Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Cinematic Fabulousness.......2004-12-24

Jive Chicken is, perhaps, the single most underrated film in the history of the motion picture. Madd Marv's performance as the underdog restauranteur is moving and breathtakingly believable. Few actors could pull off the grandiose task of making so much out of so little.

I will admit that I was highly skeptical of this film, as it was given me by a client of mine who was ultimately indicted for securities fraud--a trumped up charge if ever there was one!--but I was moved to tears on many an occasion and could readily see why viewing this film on her work furlough caused my client to renounce materialism in pursuit of the higher ideals of peace, brotherhood, and equality.

The only quarrel I have with the film is that the ending leaves somewhat to be desired (no spoilers, I promise!), although I'm told that a larger-budget sequel is in the works, possibly starring the inimitable Al Pacino. Apart from that, the plot is crisp as a keen autumn air, and moves at an intensity scarcely to be believed for such a seemingly straightforward story. The levels of intrigue and complexity are layered thickly but not too densely, interwoven seamlessly and symphonically.

I give this film my highest possible recommendation--not since Fight Club have I seen a cinematic endeavor so utterly profound and impactful.
