His archenemies this time are the Riddler (Jim Carrey) and Two-Face (Tommy Lee Jones). Luckily, he enlists the help of the Boy Wonder, Robin (Chris O'Donnell). The final movie in the series, Batman & Robin, is great eye candy, and this time Schumacher returns with George Clooney as the leading man and Chris O'Donnell again as Robin. Not the Real Deal.......2007-06-30

I had seen 'Batman' awhile back. I then purchased and watched 'Batman Begins'. So much for what came before. I will now give the 'Anthology' to whomever wants it. Batman Begins is true to the DC comics and, what I would decribe as, more serious. It is in a way and epic story. Since this is a review of the 'Anthology', it's OK for what it is. But what it's not is 'the real deal'.

Batman...before Bale.......2007-05-25

Alright. I'll try to be brief.
Batman was good. Joker was weird. but it was interesting to see the 80's take on Batman. The new rubber suit looked very, very stiff. I know they all are, but this was the stiffest. I liked the beginning, but the bat sign on his chest has too many sharp angles that looks ugly. Other than that the story was good, very dark too. Keaton doesn't play the rich boy, playboy persona too well but you get used to it. Surprising that it was joker who killed his parents. Very surprising. 3 out of 5 stars.
Batman Returns was really good. Loved the suit.It fit more on Keaton and wasn't bloated like the first. Absolutely great Catwoman. Michelle Phieffer nailed that part.Penguin was really weird but Danny nailed it too. My one gripe is that they should really stage some good fight scenes. It seems like Batman is just a walking display. Good movie. 3 1/2 out of 5 stars.
Batman Forever...well it was a strange movie. New Bruce...New Batman...Different style. Extremely bright crazy lights and alot of an overreacting Two Face. Riddler was great and funny. Good job Jim. I liked this when it first came out mostly because the action improved alot. Great fights. Hideous Batmobile. Great Robin story. I give it a 3 out of 5, only because it was a lot less realistic than Returns.
Batman and Robin was a complete joke. I actually saw this in the theaters. What a bad movie. Period. I heard the same guys who made the Power Rangers kid show made this. No wonder. Way to goofy and stupid. Even the action couldn't save it. Bad Ivy, Bane is a walking, bulking dunce who only says "AAUUURGHH!" What is with Mr. Freeze. Arnold? Of all the people. Arnold? He was so cheesy in this. Batgirl doesn't help either.This is where everyone thought (including myself) that Batman sunk and would never be ressurected...until he "Begins" again in '05. This gets a 1 out of 5.

Excellent Box Set! Shame on Amazon!.......2007-04-10

Well, I must tell you guys: this product is awesome! It has everything a fan of Batman needs and wants! The only bad thing about it (at least for me) was that I thought all the discs had Spanish subtitles and that was why I bought it, but then when it arrived home, I noticed that only the movies had the subtitles, the other discs with all the bonus features didn't.

I think Amazon should specify which discs have subtitles and which discs don't, so we -all the customers- know what we are going to get. Is it so difficult to write something like: AVAILABLE SUBTITLES: English, Spanish and French (only in discs 1, 3, 5, and 7). That would be fair; Amazon is not a garage shop, it is an international web site where people from all over the world buy products.

Very disappointed. The video has a bubbble in the plastic and does not play. I would like to exchange it. It was a Christmas present.

While I did not like all of the BATMAN movies especially the campy TV one. I found some of them interesting in how different actors approached the project. I was given a gift card for Xmas and I felt it was worth the money I did not spend personally. Holy Arnold Batman now he is The Govenator.

Winner of WORST SUBTITLES award.......2004-11-09

In 1998's "2 X 4" (2 BY 4), the writer/director Jimmy Smallhorne plays Johnnie Maher, an immigrant Irishman who works as a foreman for his uncle's construction company in the Bronx (NY). His coworkers, friends, and (it seems) neighbors are also all recent Irish immigrants, who spend their day working at non-union cheap labor, and their nights drinking, singing (badly) Karaoke and doing cocaine. But Johnnie has some deeper problems, manifested in terrifying nightmares, that hint of something in his past he is trying to repress. This is one more problem which his girlfriend Maria has to deal with, besides the fact that Johnnie admits he has also had bisexual experiences.

The good news: The film won a prize at Sundance for cinematogrpahy, and I have to admit the photography is generally very good. Unfortunately, the acting is poor, the direction beyond awful (and Mr. Smallhorne can be blamed for most of those two), with very sloppy continuity (For example, there are three scenes throughout the film where Johnny is walking into the front door of his apartment building, and the building is different in all three!)

Last, but far from least: The film dialogue is in English, with English subtitles. (No, that's not a typo. Got that?) The *really* bad news is that the subtitles are often needed, since the actors (with the exception of Chris O'Neil, who plays Uncle Trump .... Trump, a construction company in NYC, get it?), besides all having heavy Northern Irish accents, rarely project their voice loud enough to be heard or speak clearly. And this definitely wins my award for WORST SUBTITLES in any film EVER, since they are rarely coordinated with what is actually being said on the screen (More often then not, they are a full 5 seconds early or late), they don't separate character's dialogue (If three people are talking, their dialogue is COMBINED on the screen, with no indication who is who), the subtitles include dialogue or lyrics being heard on a radio or TV (which has nothing to do with the movie) and, at one point, the subtitles included numbers which are likely used by the director to time scenes in editing. The final touch: the subtitles CANNOT be turned off, so you HAVE to look at them!

Some simulated sex scenes, but no nudity below the waist. No DVD extras beyond scene selection. Believe me, the 2 out of 5 stars is quite generous. And it is a shame, as the story could have been told a lot better.

Unsung masterpieces on DVD at last!.......2005-09-29

I never thought I would live to see Otar Iosseliani's Georgian films on DVD with English subtitles. These films are rich with ideas and emotions, and they provide a unique perspective on Georgian culture while retaining a universal appeal. (I would say more about the films themselves, but I'm writing a review elsewhere.) The set includes: a student film, APRIL; his feature debut FALLING LEAVES; THERE WAS ONCE A SINGING BLACKBIRD and PASTORALE. The transfers are director-approved, using clean prints with good contrast and easy-to-read electronic subtitles. Maybe not Criterion-level transfers but quite good nonetheless, especially for Soviet-era films. A very satisfactory edition of must-see-films!

VCI presents another of its popular Red Ryder series starring Allan "Rocky" Lane as Ryder and Bobby Blake as Little Beaver ~ on this double bill both films were personally handled by legendary B-western director R.G. Springsteen ~ Earle Snell was the screenwriter and produced and released by Republic/Sidney Picker Productions ~ with the regular stock company coming to the rescue.

First up is "The Marshal of Cripple Creek" (1947-B&W-58 mins), featuring an all-star cast Martha Wentworth as the Duchess, Tom London, Trevor Bardette, Gene Roth, William Self, Helen Wallace and last but not least Mr. Roy Barcroft (King of the Badmen) who always has an ace up his sleeve ~ this last and seventh film of Allan Lane has everything that a buckaroo could ask for...bankrobbers in a gold-mining town and a chance for Red Ryder to show the right path for a former outlaw to follow.

Let's look at the second outing "Oregon Trail Scouts" (1947-B&W-58 mins), real touching storyline, when Little Beaver met up with Red Ryder and became long-lasting friends and sidekicks...riding the range in adventure after adventure ~ another Republic cast with Ed Cassidy, Emmett Lynn, Edmund Cobb, Earl Hodgins, Jack Kirk and our favorite bad guy Roy Barcroft being hit over the head with a frying pan by Martha Wentworth (the Duchess)...this was the fifth of the seven Red Ryder westerns...this fast paced horse-opera finished with high marks on the entire Ryder Series.

Altogether Fred Harman's Red Ryder appeared in 22 full-length films and one serial "The Adventures of Red Ryder", starring Don "Red" Barry in the title role ~ artist Harman (2/09/1902 - 01/02/1982) was born in St. Joseph, Missouri and made his way illustrating for various publications...his most popular and enduring character was Red Ryder, was later published by Dell in comic book form...I know because I collected each and everyone when I was a youngster...there plenty of action and hard riding...well, you're durn tootin', a line that was used by one of my favorite sidedkicks, George "Gabby" Hayes --- Western Classics, all my heroes have been cowboys!
