4 out of 5 stars home room.......2007-01-06

like that it show the aftermath of the shooting and how the studtens deal with the shock and drama of the events that have unfoleded.

5 out of 5 stars Everyone has a story . . ........2006-03-06

Of the 1200+ movies I've watched in the last two years dealing with children or teens, this one has to come somewhere in the top ten. We've had over 150 kids stay with us for varying lengths of time, and this movie reminded me of a discipline technique we used. If two kids were fighting, we'd put them on chairs with their knees a few inches apart. Then, they had to sit there and talk nicely to each other for a specified time. No matter how angry they were to start, in the end they'd be laughing and getting along.

Alica and Deanna were put in a similar situation. Both girls were hurting inside, one from the effects of the classroom shooting and the other from another psychologically tragic event. This movie is about how each girl had to first start to trust the other, then grow to understand each other. Of course, at first much is left hidden inside, but gradually they begin to talk and each begins to understand how the other is hurting. The more the viewer learns, the more he or she begins to care for even Alica, who escapes in a "Goth" world that alienates more typical teens.

As the two girls slowly reveal more and more of their stories, stories of hurting, they begin to heal. However, it is a very painful process, with many setbacks and misunderstandings along the way. But, that is the way emotional healing is. This is a very realistic cinematic depiction of psychological healing.

Finally, it is very refreshing to see a teen, Deanna, concerned with her character and values. For families concerned with traditional values, this is one of the best examples of that I've seen in a teen movie. Although curious about sex, Deanna still felt it was worthwhile to protect her virginity. The movie is rated R mostly for the language, but Deanna even called Alicia on that. She let Alicia know that she didn't not approve of the foul language or 'taking the Lord's name in vain." However, she was not perfect in this either - when she thought the detective had emotionally hurt Alicia she cussed a bit. Also, when Alicia, more because she was a rebel than a lesbian, kissed Deanna, Deanna recoiled in revulsion. Again, she showed concern for her reputation and traditional morality.

If you genuinely care about people as they are and not how you want them to be, what one would call empathy, then this is 131 minutes of very well-spent time.

4 out of 5 stars great movie!!.......2006-02-26

I caught this movie on OnDemand thanks to my sis and I watched it and LOVED it!!! I am not a huge fan of erika christensen . . . but she does a decent job in this movie. It has some "unexpected" plot lines and I ended up crying in the end!
I bought it because i liked it so much!!

5 out of 5 stars Incredible chemistry between the two actresses!.......2006-01-09

Alicia and Deanna have the same homeroom and it seems probably did nothing more than exchange glances every morning. Alicia(the goth girl) knew nothing about Deanna but she was one of these beautiful, rich, intelligent white girls that all of the teachers adored! Deanna knew nothing about Alicia but she was "in a world to herself" and she respected that. I will point out from a personal observation that Alicia has some of the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen!

Alicia goes to Deaana's hospital room to make their principal happy....they hardly do anything but exchange pleasantries.

Yet, Alicia keeps coming back day-after-day to this room. Alicia persuades Deanna to go outside for walks, talk about life and to quit feeling sorry for herself over the shootings.

To me, the most "moving" scene is when Alicia has spent the night with Alicia in her room. Deanna takes the remote from Alicia's hand and then opens her fingerless gloves to try one on after being told "no". The looks of both girls(without the other one knowing about the other) is incredible yet not a single word is ever said between them during this scene.

The "survivors" of the homeroom shooting come together several months later for "closure". Alicia's performance in here(which changes the lives of everyone in there forever) could have easily won her an Oscar!

To answer a previous post, I think Alicia cries at the end after receiving her diploma because nobody in the whole world(including herself) ever thought she could have done it!

5 out of 5 stars Astonishingly Good.......2005-10-11

"Home Room" like "Zero Day" and "Elephant", was inspired by the recent wave of school shootings. But unlike the other two films, "Home Room" focuses on two survivors (not the shooters or those killed) in the aftermath of a shooting. Making it less exploitive and more useful because little effort is wasted in asking questions for which there are no answers.

Don't give up on this little film during the first 20 minutes, it is supposed to set up the real story but plays like a rejected "Hill Street Blues" episode. It is lame but bear with it, at least it pads the running length enough to get the film classified as a feature. I recommend skipping this entirely and just jumping ahead to the hospital scenes-there is nothing here that you can't pick up from the remainder of the film.

Like a lot of good little films this was creatively a one-man show as Paul F. Ryan was both the writer and the director. While this arrangement does not guarantee a good film, it is usually a good sign because it will mean a certain unity of construction and execution that is often lacking in big budget dramatic features. Because the script of "Home Room" is its real strength it is fortunate that the writer also executed the production and insured that his vision made it onto the screen.

Ryan takes a huge chance with an ending that tests the limits of the average viewer's sentimentality tolerance. He runs it right up to the edge but against all logic leaves you crying instead of cringing. Why the ending works is some combination of the audience need for a reward at the end of this kind of journey, the song (Sarah McLaughlin's "Sweet Surrender") he goes out on, and the amazing editing of the final few seconds.

The other strength of the film is the casting of Busy Phillips (Alicia) and Erika Christensen (Deanna) as the main protagonists. Although Phillips plays her standard alienated surly teen and Christensen her intelligent daughter of a good family, they both bring more intensity to their roles than ever before. The family life of both girls is more than satisfactory and of little interest to Ryan. What is happening here is all about the two of them despite a lame side story about a police detective wondering around town trying to tie Alicia to the lone shooter. If they ever re-cut and trim the film this side story should be condensed.

A story about two extremely disparate girls bonding and helping each other is hardly a novel idea and Ryan could have easily steered this film into cliché and predictability. But instead his script has them engaging in a fascinating and convincing sparring match, slowly chipping away at each other and sharing moments of vulnerability, only to retreat back inside themselves. Deanna's "I'm dying inside" line just tears you apart-I can't think of a moment in any other film that I felt as intensely as that one. She desperately needs a connection that Alicia just as desperately resists. Deanna only makes progress when she retreats. The viewer keeps expecting the group hug that never seems to happen.

Ultimately this not only generates a lot of suspense but leaves you admiring both characters and the two actresses who brought them to life.

Then again, what do I know? I'm only a child.

It makes sorrowful sense that a 1999 revision (albeit unofficial) of John Hughes's The Breakfast Club would involve guns on a high school campus, a children's crusade fought on the Internet, a handful of adolescents imprisoned by their fight-or-flight reputations in the inner city, and... oh yes, Judd Nelson. Nelson, who played the heavy-metal lout from a violent home in The Breakfast Club, shows up here as a hip history instructor named Knowles, so committed to his students in deplorable classroom circumstances that he leads them to friendlier digs off-campus and is suspended for his efforts.

Already outraged about an earlier run-in with a high-strung security guard (Forest Whitaker)--who later pulls a gun on the most harmless kid at school--young Lester (Usher Raymond) wounds the guard, leads a takeover of the building, and oversees authorship of an online manifesto explaining his actions. While supporters, detractors, and cops jockey for position outside, Lester and his fellow rebels, a perfect mix of teenage archetypes who normally would have little to do with one another, unburden their souls. The Hughes Effect kicks in as Lester reveals that his decent father was killed by racist cops, that a Sal Mineo-type (Robert Richards) is beaten at home, that a pregnant girl (Sara Gilbert) wasn't even kissed by the creep she slept with, etc. Writer-director Craig Bolotin, unlike Hughes, can't persuade us to overlook the convenient symmetries and complementary struggles among his outcasts. Everything begins to feel forced after awhile, heading toward a prefabricated finish, though Bolotin's good intentions are not without some emotional impact. --Tom Keogh

Description

In his dazzling leading-role debut, Usher Raymond (Billboard's "Star Of The Year") plays Lester, the troubled teen who has finally been pushed to his limit. Taking matters into their own hands, Lester and his friends hold a police officer (Forest Whitaker) hostage and barricade themselves inside the school. Negotiator Audrey McDonald (Vanessa L. Williams) struggles to maintain peace while tensions simmer inside. As the crisis builds, "The Lincoln Six" discover talents they didn't know they had as their fight to expose dismal classroom conditions gains national attention. Starring "a cast of gifted newcomers" (Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times), this powerful and uplifting film lit up audiences around the nation.

5 out of 5 stars A Must See Movie.......2007-02-09

Usher was very good in this movie. This movie shows that even kids have a voice and want to be heard. i really enjoy watching it and i would recommend anyone who likes movies to get this.

5 out of 5 stars Great. Just Great........2006-02-03

Well, usually I'm not into movies like this. My DVD collection consist of fantasy, comedy, and a little bit of horror. However, this one I just happened to see on tv. It was a instant hit with me. It speaks the truth, and the die hard facts behind it all. It shows you to respect your fellow man, and not just jump to conclusions. It doesn't matter if your black or not, you will feel for this movie. I ain't black, and I did. Acting is great as well.

And I just wanted to note, whoever it was that gave it 1 star seems to be a minor that just likes writing bad reviews. Do notice that all the other reviews are good.

5 out of 5 stars "The Negotiator" with a meaning.......2005-10-21

This is really a great movie, because sometimes we all just want to take a stand, no matter what we have to do, legal or illegal. It even blends a little bit of comedy with the drama. Those kids were stuck inside that highschool that had little heating the classrooms were like icebergs. Usher is a great actor. This is definitely worth watching.

5 out of 5 stars Actually worthy of 10 stars!!.......2005-10-12

This is a must see for anyone who works with or has any dealings with young people. It will help you remember not to judge a book by the cover. To help our young people become all they were created to be, we need to start showing them that we believe in them and know they have what it takes to be successful adults. If you see a young person who seems to be hurting, reach out to him or her. You'd be amazed at what a smile or a hug can do for someone who feels noone cares.

5 out of 5 stars Good movie.......2005-03-07

It was actually EXCELLENT. It has my man Usher in it incl. the whole cast Rosario Dawson, Vanessa Williams, Forest Whitaker, Sara Gilbert, Fredro Starr (he's bad), the whole list goes on and on.

I was laughin' to death when a lot of craziness goin' on inside the movies from the guns poppin, the police chasin', a lotta people gettin' out of the school 'cuz of emergency, lot of mad talkin and fussin' goin on and all that other s**t. Y'know what I mean. Anyway the list goes on and on.

This is similar to those that don't like gangsta rap nor hip-hop/rap, mainstream music, soundtracks, gangsta movies, or whatever it is, it doesn't matter. I believe it's telling us to watch out 'cuz a lotta people are watching us.

For fans that love Menace II Society, Lean on Me, Stand and Deliver, Dangerous Minds, Jason's Lyric, Above the Rim, Boyz in the Hood, The Temptations, the TV show CHEATERS or JERRY SPRINGER (which I watched to this day), New Jack City, Malcolm X, etc. must check it out 'cuz it shoulda won a Academy Award.

Congrats for Usher for making a good film. He should deserve it.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding Value.......2007-03-09

Of course, everyone (?) knows the reputation of the Great Train Robbery. But the rest of the package contains some gems. Surprising DW Griffith Western, in "Battle...," in the sense that the cavalry does NOT arrive in the nick of time for most of the townspeople, though the stars are saved. The Tom Mix feature is really funny, showing a character who is quite anti-heroic, by Classic Western standards. But the real gem is William S. Hart's Tumbleweeds, which stages an incredible Oklahoma land run, and a stunning ride by 55-year-old Hart.

5 out of 5 stars The Great Tarin Robbery.......2007-03-08

A classic of the start of motion pictures by Thomas Edison that has stould the test of time.

5 out of 5 stars The first American Movie.......2005-01-24

Its hard to believe but this film was made more than 100 hundred years ago,it has to be considered to be a technical step forward for its time. The plot is basicilly a train robbery. It is also the first western. This was a stepping stone for what movies could be, D.W Griffth pushed even farther with the first epic with a Birth Of A Nation.

5 out of 5 stars Superb quality and great value.......2004-02-01

Wasn't to sure what to expect quality wise but on viewing was absolutely delighted.
The DVD features four silent westerns (all classics) with excellent picture quality and suitable accompanying music with orchestra.
Tumbleweeds is the 1939 reissue and has W S HART speaking of his love of the west.
Battle of Elderbush Gulch is an exciting story by D W Griffith.
Heart of Texas Ryan stars Tom Mix.
Two versions of the title film are included.
All the films have short intros, history and bios.

If you love silent films grab it while you can !

1 out of 5 stars If depression is your gig, this is your DVD.......2007-06-23

LULU ON THE BRIDGE (1998), is a movie whose goal was of being
different from anything else that's been made, as a story, or movie,
perhaps by people in the business who have seen 1,000's of works
over their lifetimes.

The music most often played throughout, is a lot like Bartok's
String Quartets, meaning that, for anyone having heard those, can
imagine the mood of this work, that is anti-entertainment, bringing
depression and tragedy to the audience.

Harvey Keitel, Willen DaFoe, Mira Sorvino, Gina Gershon are the
stars of this work. Keitel is splendid in his role, in this tale of
a musician who is a victim of a senseless shooting in a tavern,
slipping into unconciousness, and then into a nightmare as his blood
pressure drops from the wound. The initial thoughts of the victim,
is of fearing to lose his ability to capitalize on his fantastic
musical talents following the shooting incident, going to deeper,
more moral aspects.

For a tragedy, Sorvino is a not a bad choice, considering her
natural penchant for a sad, modest, shy, passive, at times childish
introverted image or projected personality. Some may feel this
acting is an acquired taste, like watching paint dry.

For DaFoe, a phenomenally talented actor, the script is the real
tragedy, as he goes into a 7 minute churlish monolog, with Keitel
obediently listening, and responding here and there, to the spiffy
litany of spewed words, from this spiritual guide in the other
world, deciding on the ultimate destiny for Keitel's soul that's in
limbo as he's driven to the hospital in an ambulance.

The story's targeted audience are the urban dwellers of mega-cities,
who can relate to the movie's setting, and modern conveniences (VCR,
TV, hyper-populated streets, restaurants), as well as the
spontaneous, shallow or rushed sexual rapports that tend to develop
between total strangers, under bizarre pretexts, in this case, a gem
or rock that glows in the dark found on a murder victim in the
street.

Keitel's goal, is to adapt more to the fatuous drivel often seen on
sitcoms, to take on that style a bit, vs his admitted hot tempered,
undiplomatic, physical, tough guy confrontational approach that
surfaces in situations of injustice, etc. Admittedly, he tells
DaFoe, he finds difficulty perceiving, sensing and enjoying all the
small pleasures, artistic aspects, amusements that life has to
offer, limiting himself to work and sex, not being fully aware of
his own feelings, as he says.

There's some attempts at scatological humor, such as an airplane
gag, or the opener, with " I couldn't have arrived on stage any
sooner, or my d*ck would be hanging out".

Incidentally, there's a portuguese fado number playing in the
background at a cafe, probably by Mariza, with typical "viola"
guitar accompanying, that is a good choice, considering the
melancholy that's typical of that music style.

If depression is your gig, this is your DVD.

3 out of 5 stars Classic Harvey Keitel as well as a different side - however storyline has its flaws.......2007-01-07

Harvey Keitel is one of those actors who might not have a ten million dollar leading role, but he is an actor that has built up a large following. One reason for Keitel's popularity is because he has often been stereotyped as a either a thug or gruff type of character - and has been able to pull off the role very well. However Keitel has proven he is a very versatile actor and has proven this with a very nice portfolio of work over the past two decades. Keitel proves his versatility in what was an unnoticed film in 1998 called "Lulu on the Bridge". Despite some holes in the storyline, Keitel delivers a very solid performance and one that should keep his fans happy. "Lulu on the Bridge" is a modern day romance story with a touch of fantasy added in. While the movie itself will entertain you, I did feel that this movie could have even been better.

In "Lulu on the Bridge", Keitel plays Isaac "Izzy" Maurer. Maurer is a jazz saxophonist in a little-known club band called Katmandu. While not a criminal, we get a picture throughout the movie that Maurer has led anything but a saintly life. While playing a performance at a New York City club, a madman sniper comes into the club and starts firing his gun. In the chaos, Maurer is struck by sniper's bullet. He suffers a major injury and loses a lung as a result of the shooting. The loss of the lung ends the career that Maurer cherished - his musical career. Maurer tries to adjust to life after music, but finds himself going the loner route. In an effort to keep Maurer from being lonely, Maurer's ex-wife Hannah (played by Gina Gershon) and her boyfriend, filmmaker Phillip Kleinman (played by Mandy Pantakin) befriend him. However, Izzy still seems destined for a lonely life. That all changes when one night while walking home, he stumbles on the body of a murdered man named Stanley Mar. On Mar, Maurer finds a napkin with a telephone number scribbled on it and a box containing a mysterious stone. Maurer soon discovers the stone has magical properties. When he dials the phone number on the napkin, this turns out to be the phone number of a much younger woman named Celia Burns (played by Mira Sorvino). Celiat is a struggling actress who also moonlights as a waitress. Maurer goes to Burns' apartment and has a rocky meeting with her. Maurer then shows Celia the stone and its magical properties. An "aura" of good seems to transform the two of them - and in particular Maurer. This leads to an immediate "connect" between the two and they quickly become lovers. Maurer becomes very happy in his relationship with Maurer and begins to see a side to himself he hadn't seen before. However things change when an anthropologist named Dr. Van Horn (played Willem Dafoe) wants to get possession of the stone. While Celia is out of town shooting a movie, Van Horn hunts down and captures Maurer. While Van Horn wants to get possession of the stone, Maurer does everything to protect Celia who is in possession of the stone.

There a lot of positives with this movie. To start with, the performances by Keitel, Sorvino, and Dafoe are outstanding. In particular, Keitel's performance is the one that stands out. Keitel does a great job at showing his stereotypical gruff character when showing the "old Izzy". However, we also see Keitel do a great job with his softer side. I liked how Keitel showed the kinder and gentler Izzy - and he really showed a genuine love toward Celia as the movie went out. There is one scene where Izzy has a "relapse" to his older side. This happens while Izzy is working as a busboy in the restaurant where Celia works in - it's classic Harvey Keitel. Sorvino is radiant throughout the whole movie. Cast as the villain, Dafoe does a great job. The scenes in which Van Horn "interrogates" Maurer are terrific. The part where Dafoe does his own rendition of "Singing in the Rain" is definitely a scene stealer.

Overall, this was a very good romance story. However, there are some things that could have been done better. I thought the beginning of the movie needed to do a better job at establishing Maurer's "bad side". We really don't pick up on this until we are into the meat of the storyline. I did like the whole idea of the fantasy angle involving the magic stone. However, the "instantaneous love" between Maurer and Celia almost happens too fast for my liking. I really feel the movie could have benefited a lot more from showing how the romance grows and blossoms between Izzy and Maurer. The other weak point is the character of Dr. Van Horn isn't developed very well either. We don't get a lot of information on why Van Horn is obsessed with getting the stone - and how he knows so much about Izzy Maurer.

I also really liked the ending of this movie. This is one of these films where it's going to be very difficult to pick things up in the middle of the story. You need to watch this movie from start to finish. I found the ending to have a great twist - and best of all was that it wasn't predictable. While there were holes in the storyline, I'm still surprised that this movie didn't garner more attention - in particular for Sorvino and Keitel. The Sorvino-Keitel chemistry was very evident in this movie. I would love to see these two paired up in another movie someday. It is worth checking out Keitel's performance in this one - even though it isn't quite his stereoypical role. As for the movie - in an era where Hollywood is flooded with remakes and un-original storylines, this is one original movie worth checking out.

2 out of 5 stars Please..........2003-12-16

Although this movie has going for it Harvey Keitel as well as an interesting mystery stone, overall it is pure arthouse garbage. Yes, I like enigmatic, intricate movies. Yes I can suspend my disbelief. Yes I like it when movies enter a realm where reality as we know it loses ground. But this story is a mish mash. See Donnie Darko or even, as suggested by other reviewers, Jacob's Ladder for better made, well-constructed films that touch on the same subjects.

Only about 10 minutes of this flick retained my attention. The rest was at best a yawn and for the most part, a frustrating eye-roller. Mostly wooden performances (Keitel is his usual bad self, DaFoe is more than adequate) but the story is just cheesy and it has one of the worst endings I have ever seen. I almost threw up.

4 out of 5 stars Lulu is a bridge.......2003-11-19

I've seen this movie twice on cable, Stars or Encore. Maybe HBO. It's a sweet little thing about love unconditional. I like that Lou Reed has a role, Not Lou Reed. Would buy this DVD just to see him on screen (Lou Reed rocks!). The film was good, but best was it introduced me to Pandora's Box, a play and then silent film starring Louise Brooks as Lulu. The play and movie are classics; Brooksie, was a classic beauty. She embodies everything that was the Jazz Age flapper.

5 out of 5 stars Aphrodite, metaphysics, and illusion.......2003-10-27

What is the story about? Jazz saxaphonist, Izzy, is performing with his band and is shot(whether intentionally or accidentally is not clear) by what seems like a crazed man. There is no police follow-up. Obviously this is not important to the theses in the film.
Izzy recovers though he has lost one lung and no longer has the wind power to play the sax, and has lost the use of his right hand fingers, so he cannot key the sax. Am I supposed to think he's a man without an identity? After recovering, Izzy is walking home on a dimly lighted street and comes upon a man with a bullet hole in his forehead, a leather briefcase beside him. Again no mention is ever made of this murder as far as the police are concerned. When Izzy arrives home, he empties the satchel, finds a small box, in it a stone about the size of an egg that glows in the dark. Alongside the dead man there was also a paper napkin with a phone number written on it. Next day he dials the phone number and meets Celia a would be actress waitress.
When the stone glowed, I thought, "Oh, no! Not one of these stories." But I persisted. Izzy did not know Celia or her name, so when she says, "Yes, come on over," I know I'm in a reality different from mine . In the late 20th century a single young girl is going to let an unknown male visit her alone in her aparment. Celia thinks she knows Izzy because he identified himself on the phone and she is listening to a recording of his. Nothing like honesty and trust. Well, Celia holds the glowing stone in the dark of her apartment; and then Izzy does. They are transformed into lovers at first sight. Izzy happens to know the people producing the movie LULU for which Celia is auditioning for a part which she gets because Izzy called his friends. Celia goes to Ireland where the movie is being shot; Izzy will follow in three days__which become a long time.
Stanley Mar, the murdered man, was murdered because he had the stone. Now some toughs find Izzy in his apartment and imprison him in a seemingly abandoned building where he is interrogated in hope of revealing where the stone is. He doesn't reveal it, but the interrogator(daFoe) reveals all the nasty details of Izzy's life. Izzy doesn't reveal anything about the stone because he's protecting Celia who has it in Ireland. Although Izzy hasn't given daFoe a clue, daFoe nevertheless finds Celia in Ireland.
I can't tell you the denouement, but I think it is still in the realm of a reality different from mine. I am not a romantic, so the love story didn't capture me. I'm a materialist(philosophical), so the transformative power of the stone did not capture me. Perhaps the story is about the transformative power of love, but then so is Silas Marner, and no stones, just gold. Where does Aphrodite come in? Well, LULU is a remake of G.W. Pabst's PANDORA'S BOX(1928), which is a very sexy, provocative story, and so Celia is supposed to be in the role of Lulu(Pandora), a femme fatale . And this is why the ending is ambiguous for me__again the reality of the film vs. the reality outside one's mind. This one reqires the "willing suspension of disbelief."
Five stars for the acting, etc.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic!.......2007-02-26

I love this movie.I owned it on VHS for many years before buying the DVD.
I think it is a truly misunderstood and underappreciated film.
For all the people who are offended, you should look deeper and listen to the filmmakers own words and understand what the film is about.
It is a social commentary and a social criticism on how the media, schools, Parents and the community at large handles the aftermath of such a shooting.I thought it was wonderfully done. There is also another message that the film puts across. A very important one. That constant abuse and ostracism can drive people to such desperation and hopelessness that they feel the only way out is to destroy themselves and others. The film never condones such an action.Just presents an understanding of it. Bill Hellfire,Joey Smack and Misty Mundae were perfect in their roles and Smack and Hellfire did a fine job in the producing and directing aspects.
Although Misty had done other things before, this film is where her career really took off.

As far as the DVD itself, the print is some darker than the VHS, but the sound is improved over the VHS version.
A few minor characters are cut out of the DVD version (The Priest, Gun rights spokeman, ect), but that doesn't disrupt or take anything away from the story at all.
And the special features are excellent.

This "movie" shows what wrong with the home video market. That anyone can make a movie. There's nothing redeeming about this movie. Satire? I don't think so. Social commentary? I don't think so. The writing is awful. The direction is well, I wonder if there was one. And the acting is so bad, it makes Vin Diesel look like an Oscar winner. Do yourself a favor, if you want to see a real movie about the problems with school violence, pick up a copy of "Elephant" by Gus Van Sant.

Thats the thing with movies though people get so worked up over it they post messages on message boards. It is entertainment no one will force you to watch. You can't sue someone over being tasteless. It may have crossed a line but thats the thing isn't it?? It got your attention and publicity and isn't that all they are looking for?? If no one responded they would still be where they are with nothing and working at WAL-MART, but I look at it as entertainment not a learning experience. An experience horrific as it may be is still an experience which we can learn from and when we have the chance to really say something then we can say it.

1 out of 5 stars Yes, it's exploitive, but not in any good way.......2006-02-17

Made by a sort of "clique" of film folks in New York, the fact that you have even heard of this "home movie" is proof that in our culture, how you wrap something is far more important then it's actual substance. It really was shot with a cast of under 20 "actors" (maybe less)and peopled with misfits clearly working without scripts. It's just poor folks. Save your money. They pick a subject that polarizes folks, generate some free publicity, and voila, you have to read about their crappy movie on Amazon. It could have been shot in your backyard (maybe it was, are you home ALL the time?).

"I admire DUCK very much because it refuses to shrink back from the event itself. In fact, it is the only cinematic response to the Littleton massacre that refuses to recoil in the face of the disaster."

...Yeah, what he said. :)

This is a cool German Sci-Fi movie (maybe TV show?) that really peeked my interest. Has some cool effects and a plot line that will keep you guessing. The only dissapointing thing is i wish there was more. I think this was originally a pilot for TV since the story is left open for continuation at the end of the film and the length of the film is so short. Maybe Sci-Fi channel or someone will see this and pick it up for US television. I sure hope so. It has a lot of potential!

Excellent documentary on bullying and school violence. Presentation can be enlightening to both kids and adults. Past events and news stories on school violence well integrated with opinions from students and teachers.

    5 out of 5 stars Powerful.......2007-01-30

This film is amazing.... It made me cry. I loved it and the message that is being enforced. Everyone should see this, not just teens, but parents and teachers and just everyday people. It really opens your eyes.

    5 out of 5 stars Quite Impactful.......2007-01-21

This is an extremely effective tool to show to teens and pre-teens because it has a great message without sounding preachy. It connects to teens I have shown it to who then feel compelled to change their behavior. It's light on specific suggestions for change but definitely is one of the best ways I've seen to start a forward thinking dialogue with actual teens, instead of 'administrators' who aren't doing the bullying in the first place. Well worth the money.

5 out of 5 stars A real wake-up call about teen violence; something everyone should watch!.......2007-01-19

After working with troubled teens in a high school in south Stockton, CA, I saw first hand, the life that these kids had to deal with. I was surprised they even made it to school in the morning! I wish that I had this film to show to all of the kids that I worked with, because it truly is a real-life portrayal of what teens have to go through, day in and day out. Teachers, parents, administrators, counselors and social workers NEED to see this film. It might help in understanding and listening to our teens, and not always putting them to blame. Everyone across the nation should see this film! It is definitely a must-see!!

    5 out of 5 stars It's a sad truth, but a great film!.......2007-01-17

Since I am no longer in high school, I was doubtful that the issues covered in the film would affect me. While watching, I saw that these issues affect everyone. Teens across the U.S. are becoming more and more violent, and though people are noticing, it seems that little is being done.

I wish Teen Truth had been around while I was in high school. Though I attended a Catholic private school, there was true hatred among peers there. I had never been treated so low, by so many people, just because my parents weren't rich.

One part in the film that truly gripped me was the raw footage from Columbine. It is especially heartbreaking now, because the video game industry is teaching teens to beat up their Bullies. Hasn't anyone learned anything from Columbine?

I know this review is a little long-winded, but I feel that producing educational footage against violence is something this country needs. So if you aren't a teen or don't have children, this film is still an important tool in awareness.
