This sumptuous and moving 1994 film written and directed by Bernard Rose (Candyman) investigates the artistic and romantic passions of one of the greatest composers of all time. Featuring a superb performance by Gary Oldman (Sid and Nancy) as Ludwig van Beethoven, Immortal Beloved is full of uncommonly vivid, rich imagery as it charts the tumultuous life of the deaf child prodigy and his rise to the height of musical achievement. Along the way, he attempts to play mentor to his nephew, attend to his many passionate romances--the most stable one was with a countess (Isabella Rossellini)--and fight bouts of depression and madness that ruled his life and his art. The film is framed around a "Rosebud"-type letter found after the composer's death that makes up the crux of the story. Jeroen Krabbé (The Fugitive), playing Beethoven's lifelong friend, attempts to discover who Beethoven's muse really was, becoming as driven as his friend in discovering the unlikely identity of the composer's "immortal beloved." Through this we gain an insight into the nature of obsession, romance, and the heights and sacrifices of artistic achievement. The film exhibits some extraordinary sound design, and the finale features a magical encapsulation of Beethoven's life and loves set to his "Ode to Joy." As an exciting and passionate journey, Immortal Beloved is its own masterpiece. --Robert Lane
Customer Reviews:
Beethoven's Immortal Beloved.......2007-06-15
This take on Beethoven's love life may elicit giggles or outrage from scholars of this composer, but it made for a great movie! The characterization of Beethoven himself seemed rather extreme at times, but it made a valid point. I especially enjoyed the almost constant background music from the composer's great works, and the portrayal of life in general during this time was very vivid.
While it says nothing about the real life of Beethoven, the movie is a pleasant romance.......2007-06-05
While I admire Gary Oldman's acting abilities and some of his achievements in this film, the film itself has so many flaws that it is hard to forgive. It is vital to note right from the start that the story of this film has almost nothing to do with the life of the actual Ludwig van Beethoven. Oh, you could point to this or that biographical detail and claim that such an event occurred, but the movie wrenches everything so far out of context in the service of a fictitious romance that even the truths become false.
Since this movie is a romance, I think it would have been better if they had made up a name for the name Adrian Leverkuehn for Arnold Schoenberg in Doctor Faustus. Even this wasn't enough because in later editions Mann had to put in a disclaimer that Schoenberg had actually invented the twelve tone compositional technique and that Leverkuehn is fictional. We get no such disclaimers in this film and the violence done the actual Beethoven is far greater. I suppose if they had made up the name of a composer then they couldn't have used the true star of this film, the excerpts of Beethoven's music forming the soundtrack. The recording of this soundtrack was a pretty good seller back in 1994.
The funeral scene is pretty good. It was a mob and an even bigger event than shown in the film. I also like the way Beethoven's deafness was shown at times. However, in the periods shown in the film, his deafness was not as complete as it was later. His social awkwardness was not as deranged as it is shown in the film. Since we lack any sense of the social order of Beethoven's time, I suppose the filmmakers felt that the character had to be shocking for our time, hence the storming man in need of medication sadly unavailable in his time. No, Beethoven was shocking because he simply claimed priority for himself through his art.
But the whole premise of the film is foolish. There is a letter to an "Immortal Beloved" whose identity has been sought out since Beethoven's time, but Maynard Solomon made a very good case for Antonie Brentano back in 1972. And this woman isn't even in this film! The only reason people debate this issue is because people tend to like unsolved mysteries and romances. However, there are facts that point to Brentano and away from every other proposed candidate. And even the phrase "Immortal Beloved" might not be anything more than a clumsy man trying to say something romantic rather than something summing up his life's love.
While the scene is totally made up, I did find the scene of Oldman leaning close to the piano to play the "Moonlight Sontata" a nice effect. The scene of Beethoven stumbling through the "Emperor Concerto" never happened. Beethoven's hearing was bad enough that he knew better than to play in public by 1811. The first performer of the work was Friedrich Schneider, a local church organist in Leipzig. The Vienna premier in February 1812 was Carl Czerny, a Beethoven pupil and later a great piano teacher as well as performer.
Anyway, if you enjoy the film, fine. Just don't mistake ANYTHING in it as pertaining to the life of the real Beethoven. Especially NOT the identity the movie supposes for the "Immortal Beloved". Suspect every detail in the film because even events which have some connection to history are completely out of context. Oh, and there are a couple scenes of gratuitous partial nudity to make it seem more romantic, I guess. Just enjoy the movie as a romance and don't suppose you have learned anything about Beethoven and you will be OK. If it inspires you to go read about the actual life of Beethoven and his music, all the better.
Es müß sein........2007-05-29
One longs for a movie that treats a great artist's life as something other than the ravings of a madman.
While the wait carries on, however, IMMORTAL BELOVED is delicious entertainment. The mysterious woman of Ludwig von Beethoven's scrawled final testament turns out to be his sister-in-law, the widow of a brother killed by consumption, and--in the end--the mother of the nephew Beethoven snatched from her. The boy himself was an unfortunate soul who in the end turns out to have been flesh of Ludwig's flesh.
If this sounds a bit like supermarket tabloid stuff, well, the difference lies in that Ludwig von Beethoven was no momentary celebrity whose life will flare out after its requisite fifteen minutes of fame. On the contrary, Beethoven was one of the West's and indeed humanity's great artistic geniuses. A conspiracy tale wraps so much more satisfyingly around a life like his. This is especially so when the story is accompanied by the man's own music, played with ominous solemnity the London Symphony Orchestra under Sir George Solti's baton.
I somehow missed this film when it was released in 1994. Other things were going on. A Memorial Day weekend spent with the DVD is a pleasure that more than requites the wait. Jeroen Krabbé's performance as Friend-of-Ludwig Anton Schindler deserves at least the merit that Gary Oldman as Beethoven and Isabella Rosselini earned for their arguably lesser performances.
Krabbé becomes the film's dramatic center as he vollies between historical personages in an attempt to piece together the contours of Beethoven's loves. His stolid weightiness makes him perfect for such an anchoring role.
The filming (Chekoslovakia) is gorgeous and there is, always, the music.
IMMORTAL BELOVED turns Beethoven's life and death into a tragedy. Although the historicity that makes this artistic decision plausible is debatable, it is arguable that only a man well acquainted with the tragic could have written such enduring, powerful, seductive music.
Vielleicht, dann, es mußte sein.
Enchanting.......2007-05-25
I won't waste your tim with a long or droll review. I will simply say the New York Times is pretentious and overrated. Though it has been a couple years since I saw this movie, I rented it time and again and continued to enjoy it every single time. I am now buying for my husband, who enjoyed it even more so. Though I'm sure it was a dramatic view of the composer's life, it was positively wonderful. It wasn't just simply entertaining, it was enchanting.

Inconsistent production and confusing storyline.......2007-05-30
For the most part, I enjoyed this movie, but the experience was bumpy, mostly because the quality of the visuals were inconsistent. Some scenes were gorgeous, while others (the Gods in the pyramid, in particular) looked like something out of a 90's video game. The story was a little hard to follow, but if you like hard sci-fi, you'll probably enjoy it.
What a waste!.......2007-05-19
The movie is awsome and everything written in the other reviews is correct. Just one BIG screw up:
The original movie is in french. The original graphic novel was written in french. As showed in the special features the filmakers spent months to lipsinc the entire movie with the lines in french.
So why in heaven would they REMOVE THE ORIGINAL SOUND IN FRENCH FROM THE DVD??? What the hell did they have in mind??? There's plenty of space for both english and french sound!
BIG mistake! They didn't even put subtitles in the begining of the movie when the gods are speaking to each other in a weird language (neither french or english). What they say is VERY important for the entire plot. In the french version they included subtitles in this part...
Summary: Great movie, awful release...
Fantastic visuals, interesting story.......2007-03-22
I'd first like to take issue with the many references to Blade Runner. Simply because a movie has a film noir atmosphere and is set in the near-mid future doesn't make it a Blade Runner clone. The stories of these two films are nothing alike. Enough said there. :o)
Wow, this film looks fantastic. It's major eye candy from start to finish. I think the noir aspect goes slightly too far with the flying cars that look like the result of a 50's taxi getting a makeover on "Junkyard My Ride," but otherwise it's as fascinating to watch as the plot is fascinating to see unfold.
I love the animal-headed Egyptian gods who feature strongly (mainly Horus, the film's focal point), and the story built around him and the female protagonist is interesting. It draws just enough from mythology to feed the plot without trying to rewrite history, and the people and events surrounding them are interesting and relevent.
There is some ambiguity at times where you're not sure exactly what's going on and exactly what sort of future this is, but otherwise it's hard not to just sit back and be engrossed. Ultimately I disliked Horus but at the same time understood how deep his motivations ran, and that sort of thing is important in character-building. Visually...wow, what a piece of work he is.
I highly recommend this for any sci-fi fan, but even if that isn't your thing there's still a great story, great characters, and a nice noir feel to satisfy non sci-fi fans. The sci-fi aspect doesn't overwhelm the story, even given the fantastic visuals and eye-catching aircraft. Please support them and buy this so they'll make more.
What a Mess.......2007-02-18
It's too bad that Bilal chose to direct this himself. Another director might have been able to keep the story on point. While the visuals are well done, they are highly derivative (Blade Runner anyone?) and they are not enough to make this sloppy story worth watching. Were this a longer format piece, it might be better in that all of the random tangents would eventually be given the opportunity to pay off, but as it is Immortal's just a beautiful mess.
Supreme Science Fiction Fantasy Visuals.......2007-02-09
Okay, the movie is not typical and many people will be turned off by the slow pace and lack of familiar references. But the film itself is art. Bilial, the artist behind the film; it's based on one of his graphic novels that I knew from the Heavy Metal Magazine (which has little to do with the music genre of the same name); is an influential graphic artist that has illustrated literary work.
The special effects and sets of Immortal, and this is not a huge budget film, are fantastic and richer than anything in Blade Runner. I admit George Lucas did a good job on the sets of the last two Star Wars movies, but Immortals' sets are just as good, more detailed and you have time to see them.
A cerebral film for lovers of fine SF/fantasy/animation.

Description
Just a few months before entering the Service in a real-life role, Henry Fonda starred in this movie as a shy, self-doubting corporal who is thrust into a life-and-death position of leadership when his sergeant is killed. The danger and hardship of desert warfare are brought vividly and realistically to life in this production, one of the better war movies made during World War 2, Co-starring Maureen O'Hara, Immortal Sergeant is as thrilling as it is inspirational.
Customer Reviews:
Combat War Movie.......2007-02-07
It was interesting seeing Henry Fonda in Immortal Sergeant. He was young when he played the part of this combat soldier in this movie. I know years later he played in other war movies like Battle of the Bulge and Midway.
Well balanced war drama starring Henry Fonda.......2007-01-14
I could relate to Henry Fonda's character Colin Spence in the 1943 film "Immortal Sergeant" a lot more than some of the other rifle wielding Infantry heroes you see in the older war films. Immortal Sergeant has a special place in my collection now, and upon further research, I'm surprised fans of classic WWII films or even Henry Fonda fans far and wide overlook this movie in general.
One fact I learned was that this was the last movie Fonda himself starred in before joining up and fighting in WWII. The title of this film is not, however, referring to Cpl. Spence, but I'll get to that in a moment.
The plot surrounds that of a Canadian man (Colin Spence) who struggles to become a writer, while the whole time the rest of his friends are going off to war. One day he finally makes the decision to go, staving off Officer Candidate School for enlisting as a grunt in the British Army. Spence also has to struggle with the fact that he has not been forward enough with the love of his life, and another man seems to be entering the picture. As Cpl. Spence fights through the unbearable heat of the Libyan Desert, his sergeant, who discovers great potential hidden within Cpl Spence's reluctant soul, soon befriends him. It takes a strange and bloody sequence of events for Spence to realize his potential, unless of course, the desert does not kill him and his men off first!
Henry Fonda is superb as Cpl. Colin Spence. Fonda's ability to play a good hearted, somewhat shy man with higher principles and values than the average Joe does not go unseen. His worrisome character is convincing enough to have the viewers worry for him, and hope for the best possible outcome. Thomas Mitchell plays Sgt. Kelly, a veteran of the First World War and a jolly, laid back man who is still an excellent leader on the battlefield. The camaraderie between the Sergeant and Cpl. Spence is brief, but is the great middle connector for the movies overall script. Maureen O'Hara is beautiful in this black and white film, and does a great job portraying the somewhat coy Valentine, Spence's girlfriend. Follow Cpl. Spence on his journey of heartache, personal achievement and redemption.
The battle scenes in the movie are enjoyed for their Hollywood nostalgia more than anything. Studio Sets of desert scenes when the men are resting and eating just add to the character development. Top that off with bombers, armored cars and an epic cloak and dagger scene at an oasis, and you have all the ingredients for a Great War drama
An engaging wartime movie about a decent man, played by Henry Fonda, who learns to fight for a good cause.......2006-07-14
"You know, if anything happens to me you're in command," says Sergeant Kelly (Thomas Mitchell) to Corporal Colin Spence (Henry Fonda). They're lost in the Libyan desert with only three gallons of petrol left for their remaining armored car, almost no water and a busted compass. Sergeant Kelly started out with Corporal Spence and twelve other men on a routine patrol. Three German fighters changed things. Now there's only Sergeant Kelly, Spence and four others.
"Nothing's going to happen to you, sergeant," Spence says. "I mean, it can't."
"It won't, lad, if I can help it. Still, if I stop a packet it's up to you to get this patrol back...and that's not an easy job."
"But I'm no leader," Spence says. "I haven't had the experience to take up a command like this with other men's lives depending on me. I can carry out orders but I can't give them. I'm just a civilian with a couple of chevrons on my sleeve."
The Immortal Sergeant tells us the story of Colin Spence, a small-town reporter from Canada in England, who is shy and not really able to accomplish the things he wants. Please note that while elements of the plot are discussed, the key elements are all described on the DVD case. It's obvious Valentine (Maureen O'Hara) loves him but he just can't seem to recognize the signals. Just before he enlists, she and Colin meet an old friend of Colin's at a party. Benedict (Reginald Gardner) is now a famous war correspondent. "Good old Colin. I tell you this lad has a head on his shoulders," says Benedict to Valentine. "I'm afraid he's a little bit too self-effacing for the times, though. You know, like the good old democracies. Nice, but a little bit too civilized for his own good, eh Colin?" Benedict smoothly moves in on Valentine and Colin can only look on.
Spence keeps remembering Valentine while he and the rest of the patrol struggle through the desert. Now on foot, the sergeant leads the men in an attack on an isolated German armored car. They hope to find water and perhaps even capture the car and drive back to their own lines. The sergeant is clear about what they must do. "This war, like every other war, is going to be won by men on their feet with guns in their hands. And don't you forget it," he tells them. But the car is destroyed in the attack, the cans of German water with it, and two more men in the patrol die. The sergeant is one of them. Colin Spence has no choice but to take command now. And slowly, as he faces the reality of the situation, he becomes more forceful and more resourceful. The three other men, one a little reluctantly, accept his leadership. He knows he doesn't have the answers. He relies on his memory of Sergeant Kelly and his memory of Valentine to keep him moving forward. At the climax, he leads a desperate attack on an oasis guarded by three times the number of Germans. It is an attack which is bravely led and fought.
Back in a Cairo hospital, Colin Spence sums it up. "I had to come all the way out here to meet a tough sergeant named Kelly who was born in a slum and educated in an army camp before I was fit for a woman like Valentine. He's dead now but he taught me one thing...if I ever want Valentine or anything else worthwhile in life I've got to fight for it. That's not a bad thing for a man to find out...or for a nation, either, for that matter...to fight."
This is an appealing war-time movie with little of the bravado and obvious emotional string-pulling of most war movies. Thomas Mitchell gives a fine performance and Maureen O'Hara would be any man's dream of the woman waiting back home. What takes this movie out-of-the-ordinary is Henry Fonda. Did any major Hollywood star, before or after, combine so effectively almost naive honesty, decency and acting skill. We sympathize with Colin Spence's shyness; we sympathize with Spence's nervousness at the idea of being in charge if his sergeant is killed; we see and approve of Spence's taking on the responsibility of leading the remaining men of the patrol; and we come to admire his dedication to do the right thing, to fight against the odds for a good cause. The Immortal Sergeant is a film that with time sort of slipped between the cracks. DVD has brought it back and it's worth seeing.
The DVD transfer is just fine. There are no significant extras.
Immortal Sergeant.......2002-07-06
This is one of the early World War II movies(1943). It is very well done and extremely entertaining. The story of the mild mannered soldier that is forced to take command in a very difficult situation is presented in such away that the viewer is enthralled with the character. Henry Fonda was perfect for the role and he brought the transformation from a weak timid man to a heroic soldier off with great finese. I loved this movie. If I had been in the audience in 1943, I would have rushed out and bought the war bonds that were advertised at the end of the film.

Bruce Lee was an amazingly prolific, influential, and graceful man, and his mark on the world have been assured even if he hadn't made a single film. But those five films he made as an adult (he was a child actor in Hong Kong before returning to the U.S.), along with his untimely death, have captured the imagination of generations of martial arts fans. Because of his high profile, though, Lee's life has been well documented over the years--so this A&E Biography proves somewhat redundant, despite its quality. The Immortal Dragon may be more accurate than other offerings--Dragon, the Lee bio that starred Jason Scott Lee (no relation, but a remarkable resemblance), is probably the most entertaining--but there aren't enough revelations here to make it indispensable. At a scant 50 minutes, The Immortal Dragon may not have enough time to fulfill on its initial promise. How unlike Lee. --Randy Silver
Description
He fought his way from the mean streets of Hong Kong to international superstardom. With blazing fists and a burning passion, he became one of the most celebrated kung-fu masters of all time. In classic films like Fists of Fury and Enter the Dragon, he created the martial arts action genre that has become a favorite of moviegoers worldwide. But just as he reached the height of fame, he was struck down by a mysterious ailment or was it the curse that supposedly follows his family? This fascinating program examines the short, meteoric life of Bruce Lee. Exclusive interviews with friends and family including his late son Brandon and extensive footage from home movies, screen-tests and his legendary films help reveal the man behind the myth of the Immortal Dragon.

phylography.......2007-05-18
If someone told me "Bruce Lee was a philosopher" a few years ago, I would have laughed out loud.
I've loved Bruce Lee as Martial Arts expert/performer/action_movie-pioneer for years and years, but the stuff I read about Bruce Lee's philosophy and ideas in general was always muddy, oddly put together, and or tough to read.
This bio is concise, informative, and not repetitive the way a lot of early A&E Biographies were. And of course, the best thing about this DVD, is that you see and understand that Bruce Lee was more than a physical phenom that moved (more than anyone I've ever seen) in what could be posted in wikipedia as "Poetry in Motion."
Truely expressing oneself.......2007-02-20
This Biography in my opinion was definately one of the best introductions to how Bruce really was. It shows and tells about him as a person all around, a 360 degree profile. From when he was acting as a boy, to becoming the martial arts master he lives on through this documentary of the legend that is Bruce Lee. Out of all his movies, this is the one I've probably watched the most. It helps capture the essence of his character. A very inspirational telling about his art and the steps he had to take in order to achieve the level of fluidity and beauty he produced, or better yet, was produced through him. 5 out of 5 most definately
The Best Bruce Lee Documentary Available.......2005-10-03
This is without doubt the best Bruce Lee documentary for sale. I say this because the very best one was the first BIOGRAPHY that A&E aired in the early 90's, but due to not having secured the legal rights, they were forced to destroy the master print and make a new one (the one on this review). It is a shame, because if this one is still a five star bio, the other one was a true masterpiece of editing, color, soundtrack, rarer clips from Lee's appeareance in tv shows like IRONSIDE and training footage. And seemed like it was put together as a labor of love. This one is excellent too, but lacks the depth and warm of the other one. Still highly recommendable though.
A Great Talent.......2000-09-04
Viewing this Sepcial on Bruce Lee was something else.he had a Amazing Career.he broke so many Barriers.he was a true Original.he brought a Spirited Vibe to his Craft. He Left this Earth all to soon.He was a Genius.

This 1986 fantasy/action thriller has since spawned two sequels, a popular syndicated TV series, numerous comic-book spinoffs, and a loyal (if somewhat oddly obsessive) following of fans. Directed by music video veteran Russell Mulcahy (which explains the dizzying camera work), the original theatrical release made hash of an intriguing story about an "Immortal" from 16th-century Scotland (Christopher Lambert) who time-leaps to modern-day America with his archenemy (Clancy Brown) in hot pursuit. It becomes a battle to the death (yes, Immortals can die), and Lambert seeks survival training from an Immortal mentor played by Sean Connery. Dazzling, energetic, and altogether confusing in its original form, the film has since been released on video, laserdisc, and DVD in this revised widescreen "director's cut," with additional footage, director and producers' commentary, a photo and artwork archive, the original trailer, and an official time line of the film's evolution from script to screen. A must for Highlander fans ... and you know who you are! --Jeff Shannon

The Original Highlander - Cult Classic.......2007-07-03
1986's "Highlander" is a good science fiction movie with an exceptionally intriguing concept for a storyline, that a race of immortals live among us and are battling to the last man for an unnamed prize. The concept fueled three big screen sequels and at least two TV series. This is the movie that started it all.
The movie proceeds along parallel story arcs. In one, an antique dealer named Nash, played by Christopher Lambert, battles a series of immortal opponents in modern day New York, while attracting the attention of a curious female police scientist named Brenda (played by Roxanne Hart).
In the second story arc, a Scots Highlander named Connor MacLeod (also played by Lambert) who, after being mortally wounded in battle in 1536, discovers that he is immortal. Connor is sought out by an even older immortal named Ramirez (perfectly played by Sean Connery) who teaches him how to fight and how to avoid losing his head to another immortal. Ramirez prepares Connor for the necessarily lonely life he will have, outliving the mortal humans around him. Ramirez also prepares him for an eventual rematch with Kurgan, the evil seven-foot giant immortal who first wounded Connor in battle.
The two story arcs will come together in New York City in the present. Nash, as Connor now calls himself, finds himself falling in love with Brenda just as his old nemesis Kurgan arrives for "the Gathering", the final battle of immortals. Connor and Kurgan (played by Clancy Brown) will maneuver for a final confrontation at swordpoint that only one of them can survive.
"Highlander" was apparently strapped by a small budget that limited production values and special effects, but the producers more than made up for this with beautiful location shooting in Western Scotland, a magnificent score by QUEEN, and some well-staged action sequences. The interaction between Macleod and Ramirez is priceless, as Ramirez imparts both fighting skill and friendship to the young Macleod.
This movie is highly recommended as an exceptionally entertaining experience to science fiction fans and to fans of the later versions of this storyline.
highlander.......2007-05-12
I have seen this movie a quite a few times. It's one of my favorites. I was suprised with added scenes.
There can be only one!.......2007-05-09
I must admit that this is one of my favorite movies. I saw this when it first came out and loved it. Just imagine the premise, although some people think it is silly, back in the 80's (when I originally saw it) it was cutting edge, the concept I mean. Connor MacLeod is an immortal, who has lived for centuries, shunned by his village and hunted by some. He has outlived his true love and realizes that his gift (i.e., immortality) is a double edged sword..meaning while he lives forever, those he loves will not. Mentored by Ramirez, played by a dashing Sean Connery, Connor sets forth to simple stay alive and protect his secret. Leap forward to modern day New York an we see MacLeod is wealthy and living life as a recluse. Hunted by those who want his power, attracted to a woman who wants to learn his secret, we learn that other immortals are trying to behead him and receive the "quickening" (his immortality and power). Destined to live forever, because he can be killed and yet wake up later, with the exception of beheading of course, Connor sets out to protect his interests, his secret and maybe get the girl. What I think I liked more about the original, than the television series (which was made years later) is that Christopher Lambert has a haunted quality about him that simply takes your breath away. As he roams the Scotland countryside, and takes care of his aging wife, who he loves passionately, you realize that he will be alone forever. Although later sequels were not as good, his eyes (which seem to look into your very soul) will always leave a vivid image of someone who is well troubled and yet hopeful. But what is most powerful about this original is the cinematography...Scotland is absolutely beautiful! So rent it or purchase it, you won't be sorry.
Dont be scared, its a decent copy.......2007-03-23
After hearing several reviews of dvd versions of the film I was terrified to purchase any but went with it anyhow. I'm a film freak as well but the quality of the release is acceptable. Its not like they filmed movies back then with crystal clear High Def cameras with 7.1 speaker setups in mind! And who knows what the requirments are for a full digital restoration. You've got to cut it some slack considering the time and budget it was filmed on.
I didnt see it in the theatre so I can't make version comparisons but it is just like I remember seeing it on tv as a kid(minus a scene or two). Its a bit goofy, but its no goofier than any film from that period or any worse quality.
If you remember it from way when or are another Sean Connery fan, go with it, its worth the couple bucks. If you've never seen it then dont get it with expectations of it holding up to this years films. Overall worth what I paid!!

[Edited-DVD Content Update Form for Amazon.com- 5-4-05] [250 words]
Dr. Joe Dispenza is one of 14 scientists, researchers, and teachers featured in the multi-award-winning film, What the BLEEP Do We Know!?
This DVD suggests that becoming a skilled observer may empower us to exercise a greater degree of mind over matter. Drawing on new findings in neuroscience and quantum physics, it explains how people have experienced spontaneous remissions of diseases by learning how to "rewire" their brain.
Quantum science tells us an observer directly affects the nature of reality. Electrons behave like waves of probability until an observer looks for their position; then, they demonstrate characteristics of particles, i.e., solid matter. If observationputting conscious attention on any one thingcan affect the material world, then by mastering that ability, can we have greater control over our future?
Neuroscience is showing us how thoughts shape reality. The brain's 100 billion neurons connect in diverse combinations called neural networks. When we welcome new thoughts and experiences, our neurons respond by wiring together, a learning process termed neural plasticity. Through concentration and repetition of thoughts, neural circuits become "hard wired."
Are we basing our thoughts on what we've already wired in our memory, restricting the level of mind with which we view reality? Is our familiar environment monopolizing our thoughts, producing only routine experiences?
As observers within the quantum field of potentials, perhaps we are only limited by our knowledge and observation skills. If by developing these abilities we can rewire our brain, we should produce tangible changes in our life.

Finally someone who can teach us the nature of Nature.......2007-03-22
This powerful lecture is the single best, most accessible and cogent representation one can view if truly interested in the new and emerging science of possibilities. Blah, Blah, Blah. You don't need to see this review. You need to see this DVD.
Thanks Dr. Dispenza!!!

it has all the info you will need
"Mastering the Art of Observation" is a complit waste of time
now... how do I get my money back?
Just a "What the Bleep" Outtake!.......2006-07-05
Whoa! Don't waste your money, folks! I'm a huge What the Bleep fan, and I enjoyed Dr. Dispenza the most out of all interviewees. But this is truly a very disappointing one hour "ADD-adventure" further explanation of the point he made in the Bleep film. Not at all worth the money. If ANYTHING, buy it used. I guarantee many folks will be giving theirs up, looking to get some of that price back.
Not For the Weak of mind..........2006-03-19
This video is an incredible beginning to a four DVD set which helps people understand the process of expanding your mind to things "out of the box". If you're not willing to expand your mind...don't waste your money, but if you are, then sit back listen, imagine and take a ride into the "new you"! It might be helpful to understand some basic elements of quantum physics (don't be scared...it isn't THAT tough) and see the movie "What the Bleep Do We Know?! as it does lend some insight to what Dr. Joe will be talking about.
Mastering Observation - is difficult to Observe.......2006-01-30
I have to say I found it difficult to pay attantion to. It would have been better in audio form. Dr. Joe Dispenza had very interesting perspectives but the camera man did not. It's a continuous/edited shot of Dr. Joe Dispenza sitting in a chair against a not too pleasing background, pretending not to be nervous, swallowing and gulping and burping under his breath as if he just ate lunch - FOR OVER AN HOUR. I didn't fall asleep only because watching him MADE ME ANXIOUS. Again - I loved what he said but I had to watch it again while lying in bed with my eyes closed! Please Dr. D, for your next lecture, GO WITH AUDIO or give us a LITTLE more eye candy - e.g. "What The Bleep".

Customer Reviews:
Mindless entertainment.......2007-05-07
The Immortal is a pretty obscure, fairly mundane TV show that doesn't really stand out from a half dozen others it blatantly rip off. In fact, the Highlander series is probably superior in many ways, and very similar I might add. I never thought I'd catch myself paying a backhanded compliment to the syndicated Highlander series. I honestly don't know why I bought this - I really have no excuse. It basically follows the "monster of the week" format, and naturally features Lorenzo Lamas beating them up and then eventually stabbing them with a samurai sword. Lamas, by the way, is still basically the same character he was in "Renegade", only now he is immortal and carries a sword. What a stretch.
There Can Be Only One...LORENZO LAMAS!.......2007-02-21
Why do you Highlander goons want to take shots at Lorenzo? Everyone knows that the lead character in "The Immortal," Raphael Cain, is not based on any Highlander character from the movies, TV show or Animated Series. Nope, Cain is based on Soldier Kelly from the "Snakeeater" trilogy, possibly the greatest action movie trilogy ever. In "The Immortal," you have all the elements that made "Snakeeater" great: the sidekick (Goodwin, the squire, played by Steve Braun), the "he's just misunderstood" psychologist (played by April Telek) and of course, Mr. L2 himself beating and slicing the crud out of everything in sight. Throw in a little demon-slaying action and you've got a new, re-vamped and upgraded "Snakeeater" ready for the jungle that is 21st century syndicated television. Why didn't they let me pitch this idea?
Well, anyway, the series was cancelled before all the episodes were shown (on WGN in my neck of the woods), so if you are a fan of the show, this dvd set is a dream come true. I found the series enjoyable and my only complaint about it was the huge number of commercials. Of course, that complaint is addressed with the dvd collection. I'm looking forward to this, and collectors better snap it up as I doubt there will be many copies made. Looking for the dvd equivalent of the fabled "Mystery Meat" Vinyl LP that sold for thousands of dollars on eBay a couple years back? You may be looking at it!
What is wrong with everyone?.......2007-02-15
For anyone who thinks this program might be good, run as far as you can from this cheap knock-off starring Lorenzo Lamas. This is an outrageously bad rip-off of the excellent Highlander TV series. Invest your money in the Highlander DVDs, guys. Trust me. I notice that some readers think this review isn't helpful. Well, you're gonna be in for a huge surprise if you ignore my review and buy this dumb series. I have seen every Highlander film numerous times and every episode of the TV series . . . so I consider myself a Highlander expert. When I tell you the "Immortal" is a cheap rip off, trust me. Lorenzo Lamas is no Adrian Paul!
Oh! The NEW The Immortal TV Series..........2007-01-31
I got so excited when I read this was being released THINKING it was the ORIGINAL 'The Immortal' TV Series from the 1960's - WHAT A LETDOWN! I had
never heard of THIS new version and I suspect there is a reason for that!
For those of us who liked this show................2006-12-04
this DVD has been long awaited. I don't have cable and never saw the Highlander TV show, so I didn't have any prejudices about ripoffs. Lorenzo Lamas is not hard to look at and the demon slaying storylines were appealing to this Buffy/Angel fan. Bret "The Hit Man" Hart was a guest star and I was really hoping he would be a recurring character. And then the show was cancelled. Well, now I'll get to see every episode I missed.
