X2 does a fine job of picking up where X-Men left off, giving fans more of what they liked the first time around. Under the serious-minded custody of returning director Bryan Singer, the second film of this Marvel comics franchise ups the ante on Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and the superhero mutants from the first film, pitting them against a mutant-hating scientist (Brian Cox) who's determined to wipe out the mutant race by tricking Xavier into abusing his telepathic powers. More a series of spectacles than a truly satisfying thriller, X2 introduces new mutant allies while giving each of the X-Men alumni--notably the temporarily helpful Magneto (Ian McKellen)--their own time in the spotlight. Well aware of the parallels between "mutantism" and virulent intolerance in the real world, Singer lends real gravity to the proceedings, injecting dramatic urgency into a continuing franchise that, in lesser hands, might've grown patently absurd. --Jeff Shannon

Great films, but do not buy this set........2007-06-12
This is far from a Complete set. Because it does not have the Two-Disc versions of the films. The first two X-Men movies have great Two-Disc sets and I was dissapointed that this set only included the Single-Disc versions. Although the third movie does not have a Two-Disc set I think there will be one in the future. Only buy this set if you don't care about the features, but if your like me buy the Two-Disc sets induvidualy or wait for and Ultimate Edition Collection.
Happy.......2007-05-30
I'm happy with the item I received and the time in which I received it.
Very Good !!!!.......2007-05-26
The X-MEN Trilogy is a must have for Sci-Fi fans. Highly Recommended!!!!
Hey everyone It's the X-men...or is it?.......2007-05-24
Alright, here it goes.
Xmen 1 was terrible. Sorry. They chose a very good wolverine but the movie could have been so much more than it was.Isn't cyclopes the leader of the Xmen? Yeah I thought so. Isn't Wolverine the mean, could care less, arrogant, 5-foot-3, massive built killing machine? Yeah, but Hugh Jackman still played him well. Storm is such a loser in this movie. Sorry Halle. Perfect Prof. X. Bad Magneto, Sorry, er whatever ur name is. Mystique...um...was weird...and naked...and ugly. All the action was saved till the end. C'mon. And it seems they took these x-men from the Ultimate Marvel Universe instead of regular Marvel which was mistake number 1. This movie gets a 2 out of 5.
X-men 2 was way better. Again Cyclops is played as the wimp in the background and Wolverine seems to be the leader of the X-men. The school being attacked was great. Storm got a little better, but still lame. Rogue is such a loser and so is Iceman. Doesnt Rogue fly? Yeah I thought so. Is Iceman really gonna do nuthing the whole movie? Yeah pretty much. They should rename this movie, Wolverine and the X-men because that's what it is. And Jean? Pheonix? For real? Was that a huge giant fire-bird image in the water? Yep. Can't wait for X-3! 4 out of 5 stars.
X-men 3 is an action-packed thriller no matter what anyone sais. The action is non-stop from beginning to end. It's straight out X-men, juggernaut, Brotherhood of Mutants, police, and everybody else BRAWWLL!!That's what I'm talking about. Too bad they killed of punk-Cyclops in the very beginning. Singer took him and went to work on Superman and it's apparent that he is not very much into action-packed thrillers. Anyway, this is a must have. Halle yelled at the producers so they gave her a bigger role. Seriously. Anyway, although a depth of story isn't explored the action makes up for it ten-fold and I forgive them. Great scenes. Only one thing. Remember Pheonix. Well...the bird isn't there. How can you have a pheonix without the bird. Obviously they got this silly idea from Ultmate X-men comic books. Pheonix is not supposed to be a level of Jeans power. Pheonix is the bird, guardian of that crystal thingy from outer-space who comes and takes over jeans body and causes major problems for the x-men. But given my take on X-1 and X-2, I forgive them because this is much better. Truthfully, I would just get the third one if youve seen the previous ones already. 4 out of 5 stars.
Boredom looking for stardom ?.......2007-05-23
Intra galactical space travel with twisted plots, too long, too boring, too sleepy. Mediocre acting, missing plot continuity and light-years away from STAR WARS quality. If wasting time is not your goal, don't waste the money !!!!!

Possibly the Greatest Comic Book Movie Ever.......2007-05-25
When taking into account all the comic book movies that have hit the theater recently this may sound like a bold statement, but really it's not. This may be a large grossing sub-genre but it isn't really that many movies we're talking about. With X2 though, I'm inclined to go even further and say it's one of the best sci-fi action films of all time...seriously. In terms of strictly comic book movies, it's simply either this or Batman Begins. I say X2 wins even in that comparison, but I'm certainly willing to accept the opposite view.
The film opens with a brilliant introduction to a crucial character, the German teleporter Nightcrawler who looks like a little blue demon but possesses an intense devotion to Catholicism, and his introduction does not serve to assist in painting him as a hero. More of an anti-hero I guess. I don't want to ruin it for those who haven't actually seen it but X2 opens with one of the more memorable action sequences of recent date and the film contains three more specific sequences that are just as good. Magneto's inevitable escape from his plastic prison is one of them.
One of the other memorable scenes sets up the real storyline for X2 quite nicely and introduces us to other mutant heroes in the process. William Stryker, an inventive military man, is motivated by his personal experience with mutant-kind to actually organize an assault on Charles Xavier's school for mutants. He wishes to gain access to the mutant tracking device called Cerebro and destroy all of them. His teams' assault is truely great action-filmmaking. The X-Men and Magneto, with his loosely forming band of mutants who agree with his politics on how to respond to humanity, find a common enemy in Stryker. The relationship established between Charles and Magneto in the first film is really important here as younger mutants develop and choose sides. I have to say, if I were in their predicament I may certainly be swayed by Magneto's extremism. The character developement here for supporting roles is important to note. Mystique and Pyro are really great villains here with massive emotion behind their actions and it's never over-stated, but it enhances the meaning and consequences to action sequences so well.
The other incredible action scene is when Bobby Drake's family calls the cops on him and his new mutant friends. There are enough under-stated layers in this scene and the characters; Wolverine, Rogue, Bobby and Pyro, are still consistent. The police show up and Pyro reveals his wrath. I always get excited for that scene even though I know he's wrong in his reaction. I mentioned four action sequences but the fun doesn't end there. Lady Deathstryke, who has been brainwashed by Stryker, and Wolverine have a great fight scene. Other scenes during the climax are just as impressive and all the while we are given enough tid-bits of so many characters that we still manage to care and even get a bit surprised near the end. It's a shame this wasn't pulled off in the third film.
X2 is unique in the sense that the plot is secondary and the film's primary operative is to develop the characters for more climactic stories. I think the screenplay succeeds in this sense but overall the screenplay (written by voice actor David Hayter) is not one of the film's strengths and can require a more robust imagination to really appreciate. Overall though, within the context of a complete trilogy, X2 is nearly perfect.

Highly recommended!
i love the x-men series.......2007-02-09
when i was younger i used to watch the x-men cartoon. when it came out in live action i was very excited...and not disappointed at all. x-men united features wolverine more than the first movie did and adds some other great characters that you know will be in future movies. the special effects are some of the best to date and will blow you away. you really want to watch this in high def on a large screen tv with surround sound. i recommend this DVD to add to your collection. don't forget to buy x-men and x-men the last stand to round off your collection
good, but the first one is better.......2007-02-01
This is supposed to deepen the concept of mutant alienation and potential war, raising the stakes with ever more spectacular special effects. I admit, from a hard sci-fi pt of view, I found this weaker than the first - it is more like magic, this "mind power" that can be bent to threaten, well, everyone. But the acting is absolutely excellent, even moving (if a comic book ever could be), and there are fabulous moments in the film, from the violent romp of Nightcrawler in the WHite House to Magneto's ingenious and frightening escape with three balls of steel. These things are a visual treat. Then there is the evolution of WOlverine, who is the most interesting character by far. Virtually all of the characters are spectacularly complete as believable types, though I have never liked Brian Cox's open-mouthed style (he never quite rings true to me). But it all seemed a bit too heavy to me, over-done as it is too ultimate and ambitious as a story extravaganza.
Overall, warmly recommended.

This movie has the best opening scene ever! It's amazing how great they made this movie considering the first one was only eh...

X-Men
It's a rare comic-book movie that doesn't fall over its cape introducing all the characters, and X-Men is the exception, dropping us into a world that is closer to our own than Batman's Gotham City, but is still home to super-powered heroes and villains. Opening in high seriousness with paranormal activity in a World War II concentration camp and a senatorial inquiry into the growing "mutant problem", Bryan Singer's film sets up a complex background with economy and establishes vivid, strange characters well before we get to the fun. There's Halle Berry flying and summoning snowstorms, James Marsden zapping people with his "optic beams," Rebecca Romijn-Stamos shape-shifting her blue naked form, and Ray Park lashing out with his Toad-tongue. The big conflict is between Patrick Stewart's Professor X and Ian McKellen's Magneto, super-powerful mutants who disagree about their relationship with ordinary humans, but the characters we're meant to identify with are Hugh Jackman's Wolverine and Anna Paquin's Rogue. There are in-jokes enough to keep comics fans engaged, but it feels more like a science-fiction movie than a superhero picture. --Kim Newman
X2: X-Men United
--Jeff Shannon

xmen collection.......2007-05-28
The xmen collection 4 disc boxed set was by far the smartest purchase I've ever made. It's absolutely fantastic. Packed with great interviews of all the actors, and behind the scene footage of the making of the movies. Seeing how the special effects were conceived was facinating. This boxed set was worth every penny and I recommend it to anyone who is an xmen fan.
Good Buy.......2006-02-01
Two well made films that stay fairly true to the comics. I actually found the 2nd movie to be better than the first. If you didn't grow up reading the comics, there may be more mutants than you can handle in these two movies. The story is pretty simple, mutants are at best mistrusted by humans. Some like Professer X want to find a way to live peacefully, while others like Magneto want to eliminate homo sapiens altogether. For 30 dollars this is a good value with tons of extras. These are fun popcorn movies.
One Really Great Movie.......2005-11-29
When I first saw the first X-Men movie I was highly impressed by the special effects, but the plot nearly bored me to tears. But I can't say that about X2: X-men United.
In this outing, there are several good plots here, all of them leading to spectacular action scenes. Chief among these is William Stryker's (an advisor to the president) is his plan to kill off all of the mutants: first by initiating an attempt on the president's life that is more than it seems at first, then using knowledge he gains from Magneto, who has been imprisoned in his all plastic cage since the end of the first movie. Once he knows all about Cerebro, Professor Xavier's special computer for locating mutants, he then captures Professor X and forces him to attempt to kill all mutants.
Another plot involves Wolverine's attempt to learn about his past from Stryker. In trying to learn his past, Wolverine encounters a vicious female version of himself equipped with his own powers of regeneration and claws to boot. His battle with her is not to be missed.
There's yet another plot where Magneto attempts to turn Stryker's plan around and to kill all the humans instead of mutants. All of these elements and more fit beautifully together in this film where we are introduced to new characters like Nightcrawler and Pyro, and we see the loss (?) of one of the core X-Men characters. This is a much better movie than it's predecessor-- and at 135 minute, nearly two and a half hours-- it's a much longer movie, too, but one that's well worth watching. It would have been nice if a few lose ends had been tied up, but I guess then there wouldn't be anything for the sequel you can just feel is coming.
DVD bos for special collection.......2005-09-15
Very good item, you can see the two movies of X men,
for comic fanatic, there are action, special effects
and good story, One of the best for movies collection

Customer Reviews:
John Q - Get your facts straight!.......2006-03-22
John Q has vomited his invective-filled, nonsensical "conservative" ramblings all over Amazon, handing out 1 star reviews the way most people hand out business cards. What's worse than his insane, grammer-challenged rants is his, shall we say "creative" command of the facts. Paramount never threatened to sue Fox over the ending fo X2, and contrary to your insane ramblings, the movie was a tremendous success for them.
As to the set being discussed, it's probably better advised for the dedicated Marvel maniac to buy X2 in the X-MEN movie pack, and pick up the Director's Edition of DAREDEVIL, which is far superior to the released version. LXG isn't worth the disc it's burned on, and is probably better left ignored. Though I can't recommend the graphic novel enough.
