During the 1980s, one cartoon series ruled the airwaves... The Transformers. This paragon of consumerism was created with a dual purpose--to entertain and to galvanize children to buy the toys. Somewhere along the line, the show became a cult favorite, so in 1986 they fashioned an epic tale of good versus evil specifically for the big screen. The result looked vaguely like an animated remake of Star Wars. Who are the Transformers? The good guys are the Autobots: Optimus Prime, SoundWave, Jazz, Ultra Magnus, and many more. Their mortal enemies are the evil Decepticons, led by Megatron and StarScream. The Autobots must save their home planet from an evil entity known as Unicron (voiced by Orson Welles). At the same time, they must defend themselves from an all-out attack from the Decepticons. Along the way, lives are lost, battles are fought, and a new Autobot leader is born as another dies. The story and action never stop in a thrilling ride that often makes you forget that you're watching an '80s cartoon with inferior graphics. The violence will also come as a mild shock to those who haven't seen this film for a while--definitely a movie for the 8 and over audience. For those who grew up on this series, this is a movie that must be watched. Unlike cartoon serials before and after, The Transformers relied on solid stories and interesting characters, a manifesto the film itself upholds with gusto and grace while also being morally responsible. Don't underestimate this movie; there is definitely more to it than meets the eye. --Jeremy Storey

5 out of 5 stars Compare this to the latest movie (2007) and this one RULES! .......2007-07-04

To be perfectly clear here, this review is CO-WRITTEN by a person who loved Transformers when they were at the height of their popularity. If you had a kid like that, your house was probably filled with various transformers, some of which linked together to make one HUGE transformer.

I never fully appreciated the appeal of these toys but their power, their magic was indisputable. Day and night, they were a favorite toy, providing hours of imaginative play. If you were crazy about Transformers (or had a kid who was) you should relate to this review.

Anyway, according to my co-writer, who still has a serious attack of nostalgia when it comes to Transformers, the newest movie "sucks" and this old version "rules". I'll concede to his opinion. I do know that the toys became popular after the tv show became a favorite of kids and, from that point on, names like Optimus Prime and Decepticon rolled off the tongues of my kids (all males) as they started collecting them like mad.

Anyway, if you found the newest movie a disappointment, give this one a try. It certainly held the attention of a group of adult males who were suffering from some serious nostalgia (and disappointment) after seeing the newest movie. This one relieved some of that pain.

So take that for what its worth - and see what YOU think.

5 out of 5 stars Still a great film........2007-07-01

This has to be one of the best animated movies from my childhood. Nothing brings back such a glorious 80's sensation like this movie does. Naturally, I am probably a little biased because I grew up watching the Transformers cartoon and playing with the toys. But if anyone else did that like I did then they know this movie is the thing to have.

I won't give away any plot but I will say that this movie definately has some high points. The battle between Prime and Megatron is great, the music totally fits with the film and in no way (at least in my opinion) dates it, and the creators actually had the guts to kill off a lot of established characters. Add some great voice acting in with those points and you have a great animated film.

This is a great purchase for any Transformers fan, or any Sci-fi person.

3 out of 5 stars The pinnacle of the Transformers.......2007-06-15

My 3 stars pertains more to this new release than the movie. The movie gets a 5 without a doubt, but for me this special edition wasn't very special. My best friend was the one to buy this and I'm glad he did because to me, its a waste. Since I already own the original and I'm satisfied with that. I wont beat on a dead horse cause most of the reviewers went in very deep detail with the wide screen format and how cut and cropped this new release is. I was hoping for some deleted or newly added scenes to the movie and all of the original commercials even concerning the toyline. This was the only cartoon in the 80's that mattered to me. So I was really disappointed with the extras. However for those who has never seen this movie or have no knowledge of the original Transformers I'll try to be brief with it.

First off, If your new or looking for that nostalgic feeling you had years ago. Then I recommend buying the seasons. The seasons contain all of the character development of the Transformers before the movie. If you watch this just to rekindle some old fond memeories, its possible you may hate this and you won't give a damn about any of the characters, because they didn't get the chance to grow on you. You didn't experiance most of the heroics of several Autobots and what made them legends. Most importantly you won't feel the sorrow of watching some of the characters killed off or already on the ground destroyed. You will definitly never truly understand or appreciate the power struggle between Megatron and Starscream. So I advice those to watch seasons 1 and 2 to get a much better experiance of the movie. I'm not saying you have to watch the episodes. But I noticed some of the undeserved 1 star reviews concerning the movie itself was because people didn't know the characters.

Now for the movie itself. The Autobots and Decepticons continue their billion + years of war. This conflict was pretty brutal and saw the end of several characters that made the first 2 seasons milestones. New characters were developed and a brand new threat arised that jeopardized the existance of both waring armies. The animation is the absolute best you will see from anything Transformers. The 80's soundtrack was cool for that time. I just don't enjoy it the way I used too.

Transformers was and still is my favorite cartoon of the 80's. In fact this is the only one that I own and was able to sit down, watch, and enjoy. As far as I'm concerned I'll never get rid of it. This cartoon is timeless. And it can very easily stand up to or knock off just about everything that is out now, came out, and ready to comeout. And thats not just in my opinion either. I feel if you already own the original then this is good for a rental just to see the extras. If you want 2 copies of this movie than good for you. However, should you ever decide to purchase the complete Transformers collection. Also add Beast Wars and Beast Machines to your collection. You cannot go wrong with these.

4 out of 5 stars A few facts about the Transformers G1 Collection form China.......2007-07-03

There are some frustrations with this collection; so I will get them out of the way. My friend was happy to see this Transformer surprise; however, he was very frustrated when trying to figure out how to hear the DVDs in English. I think there should be simple instructions sent along to the buyers to make their experience better. I, on the other hand, figured it out in about 10 minuets after he gave it back to me.

In order to change the language to English do the following:

1. Click on the left side of the auto bot design (your left)
2. Click on the middle selection.
3. Click on the bottom of the auto bot design if you are in the middle of an episode to continue, if not click on the top of the auto bot because this will return you to the main menu.
4. Click on the right side of the auto bot design (your right) to go to screen selection. The numbers on the bottom will take you to different episodes which the titles will appear in English once you click on them.

Another downside is that there is one episode out of the 98 that cannot be heard in English. Also, there are a few of these collections in which the movie cannot be heard in English either no matter what you do. Our movie is one that cannot be heard in English, however, we already have the movie...so it's no big deal.

Now here is the good stuff.

1. The English is not a foreigner speaking English. It is the original voices.
2. You get all 4 seasons of Generation 1 for about the same you would pay for each individually. I bought my set for about $60. In addition, each season seems to have a Part 1 & Part 2 sold separately; therefore, it could cost you $300 plus to get all of Generation 1 if bought separately.
3. The menu in the front of the CD holder gives the titles in English and Chinese.
4. The menu within the screen selection section is in English and Chinese.
5. It has nice packaging for a gift. It is in a silver tin with well illustrated CD Holder dividers.
6. Comes with cheesy transformer key chain and postcards.

5 out of 5 stars It's what it says and more!.......2007-07-02

If you are a transformers fan, then there is no reason you shouldn't own this. The set is completely stacked with a keychain, postcards, and an amazing book/cd case. For me the DVD's loaded up in English without even doing anything! The ONLY complaint I have is the DVD cases...they are just paper thin sleeves of plastic....not much of a problem though, because none are scratched. I may go buy some cheap sleeves for the discs.

5 out of 5 stars Language question.......2007-07-02

For the people that own this complete set...In the discription it says you can switch the languages from english to chineese...is this true and is there anything else that could ruin the watchability of theses dvds since they are imports...thanks.

5 out of 5 stars Transformers.......2007-06-27

It is a chinese import but if you explore the menu you can change it to english. The menu is in chinese, There are 95 episodes + the 1986 movie. Intitially i was upset when i thought it was only chinese and the seller was genereous to offer a full refund. After finding the language section of the menu i'm gladly keeping it.

There is a comparison disc comparing the 80's cartoon to restroation done in a side by side it is the first disc labeled with chinese charcters. The episodes start on the disc labeled "disc 1".

there is a carbon paper sheet lableing each episode in english inside the booklet.

I will gladly accept a chinese cover, and a little playing with the menu to get to english to have a collection of cartoons i grew up on. Thank you very much.

5 out of 5 stars Transformers G1 Series China Import PERFECTION!!.......2007-06-26

I recently purchased this amazing product and I could not be more satisfied. Granted the accompanying book is in Chinese, but the episode descriptions, and text on the bonus features disc was all in English, and the audio form the episodes and the animated movie was all in English 5.1 channel surround sound :) . The menus were easy to navigate through and select an episode with no problems. The discs are all read correctly by my region 1 DVD player. If you love the Transformers and you love little extras in your DVD collections (keychain, cool artwork postcards, a Transformers shopping bag, and a neat book) then this is your product. I could not be more pleased with the content, extras, and especially the price point!

5 out of 5 stars The Beast Within!.......2007-06-06

People say that everyone is wild on the inside, but I don't think that they had robots in mind. The "Transformers" are back and, in my opinion, better than ever! The Autobots and Decepticons are long gone. This story is about their descendents, the smaller, but just as powerful, Maximals and Predicons. The Predicons steal an ancient Golden Disc from the Maximals and try to get away, but they are chased by a Maximal exploration ship. Both of the ships do battle and, during the battle, both are sent back in time millions of years. Both ships crash down onto a strange planet that looks like Earth, and even has the same animals that Earth has, but the planet has TWO moons! All Transformers, both Predicon and Maximal, survive the crash, but there is a problem. The planet is toxic to them and in order to survive, they scan the bodies of animals in the area and take their forms for protection. Now, both sides try desperately to destroy the other in a war for survival...a war for honor...a war of beasts.
NOTE: Sorry for the long review, but when I start writing, I am hard to stop. Thanks for reading and I hope you purchase and enjoy "Beast Wars: The Complete First Season".

5 out of 5 stars Beast Wars season 1.......2007-01-19

Excellent kid DVD. Great jokes and fun situations that these Predacons and Maximals get into. Wonderful voices for each character.

4 out of 5 stars A fresh start to the transformers, the weekest of the 3 seasons, stories not tied together as much.......2007-01-19

When this came out in the mid-90s, I was suprised to catch it on one of the local channels early sunday mornings. Transformers were back, and at the time in really cool computer graphics. The Maximals, decendents of the ancient autobots, and the Predicons, decendents of the ancient decepticons, battle it out on a remote planet (found later to be earth). It is a fun story line watching the first season as they adapt to this new world. episodes 1-2 are tied together, then the other episodes are just kinda loose, no major storyline carried over episode to episode. As the season nears the end, and into the 2 and 3rd seasons, the stories get placed more into a continueing theme storyline. Looking at the computer animation now, it was kind of crude, even compared to the Beast machines episodes, but it was good at the time. So if you like the original transformers, I think you will addapt well to this cartoon series. Check it out, still affordable here on amazon and easy to get a entire series cheap.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding!.......2007-01-04

Like a few others I judged this show before I saw it almost ten years ago and didn't give it a chance. I decided to take a gamble, and behold another late fan. Before I was done watching the first disk I wasted no time ordering the 2nd, 3rd seasons and Beast Machines. Usually I dont trust the costumer reviews, but this is one time I'm glad I did. I wont include any spoilers in this review except the two iconic characters Prime and Megatron are both in this and their characters are still the same for the most part. The new look is cool, but the stories is the strong point. Excellent voice acting and the action scenes are very good. What I really like up to this point, there are NO human companions so far. So if your the type who gave up on Armada and Energon and those human companions annoyed the hell out of you. Then this is your dose of a good product worthy of the Transformers name. Highly recommended.

4 out of 5 stars Beast Wars: First Steps.......2006-10-21

BW was getting its feet under it in the first season. That was readily apparent in the voice talent getting a feel for its respective characters, and CGI errors that weren't made later on.

Still, the first season is very solid. It shows the characters thinking their way out of tight spots, dealing with the realities of war, and also includes links to the original Transformers series. (I.E., the appearance of Starscream, mentions of the "Great War", and so on.)

***Spoilers***
One of my personal favorite episodes is "Dark Voyage." It shows Rhinox, Cheetor, Rattrap and Dinobot rendered blind, damaged and low on power in an Energon explosion. Under attack from Waspinator and Terrorsaur, Rhinox has his team "picture a targeting grid in your head, like the one we use in practice simulations." Using this technique, Rhinox is able to tell his team where to fire, and fight off the Preds. A perfect example of using your head when the usual methods don't work.

I recommend this for any tran fan, old and new. The CGI might take some getting used to, particularly if you're used to conventional animation, but once you do, the show will definitely stand out.

3 out of 5 stars Great show, but wait for the Sony release.......2007-03-09

Beast Wars is one of the BEST television shows of the 1990s. The characters, the scope -- it's something rarely seen in television at all, let alone children's television.

This was the season that made the series. New characters born, tragic deaths and references to the vast history or the Transformers world. Mixing humor with the heavy drama, season 2 was a monument of television.

However this particular DVD release from Rhino home video presents the show in a dissapointing manner. The menus are hard to navigate, and there are NO SPECIAL FEATURES, except for about 30 seconds of test animation from season one.

Sony/BMG now owns the rights to the original Transformers cartoon, and is releasing it on DVD. Presumably, they will do the same with Beast Wars, since Rhino home video has gone out of bussiness. And if the Sony release of "Transformers: The Movie" (which came with several hours of special features)is any indication of what their Beast Wars release will be like, than it will indeed be worth waiting for.

As the first season wrapped up, the Beast wars series was starting to hit its stide. The stories were good, episodes started to flow together, and characters were developing. The second season continues this and expands even more. This is my favorite string of episodes. I caught the series just at the end of this season, which hooked me for the third season. In the second season you get more plot and ongoing stories, and lots of action. And the tie in to the original transformer's series, briliant. Ravage was a cool addition to the plot, a cassette still, but now a mercenary that speak. It looks like other reviewers have done the plot summaries already for this season. All I can say it that it was the episodes in this season that got me hooked for the third season. Check this set out transformer fans, affordable and fun.

5 out of 5 stars If you dont own this, then you dont like Transformers.......2007-01-10

Man, this is easily one of the best collections I own, and I own a lot. I cant believe that Beast Wars was this good. This is by far the best of the seasons. All the characters and new ones are developed. It has great action. But the stories is the strongest point. I will not spoil anything for you in this review. If your a fan of TF and haven't seen this because you thought the concept of them being animals was stupid, then you are missing out on probably the best series in the Transformers franchise. All 3 seasons are highly recommended.

4 out of 5 stars Amazing 2nd season.......2006-05-06

Probably the best all round season of all the transformers saga. The characters and plots are taken to the next level and the ongoing storylines are animation are amazing. The only drawback are some of the new beast modes (I am sure the were just bending to the needs of the toy manufacturers) as some of them were just not good. This is the season that all others should be held up to.

If you have kids, they will love this show. It has it all, animals, robots, love stories, good guys vs bad guys, and humor. It's a great story line, and a great cast.

4 out of 5 stars Beast Wars Transformers - The Complete Third Season.......2007-01-21

i remember years ago when they had it on tv and all our kids just talk about, we ever got to see the end of the show.

i give it a four star rating because i think the ending could have been longer. any how it was well worth the money, now i have all three season.

5 out of 5 stars The best season of the beast wars, exciting ending, wish it went longer........2007-01-19

This is the season I really got into the beast wars series. It was always on early sunday mornings on one of my local channels. It writes the final chapter in the beast wars...or does it? Great action and stories. This season introduces a couple of new characters, transmetal 2. I feel that it just ended abbruptly, with the middle episodes just being Kinda blah, but the beginning and end were good. Check out Transformers: Beast Machines if you liked this series, especially this season...Beast machines is addictive to watch, and continues a fresh series with tie in to this one. Enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars Kick a** collection.......2007-01-10

If you own the first 2 seasons then you probably already ordered this one. This collection ends the beast wars. I wont spoil anything as usual. I hate spoilers. I'll just say you won't be disappointed with this final season. The stories are great and the action is very good. I love this series. I just wish it could have lasted a little bit longer. Highly recommended.

3 out of 5 stars Transformers Cybertron.......2007-04-02

Good movie to watch. Full of action. My son likes watching it but not often.

5 out of 5 stars The definitive guide to Transformers.......2007-03-22

My 6-year old son just adores this book. He's had the book for 2 months now and still spends time, every day, pouring over the pictures, cataloging his collection, and making lists of the Transformers he needs to get.

5 out of 5 stars Robots in Disguise.......2007-01-19

Very nice product. Contains lots of special sound effects that kids love!!! Excellent to play with good speakers.

4 out of 5 stars Cybertron.......2005-10-07

Well, all very interesting. About the DVD itself, watch out. It only has episodes 2-5. This means that I will probably never see episode one of this series. But, oh well.

Since that's about all there is to say for the DVD, let me talk about the show. Though it seemed that this would be a continuation from energon/armada, it really isn't. In the show they never say so, and too much would be unresolved. It seems that it is a series unto itself.

From all the transformers I've seen, this series is really good. Compared to the 2 before it, it is outstanding. It makes sense, and it's cool. Finally, there is a series where Megatron can kick Optimus's butt! The animation is an awesome touch, and though the illustated shows are cool, it's nice to have another one since Beast Wars.

The shows have a cool plot. The Autobots need to collect the four Cyber Planet Keys (as Optimus laboriously states in the opening song every weekday) to close the black hole. Megatron wants them to gain power and rule the universe.

The four on this disc are good, being that they set up the whole plot for the series, but are drastically missing episode one. But who cares, they were cool enough for me to get it.

4 out of 5 stars A New Begging.......2005-09-24

First their was G1 that lead to Beast Wars and Machines. Then in a different Universe there was Robots in Disguise, followed by Armada, which led to Energon, well now the Autobots are back on Earth, and want to find these new Planet Kes to save Cybertron from a wormhole, but the Decepticons, lead by Megatron, want them to revive Unicron. This DVD contains episodes 2-5 but episode 1 wasn't dubbed in time so they didn't include it. This is a hole new Transformers Universe, what surprises a hold.

The animated adventures of the Transformers took a dramatic turn with the 1999-2000 series Beast Machines; the complete series set, which compiles all 26 episodes of its two seasons, will give fans either a chance to re-examine this controversial series, or more fuel for their particular likes or dislikes. Beast Machines picks up where the previous (and well-liked) Transformers series, Beast Wars, left off, with Optimus Primal and the remaining Maximal team returning to their home planet of Cybertron, and still in their animal forms. There they discover that the planet is without power, and a race of drone machines known as the Vehicons on the prowl for the surviving heroes. Optimus consults with the super computer Oracle, who reveals that Predacon villain Megatron is behind the power loss and the Vehicons, and is using two re-wired Maximals to uncover the Key to Vector Sigma, the mega-computer that gave life ("sparks") to robots, and destroy the Maximals by transforming organic matter into "technomatter." What follows is an epic (and often convoluted) struggle between the forces of Megatron and Optimus that, as with Beast Wars, frequently touches on decidedly mature subjects as spirituality and racial identity. However, the liberties taken with the depiction of many of the characters, as well as the somewhat downbeat ending (which were in part the sources of much division among fans during its broadcast) may turn off those who particularly enjoyed Beast Wars or carry fond memories of the original animated series, from which this is far afield. The four-disc set includes commentaries on three episodes, one with story editor Robert N. Skir and legendary Marvel Comics artist Marv Wolfman, who helped develop Beast Machines, and two with Skir and writer Steven Melching; Skir and Wolfman are also featured in separate interviews, as are voice director Susan Blu and voice actor David Kaye (who essays Megatron). --Paul Gaita

Description

The Beast Wars saga continues as the high-octane yet deeply layered series Beast Machines. The Maximals-led by a now troubled and soul-searching Optimus Primal-must battle the powerful Megatron and his new army of Vehicons while learning a whole new way of transforming that requires mind/body discipline. The future of their home planet of Cybertron is at stake! Get ready for a complex, spiritual, and action-packed chapter in the Transformers story!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Not nearly as bad as some think.......2007-06-08

I admit that I caught up with the hating of this show when it was first on. I decided to buy this dvd because I already have all of G1 and Beast Wars, so I thought I'd complete the collection. Watching it again years later, I realized that BM is actually a really good and insightful show. True, it's much darker than G1 and beast Wars, but that's what gives it depth. None of the characters are perfect, but again their flaws make them worth watching. Cheetor, who I didn't care for at all in BW, has grown up to be a likable character and a decent second-in-command. I especially liked that Optimus was no longer the perfect leader and that while the other Maximals respected him, they thought for themselves. The only thing I was sad to see (as I read many fans were) was the loss of Silverbolt's former charm. I do miss him as a white knight type.

Overall though, Beast Machines is not to be missed.

5 out of 5 stars good series.......2007-05-12

its an outstanding series. I had forgotten how good it was from the last time I saw it. It is a great buy.

5 out of 5 stars Remember this.......2007-03-09

Now for my age generation this was like being shot into the foot when compaired to "Beast Wars," but I have to say this. After years of bashing it and recently finally re-watching it I will say that it was very good and much better than people seem to give it credit for.

4 out of 5 stars Good follow up.......2007-02-11

Beast Machines is the direct sequel to Beast Wars. This time the story begins on cybertron and somehow Megatron has taken over the planet. A few of the characters from beast wars are still around and a few others are introduced. This no way compares to the beast wars(story or action wise) but its good in its own way. Its just a few things I didnt like. If I spoke on them I could easily ruin it for the viewer. If you already own the Beast wars it wont hurt at all to complete your collection. This DVD set comes with 4 disk which is all 26 episodes, that runs around 700 mins. The Transformers saga really does end here. I recommend checking this out only after you seen Beast Wars. If you watch this first, you will be lost and will not enjoy this at all. This is light years ahead of Transformers Armada and Energon though. To be honest, I personally enjoyed the entire Beast Quadrilogy more than Generation 1.

3 out of 5 stars Pretty good.......2007-01-04

Beast Machines is certainly not as good as Beast Wars, but it's still good.
Half of the episodes are pretty good, some are really good, but the final
battle between Optimus and Megatron I must say was one of the best episodes
of either series. If this had been the first show to come out and then Beast
Wars came out as a prequel series, that might have worked better. But still
in all, not a bad show.

5 out of 5 stars Good Movie.......2007-06-12

My boys love the Transformers Movie. I have no complaints. It arrived timely and in good condition.

4 out of 5 stars Unicron Lives!........Again..........2005-03-19

In this disc, the episodes include the introduction of Omega Supreme and Roablock, the Re-birth of Unicron, and the death of two characters, who I won't mention if you do not know and don't want it spoiled. These episodes mainly concern Unicron's re-birth and possessing both Megatron and Shockblast. These are some great Energon episodes, but again, they skip episodes and it interferes with continuity

4 out of 5 stars A great start to season 2.......2007-01-05

The first part of this season starts of great and builds up quickly with a number of multi-episode stories. I had a great time watching these and they still capture kids attention 20+ years later.

4 out of 5 stars Great for Fans.......2006-09-18

Season two is where the Transformes mania really started to take off, even spawning the theatrical movie of 1986. In some ways season two is great. We get a lot more episodes and more characterization for out beloved bots. I think my biggest complaint about the second season would have to be the "Transformer of the week" syndrome that plagued it. This was an unfortunate side effect of the show's popularity. Hasbro was looking to sell as many toys as possible so we had tons of new characters on both sides of the conflict popping up with no explanation. Here is where the pushing aside of fan favorites started. But this season also gave us four episodes focusing on fan favorites the Dinobots, even adding two more Dinos to the beloved team of Mayhem.

While there are some really bizarre episodes in this set like "Atlantis Arise" there are some real gems like "Microbots," "Changing Gears," and despite the silliness of the premise "A Decepticon Raider in King Aurthur's Court." While some of the jokes fall flat, many still make me laugh today. The dialog was written in the west and doesn't tend to suffer the cultural gap that later versions of TF written in the East seem to. Unfortunately animation errors abound and can be a bit jarring at times. It seems they did little to correct these with the release. I really enjoyed the episodes all in all and have a great time popping in a DVD and reminiscing about wishing I could meet Optimus Prime as a kid.

If your a fan of G1, you'll love it.

3 out of 5 stars A Must have for Fans. Subpar compared to Season One........2006-04-30

I bought this and volume 2 as well as Seson one before that.

The epsisodes are good but not as good as Season One. But again, like season one, I would have hoped for worthwhile extras. This season had none, in fact.

Compared to Season One, you get quantity with many more episodes but not neccessarily quality in terms good episodes. With many more episodes, you get about as many good ones as Season One...which are all really good.

Another apsect of Season Two, besides weaker story telling, that I never cared for was the lack of attention to detail, compared to Season One, that went into sound effects and musical score leaving a weaker product in terms of power and detail. The score and sound were more varied but in a bad way as a result. Sometimes less is more.

And, although commerically neccessary, I grew weary, even as kid, of the endless introduction of new characters. I never adapted well to having so many new characters show up every week. The originals were the ones I found engaging. With a few unique exceptions that had some depth and served a purpose like Perceptor, most of the new ones were superfluous and distracting, in my opinion. Again, less can be more.

Still the major flaw with all these "remastered" Transformers DVD's is the total lack of care that went into them. The numerous flubs, glitches and errors in terms of voice and color are were left unchanged. But unlike Season One, they didn't manage to create new ones! Something that still confounds me about the Season One.

You'd think they would have done this small service of correction and clean-up for the Transformers many loyal fans of some 22 years

Still, overall, a good buy for any fan.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome second season........2006-04-24

The continuation of the first season on the legacy of the legendary Transformers show! Fans of the show have said that the second season is better than the first and i have to agree. This is the first part of the second season and it delivers on all accounts with more action, lovable characters, more emotion and more fun then ever.

The episodes are "Autobot Spike" where Spike's mind is transfered into a autobot, "Changing Gears" has Megatron who kidnaps Gears for his Sun Needle experiment, "City of Steel" has Megatron with his constructicons taking over New York City, " Attack of the Autobots" features Megatron who puts the autobots under his control no thanks to a chip, " Traitor" is about Megatron and two of the seekers stole volatile Electrocells from a science lab, "Immobilizler" deals with the Decepticons stoleaing Wheeljack's newest instant Immobilizler as Ironhide feels responsible for it and Spike falls for a lovely girl named Carly. "Dinobot Island parts 1 & 2" has the Dinobots sequested on a island with surviving dinosaurs and Megatron wants the energies of the island that might unleash vortexes from other times, " Master Builder" deals with Grapple wanting to make a experiment for a Solar Power Tower but the Constructicons convicence him and Hoist to build the device, " Auto Berserk" has Red Alert damaged after a battle with a Decepticon and goes nuts.

" Microbots" has Megatron who brings up back the ship that they had been on before and with it a special fuel cell called the Heart of Cybertron as the autobots are shrunken to destroy it. "Megatron's Master Plan parts 1 & 2" deals with Megatron accusing the Autobots of a crime they didn't commit as Spike with friends must clear their names, " Desertion of the Dinobots parts 1 & 2" has the Autobots and the Decepticons suffering malfuction due to lack of a special fuel called Cybertonium as Dinobots with Carly and Spike must recieve it before the Decepticons do, "Blaster Blues" has Blaster who's taste in music destracts the Autobots from hearing an important distress signal and the Decepticons has stolen the Voltronic Galxer communications device and finally " A Decepticon Raider in King Arthur's Court" has Starscream, Rumble, Ramjet and Ravage who chase Warpath, Hoist and Spike in a cave that sends them back to the days of Camelot and they must find a way home.

All episodes are wonderfully remastered with great picture & sound quality especially the original mono and the features are "A Taste of Botcon 2002" that includes interviews with the cast and crew of the show at the convention, Animation goofs with a commentary by a Transformers advisor and interview with Transformers writer Earl Kress.

5 out of 5 stars Soundwave.......2006-01-20

I don't think season 2 is better than season one. My favorite character is Soundwave. In the episode "Auto Beserk" they FINALLY give Soundwave his props in the opening battle. He releases four of his cassettes, Rumble, Frenzy, Ravage and Buzzsaw, to fight the Autobots and I must say he is a formidable foe! I don't understand why Starscream was second in command when it should have been Soundwave.

Someone else mentioned the Bumblebee/Spike deal. This is very true. I'm exhaused that they are always eavedropping on the Decepticons plans and foiling them. Soundwave should have been able to pick up their sensors as soon as they enter the room. Just some techincal ramblings to show Soundwave was definitely underused.
