Who would have guessed that this clever, fast-paced creature feature from 1990 would become a beloved miniclassic worthy of its own Collector's Edition DVD? Tremors didn't actually break any new ground (even though its tunneling worm monsters certainly did), but it revved up the classic monster-movie formulas of the 1950s with such energetic enthusiasm and humor that it made everything old seem new again. It's also got a cast full of enjoyable actors who clearly had a lot of fun making the film, and director Ron Underwood strikes just the right balance of comedy and terror as a band of small-town rednecks battles a lot of really nasty-looking giant worms. The special effects are great, the one-liners fly fast and furious between heroes Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward (and yes, that's country star Reba McEntire packin' awesome firepower), and it's all done with the kind of flair one rarely associates with goofy monster flicks like this. Followed by a direct-to-video sequel (Tremors: Aftershocks), this horror thriller was given the deluxe treatment for its DVD release. Bonus features include an original "making-of" documentary, previously unseen video showing the creation of the worm-creatures, outtakes from the film, the original ending not shown in theaters, theatrical trailers, and a gallery of production photographs. If you're a fan, consider this a must-have disc! --Jeff Shannon

Description

Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward star as two country handymen who lead a cast of zany characters to safety in this exciting sci-fi creature comedy. Just as Val McKee (Bacon) and Earl Basset (Ward) decide to leave Perfection, Nevada, strange rumblings prevent their departure. With the help of a shapely seismology student (Finn Carter), they discover their desolate town is infested with gigantic man-eating creatures that live below the ground. The race is on to overcome these slimy subterraneans and find a way to higher ground, in this enjoyable thriller co-starring Michael Gross and Reba McEntire.

They're back! The giant underground creatures that terrorized a desert town in Tremors are now plowing their way through Mexican oil fields, gobbling up everything and everyone around-and only one man can stop them! In the style of its predecessor, this comedy sci-fi creature feature reunites Fred Ward as down-on-his-luck Earl Basset and Michael Gross as gung-ho survivalist Burt Gummer, two desert desperados who take on the task of destroying the monsters. Partnered with them is Christopher Gartin, a young guy in need of kicks, cash, and a career change, and Helen Shaver, a sexy and intrepid scientist who's seen it all…until now. Together they devise an ingenious plan for tracking and killing the creatures. Tremors 2 is filled with high-speed action and plenty of laughs-until the predators wise up.

Those morphing, man-eating monsters are shaking things up again in the dusty little town of Perfection, Nevada - and survivalist Burt Gummer (Michael Gross) is the only solution to the latest in evolution! Aided by a couple of young local entrepreneurs (Shawn Christian and Susan Chuang), Burt pits his impressive knowledge of weaponry against the newest and deadliest generation of Graboids. If Burt and his new partners can't find a way to stop them, then the creatures that put Perfection on the map will wipe it right off the face of the earth. Tremors 3 promises earth-shaking, explosive, edge-of-your-seat entertainment.

Get ready to be shaken to your core by the all-new prequel to the original Tremors! When workers in a remote mining town of Rejection, Nevada, fall prey to an unseen creature, the mine's owner, Hiram Gummer (Michael Gross), great-grandfather to Tremors' Burt Gummer, hires a mercenary to destroy the carnivorous creatures before they swallow up his profits. What follows is an all-out assault that takes the battleground from deep in the earth to a suspense-filled showdown on the streets of Rejection! Tremors 4:The Legend Begins will thrill you with incredible action sequences, awesome bonus features and earth-shaking special effects created by the award-winning team behind the original box-office hit, Tremors.

5 out of 5 stars Great value!.......2007-05-07

I've always been a fan of the Tremors series, and I had all the movies on VHS (well, except for #4). The VHS tapes are getting old, so I thought I would upgrade to DVD. This "Attack Pack" was a great value, and I recommend it to any Tremors fans.

3 out of 5 stars Just Remember It's Only a Movie!.......2007-03-15

My nine year old grandson wanted "Tremors". We purchased the set for his 10th birthday coming up in April. I have seen two of the set on cable. I think he has seen them all. The one with Kevin Bacon was the best in my opinion. As I stated in the title just remember it's only a movie.

4 out of 5 stars Great for sci-fi fans.......2007-02-13

This is a really good product, especially for the price. It's a good idea for sci-fi fans. When I got mine, one of the discs was defective, but returning it was no big deal. The second movie is definetly the best, then the first, then the third. The fourth one isn't something I'd pay money for, but it's okay in a box set.

5 out of 5 stars Silly, exciting fun.......2007-01-28

Part One, classic Bacon at his finest! Michael Gross and Reba McEntire join Bacon in turning a potentially stale monster flick into a roller coaster fun classic. Michael Gross, the constant in the series, throws his Keaton image to the wind to create a hilarious character in an ever-evolving arc of a fine mix of thrills, chills, drama, comedy, and wickedly good effects. The series perhaps would have been best left a trilogy, but the fourth installment, and following short-lived television show, proved a relatively simple idea, man against "nature," can take on a life of its own and never disappoint. Perhaps the most impressive? These are ridiculously 50's horror in nature, but timeless in entertainment.

5 out of 5 stars For My Son.......2007-01-12

My son wanted the Tremor movies and I was thrilled to find them all in one package.

5 out of 5 stars What a hoot!.......2007-04-12

What a hoot! A great cast that plays this crazy story perfectly straight. They get us to buy into every bit of the story no matter how wrong every "scientific" premise of the story is. Each of the characters is colorful and we root for them in the way they individually deal with the crisis of these "new" creatures attacking their valley home.

Valentine McKee (Kevin Bacon) and Earl Bassett (Fred Ward) are the closest thing to heroes and normal among the males in the movie. They become the leaders and the ones the plot leans on. The most colorful characters are Burt and Heather Gummer (Michael Gross and Reba McEntire) as the survivalist couple with enough food storage and weaponry to stand for five years against an invading army. The Michael Gross character is the one who is in all four movies and a few episodes of the TV series based on the movies. Although, a few others lasted through one or more of the sequels (think of Tony Genaro's Miguel). However, this is the best of the series.

Victor Wong, whom we greatly miss, is terrific as the local shop owner, Walter Chang. In every role I have seen him play, I enjoy his presence and think he makes the movie better.

I guess the whole "Dune" series made the idea of large worms that could move through dirt as easily as a fish through water more believable. And the monsters in this movie are quite good. Because they are underground we believe that all the moving dirt, floors, walls, and machines to be the results of those things being down there and threatening not only the characters, but us! We don't want to get eaten by them any more than they people inhabiting the movie.

And while things get worse and worse for the cast, we still enjoy their inventiveness in trying to get out. That worms are as intelligent as these seem to be does require another leap of faith. But we are willing to make it for this story.

Lots of fun!

5 out of 5 stars One ultra cool monster flick.......2007-03-28

Tremors is a monster movie reminiscent of those old 1950s creature features. The small town of Perfection, Nevada finds its population dwindling due to the menace of underground creatures. The few remaining residents fight for their lives as they're cut off from the rest of civilization.

Tremors has become a cult classic over the years and deservedly so. It's a great blend of comedy and horror, and has enough action and one-liners to keep everyone entertained. Kevin Bacon (in his most memorable role) and Fred Ward lead the pack of unlikely heroes including a seismologist (Finn Carter), a gun-loving couple (Michael Gross and Reba McEntire) and a few other helpless souls. The witty script gave the worms a run for their money; the tactics the characters come up with to outrun them are both ingenious and hilarious. Although this movie is a lighthearted one, there are still plenty of suspenseful moments. Ron Underwood brilliantly helms this little film with the hand of a pro; let's face it, in the wrong hands, Tremors might have been a disastrous and forgettable film.

If you like left-field comedies, monster movies, horror films or are simply in the mood for a fun flick, Tremors is the way to go. The DVD has a lot of extra features including a making-of, an alternate opening and original ending, and movie trailers. Skip the sequels; they don't have the heart and freshness of the original.

5 out of 5 stars Hilarious.......2007-03-24

The first time I saw this movie was with my dad. He rented it and I thought oh man, another cheesy sci-fi movie. But after watching it, it's hilarious. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for some dry humor and crude jokes. I liked this movie so much I bought the first and second one a few weeks ago.

:)

5 out of 5 stars CLASSIC "50'S SCI - FI" FEEL WITH MODERN DAY FX = EXCELLENT MOVIE.......2007-03-16

I don't know how they did it?! They managed to capture that fun classic sci - fi feeling of the 50's. This is a modern day classic giant bug movie that really pays homage to the good lo' days! It will keep your pulse racing as much as make you laugh. This is the best of the series, but I must admit I like the 3 sequels too! The DVD is a good transfer.

2 out of 5 stars Far from perfection.......2007-05-26

Well, nobody could have expected the first movie with its giant, burrowing worms to be as good as it was. And we certainly didn't have any right to expect that the sequel to that film would be nearly as clever and entertaining. With this third installment, the "Tremors" series finally ran out of gas. Burt Gummer (Michael Gross) was excellent comic relief, but he's too much of a characature to command leading man status. The tired script doesn't require the characters to think their way out of their dilemma the way the previous two movies did. A scene in which Burt survives being swallowed is particularly ridiculous, as is the latest matamorphosis of the graboids.

4 out of 5 stars FANS OF THE SERIES SHOULD ENJOY THIS ONE I SURE DID!.......2007-03-16

Ok..Ok.. I have to admit I didn't think they could really pull off anything with a third entry......I was wrong! This is not as good as the original, but what movie sequels are?? This is a very funny addition to the franchise and well worth viewing for the fan of the series. The DVD is a very good transfer too!

3 out of 5 stars Just for Fun.......2007-03-08

If you are looking for a complicated, deeply moving movie, this is not what you want. This is strictly a film for light entertainment purposes only. I personally love the entire Tremors series. Tremors 3 takes you back to Perfection to find yet another form of Graboids causing problems for the residence of this tiny town. There is a new store owner,
a guide service and what would Perfection be without Burt Gummer?

It's fun, it's light and it's entertaining. It's a nice break from some of the other "heavier" films.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant Franchise Extension.......2006-07-06

While the first in the series offered a dry satire on B-Movies, the third in Stampede's franchise continues the preposterious comedy of the second. Survivalist Burt Gummer is back in Perfection Valley, where a host of new Graboids have shown up ready to eat its way through the town inhabitants.
Joined by newcomer Graboid enthusiast Desert Jack and entrepeneur Jodi Chang, it's up to Burt to put the Graboids back in place. It wouldn't be Tremors, however, if there wasn't a suprise or two, and without giving too much away: there's a third evolution which has to be seen to be believed!!

It funny, well-paced and fans of the series will relish in the chance to rejoin some old characters and smirk with knowning glee as Burt whittles off his infamous quips!

Look out for the fourth film soon, and a Sci-Fi channel TV series from January 2003. I for one can't wait!

2 out of 5 stars Below average Sequel.......2006-03-08

Tremors was a homage to the 1950's horror classics. Tremors 2 was a decent enough sequel that it had enough comedy to keep you entertained, high tech weapons to show, and gave you enough Burt Gummer that you enjoyed the movie. So the producers thought that even more Burt would be a better movie.

It could have been. But going back to tired old cliches of running out of ammo, and blowing up his place - sorry, been there done that. Not funny anymore. Bad script writing destroys what could have been a good movie.

When a remote Mexican oilfield comes down with a nasty case of Graboids (for the uninitiated: giant carnivorous worms with tunneling abilities that put Bugs Bunny to shame), it's up to those veteran monster exterminators Burt and Earl (Michael Gross and the wonderful Fred Ward, reprising their roles from the first film) to save the day--and accumulate some much-needed payola in the process. But this time, the slimy critters may have a few new tricks up their...um, sleeves. Although denied a chance to appear in theaters, this unjustly neglected sequel delivers the same winning mixture of cornpone and gore that made the original Tremors a cult classic. A hoot-and-a-half for horror and SF fans, with some genuine scares and a welcome sense of humor. --Andrew Wright

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Almost as much fun as the first.......2007-04-22

The graboids have ravaged the drilling site of a petrochemical company in Mexico, so company representatives offer a lucrative bounty to Earl (Fred Ward), who has fallen on hard times. Well-armed survivalist Burt (Michael Gross) is also along for the ride, but the rest of the original cast is absent. Fortunately, however, the creative team of Brent Maddock and S.S. Wilson return as well, because they make this outing almost as good as the first one. Just as they did before, they present a powerful creature with one significant weakness that the characters must exploit in order to survive. An intelligent script with lots of laughs and thrills makes for an enjoyable viewing experience.

5 out of 5 stars Hilarious.......2007-03-24

This movie was even funnier than the first. I love how they brought back characters from the first movie and continued storylines. Definitely recommended, but you need to make sure you see the first movie before this one. :)

I'd stop after this one though, Tremors 3 was pretty bad.

4 out of 5 stars WHEN YOU STRIKE GOLD THE FIRST TIME IT'S HARD TO DO IT AGAIN THEY CAME REAL CLOSE!.......2007-03-16

I love the original and I suppose it would be damn near inpossible to top it with a sequel. The did a great job and came close. Very impressive sequel to the first one! The DVD transfer is very good.

4 out of 5 stars it's a friggin' monster movie!.......2007-01-26

I'm so tired of some people whining about how this movie is a let down when compared to the first one. It's a movie about giant underground worms that morph into something else...HELLO!!!! This film does exactly what it set out to do, help you ecscape for an hour or two to relax and enjoy a great b-movie. The scene with Burt blowing the s@!t out of the creature with the giant rifle is worth every penny!

4 out of 5 stars Tremors 2: Aftershocks.......2006-12-07

Okay, my wife thinks I am crazy but I really like the Tremors movies (I-IV) and the TV series as well. I purchased the DVD for Tremors II to upgrade from the VCR tape that I had watched numerous times. This is probably the best of the sequels to the original movie. Fred Ward does an excellent job recreating his character, but the actor in the role of the sidekick is a little lame (the only real downside to the entire movie). Of course, it would be hard to top Kevin Bacon who starred with Fred Ward in the first movie. If you like Tremors I, then this should be your next purchase.

4 out of 5 stars Good old-fashioned Western complete with monsters!.......2007-01-05

The original Tremors was a modern-day Western in many respects, with stars Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward playing the two cowboys who became monster hunters against their will. Michael Gross (Family Ties) played against type as the slightly-skewed survivalist who never saw a firearm he didn't like (or own). Gross carries the lead role in "Tremors 4" as Hiram Gummer, Burt's grandfather, a true "Eastern dude" in fancy dress who must travel to Rejection (not Perfection) Nevada to find out why his silver mine has suddenly stopped producing.

Hiram Gummer is much closer to Gross's "euridite gentleman" persona that he played so well on Family Ties, and the veteran actor has a lot of fun with the role as the story unfolds. The desperate town actually hires a real live gunslinger to "fill the monsters full of lead", yet it is Hiram who must eventually save the day. There's a genuineness to this film in its respect for its characters and subtle reverence to the pioneer spirit of the 1800's that takes this film to a higher level, echoing the days of classic Western TV shows like Gunsmoke. The Chinese couple with their young son are the town's immigrants, the forebears of storekeeper Walter Yang in the first film, and the townspeople as a whole form a nice ensemble around Hiram Gummer's increasingly desperate efforts to save the town.

As in the original, there is a rootin'-tootin' showdown with the monsters, complete with a cannon(!) that is worthy of Gunfight at the OK Corral, only messier. Director SS Wilson wisely limited the use of CGI here in favor of the more traditional special effects used in the first film, which allows the monster scenes to broaden instead of detract from the story.

In the end the stalwart townspeople win after amassing a sizable body count, but we are shown the birth of Perfection Nevada as they repaint the name on their recently-built water tower, and Hiram receives a wedding gift from his bride-to-be: a brand-new Gatling gun. (He's a lousy shot, you see.) Of course, they all agreed to never tell anyone about the "dirt dragons" they had vanquished, otherwise the town would never grow!

An excellent bookend on the series, and the only sequel that's proven worthy of the original film. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars The Legend Begins.......2006-07-06

The film may be called Tremors 4, but this is very much a prequel to the three movies seen thus far and the TV Series. This film is set in 1889 pretty much 100 years before the events in the first film. In this film Hiram Gummer (Michael Gross aka Burt Gummer in the previous movies and series) a rich, high class snob who owns the silver mines. Its here that the Legend begins as whilst mining the workers employed by Hiram stumble upon the origins of the Grapoids, and subsequently begin to disapear. Hiram can't get the local town people of Rejection to help him kill the Grapoids preventing him from mining, so he has to hire a lean guman. Black Hand Kelly arrives in town, collects his fee and then with Hiram sets about taking on the Grapoids.
This is a good film and a vast improvement over the poor series and the very low budget third movie. Michael Gross is on the ball again, playing the Great Grandfather of his better known Character Burt. The film does well to show the change in character of the Gummer's, from snooty businessmen to crazed gun-loving hunters. Also the fact the film moves away from the heavy CGI use seen in the TV Show and 3rd Film and goes back to the Anamatronic Puppet effects seen in the first two films does a lot to make the action more believable and steer it back towards the first movies quality.
The only slight downers with the film would be its slow start and the action seens are a little on the short side. Another thing I didn't like is that with this being a 'Straight to Video' production it has a low budget so the cast is pretty much as cheap as possible, so there is some really bad acting. However it didn't stop me from enjoying this film as I have the others in the series. I can only hope they keep the stories coming and hope for Tremors 5.
If you're a fan of the Tremors films you'll love this one as its better than the other two movies, but is not as good as the first probably due to the bigger budget and the star cast. Its a step back in the right direction however and is certainly a good film to pass a an hour or two.

2 out of 5 stars Low Budget History.......2006-12-10

DVD came in an envelope with no case - only a paper sleeve. Can't expect much more for $2.95. No narration - no sound, no captions. Some good footage though. If you were to view this DVD not knowing there was an earthquake and fire in San Francisco in 1906, you'd have thought it was bombed. Shows well the destruction and devastation. This DVD would be a good candidate for a knowledgeable narration and better editing.

5 out of 5 stars At last... on DVD!.......2002-06-10

Tremors is one of those films that you just happen to see one night. It's raining, it's winter, there's nothing better to do... by chance you see this movie, and it's superb!

Based on the fairly standard 'horror' storyline of some undiscovered monsters turning up to eat people and the guys who turn out to be heroes to save the day, Tremors has nothing new: however, it does everything right.

The story holds together really well, the acting is excellent (particularly from Bacon, Ward and Gross) and the tongue-in-cheek humour is well-timed. It's a must-see for anyone who likes to take their films with a pinch of salt, and doesn't analyse absolutely every tiny little thing. Tremors takes the viewer for a nice, fun ride with a few surprises, thrills and shocks to keep the heart pounding.

Tremors 2 follows on with Ward and Gross returning to fight the Graboids once again. Despite my immediate fear that, being a sequel, it would be rubbish, I was pleasantly surprised. The humour is still evident, the story holds up well and includes new surprises without being silly... and there's even a bit of love interest.

Now... all we need is Fred Ward's "Remo, Unarmed and Dangerous" and our DVD collections can be complete. *chuckle*

    4 out of 5 stars cool movie.......2002-01-10

These movies are great. Tremors is better then Tremors 2 though. i saw these movies when i was about 6 or 7. i loved them. there funny and suspenseful. when you watch them you cant take your eyes of the t.v. all in all these movies are cool. (so is Tremors 3)

3 out of 5 stars Love this movie.......2001-11-04

I love this movie, I'm not a horror movie guy, but I guess I just love that Captin Kurk logic. "you can think your way out of anything"

In a small desert town, people are turning up dead, but know one can make sense of the deaths untill the killers start getting closer. The killers are beasts the size of wales that can move under the ground as fast as sharks can swim. the only safe place is to be off the ground. a few towns people find a way to get together to battle these huge creatures. very comparable to Jaws, and as good a Jaws.

    5 out of 5 stars Awesome.......2001-10-01

This is the coolest of the early 90s. Plus it comes with 2.

    4 out of 5 stars Intense thriller.......2001-06-08

Tremors is an excellent movie. It keeps you on the edge of your seat non stop. It's one of the few good horror films out there that you will want to watch over and over again. Kevin Bacon does a great job in this. Tremors 2 Aftershocks doesn't quite live up to the original. It is a good movie, but is lacking the level of suspence and thrills of the first one. It does have it's moments though. You won't regret buying this 2 pack.
