Japan's Rock `n' Roll Zombie Horror Classic Is Finally Coming To DVD! Ace, a rockabilly fan who really wants to be cool, is on his way to seeing his favorite group Guitar Wolf when a strange thing occurs . . . aliens invade the Earth and people start returning to life as flesh-eating zombies! Enlisting the help of the (real-life) Japanese rock/ punk band Guitar Wolf (and self-proclaimed coolest rock band in the world), Ace and the members of the band get entangled in many misadventures with crazy rock managers in very tight shorts, transsexuals, naked women shooting guns in the shower, and bloodthirsty zombies ready to tear them apart. Leather jackets, loud over-modulated music, laser guitar picks, motorcycles, muscle cars, and LOTS of fire . . . it's all right here! Did we also happen to mention flesh-eating zombies? Think Dawn of the Dead meets Kiss meets The Phantom of the Park with the humor of Evil Dead 2 and that's what Wild Zero is all about!
Customer Reviews:
A must-have for your DVD collection.......2007-05-15
I love this film. not such a huge fan of the band, only a little one, but this still it's so~ awesome!. not mislead you into that it's award winning material. It's pretty B-grade. but it's such a B-grade film, It's so bad, it's good! ROCK & ROLL~!!
And if you don't check it out, zombies will come eat your brains! @W@
Hilarious and bizarre.......2007-01-18
A friend and I saw "Wild Zero" at a zombie film fest and halfway through the film we knew we would want to watch it over and over again. The plot is bizarre and seemingly cobbled together with every concept, special effect or catch-phrase that the filmmakers could come up with (Japanese rock-and-roll zombie film with aliens and Guitar Wolf saving the world.) Continuity, logic, and to some extent--taste---seems to have been thrown out the window in favour of a lot of fire, explosions, screaming and melodramatic expressions. The drinking game is pretty great but one can easily be too intoxicated early on in the film--and the film doesn't really pick up till it's nearly halfway through. A great film for anyone who is a fan of ludicrous cinema (or in the same vein as John Waters' early films like "Mondo Trasho" or "Desperate Living.")
Rock N Roll!!.......2006-08-21
This is the ultimate Rock and Roll Zombie Romance Comedy. Love knows no borders, nationalities, or genders! ROCK AND ROLL BABY!
Do not play the drinking game, you'll die.
Do not make up your own drinking game, you'll come very close to dying.
Punk Rock, Zombies, Oh yes.......2006-06-23
I've seen some of the reviews on here saying this movie was dumb. Well, maybe it could be. But that is like saying a Mercedes is dumb. It's only dumb if you can't afford it but it's great for the people who love them
Same thing here. If you like The Ramones, Romero's Living Dead series, and the goofy like FX of Very Strange Video, you'll love it.
I've watched this movie probably 30 times. It's funny, and all around I liked it. It may not be for everyone. But I did want to make a reveiw showing the truth and not some wannabee film critic who has never made a movie in his life.
The Truth is simple, if you're into the somewhat odd, funny, B grade horror movies that are both funny, cheesy, and full of zombies, and you enjoy The Ramones or even the Misfits, well, BUY THIS, YOU'LL LOVE IT.
If you are more into serious movies, then don't.
"Please help us! The people in this town are f****d!".......2005-12-12
Forgettable (I hope) entry into the zombie genre. I was generous by giving this misfire two stars. The zombie make-up is nothing but discolored skin, every character was overacted and the story consisted of nothing but very annoying people running from location to location screaming loudly until Guitar Wolf shows up and starts combing their hair while killing zombies with electrified guitar picks.
Also there were some space ships flying around, a confusing gay love story and some strange guy with a bad toupee shooting lasers out of his eyes.

Hypnotically Bad.......2006-12-09
(The movie rates a 0 on the Normal Movie scale, but a solid 5 on the Inspired Bad Movie scale.)
Eureka! A gold strike for lovers of inspired bad movies. Yes, we're in Ed Wood territory here. Just when you think the acting, directing, and dialogue can't get worse, it does. This is what happens when a determined band of no-talents take themselves seriously and commit a movie. The story itself is not exactly from Shakespeare. It's not even from the guy down the block. It's from Hollywood's favorite book of thumbed pages, the inspirational saga of show business. Yes indeed, the evergreen rags to riches along Hollywood and Vine. Only here it takes our star exactly 5 minutes to become an Overnight Wonder, 10 minutes to find True Love, 20 minutes to find Real Values, and an abysmal 87 minutes to end.
Leading the thespic charge is Arch Hall Jr., with a blond pompadour that shape-shifts faster than Pampas grass in a windstorm. No wonder he's the "star": his dad is the film's producer, who also acts (sort of) the part of, shall we say, an ethics-deprived promoter. Whatever it is with the Hall's, it's in the genes. Too bad that Jr. looks more like the Pillsbury doughboy than Elvis. Still and all, he does strive manfully, and to be fair, acting was not something he wanted to do. Apparently, it was Dad's inspiration. Then there's actor-director Ray Dennis Steckler, a serial perpetrator, whose career proves that a clear lack of judgement, skill, and talent need be no barrier. Here he plays Steak, the thug, with an eye for artistic nuance that already approaches the classic heights of Rat Pfink A Boo Boo. And, poor, drama-challenged Nancy Czar essays the girl friend. Her permanently dazed expression suggests either a wardrobe break-down or a sudden glimpse of reality. Either way, her expertly performed spiral across an ice rink almost spoils everything.
The film does have a high or low-- take your pick. It comes in a cavernous sound stage left over from a 30's horror film. How appropriate. There Hall Jr. demonstrating all the charisma of dried cement bleats out a top ten tune from hell, while somewhere beneath, a girl with a veil flits back and forth like she's chasing gnats. Then again, maybe she's just celebrating her brand-name underwear. Anyway, the two together are beyond surreal. I could go on, especially about the three comic mental cases who make the Bowery Boys look like brain surgeons, but you get the idea. Hollywood used to turn out big-budget bad films by the bucket load. You know, the kind that usually starred Richard and Elizabeth and were supposed to impress even as you slumbered along. No chance of that here. This is a hypnotically bad movie. I say we turn the Oscar statuette on its head and give it to Guitar for Best Bad Movie of 1962. It may be fifty years late, but somehow that seems fitting.
Nepotism Gone Awry.......2005-02-07
Back in the 60s a local TV station ran a 4:00 pm movie which I would usually watch. At the end of the program one day, the host said, "tomorrow I am going to show a film that is so bad that you just have to watch it." I did. That was my introduction to "Arch Hall presents Arch Hall jr in". These movies, Wild Guitar included, are that bad. The plots are trite; the characters are stereotypical; and to say that Arch Hall overacts would be to concede he acts at all. Somehow, however, I enjoy watching the films. A few years ago I was channel surfing and I glimpsed a scene that I immediately remembered. It was a long shot but I knew immediately it was from Wild Guitar. That inspired me to go shopping. I have since bought four Arch Hall movies. I watch them and I pass them around to my friends, telling them that these will redefine their idea of "the worst movie I ever saw". I have no idea what it is but the movies do have an appeal, more comic, I think, than anything. On that basis I recommend any Arch Hall film.
One of the greatest films ever made.......2005-01-18
Yes, that's right. I wish Rhino didn't insist of trying to do away with a great amount of their old videotapes. They seem to be trying to do away with any association with the great Johnny Legend. As for the film itself, it kicks mucho @$$. It's not the most technically impressive film, but is fast paced fun. Arch Hall Jr. doesn't have amazing amounts of talent, but his songs rock and roll anyways, and he is a likable enough presence. Bring back old school rhino!
ah, the folly of youth. so malleable to the will of the man........1999-03-11
okay, we've all been there before: boy moves to new town. boy meets girl. boy goes with girl to televised talent showcase. boy gets to perforn do to slated performers illness. boy is a smashing success. boy gets signed by big promoter. promoter forbids boy to think for himself. boy accepts. get the picture? (yes, we see!) this picture is a slice of all of our lives; not only is it filled with nearly hideous songs of our own creation, but it is filled with people who really shouldn't be up on the big screen, engineered by people who(as mainstream hollywood might believe) don't know a camera (or other equiptment) from their own rectums, and is about as swallowable as a seven ton ball of brie. this is such great cheese, that it could be served at even the fanciest dinner party, and be accepted by at least a few people. go ahead! roll up your sleves and delve into the seemy underside of the music business. don't let others tell you what to think (including me), check this one out for yourself. (disclaimer: this is not the full storyline, and i did not give away the surprise (sort of) ending)

"Wild Guitar" (1962, 88 min.) - Hick hipster Bud Eagle arrives in L.A. just in time to stumble onto a TV talent show where he and his Wild Guitar become an immediate sensation. He's quickly signed by Mike McCauley, "the biggest manager in Hollywood," who promptly cheats, cons, and exploits the kid until Bud wises up and fights back. "The Choppers" (1961, 56 min.) - Five car-stripping psychos are The Choppers, teenage boys who reduce unattended autos to rubble and sell the parts to greedy salvage king Big Moose. But the cops are quickly closing in, especially after an insurance investigator discovers a significant clue to the gang's identity: a chicken feather.
Customer Reviews:
Too Much Is Missing From The Choppers.......2006-07-06
Although The Choppers does look great, it's unbelievably missing nearly ten minutes of footage. The first cut scene brings up the stakeout plan and the last has Arch Hall Jr. singing "Monkeys In My Hatband" (which another reviewer mentioned.) The longest takes place at the Chick-A-Dilly with Marianna Gaba playing detective while enticing the gang in order to find out the owner of the hotrod the police are after. It's her best scene where she does more than just look sensational. The Choppers is entertaining and would have been even better without these cuts. Cutting ten minutes out of a movie that ran only 66 to begin with
makes absolutely no sense to me. A couple of other versions are available, but I don't know if they are complete or not.
Beautiful prints highlight solid Arch Hall Jr. two-fer.......2002-07-31
I admit it. After buying Allday's terrific The Sadist DVD last year, and then Eegah!, I have been sucked into the Arch Hall Jr. cult. This Something Weird DVD combines his first movie (The Choppers) and third (after Eegah!) on one disc, and while neither is as good as The Sadist or as bad as Eegah!, fans of Hall or campy early-1960s cheapies in general should be delighted with this set. Written and produced by Arch Hall Sr. (who also plays a crusading reporter and narrates Dragnet-style), The Choppers is a kind of "JD RFD" flick, concerning a gang of car-stripping teens operating out of a poultry delivery truck. Arch Jr. plays Cruiser (he "likes pretty girls and ready cash"), who functions as lookout for the "choppers" in his awesome street rod. The kids, who fence their stolen parts to nasty, slimy Bruno VeSota, owner of Big Deal Auto Salvage, have cool nicknames (Torch, Flip), talk in hipster slang, cruise the local Chick-a-Dilly in some very custom wheels, and come from generally messed-up backgrounds (Cruiser's dad was machine-gunned in WWII as he attempted to parachute to safety; Torch fronts booze money to his loser alcoholic parents). The juvenile leads are actually pretty competent, though William Shaw as Lt. Fleming should take some sort of prize for his incredibly wooden performance. There is some bad low comedy involving the two cops and an amusing scene where the choppers strip their unmarked car while they have lunch. Knockout Playboy playmate Marianne Gaba, as Officer Jenks' girlfriend Liz, always seems to be just hanging around looking luscious and whining alot. Three Arch Hall Jr. compositions, including "Konga Joe" and "Monkey in My Hatband" (!?) are heard on the soundtrack (he listens to himself on his car radio) as well as some fairly decent jazzy "JD" cues. It all winds up in a surprisingly violent (for the time) standoff with the heat at the scrapyard. While a bit lighter in tone than my favorite JD stuff (Beat Generation, Teenage Doll, Night of Evil), The Choppers still delivers an hour of solid entertainment for most any JD or hot rod movie fan. (Note: Vilmos Zsigmond shot some 2nd unit on this one, apparently warming up for The Sadist.)
Wild Guitar presents the story of Bud Eagle, small-town hick and aspiring pop star with a towering blonde pompadour, who travels to L.A., guitar in hand, where he meets pretty go-go dancer Vickie (Nancy Czar) at a greasy spoon. She immediately lands him a slot on a live rock'n'roll TV show, and Bud becomes an instant sensation (dig that cheesy "raining Monopoly money" montage). He's soon being managed by scummy hardball shyster agent Mike McCauley (played a little TOO convincingly by dad Arch Sr.), who sets him up with a swank apartment and new guitar but breaks up Vickie and Bud and proceeds to manipulate and cheat him at every turn. (There's a twang in Arch Sr.'s voice that reminds me of Stuart Lancaster as the lecherous Old Man in Faster Pussycat.) First-time director Ray Dennis Steckler is memorable as McCauley's creepy henchman Steak, Arch Jr.'s musical interludes (especially "Vickie") will send your cringe-o-meter off the scale, and Vickie's big go-go dance number simply oozes camp. The occasional doses of whitebread corn (e.g. the ice skating sequence) and terrible "comedy" involving some lowlife extortionist kidnappers are thankfully offset by some mild flirtations with sleaze (the hiring of Daisy the hooker; McCauley and Steak's general ickiness). There's even a "whirling camera while they dance and kiss" scene like in Carrie (could DePalma be an Arch Hall Jr. fan??), and the ending where Bud forgives McCauley will make you want to pull your hair out. To be sure, this is NOT a Good Movie (remember, these are the people behind Eegah!), but it's probably a more realistic portrayal of the phoniness, backstabbing, payola, and general crookedness of the music industry than your typical Elvis flick and easily as entertaining if not more so. Highly recommended for bad movie aficionados.
The "Special Edition" extras are moderately entertaining, with the trailer collection (The Choppers, Wild Guitar, Rat Fink, The Beatniks, Wild Ones on Wheels, Married Too Young, Teenage Zombies) the highlight (although the trailer for Wild Love seems totally out of place here). There are two odd but only faintly amusing Dance Craze and Twist Craze shorts, and Hot Car, an informative if somewhat dry 1958 30-minute Police Science Foundation training film, concerned with identifying stolen cars and apprehending car thieves. The value of the extras is dampened tremendously by Something Weird's usual practice of sticking their big ugly logo down in the corner of the screen.
The good news is that this DVD is all about the feature presentations and they both look absolutely stunning. Based on other SW discs I've purchased, my hopes for this one were not high, but I have to admit they have delivered virtually pristine prints for both Wild Guitar and The Choppers. Wild Guitar is perhaps a bit crisper and cleaner, but both exhibit excellent black level, tonal values, shadow/highlight detail, and sharpness throughout. There is some very light speckling apparent on both, but that's it! No jump cuts, no lining, no nothing; you won't have to worry about upgrading from these babies. If the extras had not the stinking logos on them this would be a five-star disc.
The Choppers: Tommy Ivo's T Bucket?.......2002-07-10
Not sure. But that looks a lot like TV Tommy Ivo's Buick powered T bucket street rod that Arch Hall, Jr is zipping around in.
This story of young car thieves doesn't completely flop thanks to the film's somewhat business-like pace. There's a kind of sincerity of effort to 'The Choppers' that makes you stop laughing at the amateurish acting and dialog long enough to pay attention. The ex-Playmate of the Month in the role of the insurance guy's always hungry secretary provides another reason to pay attention.
The DVD release of the month!.......2002-02-27
Arch Hall, Jr. appeared in a handful of films in the early 1960s, mostly working for his father, and this DVD presents two of his best. "Best" being a relative term, of course. Arch couldn't act, couldn't sing, and had a face like a pudgy spider monkey, but MAN were his films memorable. He's a favorite around our house.
In THE CHOPPERS (Arch's film debut), Arch and his gang (including the grandson of Charles "Ming the Merciless" Middleton) vandalize autos and sing such classics as "Monkey in my Hatband" and "Koko Joe". In WILD GUITAR, Arch is Bud Eagle, rock & roll singer, in a rags to riches story. Songs include "Valerie" (not the one by the Monkees) and the unforgettable "Twist Fever", sung on the beach. Watch Arch skipping along the sand, trying to emulate Chuck Berry's duck walk; it's one of the great moments in bad screen history. Also look for the DVDs of EEGAH! and THE SADIST, and hopefully somebody'll give us NASTY RABBIT and DEADWOOD '76, Arch's other pictures, plus a CD of Arch's song stylings (I cobbled together my own from the movies' soundtracks). Mr. Hall, wherever you are, please know that your fans love you!

Superb, heartfelt, poetic........2006-04-02
This is truly a marvellous musical experience. I have only known about Harry for a short time (the album Wise and Otherwise) and he has become almost a favourite friend. This collection of his material recorded live in Australia is a real treat and also a glimpse at the humour and worldly wisdom of the man behind the music.
His lap slide guitar work is impeccable - I fired off a copy of this dvd to my musician friends as soon as I discovered it - but when he takes out the astonishing instrument called a "Mohan Veena" the spell is sublime. The years he lived in India have given him the ability to straddle blues, raga and folk forms and, without wishing to draw too close a parallel, he sometimes reminds me of John Martyn.
This is superb stuff, whether you are a musician or just a music fan with impeccable good taste, you will love this collection. Thank you Harry!
