Description

Filmed two years before Predator, many have commented that Alien Outlaw could have been that film's inspiration -- An alien ship lands in a remote mountain location and its occupants go on a hunting party. And, yes, their prey is human! This science fiction adventure has been praised for its subtle social commentary and humankind's relationship with guns, friends and nature. Fashioned like an old comic book story, ALIEN OUTLAW is the second film that B-Western film star Lash La Rue did for Writer/Director Phil Smoot. Always starring in cowboy flicks that featured him with a whip, La Rue said, "They just won't let me put that thing down!" But in his last leading role, Lash La Rue breaks the mold in a film that features both guns and horses but allows him to put down his trademark weapon. Perhaps, as a result, this has been called La Rue's finest film performance. Bonus Features: Uncut and Available for the first time in the USA| Contains a New Widescreen (1.66:1 Anamorphic) and a New Full screen version| Commentary track with both the Writer/Director (Phil Smoot) and the Editor (Sherwood Jones)| Meet the Legends: A one of a kind interview as Republic "B" Western Star, Sunset Carson, interviews legendary "King of the Bullwhip" Lash La Rue| Meet the Ingénue: Sunset's behind-the-scenes interview with newcomer Kari Anderson| Behind the News: News Conference before the filming| Behind the scenes: Home video footage on the set of Alien Outlaw| Trailer of The Dark Power with Lash La Rue. 3 out of 5 stars Another fun regional outing from Phil Smoot & Co........2006-12-06

First off, if you're a fan of 80's B-movies and haven't seen THE DARK POWER (1985), then go out and get it NOW! It's an awesome low-budget drive-in funfest with goofy monsters, face-ripping, likeable characters and even some mild suspense. ALIEN OUTLAW was director Phil Smoot's follow-up to that film, and while rougher around the edges and not as purely entertaining, it's still worth watching.

Yet again, the film takes place in a small, rural North Carolina town. Karrie Anderson plays a sassy, gun-toting rodeo show cowgirl who's trying to make it big, and former Western serial star Lash LaRue (minus his trademark whip) is the local sheriff. The film gets rolling when a spacecraft crashes into a river, unleashing a trio of fishbowl-helmeted aliens (who are dead ringers of Ro-Man from ROBOT MONSTER) on the unsuspecting public. Naturally, it's up to Karrie and Lash to save the day.

Unlike THE DARK POWER, which was punctuated by comic book-style gore and a (slightly) more mature storyline, ALIEN OUTLAW plays out like a kiddie matinee movie made for adults. What I mean by that is, while virtually bloodless and filled with juvenile humor, there are the occasional dark moments, such as a jarring scene when a pretty college student is raped (off-camera) by one of the invaders. Still, for the most part this is a whole lot of fun; the sort of low-budget regional movie-making that we just don't see anymore. If you're a fan of oddball 80's fluff, then this is a must.

3 out of 5 stars Old Cowboys, Youthful Cuties, Alien Frogmen, & a Hoss.......2005-12-30

First, I did enjoy this movie and knew what I bought was going to challenge my personal integrity and value as a human being.
Alien Outlaw is a flick you might enjoy at a Drive In Movie that cost $1 per carload showing a few movies for that $1. As a child I enjoyed Lash La Rue and most of those old cowboy serials on 1950's T.V. programs, maybe you did too. These old cowpokes in this movie perform adequately for their age and it is nice to see them, most are gone now. Alien Outlaw is definitely one of those really strange cultish films and there are people on this planet who find it might be something to give them a great pleasure in it's ability to amaze and stupify. The Aliens are muggish frogmen and the cutie with the guns is very nice to look at as are most of the females, the dialogue is sorted, most of the actors try hard, Lash never uses a whip in this movie, ( I was disappointed) there is a horse and several 80's model cars, and a gas station. It may cause you to laugh. Small review. See the movie.
