5 out of 5 stars Why don't Gundams have Key's?.......2007-07-03

this is probably my second favorite Gundam series first of course being 08th ms team, and I love this series. there is lots of action and a good story and fills in nicely between original gundam and zeta. The ending is a little weak but I'm not going to knit pickit's still a great show, but this series bring to an extreme the one true flaw in the gundam universe, GUNDAMS DON'T HAVE KEYS! It seems that just anyone can walk up to a gundam and start it up, you would think with all the advanced technlogy it would take to create the hugh destructive power behind one of these machines someone would be able develope an ignition key system for it or even might think to put a padlock on the door. They must really have faith in the honor system. This is an issue I have with every gundam show especially Zeta, that one has preteens and gradeschooler lifting a moble suit every other episode. despite this flaw the show it extremely enjoyable and alot of fun. oh and definitely check out 08th ms team that one is fantastic.

good gundam series, one of the more gritty, raw gundam series made for adults and not kids... great dvd. cant wait till it comes in the mail

5 out of 5 stars It fills a void between two previous series........2006-08-03

The gap between Mobile Suit Gundam and Zeta Gundam was filled with the exciting release of Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory. In Japan it was very popular upon it's airing, when it came to America via Cartoon Network's Toonami: Midnight Run programming in 2002 it was met with quite a bit of fanfare as well. When I first watched it one night I thought it was amazing compared to the other series that I had already seen, mostly because I had only just seen Mobile Suit Gundam and Gundam Wing at that point.

Now, 4 years later, I can truely appreciate it more. I've seen all of Zeta Gundam, Char's Counterattack, 08th MS Team, Gundam F91, and some other Gundam series from different universes since then. When I bought this boxed set a few months back I then watched it with better knowledge. It gets very interesting in the final episodes because you can see how it's transitioning into Zeta Gundam. The plot twist at the end is an eye opener as well.

Kou Udaki and Anavel Gato are better protagonists than the newtypes in other series because they have the weaknesses that the newtypes don't, they have to make up for it with true grit.

I find Gato to be a very likeable character even though he fights for Zeon, he is honorable and isn't dirty in the way he does things unlike some other Zeon thugs. As for Kou, he's a pushover in the beginning of the series. However, he becomes quite impressive (and possibly comparable to a newtype) in skill as the series approaches it's finale. That's why I like Kou and Gato so much more than Amuro and the various other newtypes, it's not a battle of who has the better psychic powers of perception. These guys have to rely on instincts and guts.

I think the viewer connects to them more because of that.

A great Gundam series and a great anime series as well, it speaks for the regular human pilots. Buy this, it's a worthy addition to any enthusiast's collection or even a casual anime fan's collection.

3 out of 5 stars The Action-packed side of Gundam.......2006-04-12

Although it takes place between the stories of the original 1979 Mobile Suit Gundam TV series and the first sequel, 1985's Zeta Gundam TV series, Gundam 0083 was created in the early '90s, which complicates story matters somewhat, particularly for the hard core Gundam fan who works hard to rationalize the minutae of this fictional universe.

But for everyone else, this is a great action show, most episodes having at least one decent-length combat sequence, and some having multiple. The action is top-notch; not quite as flashy as can be found now, fifteen years after it Gundam 0083 began, but even so there is enough highly-detailed action to please nearly anyone.

The rest of the story, however, is more than a little cliche, even for anime. The protagonist, Kou Uraki, is only marginally better at combat than he is at dealing with women, so it may seem odd that he is assigned the prototype Gundam GP-01 mobile suit rather than one of the more experienced pilots who enters the scene after the nuclear-armed Gundam GP-02A is stolen by hard-core Zeon holdouts who refuse to admit that Zeon lost the war depicted in the original Mobile Suit Gundam TV series.

The Earth Federation, meanwhile, is consistantly portrayed as small-minded, weak, and corrupt; so much so that the characters themselves wonder how the Federation managed to win the previous war. On the flip side, only the clean part of Zeon is represented in this show, despite the fact that the backstory of one of the characters presents her as a participant in Zeon's ethnic cleansing program which wiped out approximately half of the human race. But, as I said, none of this is presented in the show, so don't worry too much about it.

Action is the centerpeice of this story, and all other considerations tend to be sacrificed in order to arrange combat between the major characters. The action is good; the mechanical designs by industry giants Shoji Kawamori and Hajime Katoki are constantly in the spotlight, and the majority of the action scenes were lovingly detailed by the animation staff. So, if you prefer a fast pace, lots of action, and a minimum of exposition, this is definitely a show you should consider. If you prefer deep characters, a strong storyline, and well-considered plots, you'll probably want to look at the other Gundam OAVs, like Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket or Gundam: The 08th MS Team.

5 out of 5 stars THIS IS GUNDAM!.......2006-02-09

I first saw Gundam Wing aired on CN, and thought that it was the PREMIERE Gundam series... I also thought it was the only Gundam series. Then, I saw Tomino's original Gundam. There are no words capable of expressing his ability as a writer/ director. Since then I have followed all the U.C. Gundam series, with that only in mind. I have yet to see all of Zeta Gundam, or any of Formula 91, but I have seen all, and of recent, own all the short OVA series. Stardust Memory is what I would call the rise to greatness. Even though it was created after Zeta, it builds the story well enough to let the newbie, get entangled into the complex story known as Gundam. Now if only Bandai would get into gear and release the complete U.C Story.

5 out of 5 stars Ziggy Stardust DVD.......2007-05-14

I collect music performance DVD's, and this one rates right up there with some of the best. The video viewing quality is adequate. The show itself is fun to watch, a great concert, nostalgic. I found myself comparing Mick Ronson's style, technical ability, and guitar flash, to todays performers, and how things have changed and evolved. There are some hilights, songs like Meenage Daydream, worth the price of admission. If your a Bowie Fan, its a must, otherwise still a good one to own.

If you like all that pre-grunge grunge dressed up in outlandish costumes and enough make-up to cause Angela Bowie blush, you'll David and the Spiders ripping their way through their hits and a couple of covers including Mott the Hoople's "All the Young Dudes" and Lou Reed's "White Light, White Heat."

Grungy and gaudy before either were cool!

5 out of 5 stars the best document of ziggymania.......2007-01-29

david bowie has to be one of the best performers of all time - he has such a great stage presence and great vocal delivery - and then there is all the sparkle and glam that would make him a legend of the era.. It is so nice to have this concert footage of the legend - ziggy stardust.. Great set of songs includes the Mott the Hopple Bowie penned hit - all the young dudes..

4 out of 5 stars Classic Bowie and Ronson.......2007-01-16

This is one cool but dated video. It contains some of the only video of Mick Ronson, deceased, available. It also chronicles the Ziggy Stardust tour which was huge for Bowie in his cross dressing era. It's really good if you excuse the fact it was shot with less than top of the line gear. It still gives the vibe and I do recommend it to anyone who loves Bowie during this time. This is really some of his best work in a time when many people didn't know what to make of him.

Get it, set back, and wonder.

"Doesn't he know he's got the greatest gift anyone can have, the gift of laughter?" Woody Allen stars as filmmaker Sandy Bates, who, like John Sullivan in Preston Sturges's Sullivan's Travels, no longer wants to make comedies. As studio executives threaten to wrest control of his latest film, he reluctantly attends a weekend film-culture festival in his honor, where he is besieged by journalists ("I'm doing a piece on the shallow indifference of celebrities"), groupies ("I drove all the way from Bridgeport to make it with you"), and persistent oddballs ("Can I talk to you about my idea I have for a movie? It's a comedy based on the whole Guyana mass suicide").

After the exhilarating Manhattan, Stardust Memories was a dramatic departure that threw critics and fans for an outraged loop. But out of all of Allen's films, it is perhaps the one most ripe for rediscovery. It poses the same dilemma Stephen King would later tackle in Misery: What happens when a popular artist is held captive by an adoring audience that doesn't want him to change? The answer may come from an extraterrestrial, who in one of the many fantasy sequences advises the comedian, "You want to do mankind a real service? Tell funnier jokes."

The film is impeccably cast with Charlotte Rampling, Jessica Harper, and Marie-Christine Barrault (of Cousine/Cousine) as the three women in Sandy's life. There are also choice bits by Sharon Stone as a fantasy woman on a train, Daniel Stern as an aspiring actor, Louise Lasser as Sandy's overwhelmed secretary, Laraine Newman as an unimpressed studio executive, and Tony Roberts as Tony Roberts. My own aunt, Victoria Zussin, utters the film's most famous line as the patron who tells Sandy she loves his movies, especially "your early funny ones." --Donald Liebenson

    Description

A sharp, satirical look at the high price of fame, Woody Allen's Stardust Memories is a "wickedly funny" (The New York Times) story about a disillusioned filmmaker who is just about at the end of his rope. Sparkling with the confidence of an artist in full bloom, Stardust Memories is "a film to be seen and savored" (Jeffery Lyons)! Legendary comic filmmaker Sandy Bates (Allen) is tired of being funny. Teetering on the brink of a nervous breakdown, Bates attends a weekend retrospective of his films, only to confront the meaning of his work, the memories of his great love, Dorrie (Charlotte Rampling), and the merits of settling down with new girlfriend, Isobel (Marie-Christine Barrault). Plagued by hallucinations, alien visitations and the bloodless studio executives trying to re-cut his bleak new film, Bates struggles to find a reason to go on living. But when he falls prey to a gun-wielding fanatic, his zany brush with death reveals that there is value tohis own existence, and that often, the best reason to go on living is life itself.

4 out of 5 stars Woody meets Federico in the Stardust Hotel.......2007-02-03

I was very surprised to find out that Stardust Memories is dismissed by both critics (at least some of them) and viewers as absolutely unwatchable Allen's film, his most chaotic attempt to claim that he can not stand his fans. I found it insightful and witty satire that cleverly (as always; if anything, Woody is a very clever man) fuses the comic and the serious.

Sandy Bates (Allen, of course) - a comic director who does not want to make funny films anymore "because there is so much suffering in the world" (the scene reminds so much of Sturgis's "Sullivan's Travels"). Sandy is depressed because his new "serious" film is not well received by both critics and public and he is spending a weekend at Stardust Hotel during showing of his films. While there, he reflects upon his life, art, and relationships with three different women. Sounds familiar? Like 8 1/2, anyone? You are absolutely right. Woody meets Federico in the Stardust Hotel. The film is delight in gorgeous black and white. It is funny, touching, angry - all in the same time. The film was made twenty four years ago and I am very happy that Sandy - Woody had realized that to help the world IS to do what you do the best - funny movies. "The people survived because they laughed".

One more thing - Charlotte Rampling is breathtaking.

    9.5/10 or 4.5/5

5 out of 5 stars One of my favorite Woody Allen films..........2006-10-21

"Stardust Memories" is one of the Woodman's first serious films. It's about a director named Sandy Bates, a man who simply doesn't want to make goofball comedies anymore, and it seems that the comedies are all that society wants from him. He's unhappy at the moment because his first "serious" film isn't well recieved by the public. He decides to stay a weekend at a hotel to reflect upon his life, body of work, and relationships of the past while a festival showcasing his films is occuring. Meanwhile, he encounters groups of his fans who ask for autographs, compliment him on his "early funnies", his dinstinct style of filmmaking, and he encounters a beautiful woman named Dorrie (played by the utterly beautiful Charlotte Rampling), whom of which he falls in love with.

I love "Stardust Memories". It's one of the first films of the Woodman's that I saw, and it turned me into a fan of his.

4 out of 5 stars Not Great, But Still Underrated.......2006-08-09

Great photography, music and the rest of the Woody Allen amenities. Jessica Harper is exceptional in this. Funny, the movie should have been about her character. It might have been great.

4 out of 5 stars Enjoy the Humor Ignore the Pretentions.......2006-07-04

Allen gives homage to Fellini as he stars as a successful film director besieged by fans and critic who enjoy his earlier, funnier work. Obviously, Allen is playing a thinly disguised version of himself. He always does in his own movies. Given that understanding, its odd to see Allen taking victory laps and making fun of critics and his fanbase so early in his career. If he been allowed to look ahead to the lack of quality of many of the movies he made in the 90's and the new millenium, he might not have been so cocky. Anyhow, much of the humor is smart and funny and pointed. Allen engages in a lot of self indulgent moping about and skirt chasing of groupies have his age. The jokes are funny but the angst rings false.

    5 out of 5 stars Woody Allen's Stardust Memories.......2006-03-16

This is one of my all time favorite Woody Allen movies. The movie is both fictional and autobiographical. This film came at a time in his career when he wanted to be taken more seriously as a writer/director/filmmaker, and yet much of his fan base wanted more movies like "Bananas". Woody makes a staement, yet remains entertaining and intellectually funny. His use of black and white film is brilliant. Much like "Manhattan", and "The Broadway Danny Rose" (which is my second favorite Allen film), he has a Bergmanesque quality in his cimematography. Close ups and long unflinching soliloquies that hypnotize and fascinate. You feel like a fly on the wall in much of the film. The characters are both real and cartoonish in the same brushstroke. In this film, Allen is a director/filmmaker who is honored at film festival of his films in a quirky seaside town. The events that take place, and the things that happen are both funny and pathetic. His use of flashbacks to his childhood and a past relationship with a mentally unstable actress are both surreal and humorous. The script writing lends itself to filling out these people and situations in a very complete and actual way. I don't want to give any more of the plot away, because when I first saw this film, I knew nothing about it and I was just swept up by it. That's how you should see it. If you like Woody Allen films you'll like this. However, don't expect slapstick comedy and "Everything You Wanted To Know About Sex" type humor.

    4 out of 5 stars Beautiful.......2007-05-18

Beautiful movie, opulent costumes and backdrops. Aishwarya looks stunning and all the actors give great performances. Lovely to watch!

It's obvious that Umrao Jaan is the center of attention throughout the movie (it basically revolves around her) but I feel it's at the expense of other characters that I wish would have been covered in more depth as they were also interesting characters in their own right. This could have easily been done while keeping Umrao Jaan in the limelight.

    A few minor glitches:

I found a bit silly was how a feared and infamous dacoit like Faiz Ali could ever be careless enough to lose his weapon, and/or would fail to have another weapon handy if such an incident did occur.

The second half does move a bit slow and lose momentum and the end was a little anticlimactic.

Other than that, an enjoyable film.

5 out of 5 stars A great love story of times...a true classic...!.......2007-01-22

Umrao Jaan had great potential to become one of the renowned classics of the world cinema, had the screenwriter and the director had the foresight to know when to end the movie.

The plot had all the tools of a successful story, well told, superbly acted both by Aishwarya Rai and Abishek Bachchan. They excelled themselves once more, projecting a great love, that never went stale nor it lost its intensity of passion. The essence of the movie was a love story that ended in tragedy and it should have never turned into a life story. When the couple parted and she returned home, to the brothel in Lucknow that should have been the end, for anything that came after that was anticlimactic and only tried the patience of the audience.

A movie should only have one great climax scene, and that came with the crisis when Nawab Sultan disowned her. Resolution should have followed immediately. We know that her life as we knew it ended there and possibly she became a living corpse. So why digress, diluting the effect of the climax adding another crisis scene, such as the rejection of her family?

We all know that in a society that public affection is forbidden even to this day it is obvious that she could not go home again, so why bother to show it? And the purpose of the last wedding scene where she performed escaped me. If it was to add another song it just served to bore the viewers.

J.P. Dutta will be wise to edit the ending of the movie, making it shorter, and release it again for the sake of saving a great piece of art from permanent oblivion.

5 out of 5 stars See if for Aishwarya .......2007-01-16

This film is quite possibly Aishwarya Rai's greatest performance. She easily holds this film together in the title role and lends an enormous dignity to the character of Umrao Jaan. She wonderfully translates the feeling of a woman who just can't fight her fate. Beautiful piece of cinema.

    5 out of 5 stars Totally Underrated.......2007-01-12

This movie was amazing. Aishwarya did a wonderful job as Umrao Jaan! Its sad that this movie did not get what it deserved at the box office- this is one of the most underrated movies. The story is a classic, so you know that there will be no flaw there- the movie lies in the acting and songs- which are amazing. Aishwarya gave an outstanding performance, the movie was very beautiful (the colors and sets are gorgeous). Aishwarya looked stunning in this movie.
This movie is one of the best bollywood movies!

5 out of 5 stars Bitter sweet......... Excellent!!!!.......2007-04-19

I don't usually do reviews but I was so impressed that I had to make this my one exception
This was, by far,one of the best Bollywood movies I have seen yet. Here is one where the males far outweighed the females in their delivery of passion and frustration.
Outstanding performances from Shahrukh and Abhishek, two of the most sexiest men in Bollywood.

This is one that will make you want to fall in love all over again.

An added bonus is the soundtrack, especially the hauntingly beautiful Tumhi Dekho Naa, and Mitwa which conveys all the joy newly discovered love can bring.
Overall an excellent movie. I think you will find worth the purchase.

1 out of 5 stars A QUADRILATERAL AT LAST! .......2007-04-11

Such an inordinate number of successful Bollywood films seem to tread the jaded lines of one geometric shape, the triangle--Kuchh Kucch Hota Hai, Dil To Paagal Hai, Saajan, Kal Ho Na Ho, Parineeta, ad infinitum--that one could be forgiven for wanting to hand the industry a Camlin compass box.

Not to worry. Karan Johar, the under-30 Star Director (as they'll have you believe) rips through the shackles of that well-established formula, and offers us this putative "breakthrough" film: a quadrilaterial! Four lead actors, you see, caught ever so helplessly in the web of extra-marital flexibilities. A smart, savvy, young theme, one that showcases the intricacies and challenges of an India of the future.

Right. I hate to prick the bubble, but this flapdoodle is anything but. Notwithstanding the familiar picnics that we've seen in Sooraj Barjatya flicks (polygons?), KANK's problem is not with the moral indignations that ultra-conservatives may have with its theme. Sure, attractions beyond ill-conceived and hastily-arranged marriages are a reality. Who, having enjoyed an orange, would nevermore want an apple?

But where the film comes up short, very short, is in its sheer lack of sensibility with the subject matter for grown-ups. Like a lumpy soup in a cheap restaurant where the chef couldn't decide quite how much to put in, of what, KANK never quite makes up its mind about being a sincere film exploring a sincere theme, or a mass market slapstick, leaping instead from the frivolous to the utterly idiotic.

We see a couple of couples make what we're supposed to believe is an honest endeavor at a platonic relationship. A When-Harry-Met-Sally exploration of male-female bonds ensues. Love gratified is love satisfied, and love satisfied is indifference begun. But only the married folk in this fairy tale complete that circle, not these well-meaning friends with their thinly-veiled flirtations.

The editing doesn't help either. As the story meanders through the needless song and aerobics, Rani and Abhishek are probably the only two that carry their roles with a semblance of sanity. Big B looks like a buffoon, but he seems to have been working hard at it for a couple of years, so I suppose we must say he's successful. Shahrukh seems to continue to win accolades for his hammy prattle, which ceased to be charming quite a while ago, and is only more egregious in this self-same installment. Kiran Kher joins the jamboree for the sole purpose of bringing sobriety to an erratic old man by oh-so-coyly calling him "boyfriend" (imagine the middle-aged aunties in the audience swooning over in giggles), and because that were clearly not enough, she also manages to bag a couple of gaffes celebrating her derriere from Jullundur.

Bollywood's fascination with New York--the most usual suspect among "foreign cities", after London--continues, with just the kind of bromides we have seen in numerous previous attempts. A cavalcade of overcoats is obligatory (what a uni-seasonal city NY must be) and the Johar version of New York lives, breathes, sleeps in eternal perpetuity right by the Hudson river, because, clearly, that's where everything happens.

For viewers/reviewers gushing with praise because they "truly saw moments from their lives embedded into this film", may I recommend a healthy dose of some of our own gems -- Ijaazat, Silsila, Kaash, Arth, Kabhi Kabhie, Saath Saath (for a dash of the light-hearted), Seema (with Balraj Sahni) and so forth -- where similar themes have been handled with the kind of grace and cadence that the subject calls for, and heck, deserves. If one is truly inclined to expand one's perspective and savor more intelligent films about the cobweb of relationships, I wholeheartedly recommend the likes of The Ice Storm, Eat Drink Man Woman, We Don't Live Here Anymore, Lost in Translation, Heat and Dust, An Ideal Husband, American Beauty, Dangerous Liaisons. And so on.

Barring the soundtrack, which has some hummable melodies, the discerning may do well to skip this three-hour non-entertainment. It is not a breakthrough. It is certainly not a New Experiment. It's a mawkish popcorn thing that's made to appeal to the masses and to overworked engineers named Hari Prasad.

2 out of 5 stars Great stars and great music wasted on a poor script.......2007-04-05

The latest from Bollywood's biggest producer/director, Karan Johar, who once again assembles a stellar cast - Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta, & Abhishek Bachchan - only to waste them on a dog of a story. As with most Bollywood productions, the film is built around a romance, but this time the protagonists are already married and must suffer - along with audience - boat-fulls of angst before their love can blossom.

The biggest problem with the film is that the audience can't sympathize with the protagonists or their predicament. We never really care what happens to Shah Rukh, who acts more selfish and petulant than the children to whom he acts as soccer coach, and Rani is so overly-sensitive that the least hint of criticism or suspicion causes her to burst into tears. Too many times during this film I found myself wishing that the two would get on with it, run away, and end this mess of a film.

The Indian public ate it up - as did overseas audiences. KANK became the biggest grossing Indian film in Europe and America, beating out Johar's much better 2001 release, Khubi Kushi Kabhi Kham.

About the only thing this film has going for it is the music, a nice collection of genre pieces, including a love ballad (Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna), a pop-rock anthem (Mitwa), and a techno dance number (Where's the Party Tonight?). If you want to make a purchase, get the soundtrack and enjoy some great music, but skip the film.

5 out of 5 stars "I'd come with you but I'm a little tied up...".......2007-02-25

Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (KANK) is quite a thought provoking movie. It's very much different from the conventional Bollywood cinema. I had reservations about this movie at first because most of the reviews I saw were more focused on the star cast and NYC location than the substance of the movie. Having seen the movie, I'm glad I did.

KANK is the tale of two people Dev and Maya (Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukherji) who become friends in an attempt to save their failing marriages. Dev is married to his friend out of college, Rhea (Preity Zinta) and Maya is married to her childhood friend (Abhiseck Bachchan). Dev meets Maya by chance on her wedding day while she was having cold feet. He convinces her to go ahead with the marriage as she may have to wait for the rest of her life for Mr. Right who may never show up.

Both go their separate ways only to meet four years later by chance...again. This time a lot has changed. Both their marriages are heading for the rocks. Dev's situation is made worse because his football career is on hold due to a knee injury while his wife's career is soaring; thereby relegating him to the position of the dependant. Maya's situation is made worse because she is unable to have kids. She feels no spark for her husband plus he won't stop acting like the spoiled kid he is.

At first, both Dev and Maya only poke fun at how miserable the others life is in their marriages. It wasn't until Sam (Amitahb Bachchan) made an innocent comment about being friends with Dev's mother (Kiron Kher) because they've been through the same things thereby understand each other better that both Dev and Maya decide to use the excuse of marital dissatisfaction to be closer together. I suppose this is the point another question is raised. Can an adult male and female be purely friends without letting anything sexual mar the relationship? Did they cross the sexual boundaries or not? What were their spouses' reactions to the friendship? Was separation/divorce an issue? I suppose I'll let you find out in the movie.

The high points for this movie come from the way the script was woven to keep you wondering if they will ever make the decision to go all the way or not. Also from making a fine point between what society expects and what happens in reality.

All the actors did well portraying the different characters but I got the most kicks from watching Amitahb as the guy after anything in skirt. The idea of having him check out Kiron Kher was really adorable. I suppose this is where I have to disagree with the previous reviewer about the director splashing a serious issue with frivolous jokes. I honestly think the comic relieve helped the tone of the movie a lot. Being that majority of the Bollywood cinema audience find the concept that weaves this movie together unconventional, I think the script writer did well to introduce the jokes however subtle to lessen the audience aversion for some of the twists in the movie altogether.

I also think Rani Mukherji stole the show. Portraying the woman who loves two guys a lot, but in different ways was very well done and I don't think anyone else could have pulled it off better. Plus I've seen her in quite a few movies but I never reeeally looked at her until now. Good Lord! Is she gorgeous or what? MOST DEFINITELY!

4 out of 5 stars Great story... different story from where it used tobe.......2007-02-21

Watching this title was something new for me, you will find a different story..unusual from what you had seen before. the love.. and the affairs.
seems that marriage couple after many years they had lives along wont get along too, even if they think they had meet the only one, but turns out it isnt what you looking for. Your love are still out there and you need to come into making some part of mistaken in life which makes you become the miserable person in world.. but at the end you found that love and you will have to make decision whether you are going to fight for it or give up?
great actors... love them and the characters.
love to watch their performance , especially Rani.
also theis music.. love it love it...

    LIVE 1984 STARDUST BALLROOM (SAMHAIN)

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars completely blown away by this am i.......2005-12-10

of all the glenn danzig related bands SAMHAIN was always my favorite. more serious than the Misfits, and definitely less cock rock silliness than what DANZIG finally became (although the first danzig cd packs serious wallop, as i am sure you know) I swear if i would have had this in the late 80s when i lived and breathed this stuff, i would have thrice soiled my trousers . it is that bad ass.

i tried to watch this pretending like i had never seen or heard them before. it wasnt easy. i cant imagine what it must have been like for those who were there. The songs are awesome. the sound is pretty good by the third song. Some of the songs are so intense and tight that the hairs literally stood up on my arm. 'the hungry end', 'unholy passion' and 'black dream' are soulcrushing. 'the shift' is awesome but then eerie von totally screws up 'the howl' on the second verse. pitty too, because it started out SO GREAT! Steve Zing is the most amazing here. his enthusiasm for playing is awesome. he is totally into it. and his performance is flawless. I always thought that the coolest drumbeats ever were to be heard on INITIUM and UNHOLY PASSION records. Damien is perfect on the guitar. all those weird spooky chords. and damn, the man can downpick faster than anyone i have ever seen. Danzig's vocals are mostly pretty good here. he is intense, often seeming like he is barking rather than singing to the crowd. a great performance by him (not to mention a rare smile or two) on 'archangel' and then the last cut, 'moribund' rips you in two. SO good for the SAMHAIN freak.

5 out of 5 stars It was Nov. 84 - Turkey Blowout at the Stardust Ballroom.......2005-11-14

Youth Brigade, Necros, 7 Seconds, Samhain, C2D(Condemned To Death),Rigor Mortis, and others. A great show at the Stardust Ballroom in Hollywood. By the way, Im 40 years old now as is most of the people who were lucky enough to have been there that night.

4 out of 5 stars Samhain the way they were meant to be: raw and powerful.......2005-11-09

This concert DVD captures Samhain at the Stardust Ballroom in 1984 (or is it 1985?), and as you can imagine, it catches them the way they were meant to be seen: raw and powerful. Yes, the audio and video quality aren't anything special, and yes, the cameramen take a while to find some safe ground, but underneath all that you get the godfather of ghoul rock Glenn Danzig and co. playing an incredible show that even includes some Misfits favorites. The biggest drawback is the DVD itself, which is bare bones and devoid of features besides the concert itself (which is less than an hour long), and considering the list price of the DVD you'd figure there would be some extras thrown in. That aside, for fans of Samhain, Danzig, or the Misfits, this is definitely worth picking up to see the band at their rawest and heaviest.

5 out of 5 stars Got Anything Better?.......2005-10-23

This DVD is supposedly the full show of an old video filmed by Flipside Magazine that floated around most of the late 80s and early 90s. As with all Flipside videos you get the idea that you are at the show, people bumping into the cameraman, sketchy inconsistent sound, random shots of the floor and ceiling etc. Despite all the flaws and problems with the DVD that the previous reviews retentively pointed out this DVD is a good watch. In some ways these imperfections lend the DVD an endearing quality...and if you have anything better then share it with the rest of us, if not...

4 out of 5 stars "Live 1984" Or Is It Really "Live 1985"? Who Really Cares!.......2005-10-11

The cover of the DVD says "Live 1984" but the opening credit on the DVD reads "11/21/85". For some reason the makers of this DVD either have no editors or they never even watched the DVD. Therefore, you don't know if the cover date of '84 is right, or if the inside opening credit of 11/21/85 is correct. I'm going with the opening credit date of 11/21/85.
Regardless of not knowing the exact year of the show, this DVD is a fantastic document of a young Danzig post-Misfit and pre- solo. While the audio and picture quality are not superb, it is a pretty decent recording. The opening of the concert is very chaotic as the camera people are scurrying for position, and trying to avoid human missiles. It takes a few songs for the camera operators to find safe and clear spots for filming (2 cameras are used). The rest of the concert is nicely filmed.
The audio is pretty shabby in the beginning but gets cleaned up and sounds clear for the 2nd half. Danzig is hard to understand as he slurrs and grunts his words so this doesn't help matters. Also, the lights go out on the band twice during "Macabre", and at the end of the song Danzig yells at the lighting people, "Hey! Whoever is turning those f%cking lights off. Leave 'em on!" Then they play "Die, Die, My Darling", and the lights go off again right at the beginning of the song! But Danzig and crew don't flinch, and blister through this Misfit's classic as the crowd at the "Stardust" goes completely crazy! Danzig whips the audience into a raging frenzy of sweat soaked, churnig flesh.
Watching this concert takes you back in time to the influential era of the 1980's when bands where taking music into new directions. Samhain and The Misfits were two ground-breaking bands from this period, and the lynchpin for both bands was Glenn Danzig. Helping to create and define a new style of metal that is just now being acknowledged and recognized as the template for current metal.
While there are flaws to this DVD, such as: 1) the barebones, no frills, "here's the DVD and only the DVD" packaging 2) the spotty audio and picture quality and 3) the short running time of 48min.; these are more than made up for by getting to witness a truely influential band and musician (Danzig) is their/his prime. The band is great, Danzig is fantastic, and the crowd is wild. A memorable and historic night luckily captured for all true music lovers to witness and enjoy.
But then again as Danzig points out to the crowd, "I've been told if you parked across the street your cars are being towed. But I don't care because I didn't park there."
    "Go. Go. Go. Go. Go!"

Get ready for a wild ride! A sexually rapacious Asian goddess, known as the "Queen of the South Sea", possesses the body of a young female skin diver. Armed with an AK47 and an endless supply of bullets , this murderous Lady Terminator takes to the streets on a revenge filled rampage.

It's like KILL BILL - but with oodles of sex. This combination of Asian black magic and western-style shoot `em up is one of the key cult movies of the '80s. Even the jaded patrons of 42nd Street were shocked to see how the lustful Lady T dispatched her male victims!

Previously released in a cut, full screen version, this DVD restores the film to its original length and is presented in a digitally remastered widescreen 16:9 format

5 out of 5 stars An Instant Classic !!!!.......2007-05-07

This is a classic action pacted movie that should have garnered Academy consideration. Christopher J.Hart's depiction of the newest super-hero, Max Monroe, is nothing short of Oscar Worthy. You will be on the edge of your seat the whole time. Fight scenes are relentness.

Unfortuneately, due to a terrible cocaine addiction, this was Chris's final major movie role. But due to his passionate love scene in the movie, my contacts have told me he did find much work in the porn industry.

5 out of 5 stars How can anyone hate this?.......2006-06-15

Wow, I'm surprised that people hate this and gave it anything less than 5 stars. We have non-stop blasting machine guns at a Terminator rip-off chick possessed by some Goddess that wants to kill the relative (a bad 80's pop singer) of some dude that made her stop her evil men killing ways (she killed the men after having sex with them of course). Pretty much, this movie rules! Best part is when a group of bonehead macho guys that look like G.I.Joe action figures come to life start cussing out Lady Terminator and attacking her with everything they got (tanks, rockets, machine guns), resulting in various explosions. The movie ends with the most profound words I've ever heard too, more profound than anything by a poet or philosopher, here they are:

"The struggles in our souls is never ending, the life of man is short and brutal, torn between good and evil, of the eternity around us, we know nothing. The stars look on. They have been here long before mankind appeared on our small planet..and will be here long after we are no more"

~ Dramatic Narrator in Lady Terminator

3 out of 5 stars "I've heard of the ultimate bj...but this is too much".......2006-05-03

The grindhouse classic. Oh, you know, the type screened in wonderfully sleazy theaters in bad neighborhoods. Think Ilsa, She-Wolf of the SS. Nice mental image? Alas, it's Americana lost to developers. Why must the most special of things always be the first trampled under the banner of progress? Look at Harlem today. This film is one of the last of the genre. You've heard of Lady Terminator, but never actually saw it, right? No longer do you have to risk rape or robbery to glimpse Barbara Constable's ample assets! The adrenal reward of the danger quotent may be gone. So is your excuse.

This an Indonesian picture from the dusk of the eighties. The story revolves around the authentic legend of the "South Sea Queen", who lures men to their doom. When one finally defeats her, she curses his descendants. One hundred years later, the Queen crawls up a cute anthroplogist's hooha in the form of an eel. With some strange immunity to bullets, she proceeds to kill everyone between her and the pop starlet great-granddaughter of the man who cast her into the sea. The ending left me wondering why the old man didn't just do that in the first place. But I won't spoil it ;)

Amusement abounds, not all intentional. We're treated to a burnt out shell of a helicopter that somehow remains airborne; cringe inducing bad jokes; inept overdubs; and, lest I forget, Snake's priceless mullet. Nudity. Explosions. And here's the kicker, folks. The latter two thirds of the film are a scene for scene ripoff of "The Terminator"! Even dialogue is cribbed ("Come with me if you want to live!"). Audacity at it's most grandly absurd. Pedestal worthy.

The print looks great considering the source materials. Mondo Macabro added some alternate scenes. Plus. there's a little documenatry that explains the causes of the Indonesian film boom twenty five years ago, and why it died out. Those with good taste are directed elsewhere. The rest of you, hey, you've made it this far. Take the plunge. Then track down some of Indonesian garbage cinema from the doc like "The Warrior" and "Mystics in Bali". Cheap thrills for a boring generation.

5 out of 5 stars Kills brain cells.......2005-07-03

Let's quickly mention the countries most noted for filmmaking. The United States leads the way, of course, with a whole city devoted to churning out cinematic marvels. France has a long tradition of releasing thought provoking films in nearly every conceivable genre, and has recently added amazingly grim horror films to the mix. Britain occasionally throws out something interesting, as do Germany and Spain. Italy, it should go without saying, knows how to make films even though they've lost a lot of steam in the past few years. Who else? Oh, Asian cinema is really making waves here now with what seems like hundreds upon hundreds of horror titles that are completely restructuring the terror genre. Japan, Korea, Thailand, Hong Kong--from these places artful nightmares spring. Finally, we cannot discount the contributions from Indonesia. INDONESIA? Yep, 'tis true. In the 1980s and early 1990s, the Indonesian film biz received a boatload of government money to make a bunch of movies for export to the States and beyond. Thanks to a DVD company called Mondo Macabro, we can finally sit in our homes and enjoy the fruits of Indonesia's cinematic excursions. God help us all. Unfortunately, God is nowhere to be found.

Cue "Lady Terminator," an amazing amalgamation of action movie, Indonesian folklore, and a mountain of artery clogging cheese. Others below have performed an excellent post-mortem on this unholy terror, but I'll go ahead and throw out another summary. The film begins by introducing us to the legend of the Queen of the South Sea, a rather vituperative old biddy who spends her days lounging around the undersea palace luring young men to her bed. No mortal can satisfy her cravings, not with a snake located in a sensitive area that puts an end to these poor chaps. But one day a man arrives who does the impossible, and the Queen is furious. She curses the guy's granddaughter. The end. No, not really. We then flash forward to, well, the day when archeologist wannabe Tania Wilson (Barbara Anne Constable) is poking around a musty old library looking to finish her thesis on the Queen of the South Sea. Off she goes on a boat in search of the underwater palace, and before you can say "presto-chango," she's in a bed in the palace. The Queen possesses her body and embarks on a killing spree the likes of which would make Ahnuld blanche with horror. The massacre begins when Tania emerges from the sea and murders two young toughs, one of whom resembles in no small way Adrian Zmed.

Tania/the Queen then checks into a hotel (!), undergoes some sort of weird shaking tremor replete with flashing lights metamorphosis, and then goes out to kill even more people. Frankly, I'm at a loss to lay out a coherent narrative. The movie simply doesn't have one. We do meet an American cop by the name of Max McNeil (Christopher J. Hart) who quickly becomes wrapped up in protecting Indonesian pop star Erica (Claudia Rademaker), the granddaughter mentioned in the curse, from the wrath of the Lady Terminator. What follows is breathtaking in its audacity. Whole scenes from Cameron's "The Terminator" appear in this film, including a bar shootout, a car chase with guns blazing, the infamous eyeball scene, and the police station shootout. The latter is particularly amusing considering the poorly choreographed gunplay. Tania blows away billions of cops without reloading and, even though McNeil stands a few feet away returning fire, can't seem to hit the man with a single round. Erica's wise old granddad shows up to fire off some magical hocus pocus at the witch, but quickly dies as a result. Nothing can stop this lady, not even McNeil's hilariously pathetic American friends, one of whom sports a mullet that would kill mere mortals. I won't spoil the conclusion for you--although it's likely you won't make it that far.

"Lady Terminator" is the grand mal seizure of bad filmmaking. This is it, folks. Right here. Every aspect of this film is dumb on a metaphysical scale. Dialogue (yeah, right) assails the ears like rocks dropped from the Empire State Building. The pacing lumbers like a crippled dinosaur on tranquilizers. The dubbing is the worst I've ever heard, and the acting is stroke inducing. As for the special effects, well, a nine year old working with a tin of playdoh and some pipe cleaners could do a better job than this movie. God, I cringe just thinking about this turkey. But for some reason, I simply can't give this anything less than five stars. Why? Because it's so stupendously horrible that every other bad movie looks like an Oscar contender by comparison, and the temerity to blatantly ripoff "The Terminator" lock, stock, and barrel deserves some praise--or a swift kick to director Jalil Jackson's shins. I'm issuing a warning to you, however. DO NOT WATCH THIS FILM IF YOU DESPISE BAD MOVIES! If you're one of those people who think "Gigli" is the end all be all of wretched moviemaking, don't give this one a second thought. "Lady Terminator" is strictly for the "so bad it'll make me sterile" crowd.

Star ratings don't really apply to a film like this one anyway. "Lady Terminator" is far outside the bounds of some arbitrary ratings system. I don't really know whether I ought to thank Mondo Macabro for this DVD or place a pox upon their house. They, Mondo Macabro that is, acquit themselves from unleashing this nightmare upon the western world in part by including some interesting extras, the most important of which is a lengthy documentary about Indonesian filmmaking. This supplement explains the legend of the Queen of the South Seas; the government's attempts to finance the movie business; and includes clips from other atrocities that look worse than "Lady Terminator." Also included are trailers, alternate scenes, a director's filmography, and a gallery of stills. Step carefully here, folks.

2 out of 5 stars Worth watching just so you can say you saw it........2005-01-11

An Indonesian remake of THE TERMINATOR made in 1988. That's it. That's all you need to know to turn and run from this film, but if your morbid curiosity is still peaked then you need to go ahead and watch it cause nothing I can say will be able to properly describe the pure wackiness of this overseas stinker.

Made with the production values of a Mexican game show the story is suppose to be about an unattractive broad called The Sea Goddess who's upset because no man can tame the snake that lives in her holiest of holies. Finally some guy does, so she puts a curse on the guy's great granddaughter. Fast-forward to the present day and The Sea Goddess possesses a woman deep sea diving. Once back on land she starts reenacting the story from THE TERMINATOR.

She shoots up a disco, has a car chase then rams her car into a police station and shoots every single thing that moves...a lot. Including some brutal and uncalled for machine gun fire to the groin! One unlucky fellow is shot multiple times, falls off a balcony, shot point blank for 5 seconds and then if that's not bad enough she kicks him in the round tables!

After the police station massacre she cuts out her eyeball washes it then sticks it back in. Then for the final shoot-out she drives some piece of junk rattletrap to the airport and drives around really fast while the cops, a tank and a helicopter armed with missiles shoot her car about 800 times. At one point there's even a missile just hanging on the side of the car. Finally after being hit with 20 missiles and rammed repeatedly with a tank the car gives out and the Lady Terminator jumps out and starts shooting lasers out of her eyes! What the Hell?

Then in maybe the unintentionally funniest scene ever, she shoots the helicopter with her laser vision, it exploded and then just floats there in the air burning. The blades weren't even spinning! I laughed until I snorted. Ed Wood, Jr. is a genius compared to the masterminds behind this turd.

Fair amount of extras including a documentary on Indonesian film that convinced me once and for all that I never want to watch another movie from Indonesia.

5 out of 5 stars "Delivers Songs with Pure Emotion ... Stardust Memories ...Nat King Cole ... Passport Video".......2006-10-05

Passport Video celebrates the career of Nathaniel Adams Coles, known professionally as Nat King Cole (March 17, 1919 - February 15, 1965) was a popular American singer, songwriter, and jazz pianist --- "NAT KING COLE - STARDUST MEMORIES" (2005) (38 mins/B&W) ... One of the most beloved vocalists of all time, Nat King Cole paved the way for all African-American entertainers that came after him --- Having made huge inroads into the mainstream acceptance of jazz, the name of Nat "King" Cole has become synonymous with the genre ... the rich vocal stylings that deliver songs saturated in pure emotion, there's nothing quite like seeing Nat "King" Cole play live. STARDUST MEMORIES is a chance to see him perform in an intimate setting, with Cole working his magic on songs such as "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter," "Stardust," "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face" --- Watching this DVD is a trip down memory lane, more of a reflection of the choice and quality of Cole's performances in terms of what his fans would be looking for ... must overlook the audio and video of the times and the technologically limited, at least by today's standards.---- It's Nat "King" Cole at his very best!

There is no doubt about it--this DVD will wet your appetite for more of Nat King Cole, who stands on his own as a class act and amazing artist ... Nat King Cole's legendary contributions to music showcased his unique talents in a multitude of ways ... Responsible for what is quite possibly the best recording of a holiday song ever made, "The Christmas Song," --- holds the distinguished role and honor of being the first black musician to ever have a weekly radio and television show --- The television show was unfortunately cancelled because, in the racially charged atmosphere of the 1950s, no one was willing to sponsor it --- Although he died of lung cancer at a relatively young age, Cole's astounding body of work is timeless

The last episode of The Nat King Cole Show aired December 17, 1957 --- Cole had survived for over a year, and it was he, not NBC, who ultimately decided to pull the plug on the show --- NBC and Nat had been operating at an extreme financial loss due to the lack of sponsorship his show received --- Cole quipped shortly after its demise, "Madison Avenue is afraid of the dark." --- once again enjoy those vintage performances just as they appeared decades ago in the small tube...meanwhile pick up your copy of "Nat "King" Cole - Encore" from Amazon or Passport Video and relive those shows from Nat Cole the "King" of Jazz ... no fan of jazz or pop music should miss out!
