If you like good ole humor, than these dvds are for you. I remember watching Don Knotts as a kid growing up in the 70's. It refreshing to sit back and watch good and clean humor. Don Knotts and Tim Conway movies are classics.

Watching these movies brought back so many childhood memories. my brothers,sisters and I watched the ghost and mr chicken every time it was on TV. An Era sadly gone..........2007-04-22

But you can relive it (a much more innocent time) in this set of DVD's. Oh, yeah these would seem hoplessly HOKEY to a modern viewer and to those of us old enough to have seen these when they first come out..but let's just say there a gulity pleasure and leave it at that. A must for any fan of Don.

It's an old technique, but it still looks pretty darn cool, and it means the cast can just relax and do a bunch of reaction shots. Good film. Titans?.......2007-06-12

Since this film is from the year 1981, naturally, the first thing one would notice would be the special effects. They are humorous at best. But if you can look past the special effects, you would realize this film is actually quite decent. For it's time it's got good acting and writing. I definately recommend this one to anybody interested in Greek mythology. I actually was interested in it because of God of War II, in which there is a battle against the main character of this movie. The only real complaint i have is, i guess with the title. Clash of the Titans. It is referring to Medusa and the Kraken. Both of which are in fact NOT TITANS. So the title makes no sense at all. They refer to the two of them as titans, when they are not. But other than that one relatively minor statement, it's a good film. It's worth a download, a rental, or a purchase. However you want to [legally] obtain it, it's not a bad film at all.

So says one of the blind Stygian witches when unbelievably handsome Perseus played by a young Harry Hamlin shows up to inquire in to the secret of how to kill the Kraken. THE CLASH OF THE TITANS is taken from several Greek myths involving Perseus the son of the great god Zeus and the mortal Danae. In CLASH OF THE TITANS Perseus battles some real monsters of Greek mythology like the Medusa as well as monsters borrowed from other cultures such as the Scandinavian Kraken and some invented for the movie like Calibos. The movie is well made and entertaining though of course the special effects are dated in the eyes of many modern viewers. The oversized vulture and Pegasus the flying horse appear clunky in flight and the two headed dog is not very convincing. Perseus's magical owl sidekick is apparently there partly for comic relief and that creature looks like a cross between a Furby and Gizmo from GREMLINS with a clicking speech reminiscent of Star Wars' R2D2. The movie is rated PG though there is a bit of nudity and gore and would undoubtedly have been rated PG-13 if that rating had existed in 1981.

It would have been cool to have lived during the time of the greek gods!! This is a good movie, and not bad for the era of time. It was a great deal at $6.99

Watching it shows how far we have came with technology! Fun movie!

I originally saw this movie when I was a little kid and all I could remember was the little owl and Medusa. I've seen it a number of times since then and it is still a blast to watch! Harryhausen's animation is priceless.

Mark Medoff's tough play about deafness is sweetened and softened in this 1986 film adaptation directed by Randa Haines (Wrestling Ernest Hemingway). William Hurt plays a teacher newly hired at a school for deaf children, and Marlee Matlin is the deaf and withdrawn janitor who captures his attention. Romantic and heartfelt, the film makes its audience care very much about its two leading characters, and wince when Hurt's well-meaning instructor allows Matlin's handicap to become a problem. Haines develops some interesting visual ideas to underscore the isolation of Matlin's world, particularly a lovely refrain that finds Matlin swimming alone at night. The drama is cut somewhat by the bouncy energy and good humor of Hurt's students. Piper Laurie is very good in a supporting role as Matlin's mother. --Tom Keogh

A good plot ruined..........2006-09-26

This is a good movie, but could be better.
1) Having a "R" rating kind of limits the audience base. It could have reached more people if it was PG 13 instead. Maybe even PG. Maybe more people would watch it, like it, and discuss it if it wasn't necessary to rate it so strongly.
2) Is all the sex so necessary to the plot? No. It was embarrasing, to say the least. And their love would still be as strong if they restrained their passions until they were married.
3) The sex weakens the plot in another aspect. If Sarah hated her childhood, hated being known as promiscuious by every single boy in her neighborhood, you'd think she continue to distance herself from her mistakes, and make him wait until they were married. That would show that he loved her and cared for her so much he wouldn't mind waiting.
4)Yes, I can see the humor in having a deaf kid want to learn to speak so he can swear at people, but is it so necessary, I have to ask?

I hope somebody remakes the movie with these points in mind, enabling a greater audience to be exposed (to the ideas, not to the...you know...) to the deaf community.

James and Sarah's Story.......2006-08-15

Hollywood has often visited the story of the teacher who comes to make a difference. There have been some fine films born from that premise but Children of a Lesser God gets my vote as the really interesting one.

William Hurt's James is an offering that has a real feel to it. He has wandered through some of his earlier days, drifting and learning through a variety of different disciplines and jobs (as principal Bosco points out to him while he is interviewing Hurt). He is cocky, passionate and searching but there is also the hint of arrogance in his motivations. William Hurt has never been better and he delivers a subtle, intense and yet a kind performance.

Marlee Matlin's Sarah is equally as compelling and her portrayal- explosive and needing at every turn. No wonder she won the award for this work. She conveys the frustration this character feels with a precise on target delivery.

What makes this story interesting is that it is the story of a teacher who reaches into himself, reaches into a quiet that has robbed a group of students of their ability to actively participate, and reaches into the life of a young woman who has imprisoned herself in her own frustration and anger. All are changed by the results and in a very real, positive and life renewing way.

Randa Haines direction is restrained, inspired and poetic and the film plays like a glimpse into someone's life. It's a beautiful thing to watch and to learn something from. And while I've said it's a story of a teacher who has come to make a difference, it is also a very tender and moving story of love. Love between James and Sarah, between James and his students and between the small community that is depicted here.

Special mention to of Piper Laurie and Philip Bosco's work here as the mother and the principal. They are two extremely fine character actors whose work (as always) is nothing short of a joy to watch. They lend the more sage advice that rounds this story's points out to have some real weight.

If you're looking for a film that lends its love on several levels, this is the one for you.

If you are reading this review, chances are you saw this movie many years ago and you might be asking yourself:

1) Does William Hurt talk unusually slow in this film, like he does in all of his films? Yes

2) Was this film like an afterschool special, filled with overwrought acting and obvious advice? No

3) Will the women have 80s big hair and be wearing shoulder pads? Quite possibly

4) Do I remember correctly that William Hurt's character speaks both the female and male dialogue in most of the key scenes? Oddly, yes. But we forgive it, because it is a necessary device.

5) Why is this film popping up in my subconscious, and why am I asking myself if I should watch it again? Because the film is better than you remember, and the ideas it discusses are still applicable to your conflicts today.

If you haven't watched the movie recently, I recommend watching it again. It is as strong as it was 20 years ago.

-In a Puritan town where religion is the number one priority and women are confined to being just housewives a religious woman that has conversations with God finds the love of her life in a worker at the village called Jan. The two soon marry and fall madly in love with each other but tragedy strikes as Jan gets badly injured in an accident at work that leaves him paralyzed from the neck down. This may spell doom for any other relationship but Bess really loves her man and is determined to stay with him forever but an unusual request from Jan complicates things as he ask her to do something that requires her to give the ultimate sacrifice

-Now unless you have a heart made of ice and bitterness then I think you'll either be in tears or in deep depression after watching this movie. It's just so sad what happens in the movie as we see the character Bess do things she doesn't want to do in order to make the love of her life happy. The movie's slow pace helps greatly with the 180 turn that it pulls on the audience half way through the movie. At first glance the movie seems like a heartbreaking romantic story of a woman that loves her husband even though he's crippled from the neck down but then slowly turns from that to a dark tragic story of a woman going to the extremes to make him happy.

-I guess the super cool thing to do in order to prove how knowledgeable I am in movies will be to say how I've been a fan of director Lars von Trier and he's one of my favorites but the truth is before this movie I never knew the man existed and honestly despite my love for this amazing movie I haven't really seen anything that he's done after or before this film. But I will try to someday so I can join his fan club and seem important and clever like the people who pretend to like filmmakers no one's heard of just to be cool. Emily Watson plays the schizophrenic Bess who gives an Oscar worthy performance here. Her character isn't exactly stupid in the traditional sense but she is more loyal than anything which in the end makes her do things that even she knows to be wrong. I know people will criticize it for not being realistic but there really are women like that in the world that will do anything for love. Stellan Skarsgard whose one of our overlooked actors plays her husband Jan who is pretty hard to figure out at times. We don't know whether she shares Bess' intense passionate love or whether he's just a horny man that's having fun with a local girl.

-This is one of those movies that I love but won't dare recommend to anyone due to how depressing it is but if you're dead on the inside and have no emotion what so ever then it maybe a great idea to check it out.

What a powerful cinematic experience! BREAKING THE WAVES, directed by the always-controversial Lars von Trier, explores the concepts of love and faith with more poignancy and more intensity than any other film that I can think of.

The movie opens with Bess (Emily Watson) trying to justify to the elders of her church why she should be allowed to marry Jan, a comparatively worldly outsider. Bess is from a very small and insulated Scottish community, and the church she belongs to is VERY conservative and traditional (not to mention patriarchical). It is with some reluctancy that the old bearded men finally approve her marriage.

Although Bess is not quite as rigidly backward as the church elders, she is a deeply faithful woman. In fact, as the film progresses, the purity of Bess's religious beliefs transforms her into a saintly, if not Christ-like character.

Next to Bess's devotion to God (perhaps even surpassing it), is her devotion to Jan. Bess loves her husband completely, unquestioningly, almost madly. In fact, Bess is at first hesitant to tell her husband how deeply she cares for him, for fear that he will be angry with her for the intensity of her feelings. Fairly early on in the film (and I don't think I'm revealing too much by saying so), Jan is severely injured in an oil-rigging accident. This is when Bess's love for him is put to the test in surprising and frankly disturbing ways.

As with any Lars von Trier film, BREAKING THE WAVES is not for the faint of heart. The story is difficult, and there is a lot of frank sexuality. I think any thoughtful viewer, though, will recognize that this film is far from an exploitive shock-piece. After viewing it for the first time the other night, I found myself (and I'm not religious, by the way) contemplating some profoundly spiritual questions. What does it mean to love unconditionally? Do any of us really have pure faith, or are we all too jaded? Why was it necessary for Christ to sacrifice himself to save us? Is this morbid, or is it the ultimate demonstration of love?

The film is generally heavy, but there are also several light moments. One of the most delightful aspects of the film is Emily Watson's performance. While the acting was excellent across the board, I couldn't take my eyes off of her face. I was reminded of Giulietta Masina in LA STRADA. Both actresses are extraordinarily expressive and have a sort of wide-eyed naivety that breaks your heart. Actually, I believe the similarities between the two roles extend beyond the actresses' facial expressions, but I'll leave that for you to contemplate. First, you've got to watch this movie. I highly recommend that you do so.

Most Powerful Film On Von Trier's CV........2006-08-08

Breaking The Waves is quite possibly one of the best, and most powerful film of the 90's. It is considered one of the films in the Dogme movement started by Danish filmmakers including this film's director, Lars Von Trier. The Dogme movement was started in 1995, and is a set of rules, that director's can follow which allows the filmmaking to be at it's purest for cheapest, with no special effect and no big budget, this allows the filmmakers to focus more on the story and the actor's involvement with their characters. Although this is not a proper Dogme film, it does follow some of the other rules Lars Von Trier vowed to keep. This is Emily Watson's first feature film and definately is one of her finest roles to date. She achieved an acadamy award nomination for best actress as the leading character Bess, and the film also won the grand jury award at the Cannes Film Festival, along with best film of the year at the european film awards. The film was written by Lars Von Trier, Peter Asmussen, and the uncredited David Pirie.

Breaking The Waves is set in the early 1970's and is about a faithful young woman named bess, who lives in a small town in Scotland. Bess is a very faithful person towards her religon and has a previous mention of being at a psychiatric hospital. At the beginning of the film, Bess is confronting the townsmen who are incharge of the church she attends and is asking their permission to marry an oil rig worker named Jan, who is played by Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgård. After Bess and Jan get married, Jan has to go back, and Bess' world ends once he leaves to go back and work at the oil rig. Bess' caretaker and sister in law Dodo, encourages her to live a normal life while he's away, and that she shouldn't just stop living. Jan phones his wife every day and doesn't neglect her. Bess prays for her husband to come home, although he would be returning to her in ten days, she can't wait that long, and prays for him to come home immediatly. Jan has a fatal accident at the rig and forces him to come home to attend the hospital. Bess soon finds out from the doctor who's a good friend of her's that he's parralized for life. She soon starts to feel guilty that her beloved is parralized because of her, that she prayed for her husband to return quickly, and thinks that she caused the accident to happen. Jan realises that he can't ever touch or make love to his wife again, and encourages her to find a lover and tell him every detail so that he can never forget what it feels like. Both of them are deeply in love, and Jan pleads her to help him never forget, so that he, as he claims, may still live. Bess beleives that this whole fiasco is a test of her love for him.

The key highlight of the picture is Emily Watson's truly amazing performance, and is one of the main reasons you should watch this film. But, there is not one poor performance in this film by any actor. Skarsgård is absolutely sensational as the crippled Jan, and gives a very detailed and heart breaking performance alongside Emily Watson. Other brilliant performances come from Katrin Cartlidge as the nurse Dodo and sister in-law to Bess, and as well as Adrian Rawlins as the caring Docter Richardson. Von Trier is known to be hard on his cast, but is rewarded with truly heartfelt performances from the cast and excellent direction. The cinematography is what you expect from any Dogme film(one of the rules is to only use handheld cameras), the handheld camera gives us the personal and intimate moments of the characters, it's not only stylish and unique, but it also gives us a feeling that we are one of the characters in the film, that we are a spectator of the events that are taking place, and that we are in their heads, that we are experiencing what they are feeling at that precise moment. The film features an exilarating 1970's rock soundtrack, that has mostly glam rock, the music is only played at the introduction of each new chapter, and only once, during actual footage, T-Rex's rollicking Hot Love. The script is very well thought out, and very meaningful dialogue with heart pounding story.

Overall, Breaking The Waves is a definate knock-out, and rightly deserves the praise it got from critics and cinema goers. But, it isn't for the average movie watcher and would only appeal to avid Von Trier fans and art house viewers. The film should most definately not be missed by anybody who is looking for a tale filled with love and faith. The end result is one of the most powerful films of all time and one of the most depressing films ever. The ending is an absolute tragic event and gets all of the character's emotions thrown at us with devestating results. This and Requiem For A Dream are possibly the most powerful films and saddest films I've ever seen. This is a very tough second viewing, and won't reccomend to the sensetive viewer. The film contains explicit sex, nudity, strong language, and graphic violence. But, for everybody else, a film to see on a cold rainy day, infact, any time of the day will do.

There are absolutely no special features on the region 1 disc, I own the region 2 disc, it hardly has anything extra, but specialy selected chapters with comentary from Lars Von Trier and other crew involved. The film: 4.5/5 The extras: 2.5/5(R2), 0/5(R1)

extremely mixed emotions.......2006-07-27

I have never had such mixed feelings about a film. I think the film in and of itself is one of the worst I've ever seen: Lars "von" Trier is in my opinion a very sick individual, and the whole "Dogma" movement is an extraordinary exercise in silliness. I felt dazed and down for days after seeing this film, due to its twisted psychology, and the ending (with the bells ringing in the sky) is one of the corniest ever - pure kitsch. On the other hand, Emily Watson's performance in the leading role is possibly the best I've ever seen on film (up there with Brando as Vito Corleone and Anthony Quinn as Zorba). For that alone it's worth seeing.

Von Trier 'Breaks Boundaries' in one of the most bizarre love stories ever filmed!.......2006-05-11

"Breaking The Waves" may be one of the weirdest love stories ever, but one that perhaps best details how love can make us a bit insane.

This is classic example of how Von Trier departs from standard, commercial, sanitized storylines other directors cling to. He presents well developed characters that you are interested in before "THE BIG DEAL TRAGIC HOLLYWOOD EVENT" happens.

Afterwards, things definitely don't stick to an standard plotline. He's never afraid to make the viewer uncomfortable, and as the story progresses you will sit in disbelief telling yourself... it can't be going there, but it does! Then it keeps going even further across moral lines you don't see challenged in most films.

Culture clash, true love, catastrophic injury, delirium, prostitution, sibling rivalry, ex-communication, and vindication of the nutcase.... awesome!

The image of a nude Brigitte Bardot stretched out on her stomach, as she appeared at the very beginning of "And God Created Woman," used to create posters that sold by the thousands and helped to popularize her initials, "B.B."

The scandal she provoked launched the film and made it an unprecedented success... Her image embodied a unique combination of perversity and innocence, a mix she displayed in her powerful portrayal of the fascinating character in the film--a young woman, proud of her body, who ultimately rejects morality... However, this opposition to conventional behavior was more a declaration of intent than of reality... The film was actually a morality tale: the liaison of the heroine and her brother-in-law was severely criticized, and conjugal love triumphed over the other more sordid union in the end...

The controversy of "An God Created Woman" lay not so much in the actual events, but in the female character's impudence... And even if Vadim's message has become dated, it nonetheless documents a difficult period of time and the frustration that accompanied a living, breathing, sexual fantasy, an object of desire, a symbol of sexual liberty... surprisingly not good.......2006-12-04

was SO excited to finally see the myth known as Bardot and the movie that made her famous for that myth. but it turned out too be a big yawn. the movie is actually boring, and you can understand the plot, but it is still incomprehensible. and not b/c it is in french with subtitle (i actually prefer it that way; i like to hear french). it's like Vadim tried to hard with twists and turns; he tried to make an average story something greater. there is no great, stand out acting. and even though BB is sort of known for being "lazy", the actors in it seemed bored with the movie them self. like they didn't want to act. they and BB were lethargic. it felt like they were improvising or rehearsing, instead of actually acting. there is too much worthless dialogue, no action. i still love bardot probably because of her fashion, beauty, etc, but i don't see why there was a commotion over her from a celluloid point of view (maybe there is another movie that captures her sex-kitten essence; i don't think this is the movie), shes not very great in it. she is just an average girl who pouts. there's not a wonderful, distinct persona, how you have with Marilyn Monroe. it was a long, mundane movie and i found myself falling asleep. i was very disappointed. it did not hold my attention. haven't watched it again. i was also shocked that even though BB looks great in it, she still couldn't keep me awake.

Enjoyable, and worth watching for more than Bardot........2006-04-04

I saw this recently on a lark just to see what all the Brigitte Bardot fuss was about -- and wasn't expecting much since sex comedy farces (particularly French ones) aren't high on my film watch lists -- but was surprised at how good (and good-natured) it was. Besides the vivacious charms of Ms. Bardot, this film had a solid script and good acting and dialogs. (One of my favorite lines had Bardot replying to a query why a family won't sell its puny shipyard to the effect that they want to at least still *own* something to not to feel poor.) The story is not highbrow, but is far from being lowbrow and tawdry and exploitative as some newcomers (like me) might perceive from its notorious reputation. Bardot plays Juliette, the "town tramp" of St. Tropez who is pursued by a rich, elderly playboy while carrying the torch for Antonio, an impecunious shipwright who treats her just as a convenient one-night-stand. In comes Antonio's younger brother, Michele, who truly loves her and offers to marry her to save her from being sent back to the orphanage. Juliette marries Michele and comes to love him despite herself, while fighting against her reckless, impetuous nature as Antonio comes back into the scene and presents a constant temptation. Will love or lust wins out? Call me old-fashioned, but I liked how the movie ends, and I agree with another Amazon reviewer's analysis (Robert Cartland), which hits it square on the head. (BTW, the video transfer for this Criterion DVD edition is excellent, eliminating all the old flaws while preserving the warm, vibrant colors of the St. Tropez location to great effect.)

The Sex Kitten is Born.......2005-12-26

If you've never watched any of Bardot's movies, I'd say this would be the best place to start. It displays Brigitte at the height of her beauty and is the perfect vehicle to show case her unbridled, breathtaking sensuality. Though the plot is thin and the sex scenes and nudity(which are actually more in the viewers imagination than on screen),are very tame and modest by today's standards, you can see why Bardot would have been ahead of her time and why she became a screen icon and legend.In a sense she was the original example of the sexually liberated woman,living by her own laws of sensuality and freedom. Along with that you can't take your eyes of her, she is a goddess incarnate and what she lacks in acting ability, she makes up for in charm and natural screen presence. Brigitte's 'Juliette' character, a teenaged orphan forced into a marriage of convenience, is childishly irresponsible,sulky,untamed and larger than life. But then I find a lot of French movies like to portray their woman as pouting, rebellious, reckless man eaters. Bardot was the original sex kitten however, with her tousled mane, luscious pout, gorgeous shapely figure, and careless sexy walk, she spawned a generation of imitators; her style still evident more than ever in today's starlets, who can't hold a candle to her. Director Roger Vadim makes good use of beautiful and unspoiled St Tropez as a backdrop, but it is his stunning,shapely young 'Mrs' who carries this film.I doubt if it would have got a second look without her presence.
Athough Curt Jurgens adds a little class and Christian Marquand is good to look at, the male characters in the film are quite dull and unlikeable, and Bardot outshines all of them as she continued to do through her 20 or so year career of mediocre movies.

Bardolatry at its finest!.......2005-12-23

This is the film that made Brigitte Bardot a legend. I have to admit: I have tried to look at this film objectively and I find it alternately demeaning, silly, and just plain dumb. So how come I'm giving it five stars? One word: Bardot. If you were to assemble a dictionary that would use visuals to illustrate the various words, Bardot's mambo sequence would authoritatively define the word "sensual." With the pulsating sound of the bongos in the background punctuated by blaring horns, Brigitte is larger than life dancing from room to room like a woman possessed. This may not be acting but it sure holds your attention - kind of like watching a human being transform into a wild animal. This sequence tells you all you need to know about why Bardot is a legend even in her senior years. And no, I don't believe And God Created Woman's silly ending in which we are expected to believe that a few slaps from Jean Louis Trintignant are enough to turn Bardot into a submissive French housewife. On the other hand, I don't think audiences in the 1950's were ready to deal with the reality of a sexually liberated woman like Brigitte.

David Talbert is a brilliant writer and director. I think he's a bit overshadowed by the Tyler Perry craze and dont get me wrong Tyler is the man but there are other writers and directors out here. In all David's play are wonderful and I can relate to many of the subject matters. I recommend this to anyone who's looking for Christian based entertainment.

Worth Every Penny!.......2006-11-23

I love David Talbert's work. These plays are worth every penny! I originally rented He Say She Say ...., I loved it so much that I decided to buy the three pack. I have watched these movies soooooooo many times! They are great for family gatherings as well. Instead of watching movies that everyone has seen, I pull this out of the collection and we have a blast! For many of my relatives, this was there first time hearing about these plays.

Clifton Powell is a great actor. I almost fell out of my chair laughing when his character haid the nerve to say, "You see, that's the problem with you 100% black people. I'm 37% Cherokee."

These plays will make you laugh, cry, get angry-they will take you through some emotions and remind you of things that you have heard of or seen in your lifetime.

Kudos to Mr. Talbert on a job well done!

It was very sad, but educational for people looking for love in all the wrong places. It is giving a message to take time and let it find you. But, it could have been better made. Again, add a couple of professional actors in the mix. It is a good story, but played, I guess to their best ability. Everyone cannot act.

A Guilty Pleasure From My Twenties........2006-08-04

This movie isn't particularly good--it's a basic marriage of convenience and cheating tupperware party. It's still got great, funny moments even if it doesn't always make sense, but I wouldn't thumb my nose at it. I never saw the original nor, until looking up these reviews, did I even know there was one. Rebecca DeMornay is always beautiful, and her performance is actually quite hilarious in places. The situations are outrageous, and Vincent Spano is nice eye candy if not much else. Donovan Leitch's son also turns in a solid supporting role performance.

Sure, this movie is shallow, silly, raunchy, and totally 80s, but that's what makes it so much fun. A great guilty pleasure with a decent music sountrack, 80s movie buffs should really like this one, because it fits all the typical criteria.

Two words. Frank Langella........2006-05-08

This is one of those laughably bad movies where you find yourself wondering how much worse it can get, and then it gets worse. Rebecca DeMornay does her best to summon a this-is-how-twenty-and-thirty-something-guys-think-a-sexy-wild-chick-looks-when-she's-having-sex persona, but really, she doesn't bring one iota of sensuality to the character. For a movie that's supposed to be all about sex, overall it's curiously un-sexy. There is one reason, and one reason only to sit through (the unrated version of) this movie -- Frank Langella. On the pool table. In the hot tub. On the floor. The only true depiction of desire and passion in the entire silly thing. In those all too brief scenes, he makes Vincent Spano's character look like a colorless, bloodless, bumbling schoolkid (not too difficult to do considering Spano's acting job), and it's just one part of the lunacy of this thing that she goes home to him when she has the glorious, magnificent masculinity of Frank Langella offered to her for the night. Are you kidding me?? He is a peerless actor who must surely count this clunker among the what-was-I-thinking parts of his resume, but he gets ten stars for turning in the movie's only moments of real passion. He invests the word "wait" with more sensuality than the entire rest of the cast in the entire movie combined!

Man,is this a sexy film. Rebecca DeMornay is Robin,a paroled convict who forms a band with some people who answer an ad she placed(she's the lead singer and rhythm guitarist). Upon her release from jail she marries the handsome man who bails her out. So Robin begins her new life with her new husband Billy(Vincent Spano) and his young son,Timmy,from an earlier marriage. Handyman Billy has a younger brother who's a musician also. He also works as a sales clerk at a fast food restaurant(he was fired from the restaurant after failing to show up too many times). Billy and Robin had affairs with others during their marriage which never ended. Robin had sexual affairs with governor hopeful James Tiernan(Frank Langella). They shot pool together and Billy went bowling with another woman. After Billy an Robin engage in a sexual activity on a bed inside a museum,they're photographed by a patron. The photograph is brought to the attention of Robin's parole officer. Now Robin's about to go back to jail. Billy gets a lawyer and fights to the finish for Robin's revoked parole. James even admitted,"Miss Shay(Robin) is getting too dangerous for me.". So Robin and her band perform in a nightclub and she catches the eye of a male sex fiend. Jealous Billy beats the crap out of the sex fiend. So to keep the marriage alive,Billy plans to go to Robin's jail(Billy confessed to her that he murdered another woman). Awesome film!

Somewhere between a guilty pleasure and an underrated gem.......2003-07-13

If you can forget the whole remake thing, this is a somewhat involving movie, with interesting plot twists, a great performance by De Mornay, nice supporting performances, interesting if corny character development, a nice sound track, Vadim's strange but unique visual style and it's very sexy. What more do you want? I think as time goes on and a new generation stumbles on this flick free from the hype about it being a remake of a "classic" it will be appreciated more and more as a nice offbeat B movie melodrama with lots of sex, some nice humor and beautiful photography.

Rita Hayworth really was a screen goddess in the late 1940s--so why not cast her as Terpsichore, the goddess of dance? That's the premise of this splashy Technicolor musical, which borrows some devices (and cast members) from Here Comes Mr. Jordan. Rita descends to earth to inject authenticity into a Broadway show about Terpsichore, posing as an actress and turning the head of impresario Larry Parks (then in the brief moment between his Jolson Story smash and his blacklisting). This leads to an overblown, pretentious out-of-town tryout, an amusing sequence that predicts the highbrow disaster in The Band Wagon. In general, this film is funnier than its reputation, although it doesn't add up to anything and the song score is tepid (with one delightfully weird number where Rita considers bigamy with Parks and dancer Marc Platt). And Rita? Very creamy looking in a series of lavish gowns--and hardly down to earth. --Robert Horton

Heavenly Goddess Steps Down To Earth.......2006-04-23

After the success of "Gilda", Columbia put their superstar Rita Hayworth in this musical remake of "Here Comes Mr. Jordan". It did well at the box office, although in later years it has been panned by many as silly, far-fetched fare. I personally don't have a problem with it - it's not on par with Rita's earlier musicals, but it is very entertaining. The color is lush, and Hayworth is breathtakingly beautiful, and certainly suited to play the goddess of music and dance, Terpsichore (her singing voice is again dubbed by Anita Ellis), and Larry Parks is adorable as the young Broadway producer who wants so desperately to succeed. George Macready, who played Hayworth's evil spouse in "Gilda" again appears here in a similar role (with comedic undertones) - his office even seems to be the same as in the earlier film. It's also fun to see William Frawley in a small but memorable role.

Parks, sadly, had a short-lived career, as it was virtually destroyed by the McCarthy witch hunts. And the romance is touching and even a little tear-inducing. The term "Heavenly Goddess" certainly applies to the lovely Rita. Adele Jergens is also great as the original dancer in the show that Kitty/Terpischore replaces. Not the best Columbia musical, but an off-beat film, and worth watching simply because of the dance sequences, color cinematography and Rita at her most enticing.

Its heaven on earth in this delightful musical comedy sequel to enormously successful " Here Comes Mr. Jordan 1941" . Rita Heyworth (1918-1987) plays incredibly angelic muse , inceensed at the notion that a Broadway musical is going to portray her as a modern living sexpot . She sets off for Earth to set the record straight and the results are a "mousing" . in 1946 , Columbia knew it had all the makings of a blockbuster by reworkng the "Here Comes Mr.Jordan" theme along with teaming up some of the original cast members with Hollywood brightest star, Rita Heyworth . The proscts might have been too promising , as they enabled Hayworth?s agent at the William Morris Agency to renegotiate her already lucrative studio contract .in DOWN TO EARTH , Rita Heyworth?s talent are absolutly show-stopping and with the realese of this film , its easy to see why she earned the reputation as Silver screen?s one and only love goddes . Do you need a better recommendation ! . Super ultra-resolution transfer quality pictures . Recommended

Danny Miller (Larry Parks) is producing a musical that uses the nine muses as its theme. Even thought the film is in 1947 it has a fifties feel to it.

The real Terpsichore (Rita Hayworth) is upset over being portrayed as a swinging man hungry goddess. She will recruits Mr. Jordan (Roland Culver) and his Messenger 7013 (Edward Everett Horton) to help her go to earth and correct Danny's pretrial of Terpsichore.

Will she succeed? If so at what cost?

The characters are based upon the ones in "Here comes Mister Jordan" (1941). They even tie Rita Hayworth's name in as Kitty Pendleton. The same director is Alexander Hall.

A Must For All Rita Hayworth Fans.......2005-08-10

Although this film often seems a little unreal at the beginning it developes into one of a number of marvelous Rita Hayworth dancing extravaganza's! Its not my favourite Rita film but has many many attributes and is quite individual in storyline and approach. I would definately recommend buying this film and for Rita Hayworth fans like me its a must. Beautifully presented and worth the small price! Go on treat yourself!
