Description

Salva is a kid from a humble neighborhood making a living by begging for money in the subway with his inseparable friend Angel. When begging is not enough, they contemplate stealing. Seeing how well all kinds of prophets and preachers make out on television duping everyone, they decide to do the same. They make up a story about having a healing potion -"Celestial Vermouth"—but an accident lands them in jail. The host of the reality show "Hard Hand", where the audience decides if someone condemned to death will be saved (no one has yet), sees in Salva a chance to improve the ratings. He intends to have Salva, who is innocent, judged and condemned, but the audience likes Salva, frees him and turns him into a hero of the masses.

Sharp, Stylish, Familiar.......2005-07-01

No real surprises in the story here (the tone's rather like Frank Capra's been soaked for too long in bitter orange juice), but extremely well-made. Wonderful production design, crisp editing, nice cinematography, and good comic acting, particularly from Jordi Molla as the bewildered anti-hero at the center of the hurricane. If you're in the mood for satiric jabs at our media-crazed age, laced with wicked anti-clericalism, the picture's worth a look.

Se inventan la historia de que poseen un brebaje con poderes curativos "Vermut celestial". Pero un accidente les lleva a la cárcel. Entonces aparece en escena "Mano Dura", un reality -show donde se decide si personas condenadas a muerte pueden salvarse o no (nunca se salva ninguno).El presentador, agobiado por los problemas de audiencia ve en Salva la posibilidad de levantar el programa, juzgando y condenando a un inocente. Salva (Moll) and his best friend, Angel (Juan Carlos Vellido), are a pair of homeless men who scrape together a living begging in a train station. After the men are implicated in the killing of a priest, Salva and Angel are put behind bars, where they are spotted by the producer of "Harsh Treatment," a reality television show in which the viewing audience is asked to judge if the contestants are innocent or guilty of the crimes of which they are accused. With his long hair and kind eyes, Salva looks a bit like Jesus, and Bigardo (Daniel Gimnez Cacho), the creator of the show, decided to play the resemblance for all it's worth; the home audience not only acquits Salva, but he's given a new job as a TV preacher. Disillusioned, Angel goes back to the gutter, while Salva, who is uncertainly navigating the ladder of success, becomes deeply infatuated with Espe (Candela Pea), Bigardo's significant other.
