The opening and closing moments of Robert (Forrest Gump) Zemeckis's Contact astonish viewers with the sort of breathtaking conceptual imagery one hardly ever sees in movies these day--each is an expression of the heroine's lifelong quest (both spiritual and scientific) to explore the meaning of human existence through contact with extraterrestrial life. The movie begins by soaring far out into space, then returns dizzyingly to earth until all the stars in the heavens condense into the sparkle in one little girl's eye. It ends with that same girl as an adult (Jodie Foster)--her search having taken her to places beyond her imagination--turning her gaze inward and seeing the universe in a handful of sand. Contact traces the journey between those two visual epiphanies. Based on Carl Sagan's novel, Contact is exceptionally thoughtful and provocative for a big-budget Hollywood science fiction picture, with elements that recall everything from 2001 to The Right Stuff. Foster's solid performance (and some really incredible alien hardware) keep viewers interested, even when the story skips and meanders, or when the halo around the golden locks of rising-star-of-a-different-kind Matthew McConaughey (as the pure-Hollywood-hokum love interest) reaches Milky Way-level wattage. Ambitious, ambiguous, pretentious, unpredictable--Contact is all of these things and more. Much of it remains open to speculation and interpretation, but whatever conclusions one eventually draws, Contact deserves recognition as a rare piece of big-budget studio filmmaking on a personal scale. --Jim Emerson

Spanning two decades and countless light years of interstellar adventure, Star Trek: The Motion Pictures Collection is a testament to the enduring goodwill of Gene Roddenberry's optimistic sci-fi concept. Long before Star Wars sparked an explosion of big-screen science fiction, Roddenberry had planned a second Star Trek TV series; the project fizzled, but its pilot script evolved into the first film in Paramount's most lucrative movie franchise. Despite its sluggish pace and bland "pajama" costuming, Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) offered a welcomed reunion of the "Classic Trek" cast, packed with Douglas Trumbull's still-dazzling special effects. Trekkers were even more ecstatic when The Wrath of Khan (1982) revived the spirit of the original series, even though director Nicholas Meyer was a Trek neophyte. With Leonard Nimoy directing, The Search for Spock (1984) began where Khan left off, with a thrilling (albeit contrived) obligation to resurrect the formerly ill-fated Mr. Spock.

A box-office smash, Nimoy's The Voyage Home (1986) is the franchise's most accessible adventure--a high point offset by William Shatner's comparatively dreadful Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989). Meyer (and his penchant for quoting Shakespeare) returned for The Undiscovered Country (1991), a conspiracy thriller that put the series back on track, inspiring fans to invoke the "even number" rule in rating their franchise favorites. Generations (1994) gracefully passed the torch to TV's The Next Generation, bidding farewell to Captain Kirk with honor and integrity intact. Highlighted by the evolving humanity of Brent Spiner's android Lt. Cmdr. Data, First Contact (1996) explored Star Trek history with a logical (hint) surprise encounter, and Insurrection (1998) provided an adequate expansion of the successful NextGen series. Taken as a whole, these ten films demonstrate the consistent vitality of Roddenberry's original vision, stoking any Trekker's appetite for "ongoing missions" in Nemesis and beyond. --Jeff Shannon Most of the feature films were released early in the DVD era, but are represented here in their vastly improved two-disc special editions, which boast widescreen anamorphic pictures, director's cuts of the first two films, numerous commentary tracks by cast and crew, humorous and informative trivia subtitle tracks by Michael and Denise Okuda, and a wide variety of new and vintage documentaries and galleries.

5 out of 5 stars Right Down My Alley!.......2007-06-21

The type of movie I love. It is scifi, rich in mystery! The beginning is very slow. When I watch it now I skip right to the beginning of the action. From there the movie flys. You are truly kept looking for the next clue, the next answer. You want to find out what this is all about. They could have done something different with the conclusion, but I liked the change in the main characters outlook.

5 out of 5 stars This movie is assigned watching for college Ethics class........2007-06-04

This movie is rich in ethical points of view. It ranges from the insane who believe their harmful actions are saving humanity, to non-ethical behaviour by saying what ever it takes to succeed. the moral of the movie is amazingly simple yet illusive to even the wisest of Philosophers.
The special effects are fantastic, the casting is brilliant and the writing is incredibly profound. A definite 5 star movie.

1 out of 5 stars terrible.......2007-05-15

it was long, unengaging and frankly, the end was not creative in the slightest. Don't know what else to tell you.

5 out of 5 stars Great "What could be" Movie.......2007-05-12

Somewhat believable tale about potential life in the universe. Inspiring and fun to watch.

5 out of 5 stars Contact.......2007-05-12

Contact is a movie about Astronomy and the search for signals in space from remote, intelligent life. Jodie Foster plays a gifted astronomer who struggles to keep her work and reputation alive in a very controversial field that very few people--including most other scientists--do not take seriously. Even a non-scientific audience cannot help becoming totally engulged in this story. The acting and direction are outstanding, and the special effects are stunning. The viewer is swept into a whirlwind of excitement and suspense as a world that does not yet exist for us becomes not only alive, but compellingly believable.

Even-numbered Star Trek movies tend to be better, and First Contact (#8 in the popular movie series) is no exception--an intelligently handled plot involving the galaxy-conquering Borg and their attempt to invade Earth's past, alter history, and "assimilate" the entire human race. Time travel, a dazzling new Enterprise, and capable direction by Next Generation alumnus Jonathan Frakes makes this one rank with the best of the bunch. Capt. Picard (Patrick Stewart) and his able crew travel back in time to Earth in the year 2063, where they hope to ensure that the inventor of warp drive (played by James Cromwell) will successfully carry out his pioneering warp-drive flight and precipitate Earth's "first contact" with an alien race. A seductive Borg queen (Alice Krige) holds Lt. Data (Brent Spiner) hostage in an effort to sabotage the Federation's preservation of history, and the captive android finds himself tempted by the queen's tantalizing sins of the flesh! Sharply conceived to fit snugly into the burgeoning Star Trek chronology, First Contact leads to a surprise revelation that marks an important historical chapter in the ongoing mission "to boldly go where no one has gone before." --Jeff Shannon

Description

In their second big screen adventure, the year is 2373 and the crew of the Enterprise-E has learned the Borg has returned. Because of Captain Picard's past experiences with the Borg, Starfleet has ordered the Enterprise to stay out of the fight. Realizing too much is at stake, Picard disobeys orders and takes the Enterprise to Earth. His knowledge of Borg technology leads the Federation fleet to victory, but a Borg sphere escapes and opens a temporal vortex. The Enterprise pursues and travels back to April 4, 2063; the day before the first warp flight.

Good epilogue for the BORG neverending threat to humanity!!! Great Jean-Luc PICARD in the end against the BORG QUEEN!!!!! Not so bad the Klingon WORF!! Nice and offhands rendering of the human race left (especially the creator of the warp dirve engine, COCHRANE, played amazingly well by James CROMWELL!) after the nuclear world war!!!

5 out of 5 stars Great Movie!!!!.......2007-04-05

I really love this movie but beware, I don't know what I was thinking I thought this was the directors cut which usually puts back all the deleted seens in a movie. Well this one isn't it. It will show you the seens deleted as extras but not intergrated back into the movie. Thats my only complaint but that is a minor complaint and totally my fault. The movie itself is a great, try watching it on a big sreen TV you will love it esp. the opening fight seen in the movie when the Borg attack the fleet. This is a great buy so don't hesitate if you haven't seen the movie or just want it for you collection.

3 out of 5 stars Loved the movie, but unimpressed with the extras.......2007-04-03

I love the movie. I'd be hard pressed to say it's my favorite Star Trek movie since it's so hard to beat Wrath of Khan, but it's definitely my favorite Next Gen movie.

The bonuses however, are hardly worth purchasing the two disc collector's edition. I understand that the movie was filmed before the days of DVD and the producers didn't go into the project expecting to hand over hours worth of bonus material. It shows. All of the extras felt like they scrounged together whatever behind the scenes footage they could find and tried to build little documentary segments out of it. In my opinion, it failed spectacularly.

I, personally, was hoping for extras about the Borg Queen. Her makeup, her art direction. There is some of that, but not a lot. The only mention of her makeup is in passing and there are no behind the scenes footage of the makeup process at all.

All in all, I found the extras to be seriously lacking and not worth the additional price.

5 out of 5 stars The Line Must Be Drawn Here!.......2007-04-03

I'm not sure if I'd have ever started watching Star Trek TNG if it wasn't for Patrick Stewart and his amazing performance in this movie. How they ever got such an amazing actor to jump on board is beyond me but I'm very happy that he did.

When I watch or read a favorite movie or book, I tend to always skip sections to get to the part that was constantly replaying itself in my head over and over again all day. In First Contact, I repeatedly jump to Patrick Stewart's "Moby Dick" scene where he passionately expresses his obsession with destroying the Borg. It doesn't happen too often when an actor performs exactly how you'd like to express yourself in a way that you never realized might be in you. I first saw this movie when I was young so it made a distinct impression on me when I saw it. Been a Trekkie ever since.

I also thought James Cromwell played Zefram Cochran incredibly. When he comments on the disparity between him and his future self to Commander Riker, it's just funny how life can turn out and that there is still hope for us all. Without those two actors, the movie still would have been awesome but it would have just been another good movie but nothing you really had to watch over again.

So in my opinion, rent it if you must but it's definitely worth the $10.99. By far the best movie from the TNG series and although I more often than not skip most of the movie to get to my favorite parts, I enjoy them enough to watch the movie in it's entirety once in a while.

5 out of 5 stars Possibly The Best Star Trek Movie?.......2007-03-28

One editorial review is right: the even numbers are better.

There is a Next Generation episode which shares the name "First Contact", but the only common thread is the contact with a planet and those outside. Actually, the emphasis is not as much on the first contact but the battle to allow it to be so.

SKIP THIS PARAGRAPH IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE, BECAUSE IT CONTAINS SPOILERS! I found elements of different movies in this story, especially hints to Star Treks III (destroying the Enterprise) and IV (going back in time and telling select earth people something about the future). Sometimes, it takes away from the originality of the story, but this is an exception.

Unlike Generations, this movie developed the teamwork that made this series and all other Star Treks. However, the movie gets right into the action.

I find the Borg the most disturbing of the Star Trek villains, and this fit the bill. Alice Krige was excellent in her role.

There are themes that were great in this movie. For example, the friendship between Captain Picard and Data and sacrifice. The issue of revenge and obsession. The issue of submission to authority and the boldness to take risks when necessary. The fact that people we look up to as heroes are just ordinary people like you and I who are motivated by the same things we are (or maybe not as high a motivation). As a Christian, I can see spiritual warfare implications in the movie, as well as illustrations of pitfalls we believers can fall into.

No director could ever have hoped to repeat the artistic achievement of Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, and nobody knew that better than Peter Hyams, who made this much more conventional film from the first of three sequel novels by Arthur C. Clarke. Whereas Kubrick made a poetic film of mind-expanding ideas and metaphysical mysteries, Hyams shouldn't be blamed for taking a more practical, crowd-pleasing approach. In revealing much of what Kubrick deliberately left unexplained, 2010 lacks the enigmatic awe of its predecessor, but it's still a riveting tale of space exploration and extraterrestrial contact, beginning when a joint American-Soviet mission embarks to determine the cause of failure of the derelict spaceship Discovery. Having arrived at Discovery near the planet Jupiter, the American mission leader (Roy Scheider) and his Russian counterpart (Helen Mirren) must investigate the apparent failure of the ship's infamous onboard computer, HAL 9000, as well as the meaning of countless mysterious black monoliths amassing on Jupiter's surface (an interpretation Kubrick originally left up to his viewers). Meanwhile, Earth is on the brink of nuclear war, and an apparition of astronaut David Bowman (Keir Dullea) appears to repeatedly promise that "something wonderful" is about to happen. --Jeff Shannon

3 out of 5 stars Decent but Clunky Move with No Sense of Wonder.......2007-06-18

First off, the original movie 2001 is in a league of it's own, and few movies can or will ever acheive it's lofty heights.

Having said that, 2010 is a decent movie in the vein of "Alien" or a standard Star Trek movie, but it comes off as very 'clunky' and does nothing to stir our imagination. One reviewer said it plays like a TV-movie, and they're absolutely right. Something about it just seems "off", with abrupt scene cuts, scenes that go nowhere and just end, and absolutely no sense of wonderment or excitement.

The editing is infuriating too. We're jarringly thrown from one scene to another with absolutely no attempt at a smooth transition. One example that dove me nuts - they'll show the monolith floating by Jupiter with the great music playing, then cut to inside the ship with no music, then back outside with music, then inside with no music, etc. Talk about clunky - it gets pretty damn annoying after a while.

The narration by Roy Schieder makes you think you're watching "SeaQuest" and is a bit of overkill as this movie just has to explain EVERYTHING. This movie tells you exactly what's happening before, during and after it has happened, which dilutes any or all excitement. You can definitely check your brain at the door for this one, because it doesn't require you to think about anything - it's all table-spoon fed to you constantly during the film, and that becomes annoying as well.

And there is absolutely no sense of awe or wonder in this film. I do think it's a good Arthur Clarke story, and his stories usually end with Man or another race ascending to a higher plane of existence, and the ending here is similarly along that vein.

It was nice, however, to see Keir Dullea and hear Hal again and to re-visit some of those sets.

Another nitpick - they got the read-out screens wrong in the Discovery. In the scene in the pilot's chair of the Discovery, when they show Hal's eye flanked by the screens, you can see that they used simple CRT screens instead of the flat screens used in 2001. Because there is so much glare on the CRTs, the read-outs don't pop out brightly like they did in the first film. Again, everything just seeme a little 'off' in this film. And the awesome Centrifuge set is nowhere to be seen.

All in all, it's a decent, clunky, un-exciting journey, worth a look or two but destined to collect dust in your DVD collection. By contrast, how many times have you seen 2001?

4 out of 5 stars A Sci-Fi Classic That Deserves More Respect Than It's Gotten.......2007-06-03

True, this movie could never compare to Kubrick's "2001," but I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing. Perhaps it's because I was in high school when "2010" came out, but I relate a lot more to the sequel than the original, which I think could have shed the beginning and final acts and still been a coherent movie.

As a stand-alone movie, it's one of the more thoughtful sci-fi films I've ever seen, and the performances are quite good, especially Dame Helen Mirren and John Lithgow. And the vidual effects...Richard Edlund does a sublime job of following in Douglas Trumbull's footsteps.

The only fault I found with the film, and this is mainly in retrospect, is Peter Hyams' choice to have the US and Russia at loggerheads, considering that no such conflict existed in either the books of "2001" and "2010," nor in the film version of "2001." It dates the film somewhat, but it's still a good movie.

Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the transfer. "2010" has never had a decent transfer to video, and the DVD version is about as bad as it gets. Surely a better print exists of this film, and while the sound doesn't have the same "shuddering" quality the earliest VHS release had, it's still sub-par.

Hopefully either Warner or MGM will remaster this film for HD-DVD and/or Blu-Ray.

4 out of 5 stars Good sequel Hal.......2007-03-19

2010 is a good sequel to 2001. 2001 is better but the way the Russians Americans and Hal work together makes a good point. Visually 2010 is close at times but not breathtaking. 2010 has elements 2001 didnt have that make it an interesting watchable sequel.

1 out of 5 stars I think 1 star is to much........2007-03-06

If you a going to buy this movie because you saw 2001(best movie ever) and want to find out about the story more. Or just want somthing that will give you the same feeling when you watched 2001. Dont buy this please dont its not good at all. And if you love 2001 like I do then just skip this it wont help out on understanding anything.

5 out of 5 stars Great follow up.......2007-02-14

Faster paced, more thrilling, great acting, yes it is not Kubrick, but it was and is a great movie as sequels go!

Jodie Foster and Matthew McConaughey star in and Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump) directs an exhilarating adaptation of Carl Sagan's Contact (Side A), the dazzling tale of humanity's greatest voyage of discovery. The excitement runs deep in Sphere (Side B) as officials find a huge spacecraft that plunged into the Pacific - 300 years earlier. Dustin Hoffman, Sharon Stone and Samuel L. Jackson lead an underwater expedition into the mysterious craft in this adventure directed by Barry Levinson (Rain Man) and based on Michael Crichton's novel. Step aboard for a new dimension in thrills!

5 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT INFO.......2006-12-28

This DVD was informative and enjoyable to watch. I have watched a lot of alien documentaries and this is by far one of the best.

4 out of 5 stars Compelling.......2006-03-08

The footage in this film is exceptional ... you'll find yourself rewinding to review it time after time. The film shifts from expert interviewee to expert interviewee, with some a bit more credible than the others. I certainly recommend a viewing.

5 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING presentation! A cut above the norm!.......2006-01-20

Don't listen to those noisy negativists! This is a great dvd, one of the best I've found! Terrific footage, over 250 clips! Interviews with Bob Lazaar, Roger Leir, Gordon Cooper, Linda Howe and more! See saucers, probes, and the surgical removal of an alien implant from an abductee - simply a must-have!

3 out of 5 stars The Truth is Out There.....but this ain't it!.......2005-05-26

I bought this DVD based on the two previous reviews, but it unfortunately, didn't live up to the high marks given it. I am not a skeptic when it comes to the subject matter. I have seen an unexplainable "phenonenom" in the sky with my own eyes and I am looking for more information out there. What I saw in the sky, was very similar to what is on the DVD "Crop Circles" in the special features section. I think that is a much better DVD than this. The best part of this DVD is the interview with the former astronaut Cooper. The operation to remove the implant seemed fake to me. It was hardly definitive. Most of the films of the "Probes" also seemed more like hot air ballons than spacecraft. Hot air ballons can be shaped like cylinders or even animals. It was hard for me to believe that those "spacecraft" would have just stayed there for DAYS, as they said, and no one does anything! Or the film said, " the spacecraft returned night after night for hours at a time"! "On the third night the Sheriffs' Dept finally came and then all the paperwork disappeared". That's just not very believeable to me, I'm sorry! The UFO that sat over Las Vegas for THREE DAYS also seems a bit suspect. Nobody from CNN, the Pentagon, the BBC or even the National Enquier so much as even noticed it?????? IT's a city of a MILLION PEOPLE!!!!! No one looked up in the sky that week???
I think there is definitely something going on with UFO's, Crop Circles, etc and I think the American Government is as trustworthy as Al Capone on LSD, but poor evidence doesn't shed light on the Truth. We need good science and good evidence.

4 out of 5 stars Great footage - no cheese.......2004-12-02

This DVD and "Out of The Blue" are certainly the most satisfying documentaries on the UFO subject. Don't let the silly cover design fool you, this is quality content. The video footage alone is worth the price.

Once you see these UFOs captured on tape, you don't need a narrator or eye-witness accounts to convince you something extraordinary is in the skies. I'm not convinced by the surgery portion of this doc. because the findings of that doctor were effectively challeged on a Sci-Fi network show, but as a skeptic, the videos will certainly open your eyes.

4 out of 5 stars Fun and tough workout.......2006-04-26

I tried this out for the first time today. The workout is based from a punching bag which looks like a sock'n bop for adults. I don't have the bag but I was able to get a solid workout without it. You could get imaginative if you have the Billy Bands or other tension bands.
I enjoyed it.

5 out of 5 stars Tae Bo Fan.......2006-03-10

I've always been a Tae Bo Fan from the very first video. And now I'm a fan of this DVD and it has definitely been working. Everyone has been telling me that I'm losing weight and looking so much better and it's all because of Tae Bo. It's changelling but worth it. I even ordered the punching bag and that's so much fun. I would definitely recommend this product to many people.

4 out of 5 stars When the instuctor is sweating..........2005-06-13

You are going to feel it too.
Nothing is worse than working out to a tape where the host hasn't even lost their breath to catch it, and you're scraping yourself off of the floor.
THIS IS NOT THE CASE. By the end, everyone is pouring sweat and grunting, and you will be too.
This was my first Tae Bo DVD. While I do have the advantage of limited martial arts experience and years of yoga, this was still a carido challenge. It's simple and FUN! This workout accomodates limited space, it's easy to understand, he's fun and not cheezy.

5 out of 5 stars Queen of Outer Space.......2006-08-07

Emmanuelle gets elected to become the captain of a group of strange, space men and women from a distant galazy, led by Haffron, a cute guy who knows next to nothing about sex. Haffron has a sort of Patrick Swayze looks and must come from some kingdom too poor to buy any underwear. Emmanuelle, ever playful, has had a showdown with her earth boyfriend, Philip, not a bad sort but a jealous fellow who won't let her explore her sense of adventure. With this in mind, she has sex with Haffron as they perform monitored with a hundred wires which allow the rest of the crew to monitor their bodily sensations.

What can Emmanuelle, a lovely girl played by the incomparable Kirsta Allen, teach a bunch of overeducated, brainiac space creatures? Well, first off, none of them have ever had sex since in their nation, to procreate one must simply slough oneself in two, and that's how children are made, therefore there has n ever ben a need for sex. Bowever, Haffron so enjoys the earthly delights of Emmanuelle that he becomes a sex addict sort of, and poses as Emmanuelle's brother as she returns to earth to confront jealous Philip, who, as it happens, is giving his missing fiancee a taste of her own medicine by throwing a wild orgiastic party. She twitches her nose and changes out of Krista Allen's body into another (so that Phil won't recognize her) and attempts to seduce him to test her theory that he's a cheater, while Haffron tries to pick up different [...] at the party. They succeed and the two couples have sex in adjoining rooms. Dumb old Haffron picks up a "professional" who asks him for $200. "What's 'money'?" he asks in his inane royal hiccup. When he drops his pants her eyes widen and she rushes right over. "Never mind, this is a freeby!" she announces.

In space, Emmanuelle accepts the thanks of the space people for treating Haffron so well, but says that even becoming their queen won't satisfy her need for travelling to Egypt so they better let her abdicate. Instead, they accept all her conditions, and allow her to go on her planned barge down the Nile on a swinging singles cruise. Haffron accompanies her, telling her he loves her and to prove it, he says, that even if she changes her body for another female passenger, he will still know it's her, instantly. Farcically he fails to identify her and beds four other women, all of them charming and witty and nubile, but none of them really up to Krista Allen's gold standards.

Badly shot on cheap video stock, but highly recommended nevertheless. FIRST CONTACT's a winner all the way through.

3 out of 5 stars Another Spacey Softcore Flick.......2006-01-19

I'm not sure what everybody is up in arms about. I watched the movie a few hours ago and saw plenty of Kirsta Allen, though, except in the beginning, she was mostly dressed. I think the reason, is the version I watched, which I rented from Café DVD, was unrated. Anyway the other girls were nothing sneeze at and though the sex scenes could have been more sensual there were plenty of them. Overall I thought Emmanuelle in Space - First Contact was an average soft porn flick. Hence the three star rating but only the unrated version.

5 out of 5 stars What are we talking about here people.......2002-12-18

Now if any of you have ever read one of my reviews you know that I take movies at face value. I don't read into them... I don't look to them for hidden meaning or anything like that. That being said why are we trying to find quality in porn. I know this might come as a shock to you all but this is porn... soft-core safe for the teenager in you porn. Nothing more. Saying that I'm disappointed in this movie is like saying that the production value of the hardcore movies is terrible. Why... Why waste your time reviewing this...get what you need out of it (and you all know what I mean) and move on

2 out of 5 stars not so great :(.......2001-05-13

i wasn't happy with this movie...i should have listened to the reviews. there was hardly any krista allen at all. i was expecting something along the lines of the uncut emmanuelle movies ms. allen had done back in 95 and 96. i have all 7 of these unedited movies. each movie is 90 minutes in length and there's a total is 7 movies for a grand total of 10 and a half hours of krista!...

3 out of 5 stars Dissapointing.......2000-10-14

I have waited so long to see this movie and i was very disapointed with it. The only thing good about it was Krista Allen and she was hardly in the movie. The sex sceens werent even that great. There were very dull and boring. Very bad r rated version and im not sure if the unrated is much more. Im glad i didnt spend movie to buy this. If you want to see a good Emmanuelle movie see Emmanuelle 5 the best of all.

4 out of 5 stars Perfect for beginners..........2007-01-04

Even as an intuitive, I found this to be a useful DVD. I am a visual learner so seeing someone lay out the steps in a video lesson is priceless, even though I have read instructions by authors of other books on mediumship.

If you are an intermediate level medium that is already contacting friends and family who have passed away, then this DVD might not be for you. The video is nicely done, nice soft language, good directions and explanations, and it also is easy to navigate with the menu so that you can stop and start it to take notes if needed. I did not but some people need to write things down!

Would I buy another video by Steve Murray? Yes, depending on the topic.

5 out of 5 stars State of the Art DVD.......2006-12-01

This is different then Steve Murray's other Reiki DVD's on becoming a Reiki 1, 2 or Master - or his books that really are the best Reiki Guides out there. This is different and I feel it helps set the stage for Reiki work, helping you learn to open up to Spirit and Guidance for your healing sessions. But, even if your not interested in Reiki, this DVD shows you step by step how to contact the other side, it's beautifully put together and he doesn't hold anything back. It's a must for any one who wishes to reach the other side and needs information on how to do it in a safe way.

I've enjoyed these programs and I truly believe I was brought to them via
"Divine intervention" which paved the way for me to find what I was searching for... Whatever you decide in your search for Reiki or Spirit Connact may the Universal Life Force energy grace your path...

4 out of 5 stars Basic Intro to not be afraid to be a part of the universe .......2006-05-29

This video was 30 min & drawn out as much as possible by Steve Murray, for that I take off 1 star. With being so brief, he also doesn't get bogged down in religions & tries to not go to any one denomination.
You have to find your own ways to relax to that state between asleep & awake to feel the other planes of reality as strongly as you do this one. I use strong music while others may need silence.
He does make sure you do say a "prayer" of words stating you only wish to get info for your highest good. There is debate whether there are spirits who can hurt you.
No one needs really any items or talismens or anything unless you need something to concerate on so you don't get distracted. That's why Ouiji boards work, it's not the wood or plastic, it's you opening yourself up to anything on another plane.
I have had many visions myself during massage & Reiki sessions of patients former friends & relatives from the other side, as it's also true for me that yes, they do retain their sense of humor & quirks or at least as to help to be identified if they so wish to.
If you liked DVDs best, this is a good starting point, but the info can be summed up in about 30 pages of a book probably.
No, there is no info about the other side & yes, everyone has been born with the ability to tap into the universe for help & answers to their lives & those that are no longer living.

Take off 2 stars if you were really expecting in depth info.

5 out of 5 stars Finally!!!!.......2006-03-18

Finally there is a DVD that illustrates within 30 mins, the simple process of contacting our loved ones who have crossed over and angels who protect us from harm. Steve Murray carefully illustrates for us how to go through each step of preparedness for communication with entities beyond our dimension. In this age of spiritual awakeness and renaissance, it is an instructional DVD like this that gives us tools needed to uncover the God given ability to communicate with our loved ones. Death will no longer be the end but only the prolonging or continuation of our relationships with them. Thanks, Steve!!!

4 out of 5 stars How to Contact Angels and Departed Love Ones.......2005-09-05

This is one of Steve Murray's many DVD's I ordered (including Reiki) His DVD's are good and I find them interesting. My dissapointment comes with them being very short time wise approx, each dvd I have not found to be more than 1/2 hour. I guess I was expecting him to go more into detail. On the other hand he does with his Reiki book and I would give that 5 stars and say bravo for easy reading and understanding. I wish I could say the same for the DVD's I just find them not as informative or just too short in length where you are waiting for more info and the dvd ends.
His DVD on Contact Angels and Departed love ones I thought would explain more on the spiritual world ( or the other side).

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars I thought that this movie was better than average.......2007-07-05

It is true that it showed almost like a documentary; and I liked that about this movie. Many disaster movies focus on several troubled relationship and the main theme of the disaster is only a back drop; not so with this film. After watching this movie, I actually felt that I knew more about avion flu and how various government agencies MIGHT deal with the problems that develop.

2 out of 5 stars DOESN'T QUITE FLY.......2006-11-12

This made for TV flick certainly makes an impact on just how devastating a pandemic of the dreaded bird flu could impact the world. That's the film's main problem--it is so heavy handed and somber that it doesn't really flesh out the storylines to make us care for the people. It's almost like a documentary; nothing really "happens."
Joely Richardson is lovely but her performance is lifeless; Scott Cohen fares a little better as the obsessed governor of Virginia; and Stacy Keach is appropriately bureaucratic. Ann Cusack takes acting honors, however, as the widow of the businessman responsible for bringing the virus into America. She evokes a lot of sympathy as a wife and mother who takes charge when things get really bad.
A dark, disturbing if ultimately uneventful movie, though.

3 out of 5 stars AN OKAY TV MOVIE, BUT MUCH TOO SHORT.......2006-11-10

it wasn't much more than that. i saw this in my high school health class and liked it. it is a movie about what would happen if the bird flue disease spread to America. it is basically what you would think, mass histaria. it almost plays out like a vombie, but no running or chasing scenes. it's okay, it has a lot of subplots, but by far the best one is the one with the nurse working at the hospital. it cuts off at 90 minets though, i felt it could have been a lot longer. it ends basically ends at the first night of a two part mini-series. it could go into a lot more detail and got into the characters a bit more. it seems like they were tring to fit it into a 2 hour time slot and cut a lot out at the last minute. but ll in all it's pretty good. the dvd dosen't seem to have any extras or deleated senes which have been nice. but you take what you get, i'll ask for it for my birthday. can't wait to see it again.
