5 out of 5 stars I just want to pet the cows, Mama...........2004-10-19

This is one of the funniest movies that I have ever seen but then again, I have a warped sense of humor. The monster's name is Charles and when I first watched the movie, I couldn't understand a word he said. Several viewings later (it's addictive, ok?) I begin to understand clearly what Charles was saying.

One night, after he slaughtered an entire herd of cows, his mother asked him what he had to say for himself. Charles answers, "Sorry." It was the single, funniest word that I've ever heard in a movie. Totally ridiculous.

While this movie isn't for everyone, if you have a warped sense of humor, it just may be the at-home movie ticket for you.

2 out of 5 stars Faint praise. Very faint praise........2001-06-01

Teenage Monster is not a good movie. I bought it as an Anne Gwynne fan, hoping for a few campy midnight-movie chills. However, this movie is dull, and almost sad in its ineptitude. Where other movies can triumph despite limitations, this one's script is too poor, and not ambitious enough to be entertaining.

The liner notes explain many of the movie's problems; there were reasons why some talented people cranked out a movie this cruddy. One of its few virtues is good acting by Gwynne (even though she hatedhatedhated the film) as the Monster's mother and Gloria Castillo as the manipulative vixen who brings about the Monster's ultimate demise.

The Monster is unscary, played by a 50-year old man in boots to make him seem taller. And nearly all of his dialogue was re-dubbed as grunts and hoots to make him seem more like a bestial killer than a thinking being. This would be okay, except for the fact that sometimes he CAN talk reasonably well, just because the script needs him to convey a point. I could buy the dubious idea that the women close to him understood his gibberish, but the inconsistency grated on me.

Added to these glaring inconsistencies are the movie's stagnant direction and lack of creepy atmospherics. The sum total is kind of a bore.

A side note- It is called Meteor Monster almost everywhere on the web, but goes by its alternate title of Teenage Monster on the cover. This is somehow strangely fitting, as many of the people involved with this movie probably hope it stays hidden.

The DVD transfer is excellent. Trailers include Teenagers From Space, Robot Monster, Carnival of Souls, Giant From the Unknown, and Cosmic Man. They are the best part of the disc.

5 out of 5 stars Horror for the Whole Family.......2001-10-25

Don't buy this movie thinking that it will be some real thriller with a lot of blood and guts. It was released by Pulsepounders, a Canadian film company which produces family film horror.

Thouroughly entrenched in the PG range, this is more Goosebumps than Scream and that's a good thing for parents with kids into the horror genre.

A teenage boy uses his wits and the support of his family to save his town from a coven of Vampires. The special effects aren't great, the costumes aren't either, but it serves its purpose of edge-of-the-seat, while at the same time still safe, entertainment a parent can safely let their child watch without worrying it will warp them.

A killer party you won't forget! "Night of the Living Dead" meets "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" (with a stop-over for "Rock 'n' Roll High School") in this spoof of teenage monster movies, delinquency dramas, sports movies, and a brace of other film genres. When a group of high school underachievers get some bad weed from a dealer named Mussolini (Steve McCoy), the dealer dies and gets dumped in a river contaminated by nuclear waste. Quicker than you can say Three Mile Island, Mussolini is back, green-skinned and super-strong, killing the kids who did him in, ripping them apart one by one. "I Was a Teenage Zombie" is a genre-twister of a movie--one part teen exploitation flick, one part monster movie, and one part lunkhead comedy--the midnight movie to end them all!

5 out of 5 stars DESERVES AN 18TH ANNIVERSARY DVD SPECIAL EDITITON.......2006-03-25

THE YEAR IS 2006 AND IT'S TURNING 18-OLD-YEARS THIS YEAR SINCE IT WAS MADE IN 1987 AND IT DESERVES TO BE RE-RELEASED ON DVD WITH TONS OF SPECIAL FEATURES INCLUDING COMMENTARIES(ESP.A DIRECTOR'S COMMENTARY SINCE HE QUIT DIRECTING AND BECAME A MONK AFTERWARDS),DELETED SCENES,INTERVIEWS WITH MAINLY EVERY SINGLE ACTOR THAT APPEARED IN THE MOVIE,TRAILERS,MAKING OF FEATURETTE,AND TONS OF OTHER GREAT STUFF. THE MOVIE IS AN ABSOLUTELY CLASSIC INDIE FLICK THAT WAS VERY FUNNY AND MADE THE WAY IT WANTED IT TO BE MADE,EVEN IF THE BUDGET WAS LOW AND THE ACTING STUNK. PLEASE CRITERION,ANCHOR BAY,OR SYNAPSE RELEASE A GOOD DVD OF THIS CLASSIC MOVIE. ITS ONE OF MY FAVORITES AND I WATCHED AND RECORDED IT EVERYTIME IT WAS ON IFC AND RENTED IT AT SOME VIDEO STORE.

PS:
DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHAT THE BUDGET WAS FOR THIS MOVIE AND WHERE IT WAS FILMED,I THINK IT WAS FILMED IN SAN FRANCISCO OR HOUSTON.

PSSSSS:
IS THERE A WAY WE CAN RE-RELEASE THE OLD CD OR CASSETTE OF THE SONGS IN THE MOVIE. I LOVED THE SONGS IN THIS FILM AND IT WOULD BE COOL TO HEAR THEM AGAIN. MY FAVORITE SONG WAS THE ONE SUNG BY THE FLESHTONES THAT WENT "I WAS A TEENAGE ZOMBIE".

5 out of 5 stars FUNNY AS HELL!.......2006-03-13

This movie looks like it was filmed with a camcorder! I didn't realize, when I purchased this DVD, that it was going to be a total amateurish delight! I mean the editing is even horrible, the sound doesn't match up! The acting is atrocious! The storyline is pathetic! I LOVE IT! There's a scene where the Hispanic, zombie, drug-dealer rapes a hapless teenage girl to death! He breaks her body in half and all she says is "You can't do thaaaaaaaaaat!" In another hilarious scene a cop, who is hot on the trial of the zombie drug peddler, gets punched in the forehead and sort of has a 2 second delayed reaction to the pain. Then he falls backward and screams like a dying duck! Oh, I'm telling you buy this movie! If you love watching horrible actors not totally devoted to their parts, this one is for you!

5 out of 5 stars HALARIOUS! ONE OF MY NEW HORROR FAVES!!!.......2005-07-13

I was a teenage zombie...when i purchased this movie i didn't know what to expect...I was EXTREMELY IMPRESSED, the movie is funny and it has mild gore (due to image entertainment's editing crew). I would highly recommend buying this movie if you have some extra cash, if u like movies like Evil Dead 2, Bad Taste, or Evil Ed this is definatly one to put in your collection. Anyways to let you know all horror films i've bought that image entertainment has released has cut out a lot of the gore scenes. I probably would next expect to see this movie re-released by a different company due to lack of popularity and peoples lack of humor.

3 out of 5 stars Funny spoof of zombie movies ruined by poor video quality.......2005-01-18

I Was a Teenage Zombie is a really funny spoof of those 1950s monster films and zombie films. A drug dealer is accidentally killed by teens and then the teens throw him in the river where a nuclear liquid brings him back as a zombie and then he starts revenge. The video release is poor because the movie skips a lot even if you clean the VCR. Please release this one on a new DVD with special features(Commentaries, deleted scenes) because the VHS/DVD versions are horrendous. This one deserves a Special Edition DVD for fans of this spoof.

4 out of 5 stars I was a teenager impressed.......2003-12-28

The minute this movie starts with a long shot of a lake and the hilariously bad rockabilly/swingin' song "I Was a Teenage Zombie" (by the Fleshtones), you know you're in for a treat. There is a Mexican pimp selling some bad weed, and he is just amazing. In one scene, he rips a guy's face off and says, "Yeah, I'm the weedman! I got some WEED!" I was rolling on the floor laughing. One of the characters changes into a baseball uniform JUST to hit another character in the head with a baseball bat and then changes back in the next shot. It's all very humorous. I'm guessing the people who gave this a bad rating were expecting a Fulci classic or something.

3 out of 5 stars A treat for bad movies fans only.......2004-02-19

Well, it's nice of the folks at Image to re-release a lot of its genre films in these very affordable 2-packs. If you don't already own either of these films, it's a good deal. If you already have TEENAGERS FROM OUTER SPACE, don't bother with this...because TEENAGE MONSTER is simply awful, even by "bad movies" standards.

But let's take the good first. TEENAGERS FROM OUTER SPACE is one of those rare drive-in sci-fi flicks that thrives on its low budget and wooden cast. A space-faring bunch of alien teens plots to take over the earth, but one of them falls for an earth gal. There's plenty of surprisingly effective ray-gun action and campy dialogue along the way. If you know the film's reputation, you might enjoy analyzing all the reportedly homosexual subtext that openly-gay director Tom Graff threw in. Really, if you like this kind of film, you could do much worse.

Like, you could willingly give away 65 minutes of your life to TEENAGE MONSTER. The movie starts off promisingly enough--in an Ed Wood sort of way--as a sparkler on a wire stands in for a meteor crashing to earth, exposing a kid to radiation and killing his father. Seven years later, that kid is like a 50 year old man with a Grizzly Addams beard who grunts and kills people. Oh, there's an attempt at a plot involving his protective mother and a blackmailing local woman...but trust me, you won't care.

It's a shame to see talented folks like the lovely Anne Gwynne and one of the final makeup jobs by the legendary Jack Pierce wasted in this mess.

Recommended ONLY for Teenagers From Outer Space.
