Editorial Review:
Description
I'll never forget the day my father brought it home. I mean, I can understand mom's distaste for such a pet, however domesticated it was, but who could have ever suspected such unbound horror from this cute little animal.

Through its gaze my younger brother found the courage to declare his homo-sexuality to our family — whether he believed it to be true or not. At first this didn't seem to cause much concern, until my mother tried to "convert" him back by forcing her own sexual impulses on him. I, on the other hand, ended up a suicidal paraplegic dominatrix who tried to seduce my father before his twisted admiration for the rat changed him too, literally. Watching it just sit in it's cage, minding it's own business, it was outlandish to suggest that this feeble little animal was the source behind the demise of my entire family, but it was. Unbeknownst to any of us, our new pet had powers beyond your wildest dreams.

    Product Description

Season 1: The man. The myth. The driver. Doug Heffernan (Kevin James) is The King of Queens, but his wife Carrie (Leah Remini) really rules the roost. Doug is the ultimate guy's guy, but he loves Carrie so much he's willing to sacrifice his tricked-out rec room (plus his 70-inch TV) so that her father Arthur (Jerry Stiller) can move in, a decision he's regretted ever since. Doug's free time is split between quality time with his wife and play time with his buds. A parade of crazy neighbors and oddball citizens of New York's middle-class borough help make this show the reigning comedy champ. The King of Queens proves you don't have to have a huge castle to live like royalty.

Season 2: The King is back! Funnier. Feistier. And more lovable then ever. Doug Heffernan (Kevin James) returns as the delivery guy with the whole package. Along with Carrie (Leah Remini) and his tenacious father-in-law Arthur (Jerry Stiller), Doug turns blue-collar humor into red-hot laughs. When he's not punching the clock, he's working overtime to be around everything he loves the most - his wife, his buddies and his big screen TV. No matter where trouble finds him, Doug faces it with a smile in his heart, and a pastrami sub on his plate.

Season 3: It's good to be King! Kevin James continues to deliver the laughs as parcel deliveryman Doug Heffernan in the third hysterical season of The King of Queens. In these 24 uproarious episodes, Doug, his loving wife Carrie (Leah Remini) and his royal pain of a father-in-law Arthur (Jerry Stiller) hold court over such regal issues as paintball parties, job strikes, expanding waistlines, cheating husbands and positive home-pregnancy tests. So join Doug and his noble entourage of family and friends in this crowning collection of sidesplitting comedy and laughter - uncut, unedited and commercial-free.

Season 4: All hail The King of Queens - because he's funnier than ever. In this outrageous and unforgettable fourth season, parcel deliveryman Doug Heffernan (Kevin James) continues to juggle the intimate moments of marriage with his lovely wife Carrie (Leah Remini) while sparring with that royal pain in the basement - father-in-law Arthur (Jerry Stiller). With such hilarious mishaps as hoarding an airplane's oxygen mask and installing a hidden camera to spy on Arthur, you, too, will crown this hilarious hit-comedy king.

Season 5: It's the fifth season of The King of Queens and the laughs are bigger than ever! Join Kevin James as Doug Heffernan, the down-to-earth deliveryman who's livin' life large, Leah Remini (Carrie), his spitfire wife, and Jerry Stiller (Arthur) as their wacky but loveable perennial houseguest. This season, Doug and Carrie's Valentine's Day plans get sidetracked by a gang of penguins, a real dogfight occurs when Arthur is forced to make room for a new puppy, Doug deals with Super Bowl anxiety, and Carrie's habits land her in a shopping intervention.

Season 6: In season six, Doug (Kevin James) gets buff, Carrie (Leah Remini) gets jealous and Arthur (Jerry Stiller) gets even wackier, as the Heffernans keep on delivering the laughs in King of Queens. This season, Doug squares off against his junior high school arch enemy, while Carrie gets in touch with her inner 'couch potato' and Arthur runs away from home. You'll see all the regulars you love, plus stars like Judge Reinhold, Janeane Garofalo, and Jon Favreau in hilarious guest appearances. Anne Meara and Rachel Dratch are back to add to the fun.

Season 7: The bases are loaded with laughs in the seventh season of The King of Queens. Doug and Carrie Heffernan continue their winning streak of comedy. Doug fakes cardiac arrest at Carrie's work event to cover up his inability to remember her co-workers' names. Carrie scores box seats to a Mets game, only to have Doug strike out with her boss. When Doug's parents come to town, Arthur (Jerry Stiller) is more than happy to entertain Doug's bored Mom. Arthur settles a decades old vendetta against a game show, solves a crime of a missing wallet and learns the power of digital photo editing. Carrie faces turning 35, Doug faces the DMV, and they both face an intense timeshare sales weekend. All this, plus guest stars like Burt Reynolds, Lou Ferrigno, Anne Meara and Hal Linden. It's a grand slam of laughs.

Season 8: Get ready for a box full of comedy in the eighth season of The King of Queens. Doug Heffernan and his wife Carrie keep the laughs coming when they both try pole dancing, but with different results. Doug's sudden interest in personal grooming causes Carrie to investigate. Arthur brings home a set of sheets from a motel, along with thousands of bed bugs. Doug and Carrie find that a quaint bed and breakfast might be a little too rustic. Plus tons more laughs and great guest stars, including Kirstie Alley, Ray Romano and Huey Lewis.

3 out of 5 stars talk about closure...........2007-05-04

I love Will & Grace, but this finale was very disappointing....not as bad as Seinfeld's, almost as good as Friends' and not even close to Cheers'. Jack and Karen's duet got this the extra star. The end of the finale was TOO much with Will and Grace being old and their kids magically going to the same college with the same rooms and meeting up and probably dating. If I wanted that much closure I would watch the reunion show. It could have ended with them talking again after so many years apart, but the producers felt the need to go WAY into the future to try to enhance the nostalgia.

2 out of 5 stars You Have GOT To Be Kidding Me!.......2007-04-07

The finale for this show is really bad. It totally unbalances what took many years for this show to keep balanced. We are really expected to believe that Will and Grace stopped being friends for a few years? Come on! Every episode of this show was about how their bond became stronger. And Jack and Karen ending up together? Oh, please! This finale keeps jumping around to different events in their lifetimes. And Vince and Will together? I can't stand Vince! This finale was a total bomb. I gave it 2 stars because of Karen's amazing singing voice near the end.

    5 out of 5 stars Shed A Tear.......2007-03-22

I am an avid Will and Grace fan and when I saw the series finale on DVD I bought it.
I was not 100% in love with the finale - i felt it was extremely rushed into one hour.
I think the best part though is how the series was tied back to the beginning (with them sitting on the same chairs talking on the phone to eachother ~ to the bar scene where they do shots).
The saddest part (saddest in a good way) was the duet of Megan Mullally (Karen) and Sean Hayes (Jack). That song just puts the series finale into perspective.
This DVD is wonderful though I have a feeling the series finale will be included in the final season when that is released on DVD - so this disk might not be a neccessity because it will be included then; however, for those avid fans who enjoy watching W&G daily - its worth the money.
W&G The series will always get 5 stars from me.

Populated by a variety of memorable characters, Daria: Is It Fall Yet? packs more intelligent humor into 75 minutes than most sitcoms manage in a full season. With its diva of the disaffected in the title role, MTV's animated series moved into Ghost World territory with this enlightening look at summer vacation, beginning with Daria's dilemma about dating her best friend Jane's ex-boyfriend. Jane's tolerating pretentious bohemians at an artists' retreat, and while Daria's playing "prison guard" at a touchy-feely summer camp, her fashion-drone sister Quinn is getting tutored to compensate for dismal PSAT scores. The razor-sharp script uses Daria's ultra-dry wit and too-cool irony (at times excessive) to skewer everything from upper-crust snobbery to the hazards of adolescent romance. It turns out Daria's outer shell protects a likable adult-in-the-making as she learns lessons that feed her heart as well as her head. --Jeff Shannon

5 out of 5 stars "Turn the Sun Down": Teen summer fun cartoon with Daria........2006-09-26

I saw the preview of this cartoon on Netflix. Seeing the teen characters dancing and having fun on the beach (minus Daria, who sits by herself reading a newspaper - with interruptions), I knew I had to buy this. And I love it!

"Is It Fall Yet?" deals with the main characters' experiences during Summer vacation. The highlight: "The Tom Thing" -as Trent Lane, Jane's musician brother, nicely puts it. Daria and Tom have fallen in love, and are dating. Tom and Jane have broken up. This situation dents the friendship of Daria and Jane.

The two bonus episodes on the dvd ("Fire" and "Dye! Dye, My Darling!") show how "The Tom Thing" happened. It's recommended to watch those two bonus episodes FIRST as they lead up to the emotional turmoil and love triangle of Daria, Jane and Tom that is carried over into the movie.

Adding to Daria's anguish, her mother enrolls her to be a camp counselor at the `OK-to-Cry Corral' summer camp. Working with her are her teachers, dorky Mr. O'Neill and Anthony DeMartino (with his trademark bloodshot eyeball that widens when he's very irritated).

The other `Daria' characters have their own situations. Lovelorn Jane goes to a bohemian artist retreat that's out of Lawndale. Dim-witted lovers Kevin and Brittany provide comic relief as they both work as lifeguards at a local pool. They only have eyes for each other... and I won't go further than that. Watch the movie, and see for yourselves! Daria's spoiled brat sister Quinn and her `Fashion Club' gal pals get tutored due to low scores on their PSAT exams. (How I remember my high school days! I was a Junior when I took my PSAT exam - and passed it!) Lead `Fashion Club' member Sandi (with the deep voice) reminds me so much of Khan from Mike Judge's "King of the Hill" series. Like Khan, Sandi is often sullen-expressioned, and complains a lot!

Mack and Jodie also have their share of the `summertime blues'. Mack takes a job as an ice-cream vendor, in a truck, and has to put up with bratty kids who aggravate him as they buy ice cream. His girlfriend Jodie has her share of difficulties as she volunteers at an office, and is up to her neck in work. The pair doesn't have time to date.

I love the opening 'beach' number with the `Daria' cast frolicking on the beach... and with Daria not participating, of course. It is reminiscent of the "Beach Blanket" 1960's movies with Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello. Jane, too, is seen isolated on another part of the beach, painting. Her isolation gives proof of her rift with Daria. The song "Turn the Sun Down", sung by the female band Splendora (who provide the theme song for `Daria'), is playfully catchy! Splendora sounds like the female version of the Beach Boys. The 'beach' segment concludes with the sun going down at the beach at dusk, with the frolickers still dancing...followed, in a dissolve, by the "Daria" logo in a similar 'dusk' color, with the film's title; and Splendora's melodic singing as the song concludes. This is a nice effect.

Another nice effect is in the dvd's Main Menu, with a scene taken from the opening of the `Daria' t.v. series. A somber Daria is at the movies. Her fellow moviegoers, surrounding her, are laughing at the scenes from the opening `Beach' segment. "Turn the Sun Down" is played in the background.

At the film's end, there are `Outtakes', which are cute and amusing involving the `Daria' cast. There are a few gross outtakes also included.

"Is It Fall Yet?" got me interested in the "Daria" t.v. series. To admit, Daria looks much nicer in her own series than when she was on Beavis and Butt-Head". I purchased her "Daria Diaries" and "Daria Databases" books to help me get to know the Lawndale characters. I'm presently reading her `Diaries'. And I, too, hope that the complete "Daria" series gets released on dvd in the very near future.

But treat yourself to the interesting summer experiences -- as well as the summer fun -- at Lawndale with "Is It Fall Yet?" And savor Daria's sweet smile at the near-conclusion of the opening sequence in the two bonus episodes. A little girl in the film asks camp counselor Daria "Do you ever smile??"

The answer is Yes! And this movie is sure to make you smile. It's a gem in the "Daria" series!

5 out of 5 stars Daria is it fall yet?.......2006-07-02

I love anything to do with Daria, so I'm a bit biased. For those who dont know this cartoon series. It is about an anti-social teen with a razor edge wit which means if your a person that needs clever jokes repeated to you this isnt for you. I just wish that they put the whole series on dvds instead of just the two 90 minute movies that they made from the series. If you have never herd of Daria before you will be lost if you buy either movie. This movie serves as a bridge between the second-to-last season and the last season of this series. And the sequel "Daria- Is it College Yet?" Serves as a Series finalle.

    5 out of 5 stars MUST HAVE!.......2007-05-07

If you are also a huge fan of Raymond Barone you must have the series finale. Each and every character makes me feel as if I am one of them or they are my family. You can watch it over and over again and still can find something to laugh about or something that moves you.. Can't wait the next one..

3 out of 5 stars Safe and Cosy Ending.......2007-03-09

After 9 years of Barone mayhem the writers obviously decided on a nice safe and cosy ending to the show. It could be a trap to try and fill the last 40 minutes or so with the best of the best, so they chose a serene almost lame conclusion to the series. The obvious exception being Patty Heaton, who was allowed to shine in this series finale. Memories of a great show will not dim from this last episode, but I expected a little more than what they settled on.

    5 out of 5 stars Can't Get Enough "Raymond!".......2007-01-23

I realize that this is a generic review to cover all the "Raymond" episodes, so I'll try to be concise & to the point.

I have not been so enthusiastic about an American sitcom since the early
"Roseanne" and even further back to the venerable "Golden Girls" and "Newhart." I perceive other influences in "Raymond" that include "I Love Lucy" and even way,way back to "The George Burns & Gracy Allen Show."

"Lucy" relied almost exclusively on physical comedy over script, and "Burns & Allen" featured absurdist writing that rivaled that of the legitimate theatre--and, of course, starred the incomparable Gracy Allen. The situations in "Raymond" are not at all complex, but the writing is really good & the physical comedy the best I've seen on TV in years.
It presents a comix style with few complex implications--which is fine because the ensemble acting is just so darn good.

And what a dream cast! Raymond's parents are played by veterans Doris Roberts and the late, great Peter Boyle. Then there's Ray's wife played by Patricia Heaton and the silly, appealing Ray Romano. Ray's brother is Brad Garret. Now, as I said, this is an ensemble cast with all members sharing the spotlight in turn--but I have to say, Brad Garret steals almost every major scene he's in. He is the perfect contrast to Raymond & his facial expressions are hysterical.

There are the inevitable sitcom children in the show, but as Romano states in the first season, "It's not about the kids." Perhaps that's because the Raymond character is still pretty much a child himself emotionally.
Now I realize that this plays into the American Male Peter Pan Complex--and can be rather obnoxious, but Romano can get away with it. In one epsisode he admits, "I just want someone to take care of me." Oh, I could see the feminist daggers flying--but Romano states this obvious self-truth so simply & appears so vulnerable, that it's OK. It's cute. It's charming.

Like all sitcoms, "Raymond" runs into trouble on those few times when larger social issues are attempted. For example, in one episode Ray's father is at a football game and wrestles down a footbal kicked by a young Latino-American student. The father wants to sell it to the highest bidder, but when the athlete & his father show up and offer to pay $500 for the ball, the father's defenses break down & he hands the football over for free. The interaction between the student & his father is awkward,
and this obvious attempt to bring in cross-cultural element unfortunately misfires.

However, Gay sub-themes are often included that are well done, as are certain comic parallels between Jewish and Italian families.

The one serious scene that I found really moving was a brief scene at the end of an episode. The parents Frank and Marie were going to bed. They had been arguing about the nature of their relationship all day. Marie's face was covered with cold cream & Frank starts gently removing it. Marie asks, What are you doing? And Frank says, You don't need this to be beautiful to me."

    Absolutely Fabulous: Absolutely Special

3 out of 5 stars More Sad, Than Funny........2006-05-13

On the whole I agree with Mr. Harris' review. Patricia Heaton had an excellent send off episode. I thought the show peaked in the sixth season. However, A part of me still thinks that had the writers incorporated more episodes with both Debrah's and Amy's parents the funny fireworks could have gone on for another season. Both sets of parents were different enough from each other and from the Barones to create plenty of humor. This last episode had far too much predictability. We all knew that an illness might occur to raise the anxiety level, and that something would go wrong in the hospital. How long could MARIE go without learning of it? If Debrah's parents had been in the hospital I am sure more laughs would have erupted. For me the SOUL of the show was the volcanic relationship between Frank and Marie. How many viewers have, or know an elderly couple who love to bicker like F&M ? This show will be missed, but this finale was missing something.

3 out of 5 stars great season finally but no close caption.......2006-03-14

This week a good season finally although i personally did not want to see this show end. the only trouble is this was not in close caption which my mother is hard of hearing and i order the dvd for her too. i also like how the first show and last show are on the dvd together that was we can tell the differences in the characters over. the years.

In Love Stinks, Seth (French Stewart from TV's 3rd Rock from the Sun), a sitcom writer-producer, meets Chelsea (Bridgette Wilson, Billy Madison) at his best friend's wedding. He's immediately smitten by her blonde babeness; she's attracted to his income and single status. For the next 45 minutes she tries to get him to commit though a combination of skimpy outfits and wild mood swings. When she finally realizes he's not going to, she turns into a vengeful harpy and tries to make his life hell. This might be funny if you believe that women are manipulative, money hungry, marriage-fixated psychotics--but maybe not. The standard of wit is best expressed in the line, "Drop the probe and step away from my ass," declared by Seth as he's about to receive an unrequested colonic in a spa. It's always wise to be wary of comedies with a comedy writer as the main character, especially when the movie is written and directed by a comedy writer. Writer-director Jeff Franklin previously made two TV movies starring the Olsen Twins; this may have been his attempt to exorcise some relationship gone awry. Love Stinks also features Bill Bellamy (Love Jones, Def Jam's How to Be a Player) and supermodel Tyra Banks. --Bret Fetzer

2 out of 5 stars Not Very Amusing.......2007-05-26

"Love Stinks" is a generally unfunny comedy that will leave you wondering why anyone financed something that promised so little and delivered about what you would have expected from a simple-minded script and an unimpressive cast.

Fans of French Stewart ("3rd Rock From the Sun") will at least be entertained by his many one-liners. Unfortunately they are the only elements that work in this ill-advised movie. Like a lot of this mid-budget stuff, "Love Stinks" places its characters in ultra upscale surroundings and shows them living posh life styles; trying to fool viewers into believing it is a high-end production. But few moviegoers come from the richest portion of the 20-something demographic. Those living a less than swank lifestyle found viewer identification difficult; so the movie was quickly pulled from its theatrical distribution.

Almost everyone else will have difficulty connecting with the film, which is basically the story of Seth's (Stewart) efforts to escape the grasp of the beautiful Chelsea, his materialistic and totally controlling interior decorator. Like this is a continuing problem for all of us!

Chelsea is played by former beauty queen Bridgette Wilson ("I Know What You Did Last Summer"). Wilson is a better actress than she is given credit for as people tend to dismiss her because of a non-acting background, and she is well suited to this type of bad girl role. But the script gives her no opportunity to add dimension to this character. At least most of us have seen this sort of mega-manipulative blonde at work. Desperate to marry, Chelsea gets the rich Seth in her sights, pressures him into a quick commitment, moves in and alters his priorities, then makes his life hell when he postpones the marriage. Most of this is told in an extended flashback, necessary for no reason other than to pad the running length so the movie will qualify as a feature.

Of course Wilson and Stewart's acting gets a boost by relative comparison to the barely competent performances of the supporting cast, which includes talent challenged Tyra Banks and Tiffany Amber Thiesen. Steve Hytner (Kenny Bania from "Seinfeld") also appears but adds little to the comic quality of the film.

"Love Stinks" was written and directed by the guy who is blamed for creating "Full House" and "Hangin' with Mr. Cooper".

Ultimately, all you are left with are Stewart's occasional one-liners and Wilson's beauty. These are not enough to carry a whole feature film but are at least something for which to be thankful if you should be forced to actually view the entire film.

Then again, what do I know? I'm only a child.

    4 out of 5 stars Painfully Funny.......2007-04-15

The almost uniformly bad reviews of this movie by professional critics contrast sharply with mostly favorable reviews by customers. I suspect that at least some of the professional reviews were disingenuous, because anyone in a serious relationship who gave Love Stinks a public thumbs up would have had some explaining to do at home. The film is rude, abrasive, un-PC, and very very funny.

It is the nature of modern romance that nearly every one of us has been involved with at least one psycho. The world is full of them and they come in both sexes: stalkers, vengeance-seekers, clingers, users, manipulators, and abusers of all types. They often are seductive (which is how they rope you in) and the final break-ups with them can be horrendous. I think this is why so many customers were able to relate to and laugh at this movie. Since the psycho in this case is a woman, it should not surprise that there are some corresponding gender differences in viewer responses (though by no means uniform either way). There is a lot of pain and cruelty in this film, but pain and cruelty, handled properly, are the meat of all humor. This is not as nasty as it sounds; humor is the way we best deal with such things. Love Stinks provides plenty of meat.

    5 out of 5 stars FUNNY!!!.......2007-03-09

This is THE movie for anyone who has been burned by "love". French Stewart has some great lines. Not recommended for children, but wonderfully funny for adults.

    3 out of 5 stars Entertaining.......2007-03-01

The Amazon editorial review misses the point of this movie: it is not a documentary on men-women relationships but a comedy about a uniquely psychotic woman...this comedy does not imply that women are psychotic anymore than another comedy implies that all young women are clueless, or yet another comedy implies that all lawyers are liars...This is funny precisely because it is a portrayal of irrational, absurd singlemindedness and extreme behavior. There is nothing about this movie to make you think, there are no gratifying messages for the masses, this is not the usual and rather annoying American mix of comedy-drama-action-love story to please everyone: it is unadultered insanity...You won't feel compelled to take out pen and paper to draft a philosophical thesis about women and men at the end of this movie, and in the very unlikely and rather frightening instance that someone gets offended with this movie, it can only be because he or she recognize some personal behavior, in which case he or she might want to seek professional help!...

5 out of 5 stars Psychotic & twisted love story!.......2007-02-18

I think anyone can relate to this film about a failed relationship turned love-hate. Although, sane people probably do not engage in this type of vindictive behavior. We can at least enjoy it for the hysterical revenge factor. Frenchie Stewart and Brigitte Wilson have terrific chemistry. Their pitched battles to deliberately antagonize and annoy each other after their love relationship goes south is delightful. It's reminiscent of "War of the Roses" starring Michael Douglas & Kathleen Turner which was much darker as a drama. This movie is lighter and comedic. Also, the scene where Brigitte dresses up as "Elvis" for a bedroom seduction scene is very funny. I highly recommend this psychotic comedy about love for anyone who has ever thought of seeking revenge against their ex.

    Season One:

Will & Grace debuted with a controversial splash because one of its two lead characters is gay--but smart writing and topnotch performances, not politics, have made the show a hit. Two neurotic and sharp-tongued urbanites--gay lawyer Will (Eric McCormack) and straight interior designer Grace (Debra Messing)--delight in their volatile but enduring friendship as they share a sumptuous New York apartment. Sweeping into the mix are Will's unapologetically queeny friend Jack (Sean Hayes) and Grace's wildly eccentric assistant Karen (Megan Mullally). Much like Seinfeld, the humor on Will & Grace springs from self-obsession, petty jealousy, and compulsive interfering in each other's lives--basically, the building blocks of human nature. The show's writers apparently feel compelled to keep the lead characters warm and likeable in the usual sitcom mode (which hardly seems necessary, as McCormack and Messing are naturally engaging). As a result, it's Jack and Karen who get free reign to be truly obnoxious and ridiculous--which, of course, makes them incredibly funny and charismatic. Hayes and Mullally rise to the occasion, ripping through absurd situations and arias of narcissistic wit with dazzling panache. Will & Grace's plots routinely center around scenarios that could feature a married couple or two same-sex roommates: Will and Grace bicker over buying a dog, find their relationship tested by apartment renovations, or discover they're both pursuing the same guy--standard sitcom material that the gay factor gives a clever spin. Though their relationship gets in the way of their sex lives, the two take so much pleasure in each other's company that they can't help but stick together--a surprisingly chaste theme for such a culturally groundbreaking show, but one that Will & Grace's addicted audience undoubtedly appreciates. --Bret Fetzer

    Season Two:

After a first season made controversial by the mere presence of openly gay characters, Will & Grace returned triumphantly with renewed confidence and vigor. In their second season, sidekicks Jack and Karen (the very, very funny Sean Hayes and Megan Mullally) are more snide and gleefully obnoxious than ever; Will (Eric McCormack) has perfected his prickly panache; and in particular Grace (Debra Messing) has entered a whole new plane of sexy goofiness, diving even more headlong into physical comedy--such as the episode when, in order to woo a high school crush, she gets a water-padded bra that springs a leak. The writing has also become tighter, grown more deft in its gay and pop culture references (which were often self-conscious in the first season) and at juggling sustained storylines, such as the Immigration department investigating Jack's marriage to Karen's Salvadorian maid Rosario (Shelley Morrison), Grace and Will struggling to become less emotionally incestuous, and Jack seeking his biological father. The show excels at tackling emotional subjects (like Will discovering that his father, who has accepted and even embraced his homosexuality at home, has told his co-workers that Will is married to Grace) with a sharp comic eye. Guest stars start to accumulate: Molly Shannon returns, Sydney Pollack and Debbie Reynolds play Will's dad and Grace's mom, Joan Collins appears as a rival designer, Neil Patrick Harris (Doogie Howser, M.D.) plays the leader of a going-straight support group, and Gregory Hines takes on a recurring role as Will's new boss, a high-powered lawyer who seduces Grace. Will & Grace mixes superb sitcom farce with sly sociopolitical commentary; the fusion is smart and consistently entertaining. --Bret Fetzer

    Season Three:

Will & Grace strode into its third season with the kind of cultural cache TV executives would kill for. These 22 episodes are littered with hip celebrity guest stars, from Ellen DeGeneres to Sandra Bernhard to Cher, and the performances of the core quartet--Debra Messing, Eric McCormack, Karen Mullally, and Sean Hayes--became more comically exaggerated as they risked pushing their characters (already riddled with neuroses and snippiness) into the realm of caricatures. But due to clever writing and confident, full-throttle performances, it doesn't matter. Even when Jack and Karen's high-handed behavior go beyond anything recognizably human, audiences love them all the more; no matter how high-strung Will and Grace become, their well-honed rapport keeps them engaging and lovable. Wisely, the writers swiftly returned the pair to roommate status and got Grace out of her ongoing relationship with Will's former boss (Gregory Hines), bringing the show's focus back on how the pair sublimate their love lives with the cozy intimacy of friendship--one particularly strong episode flashes back to how they first met in college, replete with godawful '80s fashion. But, as ever, it's Jack and Karen who up the comic ante; Mullally and Hayes are shamelessly self-absorbed and shallow, exploiting and abusing everyone around them. Jack forces Will to play Cyrano, feeding him pick-up lines over his salesperson headset; Karen, worried that some experimental plastic surgery might turn out badly, manipulates another socialite into getting it first. Not all plotlines fly--Grace gets into a relationship with an obnoxious neighbor (Woody Harrelson) that never becomes more than stunt-casting--but the racy wit flies fast and furious, the slapstick is topnotch, and Karen's hairdo towers magnificently. --Bret Fetzer

    Season Four:

As the fourth season of NBC's award-winning comedy begins, Will (Eric McCormack) has just returned from France--alone--while Grace (Debra Messing) is still seeing Nathan (Woody Harrelson). Meanwhile, Jack (Sean Hayes) is adjusting to fatherhood of newfound preteen son Elliot (Sky High's Michael Angarano), while Karen (Megan Mullally) remains, well, Karen. Alas, in "Crouching Father, Hidden Husband," the authorities finally catch up with her (never seen) tax-evading hubbie Stan and toss him in the clink. Grace's relationship with Nathan, on the other hand, continues to blossom until talk turns to marriage in "The Rules of Engagement." Guest stars include Parker Posey as Jack's stylish supervisor ("Loose Lips Sinks Relationships," "Jingle Balls"), Matt Damon as a closeted choral singer ("A Chorus Lie"), Glenn Close as an eccentric photographer ("Hocus Focus"), and her former co-star Michael Douglas ("Fagel Attraction") as a "detective" with the hots for Will. There are also recurring guests, like Debbie Reynolds as Grace's drama queen mother ("Moveable Feast," a double-length episode), director Sydney Pollack as Will's wayward father ("Cheatin' Trouble Blues"), and Jack's favorite diva, Cher, as herself ("A.I.: Artificial Insemination," the season finale). By the end of season four, Will and Grace will still be single, Karen's husband will still be incarcerated (but at least she'll have maid Rosario to keep her company), and Jack will still be, as he used to say, "Just Jack!" As always, the year will end with a cliffhanger as Will and Grace decide to have a baby together. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

    Season Five

    Product Description
The unique relationship between Will Truman and Grace Adler continues to evolve this season in the adult comedy about two best friends - Will who is gay and Grace who is straight. Contains the complete fifth season.

    4 out of 5 stars Great show........2007-06-16

As a fan of the show from the beginning, I have to say that if I didn't get this set while it was on sale for $69 I would be very disappointed. We all know that the show is funny, but I get the feeling that I'm watching the edited syndicated versions rather than the ones that aired during it's run.

    Still funny though.

this is a great show. very enjoyable, quick-witted and highly entertaining. but not enough interviews with the cast and such. the themed featurettes dont cut it. also where are the subtitles from season 3 onwards?

3 out of 5 stars I know why they were on sale........2007-05-15

I bought these when they were on sale for $69. I couldn't believe I could get all 5 seasons for $13 each. I just opened the box and realized why they were so cheap.

The plastic casing for Season 1 was all but obliterated.
Season 2 had chunks missing and cracks everywhere else.
Season 3 has a few small pieces missing and a few cracks.
Season 4 has a severe gash in the cover and a cracked case under Disc 2.
Season 5 managed to escape w/out major damage.

The only reason I didn't score this lower is the discs are somehow still pristine despite the damaged packaging. It wasn't shipping issues because the box they came in was not damaged so they were wrapped up & put in the box damaged. This the first and hopefully last problem I've had with Amazon.

The producers of The "I Love Lucy" 50th Anniversary Special had a tough assignment, and they triumphantly rose to the occasion. Ostensibly a vehicle for a fan-selected list of top 10 favorite "I Love Lucy" episodes (available in the Best of I Love Lucy Collection), this 2001 special covers all the requisite territory with a solid sense of history and affectionate nostalgia, combining loving reminiscence and commentary (by such luminaries as Lily Tomlin, Barbara Walters, and Dick Van Dyke) with vintage clips from the selected episodes. More substantial segments demonstrate the deeper significance of the Lucy phenomenon past and present, from Desi Arnaz's influential impact on Latino culture in America to Lucy's historic onscreen pregnancy. When surviving children Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr. visit their mother's childhood home, their emotions are as genuine as I Love Lucy's cultural importance, adding gentle tears to an abundance of laughter. As valentines go, this anniversary couldn't be more special. --Jeff Shannon

5 out of 5 stars Die Hard Lucy Fan - Pay Attention.......2007-01-15

For those of us that follow the life and times of Lucy and Desi this DVD has some film footage that I had not seen in any other compilation. This includes interviews with Lucy and Desi Jr and a return to Lucy's hometown, Jamestown.

Several never before told stories are included and guest star interviews are insightful and well done.

DVD quality is excellent and the production is equally superb.

    5 out of 5 stars Touching, Tear-Jerking, Totally Terrific!.......2005-09-24

I've always been a fan of anything with the "Queen of Comedy"--but this had to be The Best!! Seeing other celebs give their views of how I LOVE LUCY impacted development of TV was good, but this rare showing of Lucie & Desi Jr. together made it terrific! There was NOTHING "STAGED" about the children's love for their parents! Desi Jr's emotions at seeing his mother's birthplace for the first time was so heartfelt; and their blend in "Patria" honoring their Dad was just great!) Having them in this tender (& lovingly emotional) family tribute made this the "creme-de-la-creme" for me!
This tribute is a true gem--not just to great actors, but showing the bond of love that makes a family. "FAMILY"--just one wonderful value that made us love the series then--and why WE STILL LOVE LUCY today!!

5 out of 5 stars Behind the Greatest Show of all Time!!.......2003-04-20

I LOVE LUCY!! This show was really a big hit. It was bigger than big. In this video they go behind the scenes of "I Love Lucy." They even go to Jamestown, New York to show you where Lucille ball grew up. They talk about Lucy and Rickys childhood backgrounds. This is full of information that any Lucy fan would find interresting if you don't know it already. Its worth the money. They even have celebrities who talk about what they thought about the show with Whoopi Goldberg starting out the video. This is for any Lucy fan. They also count down the top 10 most popular Lucy episodes in the video. Get it while you can. Its worth it!! This is suppose to be the VHS version.

5 out of 5 stars A resonse for "A viewer from Zhukovsky, Russia ".......2003-02-11

Read the descriptions of items before you buy them. It clearly says "...with vintage clips from the selected episodes..." Clips does not mean full episodes. Personally, I thought this was an excellent DVD about the history of "I Love Lucy." And guess what, reviewer from Russia, in order to have a history video, you must have information on the actors. This video provides accurate information about all aspects of the show, characters, actors, and the actors' personal lives. The very special part is that they got Lucie and Desi Jr., the children of Lucy and Desi, to comment on the show and on their parents, as well as sing a revitalization of "Babalu." A must have for any "I Love Lucy" enthusiast.

    5 out of 5 stars LOVING LUCY'S LEGACY.......2003-01-20

As much an homage as it is a documentary, "The `I Love Lucy' 50th Anniversary Special" is ideal for those who would love to find out just why the legacy of Lucy lives on. The special features vintage clips from some of Lucy's funniest and famous skits, as well as interviews with those performers who have been inspired and influenced by the red-hot redhead, including Whoopi Goldberg, Cher, Paul Rodriquez, Lily Tomlin and Dick Van Dyke. Some of the guests will surprise you, such as Antonio Banderas, Andy Garcia and Larry King. [One interesting sidenote: Roseanne Barr Arnold makes an appearance, yet in past interviews, Arnold was quick to boast about how much she did not love Lucy. Time for penance, Rosie?] Original "I Love Lucy" writers Madelyn Pugh Davis, Bob Carroll Junior and Bob Schiller, as well as other crew members, shed some insider insights into the Lucy legend. Desi Arnaz's genius is also honored, with a look at his Cuban
background and influence on Latin music in the United States. Latin music sensation does a knock-'em dead "Babalu," on a stylized set so reminiscent of The Tropicana. Perhaps most touching is the visit Lucie Arnaz and Desi Junior make to Lucy's birthplace, Jamestown, New York ... it is Desi's first visit, and the camera doesn't shy away from the emotional experience. Add to that Desi and Lucie singing "Patria" ("Homeland"), a tune
especially written for the special, with multi-Grammy winner Auturo Sandoval on trumpet. Just marvelous!

4 out of 5 stars Skewering What Needs to be Skewered.......2005-12-28

Martin Short's Jiminy Glick character is what television needs in our age of celebrity worship. A sweaty, gluttonous, oblivious, clumsy, clueless interviewer who backhands his guests so deftly that I think they even miss out on the diss.

My favorite interview is with Jerry Seinfeld, another brilliant comedian who can think fast on his feet and keeps up with Short. That segment is gold.
(Although it's not on this DVD, one of my favorite Jiminy questions was put to Mel Brooks on another show, "So what's your beef with the Nazis?").

I also find Mrs. Gathercole (Short made up as Jiminy's ancient, crotchety fan) hilarious, whether she's soiling herself and throwing her bloomers at her abused nurse or shouting out "FORNICATE!"

Like all sketch comedy, some of it can be hit and miss depending on your tastes. But when Jiminy hits, it's a homerun.

    5 out of 5 stars Martin Short's the best.......2005-09-04

I've always found Martin Short funny, but now he takes funny to a different level. He's normally quick anyway, but playing the lovable and yet annoying Jiminy, he's a whole new kind of quick and brings the humour up a couple of notches. How the interviewees don't crack up all the time is amazing. I'd be on the floor if it were me. This is excellent and I highly recomend this. There are great appearances by some great actors and it's very very entertaining.

3 out of 5 stars Funny, worth the buy, but not THAT great ;).......2005-08-02

I love Martin Short as Jiminy Glick. There's nothing funnier than a funny fat guy. I don't know how much of those interviews are improv, but if any of it is, it's great. Martin Short has classic one liners, and comebacks. I wouldn't rate this DVD as GREAT, but certainly worth the buy. I forget how much I paid, but it wasn't much; and it produced laughter many times....Enough said ;)

    4 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised..........2004-07-26

I'm not a huge fan of Martin Short. I think there are better Canadian comics out there, such as Jim Carrey and Mike Meyers, but I was pleasantly surprised by this DVD. Short is surprisingly funny doing his improv talk show host schtick, particularly when going head to head with comedic greats like Bill Maher and Steve Martin. Michael McKean is terrific in the stereotypical band leader/sidekick role. Some material works and some doesn't but, for the price, I would have to say it's a worthy purchase.

5 out of 5 stars The Great Great Martin Short !.......2004-07-07

Those SCTV fanatics finally got something to cheer about when Martin Short was given this incredible show. He brought back the tradition of that crazy show. Moreover, he brought back the members of it. Levy, Thomas and Flaherty all appeared on season one of Glick. This show is just so intelligent, so many little subplots with Adrian VanVoorhees, Dixie, Mason, Morgan, Matthew and Modine. I have never laughed harder at a show. I cannot get enough of Jiminy and his pathetic nature. Sadly, this DVD is rather brief. It is a best of and not a collection of the whole season. However, the deleted scene with Julia Louise Dryfuss is INCREDIBLE! Here is hoping that Comedy Central will bring this show back and release an entire first season DVD. Great great stuff.

The holiday season bring s out the best in Grace Brothers' department store: Bickering, bribery, lechery, snits, and of course silly musical numbers while dressed in ridiculous costumes. Classic Britcom Are You Being Served? thrives on the comedy of petty squabbles and this collection of Christmas-themed episodes is prime stuff. The four episodes have been plucked from seasons 1-7; in one episode, the staff is forced to dress as fairy-tale characters for a holiday promotion; in another, they try to entertain young Mr. Grace by doing a children's ballet; in another, they apologize for not joining a strike by putting on a full-sized Punch-and-Judy show---and in the remaining episode, the temptation of a large bonus leads the entire staff to dress up as Father Christmas. The pleasure in such hijinks, as with most sitcoms, depends heavily on the audience's indulgence of the characters, but the cast of Are You Being Served? was rich with goofy charm (the effervescent John Inman is in particularly top form). A perverse Christmas display unit, from "The Father Christmas Affair," remains one of the show's all-time comic highlights. --Bret Fetzer

This set is great to give to someone for Christmas that doesn't own the entire set on DVD. The scene where the mannequin's robe comes open and flashes Mr. Humphries is a classic. It always has me rolling on the floor. This DVD is great to help you get in the Christmas mood. I love watching the BBC Christmas comedies. I pull them out at Thanksgiving every year. GREAT to decorate the tree by. Another great Christmas DVD is the "Keeping Up Appearances Deck the Halls with Hyacinth." It also makes a great gift!

If Nick at Nite reruns and the odd reunion special haven't yet numbed you to Brady nostalgia, if the specter of Greg in tight polyester, Jan making her jealous face, or Alice in curlers won't wear out their welcome on your tube no matter what, then by all means, tune into Brady Home Movies. Here's a 50-minute bonanza of bubblegum good times, with the whole surviving gang gathering round for a wide-eyed look back. Jan is painted as a flirt, Greg as the consummate cool guy, and Peter and Bobby seem plunked into parts ripped from their real lives. Vintage movies by the cast members cap off a show as squeaky-clean as the series that enabled it (promises to the contrary, nothing bold emerges). But that's the Brady clan for you: to their credit, they're as curiously captivating (if not nearly as cute) here as they were 30 years ago. --Tammy La Gorce

    Description

The Brady Bunch Home Movies (which aired on CBS only once on May 24, 1995) is filled with great home movie clips from the cast members' own libraries as well as recent interviews with the majority of the cast. During the first year on the show, Robert Reed (Mike Brady) gave each cast member a Super 8 camera. He also took the children to England and New York during the show's hiatus. Some of the footage on The Brady Bunch Home Movies came from those private trips.

The DVD version includes an exclusive interview with Susan Olsen and Mike Lookinland.

3 out of 5 stars Bonus interviews redeem this DVD release.......2007-04-21

As has been stated in other reviews, the "background" music that is laid over the majority of this DVD is far too loud, and you sometimes have to strain to hear the actors. The banter among the cast where they were assembled in one room was better than the individual segments. Maureen McCormick and Eve Plumb are noticably absent in the group interview however.

I thought the fairly lengthy bonus interview with Susan Olson and Mike Lookinland (that looks like it was shot to sweeten the DVD release) was the best part IMHO. They are sitting side by side talking openly and honestly and best of all there is NO background music.

3 out of 5 stars Sweet memories of our fave family.......2007-02-03

Watching the footage filmed by the Brady kids is oddly like watching one of your own family recordings. Jumping from scene to scene, jerky and out of focus - but there is no doubt the level of love and happiness in eyes of the talent.

Added to this vision is a fascinating reunion with the Bradys (and Alice). Their respect for Robert Reed (who gave the kids the orginal cameras to film with) is obvious and the long standing friendships between the actors driven out of this wonderful series is great to see (if not something of a relief these days!!).

A most enjoyable DVD for Brady fans.

5 out of 5 stars There first reunion since the girls "got married.".......2006-01-21

As I said on another site and as The "Mother" starts off this special their saying how This is their first reunion since the girls"Got married."It's a very good follow up on all the original tv show's members of the original tv show's cast and each just as famous for their real/stage names as they are for their a.k.a. Brady role names including one of Robert Reed but under his birth name saying John Robert Reitz a.k.a. Mike Brady each followed by some but not all of their pre and post Brady roles but still a very good follow up.The cast members each share all of they're favorite memories of Bob including Chris Knight a.k.a. Peter Brady crying & saying how there were a Number of things he would've loved to have shared with Bob but didn't get to of which many times is the case with someone who's no longer with us.There were very good clips of their "reunions" too Yes as with The Brady Bunch Variety Hour,A Very Brady Christmas, along with The Bradys.Let's look forward to & clamor for the possibility of further future Brady Bunch Reunions in TV Show continuity perspective of which they still can have further reunions but no more pregnant jokes, the last of which was used in a Very Brady Christmas. There's also a good follow-up on their trips with the Super 8 Cameras of which Bob gave them for on at least one of their trips. Please also do check this special out on the ImBD site.

2 out of 5 stars Brady home movies to ROCK???.......2005-11-30

I must say I was dissapointed with this movie. What's the deal with the loud pop/rock music that plays totally from start to finish!!???. It's like someone forgot that we were actually meant to hear what was being said!!!.
The film footage was excellent & even better than I expected but don't even attempt to try and drag the 70's into the 90's at all, and especially with that shocking music throughout, it just didn't work at all!!.
Production companies should try and remember that the people who buy these features actually want to go back to "THAT" time totally, and that any attempt to "modernise" a window in time is a HUGE mistake.
Sorry to sound so critical, but I was really looking forward to a "total voyage" back to those 70's "Brady Days".
My suggestion, turn off the volume!.

5 out of 5 stars The real Bradys.......2005-11-21

This is a TV special that aired in 1995. This is a very entertaining documentery on the real lives of the Brady Bunch-when the cameras were not rolling. They were normal kids who liked to have fun. They were very good at goofing off-they were just being themselves.

Robert Reed-who played the father-Mike Brady on the show gave each one of the kids super 8 cameras. They all made home movies with these cameras and now for the first time ever, several of these movies were compiled into this tv special. I find these home movies very fascinating. It shows what these kids were really like when they were not filming.

I think the main thing about this special is that it shows how these kids established a chemistry on the show and why it worked so well. They liked being with each other even off the set. And so when one watches the Brady Bunch, it's easy to see that they had a great chemistry and that's what made them so believable.

My favorite home movies here are those of Mike Lookinland(Bobby)this was one goofy kid when the cameras were not rolling. His home movie of the dogs and cats is very funny. It also shows why he is my favorite Brady kid-he was a real charmer!

So, you want to know what these kiks were really like in real life? Then get this DVD!
