Description

A test rocket containing scientific experiments, including a wasps' nest, crashes in the jungles of Africa. Radiation from outer space infects the wasps, creating a hive of titanic atomic mutations as big as a house. These hideous creatures have an appetite for human flesh and proceed to munch their way across the dark continent. An expedition of scientists are sent to investigate the strange happenings and native disappearances. Volcanic thrills come rocketing to the screen as science once again creates mutations born out of the radioactive world of the Atomic Age.

Could have been better.......2005-10-08

This film was billed as being a monster film but it realy plays out as a jungle film from the 40's.
The monster effects are adequate for a "B" film of the era but the story needs a lot of work.
If you want to see a jungle movie,this is for you.But if you are looking for a good 50's monster film,this is NOT for you!

Competent acting & effects don't help - it's just boring........2005-07-11

I've always been a fan of old sci-fi flicks, even if they're corny with bad special effects, even if they're so bad they're funny, like Ed Wood films. Some of my favorites are The Monolith Monsters and Panic In Year Zero. I'm sorry to say this one is just downright boring. The acting is good, and the special effects are certainly better than some other 1950s B-movies, so there's not much to poke fun at. The idea is good in the beginning - a satellite crashes in the jungle, and a Wasp on board was exposed to radiation, making it grow giant. But most of the movie follows the scientists on their trek through the jungle to find it, and is no more than a pointless safari movie, like those old black and white Buster Crabbe films. They finally do get to some monster fighting, but by that time it's hard to keep paying attention. I'll give'em two stars mainly for effort.

Missing Color Footage on DVD.......2005-06-16

I agree with everything the other reviewers have said about this film, but they have failed to mention that the color climax footage included in the film's original theatrical release is in black and white on the DVD while the VHS version does include it.

HUGE wasps........2005-03-14

This movie is O.K. It's about some rocket full of wasps on an experiment. Then, the rocket crashes in Africa. The wasps get mutated by space radiation and grow abot 100 times their original size. Let's get to how good the movie is. The wasps rarely get shown. A dissapointment for fans of old Sci-Fi movies like me. The movie is also slow moving (so many scenes of the characters walking). It also gets of track at times. This is an O.K. 3 star flick.

Big Bugs Go Boom! .......2004-10-01

Scientists send bugs into space. One of their bug-rockets crashes, releasing radiated wasps in (Green Hell) Africa. The wasps grow into bizzy, buzzy, slow-moving behemoths of death! Many natives are devoured before the scientists (including Jim Davis as Dr. Quent Brady) arrive to set things right. They go on a 400 mile safari, and we feel every laborious step! Thankfully, our heroes bring their secret weapon along. I'll betcha didn't know that scientists were so handy with grenades, now didja?? MFGH is a true test of endurance. Even if you like dull movies, this one will cause bed sores! Not quite as boring as THE SNOW CREATURE, but close. Check it out if you are in desperate need of sleep...

Nice Leather Space-suit!.......2003-07-09

This triple feature has something for everyone. First, "Devil Girl From Mars" (worth having for the title alone) involves some pub owners, an escaped convict, a kid, his mum, and some scientists, as they match wits with the bodacious devil grrrrl! She has a weird ship, a cheesey robot, and a cool leather outfit! She wants a man to take back to Mars for breeding purposes. Who wouldn't go?? "Monster From Green Hell" is an epic slab of moldy limburger, starring J.R. Ewing's daddy (on Dallas) Jim Davis. It seems we've sent a rocket full of wasps (???!) into space, only to have them crash, mutate into giants, and start eating folks in "Green Hell" Africa. Only Jim Davis can save us! The "monsters" were snatched from some poor kid's toybox for sure! Enjoyable for it's pure schlock-factor. "Rocketship X-M" Yes, it's Lloyd Bridges as you've never seen him before! He heads a crew on a mission to the moon that goes awry. The ship goes off coarse and heads toward Mars instead! Who knew that Mars was inhabited by cavemen? I was hoping for more devil women!! You'll recognize lots of the cast from other movies like "Kronos", and from the '70s TV hit "Rockford Files" (Jim Rockford's dad). A nice little diversion...

Two out of three ain't bad.......2002-09-01

Another in Navarre's series of public domain titles put together as a budget release. The entire collection is hit or miss. The first film, Monster from Green Hell, is a classic Grade Z feature made by the same people who produced Robot Monster. While the film is not as bad as its infamous predecessor, it isn't very good either. Monster from Green Hell is mostly endless stock footage interspliced with scenes shot in California's Bronson Canyon. The movie appears complete, the framing is good and the sound is adequate. However, the print's picture quality is abysmal. Devil Girl from Mars is a fun, British, science fiction film about a spaceship from Mars landing in the Scottish Highlands. It's similiar in look and tone to Ulmer's Man from Planet X. The print is in excellent condition, appears complete and the framing and sound are good. Rocketship X-M is a Robert Lippert film rushed into production to beat George Pal's big budget Destination Moon to release. Again, the print is in excellent condition. It's a little dark, but, for the most part acceptable. The print is also complete with proper framing and very good sound. The sequences on Mars are sepia-toned. Wade Williams Productions offers this same movie on DVD. Williams modified his version of the film by inserting new special effects shots in place of the stock footage of V2 rockets used in the original print. I understand the original Rocketship X-M no longer exists. Navarre's print appears to be the Williams version. Frankly, considering the quality and completeness of this print it would be silly to spend the extra money for the Wade Williams release. Three stars for two good prints and films out of three.

It's Pretty Good.......2002-08-04

Ok, first check the price. Now you can not expect three movies all carefully restored before being transfered to DVD. Having said that, Devil Girl from Mars and Rocketship X-M came from print that has few, if any distortions, the Monster from Green Hell was pretty poor, but even when it played on TV it never was very high quality. If you are trying to build a collection of old B-rated sci-fi movies, this is a good economical choice. I gave it 4 stars primarily for its low cost, and movies that have many actors/actresses that are early in their careers.
