Weekend at Bernie's starts when two lowly clerks at an insurance agency uncover a $2 million fraud and report it to their boss, Bernie (Terry Kiser). Unfortunately for them, Bernie is the one behind the fraud, and he invites them to his island beach house for the weekend, where he intends to have them killed by his mob contacts. Unfortunately for Bernie, the mob decides to rub him out instead--and thus begin the necrotic hijinks. The clerks, Richard (Jonathan Silverman) and Larry (Andrew McCarthy), arrive and discover Bernie's body. At first they panic and start to call the police, but when a party of islanders sweeps in, Richard and Larry also discover that the local residents are so self-absorbed they don't notice that Bernie is dead. So if our heroes can just convince everyone that Bernie is still alive for they weekend, they can have a splendid time. Unfortunately, they also convince the mob hitman, who keeps trying to take Bernie out. Weekend at Bernie's was made at the height of 1980s fashion and features many amusing outfits and hairstyles--often the styles are funnier than the dialogue, and the characters are tissue-paper thin. Still, there's no denying that the movie chugs along from bit to bit and never takes itself more seriously than it should. A cheerful, disposable piece of fluff. --Bret Fetzer

Description

Customer Reviews:
Badly acted and Stupid but....Hilarious!.......2007-05-03
Critics are soooo judgemental and overly serious that of course they threw this movie one star easily. Hell I could toss it one star easily too because I see everything that is bad about it. But I still can't help but to see it as great fun ayway. It stars Jonathan Silverman and Andrew McCarthy as 2 bafoons who wanna work for a rich businessman named Bernie Lomax (Terry Kiser). They know something about his business that they don't realize he wants to kill them for knowing.
He invites them for a weekend at his beach home but he gets killed before they get there. They slowly realize that he's dead and people on the island are slower than them because they just don't see that he's dead. So they fake him being alive just so they can live it up and enjoy his place to themselves. They soon have to save themselves from the guy who killed Bernie. The result is a really really stupid movie with pretty awful acting but will you enjoy the movie anyway ? Hell yes! Terry Kiser actually is hilarious and gives a fun performance as...a dead body. It's silly that no one can even tell that Bernie is dead and try to carry conversations with him. Hell his g/f has sex with him and doesn't even know she had sex with a dead body.
Of course those are good reasons critics gave it one star but to me those are good reasons to enjoy how stupid this movie is. I mean why just give a movie one star when it's at least well done enough to get some good laughs. If you wanna see garbage that's not only easy to just toss one star but Zero Stars, then see Weekend at Bernies 2! Plus when Men at Work did something similar with a dead body it wasn't as clever and well done as this movie or as funny.
Funny movie.......2007-04-21
Bernie's dies but noboies knows it, he act like he's still alive.
Great acting by Terry Kiser!
entertainment.......2007-03-26
I always fall asleep during movies. I found this one to be very funny. Better than the first Bernie's.
Death can be funny, right?.......2007-03-09
This movie can be cheesy at times, and the plot falters a little at times, but it is hilarious and I get nostalgic every time I watch it. I loved the shooting scene and Bernie's Porsche cart. Oh, and when the drunk mobster's girlfriend comes over looking for Bernie. Super funny. It's a typical 80s movie. The DVD format is nice too.
PS (to E. Kutinsky) I believe the movie was set in New York.
Classic black humour of 80's.......2007-01-21
Fantastic film that i first saw when i was little and i like it still. Amazing black humour, nice and relaxing comedy. After 20 years is still funny: funny actors, funny scenario and just 5 stars.

Yeesh. The dead guy from Weekend at Bernie's is back for the gratuitous sequel, still flopping around in his lifelessness like a wet noodle and getting dragged, stuck, bumped, and subjected to all manner of undignified things the living would never tolerate. Jonathan Silverman and Andrew McCarthy return as hapless businessmen who flee to the Virgin Islands after being accused of embezzlement. For reasons we won't go into, they need Bernie's corpse to get out of a jam. McCarthy is annoyingly mannered, Silverman is on auto-pilot, and the visual jokes--all based on one form of desecration or another--do not strike any resonant black-comedy chords. --Tom Keogh
Customer Reviews:
Good Ratings ? lol.......2007-05-03
A witch doctor makes it that Bernie's dead body can move when music is played which is probably the only slightly funny thing about this movie. That's all you really need to know about this bad and uneeded sequel to the stupid and cheesey but pretty damn funny original. This movie is just stupid without the laughs. I'm surprised so many people here liked it. I like that in How I Met Your Mother how when they try to get a friend to get over a girl. They say "she laughed during Weekend at Bernies 2!". Yeah there is something wrong with someone if they actually laugh during this entire awful movie lol. I admit that Terry Kiser is sorta brilliant yet again as a dead body though. He's about all this movie has going for it.
Bernie should've just stayed dead.......2007-03-09
This movie is super cheesy. I only bought it because I had Bernie's I, which is much better. They almost made a Bernie's III, but it got lost in, what they call, "development hell."
I have a feeling that if they indeed made a Bernie's III, it'd be worse than the II. Don't buy it. Rent it and make a copy.
Very nice sequel.......2007-01-21
In most cases sequals are worse then 1st part. And this film is not an exception. The main line of movie a bit changed and has a bit other motive.
From other hand Jonathan Silverman and Andrew McCarthy are still funny and Berny is still dead, but don't lose his charming. This time Larry finds an amazing girl and Richard's seems lost his Gwen in end of first film.
Voodoo stuuf, dead dancing body of Berny, treasure search, beautiful island... what else you wanna from movie?
Crazy and outlandish as ever!.......2007-01-13
Weekend at bernie's 2 is every bit as funny as the first one. I wish this movie would get more attention by reviewers, but unless you can really enjoy 80's and 90's comedies you might skip this one. i guess t.v. people just think if you see the first one, that is good enough. The music in Weekend at Bernie's 2 is better, and the scenes in the morgue are hilarious. I can't believe it when Bernie shows up after being found dead in the subway, and they say "He's been here before!" ITs just crazy.
Weekend at Bernie's II .......2006-11-10
The order was filled promptly and efficiently. I was very pleased and would highly recommend the seller.

VERY FUN!!.......2006-06-05
Like a lot of the reviewers are saying, this movie is just fun!!
While the actors might not get any awards from critics, they would definitely get awards from the common moviewatcher!
They're hilarious and everything that they need to be for a movie like this, maybe even more.
This movie is very entertaining and it will pull you out of any bad mood that you might be in.
Take a chance on this one, it's worth it!
Even better than The Parent Trap!.......2006-06-04
A short review this time I'm afraid as I was too busy laughing to make notes as I was watching. Sidesplitting corpse based capers!
"This guy gets laid more dead, than I do alive!".......2006-05-08
I am giving this 5 stars not because it is an Oscar-worthy masterpiece - it's not. Not because it is the most clever and witty film ever - it's not. This movie gets better with time. Or maybe it just stays the same. I don't know. It is a FUN, silly and whacked out 80s movie. I love it.
I love the opposites-attract chemistry between Andrew McCarthy and Jonathan Silverman... I love the sub-plot with Silverman and the girl that he keeps trying to win over... and I love that Terry Kiser managed to keep that smirk on his face for the entire movie.
This movie was in NO way meant to be taken seriously and they knew that. It is so ridiculous, that if you even try to take it seriously on any level it'll ruin it for you. Just sit back with some friends and have a good laugh. This is an awesome summer movie.
I love so many 80s comedies as it is, so I'm biased... This one is still one of my favorites though due to it's sheer silliness.
Typical 80's movie.......2006-02-17
Weekend at Bernies is a comedy about two employees of a accounting firm. The two employees are best friends with different personalities. Richard is the hard working, do everything by the book employee and Larry is just the opposite. He's lazy and care-free. They are told to transform all the accounting books into the new computer system. When they do this they uncover that someone has been stealing from the company. When they bring this to the attention to Bernie Lomax (who is the company CEO) Lomax tells them that they have done good work and invites them to his beach house for the weekend. The two employees accept the offer and are on cloud nine. But while Richard and Larry are now planning for a vacation, Bernie Lomax is planning to have them killed for uncovering his defrauding the company. But the poeple that Bernie has paid to have the two guys killed instead instructs his hitmen to kill Lomax because he was getting to gready and he is sleeping with his girlfriend. So the hitman kills Lomax by injecting him with a needle. Richard and Larry are shocked that Lomax has died and then some of the locals come to party at Lomax's house and no one notices he is dead except for Larry and Richard. So the two of them pretend that Lomax isn't dead until the uncover what happened. If you like stupid comedy, then this is for you. When I saw this in the movies, I asked the same queston that I am asking now. How can anyone not know that this guy isn't dead?
Weekend at Bernie's.......2005-10-13
This was a very hilarous movie from the time Richard and Larry arrive at Bernie's beach house to the closing scene. It was so amazing how a "dead" Bernie could get around so many places and even host a party. Terry Kiser is fabulous playing the part of Bernie. Jonathon Silverman and Andrew McCarthy just rounded off the leading men team.

Earth Girls aint easy ...........2000-10-05
The story lacks sophisticated humor. Ofcourse, it makes you laugh but then you feel, Gosh !!! why are today's comedy films more of bathroom humor and not an intellectual entertainment. The musical goof is bound to make some feel embarressed. The DVD is well made, lots of extras.

Van Wilder
In a futile but ambitiously decadent attempt to revive the loony legacy of National Lampoon comedies, Van Wilder will make you laugh out loud, or vomit, or both. It's that kind of movie, in which the title character (played by sitcom survivor Ryan Reynolds) is the resident slacker of Coolidge College for seven years and running. Enjoying his party-animal supremacy and reluctant to fulfill his potential, he's got an idolizing assistant from India (Kal Penn, the movie's ethnic stereotype, desperate virgin, and comedic highlight), and a journalism major (Tara Reid) assigned to uncover the secret of Van's controlled anarchy. Unfortunately, the movie's more Down to You than Animal House, opting for familiar teen romance over campus shenanigans, despite an abundance of flatulence, diarrhea, sicko sex jokes, gratuitous nudity, and one gag (involving a bulldog) that's disgusting by any standard. Keg-fueled frat-rats will surely elevate Van Wilder to semiclassic status; all others are urged to proceed with caution. --Jeff Shannon
Weekend at Bernie's
Description
VAN WILDER: You'll never think of bulldogs, pastries, protein shakes or tutors in the same way again...National Lampoon's Van Wilder stars Ryan Reynolds as a 7th-year student who has no plans to graduate. Life is good for Van; he's got a coed in every closet and a party to go to every night. His slick reputation even catches the eye of sexy Gwen Pearson (Tara Reid) an on-campus reported determined to expose the naked truth behind his wild exterior. When Gwen enters his life and his father stops paying for his tuition, could Van's days as the king of Coolidge College be over? Find out for yourself in this outrageous laugh-fest that you're sure to go "nuts" over!
WEEKEND AT BERNIE'S: Andrew McCarthy and Jonathan Silverman team up in the drop-dead comedy of the year, WEEKEND AT BERNIE'S. The pair star as ambitious young employees who accidentally uncover an embezzlement scam in their company. Bernie (Terry Kiser), their boss, rewards their efforts by inviting them to his beachside pleasure palace for the weekend. When the boys arrive, they find that Bernie has been bumped off. But even a stiff won't stop this party. Aided by the charms of Gwen (Catherine Mary Stewart), the boys make quite a splash as they dodge bullets, babes and bodies in the wackiest, wildest weekend of their lives.
