Super Souvenir.......2007-07-02

I purchased the DVD of "dreaming Arizona" when I last visited the Grand Canyon. I purchased the HDDVD because I was curious about how much more clarity I could get with HDDVD. I own a Toshiba HD player that I purchased from Costco for [...]. I was blown away by the difference in picture quality. My DVD has been bumped from my shelf to storage. The menus that are accessible from within each title on the disc make it easy to explore the entire disc. I especially like the captions that rise from below the screen to show the location of the shot. I hope there are plans to make "dreaming Nevada" on HDDVD. I'd love to see Las Vegas on HD!

The best scenic HD DVD out there! .......2007-07-02

I purchased this HD DVD not really knowing what to expect. I haven't picked up a scenic DVD or HD DVD before, but when I watched this I fell in love. The video quality is top notch and I haven't had any problems playing this on my Toshiba player I picked up at Costco. My wife and I have enjoyed watching this HD DVD and it is great to put on in the background for our newborn because of the symphonic music and beautiful scenery. I look forward to more releases.

Great HD DVD if you love Arizona or just need a great Party Disc.......2007-07-02

This disc just came in and I have been playing it on my Toshiba A2 HD DVD player and it works great. The scenery is so beautiful and music takes me back to my trips to Arizona. It is a great disc for playing in the background for parties or remembering your trips to this great state. I have the DVD version of this disc and was exited to see it released for HD DVD. The video quality is great, the menus are easy to navigate, and I love the loop feature. This disc is worth every cent and you can't beat the price!

Most amazing movie yet on hd dvd.......2007-06-29

This is the best hd dvd i have ever seen. It blows away planet earth and King Kong. It is simply breathtaking. I had a little issue on my XA-2 but had it play wonderfully on my xbox hd dvd players. The scene with the penguins it to cry for, the color details, are simply spectacular. Eye candy, the best kind to show off hd dvd , the best format in the world

A Near Masterpiece of Both Antarctic Wildlife & Scenery.......2007-06-27

After ordering the HDscape Sampler HD-DVD (something I also purchased & reviewed on Amazon), I decided to take the plunge and order some more videos from HDscape. One of those videos happens to be Antarctica Dreaming, the one that stuck out the most on the entire sampler to me. I own the Xbox 360 HD DVD add on, and the video works like a charm. If it doesn't work properly, make sure you are signed into Xbox Live before starting the video. A firmware update might need to be installed that fixed menu glitches.

Its a dual format disc, meaning that it can be played on both regular DVD players & HD DVD players. The total runtime clocks in at just under an hour and a half, and can be viewed as either a nature documentary or an ambient music video with all of the same material. Contained within is breath-taking scenery and wildlife such as penguins, seals, and seabirds. It also features 6 additional mini-documentaries totaling a little over a half hour of bouns footage, and other written tidbits about the making of the film.

The video quality of the HD-DVD side ranges from average to above average. If you already own Planet Earth, know that it isn't better quality than that. But then again, I like to think of Planet Earth as the best looking HD-DVD to come out so far, so its difficult to compete with something so great. Antarctica Dreaming certainly has great footage and in some cases, excellent detail, but video issues are apparent if you are looking for them. Its most noticeable in scenes when it is snowing, and in some of the darker colors. Don't get discouraged though, it is only on a small percentage of the video and there is still plenty of things to like about the video. For what it is, I was truly impressed.

The audio seems to be toned down a little bit so that you can hear the commentator and the ambient music better. The sounds the wildlife make are very quiet and I don't know if its just me, but I would have loved to hear the sounds of nature more clearly than the ambience added. However, I think HDscape's vision is ambience, as seen from there sampler disc, where all but Antarctica Dreaming are pretty much purely ambient videos.

Overall, I would have to recommend this HD-DVD first over all the HDscape products, as this one serves as both ambient listening, and a nature documentary. The added bonus footage makes this even a better treat. If you have kids that liked the movies Happy Feet, March of the Penguins, or the newer Surf's Up, its definitely recommended. As for a nature documentary enthusiast, pick up Planet Earth first.

Nothing more than a DVD show casing Shu Qi's naked body. I loved it! I know she can be seen naked elsewhere but in this one DVD you'll see her naked, totally naked over and over again.

If that's what you're looking for, I was, this is the DVD for you.

Dreaming - Andre Rieu.......2006-03-25

I have never disliked anything Andre recorded. His presentations are always fresh and unique. This dvd called Dreaming is great because he talks and explains his feelings on making music and some of the backgrounds of he and his orchestra. It makes you feel somehow like you have become a friend and he wants you to know what he thinks of the music and the people surrounding him. I have most of his dvds and although some of the musical selections are the same beloved favorites, they are always presented in a down to earth people pleasing way that delights both young and old listeners.

Dreaming and Andre Rieu.......2006-02-16

I must say that this dvd of Andre Rieu is one of the most relaxing and interesting dvd's of his. I love the music and the stories that Andre tells, especially of his childhood days and how he was so impressed with musicians and violins, practicing, and how this was the fore-runner to his becoming the incredible violinist that he is today. His versions of "Send in the Clowns", "Morning", "Aria" from Madame Butterfly, "Ballade", and "The Gadfly"...many more, are so beautiful. He could play any song and make it sound so incredibly beautiful. I'm so impressed with him and the beauty, love and romance, and happiness that he exudes when he plays. I wish that I could thank him personally for all the happiness he has brought to me when he plays his wonderful violin music. The stories he tells in this dvd, and watching him tell these stories, brings me such pleasure. I NEVER tire of hearing and seeing it!

My son is in college in Maine for Marine Science. I saw this Cd in the eye doctors office. Every time I went it was on. It was so amazing. All the different fish and corcal. The color of the coral and how the fish hide was amazing.The fish I have never heard of most of them. I bought the Cd for my son for Christmas. He was amazed! We watched the CD so many time, and always found something new.

Great Undersea Atmosphere DVD.......2006-04-12

I own a few background/atmosphere type DVDs and this one is the one I reach for the most. After watching it straight through for a couple of times I enjoy it now in the background when I am cooking or sometimes reading. It is not a movie, no plot, dialog, etc.. For me it brings back pleasant memories of diving vacations and the accompanying music is very pleasant and light. The music to me fits beautifully with the amazing and professional underwater footage. There is a great variety of undersea life depicted in the footage and you can choose to watch with subtitles that identify what you are seeing. The DVD can also be played straight through, on continuous loop, or by selecting individual segments. I especially love the segments with the dolphins surfing and the sea lions playing, I find it hard to be in a bad mood when watching these segments.

Beautiful Coral Reef Life.......2006-03-23

First of all there's no words in this DVD. But you can turn on your subtitles if you like and it will tell you each description. It is really beautiful and fun, child friendly, the fish do eat-but there's nothing bloody or gross. There are a couple of sharks but they are just swimming by. It is relaxing but hard to take your eyes off the screen to get relaxed. And some of the music isn't exactly "getting to sleep" music. But the dolphins that "surf on the waves" are so much fun to watch, as well as the sea lions. You can tell some of the sea life really adore the camera and show off for it. A neat way to show off a new TV too! Also has uses for your computer such as screen savers and 30 high resolution pictures.

This film help break the barrier for Mexican cinema........2006-06-10

Came across this film just the other night and thought I give this one a try. "Dreaming of you," was humorous. Sexual coming of age films have a very narrow road to success in my book. They have to be believable without being explicit. This film has a great approach. Most foreign language films have a different point of view from the typical "Hollywood" film. Yet I found this film surprisingly "Hollywood" in its style but then again Mexican cinema has come along way referred by the previous reviewers. Mexican Cinema was under appreciated for such a long time and its lately getting the credit it so deserves. Check out its most recent film.

The director, Marisa Sistach, takes a good story by Jose Buil and Alfonso Reyes and keeps the pace moving, while getting solid performances out of the talented cast. Played as a comedy, the performances are never over the top. Well, Moises Ivan Mnora (Quique) pushes the envelope, but it is a good counter to Martin Altomaro's performance as Toto. Perhaps a little too low keys for your typical fourteen or fifteen year boy, Altomaro's performance makes the film work. His role has to be believable or the film will fail.

The sexual scene is done in the traditional compositing, long dissolves to reduce the explicitness while still retaining the intimacy. What is surprising to me is that you can do this type of scene with a male actor who is clearly under the age of eighteen. I doubt that you could have filmed this in the USA, not that it is exploitative. Leticia Perdigon and Altomare, however, are nude.

This a great film and I would recommend it to those who love foreign films and especially to those who had or is in to this affair, you know who you are. Happy viewing.

Great Mexican comming of age story!.......2004-12-20

I didn't have hopes for this movie being good. I was pleasantly surprised. Great story, great acting. A fun and not depressing comming of age story for a handsome 16 year old boy in Mexico City. He gets a surprise move in for what he thinks is a 11 year old girl cousin, she has grown up to be a hot hot hot older woman. He can't stop dreaming about her..she is dumped on by her neglectfull boyfriend..He lets his dreams be know to her...she eventually gives in to his strong boyish drive to be with an older woman...Ayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Que cosita linda Mama.

Finally they will make it available in the US!.......2004-05-22

I first saw this movie when I was in Mexico about a decade ago. Many of you will feel identified with this kid who falls in love with an older woman who lives next door. Everything is about the forbidden desire for a teenager in Mexico in the 1990's. I cannot wait for the DVD release. You will see a different movie which will send you back to your teenage years.

nice atmospheres and good musicians.......2005-08-10

Ottmar is one of the best guitarrists in the nouveau flamenco. He plays alive with his band acoustic music with percussions. Nothing to say about the quality of compositions but all the tracks are so similar (the style is this...) so all the concert is not boring but it's better if you are a good fan. Among the songs there are some interviews with Ottmar in which he tells something about him and his life. A good dvd for a romantic night and for whom loves this music.

Little Rock.......2005-08-09

As somebody who has a large range of Ottmar Liebert's music and consider his work to be of extremely high quality, and also the fact of living in Australia and not being able to see him personally in concert, I was more than impressed with the casualness of Ottmar and his band and how they combine together. It is of course unusual to see a player with a setting of many candles and barefoot playing on stage like that.
I just love Ottmar Liebert and his band Luna Negra and the way they present their music. Thank you.

I have never written a review before but I felt it necessary to add my opinion about this video since the previous ones were so terrible. Ottmar Liebert is an incredible composer and musician and he and his band are unbelievably tight. This video is mesmerizing and deserves an excellent rating. It is professionally done and the music is overwhelming.

Ordered this from Netflix, and had to own it. Commentary is part of video, and there are plenty of uninterrupted songs here. I was glad for the explanations, and insights as to how Ottmar writes.

If you are a guitarist, instrumental musician or arranger, you will find this fascinating. The simplicity of the arranging mixed with the skill of the musicians comes across beautifully.

I will use this as an example for my students.

Lum and Abner Feature #1 review.......2005-09-26

I found this and the Feature #2 companion DVD a reak kick in the old Nostalgia keister. I saw these movies in the theatre when they were first released. That gives you an idea of how old I am. The two movies on #1 were a little scratchy but considering how old they are and what they may have looked like before restoring them, I was very pleased. I have had worse copies of old movies. I can't say if the humor would hold up to most of the last two generations, but for any of us oldtimers, they are worth the price. The same with feature #2.

For the fans.......2005-11-22

I am a Crowdies fan, and this video was given to me by a friend who watched it once and then passed it on. It is great for me as a fan to have as far as collector's purposes, but I wouldn't recommend it to non-fans. Crowdies videos, with the exception of perhaps the ones from the Together Alone album, just aren't that good. Plus, the menu and extra features that go with this are quite stale, but that might be because it was released by Capitol, their North American company. It could have possibly been done better Down Under. For me, it's really a 3-star product, but as a fan I feel guilty giving it less than 4 stars.

Bottom line: Fans will enjoy it. If you're a fann wanting to Finn-doctrinate your frenz, though, or curious for the first time about the Crowdies, stick with just the music.

We loved you, Paul.......2005-03-29

Buy this simply to watch the lively, goofball antics of drummer Paul Hester, who always added much color to Crowded House, and nowhere is it more apparent than in this series of promo videos. CH was never an extraordinarily groundbreaking video band, but these clips are worth watching just to see the guys in action throughout a number of video styles that evolved over the years. Paul, by all accounts, was a funny and likable man who clearly kept his personal demons well-hidden. Often called "a frontman positioned behind a drumkit," he nearly steals all of these clips with his humor and silliness and his fans will always have that. RIP, Paul Hester.

Nice to watch once.......2005-01-12

To me, Crowded House are more of a band that you listen to, rather than watch. The videos are typical of the time they were filmed, some looking very dated now. All of their hit singles are included on this DVD with stereo or 5.1 surround sound as an option.

This is nice to own if you are a die-hard fan and need reminding of a great band that they were. However, as the majority of video clips are rather dull (also the guys aren't much to look at), your best bet is to just listen to your CD's.

Once only viewing.

like the beatles in that they dropped in for a decade and left behind a fantastic body of work. these videos showcase everything that made them great; finn's beautiful songs, the terrific chemistry and humor, and the look that isn't the least bit dated nearly 20 yrs later. not to mention superb musicianship. the best part about the collection is the fact that hardly any of these videos were seen in the states, except those from the first record(don't dream, something so strong, getting somewhere.) current mtv/vh1 clips are not nearly as technically beautiful. witness four seasons in one day or nails in my feet. this band made great art, but they didn't take themselves too seriously. what higher compliment? if you love the music,even though it was ignored here, you gotta have the dvd. more acts should collect and package their vids like this. crowded house rip!

"Dreaming: The Videos" encapsulates the entire career of Crowded House. Their videos were decent, but not great. I've seen much worse from the time period these videos spanned. There's a generous selection from all four of their albums plus two videos from their "Best Of" album. All the videos appear to be here. The "Catch 22" interview is really just a re-hash of their videos from their first album mixed with intermittent footage of an interview with the band. It could have been left off and no one would have missed it. Overall, this disc, minus the interview is 1 hour and 22 minutes. It's slightly over-priced for what it offers. Capitol should have made it a two disc set with the second disc offering a live concert of the band's choosing. If you are a Crowded House fan, this compilation should be suitable.

This one I will watch over and over again! The host of this documentary is so very charming and with her enthusiasm draws you completely into the story. Itýs obvious that she experienced a great journey herself while following the life cycle and migration of the monarch butterfly. Every detail is recorded with incredible accuracy. What an awesome biological phenomenon-butterflies by the millions migrating like birds to over-wintering sites thousands of miles away in Mexico and then coming back to North America in the Spring! The close-up sequences of the metamorphosis are amazing. Youýll see for example the striped monarch caterpillar shedding its skin and turning into a jade-colored chrysalis decorated with goldýitýs true, go see for yourself.

On the Wings of the Monarch is a beautiful film about a beautiful animal. I was very impressed by the detail in which they lead you through this amazing animals journey through life. Generally a very informative piece that takes you to some special places while following along this wonderful journey. The audience gets a full dose of what nature is about and why it should always be preserved. The Monarch butterflies are a noble species to back up a Royal effoft!

An educational fun film........2002-04-10

Haven been intrigued since childhood on the Monarch, I bought this film to see some footage of there voyage. What I got was a voyage of my own as I went along on their travels to Mexico and back. Truely amazing legacies exist in these insects that is captured and portraid by the creators of this video. Great photography!

This incredible documentary will make you fall in love with the Monarch Butterflies (if you are not already amazed with these magnificent creatures.) The quality of the video, the narration and the music are fantastic!!!
I think this is a great ENTERTAINMENT AND LEARNING AID for getting people interested in protecting this wonder of nature.
I highly recommend this tape for audiences of all ages.
