Description
A sometimes funny sometimes brutal look at two young men who, at all costs, are enjoying their last days as "free and single men." Before surrendering to their girlfriends' marriage demands, "Peanut" and "Bang" embark upon amorous escapades throughout the city. Peanut is committed to consuming all the women, sex and booze he can handle without losing his mind. Bang is into grind parties and coke. I didn't like these series of dvd's. If you are the kind of person who likes the basic jump up and down exercises, then this is not for you. I found it hard to get into the moves. For maybe ten minutes I stood there rewinding and pausing so I could get the moves down. I've tried other FIRM tapes and I have realized that I don't really like their aerobic workouts they are to hard to follow.The sculpting tapes I can live with. My boyfriend saw me trying to workout to the tapes and he couldn't stop laughing at me. I looked like a I had no rhythm. I didn't recommend this to my friends so I will do the same for you.

The step routine is very hard on your knees. I do a lot of exercises and do not have a problem with knee pain, but this one is really bad.

This company is very unethical. If you buy direct from them, they sign you up for an online membership that they don't even tell you you signed up for. They then refuse to credit you for it.

If you order a sample of their whey protein, they send you a whole box and tell you the samples are in the box and if you don't want to pay for it, you can mail it back to them. What a bunch of crooks.

Although the videos in this particular BSS series are good, they aren't as challenging as previous or especially the newer BSS 3 & 4 series. Total Sculpt's flow of exercises doesn't keep your heart rate up enough - especially for advanced exercisers. Maximum Cardio has one of the hardest ab segments at the end, but the cario portion needs to be bumped up to another level - very beginner oriented. Complete Aerobics and WEights is a great workout tape - keeps your heart rate up and the sculpting is tough. Ab Sculpt is again, more for the beginner exerciser.

4 out of 5 stars Breakdown of Complete Aerobics and Weight Training and Maximum Cardio Burn Plus Abs.......2006-03-25

I have two of the four videos in this set, Complete Aerobics and Weight Training and Maximum Cardio Burn Plus Abs, which I've broken down in detail below. Overall, these are fun, intense workouts which provide a cardio effect as well as toning work. The high step (Fanny Lifter) is a great tool for shaping the lower body, and I am really seeing results! I don't have the Firm Sculpting Stick but describe substitutions below.

Complete Aerobics and Weight Training: Fun to do and a great workout too!

I have had very little experience with The Firm, but lately, I've been enjoying videos that feature aerobic weight training (such as the FitPrime and WHFN series), so I decided to give this a try. Complete Aerobics and Weight Training is a 58-minute workout which combines cardio segments with cardio/sculpt intervals to give you a great workout; it's led by Emily Welsh. Equipment used in this workout includes The Firm "Fanny Lifter," a 2-part step (both the full step and the low position are used here), 3 sets of dumbbells, and The Firm "Sculpting Stick" (dumbbells can be substituted and/or you can use a wall/mop for balance).

The workout begins with an basic 6.5 minute warm-up that quickly gets the heart pumping, especially with the set of push-ups at the end. Next comes 4-limbed toning work, combining squats and dips with shoulder presses and bicep curls. Upper body only work follows, and then it's the first cardio segment, which includes some fun punches and flows nicely from one combination to the next. More lower body work follows, this time incorporating the stick for balance--you could double up with the weights and forgo the bar, but this section is tough even with it! The stick is also used as a weight for hover squats, but I just substituted heavy dumbbells, which worked fine. The next cardio segment uses the low portion of the Fanny Lifter. Because I don't do step aerobics, I had a little bit of trouble picking up the choreography here, but still, I found the moves to be fun and especially enjoyed the kicks.

Alternating lower and upper work follows with plies and bicep curls. The stick is again used for balance leg presses with abduction. There is also triceps work with the french press and triceps kickbacks--the latter set is short, so you probably want to use both arms for the entire set instead of alternating as shown. The final cardio segment uses the ends of the sculpting stick, or "twigs," but just pick up light weights (I used 3#) and you'll be fine. Again, the moves are kickboxing-inspired, with punches, side kicks, and a fun little hop move. The final toning work is on the floor and includes a 1-arm triceps push-up, flies, pullovers, triceps press, and chest press. The floorwork finishes with a nice abs section that moves quickly through several different crunch variations. (During this section, I recognized some of the music from the Crunch Fat-Burning Pilates floor segment.) A nice final stretch is performed mostly on the floor; Emily is thorough, but none of the stretches are held very long (although I did really enjoy the final neck stretch!). I felt great at the end of this workout--nicely worked out, but not exhausted--and I was pleased to see on my heart rate monitor that I had stayed in my target zone for a full 40 minutes PLUS had burned 341 calories.

Although one of the background exercisers shows modifications throughout, I wouldn't recommend this video to absolute beginners who are unfamiliar with weight training. However, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to more experienced beginners to intermediates looking for a fun, effective routine. I really enjoyed this workout and know that I will use it often.

Maximum Cardio Burn Plus Abs: A solid aerobic weight training workout with a lower body emphasis.

This was my second Firm video from BSS2. I am a relatively newbie to both The Firm and to step aerobics (although I'm familiar with using the tall box, aka "Fanny Lifter," for toning work). This workout is led by Firm master instructor Allie Del Rio and is about 52 minutes long. The only equipment besides the Fanny Lifter is the Firm Sculpting stick, which is sometimes used for balance, sometimes for weighted resistance. I don't have the stick, so my substitutions are described below.

I found the 6 1/2 minute warm-up to be a bit long and repetitive; it ends with a set of push-ups on the box. 4-limbed cardio with the stick comes next, and I found this to be a bit awkward without a stick--my 5# dumbbells were too heavy, and just using a dowel felt too light, so I'm going to need to experiment more here. Then comes toning work with tall box climbs on the step. I really enjoyed this segment, feeling it both in my glutes AND my outer thighs. Allie uses only the stick for balance, but you could try holding weights to make it even more challenging (I found it challenging enough without!). Then it's back to cardio with a kickboxing segment performed without equipment. This was fun, and I liked the little hops added in towards the end. Step aerobics with the short box follows. As I said above, I'm a newbie to cardio with the step, and so I had a bit of trouble with the choreography here, but I slowly started to pick it up--Allie's great cueing helped. Then it's more low-impact aerobics without the step; this wasn't as fun for me as the kickboxing moves. Next, Allie does another step aerobics segment, and this time, I found it a little easier to follow along.

You then repeat the initial leg press series on the opposite leg before moving on to the final cardio segment, which is 4-limbed cardio using the "twigs" (ends of the sculping stick)--my 3# dumbbells worked fine as a substitution here, but some of the moves felt a little awkward to me. Before going on to abs, Allie does a nice segment of standing leg work, which was great for me since I hate floor work! The sculpting stick is used for resistance; I plan to use ankle weights next time. Allie does some nice brief stretches for the legs and then moves on to the floor for abs work. Although the abs exercises appeared pretty standard--mostly basic crunch variations--I was SHOCKED by how tough they were--I consider myself to have a pretty strong core, but I had to modify here! Allie finishes with a nice, full-body final stretch.

I did like this workout, although I was a bit disappointed that I was only in my target HR zone for about 22 minutes; this might improve as I become more familiar with the moves. Also, there were segments of this workout that felt a little too much like traditional hi-lo floor aerobics for my liking. I think that next time I will add my weighted gloves to this workout, which should help both to boost the cardio effect and to make the toning work without the stick easier. Overall, however, I felt that I got a good workout, and I do plan to continue using this video.

          I think this show box set is good except that Lew Anderson is in this and not Bob Keeshan as known as Captain Kangaroo.He was the funnest and everyone laughed like hell when he was in the show.He deserved to be Clarabell for the whole series. Bob Keeshan died almost a year ago. Everyone will miss him and because that death he should have a box set of him Buffalo Bob Smith and characters.

          Further information regarding the two films in this box, Africa & Jack is that they were made by MGM after the boys were lent out to them; a common practice in the days when stars were contracted to the studios. This is also the reason why these two films are not included on the Universal Box Sets as they were made by MGM. They are not held in high regard, the humour is thin and sparse and lacks the magic of some of the others.

          Unless you are looking for a smattering of several different formats to get feel for A & C, the average consumer and A & C fan would be better-off buying a selected individual movie or the new 8 movie collection coming out in February. The movies included are weak compared to the usual A & C talent-studded endeavors (Jack and the Beanstalk and Africa Screams). These are two of the earlier works - not bad, but not up to their other films, in my opinion. They lack the story quality, settings, and cast of their other films that they manage to work their great humor around so successfully.

          The other DVD's weren't bad and include their history of work and lives on one and clips of their television show on the other. Again, OK, but there are so many other great ones available!

          just wanted to let anyone interested know (as it's not mentioned on this page) that this 4 pack includes the two films "Jack and the Beanstalk" (1952, 78 min.) and "Africa Screams" (1949, 79 min.), episodes of "The Abbott and Costello Show," and the documentary "Abbott and Costello in the Movies."

          ... and that's one of the best episodes I've seen. It's a perfect example of the classic Lucy set-up: logical beginnings, but purely illogical, crazy scheme. The DVD says they did their best to clean up this set, which was a portentous sign. The 'I Love Lucy' and 'Here's Lucy' sets are much better viewing quality. It makes me wonder if it is the company issuing these or if they truly were unable to clean them up? Even 'Green Acres', which was made the same time, is immaculate quality. Still, you gotta get 'em when you can find 'em. And, while the plot themes are repetitive and you wish Gale Gordon would tone it down even SOMETIMES (I think Lucy saw him as a quasi-father figure and never gave him hard direction), there are lots of laughs to be had. Thanks for the laughter, Lucy. :-)

          This set contains eight classic episodes on four DVD's including; "Lucy and the French Movie Star", "Lucy Goes to London", "Lucy Meets Sheldon Leonard", "Viv Visits Lucy", "Lucy and the Ring-a-Ding-Ding", "Lucy Gets Caught Up in the Draft", "Lucy Meets the Law" and "Lucy the Bean Queen". I thoroughly enjoy this set and would highly recommend it for any Lucille Ball fan. Produced by GoodTimes DVD and approximately 204 minutes.

          This is a great little box set of dvds. The old Republic feature edited Hi-yo Silver is a quaint reminder of the old cliffhanger, but only serves to remind us that there has only been one true Lone Ranger, Clayton Moore. The Lost Episodes disc is worth the price of admition in itself, it's great to see the various comercials and promos together with the old savings bond film.

          It was also fascinating to see De Forest Kelley making an early appearance (I never knew he ever looked that young!) as well as a guest slot from Don Heggarty, before he was "Struck by lightening".

          Well recommended.
