Garfield as Himself gathers three thoroughly delightful Garfield television specials from the early 1980s, based on the pudgy, self-centered feline character and friends from Jim Davis's popular comic strip. Great, great movie, a must for an original gift!.......2005-09-04

What a great dvd this is! We checked some of these on video out of the library for our little one to watch and I was just thrilled to find they were combined on a dvd here on amazon. Here Comes Garfield is really funny - I love how he harasses his neighbor's dog but Odie winds up in the pound as a result. The one-liners that Garfield says in this dvd is just priceless. I particularly like the last one where he's trying to interfere with Jon's love life. Garfield finally relents to Jon dating someone but gets a little sad when she discovers that she is allergic to him. Garfield on the town is quite neat - he finds his mother and was actually born in an Italian kitchen in a lasagna pan (go figure!). It's very, very cute and well done. Wish there were more out there. Be sure you introduce these cartoons to the younger crowd - kids still love them as much as we did when we were young. They're quite a hit in our house!

Hey, how about getting Eddie Murphy or Will Smith to do Garfield's voice now and make a few more of these? Hope someone's listening out there in California land. These dvd's are just classics. Highly recommend!

Garfield rocks.......2005-08-01

Everyones favorite fat TV specials are now on DVD! I love Garfield, and when I found out that there was a DVD i had to have it. In the first episode we see Garfield save Odie from the pound, in the second one Garfield finds his mother, in the third we find Jon trying to spice up his life and get a date. You will not be disappointed with this DVD. I loved it and so will you! For the hard core Garfield fan!

The cover of this DVD shows the 1998 Garfield gazing in the mirror at his early 1978 self, the subject of these three specials. In 1980, Mt. St. Helen's blew it's top, and Garfield's first book, Garfield at Large, topped the New York Times bestsellers list. Two years later, Lee Mendelson and Bill Melendez, the team that brought Peanuts to the screen, unleashed Jim Davis' fat cat in his first prime time special, Here Comes Garfield. His first special was an Emmy award nominee, but the next year he took the Emmy with 1983's Garfield on the Town, and returned in a disco-era update, Garfield Gets a Life. Each of these specials was originally released on video, and all three are now together on this bargain-priced DVD for a flashback trip with Garfield down memory lane.

I pratically grew up on Garfield cartoons ever since i was young, i'm sooo glad that these specials are finally on DVD!

The first one " Here comes Garfield" is the first Garfield special ever which introduces everyone's favorite fat orange furball as he with Odie the lovable dumb dog get into big trouble then head to the pound where Garfield must free Odie. Then " Garfield on The Town" has our hero escaping from Jon taking him to the vet by being in the big city streets to meet his long lost mother and battle some mean alley cats. Finally in " Garfield gets a Life" Garfield with Jon are sooo bored with their lives they decide to change it for once including trying to find the perfect girl for Jon.

A great collection of classic garfield cartoons for the entire family and great for both kids and adults alike.

This is a classic film. Here are the shows and they're story.
HERE COMES GARFIELD: Odie is kidnapped after annoying a neighbor, can Garfield save Odie???
GARFIELD ON THE TOWN: On the way to the vet Garfield falls out of the car. Soon he finds his mother, his brother Roioll, and Sly. But can Garfield go home?
GARFIELD GETS A LIFE: Jon needs to find the perfect match and Garfield helps. But, when he does find a match, Dreadful toughts are in Garfields head. Can he find happenies for everybody?
I gave it 4 stars bechause the only trailer is lacking, but besides that, its a gem came true. (Based on DVD version.)

It's Garfield and I have been a Garfield fan since I can remember, so I love it. You can tell that it was done in the time period when Jon Davis was learning to switch from newspaper comics to writing for cartoons, because it's not as fast-paced as later programs, but it's fun to see the evolution of Garfield.

If you waited to get the Garfield specials on DVD, now you'll be glad you did (except you could have already been enjoying them). Here are three DVDs in a reasonably priced and very attractive fat cat pack. Since each DVD contains three specials, you really get nine in all. These specials aired on CBS between 1982 and 1991, attesting to the lasagna-loving feline's continued popularity. Four won Emmy awards and others were Emmy nominees. Included are:

Garfield as Himself: "Here Comes Garfield," "Garfield on the Town," and "Garfield Gets a Life."

Garfield's Travel Adventures: "Garfield in the Rough," "Garfield in Paradise," and "Garfield Goes Hollywood."

Garfield's Fantasies: "Garfield: His Nine Lives," "Garfield's Babes and Bullets," and "Garfield's Feline Fantasies."

The only specials you don't get are the holiday themed ones for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas, which are available on a separate DVD (and Amazon has it at half price).

All in all, here's the purrrfect gift (sorry, I couldn't resist) for any Garfield lover on your list. I was a huge Garfield fan back in the 80's and I'm thrilled to see my children enjoy some of the same cartoons that I watched as a child. My 3 -year-old insists on watching Garfield every night before bedtime and since there are three DVD's in the collection, we rotate them out. I still love Garfield's attitude and now my kids do too! I would definitely recommend this collection!

Garfield - Feline Fantasies is an excellent video for both kids and adults!! I wasn't sure what to expect when I first purchased it, but I was certainly pleased. Plenty of laughs, and very entertaining. Definitely a must-have for any Garfield collection!!

Every now and then, the CGI effects in Garfield: The Movie are less than perfect--which makes you realize how astonishingly seamless the rest of the effects are. When Garfield's owner, Jon (Breckin Meyer, Clueless), agrees to take in a homeless dog so as to flirt with a sexy veterinarian (Jennifer Love Hewitt, I Know What You Did Last Summer), Garfield does his best to oust the dog from the house. But when a greedy television performer (Stephen Tobolowsky, Bossa Nova) kidnaps the mutt for his own nefarious purposes, Garfield sets out on a rescue mission. Garfield is a terrible movie, yet there's something weirdly compelling in its awfulness. Bill Murray (Rushmore, Ghostbusters), who voices the fat cat, has mastered a comic style that wallows fondly in ridiculousness. Perhaps, seduced by the siren call of Murray's voice, the audience can only marvel at the sublime junk of our culture. --Bret Fetzer

My son (and me and my husband) thought this movie was so funny! Especially if you have cats and understand them. It really plays on the way cats act compared to dogs. Its really hilarious in parts. A good clean fun movie for the whole family.

Very goodo movie... for the whole family!.......2007-03-13

Overall the DVD was good and very much appropriate for young children. However, after a couple of weeks it had fallen to the back of his preference list. We've not watched it in over a year now. I guess this isn't so different from any other DVD we have.

I would recommend this for young children. it does have a few scenes that very concervative parents may term violent. The movie is mostly an original concept and follows the exploits of Garfield and Odie that we all grew up with.

The mix of animation and real animals/actors/acresses create a unique experience for all. This is really a great movie!

I have seen this movie many times and I think that it is really great. Liz and Jon should be diffrent so they could match the comics, though. EAT CHICKEN BRAINS!!!!!!!!!!!! I'M CRAZY!!!!!!!!! YOU KICKED MY DOG!!!!

animated cat and where the rest???.......2007-01-27

Unfortunately this is one of those films where all the good bits are in the trailer and there is nothing else to be gained by watching the film the whole way through. Don't get me wrong, there were funny bits but just not enough of them.

I expected the plot to be a little more classier than it was - the bad guy being an evil kidnapping dog trainer, and the human characters in the film were so cheesy it is unbelievable. Yeah, yeah, I know it's a kid's film but it's just not in the same league as some of the other recent kid's movies

Murray at his best!.......2007-01-06

Most comedians end up selling-out and doing cheap, shallow-humoured movies because their careers are slowing down and they need the cash. I would never do that, and Bill Murray hasn't either (not the only thing we have in common, we were also born in the same month!).

Garfield brings some much needed sass to the big screen. And I'm glad he's animated, because that means he won't have any dander (I'm allergic to cats). Just kidding!! (get it? even if it was a real cat, it would be on the movie screen, so I wouldn't be allergic. it wouldn't matter if he was computer generated or real!)

I only caught the first half of this movie because I was getting tired and I still had to watch "Garfield - A Tail of 2 Kitties" that night - my friends and I were doing a Garfield marathon.

Anyways, Murray is a 10. Garfield is a 10. Move over Arbuckle, the fat cat is back Jack!
