I have been waiting for this to come to dvd for so long now. They been putting alot of the 80's on dvd ( rainbow brite, he-man, TNMNT, Care Bears) Finally Strawberry Shortcake. I really hope the continue with the rest of them entitled Pets on Parade, Strawberry Meets the Berrykins ( my favorite), Housewarming Surprise, Baby without a name thens theres a few of Baby Strawberry. But on this particular dvd you get World of Strawberry & Big apple city which a great Start. If they continue looks for those titles.
Have a BERRY happy day and turn that frown upside down..

I can't believe I found this!.......2007-05-14

My sister and I watched this as kids...we had an old tape of it that we've watched a million times. When I found this, I just had to get it (and call my sister to let her know...she freaked out, too). Maybe it isn't the cartoon like today...but it's still great. This was the original Strawberry Shortcake! :)

These movies are GREAT!!! As a young girl I watched these same movies as tv specials, and then later on vhs. These stories are sweet, wholesome, and timeless. I am thrilled that now I can share these same movies with my little ones.

The is the real authentic original Strawberry Shortcake (SS) cartoon that was made in the 1980's. The Strawberry Shortcake 2000 year cartoons where she is wearing a straw hat and jeans is a joke...they should not even be allowed to call it Strawberry Shortcake- what an insult. It is a whole nother cartoon and characters it should be called something else and not associtated with such a classic as the true 80's Strawberry Shortcake classic cartoon. Growing up on SS I am thrilled the real deal on finally on dvd for the new generation to enjoy and appriciate. I hate those fake foney SS re-make new adventure millinium garbage. Buy the classic ones! All you 80's babies and Parnets of 80's babies know what I'm talking about.

The Original Strawberry Shortcake.......2007-04-01

I couldnt believe it when this dvd came out!! I was a 1980's Strawberry Shortcake fan when I was a kid. I bought the dvd for me, really to reminisce but to my surprise, as the animation is obviously dated, my 2 year old daughter loves it!! It is just cute, very basic but I think little girls will enjoy it. My daughter isnt one to sit through a show longer than 30 mins (if im lucky!!) but she will watch this from beginning to end!!

Veggietales - hysterically funny as usual!.......2007-04-14

You want my honest opinion? THIS MOVIE IS AWESOME!!! Even at [..], I still love VeggieTales - and its much more intelligent humor than other videos. Though the action is, well, about as action-filled as vegetables can get, the jokes are funny, the lesson is well-thought out, the story line is excellent, and the animation continues to get better and better! The first two Larryboy videos, were, well, kind of funny in parts (more the first than the second), but they weren't as well made - though they were very good at the time. This newest LarryBoy release, however, does tribute to the incredibly creative people at BigIdea! At any rate, I'm a big VeggieTales fan, who has nearly the whole collection, and, I must say, VeggieTales just keeps getting better and better, especially with this release. One of the best parts about all the VT videos is the fact that they're geared towards the whole family - in fact, some of the jokes are more geared towards teens and adults! However, the videos don't go over the kids' heads - what kid wouldn't love the beautifully done animation, the slapstick humor, or the great music - for that matter, what adult wouldn't?
My only complaint about the video is that the action scene at the end falls a little short of what they were aiming for - it was a little short, and the "urgency" of the situation escaped me. However, the animation is so well done in everything else (especially LarryBoy's much more realistically animated plungers - way cooler!), that one can't help but love this funny, engaging, well-done video!

. . . look at the subject of TEMPTATION from the perspective of Bumblyburg and everyone's favorite superhero LARRY BOY!!!

Larry Boy (previously seen in Larry Boy and the Fib from Outer Space and Larry Boy and the Rumor Weed) is back again, struggling to save his town (and himself) from the Bad Apple of temptation.

This is a story that young and old can relate to, and is an exciting addition to the VeggieTales canon. The Bad Apple is a delightfully conceived villain, and the moral of the story can be understood by all.

I hope that the creators of VeggieTales continue to make more "Larry Boy" adventures. My kids (ages 2-16) love 'em -- and so do I!

My 4 year old son's hero is this cucumber in a costume and he just can't get enough of him. The video is well done, the music is great and so is the story line. It's great to have such a positive series for little boys.

Larryboy and the Bad Apple is one of the new films released by Big Idea and I have to say it's very well done. They have all the right pieces in there for a good guy, bad guy story and the best part about this is Larryboy actually gets to do battle with the bad apple. If you like to watch vegetables crack jokes and fight villains, then this is the film for you!

If anything good can be said to have come out of the 2005 Hurricane Katrina catastrophe, it's From the Big Apple to the Big Easy, an ideal union of musicians, songs, and a worthy cause that results in one of the best benefit concerts in years. The music at this Madison Square Garden extravaganza (another show took place that same September night at Radio City Music Hall) on behalf of the people of New Orleans and the battered Gulf Coast isn't just good, it's right. What we witness over the course of some three hours is more than the usual passel of big stars showing up to do the right thing and drum up some cash and support for the unfortunate and the dispossessed; some of these folks actually are the dispossessed, and the majority have an authentic connection to the Crescent City. The Neville Brothers, Allen Toussaint, the Meters, Irma Thomas, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Clarence "Frogman" Henry: these are performers who are steeped in the astonishingly rich tradition of the place that gave us Louis Armstrong, Fats Domino, and so many others who helped weave the dense fabric of American music. And while the show takes a little while to hit its stride, by the time it climaxes with "When the Saints Go Marching In" you'll be partying like a drunken reveler during Mardi Gras. Highlights are almost too numerous to list here, but they'd have to include Thomas' "Time is on My Side" (the early Rolling Stones hit) and the Dixie Cups' "Iko Iko," both included in a segment devoted to what actress Jessica Lange calls "the bad girls of the Big Easy"; guitarist Ry Cooder's "Hello Josephine," part of a blues set with Buckwheat Zydeco and Lenny Kravitz; John Fogerty, who breathes rocking new life into "Born on the Bayou" and "Proud Mary"; the Dirty Dozen's rollicking "St. James Infirmary," one of New Orleans' signature songs; and a gorgeous "Bridge Over Troubled Water," which finds Art Garfunkel (reunited with Paul Simon for the occasion) sharing the lead with the angel-voiced Aaron Neville. And that's to say nothing of Bill Clinton, who helped spearhead relief efforts with George H. W. Bush and whose appearance receives the most prolonged ovation of the night. The concert raised a reported $9 million, and 100% of net proceeds from the sale of this two-DVD set will continue to raise money and awareness for Katrina victims. Radio City???.......2006-11-22

I was uptown at the Radio City "sister" concert. Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Dave Matthews, Bill Clinton, and others, made appearances at both shows. However, we were also blessed by Tom Waits, Trey Anastasio, Galactic, and others. Frankly, I am SHOCKED that there is not at least a CD from the Radio City concert. I mean, c'mon, its all for a good cause. Wouldn't a Radio City CD or DVD also raise some money to help??

If music is important to you, any type of music, then the city of New Orleans - its music, its history, and its culture - must also be important to you. New Orleans has served as home base for virtually every type of music ever created in the United States of America, and the cultural history/diversity of this city is both unprecedented and unmatched. 2005 was a year most New Orleanians would rather forget, but the devastation left behind by Katrina makes that impossible. A half million homes were destroyed by one storm, and the majority of them were inside the New Orleans city limit. The storm, and most especially its aftermath, is a part of history that should never, ever be forgotten. The way our government failed the city, from infrastructure, to local politics, to federal programs and support, has been a travesty of monumental proportions. All that remains is how our country's citizenry responds. For our own sake and the sake of our own culture as a unified, Democratic nation, we must support New Orleans and the entire gulf coast as it takes on the Herculean task of rebuilding itself.
"From the Big Apple to the Big Easy - The Concert for New Orleans" is one of the most painless and relevant ways that you can show some support. My wife (who was born, raised, and lived in New Orleans for nearly four decades) watched this DVD with me, and commented, "This is the kind of stuff that will go down in history." I believe she is right about that. Figuratively, if not literally, we all lived though this, and how we react defines who we are. In the aftermath of Katrina, did you play a part? Maybe you wanted to, but with so much governmental ineptitude, didn't know where to turn, or who to trust. Perhaps the easiest way to cut directly to the heart of the matter would be to purchase this DVD. It's entertaining, it's informative, and 100% of the proceeds benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
This two-DVD concert set has many highlights, and here is just a short list of a few truly exceptional performances; Seeing Elvis Costello sing "Yes We Can Can" with Allen Toussaint and orchestral backing. Watching Cyril Neville rock the house with a definitive version of "Big Chief," a New Orleans classic. Hearing Irma Thomas rip through "Time Is On My Side" with enough vengeance, power and resolve to claim it back from the Rolling Stones. Watching Cyndi Lauper and Allen Toussaint duet on "I Know." Seeing Elton John tear through "Levon" as if he were performing in a Gospel church. Staring slack-jawed while Ry Cooder, Buckwheat Zydeco and Lenny Kravitz tear through "Hello Josephine." The list goes on and on. If you're a Jimmy Buffett fan, then you must own this. Even Simon and Garfunkel pull together for a few numbers.
Despite everything, you can bet your last dollar that the city of New Orleans is coming back strong. The people living along America's Gulf Coast have suffered in ways that most of us can barely imagine - Imagine a world where Clarence `Frogman' Henry's "Ain't Got No Home" actually sounds poignant. Their resilience will get them through, but your support is essential, so buy "From the Big Apple to the Big Easy." It makes a great holiday gift, too. In my opinion, no DVD's can be absolutely perfect, but this is not far away from beeing a fiver! Fantastic performances for a good case, and I can't get away from talking warmly about Aaron Neville's performance. Absolutely great! And the nostalgism in the whole concert absolutely exists. You won't regret buying this one!

Great Concert, Great Cause.......2006-08-30

I was at this event also, and this two-DVD set wonderfully captures the excitement of the night.

In particular, I'm delighted to hear the intricacies of the brass bands playing, which were somewhat lost in the din at the Garden that night.

Other highlights for me include, yes, the great John Fogerty, although his voice deserts him on "Born on the Bayou"; the Dixie Cups doing "Iko"; Clarence "Frogman" Henry; Irma Thomas singing the original "Time Is on My Side"; Elton John doing "Levon"; Simon & Garfunkel doing "Mrs. Robinson", "Homeward Bound", and especially "Bridge Over Troubled Water" with the incredible Aaron Neville assisting; the Meters doing "Pocky Way"; and again Aaron Neville signing the most exquisite version of "Amazing Grace" I've ever heard.

As another reviewer said, you can't go wrong buying this set, as all proceeds are supposed to go to Katrina victims.

I am, however, deducting one star because of the "Buffet surfeit" here. Really -- with Fogerty, Elton, and S&G in the house, six songs by this one-hit wonder is about five songs too much, and it was a problem at the concert as well, although there were more than enough parrotheads present that night to lap it up.

Mixed bag of the bug-eyed wonder.......2005-05-11

This is advertised as a double feature of films with Mantan Moreland, he of bulging eyes who was a major African-American comedian of the 30s and 40s, best remembered as "Birmingham brown" in the Charlie Chan films.

However, he has very little to do in "Spirit of Youth"(1938). The only reason anyone would want to see that now is historical. It's about the great boxer Joe Louis (as himself) and how he gets sidetracked in his boxing career by a pretty girl and a gangster. Mantan is his buddy and comedy relief. Mighty rough to watch today. A very poorly preserved print, cornball and predictable story, and some really stilted acting except for Mantan and the great Clarence Muse as Joe's manager. For a better film with Muse, see "Broken Strings" (1940).

The bug eyed wonder is put to better use in "Lucky Ghost" (1941). Here, Mantan is teamed with his sometime stage partner Flournoy Miller (who also served as a counsultant and writer of the Amos and Andy show). This is a pretty amusing, likeable, and witty tale about Mantan and Miller winning a house in a crap game that turns out to be haunted. Yes, it's stereotyped by modern standards and Mantan's wild-eyed dice shooting shtick from this film has been used in documentaries (and Spike Lee's "bamboozled") as an example of demeaning stereotypes of blacks in films of that time, but in its context it's really amusing.

Mantan and Miller were old vaudevillians who play off each other quite well (Miller appeared in the legendary black broadway show "Shuffle Along" in 1922 and Mantan and Louis Jordan performed together in Huntington's Minstrel Show in the South around the same time). Florence O'Brien is quite appealing as the femme fatale. Interestingly, there's some humor here that would not be typically allowed in mainstream films of that itme. One such scene has Mantan's pop eyes (deservedly) admiring the ample, precious rump of Miss O'Brien and in another scene, the camera focuses on the cleavage of a waitress.

In either case, "Lucky Ghost" is fascinating for fans of early black comedy films and entertaining for all but the most racially sensitive viewers. While Mantan Moreland's manstream work in mostly white films such as the Frankie Darro and Charlie Chan films are plentiful on dvd, it would be interesting to see more of his work with Miller in Black films such as "Mr. Washington Goes To Town," "Mantan Messes Up," and "Professor Creeps" among others.
