Hell hath no fury like the wrath of a Luxan, as these two episodes of Farscape illustrate. In "Back and Back and Back to the Future," the giant warrior D'Argo falls for a sharp-eyed beauty who arrives on Moya with a scientist after barely escaping the unexplained collapse of their ship. That mystery may also explain Crichton's short jaunts into the near future, which the episode weaves so inventively into the fabric of the narrative that both he and we become momentarily lost in the myriad of possible futures. D'Argo's chest-thumping alpha-male aggression runs right into the opening of "Thank God It's Friday... Again," where he hunts Crichton in a hormonal rage before jetting down to the planet to cool off. He accomplishes that and more; when the crew finds him he's a gentle giant full of inner peace, hearty bear hugs, and a sudden desire to remain in the agrarian society. Crichton meanwhile uncovers a conspiracy that explains the explosiveness of Rigel's bodily fluids and the preternatural complacency of this cultlike civilization of far-flung flower children. This installment is a more conventional tale than most, reverberating with echoes of Star Trek episodes ("This Side of Paradise" in particular), though it's loaded with ironies uniquely resonant in this series, culminating with the most inventive secret weapon the series has yet come up with.

Each episode includes footage unseen in the U.S. broadcasts, and the DVD features a profile of Virginia Hey's blue-skinned priestess, Zhaan, as well as commentary on each episode. Star Ben Browder (Crichton) and episode director Rowan Woods team up for the commentary track on Back and Back... while Anthony Simcoe (D'Argo) joins producer and co-creator Rockne S. O'Bannon for Thank God.... --Sean Axmaker

Description

"Back and Back and Back to the Future" - After rescuing two aliens from their disintegrating ship, Crichton and D'Argo fall victim to effects brought on by the presence of the alien female. Soon, Crichton experiences "future flashes" where she attacks him, both sexually and fatally. Is Crichton losing his mind? Or does he now, mysteriously, have the gift of prophecy? "Thank God It's Friday...Again" - When Moya's crew follows D'Argo to the planet Sykar, they find a strange, almost Utopian society centered around a certain plant. But the world's happy veneer is ripped away when Crichton is assaulted, Rygel's body becomes explosive and D'Argo and Zhaan become pleasure-seeking cult members. As the true purpose of the plant and the planet are revealed, Crichton finds the Uncharted Territories to which they've escaped are not as uncharted as they seemed.

4 out of 5 stars D'Argo takes center stage.......2004-10-02

In "Back and Back...," Crichton (Ben Browder) and company rescue a scientist and his assistant from their imploding spacecraft. In the process, Crichton begins to suffer from time flashes wherein he experiences the future, thereby becoming aware that the mysterious assistant has a deadly secret. There is a lot of good characterization here and a tantalizing hint at D'Argo's (Anthony Simcoe) past. I like the way that so many Farscape episodes turn on Crichton's disarming manner of just leveling with other characters and telling them the truth rather than contriving unlikely deceptions to resolve plot points.

"Thank God..." is another good D'Argo episode. This time he has inexplicably decided to settle down and live as a field worker on an agrarian planet. Suspecting that something is not quite right, Crichton and the others investigate, finding that the planet has an unsettling connection to an old enemy.

I love this show. As good as these episodes are, there is much better to come.

5 out of 5 stars Exploring a Different Uncharted Territory.......2003-07-22

The pilot episode of Farscape lets us know these stories take place in the Uncharted Territories. But starting with the episodes featured on this disc, we see that these uncharted territories include the souls of Moya and her crew.

"Back and Back and Back to the Future" pierces the gruff exterior of D'Argo as a mysterious femme fatale named Natala ensnares the warrior's heart. Unfortunately, Crichton starts having visions of himself with Natala which become progressively more disasterous. Not only do we start to see more of D'Argo's vulnerablility, but we're also treated to a well-designed, time-travelling head trip.

"Thank God It's Friday, Again" has D'Argo on an alien world, but after just three days the gang finds he has traded his soldier's weapons for a famer's tools. Though he seems blissfully content with his new life, things start to spiral out of control with Zhaan slipping into the same blind happiness as D'Argo, an apparent attempt on Rygel's life, Crichton's abduction by a rebel force, and the slow realization that this paradise is intimately linked to one of the galaxy's greatest threats. This is one of Farscape's best episodes, not only for it's wonderful visual appeal, but also for the way it expands our understanding of the characters. A wistful D'Argo confides in Zhaan that this experience echoes some of his long-held dreams. Aeryn reaches beyond her Peacekeeper-imposed blinders as she and Pilot must work together, not in military maneuvers, but in the more cerebral world of science as she struggles to find out what has happened to Rygel. And to top it all of, we have Angie Milliken's beautifully disturbing portrayal as the planet's ruler, Volmay. (Plus the infamous "She gives me a woody" line.)

Each episode offers a commentary: The first, featuring Ben Browder and director Rowan Woods, draws attention to the directorial choices made such as camera angles and set design. The second features Anthony Simcoe and series creator Rockne O'Bannon and gives a glimpse into the Australian influences on Farscape. The character profile features Pa'u Zotoh Zhaan, which seems odd as these two episodes spend a lot of time on D'Argo, but you won't catch me complaining. The Delvian has always been a favorite of mine and it was interesting to hear Virginia Hey's take on the character she embodies. (And embodies is the word: during the interview she completely forgot she was wearing prosthetics at the time!) Zhaan's still gallery has some beautiful shots, though the posing in a few seem overly dramatic. The conceptual drawings are fascinating, though it would have been nice to have some captions. It took a while to realize that some of the aliens depicted were actually Tavleks featured in "Throne for a Loss" from the _previous_ disc.

As O'Bannon explains, each of the characters starts off as a standard sci-fi stereotype. The beauty of Farscape is that it then leaves those cliches behind, delving into these wonderfully realized characters.

5 out of 5 stars D'Argo's Time To Shine.......2003-03-21

After finding himself [pulled through] through a wormhole and thrust into the depths of space that neither he nor any human before him had envisioned, Astronaut John Crichton finds himself confronted with Worlds beyond comprehension. In what seems like mere moments he finds himself aboard a living vessel named Moya with a group of escaped convicts trying desperately to outrun a race called the Peacekeepers and their leader whose brother Crichton accidentally caused to perish. In order to escape these forces, the crew of Moya are forced to head into the Uncharted Territories, knowing that they will be followed but that at least the pull of the Peacekeepers isn't a strong as it is elsewhere. Yes, space isn't what it seems.

In these two episodes from the first season, we find D'Argo, a creature from a warrior race with tendrils sprouting from both the top of his head and his chin, as our focal point.
In the first piece, "Back and Back and Back to the Future," the crew of Moya decide to rescue a couple of aliens from their ship that seems to be disintegrating. One of those on board, a female, seems to have some strange allure over both Crichton and D'Argo, putting D'Argo at odds with the human and jealous of what the other members of the crew think. Added to this is the fact that Crichton starts to have flashes of the future, and it seems that this future contains elements that don't seem to lead anywhere but demise.

To me, this episode was a worthwhile one that had some hidden portions within the plot and that played with the mind of the ever-maddening human as he tries to cope with the oddities of space. Its also interesting to see how he thinks he can change things like so many others would only to see that lead to an even worse fate over and over again, making him wonder if he's simply going mad, if things can be changed if he's not, and why he had to end up with such an unwelcome gift in the first place.

In the next episode, "Thank God Its Friday - Again," D'Argo finds himself possessed by something called Hyper Rage, making him aggressive toward any male he sees as a challenge to him, and Crichton finds himself hiding for three days until, at last, D'Argo decides to leave Moya and head for the planet Sykar. When the crew decides to go in search of him, they find him at peace within himself and the society he's found there, happy with the lifestyle of hard work and partying that this allows. Other problems soon begin to manifest as Rygel's bodily fluids become explosive for some reason and Zhaan seems to be overcome by whatever is influencing D'Argo.

This is also an episode I found rather enjoyable because a few things happen here that explain the ways that some societies fuel other ones, and the way that oppression can be elation depending on how its presented. It also places Crichton in some precarious situations when it comes to staying alive, and shows the duality of some of the crew and the bonds that begin to form between some of them; even the ex-Peacekeeper and the Pilot that once despised all their kind.

For anyone that hasn't looked into Farscape yet, I would suggest going back to the Premiere DVD, watching it, and allowing yourself be hooked by the storyline and the characters being developed therein. The dialogue is of the greatest of qualities and only gets better as the show progresses, the individuals that are chasing and the people fleeing are all interesting and the events of today create the rippling effects of tomorrow, plus there is a point to everything taking place. The creative team that developed it should be commended and recommended highly, at least in this viewer's book.

4 out of 5 stars Crichton saves the day not once, but twice.......2003-01-24

I am a "Farscape" neophyte working their way through Season 1 and it seems clear to me that Volume 3 is where this science fiction series starts clicking as the characters start to emerge with some complexity and the stories fit this point in the saga. The common denominator here is that human John Crichton (Ben Browder) gets to save the day to the relief, if not the surprise, of his new crewmates.

"Back and Back and Back to the Future" is, as the title suggests, a time travel tale in which Crichton becomes unstuck in time. The fun here is decoding when Crichton has flashed forward and when he is back in the present, and, of course, his attempts to convince the others that he is telling the truth and not gone insane. This is the best episode of the series so far, not only because there it is well thought out but also because there are some key moments regarding character interaction and revelation.

"Thank God It's Friday..Again" is too reminiscent of the "Star Trek" episode where Spock gets pollinated and is happy for a while to really be a standout episode. However, there is a standout performance by a guest star as the leader of the shiny happy people. Once again, the best parts of the episode have to do with the character interaction, particularly between Aeryn (Claudia Black) and Rygel (Jonathan Hardy) as well as Zhaan (Virginia Hey) and D'Argo (Anthony Simcoe).

One of the things that is most commendable about "Farscape" is that these DVDs are extremely fan friendly. All of the episodes (so far) offer commentary tracks by a rotating pair of cast and crewmembers. This time around it is actor Browder and director Rowan Woods on "Back and Back and Back to the Future" and actor Simcoe and series creator Rockne S. O'Bannon on "Thank God It's Friday...Again." Having the tag team commentary works well and the talk is usually about the series and the characters overall as well as the individual characters.

There is also a video profile of a "Farscape" character on each disc and this time around it is the turn of Virginia Hey and Pa'u Zotoh Zhaan, the most fascinating alien of the current media generation. Then there is the fact that there is deleted footage that was not broadcast in North America, which is meaningless to me because I do not know what it was I did not see the first time around when I did not see it in the first place.

5 out of 5 stars Two Good Episodes.......2002-08-14

"Back and Back and Back to the Future" is an episode where Crichton is able to experience the future, then return back to the present when things go wrong (like he gets killed). As he corrects certain things, he is able to move forward in the present. The story of this episode has been seen before, but it is enjoyable all the same.

The second episode here is "Thank God It's Friday, Again". This episode takes place on a planet where every day is a work day, every night is a huge party with the promise that tomorrow is a rest day. However, when tomorrow becomes today, the cycle is repeated. The people are slaves to a plant which they cultivate. The plant works like a narcotic on most of the people. Some are able to resist and others with the help of a worm implanted in them can resist as well. Crichton is given such a worm and soon learns the secret of the plant and this planet. The plant is used by the Peacekeepers as it fuels their energy weapons and the planet is a giant storage facility for them.

If you've never seen Farscape, this is a well-written show and worth watching.

4 out of 5 stars More of what you've come to expect from farscape.......2007-02-23

Farscape has always been the anti-Star Trek and the disk are no exception. Everybody has really strong personalities and are always butting heads with each other. Some of the scenarios are unique while others are very cliched but handled in a quirky way that makes them feel new and interesting.

In "Different Destinations" while visiting the site of one of the great battles in Sebation history, Chrichton and friends get transported to the past and get to live through the actual battle. The episode reminds me a bit of "Army of Darkness" with Crichton and Aeryn fighting to save a castle under siege. And, true to Farscape form, while trying not to disturb the past and therefore upset the future, the crew manage to get a key war hero killed before he can fulfill his destiny, leaving them and theur friends in the present in a heap of trouble.

In the aptly named "Eat Me," a madman who likes eating people's brains and a group of Sebation scavengers with the mentality of animals are on board and doing major damage to a Leviathan with a Peacekeeper control collar. Imagine if Hannibal Lector were written by the Farscape crew, and you might have some idea of what this guy's like. This episode also witnesses the death of not one but TWO of Moya's crew. Well, sort of.

In "Thanks for Sharing," there are two Crichtons. All testing indicates that they are identical. No original, no clone. They play rock-paper-scissors for hours, always ending in a tie. And Crichton finally begins to get why the others find him annoying at times when he starts to get on his own nerves. Meanwhile Moya's offspring Talyn is getting himself in trouble again, and Aeryn's mother Xhalax Sun is heading the Peacekeeper retrieval squad sent after Talyn.

The second and third episodes on this disk are key episodes in this season. If you skip ahead before watching these you will get lost.

Overall I'd say these episodes are typical Farscape. Nothing here is outstanding but it is all very enjoyable.

1 out of 5 stars description not right.......2005-09-04

While the eps themselves are delightful, as always, the description for this particular DVD is not right. This DVD is Volume 1. The description, however, is for Collection 1. Big difference! Vol. 1 has only the first two eps on it. I knew this already but was in a hurry when I purchased this disk and didn't notice the discrepancy between the product and its description. Buyers be aware of this!

4 out of 5 stars The Third Season of Separation and Death begins here.......2003-10-26

At the end of the second season of "Farscape" John Crichton (Ben Browder) was on an operating table with the top of his skull off as Scorpius (Wayne Pygram) has interrupted the surgery to remove the neural chip from his brain and Aeryn Sun (Claudia Black) was killed when she was trapped in her ejector chair that crashed into the freezing water on the planet below. Little did we know that the themes of death and seaparation were going to be so powerfully strong during the third season, but we get a few hints on Volume 1, which has the first two episodes:

Episode 301, "Season of Death" (Written by Richard Manning, Aired March 16, 2001) has the good news that Scorpius' neural chip has finally been removed from Chrichton outweighed by the fact he can not speak, a "clone" of the personality of Scorpius remains in his mind, and Aeryn is dead awaiting a Peacekeeper's funeral. Although Moya's crew makes a series of touching farewells to Officer Sun, Zhaan (Virginia Hey) has an idea. On the one hand bringing back the leading lady of the series from the dead was a bit too easy, but on the other it is clear in retrospect that we are being set up for a series of much more permanent demises by the end of the season (Four Wormholes).

Episode 302, "Suns and Lovers" (Written by Justin Monjo, Aired March 23, 2001), as the title indicates, is a pun on the infamous D.H. Lawrence novel and on target because the lovers end up being Chiana (Gigi Edgley) and Jothee, son of D'Argo (Anthony Simcoe). The main plot has to do with Moya's crew heading to a Commerce Station to spend their spoils, but a violent storm of unnatural origin hits the station. This episode strikes me as more clearing of the decks in terms of stamping out D'Argo's brief period of happiness, which does not strike me as being particularly necessary, although Chiana's motivations for the betrayal are a nice character touch (3 Wormholes).

These early episodes from Season 3 are transitional stories that resolve or reset many of the elements from the previous season. But they also set the stage for the two dominant themes of this third season, both of which will be brought home with some of the show's most powerful episodes.

    4 out of 5 stars Mmm, Farscape.......2003-07-27

I'm not sure what the reviewer before me is talking about; this is DVD 3.1, and you do get the first four episodes of season three. Great episodes, and mostly they look wonderful on DVD, but in places the transfer seems grainy. Still, a fabulous collection of episodes, from a show that ended much too soon.

    Description

    "Relativity"

The Peacekeeper Retrieval Squad lead by Aeryn's mother, Xhalax Sun, traces Talyn to a Jungle Planet where the gunship is recuperating. When Crichton, Aeryn and Crais divert the squad away from the gunship, they surmise that Talyn might not be the Peacekeepers' only target. Aeryn realizes that the pursuit of Talyn will not stop until Xhalax is dead.

    "Incubator"

With his wormhole research stalling, Scorpius inserts the original "neurochip" into his own brain. He shows the "Crichton Clone" his brutal upbringing at the hands of the Scarrans, hoping to persuade him to decode the wormhole equations. Meanwhile, a defecting Peacekeeper scientist offers the real Crichton the secret of wormhole travel in exchange for Moya.

    5 out of 5 stars Scorpius Unveiled.......2003-10-31

This DVD contains Episodes 310 and 311.
I won't say much about Episode 310, other than Aeryn's mother, Xhalax Sun, giving it a soap opera feel (I just don't know which to compare it with: "Another World" or "One Life To Live"?) The Colartan mercenaries make it worth watching, however.
Episode 311 is where it's at. It's what we've all been waiting for -- the answer to many of our questions about Scorpius, such as, "Why in Hades do the Peacekeepers put up with a half-breed officer when they are otherwise so uptight about Sebacean purity?" The amazing thing about this episode (and what makes this DVD worth buying) is that you may actually find yourself feeling sympathy for Scorpius, if only for a moment. On a grander scale, the Scarrans really drive home the point that there are bigger and badder menaces out there than the Peacekeepers.
Farscape shines the most when it delves into the interspecies politics of the its universe (as opposed to when it starts to resemble "Days of Our Lives," like in the first episode on this disc).

5 out of 5 stars Don't let the previous poor reviews fool you..........2003-09-22

These two episodes are very well worth owning.
ADV Films Farscape releases for season three have confused even the most ardent Farscape fan. The "volume" generally has two episodes as opposed to the usual four or five that you'd find on a "collection". Just remember you get what you pay for. On Amazon, it's usually around $30 for a "collection" and around $17 for a two episode volume.

"Relativity" is a 'Talyn episode.' In this ep, the fugitives Crichton, Aeryn, Crais, and Talyn are being pursued by Aeryn's Peacekeeper mother, Xhalax Sun. (And may I just mention, Aeryn and John are finally...'together', warming the hearts of shippers everywhere!)
Xhalax and her Retrieval Squad manage to track the crew down when they land on a planet to give Talyn a chance to rest and heal from injuries. Farscapian mayhem ensues, wherein Crichton stakes Crais out like a sacrificial goat, we discover Rygel really DOESN'T have an unselfish bone in his body, and Crais executes Xhalax (or does he?!). And the tag scene between Crichton and Aeryn is definitely worth sticking around for.

"Incubator" is a 'Moya episode.' Well, it's actually more of a Scorpius episode, though the Moya crew features. In this ep, we learn a lot about Scorpius' wormhole research and how far he's come. Which is to say, he can make wormholes, but his pilots always turn to goo when they come back.
Trying to figure out where his research is going wrong, he questions the 'Crichton' contained in the neural chip (Scorpy's got his very own Harvey!). Trying to convince this Crichton-echo to give him wormhole equations, Scorpius reveals scenes from his past. This episode contains some harsh subject matter, including rape and torture. Not for the little 'uns.
Scorpius is the most fleshed-out and well-rounded 'villians' I have ever encountered in fiction. This episode simply adds another dimension to an already amazing character. If you love Scorpius (and even if you don't) "Incubator" is a must-see.

1 out of 5 stars Wait for Collection 5.......2003-09-05

The original advertisment listed the last episodes of season 3. Instead Volume 5 contains 2 episodes included with Volume 3.3.

1 out of 5 stars Not what you think it is.......2003-09-03

The Description listed indicates that it contains Episode 319 through 322. IT DOES NOT! Instead it contains two episodes, "Relativity" and "Incubator". I would hazard a guess the the description on the web site is for COLLECTION FIVE (to be released later in the year) and not Vol 5 that is being sold.

1 out of 5 stars This is NOT collection five for season 3 (3.5)!!!.......2003-08-24

This DVD has incorrect information listed on the website. It is not a double DVD with the listed episodes. It is a single DVD with two episodes: Relativity and Incubator.

    4 out of 5 stars Meltdown + Scratch 'N Sniff.......2003-10-30

You could just wait until next year and buy the whole boxed set of Season 3 (which is worth having), but I couldn't wait another minute - I buy the eps as soon as they are released.

Episode 312 may interest you because the 'aliens of the week' are a duo that taps into classic mythological themes. If the budding romance between Aeryn and one of the Crichtons is what turns your crank, then this episode is for you; it bored the dren out of me, and the frelling cheesy jazz that accompanied the costars' horniness helped to make this ep look shallow (especially if one remembers the energy between Gilina & Crichton in 'PK Tech Girl'). Yup, a little bit of sexuality is part of most sci-fi, but when a TV series starts to overplay that card, it's at the expense of time that could be spent further revealing the universe in which the characters live. I'm a Scaper, but that doesn't justify giving every episode 5 stars.
The highlight of Episode 312 was Stark's streak of initiative and freewill...

Episode 313 is totally untamed, unlike any previous episode (except maybe 'Won't Get Fooled Again'). While some may not care for its decadent, footloose style, I feel that it was refreshing to see how far the show could be pushed in certain directions. A night out on the town can bring out a side of your friends that you rarely see! The humor implemented in Episode 313 is unique to the series up to this point, and really throws the viewer off balance by showing most of the characters in a different light, and through its creative splicing of the camera and audio work. The bad guys are finally no more than a couple of geeks dressed in clubby clothing. It is also wild to see how Crichton interacts with Francesca Buller, his real-life wife, who plays a truly annoying character named Raxil. This IS a 5 star ep, and it's a great one to watch with your friends and a round of drinks (with umbrellas in them).

The extras include a 17+ minute interview with Gigi Edgley and a far too short one with Guy Gross, the man who comes up with the music that perfectly fits the scenes of this now legendary show.

    5 out of 5 stars I LOVE FARSCAPE!.......2003-07-20

I have yet to find an episode of Farscape that I don't enjoy. There are some really great ones, but all of them are good.

    I recommend Farscape to everyone!
    SAVE FARSCAPE!

4 out of 5 stars starts to pick up again in season 3.......2003-06-04

3.1 and 3.2 are both quality boxes and the show seems to be pulling me in again (like the first season did), with more "space scenes" and some darker episodes with more battles. The stories seem to be a little more cohesive this season as well with less holes. There were a few in season 2 along with a couple bores. Also, there are more edible stand-alone stories (especially in 3.2).

Kreis is becoming a good character, Scorpius got a little old (and confusing) though sometimes his character is interesting and complicated enough to draw me in. I'm not sure why, but the absence of Zhan may be a good thing. Aeryn is so effin hot, her straps carried the show for me at times, and the leather pants are Millimeters lower this season. yeehaw.

2 out of 5 stars What a disappointment!! What are they thinking??.......2003-05-26

One of the big attractions of the Farscape series has been the imaginative plots and the off-beat characters. But it seems that TV Sci-Fi is always destined to follow the failings of that Grand Mother of Them ALL (Star Trek) which only lasted a few seasons, let us not forget. The series is descending into shoot-em-ups, stuff that's been done (being swallowed up by a cave-like monster - now what movie did I see that in?), and sadomasichism (Eat Me is revolting).

In the 'What Are They Thinking Of' department the award goes to substituting JOOL (a truly annoying character that can get vaporized at any time as far as I am concerned - she rates in there with Jar-Jar) for ZHAAN (a wonderful creation who balanced off the craziness of the others and kept the series from what it is heading for now ).

Will they never learn? I am not surprised to hear that the series is headed for cancellation. From now on I'll rent it out of curiosity, but I'm probably not going to watch it more than once. My advice: If you're not sure, rent it first from Netflix.

5 out of 5 stars Ben Browder Commentary on Green Eyed Monster.......2003-05-26

Although it is not listed here on Amazon, or even on the back of the DVD case, on the episode "Green Eyed Monster" (the episode which star Ben Browder wrote) there is an audio commentary track with Ben Browder as well as the director of the episode Tony Tilse. Ben gives insights into his ideas behind the episode, as well as many behind-the-scenes hints about not only this episode but upcoming ones as well.

(The powers-that-be on the show were so impressed with Ben Browder's writing on this ep that he was asked to write another episode, which will be coming up in season 4, called "John Quixote")

I would buy this DVD without any extras, as this series is so fantastic. However, as I am something of a "commentary junkie", I wanted to pass on the info to the other Amazon customers.

5 out of 5 stars Double Your Fun!.......2003-05-12

The makers of Farscape, not afraid to take chances, truly had outdone themselves. Fresh after losing a beloved character (Zhaan) and gaining a new passenger aboard Moya (Jool), David Kemper and the writers keep the surprises coming. Like a boxer delivering a flurry of punches to a dazzed opponent, the viewer is constantly being rocked by pleasantly surprising (sometimes uncomfortable too) storylines.

Different Destinations: Has a bit of a Star Trek feel to it, as John, Areyn & Jool are visting a memorial, are somehow transported into the past. They find themselves in the time which the memorial was dedicated. In a small Peacekeeper settlement surrounded and out numbered by the Venek horde. Unsure how to get back and trying to help the beleagured settlement, their actions are changing past and present times.
A solid episode if not spectacular episode, though the performances are, as usual, quite good.

Eat Me: Crichton, D'Argo, Chianna, & Jool in their damaged transport pod are trying to return to Moya, find another Leviathon. Hoping to find the parts necessary to repair the pod they take a chance and land. What they find aboard is truly disturbing. A very good episode that is quite scary by Farscape standards, with an ending that is amusing, confusing and leaves you wondering where the hell are they gonna go with this idea?

Thanks For Sharing: Moya catches up with Talyn only to find him badly damaged from an attack by a Peacekeeper retrieval unit. Moya's crew goes to a nearby planet trying to obtain supplies to help heal Talyn's wounds. What they find is political intrigue and the identity of the Captain leading the retrieval unit after Talyn & Crais. Another suprise that leaves the viewer with several questions and anxiously awaiting for the answers. A solid episode that is the foundation, along with "Eat Me", for the rest of season 3.

Note: The last two episodes on this disc, the crew is seperated into two groups. One group stays aboard Moya while the other joins Crais aboard Talyn.

Green Eyed Monster: The first episode written by Ben Browder, starts with the gunship, Talyn, and it's crew of Crais, Areyn, and Crichton encontering a live Budong. For those not in the know, a Budong is sort of a giant space whale. Before they can react, Talyn is swallowed whole by this huge creature. Meanwhile, Rygel and Stark are in a transport pod heading to a rondezvous with Talyn. They only find the Budong, which Stark correctly surmised, has Talyn within it. The real meat of the story is the character development between Crais, John, Areyn - and yes - Talyn. Lani Tapu as Crais especially shines in this episode. One of the best episodes of the 3rd season.

Losing Time: A form of energy gets aboard Moya and finds refuge within the body of one of the crew. Shortly afterwards, another energy being comes and enters Pilot's body. This being informs the crew that one of them is being controlled by an energy rider, a criminal that must be stopped. The being within Pilot has been hunting it and asks for help in capturing it. This episode was the least remarkable one by Farscape standards, meaning well above average by normal TV standards.

In this review I tried not to give away the major surprises. To those unfamiliar with the show or haven't seen these episodes, I can only say that I heartily recommend you purchase this set and every other Farscape DVD. Its money well spent in anyones Sci-Fi DVD library.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars One classic and two pivotal Season 3 "Farscape" episodes.......2003-11-04

First, to be clear on what you will find on Volume 3 of Season 3 of "Farscape," it is episodes 5, 6 and 7, not 8 and 9, which are on Volume 4. At this point in the season the successful attempt to bring Aeryn back from the dead has cost Zhaan her life, and Moya's crew now has to carry out without the blue skinned priestess:

Episode 5, "... Different Destinations" (Written by Steve Worland, First Aired April 13, 2001) is one of the most emotionally devastating "Farscape" episodes ever, which is really saying something. While visiting a memorial that honors the peace treaty made between the Peacekeepers and the Venek Horde a temporal rift opens and Crichton, Aeryn, D'Argo and Jool are pulled back in time to when the monastary was the scene of the great siege. As they try to stay alive and get back to their own time, Crichton and the others realize that every thing they do is changing the course of history, with profound effects (which the rest of the crew on Moya in the "present" can see as the planet below them changes). Crichton desperately tries to find a way to make everything right again while Aeryn learns the truth about a famous Peacekeeper hero and D'Argo befriends a young girl. Far warning: you will be emotionally drained by the end of this one, a classic example of how great time travel stories can be when written intelligently. (5+ Wormholes)

"Eat Me" (Written by Matt Ford, April 20, 2001) finds Crichton, Chaina, D'Argo and Jool landing on an old, diseased Leviathan when their Transport Pod is damaged. Since the Leviathan wears a Peacekeeper Control Collar the gang is on the lookout for Peacekeepers, but instead all they find are mutant scavengers and Kaarvok, a madman who likes to eat brain matter and who has the power to "twin" any living being. This he does to D'Argo, Chaina, and Crichton. Meanwhile, Aeryn, Rygel and Stark discover a beaten and battered Talyn drifting through space, along with an unconscious Crais. At first this seems like a "road not taken" episode where the crew encounters a Leviathan carrying their less fortunate counterparts. But "Eat Me" ends with what ends up being the most significant plot develop during Season 3. (5 Wormholes)

"Thanks For Sharing" (Written by Clayvon C. Harris, First Aired June 15, 2001) has Crichton going crazy trying to figure out which one of him is the original and which the clone. Meanwhile, when D'Argo, Chiana and Rygel head down to Kanvia to pick up some Chromextin, a healing drug for the ailing Talyn, they become embroiled in local politics. Then there is the bombshell that Crais drops on Aeryn regarding her mother and the circumstances of her conception. The news is rather pertinent because it is Xhalax Sun that is commanding the Peacekeeper Retrieval Squad that attacked Talyn. Consequently, there are a whole lot of "to be continued" elements for Season 3 introduced in this episode. (4 Wormholes)

This is one of the stellar discs in the "Farscape" collection. The first episode is an absolute classic, and the other two are pivotal in establishing the major story arc of Season 3, which explored the themes of separation and death in some depth.
