What a disappointment. If you buy this product thinking you're going see any of the shorts that you remember as a kid you will be disappointed

There are about 5 Three Stooges shorts from Columbia that are in the public domain that have been released on DVD and VHS in different formats with different titles, but it is mostly the same old stuff. The same holds true with a number of rare items, such as the 1949 TV pilot, some solo Shemp shorts, and other TV guest appearances. Most of these compilations are from Good Times Home Video, as is the Festival title.

Three Stooges Festival is more of the same, but the good news here is that there is also a 4 DVD version under this same title. One of the DVDs is this one. There are two DVDs called Funniest Moments and Funniest Moments II. And one is called The Three Stooges Story.

Funniest Moments are taken from the live action intros the team did for the 1965 series of cartoons called The New 3 Stooges. The box proclaims that this shows the Stooges at the height of their popularity and are a rare glimpse of the team in color. All of that is true, but their peak actually came about 5 or 6 years earlier. The segments aren't very good, the accompanying music is tough to sit through, but the cartoons, which were of varied quality, have been edited out. The best thing is that on volume II, the very last segment is an 8 minute, black and white appearance of a rather amusing routine taken from the Ed Sullivan show. I can't remember if I saw this when it originally aired, but I know there were several appearances on Ed Sullivan, as well as Joey Bishop's late night show and others. If these could be found and released it would certainly be worth it to serious collectors.

The real find of this four pak is the documentary called The Three Stooges Story. It is more than twice as long as the other DVDs in the pak and is chock full of stuff I have never seen before. And it makes good use of snippets from stuff that has been out before.

If you can find this four pak, it is at a good price, only about what one would pay for a regular movie DVD for all four here, and well worth it for the documentary and that Sullivan clip.

Three Stooges.......2001-06-04

The Three Stooges look great on DVD! The new "technicolor" imagery provides greater depth and a better viewing experience. Although, this DVD didn't have my favorite 3 Stooges clips, it was packed full of other hair-raising and ridiculously funny comedy the Stooges were famous for.

Don't be a Stooge!.......2003-06-21

I was disappointed with both the selection and particularly since Shemp is in most of the films. When one thinks of the Three Stooges the original Curly is essential. Sure give Shemp one but every other one! You are better off taping the shows and viewing them on your VCR; DVD doesn't necessarily mean better!

Great Festival!.......2001-09-24

4 movies: Disorder in the Court, Bridless Groom, Sing a Song of Six Pants, and Malice in Plance. They all equal about 80 minutes. Special Features: Biography, Film info, and Photo gallery. All together a great movie at a great price.

Blast from the past.......2001-07-13

I missed the old days when I sat in front of the TV in the 80's and laughed at Moe, Larry, and Curly. This dvd brings back the laughter with digital video and audio quality. You can just experience the pain of Moe slapping Curly on the head or Larry getting his hair pulled out.

For the hard core Stooges fanatic.......2006-02-24

_I admit that when I first bought this collection I thought that I had been ripped off. That is also what the casual Three Stooges fan is probably going to think too. However, I changed my mind after the third time I watched it through. It really isn't that bad. In fact, it is a pretty good historical overview of Stooge material.

_The Funniest Moments half of the program is probably misnamed. These are not the funniest moments of the Columbia shorts. What these are is the complete set of live-action "wrap-arounds" for the animated Stooges cartoons from 1965. These are really under-rated. They show that the team lost none of their timing in their twilight years. It was one last chance to showcase their perfectly polished and timed routines. These all feature "Curly-Joe" DeRita. Personally I liked DeRita. He was a good and genuinely funny man that fit in well with Moe and Larry. He had a gentleness that fit the mellowing of the act.

_The Festival half is more varied in content and quality. First it has two movie trailers- a "Stoogeploitation" cheapy from 1959, and a Ted Healy relic (Curly's first film appearance.) Then you get all of the Columbia short, "Disorder in the Court." This is followed by old television kinescopes: an excellent appearence as CBS executives on the Ed Wynn show (with Shemp), A surprisingly good guest shot with Frank Sinatra, the failed pilot for their first television show (the first time that their timing seems off), a painful talk show appearence by Moe (I see now that Moe's timing and delivery were good- it was the hacks around him whose timing and ad-libs were terrible), and a U.S. Savings Bond commercial from 1969 (one of their last appearances.) Oh yes, there is also a "wraparound" that wasn't included on "Funniest Moments" only this time it includes the animated cartoon (the animation quality wasn't great, but it was about average for the time.)

If you ever find me not laughing at the Stooges, then bury me- cause I must be dead.
