This irresistible Oscar winner from writer-director Leo McCarey (An Affair to Remember) stars Bing Crosby as a low-key, crooning priest who joins the parish of a no-nonsense but sweet old Irish man of the cloth (Barry Fitzgerald). While Bing turns local toughs into a choir, the elder priest worries over the church building fund and whether he'll get a chance to see his old mother back in Ireland before she dies. One would have to have a heart of stone not to be won over by this charmer, with a lovely ending guaranteed to make you bawl for a week. --Tom Keogh

Description

Winner of seven Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director, the unforgettable classic Going My Way lights up the screen as it warms the heart. Best Actor winner Bing Crosby shines as Father O'Malley, a young priest new to an established but financially flailing parish. When his philosophies conflict with those of curmudgeonly Father Fitzgibbon (Best Supporting Actor winner Barry Fitzgerald), the result is a timeless story of patience, compromise and - just maybe - understanding. Featuring an all-new digitally remastered picture and filled with mesmerizing music including the Academy Award-winning song "Swinging on a Star," Going My Way exemplifies the silver screen at its golden best! "****! Hard to resist!" (Leonard Maltin)

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars A good science-fiction film.......2007-05-22

Of course it's not a science film, though it is totally fiction. So much that all characters are unreal, impossible. Everybody is nice and candid (yes, even the old gossipy lady, why, there's no malice in her). The action flows like on clouds, at such an unpreoccupied pace that is so relaxing. This is the most remarkable thing about it: its lingering scenes and no hurry pace. Yes, as some one mentioned already, the chess scene is a good example of this style. Seinfeld fans might want to check if this is finally their ideal film: a film about nothing, where nothing happens... it's wonderful. But things do happen, but no one cares because it's mostly the feeling of being part in a dream that remains with you.

The story is simple enough (but so are Spielberg's -I mean, not like Antonioni, for example-), there are 2 Catholic priests, one old and one young. The bishop thinks that the old one (Barry Fitzgerald) needs to leave his place to Bing Crosby, who is much more "progressive" (in those times it didn't have the bad connotation it has now). But the main reason really is that the church is owing too much money to the bank; so, perhaps, a more "progressive" person (in the sense of one who cares more for the finances than others not so "progressive") might save the church (hopefully not by losing any soul). But this is not the story, at least in the surface. It's a nice and make-you-feel-good-by-going-to-church kind of movie. Nice to watch, especially at Christmas time.

5 out of 5 stars going my way.......2007-05-08

this movie was a great alternative to ww 2 movies when i saw it as a boy.
its still a great movie and a good dvd. it has the elements that the church had at one time at the parish level. a closely knit congregation
woven by leaders called priests, not by someone who goes by his given name socially, and treats a parishioner as his equal not his spiritual leader. the same can be said about the bells of Saint Mary's.

5 out of 5 stars Classic Movie Fan.......2007-04-05

This is one of my favorite all-time movies! This version is a brand new re-release (2007). Bing Crosby is outstanding and so is the music. A very touching story about a young Catholic Priest that is given the task of taking over a church from an older Priest that has been at the church for 45 years. This movie is a must buy for everyone!

5 out of 5 stars One For the Ages.......2007-01-12

Some movies are simply beyond criticism. Despite having been written off in recent years by many mainstream critics - with much repeated, off-base allegations of over-sentimentality - this is one of them. It belongs in the pantheon of truly great films. The cynicism of the world we live in today no doubt prevents countless viewers (and critics) from looking beneath the placid surface of "Going My Way", but it's definitely worth the effort.

Part of this reluctance to delve may be due to the film's pastoral (no pun intended) ambience and relaxed pace, which could have inspired the producers of the Andy Griffith Show a few years later (check out the checker game scene). It takes its time, telling its story on its own terms, and this simply doesn't sit well with the majority of modern multi-taskers who've been fed a steady diet of breakneck action orgies, sophomoric sex comedies, and formulaic, artificial romantic comedies. But if you give it a chance and let it work its charms it will eventually win you over. To borrow a line from the film, it will "grow on you." Maybe not in the first viewing, maybe not even in the first few years...but eventually.

Its charms worked instantly on audiences in need of hope, inspiration, and a chuckle or two during the Second World War, making it a huge box office hit in 1944. It even won over critics of the day: James Agee stated that "Going My Way" "points the way to the great films which will be possible when Hollywood becomes aware of the richness and delight of human character for its own sake." It earned seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and a Best Actor Oscar for Bing Crosby (as Father Chuck O'Malley), who was starting his run as the #1 box office star for a record five consecutive years.

Not quite a comedy, not quite a drama, this slice-of-life piece gently sets an example of all generations helping one another, ultimately working together as one extended family. While only a couple of scenes take place at Christmastime, the whole film is basically an enactment of how one person can make a difference by helping his neighbor - one of the reasons for the first Christmas. That helpful, caring attitude is infectious to the point that disparate members of an urban neighborhood eventually come together as a community. The twist is in Father O'Malley's appealingly relaxed methods, which appear unorthodox to the staid, older, by-the-book (small "b") Father Fitzgibbon, providing the conflict of the main plotline.

Fitzgibbon (Barry Fitzgerald, Best Supporting Actor Oscar winner) has been the pastor of St. Dominic's Parish for forty-five years, and as the neighborhood around him has changed, his old school ways have become less effective. Gangs of unsupervised boys roam the streets getting into trouble (a real-life consequence of fathers fighting overseas and mothers working in war production plants during WWII), and the church is deeply in debt and about to be foreclosed on. The financial state of the church reflects the spiritually bankrupt community around it, and the physical structure itself will ultimately undergo a literal baptism by fire in order to be born again. In the meantime, young Father O'Malley is sent by the bishop to put things right, basically being assigned to take over for Fitzgibbon without letting the old man know it.

After assuming he's no longer needed, and having left in despair (only to be summarily returned by the local beat cop), the contrite Fitzgibbon eventually comes to understand and embrace O'Malley and his methods, and puts complete faith in the younger man. It all comes together in a delightfully subdued, justly celebrated scene in which the two men bond over a "wee drop of the creature", as Bing endearingly intones a couple of choruses of "Too-Ra-Loo-Ra-Loo-Ral" while sitting at the convalescing Fitzgibbon's bedside (!). When they came up with the term "screen chemistry" they must have had this scene in mind.

Sooner or later, nearly everyone in the film gives of themselves: young Ted Haines, the son of the banker who's foreclosing on the church, leaves his father's line of work to volunteer for military service; an opera star (Rise Stevens) auditions a Father O'Malley-penned song for a music publisher, the royalties of which it is hoped will raise badly needed funds for St. Dominic's; the members of a street gang provide their (previously unrealized) singing talents for the (also previously unrealized) church choir; even the greedy banker (Gene Lockhart) forgives the church its mortgage. All the giving is sparked by the efforts and example of O'Malley, whose ultimate gift is saved for a no-dry-eye-in-the-house ending, just before he leaves for another parish he's been called on to save.

Sentimental? Certainly. But every iota of moisture in every teardrop is earned, and one doesn't feel foolish blubbering like a fool.

That's partly due to the effortlessly smooth, confident persona Crosby projects in an immaculate performance, which is the perfect counterweight to the story's inherent sentiment. Bing's acting has often been dismissed as that of someone merely playing himself (perpetuated by the self-effacing Crosby), and his Oscar win has been attributed to the fact that much of the crop of `40s actors was away in the service (which was also maintained by Bing). But just watch him - he carries the movie, despite sharing scenes with a couple of the best scene-stealers in the business, Frank McHugh and especially Abbey Theatre alum Fitzgerald. Crosby's acting style appears modern in an era of now-antiquated theatrics. We look across the years at him and he seems familiar, contemporary.

He handles the role of a priest convincingly - a daunting task for the best of actors in any era - and almost casually, without the slightest hint of stiffness or self-consciousness. There is no trace of the sanctimoniuosness that frequently crept into Spencer Tracy's performances in the "Boys Town" films, and Pat O'Brien's in "Angels With Dirty Faces." Crosby's priest comes across as likeable guy, yet one who's just tough enough to deal with whatever situation is at hand - without having to use his fists. Perhaps the greatest tribute to his achievement is that young men in the 1940s and `50s actually joined the priesthood because of their having been inspired by the Father O'Malley of "Going My Way" and its sequel, "The Bells of St. Mary's".

"Going My Way's" Oscar winning writer-director Leo McCarey probably summed up his film best when he stated his storytelling philosophy: "I love when people laugh. I love when they cry, I like a story to say something, and I hope the audience feels happier leaving the theatre than when it came in." From where I'm sitting, "Going My Way" succeeds on all counts. If it doesn't for you, give it a chance. It just may grow on you.

3 out of 5 stars A Happy View of Life.......2007-01-07

Saint Dominic's parish needs a new furnace, and is behind on its mortgage. The banker explains the business to his son, and why churches are poor risks. Father Charles O'Malley meets pastor Father Fitzgibbons under conditions that are not ideal, but humorous. "There is joy in giving, especially if its something you don't want." Father O'Malley came from East St. Louis; I wonder what it was like then? He is to become the man in charge to try to fix the parish problems. We see that their parishioners are also poor. Some boys are known to the police for getting into trouble. Father O'Malley tries to advise a teenage girl to stay at home, however humble it is. Some of the humor is dated. O'Malley works with the young boys to keep them off the street and out of trouble. [No mention of their home life, but you can read between the lines.] Fitzgibbons meets with the bishop, and learns what is planned for St. Dominic's.

The film shows a double-Decker bus. [I wonder when they stopped using them?] An old friend meets "Chuck" and we get a few minutes of an opera. Then Mrs. Quint reports on a neighbor, and Father O'Malley visits to check things out. Which way is she going? The film turns serous again when the banker visits the apartment to find his son. The younger generation seems so different today! Then the father learns why the son quit his job. Father O'Malley has written a song, and they try to promote it to the music industry. But this song does not meet their current needs. Another humorous song has commercial merit. [No one went broke by underestimating the public.] The collection brings in enough money to pay off the parish debts. All seems well. Who said "schmaltz" dozen't sell?

Later we see the priests playing golf. Father Fitzgibbons plans a long-delayed trip back home. But a disaster in the form of a church fire changes everything! More news brings financial aid, but Father O'Malley will be transferred to a new parish. And so the film ends with a happy ending, and a surprise for Father Fitzgibbons. The people in this film seem to have an incredible amount of luck for that time. There is a serious question in this story: which way are you going?

5 out of 5 stars memories.......2007-05-31

I grew up with these Christmas stories year after year. I now have children who can enjoy them too. Many of these shows are not on like it used to be. It is also great having them in one set.

4 out of 5 stars THESE ARE CLASSICS AND SHOULD BE TREATED BETTER THAN THIS!.......2007-03-08

This review would have 5 stars, but for the lack of care for these treasured classics. Especially Rudolph! Come on! Watching this is a yearly ritual for cryin' out loud! The prints are not that bad,but they are dirty and should have been cleaned up. It is a good collection, but there are a number of other Rankin & Bass classics yet to be released to DVD. Get on the ball and restore all of these old friends and put them out in a complete box set. You'll sell millions of these every year! for years to come!

4 out of 5 stars Love the Christmas TV classics.......2007-01-19

Most of the animated classic Christmas TV shows are included (except the California Raisin). Overall good selection, but unfortunately the DVD case uses a cheaper more fragile plastic that was shattered during shipping.

4 out of 5 stars Christmas Classic in the Making.......2007-02-20

This comedy is as gentle as a cloud, but has much more substance; mistaken identity, quirky characters, a bit of mayhem, and cute kids. This is a movie that can be enjoyed by a wide range of ages. It was great to see Native Americans portrayed in such positive and clever ways. Keep an eye out for the runaway mouse. He and the vegan chef provide some of the biggest laughts in this delightful comedy.

5 out of 5 stars Christmas In The Clouds.......2007-01-18

A fun, feel-good movie, great for watching during the Christmas season.

5 out of 5 stars Delightful feel-good Christmas diversion!.......2007-01-16

Beautiful scenery (Robert Redford's Utah property) and a charming group of Native American actors make this a "different" Christmas story for the whole family.

5 out of 5 stars All Sun Dance Awards Deserved!.......2007-01-10

Finally, a movie that isn't too much of anything--except for just completely enjoyable! What this movie isn't:

Not too serious
Not too funny
Not too sexual
Not too hard to follow
Not too many special effects
Not too long
No hidden messages
No politcal agenda

...you get the idea. If you want to sit back and watch a harmless holiday movie (not really what I would call a Christmas Classic, the holiday was more of a back drop and wasn't leaned on in any way for the story), and just be entertained without all the hub-bub then this is your movie! The charaters are so easy to understand and follow and care about and the story moves along at a perfectly steady pace. I never broke my spleen laughing but was happily amused throught the picture, which to me is a much greater feat for a movie!!! Not sure what to compare this too, it really has an original feel to it and is definitely what I would call a hidden gem as far as movies go...it was SOOOOO nice to have watched a movie and been given that warm fuzzy afterwards. Thank you to the everyone that had anything to do with the production of this movie.

5 out of 5 stars Christmas in the Clouds.......2007-01-10

This is a special comedy romance story. You have to see it more than once to get all the humor that is in it. This movie deserves better recognition than it has gotten.

I highly recommend everyone watching this special video.

Calling this set 'The Definitive Collection' couldn't have been more accurate.

Disc 1 (Mr. Bill Classics), holds all the original shorts seen on SNL, remastered and looking better than ever before. There's the occasional film grain from the original super-8 prints from the 70's, but this looks alot better than the current VHS version. As far as bonus features, there's two games, which when beaten allow you to access two different shorts created by Walter Williams. There's also a photo album, yearbook feature, commentary, and G-rated prints (cutting out all 'gore' and 'animal harming' from the shorts.

Disc 2 (Mr. Bill Does Vegas) contains the Mr. Bill Does Vegas special (currently on DVD, but remastered). There's also Mr. Bill Goes Hollywood, which features all of the Mr. Bill shorts featured on the Fox Family channel. No extras on this one.

Disc 3 (Mr. Bill Christmas Special) contains the Christmas special, and Mr. Bill's 20th Anniversary Special (both currently on VHS). The bonus features contain an interview with Walter Williams, SNL promos, bloopers, unseen shorts, scrapbook, and more I haven't even begun to watch!

The only thing not contained in this set (to the best of my knowledge) is the video Mr. Bill Looks Back. This set nonetheless is the definitive collection, taking 30 years of Mr. Bill, and putting them on 3 small discs. A must buy for fans of SNL and Mr. Bill alike!

Christmas doesn't come any more old-fashioned than in this inspired collection of vintage holiday films from the silent era. Amidst the melodramas (D.W. Griffith's 1909 "A Trap for Santa Claus") and comedies (the "amateur" detective lark "The Adventure of the Wrong Santa Claus") are some delicious Christmas treats. The 1925 "Santa Claus" combines magical images of Santa's workshop elves with thrilling documentary footage of icy Alaskan landscapes and herds of wild arctic creatures, and the 1910 "A Christmas Carol" condenses the Dickens classic into 10 minutes by layering all the ghosts and memories into one brief but visually imaginative scene. The delightful "A Winter Straw Ride" (1906) transforms into a snowball free-for-all to celebrate the giddy antics of adults reverting to childhood innocence. Al Kryszak's new, melancholy score for strings and harp is often lovely but out of place amidst the cheer and holiday celebration of the films. --Sean Axmaker

    Description

A collection of enchanting silent films, "A Christmas Past" offers a nostalgic peek into the Yuletide pleasures of the early 1900s. Evoking the Victorian charm of Currier and Ives prints, these picturesque comedies and tender dramas were produced as cinematic Christmas cards offered to moviegoers of the silent film era. Includes D.W. Griffith's "A Trap For Santa" (1909, 16 min.); the Edison Studio's "A Winter Straw Ride" (1906, 7 min.), "A Christmas Accident" (1912, 15 min.), "The Adventures of the Wrong Santa Claus" (1914, 14 min.), "Santa Claus Vs. Cupid" (1915, 16 min.), "A Christmas Carol" (1910, 10 min.), and "The Night Before Christmas (1905, 9 min.); plus "A Holiday Pageant At Home" (1901, 5 min.) and "Santa Claus" (1925, 29 min.). Features an original score by Al Kryszak.

4 out of 5 stars A lovely Christmas valentine from another era.......2006-12-15

Kino Video's lovely A CHRISTMAS PAST is for a limited audience who knows the names of Edwin S. Porter, Thomas Edison as a filmmaker, and D.W. Griffith when he was still doing short subjects. Over 121 minutes, it presents a nostalgic Currier and Ives-like Christmas in silent tales ranging from 1901 to 1925. The prints are flawless by any standards, and the music score includes violins and Christmas bells.

A HOLIDAY PAGEANT AT HOME (1901) runs 5 minutes and has kids presenting a little skit for Mom and Dad.

A WINTER STRAW RIDE (1906) should be called "A Winter Sleigh Ride". It runs 7 minutes and was directed by Edwin S. Porter for the Edison Corp.

A TRAP FOR SANTA (1909) is a 16 minute D. W. Griffith short about two kids trying to trap Santa in the middle of the night to see if he really exists. It has poignancy because a destitute father runs away from home and Mom plays Santa. But then Dad returns, and there are two Santas!

A CHRISTMAS ACCIDENT (1912) is a 15 minute Edison Corporation short, directed by Bannister Merwin. I think this is the one with wealthy and poor families living side by side, and the wealthy family doing something nice for the poor family at Christmas when a roast is delivered to the wealthy house.

THE ADVENTURES OF THE WRONG SANTA CLAUS (1914) has a father and a burglar fighting it out over who is the real Santa for a family. The burglar steals all the presents, and Dad goes after him in costume to have a happy ending. This is also a 14 minute one reeler from Edison.

THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS (1905) is the first version of Clement Moore's famous story. It runs 7 minutes and was directed for Edison Corp. by Edwin S. Porter.

SANTA CLAUS VS. CUPID (1915) was written for the Edison Corp. by Alan Crosland (1927's THE JAZZ SINGER). This Christmas romance runs 16 minutes.

SANTA CLAUS (1925), ostensibly filmed with the real Santa at the real North Pole, focuses on Christmas Eve and delivering presents. But two children ask Santa what he and Mrs. Claus do the rest of the year. At 29 minutes, this is the longest film here and the most recent.

Finally, we have a 10 minute version of A CHRISTMAS CAROL from 1910 and the Edison Film Manufacturing Corporation. It is fun to see an attempt to tell the story in one reel.

A CHRISTMAS PAST will not be for everyone. But audiences excited by what I say about the contents should find it the ultimate Christmas Eve or Night treat. This is a long ago Christmas and quite exquisite.

4 out of 5 stars Love the films, love the music--.......2006-12-04

As has been said in other reviews, this DVD (which I original saw on TCM as well) is a strange, moving, sometimes boring, but generally wonderful time-trip back to another era. (I still don't really get "Santa Claus vs. Cupid," but, hey, it doesn't bother me...)

I am one who thinks the music is haunting, strange--and perfect for this collection. It does add a touch melancholy to the procedings, but it works for me. Some of the most beloved Christmas songs are melancholy--look at "Have yourself a merry little Christmas" and "White Christmas"--looking back in memory, expecially of Christmases past, can definately involve a bit of that.

5 out of 5 stars Great Piece of Americana.......2003-12-28

This is one of those rare oppurtunities to see some obscure images from a time long, long ago. With the exception of perhaps one episode, most of the players are unknown people who gave their interpretation of a Christmas story. I felt like I was looking through a time machine, and the feeling of great nostalgia came over me. These are Christmas stories from the past presented by people who are long gone, but how much we have in common! I read some reviews that blast the soundtrack. I thought it was great and very appropriate. I especially enjoyed the use of Christmas bells, and think that the score helps add the feeling of nostalgia to this beautiful presentation. I ignored this title until catching it on TMC. If you enjoy silent films, this title is a must.

3 out of 5 stars Patience, patience, patience..........2003-12-27

I caught this on TCM before Christmas and taped it to first review before I considered getting the DVD. Be warned, this takes a lot of concentration and patience to view: rather boring in many parts, the sound track is useless (better, like a previous reviewer states, to play your own Christmas music, instrumental of course, while viewing), gets pretty interesting towards the end, though. Keep in mind that this was the days of filming when it was extremely raw and young, or young and raw, whatever, so "Christmas Past" is almost 100 years old, in part, and is quite different from the early color Christmas cartoons and silent video.

I'd buy this only if you keep an open mind (and eyes for that matter since it can lull you into a winter's slumber) and view it as a period piece. Silents can be great with the right music since the music adds or subtracts from the "feel" of the video as it does today.

I sure wish they'd put out "Cleopatra" (the 1912 version) silent which has a sound track (new) that is totally phenomenal (new music by Chantal Krevinzuk and Raine Maida). If you get TCM on your cable/satellite, checkout some of the silents on Sunday nights. You'll be surprised at how wonderful many of them actually are...especially the first "Cleopatra" with Helen Gardner. Exquisite! I was mesmerized.

3 out of 5 stars Naughty and Nice.......2003-12-22

Interesting movies from almost a century ago. But be warned. The muscial score leaves much to be desired. I prefer to turn off the sound and watch this DVD without sound, or I choose to play my own Christmas music selections in the background.

    Nice movies. Naughty score!

4 out of 5 stars It was never like this ever again...........2006-11-30

I bought this for my parents for nostalgia's sake and I must say this was charming and enjoyable -- the innocence of the era mirrors what should be the innocence of Christmas. Episodes:
    1. LIBERACE Christmas show. A very YOUNG Liberace tickles the ivories to Christmas classics. Sweet.
    2. OZZIE AND HARRIET - Christmas Tree Lot.
    3. LOVE THAT BOB Grandpa's Christmas Visit. Bob Cummings show - never had heard of it. It's a little slow but Christmas is the time when we are allowed to watch television devoid of modern irony.
    4. MEET CORLISS ARCHER
Christmas. Another obscure family sitcom that was fun to watch.
    5. WHERE'S RAYMOND Christmas Spirit. Roy Bolger's show dances his way through niece's imagined visit to a toy store. Sincere and happy.
    6. DATE WITH THE ANGELS Christmas Show. Another obscure show - funny, sweet, warmhearted.

In short, watch these to transport yourself to a time devoid of irony-cladden, skeptical, materialistic families you see today. Yes it's hokey and sentimental but it's fun.

4 out of 5 stars Great bargain, but a mixed bag........2007-01-24

This is a great bargain. Don't get me wrong! I would buy this again if it got lost. Can't beat the price for 4 good Christmas flicks.
Although I do wish they had included a newer edition of HOME ALONE in here. This one is the older letterboxed edition that is not enhanced for widescreen TVs. If your DVD player/TV/projector has the picture zoom option like mine, you can escape the problem with the black frame all around the picture on a widescreen TV, but the resolution/picture quality is still poor, of course.
JINGLE ALL THE WAY was the same thing, despite the deceptive cover which stated that the movie on the DVD was included in both Full Frame and Anamorphic Widescreen versions. Not so! The same crippled leterboxed frame.
No complaints about either the MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET, which is presented here in beautiful Anamorphic Widescreen, or A CHRISTMAS CAROL, which, as a made for TV movie, is presented in Full Frame, maintaining the original aspect ratio.
All in all, a great deal for the money.

5 out of 5 stars Nice box set!.......2007-01-12

I bought this box set for my friend's children as a Christmas present. I really just wanted to send "Home Alone," but it came with all the other films too, which was a bonus.

My friend and her family moved from California to Massachussets last year. The kids (age 4 and 6) were very entertained when they saw Governor Arnold acting in the Christmas movie "Jingle All the Way." It was a big hit and reminded them of home in California. Plus it entertained the parents too. An unexpected bonus, and a great story to tell, don't you think?

"Home Alone" reminded them of their visit to see us in Chicago a year and a half ago. That was my intent in sending that movie to them.

"Miracle on 34th Street" reminded them of when we all went to New York City last spring when we went to visit their Massachussets home.

Although my review is unusual to say the least, it was a very meaningful Christmas present to the kids since the box set highlighted all of the places we have visited together over the past year. I am sure that is not what you intended when you put the set together, but it was a really great gift. Thank you!

4 out of 5 stars Christmas Classic Box set.......2007-01-10

Fabulous value! The home alone movie was a great movie to be included in this box set along with the classics!

    4 out of 5 stars A Real Christmas Keepsake.......2007-01-10

This set is a real sleeper that can fit into every home. The iconic fame of "Home Alone" among kids is no secret, but at least one other movie makes the set worth buying. "Miracle on 34th Street", the only remake IMHO ever done better than the original, is a beautiful tapestry of uplifting story, touching script, great cast, and magnificent cinematography. It's my favorite contemporary Christmas movie. "Christmas Carol" with George C. Scott was well made, but it's hard to supplant the sentimental older favorites with Reginald Owen and Allistair Sim. "Jingle All the Way" with Arnold Schwarzenegger had a great message, but seemed to lack holiday atmosphere. Not bad, though, as a filler item. Overall, a set well worth the money.
