The first of the two movies is the better one. It's about a young woman doing a report about Genital Herpes,just kidding,the reports about sex. She has no sexual experience to speak of so she does some research,and by research i mean kinky sex acts. She goes from place to place finding nice people that help tutor her. Its very sexy. The second movie is about the same thing pretty much only with computers. It isn't nearly as good as the first but it's still ok. Both movies are well made and star hot women.What more could you want?

Nice to watch with a partner.......2005-07-24

This is the type of soft adult movie that is nice to watch with a date. It doesn't get too explicit and is a nice video to stimulate a romantic evening. The models are very attractive and the scenes are tastfully done.
however, when watching alone, I find it frustrating that the erotic scenes are relatively short. Just when you think a scene starts to "climax", it reverts back to another scene with dialogue.

A great softcore double feature........2005-05-12

This is a must have release from Playboy. "Personals: College Girl Seeking" and "Personals 2: Casual Sex.com" are two of the best softcore movies ever made, and both of them are available in one set at a great price.

In Personals 1, Renee Rea is trying to complete a paper on sexual behavior for a class she is in at college. To get the first hand point of view she feels the paper is missing, she starts responding to ads in the personals section of the newspaper. This puts her in the middle of several scorching hot sex scenes.

There are nine sex scenes. Six are boy girl, one is boy/girl/girl, one is girl/girl, and one is an orgy scene which had about three guys and five girls. Renee also has three strip scenes and there is a strip scene involving two other girls. Renee is very prominently featured in this movie. She is in three of the boy/girl scenes, the three-way, and she is the main attraction during the orgy where she first has sex with one of the guys, then has a lesbian three-way with two of the girls, then finishes by having sex with another one of the guys. There are about five or six other women in the movie. All are attractive and include Tera Patrick, Sasha Rochelle, and Brandy Davis.

In Personals 2, Beverly Lynne is trying to complete an article for the magazine that she works on. Guess what it's about and guess what she decides to do? This time though, the personal ads are on the internet instead of in the newspaper.

There are ten sex scenes. Nine are boy/girl and one is girl/girl. Beverly is in four of the boy/girl scenes. In addition to Beverly, there are six other women which includes Holly Hollywood, Ava Lake, and Inari Vachs. All the women are attractive and give great performances during their sex scenes. The lesbian scene between Ava and Inari is incredibly hot.

Both of these movies really hit it out of the park. The heat never lets up. The sex scenes start right at the opening credits and continue steadily right up until the closing credits. And the sex is great. You can always hear the sounds of the actors and actresses over the background music, all scenes go until completion, and the sex is as explicit as you can get away with in softcore.

This is very recommended.

An excellent softcore movie!.......2003-10-10

This is one of the best softcore movies that Playboy/Image have ever released. Kelly Cauthen (the director) did it right.

The story is light and fun and of no importance anyway. Let's get to the stuff that matters. Nine girl/boy scenes, one girl/girl scene. All the scenes are excellent. There is a good variety of positions, and some really well composed shots. Music doesn't drown out everything so you can still hear the actors, and each scene comes to an excellent conclusion.

There are two scenes that I have to rave about. The one with Holly Hollywood and the girl/girl scene with Ava Lake and Inari Vachs. Both Holly and Inari are veterans of true adult videos. so stuff that other actresses would be a little nervous about doing, even if it is simulated, is a cakewalk for them. This really comes through in their performances.

Very recommended.

Watch out for the Horny Devil!.......2003-03-13

Production values for softcore erotica have increased in recent years. This movie shows it. The plot is about a reporter who dives into the realm of computer personal ads as part of an assignment. She goes from one sexual adventure to another as she listens to the sexual adventures of others. However, after the recent breakup from her boyfriend and a string of meaningless flings, she feels emotionally empty. Can she find true love?

Anyway, people typically don't watch films like these for plots, but I will say the plot is good. The romantic ending is there which is a big bonus. You can watch it without feeling too dirty.

The scenes themselves are geared towards couples. Nine of ten scenes are straight male-to-female scenes. One is a female-to-female scene. There are six males and seven females that grace these scenes. They look good for the most part. Most of the women look natural.

All in all, a good film. Not the best for this genre, but still good.

Up close and personal.......2002-09-30

Erotic movies seem to be getting a little spicier these days, following the lead of Surrender Cinema. Obviously, the plot only serves to set up numerous encounters that deliver big time in the flesh department. But this movie takes it a step farther with some pretty explicit, near Penthouse style, nudity. This movie has more than a few "pause" button moments. If you're thinking pink, get this DVD.

Too real, too good, not what you think it is.......2005-07-12

I played the personals a lot in in my own life, but I did find a woman that I have happily shared my life that way. I expected this film to be the usual light comedy about the personals with a happy romantic ending.

However, this movie is about so much more than that. This movie is about loneliness, separation, the lack of love and the fear it brings into our personal life. This movie is about how in the modern alienated society we are separated in little cubicles blind to each other, screaming for love inside, mute, proper, and cold on the outside.

What comes through best in the many inappropriate people our heroine meets is not their silliness or inappropriateness, but the pain in their wanting. What comes through is how in observing their complete unconcern for our heroine, who she is, what she wants, what she enjoys, our heroine feels numbed, frozen deserted in a desert of boredom. They are cut off from real love, real affection, and real inimacy, just as we believe our heroine is also desperately cut off from her feelings and needs, having left her job, spending her time meeting countless men from the ads in a tea house.

Even the one man who is a friend of hers, not a lover, a married doctor with a child, opens up to her that he is not really who she thinks he is in the most intimate of ways.

All along we know our heroine has a sickness in the heart that we don't exactly know about that she reveals in telephone messages she leaves every morning, for whom we don't know, and why she gets no returns we learn at the end.

In a way, the process here is like mourning, getting the hubris of loneliness, the sadness of so many useless men out of her system to highlight the pain and separation our heroine and the rest of us face hen we seek love.

There is more that unfolds that I can tell. We must leave you to see this movie.

The acting here is super, especially if you like good character acting. I found one of the most touching of her suitors to be the school teacher in his 50s maybe because I am a college teacher in my fifties. He doesn't know what to say, is so unused to a social occaision that he brings his own soda to the tea house, and proposes marriage without asking a word from our heroine. Even after she tells him how inappropriate this is, without even mentioning he is 20 years older than she is, he wants he to make arrangements to meet his parents in th South of China. The pain on his face, the insistent sincerity, the way you feel all of him is engaged, even though he is completely lost, really hit me.

He says all of that, but you can tell by his face how desperately he wants that, how crazily he wants her love, how empty his life has been of affection.

After writing this review, I think I better see this movie again tonight.

Humor and heartache .......2004-08-26

God, I love this movie! At last, a Taiwanese film with heart and depth, and complexity to really sink one's teeth into beneath a simple and unassuming premise.

Du Jiazheng ("Rene" Liu Joying) is a thirty-something woman, an attractive and successful ophthalmologist, who advertises in the newspaper, looking for a husband. We go with her (under the assumed name of "Miss Wu") on a series of dates with a hilarious assortment of bizarre characters. It would be hard to pick a single standout suitor, but my favorite line has to be "Besides drinking, you must have other hobbies?" Well, it turns out he does, but I'm sure Du wishes she hadn't asked. It is a joy to watch Liu's face as she reacts to her dates' revelations and ploys with bemused and intelligent aplomb.

In between these disastrous meetings, Du makes phone calls in which she recounts them to an answering machine, or writes in a diary. She also runs into a teacher she had had in college, Professor Luo, vigorous and charismatic in red turban-like hat and pants, black suspenders and a white T-shirt. She unburdens herself, and receives sage advice and comfort, a scene that is presented in brief interludes between the dates.

Initially, it seems that "The Personals" is going to be a whimsical comedy about modern dating in Taipei, not much different from typical Hollywood cinema-by-numbers. But gradually we gather something darker is happening in Du's life, a hint here and there in her conversation with the prospects, then in the phone messages and journal entries, as it becomes apparent they're addressed to an estranged lover.

On my first run through this film, it was the weird dates that dominated, with their inventive oddness and humor. But as soon as it was over, I was compelled to rewind and start again, and this time I found myself paying attention to what had before seemed interstitial material, even fast forwarding through the dates that earlier been the focus.

I won't give away the resolution, except to say that it caught me by surprise on several levels. But beyond the overt ending, and feeding off it, the film ultimately seems to be about how with unthinking cruelty we use others' love, loneliness and desperation to assuage our own.

The cinematography is not in-your-face, but is subtly creative. The dates are filmed from a variety of angles which adds visual interest to the otherwise straight talking faces, and many scenes seem to take a cue from the Japanese director Ozu, with his careful framing. One in particular -- when Du tells the answering machine "I feel like a voyeur [listening to her suitors bare their lives]", the camera is peering in at her, voyeuristically, through a window.

This film won't be for everyone. If you need explosions and car chases to keep your interest, if a movie about relations has to involve thrashing naked bodies or shouting and screaming, if suspense for you is only generated by dark shapes springing from the shadows ... well, give it a pass. But if you like quirky indie flicks that explore emotions and relationships, that put script and acting above special effects and fancy camera work, go ahead and take a chance. Although this film may haunt you, unlike a bad blind date it can only stalk you in your mind. No "Fatal Attraction" scenarios, the worst is that you'll be forced to buy a copy.

Production notes: The subtitles are easily readable, even on the VHS copy I viewed. Crisp white in a good font, with a thin black halo, they stand out against any background yet are not obtrusive. The music was well chosen to the mood, including what I assume is a Chinese cover of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". Unfortunately, none of the characters except Du are specifically credited (though the translation of the credits is sparse); I would be curious to know who played Professor Luo, for one.

A must see.......2003-10-09

The movie has more to it than the laughs. It makes you wonder the true meanings of life. A great movie. Rene Liu truly is one of the best actresses around.

Funny and cleverly written.......2003-10-02

This movie is interesting. From the start, you would be wondering why a pretty doctor like Wu (played by Rene Liu) would want to place a personal ad. As the movie progresses, you start to learn about her life and background besides all the crazy blind dates she has (many funny scenes on the blind dates). Then comes the ending when the true reasons unfold. Rene Liu performed very well as an actress in this movie. It's a good movie to see.

I thought film was very well acted out. The cast was chosen well with the exception of Stacy Dash. She did a good job but should have been used more to show her skills. I wonder if a Soundtrak of various music in movie was ever put on CD? Does anyone know? The film is well worth the cost of purchase.

One of the better date movies of all-time.......2004-10-30

This movie truly shows how versatile Malik Yoba really is. We've seen him as a bad ass athlete in Cool Runnings, a street smart cop in New York Undercover, and a righteous business man in Ride. In this movie, we see him as in debt and struggling writer with an idea for an article that sounds creative yet manipulative. He sees quite a line-up of dates for his article. Among them a woman who wants to be impregnated by him without having to father the baby, a woman who works as a clown for birthday parties, a Star Trek buff, and a sexy latin siren who wants to settle down with him. The dating aspect of the movie is so so for the exception of the latin woman Veronica, who is played perfectly by the over-looked Delilah Cotto. She adds pizazz to the movie and I enjoyed every one of her scenes. And Malik Yoba's screen presence also carries the movie. They are my two favorite characters and they do more than enough to offset the dullness of the other women that Malik Yoba dates. Stacey Dash's character was somewhat of a wasted role but that aspect is also offset by once again my two favorite characters in this movie. Overall you're in for a fun time watching this movie. You won't be disappointed one bit!

Malik Yoba plays Keith, a struggling journalist that comes up with a story idea. He uses the personal ads to get 30 dates in 30 days. He discovers all sorts of women until he discovers a girl (Stacey Dash) that sees right through him. What turns out to be a story idea becomes a quest to understand woman and their issues of dating.
If you have seen How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days or Never Been Kissed, this movie si sort of a hybrid of those movies. You pretty much see every type of woman out there and then some. A nice movie without the excessive sexual content.

Great Indy Film!.......2002-01-18

I had the pleasure of seeing this film in the summer of 2000 in Chicago as part of the "Go See Black Films" Film Fest and was thoroughly entertained. This is a fun movie about dating in the millennium. Everyone that I've let borrow my DVD version of Peronals has enjoyed it and purchased a copy for themselves. As a fan of Indy films, especially Black Indy Films, I cannot recommend Personals enough. It's funny, has a great looking cast, fun characters, and a message that everyone can relate to. This is a great date movie.
