The good old days!.......2007-04-20
How they got the quality - both audio and video - as good as this is beyond me. Even with the best prints you would expect some fuzz. None here!
You either like this kind of stuff or you hate it. If you like it, you will love this one as I do. The highlights:
- Commando Cody trying to act. Or rather not trying at all. (The others aren't much better.)
- A total lack of logic, common sense or any sense at all
- A total disregard for the laws of physics and nature in general
- Lifting footage, costumes, weapons and everything else from about a dozen other serials
- Biff, bang, boom and car chases at the drop of a hat
- Flying to the moon in a suit and tie (and in 20 minutes or less)
- Explaining nothing, doing things for no reason, having things happen without cause and being surprised by the obvious. The "HUH!!!" factor I call it.
What's not to like!

Wild!!.......2007-03-12
This video is just pure fun. My wife had never seen any of this
before and couldn't wait to view the next episode. Sure, the
stuff is pure camp but it is very fun.
Commando Cody - Wham! Bam! Action Man.......2006-05-18
I used to be a fan of the band named after the series. Commander Cody and The Lost Planet Airmen. So it was only natural that I'd become a fan of King of the Rocketmen, also titled "Lost Planet Airmen". But that was a movie. A movie cut together from old Commando Cody serial adventures like this. It's great to see where these shows came from. The print is good and the storyline, well it's what you'd expect from a wham bam action serial, indeed better than most. Rocket man is not rocket science. Enjoy.
Super serial.......2006-03-03
Love it. The flying scenes are more realistic than most. It's your typical cliff hanger but a lot of fun. My wife and I watch a chapter each night. One of the main villians is played by the same fellow that played The Lone Ranger. He makes a great villian.
Proof we are not alone.......2004-06-28
A mysterious set of explosions leaves Commander Cody to the conclusion that we are under attack from an un known force. As we guesed from the title of the series it must be the "Radar Men from the Moon".
They've left nothing out and get to read the credits and even get to see the last chapter and find out what actually happened. Unfortunately if you only bought volume one you will not find out what happened on the last chapter. Volume two may not be available.
The series and should not be too violent for today's youngsters as most of the time everybody is just slugging each other and when they use guns they can't seem to hit anything other than other guns. If you're young enough this series is very suspenseful. Otherwise you spend most of your time thinking how dumb why didn't they do this or why didn't they do that. Anyway there is a lot of staying in the car scenes or stay in the Rocket ship scenes or don't fly to close scenes.

When will they ever learn?.......2005-05-10
More action packed chapters as the good guys consistently insist on being out numbered in fisticuffs and get the snot beat out of them every time; when will they ever learn? And we know why; if you listen closely you will recognize Clayton Moore (alias The Lone Ranger) with out his mask. Still they are persistent. Will it pay off and can Commando Cody save the day or will the bad moon leader Retik rule the Earth?
Chapters 7-12..........2004-06-19
The saga continues! Can Commando Cody possibly defeat Retik in time to save our planet? Is invasion imminant? The tension builds as Retik's earthbound cronies continue to cause havok, hiding their atomic gun in the back of a camouflaged delivery truck. Only Commando Cody can stop them! This one ends with the inevitible final confrontation between CC and Retik! Pop that corn and pour those cold drinks! RMFTM is an entire afternoon's worth of fun...
Great Fun!!!.......2003-07-11
Every Saturday morning, the kids and I watch cartoons and now they are hooked on serials after these DVDs!
Transfer quality was very good, no bells and whistles but none are advertised. Great fun!!

Radar Men still looks great.......2007-05-12
It was great to see the Lone Ranger (Clayton Moore) as a bad guy. The flying sequences still look great. Both the rocket ship flight and Camando Cody's flying scenes still are impressive. They must have used wires?

I bought on price, since there was no info about the disc. Turns out to be "Radar Men from the Moon" a Republic serial featuring Commando Cody and his flying suit. The controls are "up-Down and On-Off", but what else do you need with a flying suit?
All 12 episodes are on the disc. The picture and sound quality is excellent. And the story...
While there are unintentionally amusing bits (the chairs in the spaceship are office chairs such as the one I'm in now; the crook sets the plane into a dive and then pulls the steering wheel off an tosses it out the window) this one is fun.
Commando Cody (Commando seems to be his name, not a rank. Bet his parents were a scream) cuts a fine figure in his flying suit, but when he takes it off, he looks like your best friend's dad. And when he takes it off he's wearing a dress shirt and tie underneath. The female lead is typical filler. One of the guys objects to a woman on the spaceship and her rejoinder is, "You'll be glad to have someone along who can cook your meals." No feminism here, boys.
The special effects are actually pretty good. The ship appears to be fullsize among the mountains, and if the Moon and Earth both look like California, so be it. Each cliffhanger episode compels you to keep on watching. Not great, but fun.
As a glimpse into what your dad did for 12 Saturdays in a row, this one is priceless.

Customer Reviews:
Don't buy for the 3D!.......2003-02-19
If you're looking for an entertainingly corny '50s serial this is a good choice. But I made the mistake of buying it mainly because I already had the 3D system that can be used to watch a few IMAX movies like "Encounter in the Third Dimension" and "Haunted Castle", and this set is advertised as working with that system. Unfortunately, as it turns out the original serial was not filmed in 3D, so all they did was add some occasional 3D effects to a mostly 2D movie, like computer-animated debris coming out of the screen during explosions. So don't be fooled by Razor3D's advertising this movie as part of their "3D Sci-Fi Collection"--if you're interested in 3D movies you should look elsewhere.
Saturday Matinee History.......2002-08-30
There are several things that make this film important to Motion Picture History: It was among the last Saturday Matinee serials made by Republic Pictures; It contains Leonard Nimoy's first screen appearance; it was among the films influential in the youth of filmmakers like George Lucas and Steven Spielberg.
"Radar Men from the Moon" would be of interest to anyone wanting to add an example of a Saturday Matinee Cliffhanger to their collection. It has a more intelligent story in a genre not know for its intelligence. The special effects of the Lydecker brothers holds up pretty well, though it is far from the sophistication of today's cinema.
The premise is that men from the Moon come to the Earth in a Rocketship with a plan to take over the Earth. King is the head of a government agency established to deal with threats from Outer Space. He dawns a rocket propelled flying suit, and flies in his own rocketship, and works with a staff to detect the plots of the alien invaders and fight off their attacks.
"Radar Men from the Moon" was a sequel to an earlier Republic serial called "King of the Rocket Men".

Description
"Radar Men From The Moon," one of the last of the Republic serials, follows Commando Cody, Sky Marshall of the Universe (George Wallace) as he attempt previous Republic serials, such as the excellent flying suit scenes from "King Of The Rocket Men," "Radar Men" manages to pack plenty of action into its 12 chapters.

Recently I came across a low priced Radar Men From the Moon DVD and decided to get it on a lark. Now I'm hooked on serials and rocket men movies. The inner kid in me loves the rocket suit and the flying footage and the space ship and the big ray guns and explosions and stunts...!
Dumb But Fun.......2004-10-06
Radar Men From the Moon was made during Republic's decline and has many of that period's weaknesses including:
1. An extremely dumb hero: His top secret lab has no guards and has a large painting of himself in costume by the door. He keeps his top secret rocket ship parked unlock on an unguarded field near a country road. He gives up chasing bad guys who have a head start despite WEARING A ROCKET PACK that lets him fly fast speeds. After finding the main villain (who is as evil as Hitler but with more dangerous weapons) unconscious he doesn't bother killing him or taking him prisoner, but just steals a ray gun. And although he has stolen a ray gun that can destroy heavy tanks, he runs away from a tank pursuing him. And that's just the first chapter. The hero is also unbelievably stiff. It's as if Bush 43 and Al Gore had mated.
2. The villains are equally dumb: Instead of stealing parts to finish one of their evil machines (or getting parts sent down from their headquarters on the moon), the bad guys on Earth spend several chapters attempting to rob a heavily armed bank, kidnapping the hero's girlfriend for ransom, etc. because they are broke. I guess stealing from hardware stores is worse than committing genocide.
and, 3. There's nothing but cheat cliffhangers: The villain disintegrates the machine the hero is hiding behind as well as everything nearby. How did the hero escape? It turns out he was actually hiding behind an ornate footstool nowhere near the machine he was hiding behind (huh?). And the good old he-jumped-out-of-the-car-just-before-it-crashed routine is used not once, but several times.
Still, Radar Men manages to be fun, sexist ("you might need a woman on the moon to cook your meals"), 1950s cheese. And as for print quality, you can always trust Roan, Image or VCI.
great fun.......2004-04-14
Picked this up because it was cheap and gave it a look and loved it. From the reviews on here there are some awful copies out there, but mine is fine and not by Whirlwind. This is a good time and as 'hokey' as it is I really love this serial.

Not bad for a rocket pack hero.......2006-01-16
I was more impressed by the image and sound quality than anything else. Image did a great job on this DVD.
Proof we are not alone.......2006-01-15
A mysterious set of explosions leaves Commander Cody to the conclusion that we are under attack from an unknown force. As we guessed from the title of the series it must be the "Radar Men from the Moon".
When will they ever learn?
The good guys consistently insist on being out numbered in fisticuffs and get the snot beat out of them every time; when will they ever learn? And we know why; if you listen closely you will recognize Clayton Moore (alias The Lone Ranger) with out his mask. Still they are persistent. Will it pay off and can Commando Cody save the day or will the bad moon leader Retik rule the Earth?
very entertaining.......2005-01-04
