Pseudo-Psychedelic Silliness.......2005-06-02

Earthmen are having trouble breeding. Spaceships filled with men armed with potency pills are scouring the galaxy looking for women to breed with. We follow the adventures of one such ship.

Our ship finds a planet that is full of women wearing latex bondage-wear. When they run into trouble, one of them suggests calling Candy Von Dewd to come to their rescue. Candy spends her time dancing on her ship while hoping she will reach the men in time.

In the end we have to wonder what is going on. Candy does not do anything. Potency pills apparently kill the user. Was the mission successful or not? The ship scenes and crew interaction seem to have been inspired but Dark Star (but not done as well). The psychedelic nature of the film seems to have been crafted by someone who had heard of the term but didn't know what it meant. By the way, the costume malfunction was on Candy and not one of the planet residents as mentioned in another review.

I am not sure that any viewer could be desperate enough to enjoy this film.

Dark Trip.......2005-03-18

Turn off your lights. Let your set glow with the shades of another world. The colors in this movie are hued from an acid pallete and the darks are black enough to hide something sinister underneath.
They say the universe is made up of more dark matter than anything else. This movie takes you there on a candy striped trip that seems to open the door to a whole new genre, a kind of candy coated noir as the title would imply.
Let yourself be hypnotized till the final scene which evokes such nihilistic sci-fi as PLANET of the APES and PHASE IV.

Hello Candy.......2005-01-18

I found Candy Von Dewd a treat and a kick. Full of color and sharp editing; it shows definite awareness of scifi history, creating an atmosphere of strange sex and entrancing altered states, plus a not-that unbelievable plot about reproductive collapse. Truly a flick that melts over you. I loved the fashion and all the cheapo grimlies (ie flashing gadgets) and the cast is fun. This is the kind of movie that makes Exploitation a thing to ponder.

In the distant future human males are having, uh, endocrine issues. Armed with `potency pills' they travel through space in search of breedable females. They find them.
Or something like that. Who knows? CANDY VON DEWD is a very, very low budget film with no production values, what might charitably be called a confused plot, and actors who can't act. They can shimmy and shake their latex bodysuits and miniskirts, and stretch out on cheap rugs, but they can't act.
You can forgive a lot in a movie made on a severely limited budget. Professional actors and expensive props are beyond their reach. However, coherent storytelling and interesting characters are within reach, but there's none of that here. And as for the `girls of Latexploita,' save for about 1-1/2 seconds of wardrobe malfunction there's no nudity - and if a film ever needed a hearty infusion of nudity, it's this one.
Even people who love bad movies will probably want to pass on this one.

Oh, how I long for Ed Wood! This is campy at its best, or-a worst, depending how you look at it. Really cheap sets, bad acting, costumes that could have only been designed on acid, a silly plot ripped-off directly from "Barberella."

A good exercise in bad cimena, much like "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes." You really have to see it to believe it! It goes beyond description. Just sit back and enjoy a little cheese on your popcorn.
