Description
Gasp at four stellar stories featuring Starman, the back-flipping martial arts superhero who flies through space, clobbers bad guys, chases flying saucers and keeps the world safe from a wide range of outrageous aliens and monsters in Attack from Space, Evil Brain from Outer Space, Invaders from Space and Atomic Rulers! Then Goliath and the Dragon pits the fabled strongman against a fire-spewing three-headed doggie, a giant bat monster, a centaur and his foe Eurystheus' pet dragon while Heracles visits the futuristic remains of Atlantis to battle an evil wizard and an army of gold-skinned reanimated dead guys in The Conqueror of Atlantis! And it's more mythological madness in Hercules Against the Moon Men when a fiery meteor brings aliens who demand human sacrifices, leaving Hercules to confront them along with a gorilla-like beast with gigantic fangs, the Moon Men's "huge, deformed rock-like creatures" and an evil queen's spike-covered torture machine. And finally, Scottish villagers believe an innocent woman is the reincarnation of a witch once burned at the stake, and only Maciste can set things right by going to Hell # literally! # in The Witch's Curse! It's an eight-course festival of fighting, flying and futuristic frenzy for the whole family!

3 out of 5 stars Old sci-fi entertaining movies.......2006-03-20

These films have the fancy imagination of the 50 and 60's, when the archaic special effects were not yet submitted to the law of physics, so the plot seems nicer like an old Flash Gordon comic. Starman is now the invincible hero, that flies as Superman, to save the Earth from evil invaders, and with his "special fight" always defeacts the enemies. There are also two nice kids that add attraction to the story and, of course, the invading army acts like fascists. I must say I got these sci-fi DVDs from a SWV pack, with another four sword&sandle titles, in fact some forgotten old jewels rescued from the 60's.

4 out of 5 stars A Joyous Mess.......2004-02-02

If youýre a fan of Something Weird Video, or a fan of b-movies, then thereýs no reason not to buy this 4 disc set featuring 8 movies and tons of extras. Starman is a cheap Japanese superhero that looks like Arthur from The Tick. This is bad sci-fi at its best. Starman Vol.1 features Attack from Space and Evil Brain from Outer Space. Attack from Space is, in my opinion, the more enjoyable of these two films. This time Starman, who hails from the Emerald Planet, is fighting Space Nazis. The second disc contains the movies Invaders from Space and Atomic Rulers, both totally useless and unimaginably fun. If I had to recommend Starman to anybody, Iýd recommend it to fans of the early Gamera movies since both share simplistic storylines and feature children aiding the hero. The next disc contains Hercules Against the Moon Men and The Witchýs Curse; two enjoyable Italian sword and sandal movies. The hero is called Maciste in his native Italy and is featured in over a dozen titles. Hercules Against the Moon Men is a camp classic that is available on lots of cheapie public domain video labels but none look as nice as the Something Weird Video version contained in this set. The final disc is Goliath and the Dragon, which is possibly the least enjoyable movie in the box. However, not listed on the box is the feature The Conqueror of Atlantis, which features Hercules befriending desert nomads into the lost city of Atlantis. This movie makes up for the boring Goliath and the Dragon tenfold. As for extra features, Something Weird Video doesnýt skimp out. Lots of trailers are included on every disc as well as an interesting text history of Starman and an episode of an early anime called Prince Planet on the Starman discs. There are also tons of short films, especially on the two Sword and Sandal discs. My one complaint is that the selection of movies that comprise this boxed set donýt have too much in common. Sci-Fi and Sword and Sandal make a very strange boxed set, one which will probably keep many people away. In fact, the only reason I bought it was because it cost the same as the two Starman DVDs did. But Iým glad I bought it and if youýre into this kind of crap, you should too.
