If you were a kid in the early 1960s, then you saw The Parent Trap with Hayley Mills--it's as simple as that. Best of the Remakes.......2007-07-02

Lindsay Lohan made her first appearance in this latest remake of the Disney classic based on the German children's book. Two girls meet at summer camp. Other than their styles, they look exactly the same. When their hatred of each other forces them to be isolated together they learn the truth. They are sisters. Their parents split up and each took one of the twins and never mentioned the other. Wanting to see their other parent, the girls switch places. When the parents find out about the switch they will have to get together to make an exchange of siblings.

But there is a snag. The father is about to get remarried. Now everything has to be sped up if there is any hope of getting the parents back together again. Revelations and madcap hijinks make up the rest of the film as the twins do everything in their power to stop the wedding and reunite their parents.

Much better than the Olsen Twin remake. While much of the story is very close to the original, it has been properly updated. The parents were a shipboard romance that failed. Newer technology has Lohan beside herself even more than Hayley Mills was. The rest of the cast is excellent and Quaid (the father) really shows he is a better actor than he is usually given credit for. Even the extras are entertaining. A fun documentary about making Lindsay twins and an extra scene involving the Queen of England. Fun for the whole family. Check it out.

Family Fun.......2007-06-08

As with the original version of this movie with Hayley Mills, this is a nice movie despite the premise being so horribly ridiculous. What nice divorcing parents would separate their twins, each take custody of one and never mention or attempt to see the other for 12 years? I did thoroughly enjoy Dennis Quaid and Natasha Richardson in their roles. There were several differences between this movie and the 1961 version, actually enough to make this enjoyable. I didn't feel like I was watching different actors play the parts and recite the lines of the same characters from that movie.

I vaguely remember the 1961 version of The Parent Trap. I say vaguely because that version of the movie was apparently as equally compelling as the 1998 version...which isn't that compelling. But...my kids enjoyed it thoroughly.

The movie takes place way before Lindsay Lohan's pics could be spotted...or should I say pics of Lindsay's privates could be spotted...all over the Internet. Lindsay plays (both) twins separated at birth by their divorcing parents. When the twins meet up by chance 10 or so years later they come up with a diabolical plan to reunite their parents.

Anyone not familiar enough with the story has been under a rock...perhaps since 1961. Anyone that missed the movie deliberately because it sounds too cutesy and far-fetched has done himself or herself a favor. This is a movie for kids. Adults will be more entertained watching their kids interpret the themes in the movie.

So if you're over the age of 14 and you've somehow found yourself contemplating The Parent Trap as the next movie that you just have to see among all of the other available titles...I would say that life under that rock has taken its toll on you in a most severe way.

If you're looking for a decent movie for your age 6 - 14 year old(s)...this could be the one if your kids can handle a couple of smooches (no...none by Lindsay...Dennis Quaid gets a few kisses from Elaine Hendrix and Natasha Richardson). Oh, and I would be remiss not to warn, I'm not sure that the Speedo that Simon Kunz appears in for a brief scene is suitable for viewing by anyone!

I was impressed to be able to watch the movie which I watched again in old days. I was sorry that there were not Japanese subtitles.If there are some@Thisney movies which I watched in childhood else and finds them, I want to try to buy it again.

Very good Movies.......2007-04-19

I Love the Parent Trap movies. For people who have never seen these movies, you have know idea what you have been missing. The Parent Trap movies start with Hayley Mills who I Love. Hayley plays twin sisters who are seprated at a very young age because their parents get a divorce only to meet for the first time when they are both sent to the same camp for the summer. There, after they discover that they are twins, they come up with the plain to get their parents back together by switching places so the parents after meet face to face to switch them back.
Partent trap II is about Sharon and Susan again played by Hayley Mills, are now grown up with families of their own. you will have to see it to find out what happens. i love this movie the best.

The Parent Trap 1 and 2.......2007-04-13

Excellent family entertainment. Of course I have watched them both already but had to have them for my collection. I have seen the newer Parent Trap 1 with Dennis Quiad, it's good but doesn't compare to the original with Hayley Mills. Simply wonderful for the entire family.

OLD FAVORITE DISNEY GREAT CAST!.......2007-04-12

This has always been one of my favorite Disney live action films. Haley Mills does a good job with her double duty and O'Hara and Keith are excellent as always. The Vault Collection version is a worthy puchase, sure they could have cleaned up the print more,but it looks pretty good and there are lots of extras. Disney has been guilty of not doing there films justice anyway. Other than a few of the animated gems, they have release sub par fullscreen and dirty prints for years.

Comparative Review Original to Newer Double Trouble Version.......2006-12-28

Have seen both versions of Parent Trap and both are excellent. For a first time viewer would recommend the newer 1998 Double Trouble version for first viewing with the original also recommended for second viewing. First because as an adult watching both movies I found the tension between the parents more interesting and believable in the Double Trouble version and second because the print quality of the newer Double Trouble version is/was superior to the vault version of the original. The contrast of print quality is striking because Disney restored the vault version of Pollyanna also starring Hayley Mills and it looks brand new with sharp images, excellent color and a print that is not faded at all whereas the vault version of the original Parent Trap does not have as sharp images, has darkened slightly and the color while good is clearly not of the same quality as the restored Pollyanna vault version. The acting in both Parent Trap versions is excellent including both Hayley Mills and Lindsay Lohan. So would recommend Double Trouble version for first viewing and if you get hooked as I did going for the original version second. The Vault version is loaded with extras, so for me I am glad to have both versions.

Hate to Say It - But Liked the New One Much Better.......2006-11-04

I know that I'm going against the grain here after having read all of the 5 star reviews, but I just recently re-watched the original from the beginning after many, many years. What is amazing to me is how many vices are present in this movie. We always seem to refer to the 50's and 60's as the innocent years, but I was surprised to see the 'smoking' grandfather, the 'drinking' minister and the amount of yelling and screaming that went on between Mitch and Maggie. What I found the most disturbing was the face slap by Vickie at the end of the movie. You really don't see any of these things in the newer version and for my childen's sake, I'm glad. I have always liked both Hayley Mills and Maureen O'Hara and they are really terrific in this movie. Brian Keith is his usual self - I've never been very impressed with his acting abilities. Overall, I'm a much bigger Dennis Quaid fan and thought he played the part of the father very well - a much more touching version.

One thing that I did discover, which I thought was very clever on Disney's part was casting Joanna Barnes, who plays Vicky in the original, as Vicky Blake, Meredith's mother in the remake. Her use of the word 'pet' in both movies is what made me think it might be the same actress and sure enough, it is! Maybe everyone else realized this, but I did not. Bravo Disney.

I still think this is a classic Disney movie, but after having seen both of them recently again, my vote is for the newer version.

I Probably watched this movie over 100 times. The new one with Lindsey Lohan was nice, but the old one is an original and more relaxing. Hayley Mills was great!

The story is about 2 girls who meet at summer-camp and are always fighting, because they look like each other--- or something like that. When they find out that they have the same parents and are sisters, one wants to meet her dad and one wants to meet her mother. As they do this, one of the parents have to unswitch them and they will have to meet.

I think this is a very fun movie and I never get tired of it.

This is another of those Disney movies that so endeared the company to the families of america. Good fun for the family.

I recieved this CD for Hannukah and it's just so enjoyable! If you liked the movie, you'll like the CD, every time I listen to it, whether I know which scene it is or not, it brings the cute movie into my head! Tracks 7 and 8, Soulful Stut, and Never Let You Go, are my alltime favorites, not only in this CD, but in my whole collection of CDs. I don't think the songs would get very old unless you played it practically every day. I reccomend this CD, it's one of my favorite soundtracks!

Parent Trap soundtrack.......2006-08-17

I thoroughly enjoyed the CD. It arrived very quickly. There are a few songs on the soundtrack that I don't remember from the movie, but still enjoyable. The songs are a combination of instrumental and singing; two songs are performed by singers I had not heard of before. All the others were recognizable and appreciated. "Here Comes The Sun" while not sung by the BeeGees is still performed well and very enjoyable. Only someone very familiar with the original version would be able to tell. It took a few repeats before I was able to appreciate "Top of the World" being sung in a French/Japanese accent (still can't tell which). You have to let go of your previous ideas of the way this song was sung. The instrumental theme to Parent Trap as well as the original song "Let's Get Together" is fun. I've only had the soundtrack for 2 weeks and I've already listened to it in the car over 20 times.

Funny and Heartwarming.......2006-03-13

This movie is a remake of the original one (1961) starring Hayley Mills.

This movie is decidedly more modern and Lindsay Lohan gives a glorious performance- as both Halley and Annie.

However, the plot is a tad less realistic. It's believable that the owner of a California vineyard would send his kid to the summer camp, would a London designer send her daughter to a summer camp in another country?

I don't think so.

The pranks the two play on each other are less mischievious than that of the original, but the ones played upon Meredith Blake are much more!

The story begins when Halley Parker from Napa, CA meets Annie James from London, U.K. at a summer camp. The two become rivals and play pranks upon the other, until the camp director snaps and has both put in an isolated cabin- together.

Remarkably, Halley and Annie are mirror images of each other, as well as share the same birthday. They are allergic to the same foods and Halley has only a dad and Annie only a mother and only a picture of the other parent. When they show the other their other parent, they recognize them and find out they're twins.

The plan then becomes to switch places and get their parents back together.

The plan moves into action even faster when Dad Dennis Quiad announces his engagement to gold-digger Meredith Blake (not the actress's real name.)

A nice little collection.......2006-02-12

This CD being the first one I ever bought, I always remember the tracks that accompany this soundtrack to the wonderful film. "Love" is a sweet and sincere opening for the soundtrack, along with other classics "Do You Believe in Magic" and "This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)" (a song everyone hears these days on the popular E-Harmony commercials). Shonen Knife's cover of The Carpenters' "Top of the World" is one of the highlights of the soundtrack along with Alan Silvestri's "Parent Trap Suite" which is quite lovely to listen to. Hopeful tunes including the harmonous "Never Let You Go" by Jakaranda and the acoustic sentimental "Here Comes The Sun" provide plenty of sunshine to all listeners. Perhaps the only song that I could deal without is the cover of "Let's Get Together" by the girl group Nobody's Angel. Hayley Mills' version of the song from the original film is much better; even the snippet we heard Lindsay Lohan sing while waiting at the elevator in this film could've made the CD better!
Overall, the film is great and so is the soundtrack.

Classy and Enjoyable.......2005-08-06

The movie was cute, but the music was absolutely GREAT! Although some may complain about the 'missing' song, no big deal, you're still in for a treat if you buy the soundtrack. The songs are simply fun and happy, and make you want to get up and dance. The next time you are depressed, turn on the CD and let your misery wither away.

this is one of the best package deals i've ever seen. every one of these movies brings back wonderful memories of my childhood! swiss family... is one of the best pirate movies and i just love hailey mills! old yeller is such a classic. it will always have a special place in my collection.

More Junk From Disney DVD.......2004-06-21

This is definitely not a reflection on the quality of the movies included in this set. "The Parent Trap" is a classic, as are the other three included here.

No, the word "junk" refers to the quality of DVD's included in this set. I had to return my first set, because the case was broken on "Old Yeller". No big deal. But then...the secondary disc on "The Parent Trap" skipped and stalled, and "Swiss Family Robinson" wouldn't even load.

Having had terrible experience with Disney DVD's previously ("The Great Locomotive Chase"), I opted for a refund instead of dealing with the frustrations of another set that was defective.

Frankly, Disney's products seem to have so many problems, I doubt I will ever buy another one. Many of their movies are in the wrong ratio, some are terrible transfers ("Old Yeller" in particular, and also the Chinatown scene in "The Love Bug" comes to mind), and now I've had this set and "The Great Locomotive Chase" which have had "playability" issues.

Based on a book by Erich Kästner, twins Hallie Parker/Annie James (Lindsay Lohan) separated at birth try to get their original parents back together.

This is cute and the people are more contemporary. However the remake lost many things in the translation. I like both Dennis Quaid "Undercover Blues" (1993) and Natasha Richardson but they just don't have the same interaction needed to pull it off. The tone is condescending.

Yes when you get a second chance you can improve on a good thing. However improve does not mean just use the title. Still if we don't compare, then all and all this is worth watching.

DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE...DOUBLE YOUR FUN..........2006-07-17

I saw this re-make most reluctantly. After all, I thought, how could it compare to the original blockbuster hit of the same name, which starred the adorable British actress, Hayley Mills? Well, to my complete surprise, this film is a winner in its own right. Reprising the dual roles played by Hayley Mills, a young Lindsay Lohan, in her silver screen debut, is surprisingly effective and adorable, making the dual roles her own.

For those of you unfamiliar with the premise of the film, two girls, Hallie Parker and Annie James (Lindsay Lohan), meet at summer camp. They look exactly alike. One lives with her father, while the other lives with her mother. They soon figure out the previously unknown but inescapable fact that they are twins, separated shortly after birth, each of whom lives with one of their biological parents. They both long to know the parent that is missing from their respective lives. So, they concoct a plan that will allow them to do so, leading to a scheme to reunite their estranged parents. They simply switch places, when it comes time to return home. Their reunion scheme is almost derailed, however, when their biological father seems to have romantic designs on someone else.

This comedic caper focuses on the intrigues of the twins as they try to get the potential usurper out of their father's life and re-unite their parents. Lindsay Lohan is simply terrific in the dual roles of Hallie and Annie, infusing a great deal of charm and personality into her portrayal of the twins. Natasha Richardson is wonderful in the role of the mother, Elizabeth James. While she lacks the feistiness of Maureen O'Hara, who originally played the role, Ms. Richardson manages to make the role her own with her low-key charm. Dennis Quaid is terrific as Nick Parker, the handsome, hunky father, who is the besotted prey of a gold digging, scheming, statuesque blonde (Elaine Hendrix). I actually like his performance better than that of Brian Keith, who played this role in the original.

Blonde bombshell Elaine Hendrix is effective as Meredith Blake, the potential wicked step-mother, who quickly sees her own scheme to marry a wealthy husband go up in flames as the twins plot against her. Lisa Ann Walter is simply wonderful as Nick Parker's good-hearted housekeeper, infusing the role with a rich warmth. Simon Kunz is very funny in the role of Martin, the James' butler, creating a memorable character, and Ronnie Stevens is perfectly cast as the maternal grandfather, Charles James.

As to whether or not their mother and father will be re-united, as the twins so desire, watch this film and find out. Although Lindsay Lohan does not sing the popular signature song, "Let's Get Together", which Hayley Mills sang in the original film, the viewer will not be disappointed by this re-make. Disney Studios, which is the studio responsible for both the original and the re-make, has created a terrific little comedic gem in its own right with this film.
