Shot in sunny Toronto and set to a dreamy score, Lie With Me looks and sounds like an art film, but the end result isn't quite so lofty. The plot is thin and the dialogue superfluous, but no matter--Canada's Clément Virgo (Love Come Down) just wants to turn you on and he has enlisted two attractive, uninhibited young performers to assist in his aims. Leila (Lauren Lee Smith, The L Word) and David (Eric Balfour, Six Feet Under) meet at a party. He's with his girlfriend, but finds himself drawn to her. The feeling is mutual. She's alone, but quickly finds an unattached hipster with whom to have a tryst. David catches her in the act. Instead of turning away, he watches. They start seeing each other immediately afterwards. "I'm not hooked on danger, [I'm] hooked on sex," Leila claims, but she isn't exactly the most trustworthy narrator. She wants a purely physical relationship, while David wants something more. They return to their old lives, but the obsession refuses to die. Based on the novella by Virgo's partner, Tamara Berger, Lie With Me plays like a low-budget cross between Adrian Lyne's overrated 9 1/2 Weeks and Wayne Wang's underrated The Center of the World. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Lie With Me is more than just lust and sex. David for example doesn't know what he wants they show him with his dad, which we know is an invalid. He has trust issues just like Leila. When he first sees her, I think that he is infautated with her. He helps her at the party when she becomes dizzy, he watches her when she is walking through that wooded area. Basically he is in love with her. When Leila is having sex with that guy he can't help but feel lust for her at first. I mean the guy watches her and then they make a connection. Leila is dealing with the collaspe of her parents marriage and struggling with herself and what she wants. She meets David and she feels actual love i mean she can't be away from him for one second without wanting to feel him. She talks about how when she has sex that she can feel the pleasure inside of her but wants to feel something completely different with someone else. You guessed it that someone is David she wants to love him but she doesn't know how that is why she leaves him. Then she realizes how much she wants to be with him and he pushes her away. She is persistant and then she shows herself to him. In turn he rips out her heart and tells her he doesn't want to be with her, but that is all a lie cause the hurt in his eyes shows through. I think that Leila freaks out because she doesn't know how to comfort him when his dad dies, because you comfort the ones you love in their time of need. Plus i think Eric Balfour has a nice everything in that movie. Both are passionate towards each other even in those scenes when he gets jealous or is still grieving he hurts and the one person who he loves, leaves him. I don't think that he needs a mommy i thinks he needs a lover and someone to show him who he is. Also when they show Leila like having sex form behind i think that she is scared to let someone make actual love to her but David changes that i mean he asks her out on a date. You don't date someone you just want to have sex with. I love this movie i mean yeah theres graphic nudity but its hot and steamy and the actors make David and Leila come to life. Both Eric Balfour and Lauren Lee Smith are the perfect actors to play them.
A range of emotions on film.......2007-06-24
I bought this movie out of curiosity. I love this movie because of the range of emotions many of us experience when one desires and loves. Virgo uses long scenes with few cuts and dialogue to show what's felt when one falls for another. There's lust, attachment, uncertainty, and resolution. The movie shows how one may grow or regress because of these feelings. Rather than lots of dialogue, Virgo uses the nonverbal communication to show what's felt - the trembling of the lips with anticipation, the attachment to another when kissing their arm while asleep, or the misery and disconnect from being without the other. The plot is simple, but many of us have felt the contents of the movie at some point in time. This movie is the first that has delved into the depth of these feelings and put it brillantly on film.
If you're looking for erotic scenes, they're definitely there, and add to the content of the movie. However, if you're thinking this movie is about nothing but sex, you're misled.
Lie With Me will make you think and feel for these characters. Take the 90 minutes; it's worth the time.
Clement Virgo's Lie With Me is self-indulgent porn masquerading as an 'art' film.......2007-06-23
I've learnt to spot the danger signs of an impending bad movie. One of them is when the director is also the screenwriter and producer -- in short, there's no one there to put the brakes on when the film starts to get too self-absorbed. Such is the case with this Canadian indie film that seems to have gone straight to video.
Based on Tamara Berger's novel of the same name (published by the appropriately named Gutter Press), we meet Leila (Lauren Lee Smith), a young woman at a party. She's more than a little tipsy, and looks to be on the scrawny side, dressed clearly with the message that she's there to get laid -- oops, I mean have a good time. One man there is pretty bold about eyeing her, and the pair end up in the bathroom, where he helps her to sober up a little with a drink of water. It almost turns into sex, but his girlfriend calls for him outside and he leaves. He, we find out, is named David (Eric Balfour).
She leaves the party, taking with her Shy Guy (Michael Facciolo), and proceeds to have sex with him outside, up against a chain-link fence. Sitting in his car, watching the pair, is none other than David, along with his girlfriend. David and Leila watch each other getting laid, mimicing each others actions, as it were. At this point, I had a pretty good idea of what this film was going to be about, but as I have this thing about finishing the book or film I start, I didn't turn it off right away.
Eventually, Leila and David meet up again, this time in a public playground, and in a daring moment, she exposes herself to him, making her own interest pretty well known. They move onto his apartment for sex, and the sexual compulsion between the two of them gets going. And in fact that's what most of this film is about -- we're either watching Leila and David going at it like deranged rabbits, or she's letting us know her thoughts and experiences in a voice over that supposed to be titillating and erotic, but sounds more like a bad memoir.
The relationship is pretty predictable -- lust, jealousy phase, playing house together phase, she tries to get it past sex, he withdraws and treats her like trash, they break up, and so on and so forth. Yawn. We've seen this before. While I have to say that the sex at least looks real and honest, the rest of the film isn't that interesting. David, in particular, strikes me as the sort of young man that is fashionable these days -- unshaven, grungy and without any visible means of support. He does take care of an elderly, ailing father, so I guess that's something in his favour. But who in their right mind goes about in dirty jeans without underwear? I had a strong urge to go dip him in a vat of lye.
Leila's not much better. She's perpetually rumpled in skimpy clothing that looks to be ready to fall off at anytime. It's a cheap and sleazy look, and if she's looking for true love or respect from men, it's not a way to really inspire it either. Her personal life isn't that much better -- her parents are going through a divorce, her job is a dead-end job, she seems to spend her free time on the couch watching porn, or partying it up with weed and alcohol. She's not someone I would really care to know in reality either.
In short, this is a couple made for each other. Neither one of them are very responsible, and frankly, he treats her like a piece of meat. I suppose this is what makes this a modern, young adult relationship, sex without strings or emotion. And while the sex does get interesting, I've seen far far better in x-rated film, the only thing this lacks is what is known as the money shot in the trade.
Indeed, Virgo tries to make this as arty as possible, with lots of soft lighting, on location shots in Toronto, use of colour and texture, and I guess that works. But there isn't any sort of plot in this except for the so-called romance between the two leads, and their sexual shenanigans. Oh, there's an attempt or two with the illness of one parent, and the impeding divorce, but the central relationship is so tawdry, the viewer is left with the attitude of so what? by the end.
I don't demand syrupy romance, as long as there is some sort of passion there, but these two are so out of touch with themselves, how can they possibly make it work with each beyond the rubbing together of two body parts? That was the other big complaint with this one -- no one hits a climax that fast, and here it's the slam-bam-thankee-ma'am sort of sex. I kept thinking that she must have had insides of old leather to put up with that.
This is not for children of any age, and I would suspect that most adults would find it a bit on the disturbing side. There is quite a bit of sex in this, with male and female frontal nudity, sex in public, public exposure, sex in public, in cars, with lots of foul language and every form of straight sex that can be performed. There's plenty of drug and alcohol abuse as well. But they do try with a bit of condom use -- after all, this is the age of safe sex, I suppose.
No subtitles, some lackluster trailers for other films, and a voice-over commentary from the director. Nothing really special to watch either.
This is certainly a D-list film. Those who prefer their film to have sex and be honest about it might find a few minutes worth watching, but this 100-minute clunker has nothing else going for it. Those who are looking for a love story will be turned off by the callous brutality and attitudes. It's not a likeable film at all, and I urge you to spend your time with something, anything, else.
Not recommended.
a porn movie disguised as a 'b' movie.......2007-06-21
this movie was about a female sex maniac seeking free rides in the city of angels. there were lot of love making scenes in this hollow movie. the screenplay writer was the original author of that book titled in the same name. if this movie was shot in the '70s timeline, i'd accepted it unconditionally, but regretfully, this is a 2005 movie, aids, hiv and other diseases transmitted from random sex are real. so every time when this young woman involved in free sex, i was just sick to death.
a big question here: what's the point of making this movie?
It's like watching a car wreck, only prettified.......2007-06-10
I saw this movie on cable one night and couldn't help but purchase it on DVD. There were some elements that if you take them one by one, are not great by itself, but taken as a whole, it sorta worked. The 2 main characters were openly flawed; both had their own background stories, but to me, the movie was really about the heroine. Leila (Lauren Lee Smith) was your typical hookup girl. She looks like a disheveled model with committment issues, and she has a face that sorta grows on you-- she's not pretty right away. She also doesn't say anything new (how guys don't feel love, all they think about is sex blah blah), but just like what my title suggests, it's something you can't help but watch anyway. Part of that feeling too is that the two protagonists look like they can be a real-life couple. They both look like models, but not typical (annoying) Abercrombie, just good-looking without trying too hard. David (Eric Balfour) did his part of looking good and sexy...I didn't focus on his acting too much; He certainly looked desirable enough that would merit the fuss over him. I really appreciated the scenes that showed sexual restlessness; it's late in the afernoon, there's-nothing-to-do-and-I'm-lonely/frisky and Leila is by herself...It was a relief to see that after a rebuff, Leila didn't go out shopping or hang out with the girls and sputter self-righteous crap.

With Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson as a pair of brazen wedding crashers, this buddy/romantic comedy milks a few big laughs from its foolproof premise. Under the direction of David Dobkin (who previously worked with Wilson on Shanghai Knights), the movie ranges from bawdy romp to mushy romance, and that tonal identity crisis curtails the overall hilarity. But when the well-teamed costars are firing on all pistons with fast-paced dialogue and manic situations, belly laughs are delivered at a steady clip. Things get complicated when the guys infiltrate the family of the Treasury Secretary (Christopher Walken), resulting in a romantic pair-off between Vaughn and the congressman's oversexed daughter Gloria (Isla Fisher) while Wilson sincerely woos another daughter, Claire (Rachel McAdams), who's unhappily engaged to an Ivy League cheater (Bradley Cooper). Walken is more or less wasted in his role, but Jane Seymour and Henry Gibson make amusing appearances, and a surprise guest arrives late in the game for some over-the-top scene-stealing. It's all a bit uneven, but McAdams (considered by some to be "the next Julia Roberts") is a pure delight, and with enough laughs to make it easily recommended, Wedding Crashers will likely find its place on DVD shelves alongside other flawed but enjoyable R-rated comedies that embrace a naughtier, nastier brand of humor with no need for apologies. --Jeff Shannon
On the DVD
The "Uncorked" edition of Wedding Crashers adds about 8 minutes of footage to the theatrical release. Of chief interest are extended beach and bathroom scenes between Vince Vaughn and Isla Fisher, and Vaughn's extended confession to Father O'Neil (Henry Gibson), but there are also new scenes featuring Keir O'Donnell as the eccentric Todd and Ellen Albertini Dow as the potty-mouthed grandmother. This edition is billed as unrated because it wasn't resubmitted to the MPAA, but the sexier bathroom scene and coarser confession aren't particularly raunchier than the original film, and there's no additional nudity. You can watch the Uncorked edition once to see the new footage, but for subsequent viewings you'll probably choose to stick with the theatrical release, which is also included on the DVD.
Bonus features consist of two very good commentary tracks, one by director David Dobkin and another by Vaughn and Owen Wilson. Dobkin's is more technically informative, and he specifically discusses why the added scenes were originally cut. Vaughn and Wilson are a little more subdued than might be expected, but they share some laughs, recall some material that was left out, and wander into irrelevant territory such as football and Wilson's dog. Other features include four deleted scenes with optional commentary by Dobkin, and two featurettes covering the making of the film (including the logistics of staging five different weddings, and interviews with the "magic and balloon consultant") and Vaughn and Wilson's meandering discussion of "the rules" of wedding crashing. For a more organized recap, there's a 24-screen text-only list of all the rules. The opening menu is clever, but slow to load after you've watched it the first time. --David Horiuchi

Nerd Check.........2007-06-27
Here's a nerd check... Go out and rent or buy this movie one night. Call a few buddies up, get a six pack (+), or whatever else floats your boat, for each buddy in the room. Have about 3-4 each. Watch the opening scene and if everyone isn't laughing or pretty pumped up then you're probably a nerd. Have the rest of the beer during the rest of the movie. Maybe slip into some scotch or tequila.. because this movie stays funny pretty much the entire way through. If you ever wanted to know what it's like to be a 30 something girl chasing guy that still hasn't grown up then you must watch this movie. These two are seriously "livin' the dream". This is already a classic. Just buy it and if you don't like it today, pick it up in 5 years and you'll figure it out.
Must have.......2007-06-22
Movie lives through Vaughn and Wilson. Both show an easy performance and want the audience to just simply have a good time.
The Story is nothing spectacular. If you liked "Meet the Fockers", you're gonna like this one as well.
Its the actors, who make the difference. Vaughn is hilarious and proofs, that he's much better in comedies than in "serious" movies. Wilson plays himself (as in every one of his movies) and scores a good 2nd place.
Walken is just Walken and thats worth half the ticket. The girls are gorgeous. Especially Rachel McAdams knocked me out. Holy Cow! The Crashers are good fun. Not an new invention of the genre, but especially because of the actors, this movie rocks!
Likable, but disappointing.......2007-05-26
I was hoping for something special with this. This movie boasts both a great cast and great setup. Two 30-something attorneys still holding on to an "Animal House" lifestyle?...oh yeah, Wilson and Vaughn fit the roles perfectly. The supporting cast includes the appealing Rachel McAdams, and the always-great Christopher Walken and Jane Seymour.
The movie itself is marketed as a comedy cut from the cloth of Animal House. And when it keeps that focus...showing the two main characters as personable rogues, the movie works. Everything seems to be in place: Plentiful schemes and partying by our heroes? Check. One great grandiose scam underway? Check. Detestable rival for our heroes? Check.
There are problems however. The movie suffers from bad timing and editing. It also takes itself way too seriously. The timing suffers because while there are some great setups, the payoffs aren't there. Here's an example--while Vaughn is staying at his latest girlfriend's family house, events run out of control to the point that he becomes unwillingly bound to the guest bed. The big payoff is when her dad comes in the room, but the scene just ends. Dad seems to notice the ropes holding Vaughn into place...but there's no real reaction.
The movie is overlong and needed some major editing when the story returns from the visit to the family house. It's pretty easy to guess how the movie will end even halfway through it, so scene after scene of plot development isn't really needed. Likewise, the cameo towards the end was funny, but could have been handled in a single scene rather than dragging on to multiple events and locations.
Finally, the movie treats itself way too seriously. I don't have a problem with a "deeper" moments, or a plot where our heroes see the errors of their ways. But the last half of the movie feels like the comedy has been jettisoned in order to follow Wilson's soul-searching.
All in all, not bad, but not nearly as good as I had hoped. On the other hand, given the stars, there was a real danger that Ben Stiller would make a cameo. Fortunately, he doesn't.
Hilarious comedy!.......2007-05-25
I'm rating this movie in general, not specifically the unrated DVD version...This is a very, very funny movie! Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson make a perfect team, and the underrated Isla Fisher steals every scene she's in. The funny parts (i.e., practically the entire movie) are REALLY funny, with no ridiculous juvenile humor. Yet there are poignant moments that reveal what great friends the two guys are in this movie, whether or not they want to admit it. When one of the guys decides he doesn't want to crash weddings anymore, his buddy goes off to find another partner in crime, and his new venue is absolutely, ridiculously hilarious. Highly entertaining movie that is just as funny the 2nd time around.

Cult comic actor Steve Carell--long adored for his supporting work on The Daily Show and in movies like Bruce Almighty and Anchorman--leaps into leading man status with The 40 Year-Old Virgin. There's no point describing the plot; it's about how a 40 year-old virgin named Andy (Carell) finally finds true love and gets laid. Along the way, there are very funny scenes involving being coached by his friends, speed dating, being propositioned by his female manager, and getting his chest waxed. Carell finds both humor and humanity in Andy, and the supporting cast includes some standout comic work from Paul Rudd (Clueless, The Shape of Things) and Jane Lynch (Best in Show, A Mighty Wind), as well as an unusually straight performance from Catherine Keener (Lovely & Amazing, Being John Malkovich). And yet... something about the movie misses the mark. It skirts around the topic of male sexual anxiety, mining it for easy jokes, but never really digs into anything that would make the men in the audience actually squirm--and it's a lot less funny as a result. Nonetheless, there are many great bits, and Carell deserves the chance to shine. --Bret Fetzer

A Directorial Failure.......2007-07-01
Steve Carell can be a good actor, witness his performance in Little Miss Sunshine and he receives some great support here from Catherine Keener and Romany Malco, but somehow it just doesn't work. The idea behind the film is tenuous, and is made even more so by modeling the hero on Pee Wee Herman (grown man rides bicycle, collects action figures). Carell simply comes across as being silly.
There are some uproariously funny scenes, which justify the time worth watching the film, but like a Chinese dinner, you'll feel empty an hour later.
Funny!.......2007-06-27
This is a good laugh of a movie. You have to see it. I've watched it like a lot. You have to have a gr8 sense of humor and sillyness. Don't take it personally if you relate to the main guy. He is hilarious....
Horrible piece of you know what.......2007-06-17
Terrible terrible movie. Not funny in the least. I heard so much buzz about how this was the funniest thing ever so I made the mistake of watching this on TV. My God what a horrible movie. Not funny at all. I guess people now a days have no idea what a good comedy is.
R-rated Widescreen...Finally Available.......2007-06-15
"The 40-Year-Old Virgin" is finally available in all of its R-rated glory in widescreen format! (The original unrated DVD and R-rated full screen versions were released in December 2005, while the new R-rated widescreen wasn't available until January 2006.)
For those unfamiliar with the unrated version, it was the exclusive widescreen version available up until now, and included 17 additional minutes of "outrageous" deleted scenes that were left on the cutting room floor for good reason. The R-rated version is a comedic gem, and has finally gotten its due with this widescreen DVD release.
One of my all-time favorites!!!.......2007-06-10
This is one of the best comedies of all time!! I've watched it 25-30 times! The unrated DVD has some really great deleted scenes that are must-sees!!

Elvis Presley's seventh film was the first of his "Hawaii trilogy" (including Girls! Girls! Girls! and Paradise, Hawaiian Style). While its story is daft--the King has just been released from his Army posting in Italy and returned to the islands, where he's trying to avoid working in his father's fruit business--the music is not: "Blue Hawaii," "Almost Always True," and the beautiful "Can't Help Falling in Love." Angela Lansbury plays Elvis's mother, who can't seem to get through to him. Directed by the star's frequent collaborator, Norman Taurog (G.I. Blues). --Tom Keogh

An unlikely sisterhood plots a girl-powered revenge in John Tucker Must Die. When the class-overachiever (Arielle Kebbel, Aquamarine), the head cheerleader (Ashanti, Coach Carter), and the vegan alterna-girl (Sophia Bush, One Tree Hill) discover they're all dating the same guy--namely, star basketball player John Tucker (Jesse Metcalfe, Desperate Housewives)--they recruit a bashful new girl named Kate (Brittany Snow, The Pacifier) to become the ideal girl to break Tucker's heart. But as Kate uses the gang's combined wiles to lure Tucker, his interest gives her a social standing she's never had before...an intoxicating experience that may cost her a chance at honest love with another boy. John Tucker Must Die contrasts male and female behavior to cunning comic effect. The portrait of high school life is typically absurd, but the engaging cast, sprightly plot, and crisp dialogue will draw you in. It's a testament to the smooth guiding hand of director Betty Thomas (The Brady Bunch Movie, Private Parts) that ex-Playmate Jenny McCarthy's performance can genuinely be called understated. One of 2006's best teen comedies. --Bret Fetzer

John Tucker Must Die Rocks!!!!!.......2007-06-12

Screenwriter - Jeff Lowell DVD
John Tucker Must Die PG 13
14.95
John Tucker ( Jesse Metcalfe) is the amazing high school, superstar. All the guys want to be him and all of the girls want to date him. However, this "great" guy is cheating on three girls. Beth (Sophia Bush) the main flirt, Carrie (Arielle Kebble) the brainy girl, and Heather (Ashanti Douglas) the prep snotty cheerleader. Kate Spencer (Brittany Snow) finds out about John while working as a waitress at the restaurant he always goes to. When Kate meets the three girls, she tells them all about John's scheme. And they are definitely not going to let him off the hook. Its time for some payback to crush him. When John meets Kate, he falls in love with her. But the girls are telling her to stay strong and to never give in. Don't forget, while all of this is happening John is still going out with Beth, Carrie, and Heather. Here it comes, John breaks up with all three of them just for Kate. Now they are kicking it into over drive! But everything they did just seemed to make the girls like him even more. But one event changes everything. Even thought John and Kate have been on one date together, and didn't even say her own words but what the girls wanted her to say John still did it. John gave Kate his watch and asked her to be his girlfriend. But I can't tell you her answer. At Johns Birthday party... Just watch the movie!
I recommend this movie to girls and boys (it may be a chick flick but boys, you can learn a lesson here!) ages 12 and up. But remember this movies rating is PG 13.
This movie is my all time favorite movie ever. I just love it. It kept me laughing all night long. I have been talking about this movie nonstop ever since I have seen it. Which was three months ago. My friends are about to slap me because I wont be quite. In short, watch the movie!!!
passable for what it was.......2007-06-06
John Tucker Must Die was a surprise to me. Why? Because the movie didn't fall for the usual tricks that teenager movies normally do- immature violence, lots of dirty swear words, and sex. All those topics were surprisingly avoided and instead the writers opted to go for a much more acceptable and cleaner storyline. Did it work? Well, sort of.
I have to agree with the reviewer who mentions the similarities to Saved By The Bell. It was pretty much just like that old TV show in every way. As a young adult, I'm happy my teenage years are over and don't want to think about the past and the way I used to be back then, so for people who are also in the same boat, you probably won't find anything about the movie to really win you over. You'll just think "Oh yeah, I used to act like that" and be done with it. In other words, this movie will only be funny to a teenager, and no one else will care.
A decent movie for teenagers, but not the greatest film ever made, that's for sure.
John Tucker Must Die.......2007-05-12
Not only does this movie keep you laughing until your stomach hurts, you can not stop watching it. I have purchased this movie 3 weeks ago, and already watched it over 15 times. This movie is great, and i recommended you/ everyone to purchase and watch it.
Makin' Lemonade out of Lemons.......2007-03-17
I came away from this movie thinking - Wow, I wish I was like John Tucker! I have never seen anyone make lemonade out of lemons like that man. He was good and fine to boot. I thought it was entertaining. It was clearly more of a teenager movie, but I thought it was fun. Definitely worth a check out.
John Tucker Must Die.......2007-03-08
this is a must see movie. me and anyone else that i have asked has felt the same way. it is PG-13, and about 90 minutes long. if you like this movie, i would recommend she's the man, with amanda bynes and channing tatum. john tucker must die is a movie about how 3 girls think they have the best boyfriend, only to find that they are all dating the same guy, john tucker, star of the basketball team. then when an amazing girl comes along, they send her on a mission to break john tucker's heart, and the movie is just the journey and drama along the way. once again, it is a must-see.

Kate Hudson twinkles as the heroine of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, a magazine writer assigned to date a guy, make all the mistakes girls make that drive guys away (being clingy, talking in baby-talk, etc.), and record the process like a sociological experiment. However, the guy she picks--rangy Matthew McConaughey--is an advertising executive who's just bet that he can make a woman fall in love with him in ten days; if he succeeds, he'll win a huge account that will make his career. The set-up is completely absurd, but the collision of their efforts to woo and repel creates some pretty funny scenes. McConaughey's easy charm and Hudson's lightweight impishness play well together and the plot, though strictly Hollywood formula, chugs along efficiently. At moments Hudson seems to channel her mother, Goldie Hawn, to slightly unnerving effect. --Bret Fetzer

Splendid Fun.......2007-05-20
Really didn't LOVE this movie until I was able to watch it several times. Now, I am so happy that it is part of my collection. Kate and Matthew have a chemistry that makes for great viewing. The things that Kate does to drive Matt crazy are hilarious and, unfortunately, all to true of us at times. Worth the cost to be able to enjoy it over and over again.
One of my favorites..........2007-04-10
My husband and I laugh over and over again every time we watch this movie. It is sooo funny. Love wins over in the end and that is what I like to see!
funny...funny...funny..........2007-03-18
i loved this movie! for me, i wish i saw this years ago so i would not of scared my friends away! very entertaining movie, very hilarious! good combination between kate & matthew, i also enjoyed the soundtrack to this movie.
GREAT ACTORS! VERY FUNNY!.......2007-02-25
A VERY FUNNY MOVIE, REALLY FUNNY!! THE STORY IS NOT TOO REAL BUT THE ACTORS, KATE HUDSON AND THE TEXAN MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY ARE GREAT TOGETHER. WATCH THE MOVIE IF YOU WANT TO LAUGH.
A sweet valentine's Day treat.......2007-02-11
Both Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey are in top form in the movie. They began in false pretences and on a bet. Yet their relationship flourished in their contrasting approaches - she wanted to lose him while he wanted to keep her within 10 days. What make this movie a pleasant surprise are the sunny side of both characters and their calculating yet interesting diaglogue. Kate Hudson is wonderful in lending depth and warmth to her role with her cute smile and personable character. The script is not at all shallow and formulaic. A good treat indeed.

The bitter, vengeful world of waiting tables gets the Clerks treatment in Waiting.... A new employee (John Francis Daley, Freaks and Geeks) gets trained at Shenanigan's, a banal theme restaurant where the bored employees play a game of flaunting their genitals. The staff includes a snarky waiter (Ryan Reynolds, Van Wilder, The Amityville Horror) who lusts after the underage hostess; a waiter suffering from crippling pee-shyness (Robert Patrick Benedict, Threshold); an oracular dishwasher (Chi McBride, Roll Bounce); and a conflicted waiter named Dean (Justin Long, Dodgeball), who's just been offered a promotion to assistant manager--a job that offers more money, but threatens to trap him at Shenanigan's for the rest of his life. Waiting... is a loose shamble of a movie--the only thing resembling a story is Dean's life crisis--but that's part of its charm. It's a tricky thing to depict tedium without being tedious, but Waiting... pulls it off; some jokes smack of forced sitcom writing, but most of the humor feels genuine, as if it came from writer/director Rob McKittrick's personal experience. A future cult film. Also featuring Anna Faris (Lost in Translation), Luis Guzman (The Limey), and rabidly adored stand-up comic Dane Cook as..a cook. --Bret Fetzer
Description
A hilarious comedy about frustrated waiters, stingy tippers and dicey food, Lions Gate Films' WAITING... stars Ryan Reynolds, Anna Faris and Justin Long as young employees battling boredom at Shenanigan's, a generic chain restaurant. A waiter for four years since high school, Dean (Justin Long) has never questioned his job at Shenanigan's. But when he learns that Chett, a high school classmate, now has a lucrative career in electrical engineering, he's thrown into turmoil about his dead-end life. Dean's friend Monty (Ryan Reynolds) is in exactly the same boat, but he couldn't care less. More concerned with partying and getting laid, Monty is put in charge of training Mitch (John Francis Daley), a shy new employee. Over the course of one chaotic shift, Mitch gets to know the rest of Shenanigan's quirky staff: Monty's tough-talking ex-girlfriend, Serena (Anna Faris), Shenanigan's over-zealous manager, Dan (David Koechner), and head cook Raddimus (Luis Guzman), who's obsessed with a senseless staff-wide competition known only as "The Game"... Featuring crazy busboys, unsanitary kitchen antics, and lots of talk about sex, WAITING... is a hysterical, behind-the-scenes look at the restaurant industry, and an affectionate ode to those lost, and thoroughly unproductive, days of youth.

Another underated comedy from Ryan Reynolds.......2007-06-28
This movie is to restaurant workers as Super Troopers was to cops. A very funny movie. Much love to the goat!
WAY FUNNIER THAN I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE! .......2007-06-13
It is always a good feeling to watch a movie that you think is not going to be that good and getting more than you bargained for! This movie is pretty damn funny and I laughed out loud many times watching it. Not much plot, just low brow humor at it's best! The DVD has a great transfer and some funny extras.
this movie is hilarious.......2007-04-20
this is a really funny movie. although the guy from the mac commercials is a tool, but he is the lame dude in all the funny movies lately, he sucks, but the rest of the movie sucks. oh yeah and dane cook blows too, i wouldnt of known he was the cook if my brother didnt tell me. but besides those two cakes, the movie is really funny worth buying a cheap copy of on amazon fo shizzle
Funny as hell.........2007-04-10
this movie is hilarious. i thought it was funny as hell. it was kind of disgusting. but funny. I really can't say more than what i did. see the movie man.
It's okay, more Dane Cook please!.......2007-03-08
This was an OK comedy. It could have been way better seeing as it had the benifit of comedic genius Dane Cook and the minds that brought us Van Wilder. If you have worked at a restaurant like Fridays or Applebees, it would probably be funnier, but it missed a mark and leaves the watcher unfulfilled. It'll pass teh time though. I suggest you rent this one.

Description
Andy Stitzer (Steve Carell) has gone 40 years without "doing it." Now his pals are making it their mission to help him score... fast! Can he survive their hilariously bad advice? Will he land in the arms of the way-too-experienced or the way-too-drunk? Or can he find true love where he least expects - from a gorgeous grandmother (Catherine Keener)? When it comes to sex, there's only one sure thing - The 40-Year-Old Virgin. The outrageous comedy hit is now the DVD that makes the pleasure last forever!
Customer Reviews:

Expanding their one-joke skit from television's Saturday Night Live, Chris Kattan and Will Ferrell are Doug and Steve Butabi, the wearers of the rayon suits and Speedo trunks who bob their heads in unison to dance music while unsuccessfully preying on women in clubs. What's funny in a three-minute piece doesn't always get funnier by expansion, but Kattan and Ferrell give it a go with fellow SNL member Molly Shannon as their ambitious neighbor. By day they work in their father's fake-plant store. By night they prowl the club scene after spraying on the cologne in their gauchely decorated bedroom. A fender-bender with Richard Grieco (playing himself) gets them into the popular club the Roxbury, but it's not all good news, as the brothers soon find themselves torn apart. Doug and Steve are pathetic but lovable, mostly due to the actors' talents for self-deprecating humor. All gifted comedians, Kattan, Ferrell, and Shannon obviously feel comfortable around each other, and their love triangle (which prompts send-ups of Say Anything and Jerry Maguire) is the funniest joke in this mostly lame comedy. Too bad, because it clocks in at about 80 minutes and could have run on television as a pretty good episode of SNL, which has been known to get a bit lame itself. --Shannon Gee

I say it was good..........2007-06-14
but I think will ferrel and chris kattan were alot funnier on SNL which use to be funny back then. The music sucked in this movie (I heard the soundtrack) and some of the jokes were just stupid and some were pretty funny like one of the stupid jokes where steve (will ferrel) imitates an ambulance sound before having sex with one of the hookers he met at the club that was stupid. Well I give it a 3 out of 5 stars for not sucking so bad but it's not my type of movie anymore.
HILARIOUS!!!!.......2007-02-14
It's even funnier the fourth time you see it!!! Its nice to go back every once in a while and see how Kattan & Ferrell got there start:)
shipment fine.......2007-01-10
My order arrived just as specified. Item was in advertised condition and was just what I was looking for.
Good for a few laughs.......2007-01-07
If you a fan of Will Ferrell then you're sure to enjoy this!! Taking from a skit on SNL and is just hilarious I think!
hillarious.......2006-12-29
Omg. where can I start, this movie was released years ago, I think about 97', funniest movie ever. Regardless of your age, you will find this movie to be entertaining. At the time my brother and his best friend used to go clubbing all the time and looked and acted just like the butabis. The whole black shirt and bright silver necklace was the thing to wear to clubs at the time.. You wont regret getting it.
....by the way... EMILIOOOO..
