5 out of 5 stars Amazing Jeff Corwin.......2007-06-11

These 3 episodes are amazing they are in 3 different places (asia and africa ) with different and beautiful creatures .
you will find interesting information and more more laughs , i think spend hours with jeff corwin is amazing time .

5 out of 5 stars Educational and fun at the same time.......2007-02-10

Having been very fond of the work of Steve and Terri Irwin, I've only recently discovered Jeff Corwin as another person who is passionate about wildlife. I would definitely recommend this DVD for both children and adults who want to learn more about wildlife and care about preserving it for future generations. This DVD offers three episodes from Borneo, Zanzibar and Indonesia. You get to meet lots of interesting and endangered animals (turtles, snakes, insects, birds, primates, etc.). The little baby turtles and orangutans are beyond adorable. Jeff Corwin does a good job engaging his audience across all age groups. Some of the information and humor maybe beyond preschoolers, but I couldn't find anything that was offensive or inappropriate.

3 out of 5 stars Parental Guidance needed - at least.......2005-12-26

My 5 year old loves Jeff Corwin, animal planet, and animals in general. Unfortunatley, some of the language choices in this video are inappropriate for the little ones.

5 out of 5 stars Ehh Heuup! .......2005-12-16

I reckon it gits bout all five of dem gems. Sit back in dat rockin chair with a nice chilly glass of cow juice to this one here. It'll make ya's smile from ear ta ear, and I reckon tha Misses will watch it wit ya too cause my cows were even tickled by it. Ehh Heuupety Heuup!! Jeff does a real fine job wit dem animals and he ain't afraid of dem Copper Bellied Water Moccasins or dem cattle eatin chicken cobras!! Jeezy Peezy, dis was a mighty fine program and I gonna watch dis one til I'z at least a real ol' fart. Dis here is how ya edumacate ya'self!!! Gitty Up!

5 out of 5 stars A great show!.......2005-10-09

If you like nature shows, you should check out Jeff Corwin. He is intelligent and a good teacher, and the boyish whit is a total bonus, in addition to the incredible and rare animals he features. What sets Jeff apart from the other animal people is he isn't over the top and sounding like he's talking to kids (think Croc Hunter), but he is far from being bland or awkward in front of the camera like many of the other shows I've seen. He's a charismatic natural in front of the camera. I enjoyed this show with my husband before we had kids, but I couldn't wait to play this DVD with my 3 year old today to see what she'd think. She was completely engrossed! Some of humor admittely goes over her head, but when the kids are around age 6, they'll not only be interested in seeing all the wild animals, but they'll get the goofy jokes and will laugh as hard as me.

Buy this show! You'll love it, trust me!

All ages-- 5 stars. Enjoy!

3 out of 5 stars SOS Planet.......2007-04-12

Very good 3-D, mediocre movie. The 3-D works very well, but most is computer-generated instead of real video. It is a great addition to you HQFS 3-D collection.

4 out of 5 stars Great Effects...but is Environmentally Focused.......2006-04-12

Sure this DVD is about environmental issues (reason for 4 stars), global warming, ect. but the special effects are spectacular! You have anything from a giant octopus popin' out of the screen at you, to monkeys throwing fruit through your tv screen! It is true most of the action is CGI, though there are a few live feeds. Overall, beyond the plot, its a fun 40 mins. Great for the whole family, kids will get a kick out it, gee my Father actually liked it, go figure!

P.S.
Most of the bonus features are in 3d, as well as, trailers for other DVDs like Haunted Castle, Alien Adventure(if you want a sneek peak before buying!)

3 out of 5 stars Not bad...........2005-10-05

....but it's yet another IMAX CGI animated 3D outing (the field-sequential shutter-glasses type of 3D). Walter Cronkite (yep, he's still alive) narrates this excuse to explore computer-generated 3-D eco-systems (ocean, rain forest, etc.). Strictly for those into the "underground" field-sequential 3D cult.

2 out of 5 stars ALICE IN FUNGILAND.......2004-09-04

It amazes me that so many reviewers rate a movie on how much T&A and/or nudity there is. If it's not relevant to the plot, it's merely padding for a usually dull movie. Alice Krige is a beautiful woman, and a mesmerizing actress. However, Alice is lost in this ludicrously staged movie. Also, why do they constantly get actors with thick accents (like Tcheky Karyo) to reveal important plot points. You need to turn on your subtitles just to see what they're saying.
Balthazar Getty is very ineffective in his leading role, not much better than a high school thespian in their first role; Laura Harris (The Calling) is okay in her first role, but she's not really given that much to do; Kenneth Welsh tries to act like Vincent Price in his role as the coach, but can't achieve the flashy overacting he so obviously intended; Brad Austin as the somewhat studly Blaine comes on like a young Travolta, but can't match the intensity; the special effects which basically consist of a bunch of flashing dots is mundane. The plot about the ultimate evolution is so incoherent, it doesn't truly make sense, and the ending is flat.
Not the classic some people suggest; merely a waste of time.

4 out of 5 stars Be Careful of Growing Things Indoors.......2004-06-29

I had a pleasant surprise after seeing the video Habitat. The surprise was that it was quite well done (no pun intended) and rather uplifting. I have since had to add the DVD to my collection.

The Earth's ozone layer has been completely destroyed. People stay indoors and only dare to venture out at night. But one scientist is looking to bring back the greenery, but indoors. Combining fungi and various plants, the scientist hopes to create a new ecosystem. Runaway failures have forced him and his family to be on the run. At his latest location an underground pocket of water causes a disaster in the basement lab and the organisms mutate and spread through the house. The scientist becomes infected with the new organisms and dies (or so it seems).

As the new ecosystem gains more control of the house, it is learned that the scientist is not dead, but has been transformed into an energy-like state. In this state he is able to attack people and make them immune to the sun's burning rays. But eventually the authorities catch up and try to stop the ecosystem. While they manage to destroy quite a bit, they are unsuccessful at stopping this new hope for the world. Man will no longer have to huddle in the dark and rely on artificial foods.

I really enjoyed this one. I was expecting some fun schlock but found higher quality lurking in the cheesy box. The necessity of camera angles and visibility make the sun shades look rather inefficient but all in all quite well done.

5 out of 5 stars Intelligent Sci-Fi.......2004-04-24

Okay, here's my theory of why so many people don't like this movie: Perhaps someone hears about the three nude scenes (don't forget the science lady who's clothes get ripped up just right)plus some nice see-through outfits. So they're thinking, Hey! there's no good T&A flicks on Cinemax tonight, so let's go get that movie! They go rent it, and lo and behold, it actually has this really deep story that lays on the science pretty heavily, where you have to be very alert and somewhat intelligent to understand everything the characters are talking about. Well, if you're just watching it for a few nude scenes, then you're going to be really upset and disappointed with the rest of it!
This movie is very well thought out, the special effects are very convincing (the house really does give you the creeps), the script is beautifully written, and the actors pull it off splendidly. I love some of the lines in this movie, such as when Clarissa (Alice Krige) tells the bully that comes into the plant-infested house, "Young man, you don't go barging into the animal den. You may end up on the wrong side of the food chain." Another favorite line is "Through the bonds of matrimony, copulation is no longer fornification. It's procreation." These aren't direct quotes-I'm going from memory. Anyway, this is indeed one of those forgotten gems in which a small budget was used to make a great piece of work, much like The Wraith or Sleepwalkers (another with Alice Klige at her best). Give this movie a try when you're in the movie for some serious, yet highly entertaining sci-fi that really makes you think.

4 out of 5 stars For Sci Fi Lovers Only.......2003-11-08

Yep! It's me again. You must think all I do is sit around and watch movies. You're right. In a stressful job this is the best therapy. At work I earn every penny of my salary. At play (home) I indulge in my love for film.

So what did I think of the Science Fiction thriller "Habitat"? It's definitely for Sci Fi folks...only. It is a bizzarre tale of what happens when the ozone layer is destroyed and mankind must shield itself from the microwave effect of sunlight.

So why is it called "Habitat"? An obsessed scientist and his beautiful and sexy wife, create their own environment inside the confines of their home...a vegetation filled fantasyland of plants and flowers that literally ooze with life.

This one plays out like an expanded episode of "The Outer Limits"...but it is definitely "R" rated for the seductive passions of mom and girlfriend. Quite bizzarre. A definite 8 on my 10-scale for Sci Fi. Many people did not like this flick. I was intrigued and thoroughly entertained. A great Friday Night flick...in early November...alone in my own HABITAT. Paul

2 out of 5 stars Weird format on Plasma screen.......2007-01-10

This is great film at an IMAX theater, but for some reason, when you plug in the DVD, you have this weird smaller square in the middle of the screen showing the movie, surrounded by a still background. The movie takes up about 2/3 of the screen. I can't explain it. I have a regular 42" Plasmas TV, I don't have the same problem with other DVD's.

Land of the Falling Lakes is about the Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia. I could not believe a place like this still exists in Europe. A very beautiful and unique wilderness worth learning about.

The program is typical of the high quality production of the Nature program on PBS. Beautiful cinematography with well thought out narration and music.

5 out of 5 stars A Fantasy World On Earth.......2006-03-01

I've always loved waterfalls; and in this DVD, I couldn't get enough of the beautiful scenery and the extraordinary development of this land after the brutal war that the land endured. The animals (brown bear, wolves, beaver, etc.) live in such a peaceful setting and it's interesting to see the lives they have in all seasons. It is one of the oldest national parks in the world and I would suggest anyone, who has the ability to travel, to make it a destination and see the beauty up close.

In the summer of 2003, a group of college friends bicycled across the country to raise money and publicity for Habitat for Humanity. "Hammer and Cycle" is a first-hand account of this adventure, weaving together the stories of four riders as they endure myriad difficulties and celebrate thrilling triumphs. "Beautiful... 'Hammer' captures the spirit of the riders, from the highs of just starting out, or meeting new people in Kansas, to the lows of running out of water near a brothel in Nevada." --Patrick Ferrucci, The New Haven Register All profits from the documentary will be donated to Habitat for Humanity in an effort to end poverty housing.

    3 out of 5 stars Hmmm.......2005-07-21

Well, I didn't notice when I bought this DVD that the program is less than 1/2 hour long. I was expecting something different, something more movie-ish. But for a 1/2 hour show, and since the money goes to Habitat for humanity, then I guess it was ok. It is really more of a promotion for the ride and interviews of a few people saying, we rode bikes across the country and it was hard but we had a good time. The riders did go through some beautiful places and I liked the shots of that.

5 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC FLICK!!! .......2005-02-20

It's a tremendous documentary, reminded me a lot of "Breaking Away" in that it's about bicycling. I would really recommend checking it out. It's very worthwhile, and a really unique examination of a great nonprofit--THE HABITAT FOR HUMANITY BIKE CHALLENGE.

    Love,
    Scott
