The Naked Brothers Band is a kid rock band that performs surprisingly catchy original songs written by 9-year-old Nat Wolff and performed by Nat, his 6-year-old brother Alex, and young friends Cole Hawkins, Allie DiMeco, Joshua Kaye, Thomas Batuello, and David Levi. Contrary to its name, the band performs fully clothed. The Naked Brothers Band--The Movie is a mockumentary comedy that blends the story of Nat and Alex's sudden and sometimes difficult road to stardom with a satirical take on the popular rockumentary genre with its requisite focus on the stormy, sordid details of the lives of famous musicians. Produced by Nat and Alex's mother Polly Draper (thirtysomething) and jazz musician father Michael Wolff (The Arsenio Hall Show"), the movie follows Nat, Alex, and the other band members through home footage of the band's early preschool days (when they did indeed perform mostly naked and simply banged away on whatever was handy to make "music") to more professional footage of current day concerts which highlight a remarkably poised group of young musicians performing increasingly popular songs like "Crazy Car" and "Got No Mojo." Interview footage makes up the bulk of the program and is immensely satirical, featuring exaggerated scenes that detail Nat's uneasy habit of speaking to Rosalina (Allie DiMeco) with a fake accent to cover his attraction to her, Alex's development of a lemon-lime soda addiction that lands him in a rehabilitation Soda-holics at Sea program, and Alex's tendency toward inappropriate "potty-mouth" remarks. Obviously, guest stars like Arsenio Hall, Cyndi Lauper, and Uma Thurman found the parallels to the extreme behavior of famous adult personalities humorous, but what speaks to some as a funny spoof on the Hollywood rockumentary genre is so over-done that other viewers will find it distasteful, offensive, and/or inappropriate for children. (Ages 9 to 13) --Tami Horiuchi
Product Description
The Naked Brothers Band is a mockumentary that follows a world-famous kids' rock band as they struggle with superstardom, love, friendship, a band break up, and adolescence. It stars two real-life brothers, Nat and Alex Wolff, and is inspired by the real-life band they started in pre-school. The cameras follow Nat and Alex through their concerts, their rehearsals, and their private lives as they deal with the growing pains of having friends, having a band and having your friends in your band.

UTTERLY HORRIBLE MOVIE!.......2007-06-26
Don't let the reviews fool you, because this movie is absolutely horrible. The music is horrible, the acting is horrible. Why buy something so horrible? Why not just save your money for an iPod, or put it in your bank account. The only reason you should buy this movie is either so that you can watch it and get a good laugh with your friends at how horrible it is, or you could buy it just to smash it. Also, Natt and Alex Wolff are ugly, and they are not funny at all. I bet they pay people to cheer for their horrible music and laugh at their corny jokes. You'd have to pay me a thousand $s to do that!!!!
*DON'T BUY THIS MOVIE!!!*
Well, I warned you, and if you buy it and hate it, don't blame me. And if this review changed your mind about getting it, that's great!
the naked brothers band.......2007-06-08
The dvd was in excellent condition and my daughter absolutely loves the movie...since I received it, she's watch it 10 times.
Cute and fluffy.......2007-05-30
Bought this at request of my eight year old daughter. The movie captures the TV debut of this totally engineered for TV band. It is humorous and appropriate for a pre-teen or older child, no mindless gore and violence/gratuitious sex and profanity. Very bubblegum, not that there's anything wrong with that. The kids are cute, and there are a few nice bits of visual interest with time lapsed action sequences, some music and slapstick routines. Nothing terribly surprising in this light fare.
ADORABLE!!.......2007-05-23
My 6 and 4 year old daughters absolutely adore Nat & Alex Wolff, and I must admit that I do too! They are both so stinking cute, I could squeeze them silly ;) I find myself watching the show/movie when my kiddos have left the room at times. Very clean, fun entertainment for parents and kids to watch together. I love the interaction between Nat and Rosalina, Alex & Jesse and the sheer goofiness of Michael Wolff and that accordian ;) So much fun. These kids are all TRULY talented at acting and music alike. Great songs that keep your toes tapping...very infectious. The impromptu nature of the "mockumentary" film is captivating. Order it today!! Only snafu is that the bonus CD is *not* included as previously offered with the DVD. You have to request a copy of the 5 song CD from Paramount. But it ships via UPS quickly and my kids have just about worn a hole in it from repeated use :) We all LOVE it!
Great kids movie.......2007-05-14
My grandson loves the show and the music. Wasn't happy with the marketing of the bonus CD, but finally received it....he loves it.

Bolstered by an Oscar®-caliber performance by Philip Seymour Hoffman in the title role, Capote ranked highly among the best films of 2005. Written by actor/screenwriter Dan Futterman and based on selected chapters from the biography by Gerald Clarke, this mercilessly perceptive drama shows how Truman Capote brought about his own self-destruction in the course of writing In Cold Blood, the "nonfiction novel" that was immediately acclaimed as a literary milestone. After learning of brutal killings in rural Holcomb, Kansas, in November 1959, Capote gained the confidence of captured killers Perry Smith (Clifton Collins, Jr.) and Dick Hickock (Mark Pellegrino) in an effort to tell their story, but he ultimately sacrificed his soul in the process of writing his greatest book. Hoffman transcends mere mimicry to create an utterly authentic, psychologically tormented portrait of an insincere artist who was not above lying and manipulation to get what he needed. Bennett Miller's intimate direction focuses on the consequences of Capote's literary ambition, tempered by an equally fine performance by Catherine Keener as Harper Lee, Capote's friend and the author of To Kill a Mockingbird, who served as Capote's quiet voice of conscience. Spanning the seven-year period between the Kansas murders and the publication of In Cold Blood in 1966, Capote reveals the many faces of a writer who grew too close to his subjects, losing his moral compass as they were fitted with a hangman's noose. --Jeff Shannon
Description
In November, 1959, the shocking murder of a smalltown Kansas family captures the imagination of Truman Capote (Philip Seymour Hoffman), famed author of Breakfast at Tiffany's. With his childhood friend Harper Lee (Catherine Keener), writer of the soon-to-be published To Kill a Mockingbird, Capote sets out to investigate, winning over the locals despite his flamboyant appearance and style. When he forms a bond with the killers and their execution date nears, the writing of "In Cold Blood," a book that will change the course of American literature, takes a drastic toll on Capote, changing him in ways he never imagined. Stellar performances from Hoffman and Keener, as well as Academy Award® winner Chris Cooper (Adaptation) are why critics are calling Capote a "must-see movie."
Customer Reviews:
if really war so then Capote was a man.......2007-06-15
The film Capote is for me a masterpeice. I don't waste my time reviewing a film that has not earned five stars. Why should I? The only time I would do that is when a film with no redeeming qualities at all was number one at the box office and that is rare,if ever an occasion. First of all the acting of the man playing Truman Capote, Phillip Seymore Hoffman is some of the best art of acting ever produced. Stella Adler is having an orgasm in her grave, I hope. Secondly the casting was brilliant right down to the school girls in Danny Birk's school. The only thing I think might have been misleading is that Truman Capote visited this town in Kansas two weeks after the murders but that is irrelevant. I've had the pleasure to drive through Kansas and that Capote even picked this place to write a book about says alot about his eye for the reality that was America in 1959. After he wrote that book he was nothing other than a standard guest on the Merv Griffin Show and nothing more. But I think people were jealous of him because he wasn't affraid to portray America as it really was and still is. He died a lonely, alcoholic, drug addicted homosexual. Those were his own words. But he died showing us a picture of ourselves that few of his intelligence and talent have the courage to do. And I would bet that sometime in the future such circumstances will happen again and when they do there will be a man who gives his physical and mental self to tell the story for the rest of us to learn something. I hope so. Kevin Bodenhammer Berlin Germany
A Movie about the Making of a Book.......2007-06-13
This film is based on a small period of time in the life of American writer Truman Capote. He is a well respected (yet full of himself) writer who becomes fascinated with two men who murder a Kansas farm family of four in cold blood. The effeminate Capote is both entranced and attracted by one of the killers, and he is able to relate to the man's difficult childhood.
But Capote uses these men to sell a sensational story. He lies repeatedly to the confined criminals about his progress with the book (he does not represent the men in writing as sympathetically as they may have hoped), and his friend (the venerable writer of "To Kill a Mockingbird" Nelle Harper Lee) rebukes him for caring more about the project and the attention he receives than the prisoners.
To be honest, I found the film to be pretty boring, and Capote's accent hard to decipher. I give it 3 stars because the acting is superb, but the storyline is less than mesmerizing.
More tears are shed for answered prayers than unanswered ones.......2007-06-09
Mid 1950s and Truman Capote was a well known writer in high society New York following the success of his novella Breakfast at Tiffany's. After that, as is well documented, a sighting of a small article in the New York times about a sinister, rural murder in a remote Kansas town led to bizzarre, captivating and emotionally tortuous events that created a masterpiece and ultimately broke the writer. This superlative movie tells that story.
Capote, a man with a fragile ego and a gregarious desire to be entertaining, and be loved, travels to Kansas with his erstwhile friend Harper Lee (soon to have her own literary success with 'To Kill a Mockingbird). A measure of his vanity occurs in a scene on the train when he pays a porter to effusively praise his work in front of Harper. Initially, the locals are suspicious of this small, reedy voiced celebrity author, who claims to want to write an investigative report on the crime: 'it's from Bergadorf' Capote explains when he sees a policeman staring at his lavish scarf. However he ingratiates himself, first with the head investigator, and then the two murderers themselves - especially Perry Smith, who Capote develops a quasi-erotic bond with and discovers he shares a number of traits with his own background: 'I sometimes feel like we grew up in the same house, he went out the back door, while I went out the front,' Capote explains when asked if he has fallen in love with Perry Smith. Describing Smith as a 'goldmine', Capote arranges for a lawyer to defer their sentence so he can visit the men in jail, getting them to relinquish notebooks and reveal their story, piecemeal, so Capote can write what he forsees will be the book of the decade - a completely new genre, the non-fiction novel. Over the next months Capote divides his time between two completely different sides of America: the dark netherworld of lonely Kansas, where the men languish in a grim jail, and the bright lights of Manhattan, where his readings of early drafts of his book - titled 'In Cold Blood' are greeted with standing ovations from the literati. Capote develops a great bond and affinity with Smith, but knows that to publish his masterpiece, he must be executed. Masterfully, and cynically, like the smiler with the knife, he gets Smith to declare his version of the events of the November 1966 murder, while at the same time denying that the title really is 'In Cold Blood' - a title which neatly encapsulates Capote's dilemma, as well as the killers' motivations. As the film develops, the ego and talent - both genius and monstrous - of Capote is revealed. He dangles the promise of further legal help to Smith so he can continue writing the story, but knows all along that this will be ultimately relinquished. He is so wrapped up in his own issues that he cannot bring himself to congratulate Harper Lee on the launch of Mockingbird, and when he faces the harnessed killers about to be executed, he still sees himself as centre stage: 'I can't imagine what you men must think of me' - 'You haven't been foremost in my mind recently' replies Richard Hickcock, Smith's accomplice. Capote pulls it off - the masterpiece gets written, but the price was paid. As the end credits confirm, he was finished - as a writer, as a man. He never completed another book and died of alcohol related ilnesses in 1984.
The supplementary documentary on the DVD reveals Capote to be one of most fascinating American writers of the 20th Century - that rarity, a great artist and a full scale personality. On his deathbed, he declared there is only one TC, there will never be anyone like him again. Indeed. As 'Capote' shows, probably no other writer last century has pushed the limits of morality so far to get what they needed for their art.
Watch "Infamous" instead........2007-06-09
After reading "In Cold Blood" I decided to watch both of the recent films about Truman Capote, beginning with "Infamous" and then watching "Capote". My recommendation to others is to only watch "Infamous". Although it covers very grim subject matter, this movie is very watchable and enjoyable, as opposed to "Capote" which is two hours of artsy misery. Toby Jones really becomes Truman Capote in a way that Phillip Hoffman does not even touch. Jones' Truman draws the viewer in and charms, while Hoffman's performance in "Capote" alienates and repulses to the point that it seems that this actor secretly hates Truman Capote. Also, "Infamous" does a much better job at explaining the story to thise who have not read the book, and giving depth to the other characters than "Capote". Watching "Infamous", the dark parts of the story are thrown into sharper relief by the light and humorous parts, and it cuts precisely to the heart of the matter. Whereas "Capote" just bludgeons the viewer over the head with gritty green lighting, long staring pauses and unrelieved gloom.
True to Tru.......2007-05-17
"Capote"
Outstanding Acting
Amos Lassen and Cinema Pride
There are few words that can fully describe Philip Seymour Hoffman's performance in "Capote". He had the man down pat; from the walk, the talk, the look and within this he gave the performance of a lifetime. He is the bon vivant who is indulged by friends and lovers; he was connected to the rich and the famous. Suddenly he becomes penetrating as he probes the human condition. He the uses his cynicism to get what he wants and exhibits sincere emotion which he used for his purposes. He is cruel when he feels indignation for the sociopath that murdered the Clutter family and then became his muse. He is ambitious with the goal to do something great and the cost is high. With that, he is still a sympathetic character.
Capote, himself, was a character, and Hoffman develops that for us to see. Opposite Hoffman is Catherine Keener as Nelle (Harper Lee) and she is also perfect. She is warm and caring, perceptive and honest.
Together they are the ideal team. With acting like this, the plot almost seems unnecessary but it too is almost flawless. The cinematography evokes the past in its measured beauty and consistent, confident editing.
Watching "Capote" you are sure that you are watching a precious moment of film history. It is a movie that keeps getting better and better with subsequent viewings.
Those of us that were fortunate to have met Capote sat in awe of Hoffman's performance--it was as if Tru never died. But the movie contains a great deal of truth as it shows the tragedy of a man who discarded his own decency in order to write one of the great American works of literature. As he achieves greatness, he is also damned. Capote' contempt for the death penalty for a man who was abominable stabs at us and shows us that inhumanity is not always physically violent.
"Capote" has great assets--the best performance by an American actor in a very long time and some of the most intelligent dialog in recent years. However the movie is misleading. You would think by the title that it is about the life of the author. It is, rather, about the great novel that he wrote and his transformation from wunderkind and jet-setter to a trend-setting talented writer.
The film itself contains no excitement and the courtroom scenes tend to be quite boring but it does show great thought and intelligence with acting superiority.
The movie opens with a ghastly recreation of the crime that caused Capote to write "In Cold Blood". When the scene shifts to New York City and we see Hoffman for the first time as Capote we feel like we are seeing a ghost. As we watch Hoffman, Capote becomes larger than life. In his flamboyance, he is amazing but as he transitions into an investigative author and we go with him, it is if we are now part of each other.
The Clutter murders were and still are extremely unsettling as is the movie. Hoffman has something of which to be very proud and we have a great American movie.

Rose McGowan vamps it up mercilessly as the "Satan in heels," a teenage-bitch queen whose birthday prank gone terminally wrong leaves her best friend dead, choked to death on a jawbreaker the size of a fist. Rebecca Gayheart, with her sparkling eyes and a smile that could melt an iceberg, is the good girl at heart who becomes a social pariah when she drops out of the group, trading her plunging necklines for librarian-lite sweaters and long skirts. Jawbreaker wants nothing less than to be the Heathers of its generation, but only intermittently hits the mark, such as when McGowan turns a mousy nobody into the next big thing, a slutty tease whose craving for attention soon challenges McGowan's supremacy. "She's evil," someone finally realizes, "and she's only in high school!" That's unfortunately the best Darren Stein's film gets. For all its catty talk and surface glamour, it's a flat, broadly directed satire that never lives up to its evocative title. Features an appearance by teen rock punks the Donnas as the prom band. --Sean Axmaker

jawbreaker.......2007-03-29
Jawbreakeri thought that this was one of the worst movies i have ever seen i actually purchased this movie without ever seeing it once i viewed it i threw it in the garbage
Delightfully Bad Flick, and That's a Good Thing!.......2007-02-06
Most might look at this film and see it as a total bomb, but I see it as sinfully delightful in it's badness! It has a style and attitude all it's own within the overbearing genre aimed at teenage/20-somethings.
Quick Synopsis: The coolest girls in school, ruled by Courtney (the Queen Bee) decide to play a harmless prank on one of their girlfriends, Liz, for her birthday. Sadly, the prank turned tragic when it resulted in Liz's death -- an occurence that was accidentally witnessed by the nerdiest girl in school, Fern Mayo. Now Courtney and company must strike a deal with Fern (they give her a makeover and help her become beautiful and popular...like them) in order to keep her quiet.
This film has a dark comedy quality to it, much like the movie Heathers (THX Version) did. The characters have an odd and quirky manner of speaking, and it makes the dialogue somewhat broken and fascinating at the same time. Rose McGowan shines as the 'Satan-in-heels' Courtney Shayne. The wardrobe and filming sequences are captivating (as usual with teen flicks, there are plenty of slow motion hot chicks strutting down the school hallways). The music fits perfectly with each scene, and compliments the edgy attitude of the movie.
Still...one can't help but notice that this movie is certainly not Oscar material. It's appeal is to a very general, young (I'd say about 15-25 age range) female audience. Men might be entertained briefly by it's gorgeous leading ladies in revealing clothing (honesly though, what high schoolers actually dress that way?), but their interest might quickly fade as the thin plot and bizarre story starts to unfold.
I have to say that I love this movie. It's fun and twisted at the same time, and even though it's never going to rank high on many "must see" movie lists, it will always have a place on mine.
Bottom line, watch it and enjoy it for the somewhat unique film it is...even if you end up thinking it was kind of bad.
This is Such a Good Movie.......2006-12-16
I watched this at my friend's house and it was hilarious. Not only were the girls extremely hot, but the story was hilarious.
Courtney in particular was cool. My brother says I'd be her if I was a girl. But, since I'm not, I'll settle with marrying her. I feel bad for Julie though. Her life took a bad turn, but so does Courtney's at the end. I like the ending of the movie, it was good.
Even Marcy turns away from Courtney in the end. Too bad for Courtney. When she's talking to Vylette at one point on the phone, she says "Courtney Shane is priority number 1". That was hilarious.
No clue who that band is at the prom, but their music is cool.
All in all, good movie. Don't watch if you're offended by sex, cussing, smoking, drinking, or teenage infatuation, though. For everyone else, GET IT!
Smart, Sassy, and Wicked!.......2006-05-27
Smart AND sassy, this movie is a classic! The plot is wicked, and the actresses definitely "bring it". I'm 32 and I LOVE this movie. I originally caught the last half on a New Year's Eve on T.V. many years ago and several years later I was STILL curious about the rest of the story. So I finally bought it on Amazon and watched it last night with my husband. This movie DELIVERS! It is NOT a typical main-stream movie and even has a bit of an Indie-feel to it. The story and the characters will draw you in. I love "The Donnas" live performance at the end. I definitely recommend picking up this film. ~Nicole
Evil Candy.......2006-05-15
Jawbreaker is the movie to watch if you want to see popular girls and their evil ways. It is hard candy's transition from sweet to killer. A good movie to watch if you feel like hating someone.

The FIRM Cardio Dance Slim Down DVD DESCRIPTION Dance Workouts have never been hotter and now The FIRM delivers a fat-burning, cardio workout featuring FIRM master instructor Allie DelRio Pointer.
Customer Reviews:
A Workout That Surprised me.......2007-05-19
I have to admit, I was disappointed in this workout at first. It's not your typical FIRM fare. It's very dancey and badly cued. But the dancey fun of it probalby why I kept at it. I find myself reaching for this workout when I'm so sick of my fanny lifter/transfimer that I could toss it across the room. If for no other reason than to kick the boredome factor, this workout belongs on my shake it up/do something different shelf alongside of my "so-hokey-you-gotta-love-them" Yoga Booty Ballet DVD's.
Funny Workout.......2007-04-22
I love the Firm and Allie is my favorite instructor. As most people have said the video consist of a warm-up and three dance segments: hip-hop-, salsa and disco. It is not the traditional Firm carido and strength training. There are no weights or toning at all. Each segment is done in an add-on fashion. Each time you go through the routine you add on another step.
I didn't expect to learn how to dance from this video. I expected a cardio workout with a dance-flavor and that's what this is. I think it's a nice short (40 minute) workout that is great on days when I don't do the strength training. I thought it was a lot of fun and didn't find it boring at all.
If you are looking for strength training or a more traditional Firm video, this is not it. If you are looking for a light to moderate cardio workout and a nice change of pace, I think you'll enjoy it.
Fun workout.......2007-03-31
This is a fun workout to throw in and do on those days you can't make it to the gym or get out for a vigorous walk. It's a good 45 min workout, not too challenging.
Fun and easy! IMO: You get out of it what you put into it .......2007-03-20
First i have to say that I'm a little confused at some of the reviews of this DVD. I bought it about 3-4 weeks ago and find i really look forward to it on the days when i don't elliptical/treadclimber train or weight-train! I admitt--if one doesn't put any extra effort into it, it might seem simple and a little slow, but I wear my heart monitor and find that if i put some extra "umph!" into these moves--and let my arms move and my usual dance-"flava" thru, my heart rate stays right up there in my fat-burning zone. I love her simple cues and even enjoy the non-club music. I have many, many dance DVD's--and have been disapointed by MOST of them. This one i enjoy enough to recommend to anybody who likes to dance. Tho i have to admitt--like other reviewers, i probably wouldn't use any of these moves out at the club. They're a little antiquated and kind of cheesy at times, but still fun! Compared to the obnoxious cueing on Cardio-Abs and some other hip-hop dance/workout DVD's tho-- Allie's dance DVD has become one of my favorites!
awesome workout.......2007-03-12
I love this dvd. It's so much fun; the time just flies by. And it's a really great workout. It keeps your heart rate going the entire workout. People who like to dance or are tired of the step aerobics craze (or their knees are)will definitely enjoy this dvd. The instructor is peppy and cheerful.

Customer Reviews:
American View of British TV-Disturbing War Ethics.......2007-06-10
Story-wise..it's the Peninsular Wars, the British and their Spanish allies are slowly pushing Napoleon back into France. Richard Sharpe is leading a specialist group of sharpshooters, his 'chosen men', thru a series of engagements from episode to episode. Sharpe, himself, has been promoted from the enlisted ranks to the officier corp. Despite the fact that he is an internationally famous war hero, has royal patronage, and is on a name basis with Wellington he must battle discrimination and political jealousy from an aristocratic officier corp. Good so far-nice plot possibilities.
But on the whole the story plots are rather lame, not well thought out, with lots of unresolved loose ends, and plenty of military inaccuracies.I don't how many times Sharpe saved the battle (and the episode) by running head-long into direct cannon fire, taking the hill or fort.....right. In every episode he gets wounded and in too many he still feverishly rises from his bed to lead a running charge (and save the day).In every episode he fights a British officier and fights poorly, takes another wound, then at the last second shows his true martial prowess, defeating his 'brother' officier. On the postive side, I liked his team of 'chosen men'. If you remember the old 'Combat' TV series, these guys are of the same cut, only British/Irish...regular guys doing what has to be done...solid people.
Personally, I thought the Sharpe series was poor (except the last one in India-that's really good). But once I started watching I had to finish. I was strangely hooked. It is oddest window into British moral war ethics.
The series portrays terrible British war crimes, officier corruption of the worst sort, murder and rape of allies, women and children, looting of allied towns, the assassination of a royal ally by a British officier. It's relentless. Virtually every episode has some sort of criminality.
By far the most common plot theme is not fighting the French, but British officier corruption. Enlisted-officier relations are portrayed as dismally awful. Even sargeants and corporals (the classic buffer for bad officiers) are portrayed as criminally brutal and corrupt. The series writers show no reason for loyality to God and King.
The puzzling aspect is, all this criminality is really not part of the main plot. It appears to be there as a side bar to what's playing in the plot. Ex: the British evict the French from a Spanish town, you'd think to liberate their friends and allies. But the Brits enter this town with the intent of rape and plunder.A British sargeant even makes quite a statement before hand about looking forward to raping as many Spanish women as possible. The writers use this pillaging as a backdrop for Sharpe to have a final showdown with a brutal British officier. Every episode my jaw dropped, you have to see for yourself.
That is the truly interesting aspect of the series, the plot moves along and all of a sudden there's a war crime or brutality and then back to plot...it's all entertainment. Can you imagine the HBO series on the American WWII unit- Band of Brothers- portrayed with the rape of French women and wanton officier corruption. Americans would have tarred and feathered HBO. I suppose Brits are different than Americans.
The Sharpe series is definitly worth watching, it's real different than US TV. And with what goes on within, well, you be the judge.
Awful.......2007-03-30
I have enjoyed the Sharpe novels and have read them twice, along with most everything else Bernard Cornwell has written. Therefore I spent over $300 for the DVDs, relying on the opinions offered to Amazon.
I have played three of them and have been very dissapointed. The productions have bastardised the novels. The acting becomes laborious, the plots rediculous, the low-cost production obvious, and most of all boring. I cannot stand to look at the rest of the serious and have not done so.
I will gladly ship the lot off to anyone who will pay the shipping from South Africa. The pewter letter opener broke with the first letter I attempted to open and was trashed, as the whole set should be.
Sharpe's Complete Collection.......2007-03-09
I bought this for my husband for his birthday. He already had all these on VHS but he said that these are edited better and the color and sound are great. If you enjoy historical fiction and you enjoy war movies/shows, you will enjoy these DVDs!
It's a wonderful series!.......2007-02-18
I bought the whole set for my husband several years ago (the price has gone WAY up since then!), and he loved it. We had watched it in three different series (maybe on Masterpiece Theatre?), and we loved it. So when the DVD set came out it made a perfect birthday present (and we watched it all over again)! If you like the historical/period shows (and you know who you are) then you will love this one too. I'd try to get a better price if I were you--$300+ is a bit pricy! Maybe eBay? But the set is great--you won't be disappointed!
Great for history buffs and action fans.......2007-01-12
I was first introduced to the Sharpe's series via BBC America while house sitting this past summer. OK, originally I wanted to see it because Sean Bean was in it and I am a history buff. After the first episode that I saw which was Sharpe's Gold I bought the complete set. Then I invited my 15 year old neice over to watch it on the big screen. Well, we watched from the beginning only 1 or 2 episodes a night for the rest of the summer just in time to see the August showing of Sharpe's Challenge on BBC America. Now I've purchased it as well. Her reaction was surprisingly enthusiastic. I would have expected that from her mom, but I really was pleasently surprised that she loved it as much as I did. So I would like to say that even teens would like this. (Not only did she like the series but it turned her on to history a bit more). Have fun with this!

A smartly written and wonderfully acted movie about happiness and fate. 13 Conversations About One Thing takes four characters (a lawyer who hits a housecleaner with his car, then flees the scene; the housecleaner herself; a science professor who leaves his wife; and an insurance claims adjuster who's deeply envious of a coworker who seems irrepressibly happy) and blends their stories into a delicate but potent mix. The characters cross paths at various points, but more often the events reverberate off each other in funny, surprising, or sorrowful ways. For all its cleverness, 13 Conversations never loses sight of the characters' humanity. The remarkable performances (from Matthew McConaughey, Clea DuVall, Amy Irving, John Turturro, and especially Alan Arkin) are riveting. On top of that, this movie, for all its quiet and talkative nature, is visually stunning, each shot a carefully composed portrait of a state of mind. --Bret Fetzer
Customer Reviews:
Not satisfying.......2007-03-29
I just don't quite "get" this film, nor do I see where all the positive reviews came from. The film is comprised of vignettes focused on four basic groups of characters: lawyers, office workers, cleaning ladies, and college professor. But almost nothing exciting or remarkable happens in this film, nothing that really made me wonder what would happen next or how this film would turn out. We basically start the movie with John Turturro's story of being a late to home husband with a bruise on his eye that came from some encounter a few days before then we're brisked off to McConaughey's piece about a positive man who runs into some bad luck following a sermon he gives to a man at the bar about him not ever being unhappy. The rest of the stories interweave into each other before it's all done, which is an interesting concept, but it's been done much better in other films.
Watch it!.......2007-03-17
I loved this movie!!, The acting was brilliant. Alan Arkin and Clea Duvall fit perfectly into the role they played. The movie has kept me thinking about it, day after day, realizing different ways all the characters are alike. If you enjoy seeing tons of insight into other peoples lives you will appreciate this movie.
True Art.......2007-02-24
This review is very late in coming, but I wanted to see other movies "with interweaving" plot lines like "Babel" which I recently purchased also. I've had "13 Conversations" for a long time, and watched it a couple of times since. This movie is one that you will never tire of watching because its subject, the pursuit and meaning of happiness, is timeless like a good 1940s Rossellini movie. The acting is smart, crackling and too real. The writing by Jennifer Sprecher is outstanding. Alan Arkin comes across as the curmudgeonly one always on the outside looking in, but who in the end is just broken after giving up on life and hope. The others, from his vantage point are fools for looking and hoping for happiness, but what is life without it? Nothing. This movie will make you think and think and think. And think some more. Watch it with someone that you love and pop a bottle of wine after or during to perhaps facilitate discussion. We will look back at this movie in 50 years to get a view of life in these times and what people did to try to find ultimate happiness. It is as perfect a movie as movies can be, and will, for me, define the art of filmmaking. Bravo.
bad luck or good providence?.......2007-01-24
Set in New York city, this film narrates the every day aspirations and heart aches of four people: a young, brash prosecutor, an aging middle manager at an insurance company, a physics professor at Columbia, and a young cleaning girl. Director Jill Sprecher walks a thin line and teases out the tension between two world views. On the one hand, these characters feel the apparent futility and despair that despite what choices they make, or wish they could make, they really have no control over their lives, and so life feels very random and fickle. Still, as the film has it, the lives of these four characters do in fact intersect, such that a bigger picture of purpose is intimated. Clearly, all the characters in this film long to embrace the notion that there is a larger, benign Purpose directing what appear to be little more than accidental events. In a final scene, even the mere gesture of waving to someone as the subway train pulls away suggests that there is meaning in all we do. Christians will enjoy this film as an excellent commentary on the notion of divine Providence in which a loving God superintends our lives. He is no magician or puppeteer, and all our human choices matter, but we are never beyond the pale of His care or the presence of mystery in all we experience.
Lucky 13.......2007-01-23
Arkin gives a outstanding performance with the rest of the cast not far behind. Story is compelling both moving heart and funny bone.

Brought tears to my parents eyes........2007-04-01
I Bought two copies of this dvd for myself and my parents.
After vewing this dvd we agreed that we should make it a tradition to watch this every christmas eve.
You would be hard pressed to find anything that beats this for quality on the market anywhere.
Can't be beat.......2007-03-13
I love listening to this, but the plot line could have been left out.
Okay DVD.......2007-02-16
This is okay, it's not great, but worse than I expected it to be, basically, a girl walks into an old abandoned theater and sits down by the stage and she goes through all the memories that have stayed. It's without an obvious storyline and is only made for the music.
Good DVD - can't beat seeing them in person.......2007-01-26
The DVD was good and I watched it a few times before the Holiday. Every one else who saw it wanted to know where to buy it.
TSO - Ghost of Christmas Eve.......2007-01-19
Not your typical Christmas music. Mix of pop, soul and rock. I enjoyed it.

Best Firm Workout EVER!.......2007-05-14
This is the absolute BEST workout ever! You must have the Fanny Lifter and Sculpting Stick to do this video - it comes from the Firm Scuplting System 2. I am always looking for more Allie videos - she really is the best! A must have for your workout video collection!
"I LOVE this workout".......2007-03-06
If you are looking for a good cardio workout by THE FIRM, then this is it!! A reviewer commented that this workout doesn't use weights. It is part of a set of 3 dvd's, the other two use weights for sculpting.
The music is very motivating and makes you want to move. My first time working out with it, I was reminded of the great workouts I had received with the original Firm tape with Susan Harris. I was sweating up a storm and finished the workout with a smile of my face because I had so much fun too!
I have the fanny lifter but not the sculpting stick although I may purchase it later. I use a broom stick handle instead and very light weights (2lbs).
Great workout and I think you will enjoy it too.
Hard cardio.......2007-02-07
This will give you an excellent workout. It is not like traditional cardio but it is great. you will need the fanny lifter and sculpting stick.
Not enough Strength.......2007-01-27
Too much cardio in this video, and the cardio isn't really challenging. I was hoping there be more work with weights or more strength training.
Not for the advanced.......2007-01-15
I own quite a few Firm workouts; this workout is not for the intermediate or advanced exerciser. There is no physical demand on your heartrate, and little, if no use, of weights. There is no real sense of the compound movement that the Firm is known for. The cuing is insufficient, and use of the sculpting stick can be replaced by the use of weights. If you are looking for a better cardio challenge, pick Super Cardio or Cardio Burn (yes, similar name but different instructor).
