Executive-produced by Superman Returns director Bryan Singer and narrated by star Kevin Spacey, Look, Up in the Sky: The Amazing Story of Superman is an exhaustive, nearly two-hour documentary covering over 60 years of the Man of Steel. It begins with the early work of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster leading to the 1938 Action Comics debut of Superman, then continues through the Max Fleischer cartoons, the Columbia serials, to the 1950s Adventures of Superman series and the tragic suicide of its star, George Reeves. Then it's on to the 1966 Broadway musical, the 1970s feature films (including screen tests of Stockard Channing and Lesley Anne Warren), the paralysis and death of star Christopher Reeve, the subsequent TV series Lois & Clark and Smallville, and the 2006 feature Superman Returns. The documentary also discusses Superman's transformations during World War II, the atomic age, and the 1960s; events in the comic books such as John Byrne's reboot and The Death of Superman; and obscurities such as a pilot for The Adventures of Superpup and the TV-musical version of It's a Bird… It's a Plane… It's Superman. Super Documentry.......2007-06-27

There's something inherently cool about Superman, and there always has been. Maybe it's the way his alter ego, Clark Kent, seems like a geeky outsider which finds a lot in common with the general public.

Perhaps it's the kid in all of us which wishes they had the ability to fly, or super human strength, or x-ray vision.

Whatever the case, you're fall into one of two categories. Either you're an obsessive fan who works Superman into each and every one of your works (like comedian Jerry Seinfeld) or you're the casual fan who really enjoys the movies, but doesn't have a shrine dedicated to the hero from planet Krypton (like me.)

From the legends humble beginnings spawned from the imagination of two young guys from Cleveland, Ohio to the pop cultrual phenomenon known worldwide and every place between. This fascinating history of the famed DC comics figure is a visual stunner.

Throughout the years Superman has been a comic book, a cartoon, a movie franchise, a tv show, even a failed broadway musical. He's been taken seriously and ridiculed. He's been praised and balked at.

However, the constant remains, as the viewer witnesses; Superman is what all humans should be. He has morals, and he stands up for all that is right in the world.

I recommend this DVD simply because, like I said, it's fascinating. It's amazing how many actors once portrayed Superman or Lois Lane. Along with the changes and tranformations the comic book and many characters have endured. The tragedies involved with a few (namely George Reeves and Christopher Reeve.)

This DVD covers almost the entire history of Superman. From comics to radio to cartoons to movies. It's thorough and very informative. Guest stars include Billy Mummy, Mark Hammell, Gene Simmons, the original Lois Lane and Jimmy from the George Reeves' Superman show from the fifties, and several more. It keeps your interest and is a must for any Superman or just plain comic book fan of all ages. I highly recommend it.

This was the best season of the Amazing Race. Rob and Amber continued their domination from Survivor All-Stars. They would have won if not for Uchenna and Joyce's airplane miracle. (Has anyone else ever seen an airplane come back to the terminal for anyone?) This was very entertaining the entire season. Check it out!

This season was great!! Rob and Amber dominated just like they did in Survivor All Stars. They came in 1st a lot. The winners of this season were Uchenna and Joyce. People thought that Rob and Amber would win. Ron and Kelly argued a lot and if they did not argue as much as they did, they probaly would of come in 2nd (after Rob and Amber). Rob and Amber wer less than 1 minute away from winning but they had no cash to pay the taxi driver. Uchenna and Joyce passed them when they were begging for money. The 4th place racers: Meridith and Gretchen. Gretchen had an ugly fall in one of the episodes. Gretchen was gong in a cave, but then she lost her grip and fell, she had blood all over her face, but she got medical attention. People were shocked they came in 4th place because Meridith and Gretchen were seniors Meridith: 69 years old Gretchen: 66 years old! 5th place racers Lynn and Alex: AHHHHH! These people annoy me. They are boyfriends and.... boy they annoy me. 6th place racers: Brian and Gregg. They had a car flip in Africa, they were in 2nd place in the race, then, Brian was going way too fast on a small road and then the car flipped over. Brian and Gregg were fine, but their camere man was hurt badly. 7th place racers: Ray and Deana. These 2 were dating on and off, you can tell why they werent dating all the time, they argued more thea Ron and Kelly! 8th place racers: Susan and Patrick. This was a mother son team. I think they should of made it farther but, they were too slow. 9th place racers: Debbie and Bianca. On the 1st leg they came in 1st. Then on the 2nd leg they were in the middle of the pack. On the 3rd leg Susan and Patrick beat Debbie and Bianca narrowly. Debbie and Bianca were elimanated. 10th place racers: Megan and Heidi: These 2 roomates were hotties!! They were flirthing with Brian and Gregg. I really, really, really wish they made it farther! Last place racers: Ryan and Chuck. These 2 hillbillys stood no chance in a final foot race at the end of the 1st leg with Ron and Kelly. This season was great! Buy it!!

Great Season.......2006-08-04

Im a loyal Amazing Race and Survivor fan and when I saw that Rob and Amber from survivor were competing I was really looking forward to see how the other teams would react to them. I was wasn't disappointed! They weren't very liked.
This season has some great teams like Meredith and Gretchen who surprised everyone by doing so well to Ron and Kelly who's constant arguing made the game quite enjoyable. And who could forget Lyn and Alex the gay couple who made tv viewers split their sides laughing with their hilarious comments.

This season also had some great locations and the detours and roadblocks were the hardest yet. I was in shock when Phil the host revealed the new twist about the Non-elimination legs! This is well worth buying and watching as it is one of the best and most competitve seasons yet. A must have!

I think all the people who reviewed this film have to watch it again from the prospective of a child. Of course the basis of the story isn't plausible, that is the fun of it. This movie is the epitome of a childs' dream adventure. When you are watching it remember that the movie isn't targetted towards adults, it is supposed to be this fantastic adventure where kids get learn things without parents and have an amazing time. So get over yourselves and look at the movie from a different point of view. I love this movie I challenge anyone to disagree with my prospective. Hope you enjoy!

Surprisingly Good.......2006-01-24

This movie is better than I expected. I thought it would be really corny and dumb. But it was really good actually.

The Chinese actors in this movie really are speaking Mandarin. A good friend of mine who is Chinese was watching this movie with me, and translated the Chinese dialogue for me. It was authentic and fit with the movie. For instance, when the girl Ling and her grandfather are arguing in the back of the tractor at the beginning of the movie, the girl is complaining about this spoiled brat white kid. The grandfather is telling her to be quiet. Then when the cart crashes, the grandfather starts complaining that they've got no respect for old people.

That nice little authentic touch, which was never translated on-screen, added a lot to the movie in my opinion. The only part my friend couldn't understand was when they went to the Tibetan village, because the people there were speaking Tibet dialect, not Mandarin. That just makes it more authentic.

The scenery for the movie is quite beautiful. They must have had to travel far from the cities of China to find such an unpopulated, beautiful place. Shots of the city were authentic also, but it is good that the movie didn't spend much time there.

Usually I like to take a movie and rip it to shreds, nitpicking each and every flaw I can find and criticizing it mercilessly. With this movie, I would rather not do that. Seeing a cute little baby panda happily running and stumbling along is a sight rarely seen, and is so cute that it makes me want to ignore anything that might be wrong with this movie otherwise.

When the mama panda gets trapped in the bear-trap, man that really makes you feel bad. To me it was an even worse feeling than when Bambi's mother died. Fortunately, it all turns out good in the end.

If only the same could be said for pandas in real life. Now I see why it is such a shame that there are so few of them left. Only 1,000 left? I hope the population has grown since this movie was made. It's been 10 years since then.

You know, cuteness rarely does it for me. Too much cute usually makes me gag. But the cuteness in this movie just won me over. Mainly because it is so authentic. A baby panda rolling off of a log and landing on its head just can't be faked, and it is extremely cute to say the least.

You can't watch the baby panda in this movie and feel nothing, unless you are just cold and dead inside.

In conclusion, this is a very good family movie. As another reviewer put it, it's a movie you can watch with your kids and actually not feel bored. Recommmended.

better to watch free willy again and again.......2005-11-17

As a rule, being in the child care field, I avoid all but a few of this type of movie and have to agree with the poor reviews of this film. If we are going to give our young people inspiring stories about kids doing their best to save endangered animals, we owe it to them as well as ourselves to do it in a plausible way. Free Willy is an example of a good execution of the genre. Flawed as it is in some respects, at least it approaches the subject much more realistically than The Amazing Panda Adventure. Never should children be expected to suspend disbelief so far as they must with this movie. Children are PEOPLE and they deserve much more respect than they get from hack job movies of this nature being made by filmmakers who have no idea what it means to truly reach a child's mind. If your child enjoys animals and wants to see what it is truly like for these animals, or they want to see an entertaining story about kids or anyone trying to do right by them, there are cable and satellite tv channels filled with much better shows and movies than this drivel. Zero stars

Amazingly Hackneyed.......2005-06-16

Boy this was awful. Really really bad. I think the scene that best embodies how unrealistic and moronic this film truly is, would be the one in which the two main characters (who are only about 14) find themselves covered with leeches, and so they spontaneously take off all their clothes and jump in a river, and then look SURPRISED that they've done so. Like they didn't realize that this was a stupid idea WHILE they were doing it. Now we get to sit and watch as the movie awkwardly bumbles its way through the "I'm a guy, you're a girl, we're accidentally naked" schtick. Just shoot me with one of those Panda tranq darts and put me out of my misery. Granted, this film did its job of keeping the kids I was with interested, but unlike most Disney films and other modern flicks geared towards young children, it had nothing to keep the adults even remotely interested. I think the reason that this movie takes place in Hong Kong, is because it's actually a form of ancient Asian torture. Avoid this like the plague. And if you have to choose, take the plague.

A Spiritual Adventure - Heart Warming Story of Ernest Bliss.......2007-06-05

Cary Grant plays modern day Buddha in this classic movie set in London (1937) during the post depression era. Ernest Bliss (Cary Grant) temporarily gives up his riches to become working poor to understand his apparent illness, and seek enlightenment. He rents an apartment in from an old lady who is compassionate and understanding. He works for a limousine service company as a driver where he meets a caring worker. He falls in love with a young woman named Frances Clayton (Mary Brian), and learns a crucial thing in life; to be in love, the lady doesn't have to be beautiful or wealthy, but all heart will do. During his adventure; he sees life, people, poverty, suffering, and sadness. He understands that people in spite of all uncertainties in life find happiness with what they have, and they care about another human being. He gradually realizes that his wealth is an obstacle in pursuit of happiness and to have peace in eternal life. Cary Grant has performed brilliantly with his usual caliber and charm, but I was impressed most with the performance of Mary Brian, who is loving, yet so vulnerable in life. My favorite scenes are when she interviews Ernest Bliss for his first job and later when he proposes to her on the steps of the building Frances works. This is a heart warming movie which doesn't have Christmas theme or set in Christmas time, but very appropriate for Christmas time viewing.

Cary Grant Did Have an Amazing Adventure.......2006-03-17

If you like old movies, and you like Cary Grant, this is definitely one you should see. Cary Grant, who plays Ernest Bliss, starts out as an unhappy, unsatisfied rich man with no meaning or direction in his life. Thinking he is ill, he seeks professional help from a doctor who seems to have become cynical towards his wealthy patients. The doctor prescribes that Ernest start over with no money and work and live on his own using none of his inherited fortune for himself for an entire year. The doctor, of course, doesn't think that rich Ernest can handle that so Ernest makes him a bet that he can.

What follows, is Ernest's "amazing adventure" with different jobs that teach him the lessons of life. He meets average ordinary people on his journey and learns that there is definitely more to happiness than money. Sometimes, it is the people with the least or the people you least expect who end up giving the most.

The movie is only about an hour long so it doesn't feel like parts of it get dragged out. I got the Alpha Video DVD release which was OK. The visuals definitely looked like an old movie with scratches and blacked out sections of frames that go by in a split second here and there. There are even a couple of minor skips which don't take away from the movie, but they were a little distracting to me. The audio was slightly muffled in spots but again, not enough to deter me from this film. If anything, these minor flaws add to the charm of this old movie. Of course, if the visuals could be made crisp and clear and the audio cleaned up enough to sharpen the sound, I wouldn't complain.

Cary Grant is what makes this film very enjoyable. The supporting cast is alright but it is Cary Grant who you can see emerging as the legendary star. When he smiles, he warms your heart and this movie's overall lessons are things all of us can be reminded of often.

When Cary Grant inherits copious fortune, he sets out to earn his living from the beginning as if nothing would happened. A very curious way to self redemption and a formidable motive to build a very smart comedy.

I love Cary Grant, but............2004-07-24

Ok, so I bought this DVD because one of my all time favorite actors is in it (I'm a huge Jimmy Stewart fan too!). While this movie was a good back drop for Cary Grant, the plot was a bit bland...spoiled rich man must make his own living for a year to win a bet. Some of the meetings with his "monied" crowd, while he's a working stiff, are entertaing, but not really memorable. Maybe I'm used to his later movies where he really shined, but this movie just didn't grab me. Or maybe it was the quality of the DVD. I might have gotten more out of it if I had turned the sound off, the sound track was that bad. There were a few skips and the usual "old film" wrinkles in the visual, but they wouldn't have been so hard to deal with if I didn't have to keep adjusting the sound....even then, some of the dialogue still sounded like gibberish. Could be that I've just got a really bad bootleg copy. I advise against purchasing the DVD whose cover case shows CG from the shoulders up in front of a car and stone house.

Good, but overrated........2004-03-09

There are better Cary Grant movies out there to watch. This one is just about ok. The movie DVD is released by various companies. I had the BFC edition, and was not very thrilled by the print.

Amazing Airplanes.......2005-06-13

My grandchildren LOVED this DVD. They are 7, 6, and three four year olds. Each of them, boys and girls, sit captivated by the Blue Angels and stunt pilot and, especially, the evacuation from a Delta plane into the water. They are mesmerized by all of the action. I liked the way safety for the children is highlighted and the fact that Firefighter George emphasizes diversity. He shows women in traditional men's roles, as well as having blacks and whites in both the child actors and those in leadership positions. You'll be very glad you bought this DVD for your children and grandchildren...I sure am! Over 40 minutes of peace every day since it arrived...and they continue begging me to let them watch it again and again.

I guess I should have known that the quality of the movies on this DVD would be poor. But I was stoked to find 3 movies that I love on the same DVD. Great movies, very poor quality.

It would be more wise to spring for each movie seperately.

Great Value.......2006-09-14

I almost didn't buy this DVD when I saw the first review, but I have bought quite a number of titles in this Popflix series and I have always been pleased with them.

This Cary Grant package is a great value. You get three of Grant's classic comedies for the price of one DVD. The quality is good. It's not up to contemporary film stanards, but these are after all 50 year old movies. Given their age, the quality is fine and it is about what you would expect.

On the whole, it is an exceptional value and well worth acquiring.

Poor quality.......2006-07-13

This is a very poor quality dvd! I don't recommend buying it. For example, the picture in Charades jumps up and down the whole time. I have the video version of Charades and it is an excellent picture.
