Eurotrip views the Old World as a goofy parade of soccer hooligans, horny camera saleswomen, and pawing lechers reeking of cologne. After being dumped by his girlfriend, Scotty (Scott Mechlowicz) discovers that the German e-mail correspondent he thought was a guy is actually a hot girl--so naturally he jets off to Europe to find her, joined by his friends Cooper (Jacob Pitts), Jamie (Travis Wester), and Jenny (Michelle Trachtenburg, trying to leap into sexier roles after her adolescent characters in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Harriet the Spy). Just as naturally, a cavalcade of national stereotypes, wacky mishaps, and mild homophobia follows, but it's all tossed off with reasonable good cheer (and the fight with the robot mime is pretty funny). Featuring cameos by Matt Damon (The Bourne Identity), Jeffrey Tambor (Arrested Development), Kristin Kreuk (Smallville), Lucy Lawless (Xena: Warrior Princess), and Vinnie Jones (Snatch). --Bret Fetzer

Eurotrip.......2007-06-09

Eurotrip (Unrated Widescreen Edition)
This movie is awsome ! It is funny on so mny levels that I can't begin to describe it. It is one of the best High School road trip movies ever made.
Watch it, you won't be sorry.
Good (if not always clean) fun..........2007-04-10
I ordered this movie for my husband. He LOVES it! It's a funny entertaining movie and something you can watch over and over. No big plot - but it's got it's moments. I'm quite sure there is something for every European to be offended by... So keep a sense of humor and enjoy.
Hilarious.......2007-04-05
Just plain fun. Nothing to serious going on in this movie. If you are looking for a great laugh and can tolerate some foul language and nudity then this movie is for you.
Buy this for a good mindless laugh.......2007-03-18
One of the few times the sequel is better than the original (see my review for the significantly weaker Road Trip), this is just a fun movie that still makes me laugh out loud. The actors are great, from Buffy's Michelle Trachtenberg as the "guy who just happens to dress like a girl" to MAtt Damon as a thrash metal rock singer and Lucy Lawless as a dominatrix. The theme song "Scotty Doesn't Know" is so ridiculously catchy that you don't even mind that they play 3 or 4 different versions of it throughout the film. Yes, they do focus on only the most famous cities in Europe (although they do throw in Bratislava as a twist) and play on a lot of familiar stereotypes, they still manage to throw in some pretty funny observations that, having lived in Europe for 3 years, I can attest to their validity. This unrated version is a real kick too, from the deleted scenes (some of them were hinted at in the closing credits, others are just as funny as the scenes they kept) to the "bootleg" version ("we bootlegged the bootlegger!), and the Green Fairy floating around the DVD menus, it's worth the cost of admission.

Helene Hanff (Anne Bancroft) and Frank Doel (Anthony Hopkins) are lifelong friends who never meet in this unique comedy-drama based on a true story. Hanff and Doel are separated by 3,000 miles of ocean and joined by a passion for old books. Their relationship begins when New Yorker Hanff orders a copy ("unabridged, please!") of Pepys's diary. Doel, as polite and soft-spoken as Hanff is loud and overbearing, fields the request from his book shop in London. For the next two decades they correspond without ever actually sitting down for tea and crumpets. Brit director David Jones (Betrayal) does a reasonably good job of goosing a movie about something as uncinematic as letter writing, and the stars have fun chewing scenery on both sides of the Atlantic. The model for this kind of bittersweet relationship is David Lean's Brief Encounter, which, not coincidentally, is glimpsed here when Hanff steps out for a rainy-day matinee. --Glenn Lovell

84 Charing Cross Road.......2007-04-03
The DVD arrived in a timely manner. I haven't watched it yet, but I am sure it is fine as it came new in box with the wrap in place.
book lover.......2007-03-24
This movie is not for everyone. It has no helicopter blowing up anything. Nobody is mad at anyone and seeking revenge. It is a gentle story about a pleasant relationship that develops between a book lover and a book seller. I loved this story. The acting is supurb. Walter
Beautifully Portrayed Story Of The Love Shared By Two Very Opposite People.......2007-03-14
This beautifully understated story about a loving correspondance between two very different people on different continents over a twenty year period could quite possibly not appeal to alot of people in today's audiences so used as they now are to action packed whiz-bang films with little attention paid to detail and characterisation. However this film has always touched me for its simple depiction of the old adage that "opposites do indeed attract". I've admired actress Anne Bancroft since her days in films such as "The Miracle Worker", and of course "The Graduate", however in "84 Charing Cross Road", she is simply unforgettable as the brash New York writer who while seeking out rare volumns of books from a London Secondhand Bookstore unexpectedly begins an amazing correspondence with a softly spoken and very proper English Bookseller that spans over twenty years. This touching story sees the two very different individuals develop an increasing more intimate exchange of letters that end up changing their lives forever. For any movie goer who appreciates fine writing and wonderful understated character development this very unobtrusive little story is bound to touch your heart in so many ways. Long before he became the horrific Hannibal Lecter in "The Silence of the Lambs", Anthony Hopkins I feel gave one of his most quietly rich performances here and despite never meeting his leading lady on screen once in the course of the film, he has a wonderful mismatched chemistry with the very different Anne Bancroft that somehow works and which helps make their relationship so incredibly touching and real.
surprisingly compelling.......2007-03-14
For a film with very little plot, no climax, and minimal character development, I found 84 Charing Cross Road to be surprisingly compelling. I found myself often wondering why I was so interested in how the film would develop, given the absense of what usually are important elements to good film making.
The acting was quite good, especially Hopkins.
A small gem.......2007-02-24
This delightful tale of a 20 year correspondence between a New York writer and a London bookseller made me smile a lot. There is more to it than that, but that's the net result. The movie is better than the book, but by all means read the book first, it's a fast read. The book is the actual correspondence on which the movie is based. Anne Bancroft and Anthony Hopkins are perfectly cast, as is everyone else.

In the Good Old Summertime.......2007-01-13
Cute old fashion movie; based on Little Shop Around the Corder
FALL IN LOVE IN THE GOOD OLD SUMMERTIME.......2007-01-11
I love this movie, I initially purchased simply because Buster Keaton is in it, and of course he is wonderful to see. Two bits of business especially are highlights to me, and both are Buster's material are the very beginning where Judy and Van meet and the violin scene.
But I have just fallen in love with In the Good Old Summertime. I love the art direction, the cast (although I'm not a huge Van Johnson fan and this movie does not make me believe that he was ever leading man material), the songs and of course the little extra touches that Buster was first brought in to advise on before being offered the part of the nephew(which is a much younger man in The Shop Around the Corner). Judy Garland is the star of this movie and I am always astonished and thankful that her insecurities and troubles off screen never seem to show up onscreen. She sings up a storm, I especially like the song she does with the quartet.
If you like movies that you can watch and feel happy afterwards then this is the movie for you.
Like the formula, but not the execution........2006-11-29
As has been noted, this formula has been filmed several times, most recently as "You've Got Mail", with Tom Hanks and Meg"Trout Pout" Ryan. Of the several versions, "In the Good Old Summertime" is my least favorite. The problem I think is that the studio coasted on the Stars charisma, which doesn't quite cut it here.
The chemistry betwixt the two leads never comes to a boil in this movie. There are no real sparks. Van Johnson and Judy Garland remind me of day old donuts, pleasant but stale. And when the leads are boring the rest of the movie can only follow. Judy in particular is disappointing. She looks like she has no neck! I don't know if she was having trouble with pain or something but she looks like a turtle trying to pull it's head into it's shell, all hunched up and everything. I couldn't figure out what Van Johnson was getting so hot about. I would have made a bee line for that cute violin player. And Van wasn't great either. I've always thought of him as a rather generic Hollywood leading man and he doesn't do anything to dispel that image here.
If you're a fan of the stars or the early 1900's then you might like this movie. But there are a lot more entertaining romantic comedies out there, and they offer you much more than a mouthful of stale confection.
GARLAND DOES IT ONCE AGAIN!.......2006-11-27
I've admired for many years now the artistry and genius of the magnificent Garland and always thought that, even after the years of chemical abuse and "hard knocks", she still retained a very fine, fragile physical beauty in her face and form. However, it always amazes me, whenever I re-view one of her Metro films, how absolutely gorgeous she was and had this sensual, quivering and almost ethereal beauty about her. Having just watched this film, after not viewing it for quite some time, I'm struck with the same impression about her physical qualities. Her talent and artistry never fail to amaze me, no matter how many times I've watched a particular performance, both non-musical or in song. But damn it if she's not sexy and beautiful in this film. She gives one of her finest performances, and one of the finest comedic performance in film of all time. We all know and enjoy the musical numbers, especially "Merry Christmas", "Put Your Arms Around Me Honey", and the outrageous "I Don't Care" (which, along with "Get Happy" from "Summer Stock", would showcase the Garland to be!), and her wonderful comedic interplay with the funny and handsome Van Johnson. However, it's the last moments in this film, when Johnson finally knows that she is in-love with him, that gets to me and I appreciate her incredible talent as if anew. That scene has to be one of the most sensual moments in American cinema...the way he brushes her cheeks with his finger..the way he plays with the collar of her blouse....the way he pulls her close to him, kissing her in such a way that, well ,we know what's on HIS mind at that moment....and her reactions..slightly caught off-guard....hessitant...vulnerable....but then takes control and reciprocates his advances. Can you believe all this in a 3 minutes scene in an MGM film from 1949????? When Johnson says to take "him" out of his "envelope", I mean, talk about subtlety and double entendre , which simply does not exist in today's overtly and vulgar "realistic"- in-our-face world.
Not one of the greatest musical films made but an absolutely entertaining, enjoyable, and sexy little flick is "Summertime", with a radiant and lovely Garland which makes us realize, once again, that she was simply one of the finest artists of the past century. Enjoy!
Luigi ~ NYC.
In the good old Summertime 1949.......2006-04-14
IN THE GOOD OLD SUMMERTIME -a tale of squabbling music shop clerk who dont know they are romantic pen pals -shares a celebrated movie lineage that includes many remakes . In betwheen those two Judy Garland (1922-1969) and Van Johnson (1916- ) , had mail plus gold old tunes evoking an era of strawboaters and silvery moons . Sparked by Garland?s comedic zest and musical appeal this confections is one of the sweetest , most unpretentious entertainment of 1949 . It?s also a nostalgic farawell and a sunny hallo . Buster Keaton (1895-1966) appears in his final film for the studios he first joined in 1928 and hi is enormoeus funny in this movie . Liza Minelli (1946-) , all of 18 months young makes her debut in the finale . A Superb M-G-M Musical from the biggest and best studio of that time , Transfer in Ultra-Resolution Quality . Recommended

Christmas Classic in the Making.......2007-02-20
This comedy is as gentle as a cloud, but has much more substance; mistaken identity, quirky characters, a bit of mayhem, and cute kids. This is a movie that can be enjoyed by a wide range of ages. It was great to see Native Americans portrayed in such positive and clever ways. Keep an eye out for the runaway mouse. He and the vegan chef provide some of the biggest laughts in this delightful comedy.
Christmas In The Clouds.......2007-01-18
A fun, feel-good movie, great for watching during the Christmas season.
Delightful feel-good Christmas diversion!.......2007-01-16
Beautiful scenery (Robert Redford's Utah property) and a charming group of Native American actors make this a "different" Christmas story for the whole family.
All Sun Dance Awards Deserved!.......2007-01-10
Finally, a movie that isn't too much of anything--except for just completely enjoyable! What this movie isn't:
Not too serious
Not too funny
Not too sexual
Not too hard to follow
Not too many special effects
Not too long
No hidden messages
No politcal agenda
...you get the idea. If you want to sit back and watch a harmless holiday movie (not really what I would call a Christmas Classic, the holiday was more of a back drop and wasn't leaned on in any way for the story), and just be entertained without all the hub-bub then this is your movie! The charaters are so easy to understand and follow and care about and the story moves along at a perfectly steady pace. I never broke my spleen laughing but was happily amused throught the picture, which to me is a much greater feat for a movie!!! Not sure what to compare this too, it really has an original feel to it and is definitely what I would call a hidden gem as far as movies go...it was SOOOOO nice to have watched a movie and been given that warm fuzzy afterwards. Thank you to the everyone that had anything to do with the production of this movie.
Christmas in the Clouds.......2007-01-10
This is a special comedy romance story. You have to see it more than once to get all the humor that is in it. This movie deserves better recognition than it has gotten.
I highly recommend everyone watching this special video.

"out of my mind for renting this Derk".......2007-03-15
Mr. Seagal passed his prime 6 movies ago but someone didn't tell him. With the weight gain and the beefy cow leg arms Steven looks fat, tired, and just out of gas in this one. Please Steven, stop before you hurt yourself or your fans anymore!!!!!!!!!
Out of Reach.......2006-08-21
Typical Seagal movie. Lots of martial arts and some story. Good film for evenings entertainment
Out of Reach... out of ideas... out of patience...outta here..........2006-07-17
On the trail of stinky excrements such as The Foreigner and Out for a Kill, current reigning straight-to-video monarch Steven Seagal returns to again inflict upon his ever-dwindling fan base more of his patented scowls, unsubtle enviromental messages, and his ridiculous, past-prime brand of martial arts.
Steven Seagal half-heartedly (and even that might be giving him too much credit) portrays William Lansing, a former special ops agent turned wildlife refuge environmentalist, who travels to Poland to look into why his 13-year-old orphaned buddy Irina Morawska has stopped corresponding (maybe she found out Seagal's 77 years old and is a slug). Lansing unearths a slimy but lucrative slavery ring and comes face to face with malignant main baddie Faisal. It now only remains to see how grisly a fate Faisal will have at the chubby but deadly hands of Lansing.
Out of Reach is utter crapola. The amateurish production values, the corny, highly derivative script and the cringe-worthy acting "performances" cause this video release to plummet faster than an ugly prostitute's self-respect. Seagal's mumbled diction is at an all-time low. At certain points, a voice actor had to dub Seagal's voice because the Green Peace sensei couldn't be bothered to come back to the studio for post-production work (it's so obviously not him doing the voice-over, reading those letters to Irina). The action sequences are so preposterous and so clumsily-set up that even David Carradine is giggling.
I was such a big fan of Seagal when he first exploded on the scene in Above the Law (1988). Back then, he was the epitomy of the film action hero, more down to earth than Van Damme and more realistic than Ah-nold. His first five features were awesome, stripped-down virtuoso cinemas of abrupt, lethal, down-and-dirty ass-kicking. In the 1990s, the fact that he was a man of monosyllabic tendencies only contributed to his cultivated silent but deadly image. He was well on his way to becoming a martial arts icon. Then, sadly, pfffft...
Obviously, Seagal found out that he could still make beaucoup money without putting in a 100 percent effort. Over the years, the man had just let himself go, and it's a damn shame. True, he never was much of an actor: he probably uses his Burger King cash card more often than his SAG card. But now, even the low-rent genre he toils in should be embarassed to have him as a member.
Is it a surprise anymore when we find, in whatever film he's in, that his character has had special super-duper combat training in his past? First of all, if Steven Seagal were to now play a role other than that of an ex-military name-taker and ass-kicker, his Jabba the Hut-sized noggin would probably explode from the unexpected dramaturgical exertion, and all we'll have left of Seagal is the desolate remnants of a ponytail. His acting is now as strained and forced as his trousers belt must be. This is not the worst movie I've ever seen (I once walked out of a Dolph Lundgren flick; The Red Scorpion, I think it was) but it's pretty bad. For the record, Seagal has almost officially surpassed the unlamented Michael Dudikoff in terms of film careers rapidly circling into the toilet. One and a half stars. The rating would be lower but I'm sentimental.
Don't do it!.......2006-02-17
This is not the Seagal of the early nineties. Something has happened to him and it's not good. He's gained weight, does not move like before, and is hard to understand. The technical process is terrible. I will never buy another Seagal (I have 14 of the old ones) again and I think Amazon should seriously consider taking this off their site.
Cheeseburgers not out of reach for action 'legend'.......2006-02-16
Whoa. Seagal has just gone off in the last few years. After getting back to theaters with Exit Wounds in 2001, he made the appalling Half Past Dead, and has now settled into his straight-to-DVD throne.
The guy must be making some serious change from these movies. He's banged out around three flicks a year since 2003, all so dedicated to the new formula that I can only applaud him. Seriously. He just plays Seagal, and he's always an ex-secret agent, or something or other, he has the long coat to hide his wide-load body, and he whispers his words, getting dubbed in the process sometimes(!), and tries to underscore his films with a positive message about the environment, or life, or wisdom. I mean, the man was proclaimed as the reincarnation of a Buddhist Lama not long ago, which apparently does not conflict with his doing one cheap action flick after another for a few million. Oh, and he has a band and plays blues and tours and appears in guitar magazines. What a renaissance man.
I don't remember the plot or story to this one, I only saw the last 15 minutes. Suffice to say there are more exotic locales, another Asian director, excessive use of Seagal's army of stuntmen, more shameless Seagal mythology, more fat Seagal in long leather coats.
And yet, he is probably making more money than ever by now. After that Mountain Dew commercial, because we all know Mountain Dew is the preferred elixir of Lamas everywhere, he is raking it in with these little gems. They either have a) an Asian director, b) a rapper turned actor (DMX, Ja Rule, Treach, etc), or c) both. The hairline retreating from his ever-expanding face, the acting still, er, bad, the action still incoherent due to editing that masks the fact that Seagal can't do any stunts (except for the one where he finishes off an IHOP Grand Slam breakfast in seconds), you know what you're going to get. Idiotic 'entertainment' and a damn good laugh, even a cry for how far the large man has fallen. No doubt this and two or three other flicks will be packaged together as a morbid DVD special.

Customer Reviews:
Perhaps not completely politically correct, but far less insulting than modern children's programs/cartoons........2006-12-09
It's true that not all the shorts here are technically Christmas related, but neither was the original 'From All of Us to All of You', for anyone who goes back far enough to recall this one. It debuted on 'Walt Disney Presents'(as it was called at that time) back in 1959. Basically, this is one of the earliest Christmas specials for children(predating 'Mr.Magoo's Christmas Carol' and 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer', both from the early 60s). I actually caught it on both 'The Wonderful World of Disney'(the show's title during the '70s) and, later, on the Disney Channel(back when it wasn't just 'Saved by the Bell'-styled kiddie shows). 'From All of Us to All of You' did offer a currier and ives scene from, I believe, the film 'Melody Time'(available on DVD). However, no Christmas identification was specifically given to this winter excerpt, borrowed from the previous film, and it oddly didn't affect the cheerfull holiday mood of the show one bit.
Also, I realize that everything from film to stage theater to the funny papers were far from politically correct in the day, but if that's all that 'modern' parenting has to worry about, turn on 'Barney'. It's pathetically annoying and, quite likely, will raise your toddler to become a goofy moron, but it beats having to explain to them that dogs tails are for themselves to wag only, guns are for adults, and cartoons are...well, cartoons.
Kind of a misnomer..........2005-12-09
Since I've been picking up the Walt Disney's Treasures collections, I've been largely ignoring the "Classic Cartoon Favorites," but I decided to pick this one up to go with my library of Christmas DVDs. I was slightly disappointed when I watched it. Of the seven shorts included on this set, only three of them are holiday-related. "Mickey's Good Deed," an early cartoon about Mickey trying to provide a merry Christmas to a home of orphans, is the gem of the collection. It really shows off the inherent goodness of the character, and was a little funnier than some of the later cartoons, as he wasn't quite the straight man he would become.
"The Clock Watcher," a Donald cartoon, features the screwy duck working as a gift wrapper, and "Toy Tinkers" is a Donald-vs-Chip-and-Dale classic.
The rest of the cartoons seem to have been included by virtue of being set in the wintertime, even though they've got nothing to do with the stated theme. They're okay cartoons, but not what I was looking for. Still, I'll get the other Holiday volume of this series (Vol. 9) as it contains probably the two greatest Disney Christmas cartoons -- "Pluto's Christmas Tree" and "Mickey's Christmas Carol."
Beware.......2005-12-08
I made the mistake of not watching this before allowing my 3.5 year old to. I don't consider myself overprotective, but these stories have a kid abusing a dog (Pluto), a kid having his pants pulled down and being spanked over someone's knee (including showing the kid's bottom from above), and Donald chasing Chip & Dale with a revolver in the first 2 cartoons among other things. I turned it off after that. Talked to several other friends to see if I was overreacting & they recall seeing that kind of stuff when we were little but all agreed they don't want their toddlers seeing it anytime soon. Was a little surprised this made it out of Disney especially in today's day & time....May be okay for older kids, but I don't really want to explain guns or why it's not funny/okay to abuse our dogs to my 3.5 year old.
Excellent Collection.......2005-12-01
This is a great mix of seven Disney classic cartoons.I remember watching all of these on TV at one point or another, but not for a number of years now.My 26 month old granddaughter also enjoys these and has asked to watch them several times.I bought this at Target for $9.99 which is a decent price.Perfect for family holiday viewing. If you like the older cartoons, you won't be disappointed.
A SOLID COLLECTION!.......2005-09-15
I've been a bit tough on some of these recent Disney collections due to the fact that all or most of the shorts were already appearing on the Disney Treasures sets and so getting those were a much better value. But in this case, only three of these are on those Treasures sets and each is on a different one so it makes this a definite one to pick up. Certaintly they will eventually be on the Treasures editions but until then I would recommend this set. Be advised that even though it says holiday celebration not all of these shorts really have a holiday theme. Some are simply shorts that take place in the winter.
Rescue Dog 1947 - Pluto is a rescue dog in the snow-covered mountains of the frozen north. But when he tangles with a playful baby seal, it turns out that he is the one who needs to be rescued.
Toy Tinkers - 1949 - It's Christmas time, and Chip 'n' Dale fight with Donald for the goodies under his tree. This was nominated for an Oscar as best short subject
Corn Chips 1951 - Donald cons Chip and Dale into shoveling his snowy sidewalk, and ends up shoveling popcorn
Clock Watcher - 1945 - Donald takes a job as a gift wrapper in a department store.
Mickey's Good Deed 1932 - On Christmas Eve, Mickey needs money to help out a poor mother's desperate children. So he sells Pluto to a rich family- whose spoiled brat gives the pooch a real run for his money. Black & white
Lend a Paw 1941 - Pluto is mean to a pesky little kitten, but saves it from drowning in a frozen river, thanks to his good conscience (the angel and devil in his head battle it out).
Peculiar Penguins 1935 - A dance piece from the South Pole. Peter catches a fish to show his love for Polly. The fish expands when she eats it, making her look fat, and Peter foolish.

These are great DVDs. I just wish they had more of then for purchase.
cannot stress how good this cartoon is.......2007-02-12
I absolutely love watching Peep with my daughter. We began to watch it when she was 22 mos old and has loved it ever since. It's comical for adults while at the same time at a different level funny for the youngsters. I like how it incorporates science with humor and great story-telling. We began to watch it on The Learning Channel via satellite while living in the caribbean, and continued to watch it in Canada. If you don't get this on your cable or satellite, order it. You will not regret it. Your child will want to watch it repeatedly.
Peep and his pals.......2007-01-27
This is an excellent DVD. I bought this for my grandaughter and grandson. They love it.

Classic Donald & Daisy.......2006-04-12
With the criticism of the "Cartoon Classic Favorites" collection being redudent of the "Walt Disney Treasures", I can tell with this fourth wave of the series that Disney has begun to hear the voices and offer a bit more of the cartoons that have not yet been seen. While all of these Donald cartoons will probably be completely released in the "Walt Disney Treasures", for only $9.99 to $14.99 (depending on how much you pay at whatever merchandise you end up buying these DVDs from), they are worth the investment with this wave (Volume 10 through 12) to tie you over until what may be some years yet for all the Donald cartoons to be released in the "Walt Diseny Treasures" series.
Yes, I have all the "so far" released DVDs of both the "Walt Disney Treasures" and the "Cartoon Classic Favorites". For an avid classic disney collector, I feel that both of these collections are worth the money, both only these two collections. If you're serious about disney and the classic disney entertainment, I recommend both of these collections to the consumer.
Four of these Donald and Daisy cartoons have not been seen before on DVD. The other four have, but they are among the very best Donald cartoons ever made. With that being said, I can assure that this DVD features only some of the best and rariest Donald cartoons that DVD has to offer so far. A few of these cartoons I have not seen since I was about six years old (twenty years ago). "Donald's Diary" was bit of a surprise as I have forgotten about this cartoon, but noticed that it sticks out from the normal Donald routine and places Donald more in the image of the typical young fellow of the time in love. This has got to be one of my favorite Donald cartoons and I was happy to see this on DVD.
I have to admit I was a little sceptical about buying these DVDs and even more so this wave due to the overwhelming duplication in the past. However, the cartoons on these discs are becoming more and more of the popular ones and of the rariest ones, as well. If you have not bought any of the discs from the "Classic Cartoon Favorites" collection, this latest wave of DVDs will be one everyone surely will enjoy. The "Best Pals" edition of this series (Volumes 10 through 12) are well worth the investment this time around.
4 new to DVD cartoons & 4 re-issues. Still worth getting!.......2006-01-19
Cartoon Classics VOLUME 11: BEST PALS DONALD AND DAISY
This release features four cartoons that have never been issued to DVD, but three are announced for this Dec.11 2007's "Disney Treasures: Chronological Donald volume 3" . All are classic Donald Duck cartoons worth getting this DVD for!
Regardless of the duplication, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this DVD. DONALD'S DIARY (which sounds like a cheater cartoon but isn't) is my favorite. It has a stylized, almost UPA, look but still uses full animation. Donald's nightmare of marriage is a good show closer to this Donald & Daisy set. Even though DONALD'S DIARY will probably not be on a Disney Treasures DVD set until 2008 or later, it looks restored.
My only complaint (aside from the repetition of cartoons from other DVD releases) is that 10 Daisy cartoons were produced, so why only include 8 in her DVD set? Remember, DVDs can hold up to 3 hours of program without losing quality to compression artifacting, Disney is giving us less than one hour here!
Here is what you do get:
MR. DUCK STEPS OUT (1940 - previously released on "Disney Treasures: Donald volume 1" DVD Tin AND the "Mickey & Minnie's Sweetheart Stories" DVD.)
Donald heads out to court Daisy, but his nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie find devious ways to sabotage Donald's big date.
CURED DUCK (1945 - previously released on "Disney Treasures: Donald volume 2" DVD Tin.)
Daisy, fed up with Donald's temper, makes Donald take lessons to cure it with the aid of an `insult machine.' Donald is cured, but when he laughs at Daisy's hat, it's Daisy who gets hot under the collar.
DONALD'S DOUBLE TROUBLE (1946 - previously released on "Disney Treasures: Donald volume 2" DVD Tin AND the "Mickey & Minnie's Sweetheart Stories" DVD.)
Donald meets his double and decides to use him to win back Daisy. But the trick backfires when the double falls in love with Daisy himself.
SLEEPY TIME DONALD (1947 - NEW TO DVD, but announced for this Dec.11 2007's "Disney Treasures: Chronological Donald volume 3")
Donald sleepwalks to Daisy's house, and Daisy is kind enough to steer him back to his own bed. Later, when Donald tells Daisy that she's the one walking in her sleep, the two get into a funny argument.
CRAZY OVER DAISY (1950 - NEW TO DVD, but announced for this Dec.11 2007's "Disney Treasures: Chronological Donald volume 3")
Chip `N Dale make mischievous trouble for Donald while he's riding his bike. Donald tries to get even, but is frustrated when Daisy takes the chipmunks' side.
DONALD'S DREAM VOICE (1948 - NEW TO DVD, but announced for this Dec.11 2007's "Disney Treasures: Chronological Donald volume 3")
Donald wants to improve his speaking voice, and buys miraculous voice pills that increase his vocal range. Donald manages to lose all the pills, including his last one that accidentally drops into the mouth of a cow.
DONALD'S CRIME (1945 - previously released on "Disney Treasures: Donald volume 2" DVD Tin.)
Donald is broke, and when he gets a date with Daisy, he breaks into his nephews' piggy bank out of desperation. His conscience gets the best of him, however, and Donald finds a job to pay back Huey, Dewey and Louie.
DONALD'S DIARY - (1954 - NEW TO DVD! No announcements for other releases yet.)
Daisy almost succeeds in getting Donald to say "I do" and settle down in marriage. But Donald gets cold feet when he thinks about the worst that could happen to a married duck, and he runs away.
