing for women in bikinis in space movies, this movie has something for you.
Before I forget. This movie has been rereleased on DVD as "Female Space Invaders". As of this writing, Amazon does keep the title in stock. So yes my friends, Stella Star is now available on DVD!

A Must-Have.......2005-12-21
I had to order this title from Amazon.UK and got it faster than the Amazon here in the states would have gotten it to me. It says that it was region 0 but when i put it into my dvd player, it said it was the wrong region. I emailed the Amazon.UK people and they sent me another copy and it was good to go. They even let me keep the original copy they sent me. The program was good and the content was fresh being that I never had heard the point of view from most of the people in it. The same 3 perfomance clips that most Holly fans are familiar with are included. I am totally satisfied with this product.
How to play the DVD on your computer.......2005-12-08
For those of you who bought the DVD believing it would play in the States, but found it won't. All may not be lost, IF you have a computer running the Windows XP OS AND it can play DVDs.
You need to reset the region from the default American and Canadian to the one for the UK, if your DVD is from the UK (or wherever it was manufactured.)
It's worth the effort, if your computer has the capability. Some DVD players will allow you to use PAL settings, but some will lock up horribly, so do use care.
Won't play on Region 1 DVD players (United States).......2005-12-06
Even though this DVD is supposedly coded for Region 0 (All) it doesn't work in my Sony DVP-NS315 coded for Region 1 (the United States) or on the DVD player in my computer. The DVD was manufactured in Argentina (I was execting it to be from the UK).
I was originally waiting for the U.S. version but it was never released on the date published (October '05) and now is simply listed as unavailable. Nice way for the American music industry to treat one of the true founding fathers of rock-n-roll.
Too bad...Buddy is awesome and the content would be great if I could view it!!!
